Weekly Recap: March 12th-18th, 2018

I’ve been back home for a two weeks now, the 5k that my dad andΒ  I did together was a success, and now I’m pretty much back to scheduled programming. I’m training for my next 5k in May, making plans for my garden, farming chickens, and handling 3 border collies. So you know, same old same old. πŸ™‚

  • Rest Day

I usually try to take my rest days on Sunday, but since the Whiskey run was on Sunday I just moved that to Monday. So Monday was pretty uneventful, but my spiffy new Zensah compression sleeves got here, so there’s that. πŸ™‚

  • Easy 2 miles
  • 15 minutes of strength work

Nothing exciting or fancy on Tuesday. Just doing thing that need to be done.

  • 10 minute warm up on the stationary bike
  • 4 miles

Running is hard…

Seriously did not want to do this run on Wednesday, but I got out there and muddled through it. Barely haha. But I did it and that’s all that matters, right?

  • Rest Day

Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope.

I woke up feeling like shit on Thursday. I was crazy sore, tired, and just gross feeling all around, even though I really hadn’t done anything all week to warrant feeling that way. So I skipped my run and opted to walk the dogs and do some yoga instead. I’m still not entirely sure if I should have just muddled through another run or not. But I mostly think my body was trying to tell me something and that I might have avoided an illness or injury by opting out of Thursday’s run. Either way though, it didn’t get done.

But on the bright side, my Honey Stinger order came on Thursday and I got to try out one of the new Almond butter/dark chocolate snack bars! They. Are. Amazing!! πŸ™‚

  • Walked around the dog park

Well, and spent the whole day running around like crazy trying to get some stuff done haha! Luke’s Friday’s off (he gets a Friday off of work every other week), tend to be like that though. The day started off super rainy and chilly so we weren’t actually sure if we were gonna be able to get the dogs to the park, which was something we desperately wanted to do! So we ended up going to several stores in the mall, and the to Scheels looking for new everyday shoes for Luke and running tights for me. Luke and I are kind of die hard Nike people haha, but we’ve both been a bit disappointed by them lately. They’ve seemed to have done away with Nike Shox (Luke loves them for some reason. I think they’re super uncomfortable and not at all sad to see them go haha). Eventually he did find another pair of Nike’s that he likes though. My problem is the seem to have done away with my favorite kind of running tights. I’ve been looking everywhere for them or something similar for going on 2 years now, but nope, it’s looking like they’ve done away with them as well. Sad face… After being super disappointed at several stores, Luke told me that maybe I should try something new, so I ended up ordering a pair of Oiselle pocket jogger capris. This is the first Oiselle item I’ve ever purchased, so I’m pretty excited for them to get here and see what they’re all about. Plus I’ve always said running gear never has enough pockets, so these capris should solve that issue for me! So. Many. Pockets!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Anyway, after our shopping adventures it had gotten a lot nicer outside and the rain had mostly dissipated, so we took the dogs to the park, did some errands, then had my brother-in-law, his girlfriend, and her 2 kids over for dinner. Haha it was a very busy/eventful day.

  • 30 minutes of yoga

Oh man, my stomach was not happy with me on Saturday. I’m not entirely sure what that was all about, but it probably had something to do with the fact that I have not been eating very well lately. Obviously I need to work on that. So I kept it super easy and did 30 minutes of restorative yoga on Saturday. That ended up feeling really nice. πŸ™‚

  • 20 minutes on the stationary bike

Ugh, Lily and Finn kept Luke and I up all freaking night…That was a whole thing. I had planned on getting in a few miles at the very least today, but after last night’s fiasco that wasn’t going to happen. I always read/hear that after a shitty night of sleep you should go run because it’ll make you feel better, but try telling that to tired, cranky Ashley. Nope, not worth it in her opinion.

So, dyed my hair, cleaned the house, and spent a little bit of time on the stationary bike instead.

