Will (and did) Run For Pizza, Tomatoes, Zucchini, and Green Beans, Oh My! And One More Week Until Running With The Cows! ๐Ÿฎ

Ya know, I don’t think that title is long enough. I feel like I could have done a lot better. I mean, why not just write the whole blog post in the title? Problem solved! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Haha obviously coming up with catchy titles is not my strong suit, but whatever, I make it work. I think…

Anyway, Luke and I have officially got our garden started! Last year we had to rent a tiller because ours had broken and neither of us knew how to fix it and we kinda didn’t want to mess with it anyway. But yesterday we bought a new one because it was on sale at Tractor Supply, and because why not? ๐Ÿ˜‰ So once we had that we were pretty much set on everything else, so we went to a local farm to get our plants.

I think the very first year that we lived in this house we started most of our plants from seeds, but that’s a lot of extra work haha! Plus I really like this farm we get ours from. Everything there is organic, non GMO, and the plants always look really good and do well, so that’s where we’ve been getting and will probably continue getting our plants. This year we ended up getting 16 tomato plants (8 “Jet Star” plants and 6 cherry tomato plants), 4 zucchini plants, 4 banana pepper plants, 4 watermelon plants, 2 green bean plants, another strawberry plant, 1 black berry bush, 1 raspberry bush, and a goji berry bush. We also wanted a few cucumber plants but they didn’t have any so we’ll have to get those somewhere else and hopefully really soon!

So now that we were armed with our new tiller and most of the plants that we wanted, Luke recruited his brother and his whole crew to come “help” us put in the plants. Originally he just wanted him there because Luke wanted to build some structures for all of the vine plants, but we didn’t end up getting to that last night. We did, however, get some tilling done and the tomatoes, peppers, and berry bushes planted! I even had 3 kids (my brother-in-law’s girlfriend’s kids and my next door neighbor) fighting over who got to dig the next hole for me haha. That was pretty funny but it also kinda made the whole process take a little longer. Oh well, at least they had fun and we got some of our plants into the ground.

During all of those shenanigans Luke had ordered pizza, and while I was eating I realized I was wearing a very fitting shirt haha! And I mean, it is very true, I will definitely run for pizza! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Actually, what I really like to do is have pizza for dinner the night before my long run, because it always seems like when I do my long runs go soo much better haha. Still not sure if that’s just a coincidence or not, buy hey, I’ll gladly say its true if it means I get to eat more pizza. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ˜‰ And at that point I was thinking that ended up working out really well for me, because I’d planned on doing a long run today.

That didn’t exactly end up happening though. When I woke up this morning my calves were crazy sore. Not sure how I managed that one, but they were. Plus I was feeling kinda tired. I guess that’s not very surprising considering all of our gardening adventures last night. But I told myself I was gonna try for 8 miles anyway. And foolishly thought to myself that hey, maybe it’ll go really well and I can do 10. I did not do 10…

I felt alright during the first 3 ish miles, but by the time I got to 5 I was just absolutely done. The sun was all the way up at that point and I had started to heat up even more than I already was which sucks. Being hot is like, my least favorite thing ever, and it kinda turns me into a huge baby. But I stuck it out through another mile and a half before I just called it quits. Ooooh man it was really hard. But I’m happy with the 6.5 miles I got done. ๐Ÿ™‚

Honestly I’m thinking it’s not a bad thing that I didn’t run 10 miles today. My next 5k is next Saturday and obviously I want to good and have fresh legs for that! And I mean, I’m pretty freaking stoked for this race! I did it once before in 2016 and it was so much fun! There were goats and a baby cow at the start/finish line, the course was pretty, rural, and full of cows, and there was a HUGE buffet at the end. Seriously, there was SO. MUCH. FOOD. It’s definitely my kind of race! And maybe one day I’ll end up running the half instead of the 5k haha. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Originally I was doing a 5k specific training plan for this race, but that kinda went to the wayside once I made the potentially bad decision to run two half marathons in two days. Haha I’m running the Longview half on November 10th and on November 11th my dad, brother, and I are going to do the Gobbler Grind half marathon so that should be interesting. But the second my dad signed us up for the Gobbler Grind I pretty much stopped everything I was doing and started focusing on milesย miles miles. I really need to start getting more in now that I’m attempting the crazy stunt, so I’ve been focusing on upping my mileage and have pretty much stopped doing speed work. Although I have thrown in a few short and fast sessions in over the last few weeks, just for fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

But anyway, I haven’t completely given up on the time goal I had for Running With the Cows though. Depending what kind of weather we get on race day (have I mentioned how big of a baby I am when it comes to hot/sunny weather? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and how I’m feeling next Saturday, I think I might actually be able to do pretty well! I mean, my dad and I crushed it at the Whiskey 5k we did together in March and I kinda want to see if I can do this race faster. But I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what race day brings! I’m pretty excited for it! But I’m even more excited about the buffet at the end. I’m definitely gonna go all out on that. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okey dokey then! I just kinda wanted to give a little update on what I’ve been up to and to say how stoked I am about Running With The Cows next week! So that is all for today!

