Happy First Day Of Spring!!

Hahaha flowers like that don’t bloom this time of year here in the Midwest. I just really like this photo (I took it during our family vacation in Florida last July). There are a bunch of daffodils popping up around my neighborhood though, and some of them have started to bloom!

Anyway, we are starting to get some spring-like weather in my part of Kansas. The air is starting to warm up and it rained pretty much all day yesterday. That’s typical spring time weather. We really needed it though. Things were really dry here. Haha and I was pretty excited about that because I love rainy days and think that running in the rain is a lot of fun! πŸ™‚ And yesterday’s 3 miler did not disappoint! I got soaked pretty fast. I also got frostnip on my legs because it was in the low 40’s when I ran. I probably should have put on my wind pants over my running tights. They’re usually pretty good at keeping me relatively dry. But oh well, it really wasn’t that bad and the redness, itchiness, and irritation that came with that was all gone by this morning. That was still totally worth all the fun I had in the rain yesterday.

This morning’s run was nowhere near as fun though. I actually procrastinated doing it by making myself an actual decent breakfast. Who does that?!? Me apparently…

Usually in the morning I can’t be bothered to make anything exciting for breakfast. Sometimes I throw a few frozen, whole wheat waffles in the toaster and then slather them with peanut butter and honey. Other days I’ll just grab a piece of fruit and a cheese stick. Or on really lazy day’s I’ll just eat a Honey Stinger waffle along with my coffee. But I knew running wasn’t going to be very exciting today, so I took a little bit of extra time with my breakfast. I toasted some bread, spread some avocado on it, topped that with sliced, cherry tomatoes, and then fried an egg to go on that as well. Hahaha I know that doesn’t sound too difficult, but in the morning I never feel like putting that much effort into what I’m eating. πŸ˜‰

I did eventually go out and get my run done, though. My 5k training plan called for 2 easy miles followed by a couple of strides, but those 2 miles sure didn’t feel easy… It actually seems to me that most of the “easy” runs I do don’t actually feel easy. They tend to feel more like I’m running through cold molasses. Oh well, I still did it though! Well, the 2 miles. I kinda sorta skipped the strides. I just wasn’t feeling it enough to do those.

But on the bright side, running seems to be going a lot better this week than it did last week! I know it’s only Tuesday, but I’m thinking the rest of the week is going to go pretty well. But maybe I’m only saying that because tomorrow is a rest day and then for Thursday my training plan calls for 30 minutes of cross training, so I wont actually have to run again until Friday. πŸ˜‰ But still, I’m a lot happier about running this week than I was last week, so at least that’s something. πŸ™‚

But anyway, now that spring is here I really need to start thinking about what I want to plant in my garden and I’m going to have to start tilling and preparing my soil here before too long. So far I know I’m definitely going to be growing my staples; tomatoes, banana peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, lettuce, and watermelon. I actually want to grow my vine plants on some kind of structure this year to help make weeding and harvesting a little bit easier. I’ve got a few ideas for that and Luke and I will be starting work on those soon. I also really wish I could get root vegetables to grow a little easier here, but they never do well because the soil here is so full of clay. A lot needs to be done to remedy that…Or you can do raised beds filled with good quality soil but those are kind of expensive to make. Maybe one day though. But for now we’re planning on sticking with plants that we know do well here.

A small harvest from last summer. That watermelon was sooooo good!! Haha I’m on a mission to grow several really good watermelons this year! It seems like each year I’ve grown them I’ve gotten bigger, better melons. And usually a few more than the year before. So I guess I must be learning something! And hopefully if that trend keeps up, I should end up with 5 or 6 really good watermelons this year! πŸ™‚

Now with the addition of our 5 chickens, we should end up getting a pretty decent amount of food from our backyard this year! I’m so freaking excited about having fresh eggs! I can’t wait for my chickens to start laying!! They’ve still got a while to go before they get to that point though. They are doing very well and growing bigger and getting more feathers every day! And as it starts getting even warmer they’re going to be able to spend a little bit more time outside. So far they’ve only been out twice for about 10-15 minutes at a time, just to make sure they didn’t get too cold. But in maybe two or three weeks, as long as it’s warm enough, we’ll be able to move them outside permanently. Haha I have a feeling we wont get that lucky though, it’s probably still going to be pretty chilly in April. If they were fully grown the cold wouldn’t be much of an issue, but when they’re young it’s very important that they’re kept warm.