So yeah. This was a weird week. Sometimes running kinda gets in the way of life but this week life kinda got in the way of running. It happens and I’m not too worried about it. I have a feeling that next week will be better. πŸ™‚

I hope everyone has had a good weekend!

Thursday Things

They’re here!!!!!

I’ve mentioned before how excited I was about these Honey Stinger cracker n’ nut butter snack bars, right? Well, if not, I’m super duper excited about theseΒ  Honey Stinger cracker n’ nut butter snack bars!! Haha so of course I ordered a box of the almond butter and dark chocolate bars on Monday. Along with a couple of boxes of waffles because priorities. πŸ˜‰

So that all got here today and I was able to try out one of the snack bars. They. Are. Amazing! Honey Stinger has yet to disappoint! πŸ™‚

You can get a box of these bad boys here, if you’re interested. πŸ™‚

Along with getting my Honey Stinger fix, I also got a new pair of Zensah compression sleeves earlier this week! How super spiffy are these?!?!?!

Haha I think they’re pretty freaking great. Plus along with being super neat looking (who doesn’t like rubber ducks?), I love Zensah’s compression sleeves (and socks). They’re super comfortable and I don’t feel like I’m being squeezed to death when I’m wearing them, but they still provide a pretty good amount of compression. I think they’re great. πŸ™‚

These rubber ducky sleeves, mini crew socks, and no-show socks are limited edition, so if you’re into that kinda thing like me, I’d snatch them up while I can! And obviously I did haha. πŸ™‚

Anyway, I finally got around to updating my “Goals and PR’s” page. You know, we’re only halfway through the 3rd month of the year, but better late than never, right? πŸ˜‰ At some point I need to get around to update my “About” page. I think it’s been something like 2 years since I’ve updated that, and obviously some things have changed. Plus I’ve just never been a fan of my “about” page so I really probably should just sit down and work on that. I’ll do it at some point haha.

Oh man, I’ve talked a little bit about what kind of running nutrition and gear that I like, so I guess maybe I should talk about actual running…it’s hard. I’m just having one of those weeks where everything feels hard and I just don’t want to do it. Which is super discouraging after how much fun and how great I felt during the Whiskey Run last Sunday. But it happens. It seems to happen to me a lot, but hey, just gotta work through it. So that’s what I’m doing. I took a rest day on Monday since I raced on Sunday. Did an easy 2 mile run on Tuesday (it didn’t feel easy), did the most difficult 4 miler of my life on Wednesday. Seriously, it was awful. I got through it though. Slowly. But my goal was 4 so dammit I did 4 haha.

This morning I wanted to get another 3-4 miles in, but holy cow I felt like shit! I woke up sore, tired, and gross feeling. And I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t think I’ve done anything so far this week to warrant being this sore, so I figured I should play it safe and take the day off. Part of me kinda wonders if that’s just a lame excuse to get out of doing what probably would have been another not so fun run, but the rest of me is too tired and achy to care haha. So I’m mostly happy with my decision. I have a feeling skipping today’s run means I’m avoiding some kind of illness or potential injury, because like I said, I really don’t think I have a reason to feel this crappy today haha.

So, instead of running I took an epsom salt bath at 9 am (that was really nice πŸ™‚ ), walked my dogs, did some yoga, drank some bone broth, and spent quite a bit of time working on blog posts. I definitely felt better doing all of that than I probably would have if I’d attempted to run. πŸ˜‰

Whew, I really hope things start feeling better for me running-wise soon. But I’m pretty much dedicated to suffering through it until it finally does. Hopefully that means I’ll come out on the other side of it stronger, but I guess we’ll find out when I get there.