Oh man, between my garden, the chickens, training for my 5k in May, training for my half marathon in November, the dogs, rabbits, and all of my other critters, plus another vacation we’re going to be going on with Luke’s family, I’m going to be crazy busy this spring and summer! It should be fun though! And besides, I’d much rather be busy than bored. πŸ˜‰

That’s all I’ve got for today! But what about you?

What are you looking forward to this spring? Any exciting plans?

Do you grow a garden? What’s you’re favorite thing to grow?

Does your city allow you to keep chickens? Would you if you could?Β (Technically my city doesn’t allow you to do it without a permit, but when have I ever let rules stop me?!? Luckily my neighbors are cool with it though, so it should be fine. πŸ˜‰ )

Β I hope you’ve had a terrific Tuesday!

Weekly Recap: March 12th-18th, 2018

I’ve been back home for a two weeks now, the 5k that my dad andΒ  I did together was a success, and now I’m pretty much back to scheduled programming. I’m training for my next 5k in May, making plans for my garden, farming chickens, and handling 3 border collies. So you know, same old same old. πŸ™‚

  • Rest Day

I usually try to take my rest days on Sunday, but since the Whiskey run was on Sunday I just moved that to Monday. So Monday was pretty uneventful, but my spiffy new Zensah compression sleeves got here, so there’s that. πŸ™‚

  • Easy 2 miles
  • 15 minutes of strength work

Nothing exciting or fancy on Tuesday. Just doing thing that need to be done.

  • 10 minute warm up on the stationary bike
  • 4 miles

Running is hard…

Seriously did not want to do this run on Wednesday, but I got out there and muddled through it. Barely haha. But I did it and that’s all that matters, right?

  • Rest Day

Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope.

I woke up feeling like shit on Thursday. I was crazy sore, tired, and just gross feeling all around, even though I really hadn’t done anything all week to warrant feeling that way. So I skipped my run and opted to walk the dogs and do some yoga instead. I’m still not entirely sure if I should have just muddled through another run or not. But I mostly think my body was trying to tell me something and that I might have avoided an illness or injury by opting out of Thursday’s run. Either way though, it didn’t get done.

But on the bright side, my Honey Stinger order came on Thursday and I got to try out one of the new Almond butter/dark chocolate snack bars! They. Are. Amazing!! πŸ™‚

  • Walked around the dog park

Well, and spent the whole day running around like crazy trying to get some stuff done haha! Luke’s Friday’s off (he gets a Friday off of work every other week), tend to be like that though. The day started off super rainy and chilly so we weren’t actually sure if we were gonna be able to get the dogs to the park, which was something we desperately wanted to do! So we ended up going to several stores in the mall, and the to Scheels looking for new everyday shoes for Luke and running tights for me. Luke and I are kind of die hard Nike people haha, but we’ve both been a bit disappointed by them lately. They’ve seemed to have done away with Nike Shox (Luke loves them for some reason. I think they’re super uncomfortable and not at all sad to see them go haha). Eventually he did find another pair of Nike’s that he likes though. My problem is the seem to have done away with my favorite kind of running tights. I’ve been looking everywhere for them or something similar for going on 2 years now, but nope, it’s looking like they’ve done away with them as well. Sad face… After being super disappointed at several stores, Luke told me that maybe I should try something new, so I ended up ordering a pair of Oiselle pocket jogger capris. This is the first Oiselle item I’ve ever purchased, so I’m pretty excited for them to get here and see what they’re all about. Plus I’ve always said running gear never has enough pockets, so these capris should solve that issue for me! So. Many. Pockets!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Anyway, after our shopping adventures it had gotten a lot nicer outside and the rain had mostly dissipated, so we took the dogs to the park, did some errands, then had my brother-in-law, his girlfriend, and her 2 kids over for dinner. Haha it was a very busy/eventful day.