And on that note; who wants to see some super unflattering photos of my dad and I at the Whiskey Run 5k last Sunday? Because the official race photos were posted a few days ago, and oh boy we are some very photogenic people! πŸ˜‰

They got a great photo of me walking up a hill, I totally nailed the “stopping your watch at the finish line” photo (that’s the first time I’ve done that, I think! πŸ˜‰ ), there’s a great photo of my dad being in pain because he hurt himself in the last few feet of the run (he’s feeling better now though), and post race/breakfast coffee while walking to the car while my dad was still in pain. Haha oh man, they’re all pretty great, but none of them beat my photos from mile 11 at last years Longview half marathon.

My goal for this year at Longview is to not be making that face at mile 11. πŸ˜‚

And finally, how about a little chicken update? My tiny raptors are growing like crazy! Look at all of those feathers they’re growing!! πŸ™‚ Since they are doing so well, getting a little bigger, and the weather’s been relatively nice, Luke and I took them outside and let them explore their chicken coop a little bit for the first time last night. Initially they were kinda freaked out (and understandably so) but after a few minutes they started wandering around and checking everything out. After about 10 or 15 minutes we brought them back inside though. Don’t want them getting sick or too stressed out or anything. We want them laying eggs ASAP! They should start around June or July, so that’s not too long of a wait. πŸ˜‰ Plus by then they’ll be living outside full-time, and thank goodness for that! Having chicks living in your house is kinda fun, but they are messy little creatures haha.

Alrighty then! I guess that pretty much covers everything I wanted to talk about today. Today is basically my Friday because Luke is off work tomorrow and apparently we’re going to be super busy tomorrow! Should be fun though! πŸ™‚

Happy Friday eve!

Weekly Recap March 5th-11th, 2018

I had a lot of fun in Colorado and you definitely can’t beat the views there, but it’s nice to be back home and running the streets that I know like the back of my hand! Plus it’s much more comfortable being back at the elevation that I’m used to haha. Longmont may only be at around 5,000 feet above sea level, which is probably nothing for some people, but I live 1,000 feet above sea level, so that’s a pretty big difference for me! Oh and sleeping in my own bed is also really nice! I do miss waking up to views like these though…

Anyway, lets recap this week, shall we? πŸ™‚

  • 2 easy miles
  • 10 minutes of strength work

My 5k training plan for Running With The Cows started on Monday! So I kicked things off with 2 easy miles because I’m doing a beginner’s plan haha. That seemed like a smarter decision since I’m coming back from about 2 weeks off after breaking my toe and just a not so great winter of running. It’s all good though! I’m thinking this is actually going to end up being really good for me! Anyway, followed my easy run with 10 minutes of strenght work. Mostly because I kinda didn’t want to do it, but also because I had another 5k that I planned on doing with my dad on Sunday so I didn’t want to do anything too crazy that would make me sore for that. Not like a strength session on Monday was likely to still have me feeling sore by Sunday, but still. πŸ˜‰

  • Rest Day
  • 15 minutes of yoga

I like beginner’s training plans because they include a lot of rest. πŸ˜‰ Actually, this is the first actual 5k training plan that I’ve ever done, so I don’t really know if that’s true or not. But I’m gonna go ahead and assume it is. I actually thought about doing another easy mile or two on Tuesday because “I’m definitely at least an intermediate runner” and “miles matter” and “I don’t need 3 rest days in a week”. All of which are probably fair points. But I woke up feeling really tired and still a little run down. Probably from the traveling to, staying in, and then traveling back from Colorado. Let me tell ya, that 10 hour car ride sucks! And my dad, brother, and I managed to make the trip there and back a lot longer than it should have been haha. We all have fun together though.

On Tuesday I also started taking a magnesium supplement. I’ve been reading a lot about it and how is helps support something like 300 different processes in the body, and is supposed to be good for anxiety and teeth health (two things I could use all the help I can get for haha), and I figured since most people are deficient in magnesium I might as well try it out and see if I feel any different because of it.

  • 2 easy miles

Holy cow! According to my Garmin, I got a lot more deep sleep the night before than I usually do! I’m not sure it that was a fluke or because of the magnesium, but I’m definitely interested in finding out! After I took the magnesium on Tuesday night I started to feel really calm and kinda tired after about 5 ish minutes. So I suppose there’s a good possibility that it really did make a difference in my sleep. I’m wondering if anything else will start to feel different as I continue to take it.

Anyway, Wednesday’s run was less than steller. I got chased by a dog again. I’ve actually been chased by this dog several times before. His owner always has him tied out in his front yard and the dog breaks off all the time. It’s really obnoxious and the dog tends to act pretty aggressively. But can’t really do anything about that…

  • 1 hour on the stationary bike

Cross training! Yay! Hahaha not really. Cross training is boring. The stationary bike is boring. Being on it for an hour is a special kind of torturer for me. But watching Green Day things makes it a little bit better.

  • 3 Miles

Whew man, this run was so. Freaking. Hard. Jeez Louise… Can we just talk about how difficult running is the week before your period? Because it really is. I was so tired. I felt like my legs were made of lead and that I was running through a foot of mud. It was pretty awful and tookΒ forever.Β But on the bright side, I found a rubber duck dressed as a gnome on this run. So obviously that made up for everything. πŸ™‚

  • Rest Day

I felt a little better on Saturday. Less tired, but still bleh. I could have definitely run on Saturday. Maybe even should have run on Saturday. But I wanted to feel rested and have my legs feel good for the Whiskey run on Sunday that my dad and I did, so I focused on that instead.

But sticking with the rubber duck theme, yesterday I bought some new compression sleeves yesterday! And the shipped out to me on Saturday and should be here by Monday. I can’t wait for them to get here! They’re so spiffy! Plus I love Zensah’s compression sleeves! They’re pretty great! πŸ™‚

  • Whiskey Run 5k with my dad

Oh man this was so much fun!! We did really well, had lots of fun, got our shot of Whiskey at the end, and had a great breakfast afterwards! Haha that’s all I’ve got about that for now though. I’m gonna try to have a full race recap up at some point tomorrow. Haha there were a few reasons why both of us could have had a really bad day, but like I said, it went really well for both of us! πŸ™‚

Total Weekly Mileage: 10.10

Haha I’ve got a lot of work to do in the weekly mileage department. But I did spend two weeks doing nothing because of my probably broken to, and 10.10 miles is a whole lot better than that! So I’ll gladly take it!

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Weekly Recap: December 18th-24th, 2017

  • 30 Day Shred Day 6

Starting to slowly ease back into my usual routine after a few days off. Definitely started off this week feeling a lot better and more motivated than last week, so that’s good! Anyway, still no run on Monday but I did get a workout in and I’m happy about that. πŸ™‚

  • Rest Day

Kind of starting to keep track of everything I took a break from last week. Food, steps, all of that good stuff. It just felt right to start getting back into all of that. Plus those Garmin Connect step challenges make me super competitive, so obviously I had to start moving around more again haha. Honestly I probably would have attempted a short run on Tuesday, but the gas company was supposed to come and re-do our gas line. I guess they ended up having something come up and they never showed, so I pretty much waited all day for nothing…

  • Rest Day

The plan on Wednesday was to run! But when does anything I plan on doing ever actually happen?;) Haha I woke up with anΒ awful,Β pounding headache. Now, there are some headaches that running can help make go away. This was not one of them…Ah well. At this point what’s another day off really gonna harm? Absolutely nothing, that’s what. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  • 2.5 mile run
  • 15 minutes on the stationary bike

Yay! I finally ran!! Twas not the epic come back that I was hoping for after taking a little over a week off, but hey, I’ll gladly take it! Haha and who the hell actually uses the word “twas” anymore. Me apparently.

I am still absolutely in love with my Zensah holiday socks, in case anyone was wondering. πŸ˜‰

  • Rest Day.