  • 30 minutes of yoga

Oh man, my stomach was not happy with me on Saturday. I’m not entirely sure what that was all about, but it probably had something to do with the fact that I have not been eating very well lately. Obviously I need to work on that. So I kept it super easy and did 30 minutes of restorative yoga on Saturday. That ended up feeling really nice. πŸ™‚

  • 20 minutes on the stationary bike

Ugh, Lily and Finn kept Luke and I up all freaking night…That was a whole thing. I had planned on getting in a few miles at the very least today, but after last night’s fiasco that wasn’t going to happen. I always read/hear that after a shitty night of sleep you should go run because it’ll make you feel better, but try telling that to tired, cranky Ashley. Nope, not worth it in her opinion.

So, dyed my hair, cleaned the house, and spent a little bit of time on the stationary bike instead.

So yeah. This was a weird week. Sometimes running kinda gets in the way of life but this week life kinda got in the way of running. It happens and I’m not too worried about it. I have a feeling that next week will be better. πŸ™‚

I hope everyone has had a good weekend!

Weekly Recap March 5th-11th, 2018

I had a lot of fun in Colorado and you definitely can’t beat the views there, but it’s nice to be back home and running the streets that I know like the back of my hand! Plus it’s much more comfortable being back at the elevation that I’m used to haha. Longmont may only be at around 5,000 feet above sea level, which is probably nothing for some people, but I live 1,000 feet above sea level, so that’s a pretty big difference for me! Oh and sleeping in my own bed is also really nice! I do miss waking up to views like these though…

Anyway, lets recap this week, shall we? πŸ™‚

  • 2 easy miles
  • 10 minutes of strength work

My 5k training plan for Running With The Cows started on Monday! So I kicked things off with 2 easy miles because I’m doing a beginner’s plan haha. That seemed like a smarter decision since I’m coming back from about 2 weeks off after breaking my toe and just a not so great winter of running. It’s all good though! I’m thinking this is actually going to end up being really good for me! Anyway, followed my easy run with 10 minutes of strenght work. Mostly because I kinda didn’t want to do it, but also because I had another 5k that I planned on doing with my dad on Sunday so I didn’t want to do anything too crazy that would make me sore for that. Not like a strength session on Monday was likely to still have me feeling sore by Sunday, but still. πŸ˜‰

  • Rest Day
  • 15 minutes of yoga

I like beginner’s training plans because they include a lot of rest. πŸ˜‰ Actually, this is the first actual 5k training plan that I’ve ever done, so I don’t really know if that’s true or not. But I’m gonna go ahead and assume it is. I actually thought about doing another easy mile or two on Tuesday because “I’m definitely at least an intermediate runner” and “miles matter” and “I don’t need 3 rest days in a week”. All of which are probably fair points. But I woke up feeling really tired and still a little run down. Probably from the traveling to, staying in, and then traveling back from Colorado. Let me tell ya, that 10 hour car ride sucks! And my dad, brother, and I managed to make the trip there and back a lot longer than it should have been haha. We all have fun together though.

On Tuesday I also started taking a magnesium supplement. I’ve been reading a lot about it and how is helps support something like 300 different processes in the body, and is supposed to be good for anxiety and teeth health (two things I could use all the help I can get for haha), and I figured since most people are deficient in magnesium I might as well try it out and see if I feel any different because of it.

  • 2 easy miles

Holy cow! According to my Garmin, I got a lot more deep sleep the night before than I usually do! I’m not sure it that was a fluke or because of the magnesium, but I’m definitely interested in finding out! After I took the magnesium on Tuesday night I started to feel really calm and kinda tired after about 5 ish minutes. So I suppose there’s a good possibility that it really did make a difference in my sleep. I’m wondering if anything else will start to feel different as I continue to take it.

Anyway, Wednesday’s run was less than steller. I got chased by a dog again. I’ve actually been chased by this dog several times before. His owner always has him tied out in his front yard and the dog breaks off all the time. It’s really obnoxious and the dog tends to act pretty aggressively. But can’t really do anything about that…

  • 1 hour on the stationary bike

Cross training! Yay! Hahaha not really. Cross training is boring. The stationary bike is boring. Being on it for an hour is a special kind of torturer for me. But watching Green Day things makes it a little bit better.

  • 3 Miles

Whew man, this run was so. Freaking. Hard. Jeez Louise… Can we just talk about how difficult running is the week before your period? Because it really is. I was so tired. I felt like my legs were made of lead and that I was running through a foot of mud. It was pretty awful and tookΒ forever.Β But on the bright side, I found a rubber duck dressed as a gnome on this run. So obviously that made up for everything. πŸ™‚

  • Rest Day

I felt a little better on Saturday. Less tired, but still bleh. I could have definitely run on Saturday. Maybe even should have run on Saturday. But I wanted to feel rested and have my legs feel good for the Whiskey run on Sunday that my dad and I did, so I focused on that instead.

But sticking with the rubber duck theme, yesterday I bought some new compression sleeves yesterday! And the shipped out to me on Saturday and should be here by Monday. I can’t wait for them to get here! They’re so spiffy! Plus I love Zensah’s compression sleeves! They’re pretty great! πŸ™‚

  • Whiskey Run 5k with my dad

Oh man this was so much fun!! We did really well, had lots of fun, got our shot of Whiskey at the end, and had a great breakfast afterwards! Haha that’s all I’ve got about that for now though. I’m gonna try to have a full race recap up at some point tomorrow. Haha there were a few reasons why both of us could have had a really bad day, but like I said, it went really well for both of us! πŸ™‚

Total Weekly Mileage: 10.10

Haha I’ve got a lot of work to do in the weekly mileage department. But I did spend two weeks doing nothing because of my probably broken to, and 10.10 miles is a whole lot better than that! So I’ll gladly take it!

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Weekly Recap: February 19th-25th, 2018

No weekly recap from last week because last week was pretty boring haha. Spent a lot of time resting and icing my toe, hoping that it would heal quickly. Luckily all of that resting seemed to pay off! My toe has been feeling a lot better and I’ve been able to walk on it a lot better. It seems to get a little bit better everyday. πŸ™‚

  • 25 minutes of strength training
  • 30 minutes on the stationary bike

Was finally able to take Lily for a walk on Monday! πŸ™‚ Haha poor Lily, it’s been almost 2 weeks since she’s been on a walk. Dean and Finn don’t mind, they like to spend most of their time in the backyard running around, chasing each other, and barking at squirrels. But Lily has separation anxiety and wont do that. So she’s been quite worked up since she’s been just as stuck inside as I have. But we fixed that on Monday. πŸ™‚ Followed up our walk with some strength work and time on my stationary bike.

  • Rest Day

Monday started out at around 67 degrees with thunderstorms in the forecast. But all the the temperature dropped and by Tuesday the thunderstorms had turned into ice and snow. That was kind of interesting! I’ve seen a thunder snow before (which is just a snow storm with thunder and lighting), but Tuesday was the first time I’d ever seen an ice storm with thunder and lighting. That’s the Midwest for you, I suppose haha.

So thanks to all of the ice and the little bit of snow on the ground, Luke couldn’t make it to work. He tried, but the roads were terrible and our car doesn’t have heat so the ice that was still coming down was freezing to his windshield, so he could hardly see. He didn’t make it very far before he had to turn around and come home. So we used that as an opportunity to hang out all day, cuddled up on the couch with all three dogs and both cats, and playing video games, and watching YouTube videos and finishing an anime series that we’d started at some point a week or so ago. It was nice! πŸ™‚

My sweet boys Dean and Finn are best friends. ❀

  • 30 minutes of strength work
  • 30 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 20 minutes of yoga

By Wednesday my toe was feeling good enough for me to want to experiment with running on it! But the roads were still pretty icy from the ice storm on Tuesday and I definitely didn’t want to aggravate the injury by running on ice. So I decided to work on my biggest weakness instead; my upper body. Mainly my arms. They’re kind of pathetically weak haha. So I did about 30 minutes of body weight exercises with them and with a little bit of ab work thrown in just for fun. πŸ˜‰ Followed that up with some time on my stationary bike and then did a little bit of yoga in the afternoon.