Friday was filled with shopping, and plumbers and heating/cooling maintenance people being at my house working on stuff. It was kinda hectic and I didn’t really have time to do anything haha.

  • 3 miles

This run was a lot of fun!! Haha it took me something like 45 minutes, but I stopped and talked to several of my neighbors and that’s what made it fun anyway. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  • 1 mile
  • lots of running around and getting stuff ready so that Luke and I can drive to Illinois

Haha because that totally counts, right? πŸ˜‰ But anyway, we got the first snow of the season today! Yay!! How neat is it that it snowed on Christmas eve? I thought it was, anyway. So I actually didn’t plan on running today, because I had A LOT that I had to get done and I kinda slept in, so I didn’t have a lot of time to do it. But when I saw that it had snowed I obviously had to go out and do something. πŸ™‚

So yeah, my week’s been kinda crazy, but it’s also been pretty exciting!! πŸ™‚ Luke and I are currently on the road on our way to Illinois and we should be there around 12:30 am. Fun fun fun!

Merry Christmas eve, everyone! I hope you allΒ  have had a wonderful holiday season and have a fantastic Christmas!!

~ Ashley

Halfway Through The Streak, Two Year Blogging Anniversary, and A Few Other Things

Hello and happy Tuesday, friends!! πŸ™‚

As of today I’m officially half way through the Runner’s World winter run streak! Yay!!

So the first two-ish weeks of running at least a mile every single day was tough. I was tired and sore and getting out of bed was basically a huge ordeal. But now, 20 days later, my body has adjusted feels pretty good! I’m not so crazy tired and I’m no more sore than I’d usually be. So that’s a nice change. πŸ™‚

As long as I can keep this going through the Christmas eve/Christmas day adventures Luke and I will be having, since we’re driving to Illinois to spend time with our families, I definitely think I’m going to be able to finish this thing! Haha this is the 3rd year in a row that I’ve attempted it, so I’m pretty excited that I’m actually following through this year. πŸ™‚ And as of right now I plan on finishing day 40 on New Year’s Day and then letting the streak die after that. It’s been pretty interesting overcoming all of the obstacles that life and the holidays have presented and still getting my runs in, but oh man streaking is hard haha. I don’t thing I’ll ever be the person who runs every single day for 10 years or something crazy like that, and I’m a-ok about that!

As for today’s run and running in general over the past week, well, it’s not been great… Ever since my brother in law came to my house followed by his nasty chemical trail of vape cloud grossness, I’ve been coughing, hacking, wheezing, and having trouble running. Ugh I swear vapes are worse than cigarettes and are an asthmatics worst nightmare. And my brother in law has his head shoved too far up his ass to care or even consider the fact that his actions effect other people.

Ugh whatever. Can’t do anything about it now… Just gotta wait and hope that it doesn’t take too long for my lungs to recover and then I should be good to go again. And at the very least I’ve managed to keep up with the streak.

Anyways, back to today’s run. Well, it sucked and part of that was definitely my own fault. Some of you might know that when I was 13 I had an “old fashioned” appendectomy. Apparently now a days they either use lasers to take it out (at least I think it was laser haha) and that only requires a very small incision. Or they just give you antibiotics in hopes that they wont have to take it out at all. But I guess none of that would have mattered for me, because mine ruptured, I almost died, it was a whole thing, and I guess that’s why they had to do it the “old” way. Anyways, since I lack an appendix I have trouble digesting certain things. Mainly sea food and most leafy greens. But this morning I decided to take a gamble on that and put some spinach in my smoothie. I thought maybe if it wasn’t just whole spinach leafs it might be ok. Apparently not…

I ended up spending all morning laid up on my couch with a VERY hot heat pack, because that’s the only thing that helps the terrible cramps I get. Yeah, I won’t be making that mistake again. I still managed to get in a slightly painful mile though, because I AM A BADASS!! Or just really dumb. Probably just really dumb haha. πŸ˜‰ But that’s yet another thing that I’ve managed to overcome on this crazy streaking journey. If anything this is making me mentally stronger and that’s definitely something I need to work on!