  • 2.5 miles
  • 20 minutes of stretching/foam rolling

Hi my name is Ashley and I’m really good at making really bad decisions. Like attempting to run 2.5 miles on a probably broken toe on roads that were covered in black ice. Like I said, my toe is feeling a lot better, but running on ice still seems like a bad idea. But they had salted the roads at least twice by Thursday morning so how bad could they really be, right? Crazy icy. Super slippery. That’s the answer to that question haha. Lots of slipping, sliding, and walking happened. Oh and lots of laughing too, because the whole situation was just hilarious and I thought it was great. πŸ™‚

  • 45 minutes on the stationary bike

Yesterday Luke’s sister and her oldest son came to Kansas from Oklahoma to see a concert in Kansas City. So before they went to their show we all went out to dinner along with Luke’ brother, his brother’s girlfriend and her kids (who we just met for the very first time last night). We all ended up having a lot of fun! We don’t really get to see Luke’s sister or her kids (she also has 2 younger kids she didn’t have with her). The last time we got to hang out was during our family trip last summer, so it was nice to see them and hang out for a little bit! And meeting my brother-in-laws girlfriend and her kids was nice as well. Her kids are very sweet and she seems really nice. Haha But anyway, long periods of social interaction with big groups of people wear me out! I’m kind of an introvert by nature so that’s pretty typical. So on Friday I kind of needed to rest and recharge. Plus I’m still not so sure about my whole toe situation, so I kinda figured running two days in a row probably wasn’t a great idea, so I stuck with my stationary bike instead. 😊

  • travel day

On Saturday I ended up going to Colorado with my dad! We had an eventful day and did some pretty fun stuff. You can read about all of that here. πŸ™‚

  • sight seeing day

My mom, dad, and I spend most of today out sight seeing and doing a bunch of other fun stuff. It’s a lot to post about here, but I’ll talk all about that in another post soon. πŸ˜‰

I hope everyone has had a good week!

Greetings from Colorado!

Weekly Recap: January 29th – February 4th, 2018

So I may or may not have gotten a little bit distraced last night and didn’t get around to posting my weekly recap. Oops.

But in all fairness, I think most American’s were a little bit distracted last night by the big football thing. Haha not gonna lie, I’m not at all interested. I just watch for the commercials. πŸ˜‰

Anyways, lets get on with it then!

  • 4 miles

Kinda really didn’t want to do this run on Monday. It was another windy day and it wasn’t as fun as last Friday’s super windy run. I got it done though!! πŸ™‚

  • 35 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 15 minutes of strength work

Bleh. Spending time on the stationary bike is definitely not my idea of fun. But it’s probably good that I do. And obviously strenght training is always a good idea! Haha I definitely need to spend more time doing it, but a little something is better than nothing! πŸ˜‰

  • 2 miles

My legs and abs were feeling kinda sore on Wednesday. So obviously that means my tiny bit of strength work did something on Tuesday! πŸ˜‰ Haha sore muscles sure didn’t stop me from turning what was supposed to be an easy run into something that might have been just a little too hard. For the most part I kept the first mile pretty easy, but then my music app crashed, I turned on American Idiot, Jesus of Suburbia came on, and I ran harder for most of the second mile, and ended up negative splitting for the first time in a while (at least I think it’s been a while. Honestly I really haven’t been paying attention to that haha. Oh man, this turned out to be a really fun run. πŸ™‚

  • 35 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 15 minutes of yoga

Hahah was not feeling it on Thursday. I mostly just couldn’t focus on one tasks for any amount of time. Meh, whatever. I still got a little bit done. πŸ™‚

  • Grocery day
  • Took the dogs to the park

I couldn’t in my right mind call Friday a rest day haha. Not with all of the running around and shopping that Luke and I did. Not gonna lie though, grocery shopping day is my favorite day haha. Who doesn’t like obtaining food?!? After that adventure was done and over with we took the dogs to the off leash dog park and let them run around for a while. They definitely enjoyed that. Anyway, Friday was more like a day off running than an actual rest day. It was fun though. πŸ™‚

  • 7 miles

I think this run just might have been the longest I’ve done since I ran my last half marathon back in November. Oops… Surprisingly enough though, it actually went pretty well!! I was initially having fun, fueled by Honey Stinger, compressed by Zensah, of course. πŸ˜‰ But then it started getting really windy, and I’m not a fan of the wind haha. Especially the really strong gusts that can make breathing difficult. So I ended up with 7 miles instead of the 8 I had originally planned on doing, but I’m not to worried about that. It was still a pretty good run.

  • Rest Day

I was feeling kinda bleh on Sunday. That had me a little bit worried for a little bit, because I’ve heard about some kind of awful stomach bug that’s going around and I DO NOT WANT IT!!!! Apparently it involves lots of fluids coming out of both ends. Obviously neither of those things would be fun, but I hate vomiting more than pretty much anything I can think of. It’s the absolute worst in my opinion and I will make myself even more miserable by fighting it for as long as I can. Yeah, that usually doesn’t go well for me, but I hate puking… Luckily neither Luke or myself have gotten that bug though, so hopefully we’ll remain healthy until that thing blows over.

Anyway, Sunday was also the “big game” day football thing. Not gonna lie. I hate football. I don’t understand football. I think football is boring. Haha this tweet sums up my night quite nicely though. And Michelob Ultra replied which was kinda neat haha.

Also, probably an unpopular opinion, but I thought the Justin Timberlake halftime show was terrible… Like, what the hell happened to music?!? Why does it have to be some big, grand, crazy performance instead of a musician just preforming their songs… I don’t know man, I don’t get it. And what was with the Prince thing?!? I mean, didn’t at one point Prince say that was exactly the kind of thing he’d never want to happen?? So I feel like that was kinda disrespectful. Whatever…

Plus I don’t think Justin Timberlake that great. Good grief I feel like I must be getting old, complaining about the popular music that kids these days are listening to. But in all fairness, he’s like 10 years older than me, and I very clearly remember theΒ NSYNC/Back Street Boy rivalry thing. I was always more of a Backstreet Boys girl. Haha that’s a lie, I was more of a just getting into rock music, but mostly into Disney movie sound tracks and lots of country music type of girl. But when asked to pick a side, it was always the Backstreet Boys. πŸ˜‰ But anyway, I’m getting waaaaay off topic here. I’ve got nothing else relevant to say about my week. So I’ll end there. With my rant about music haha.

Happy Monday!! I hope you’re not too hungover/stuffed full of chips and dip/disappointed with the outcome of the game this morning! πŸ˜‰

Weekly Recap: January 22nd-28th, 2018

It would appear that at some point last week, my best guess would be Monday or Wednesday when I decide it would be fun to run on ice/snow, I managed to hurt my foot. Luckily it doesn’t seem too bad. I can still walk on it just fine. But I don’t want it to turn into anything detrimental, so I took last Saturday, last Sunday, and this Monday off from running I’m hopes that it would help. It seemed to, which is great! But this little incident reminded me just how injury prone I am, and that I really need to work on things to supplement my running in order to stay healthy and finally get to work on my goals for this year, because thus far I’ve accomplished very little in the ways of getting those started…

  • 15 minutes of strength work
  • 45 minutes on the stationary bike

  • Rest Day

So, in this post I said I was going to spend some time on the stationary bike or something on Tuesday. I also talked about how tired I’ve been. So obviously we know which one won haha. But I did make another batch of Superhero muffins from Run Fast Eat Slow. Not gonna lie, I’m surprised at how much I love these things, considering the fact that they’ve got a pretty decent amount of vegetables in them. But they are super tasty!! πŸ™‚