So go me for getting my mile in! But now I’m going to end up feeling like shit all day haha. That always happens whenever I eat something I shouldn’t. And go figure the things I can’t eat are super healthy! Like, I can eat pretty much anything fried, that involves simple carbs, or covered in cheese, but I try to eat one of the healthiest vegetables ever and I end up in pain and feeling gross all day. Bodies are weird…

In other news, therunningrebel.com turns 2 today!

That’s pretty freaking neat! Honestly I was really hesitant about starting a blog. I didn’t think I was interesting enough, or my story was good enough, or that I’m not a good enough runner so no one would be inspired by me or even be interested in my running journey, but oh boy was I wrong! I’ve met so many amazing people through this blog and the other social media accounts attached to it (and I’ve been doing a terrible job of keeping up with those people’s blogs and I’m really sorry about that!). People celebrate my accomplishments with me, remind me that setbacks are not failures, motivate me, inspire me, and have great conversations with me. For all of that I am eternally grateful! I’ve also had several people tell me that I’m inspiring (a word I honestly never thought would describe me) and that they appreciate that I post my mile paces, bad days, and things like that. And that is something I get! It can be super intimidating and even demoralizing whenever you’re scrolling through Instagram and seeing all of these incredible runners who are so much faster than you! It’s nice to know that there are people out there who run the same paces that you do and that everyone has bad days, and that all of that is ok!! πŸ™‚

I’ve also been given the opportunity to represent a few brands that I use and believe in as an ambassador and I just think that’s so cool! I’m part of the Honey Stinger Hive (my go to running and adventure fuel), Team Zensah (IΒ adoreΒ their compression socks), and the Stride Squad (thanks to StrideBox I’ve tried so many awesome new things that I never would have before!). I’m not gonna lie, I still feel really weird basically advertising for these brands here on this blog and other social media accounts, but these really are brands that I personally use and believe it. I would never be able to talk about something that I never used or didn’t like, or brands who don’t care about their customers, elite athletes, or ambassador teams.

So yeah, starting this blog opened up new opportunists for me, gave me a voice and a platform in which to use it, introduced me to all sorts of amazing people, and fully immersed me into the absolutely best part of the online running community. And for all of that I will always be grateful! Here’s to many more years of all of that!! πŸ™‚

That’s all I wanted to talk about today! I hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!

You’reΒ digestively challenged, very grateful, streaking friend,

Weekly Recap: November 27th-December 3rd, 2017

  • RWRunStreak Day 5: 5k

Ugh! Why was it 60 degrees out on Monday?!?!? Actually, why has it been super crazy warm for most of November…It’s looking like this winter is shaping up to be another warm and dry one. Sad face. I’m not a fan…

But on the bright side! Monday’s run went pretty well! I felt great so I decided to do a nice little interval workout. Haha so this isn’t technically my 5k PR (I’m still suffering from new watch syndrome πŸ˜‰ ), but hey, I’ll gladly take it!! πŸ™‚

  • RWRunStreak Day 6: 1 mile

So I may or may not have run this mile a little too fast. Especially since I decided to do interval work on Monday. Oops…This is exactly the kind of thing that got me into trouble last time I attempted this streak. I’ve really gotta learn to rein it in haha. But not much I can do about it now and I had a lot of fun, so at least there’s that.

Also, during this run I wore a blaze orange hat, olive green shirt, colorful, foliage print tights, blue shoes, and a bright yellow watch. I am really good at matching things. πŸ˜‰

  • RWRunStreak Day 7: 3 easy miles

Nothing too exciting on Wednesday. Ran down to a pasture to try to see some cows but they weren’t out that morning. Haha oh well. At least I got a couple of miles done. πŸ™‚ I’ve kinda been slacking on everything that was not running so far this week. Oops…I need to get back to doing that.

  • RWRunStreak Day 8: 1 mile

Another not so exciting day of streaking haha. Just did an easy mile to keep it going. πŸ™‚ But my super neato Zensah holiday socks got here on Thursday and I legit waited for them to show up so I could wear them for this mile.

They’re a limited edition par of Zensah socks, but you can still snag yourself a pair here while supplies last!! πŸ™‚

  • RWRunStreak Day 9: 1 easy mile

Just another easy mile on Friday. My legs were feeling a bit tired so I figured I shouldn’t push it too much. Especially since I’m still kinda early into this streak. It’s all good though! I actually manged to run this one “easy” so I’m pretty proud of myself about that. πŸ™‚

  • RWRunStreak Day 10: 5miles
  • 40 minutes of yoga

5 easy peasy miles! Not gonna lie, at this point my legs are pretty tired. But I suppose that’s pretty normal after running 10 days in a row, after taking a little break from running, after a big goal race. πŸ˜‰ Haha I have a feeling that I’m going to end up being super duper tired in the days to come, but I think my body will adjust as long as I stick with it. I have a really bad habit of not sticking with the goals I set for myself and making excuses for not doing it. Like I’m too tired or my legs are too sore or whatever, and then I don’t end up meeting my goals or making any kind of progress. I’m not going to do that this time though. I am going to finish this freaking streak haha.

  • RWRunStreak Day 11: 1 mile
  • Day one of Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred

Today’s run was brought to you by the Foxboro Hot Tubs, becauseΒ IΒ reallyΒ didn’t want to run today. As predicted, I’m tired and my legs hurt. But like I said, I’m not giving up on this thing, so I turned on Stop Drop and Roll because I can’t listen to this album and not move, ya feel me? Got my run done, and then on a whim decided that I wanted to do Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred again. It’s a fun program and it’s been a while since I’ve done it so I figured, why not? Plus I really need to work on my strength so this should help! So basically I’m doing two challenges at a time because I’m crazy. πŸ˜‰ I did feel less sore and tired after the workout though, so that’s good. πŸ™‚ I’m sure I’ll be crazy sore tomorrow though haha.

Total Weekly Mileage: 15.13

So the plan for this month is to start building up my total weekly mileage and just build a much better base through out the winter. The streak should definitely help with that, since I’m going to be running at least a mile everyday. πŸ™‚ I guess 15 miles is a good place to work up from. We’ll see how it actually goes, but right now I’d like to build up to 25-30 by the end of the month and then hopefully 50-60 by maybe February or March. I’m thinking that’ll be good for a nice slow build. I want to get stronger physically and mentally, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than building up my mileage. And a little bit of added strength work as well. πŸ˜‰

Fun Mail Day, The Streak Continues, and Other Thursday Things

Alrighty! I’ve got a bunch of randomness to talk about today, so just bear with me for a little bit. πŸ˜‰

Christmas time is here!!! That means decorating, baking, gift wrapping, Christmas music, lots of packages in the mail, family time, and all sorts of other fun and craziness. Oh man, I love it though. Even though it can become a little bit stressful. πŸ˜‰ So far I’ve got the inside of the house decorated and it looks great!! I still want to hang up the outside lights, but Luke wont let me get on the roof. Something about me being clumsy and not wanting a hospital bill…So I guess he’s gonna have to do it at some point. πŸ˜‰

All of the animals are ok with Christmas, except for Finn. Christmas confuses and upsets him and he’s been spending most of his time hiding outside or in the bedroom. Haha but this is his first Christmas so this is all new to him.