  • 2 miles

Ugh, you know it’s a rough week when you’re first run is on Wednesday and it’s super short…But on the bright side, my intention was to just do an easy run, but this one kinda turned into a tempo run. It definitely felt like I was running at a “comfortably hard” pace and I caught myself pushing a little bit up a few hills anyway, so I’m gonna call it a tempo run haha. Plus I had on my super sweet Honey Stinger socks, and running is awesome socks makes it at least 10 times more fun. πŸ˜‰

  • 40 minutes of yoga/foam rolling

Jeez louise, I’ve just felt like a lazy, tired, unmotivated, pile of mush this week. I mean, at least as far as running goes. On Thursday I didn’t feel like running, stationary biking, or doing any kind of productive strength training. Plus I was a little worried about my foot after Wednesday’s run ended up being a little bit harder than it probably should have. It felt fine, but I still want to be careful with it. So I ended up walking all 3 dogs instead, and then spent a decent amount of time on my yoga mat. So at the very least that’s good. πŸ™‚

  • 5 miles

My foot was still feeling 100% fine, so that’s good. I was still feeling super crazy tired even though I got really good sleep the night before, so that kinda sucked. And here in Kansas we were under a wind advisory all day and were experiencing gusts of wind that were up to 45 MPH. Ugh. I will gladly run in the rain, snow, ice, freezing cold, it doesn’t matter. But the one weather condition I hate even more than heat is strong gusts of wind. They suck… But surprisingly even with all of that, this run ended up being a lot of fun! I swear, the best runs happen when you least expect them. Also spent a lot of time playing a fun little game called “dodge the trash can!”, as everyone’s trash cans, recycle bins, and the trash that was once in them were all blowing all over the place because of the wind.

  • Rest Day

Stayed up late on Friday. Woke up late on Saturday. I think I’ve officially messed up my regular sleep schedule at this point. The problem with winter running is that I can get s run done at pretty much any time of day. I don’t have to worry about the sun being up and it being crazy hot out. That’s nice and all, but I tend to use it as an excuse to fall out of a normal sleeping pattern and that’s not a good choice. Especially since when I wake up at 9 am I tend to feel like doing nothing all day. Like I did on Saturday…

Bubbles didn’t mind me not doing anything though. πŸ˜‚

  • 2.38 miles

Another day of staying up late and then sleeping in. Oops. I think I’m gonna have to work on that this week, otherwise I’m gonna be in for a rude awakening when it starts getting warm out and I need to get out before it gets too hot…But anyway, usually I take a rest day on Sunday, but since I did that yesterday I decided to do a quick loop around my neighborhood, so at the very least I’d have a couple more miles in my already super low running mileage bank haha.

All in all, I felt like my week was super unproductive and that I didn’t exactly accomplish much. Util I saw that my Garmin said my training status was “productive” again. I’m not entirely sure just how accurate any of that stuff is, but it’s been a while since it’s said I was being productive, so hey, I’ll take it!! And I think next week is going to end up being a lot better anyway. πŸ™‚

Happy happy Sunday, everyone!!

Thursday Things

I feel like there was quite a bit of good feminine vibes and womanly comradery on the post about periods I wrote on Tuesday. It was pretty great! I deffinitely think that’s something that needs to be talked about more! Although one person didn’t seem to like the quote from Billie Joe Armstrong that I included in the post. This one, to be exact!

I don’t have the exact source for this photo, but I found it on Pintrest. πŸ˜‰

Ah, I love it! It’s one of my favorite quotes. πŸ™‚

Anyway, someone called it “crude” and stated that they don’t think Billie Joe Armstrong will be remembered as a musician. Not gonna lie, I kinda laughed to myself about that. Billie Joe is the singer/song writer/guitarist in Green Day, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, with over 85 million records sold world wide, andΒ  who just so happened to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2015 during their first year of eligibility. So you’re right, Billie Joe Armstrong wont be remembered as a musician. He’ll be remembered as aΒ legendaryΒ musician.

Haha I’m well aware that making that argument is kinda pointless and that it really doesn’t matter. But I like talking about Green Day and I’m gonna jump at any opportunity I have to do it! They are my favorite.