We’ve also officially got a good start on Christmas gifts! We’ve got his mom and his brother and sister on that side of the family taken care of. All that’s left to do is wrap them and ship them off to Minnesota. We also know what we’re getting his dad, one of his brothers on that side of the family, and we bought his other brother on that side of the family his gift. We’ve got one of my sisters taken care of, we know what we’re getting my brother and dad, we’ve just got to figure out my other sister and mom. And we’ve got gifts to each other all figured out. There’s still one thing I want to pick up for him, but I’m gonna take care of that this weekend. πŸ™‚

And I guess that brings me to the fun mail day stuff!! Well, today was supposed to be a fun mail day. A bunch of stuff that Luke and I had ordered over the last week or so was all supposed to come today. But a gift I’d gotten him and my Honey Stinger stuff got delayed. That’s not surprising, shipping stuff gets all kinds of crazy this time of year and I’m not worried about it. I am pretty super excited about my Honey Stinger stuff though.Β They had a crazy awesome cyber Monday sale. Literally everything was 50% off, so I stocked up on waffles and also bought a pair of socks, because I can always use more running socks haha. That’s all supposedly going to make it here tomorrow. Hopefully it does because I’m pretty stoked about all the waffles I bought haha.

Anyways, the stuff he got me for Christmas arrived and I have been told multiple times to stay out of it. Haha that’s pretty hypocritical from someone who told me if he finds where I’ve hidden his Christmas gifts he was going to open it and ruin Christmas (his words, not mine). But whatever. πŸ˜‰ Also my amazing holiday socks from Zensah also came today! I’m so stoked about these socks!! I actually purchased them on the way home from Colorado last Friday because I wanted to make sure I was able to snag a pair and I was afraid they’d sell out pretty quickly. But anyway, I’m so excited that they’re here and they are probably the only pair of socks that I’m going to be wearing all season. πŸ™‚

Also, speaking of Honey Stinger (I’m so good atΒ segues πŸ˜‰ ), I’m super duper excited to announce that I’ve officially been accepted back into the hive for 2018!! Yay! Honey Stinger for real fuels 90% of my running, dog walking, road trips, hiking, and other random adventures. Seriously, I’m not kidding when I say Honey Stinger is my favorite fuel. πŸ™‚

And I guess while we’re on the subject of brands I’m an ambassador for, lets talk about StrideBox for the holidays for a second!! First off, I absolutely love StrideBox! It’s basically like getting a Christmas gift in the mail once a month. πŸ™‚ Second off, if you’re looking for a great gift for one of your runner friends, a gift subscription to StrideBox just might be the way to go!! And now until December 24th, you can use the codeΒ RunningRebel10Β to get 10% off of a 3 or 6 month gift subscription to StrideBox.

Okey Dokey, now that that’s out of the way, lets talk about this run streak for a second!

As of today I’m 8 days in and feeling pretty good! I’m actually really glad to have a goal to keep me going haha. If I didn’t I don’t think I’d have done very much running this week. Not like I’ve actually done a lot of running or anything, but it would have been a lotΒ less if I didn’t have a goal to get out there and do at least a mile every day. πŸ™‚Β So for today I did the bare minimum of a mile, and I legit waited until the mail got here so that I could wear my super spiffy socks. They made me feel better about the fact that it’s been kinda warm and sunny out lately.

Keeping up with the running thing is going well but I’m not doing so well with the stretching/strength training/cross training thing. Well, at least I haven’t been this week. Last week I actually did kinda well with all of that, but I’ve been slacking off for a couple of days now. I definitely need to get back on track with all of that. Especially recovery stuff. I think that just might be important when it comes to the run streak thing. πŸ˜‰ So I spent some time getting reacquainted with my foam roller and yoga mat this afternoon. Yeah, that sucked pretty bad but it was totally worth it! Well, probably haha. Also spent a little bit of time on the stationary bike, just to get my legs moving in a way that’s not running or walking. I figured that would probably be a good idea. πŸ™‚

Torturer tools.Β

Alrighty then! That was basically just a bunch of super duper randomness, but my “Thursday things” posts tend to be just that! But that is all for today I suppose. So Happy Thursday everyone! πŸ™‚