But anyway, the point I want to make here is that obviously everyone is different. We all have different tastes, opinions, and feelings about certain things. And that’s totally awesome! Yay for being different and unique individuals with our own personal thoughts and feelings! I really don’t care if you don’t like Green Day, punk rock (and I’m warning everyone now, I refuse to get into the argument about what is or isn’t “punk”, so don’t try to start it with me), and the rebellious “fuck ’em all”, “give ’em hell” attitude that comes with things like that. I think it’s fucking great and it feel right and real to me! But that just doesn’t do it for some people and I get that! But I don’t understand the point of making negative comments about the things other people like just because you don’t like it (unless the thing that person likes is causing actual harm to someone, but that’s a whole other issue). Seriously! Why?? I don’t get it. You know what I’m not a fan of? Cheesy romance novels. But I’m not gonna go around telling people who read and enjoy them that they’re terrible books and that it’s a shame that they talk about them.

Whatever. The other point I’m trying to make here is that I’m not going to change what I like, do, or post here onΒ my blog, just because someone doesn’t like it. Not gonna happen. I’m gonna keep doing me, and if you don’t like it, you can kindly fuck off.

I know that came off kind of aggressive, but come on, IΒ hadΒ to do it! πŸ˜‰ Seriously though, if you don’t like what I talk about or post here, then don’t read it. I feel like it should be as simple as that.

Anyways, We’ve been having some kind of weird combination of winter and spring going on here in Kansas. Earlier this week we got a little bit of snow, but today it’s 50 degrees and sunny and I already miss the winter…Although I can’t deny the appeal of a warmer sunny day, at least not all the time. πŸ˜‰ I didn’t end up running today. Mostly because yesterday it was in the 30’s and I was super excited about that, so my run ended up being a little bit harder than it should have been haha. Luckily that didn’t seem to re irritate my sore foot so that’s great! But I also didn’t want to push it haha. So I ended up spending a lot of time walking my dogs instead. Obviously that made them all super happy, so that was a definite win for today!

I also spent a little bit of time on my yoga mat, stretching and rolling out some sore spots. Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but I always feel so much better when I do it. Plus like I’ve mentioned before, I’m trying to do all of the little extra things to hopefully prevent me from obtaining any injuries. Because oh man am I good at getting those! πŸ˜‰ I probably should have done a little bit of strength work as well, but eh, I’m gonna stick with one boring thing at a time.

40 minutes of stretching/foam rolling goodness.

After that was done I spent the rest of my afternoon working on a few other blog posts and attempting to clean my house. Haha if you saw my post about mud a few days ago, well, most of my house still looks like that. Well, kinda. It’s notΒ asΒ bad anymore. But my backyard is currently a huuuge, muddy disaster, and the dogs just bring it all inside. Especially Finn and Dean. They like to spend most of their time outside running around, wrestling and herding each other. So they’re just covered head to tail in mud and dirt…Sometimes I legit just want to build a kennel out there and just have them live out there whenever it gets gross outside. That probably won’t happen though. Doing stuff like that can get expensive. Plus they would probably spend all night barking at the stray cat that likes to wander around in the easement behind our backyard and I don’t think our neighbors would appreciate that haha. So yeah, when it’s muddy outside it gets muddy inside, and I end up spending an absurd amount of time sweeping/vacuuming/mopping up mud.

Along with dealing with all of that, last night Luke and I also started cleaning out my brother-in-law’s room since he doesn’t live here anymore, and boxing up all of the stuff he left behind (and there was a lot of it for some reason). And then we moved the rabbits and ferrets in there, and at some point Luke also wants to move our gecko in there as well. So now we have a whole room dedicated to our petting zoo haha. It’s kinda nice having them all in one place and all of their messes contained into a single room though. πŸ™‚ So I also had to do some hardcore scrubbing of the floors where their cages used to be. Whew! It definitely feels good having all of that taken care of! And now we have more room in our bedroom/kitchen since there aren’t animal cages in there anymore, and that’s pretty sweet!

Alrighty then! I think that’s all I’ve got for today!

Happy Friday eve!!

You’re Green Day obsessed, partially purple haired, totally punk rock (yeah probably not hahaha), blogger friend,