Happy Saturday from me and this chubby bunny!

Will Run For Pizza, Mornings Are Hard, A Garden Update, And Other Saturday Stuff

It seems like my rest days are always jam packed with all sorts of activities and things that need to get done, and this Friday was no different. Luke and I finally got Finn into the vet for his last round of puppy shots and got him started on heart worm and flea/tick prevention. Now we just have to wait a few weeks to get his rabies vaccine and then he’ll be good to go until next year!

Luke and I had made bets about how he was going to handle being at the vet’s office, meeting new people, and then getting his shots. For the most part he acted pretty much how we thought he would. He was super excited to meet everyone, the other dogs in the waiting room made him kinda nervous but he handled it well, and he even enjoyed getting on the scale to be weighed (he’s gained 10 pounds since we got him! He was 11 pounds when we brought him home and yesterday at the vet he weighed in at 21 pounds. He’s growing so fast!!). We were both surprised at how well he handled the shots though. He can be a really big baby at home sometimes. Like when he’s chasing the cat and she scratches him, or getting too rough with Lily so she nips at him. The way he cries you’d swear he was dying… But the shots didn’t phase him at all, which was great! And he left the vet’s with a clean bill of health. ๐Ÿ™‚

After Finn’s appointment Luke and I took all of the dogs to the dog park, dropped them back off and went grocery shopping, went to the DMV which was a whole thing. Luke wanted to renew the tags on his car and his brother’s car first thing in the morning, but his brother was at his girlfriends the night before and didn’t get us his insurance card until 10:30 am. So by then there was a 4 hour wait at the DMV closest to us, so we drove 40 minutes away to the other one that only had a 1 hour 40 minute wait. So while we were waiting for our turn we ate some lunch and then went to Khols because I really really really need some summer clothes. While we we’re there I ment to only get “real” clothes since I have plenty of active wear, but I absolutely needed to get this shirt. I mean, it’s a very accurate statement! And I’m totally going to wear it as a regular shirt anyway. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After our little shopping adventure we got into the DMV just as our number was called, got all of that taken care of and drove back home. Once we got back Luke mowed the backyard while I did a little bit of weeding in the garden and then played with the dogs. After that it was about 3:30 pm and we had every intention of calling it a day and to spend our evening hanging out and playing video games or whatever. Until we realized we had forgotten to pick up a few things. So we piled back into the car, drove to Walmart and got what we needed, along with a huge water bottle/jug thing that holds 2 liters of water. I’m pretty darn excited about that. And then went back home and around 4:40 pm we called it a day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Seriously though, grocery day is my favorite day! Plus look how happy and healthy our cart is. ๐Ÿ™‚

It was really pretty outside yesterday. I think the high was around 77 degrees which is a little hot for my tastes, but I can admit that partly cloudy, warm, sunny days are kinda nice. But once it starts getting really warm it starts getting really hard for me to sleep. I get so hot so easily and being hot is super uncomfortable for me and that makes it hard to sleep… Which makes mornings really hard. Especially mornings when I try to wake up earlier, like I did today. I got up at 5 am, let the dogs out, then went right back to bed and didn’t get back up until 6:40. And even then I really didn’t want to get up. But I knew every extra second I spent in bed was just another second that the sun spent getting higher in the sky and the hotter the pavement was getting. Yuck. I hate warm weather running.

Luckily I did do a few things last night that made this morning a tiny bit easier. I prepped my coffee maker and had my coffee mug, honey, and spoon all sitting on the counter and ready to go. So I didn’t have to fumble around for all of that. All I had to do was press a button and get my soy milk out of the fridge, so that was really nice. I also laid out my running gear in one place, so I didn’t have to run around all over the house looking for it. So at least things were a little bit easier. But I still didn’t get out on the road until around 8 am because I procrastinated with breakfast. Oh well, baby steps right? Tomorrow I’m totally getting out on the road earlier for my long run.

I totally wish I would have done that today. My run was hot, slow, and slightly miserable. Getting up and out the door about 2 hours earlier probably would have helped a lot but oh well, I got it done and I’m probably better for it. Sometimes I kinda wish I enjoyed the warm weather a little bit more, but I’m a cold weather person through and through and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

Also, how pretty is my strawberry plant?! I’ve never seen a strawberry plant with such vibrant pink flowers. From what I’ve seen they’re usually a paler shade of pink. I’m not complaining though, it’s so super pretty. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s got quite a few flowers growing on it (this is the only one pictured because it’s the biggest and prettiest) so I’m hoping I end up with a bunch of berries! Nothing is better than a fresh picked strawberry that’s still warm from the sun!

The rest of my garden is doing pretty well too! My broccoli, brussel sprouts, and lettuce are all coming up and growing! I’ve even been able to weed out some of the weaker plants so I’d say they’re off to a good start! My carrots and onions aren’t doing as well though. Only a few carrot plants have popped up and they haven’t really grown much yet. And I haven’t been able to find any of my onion plants yet. I’m really hoping they’ll catch up eventually, but honestly our soil isn’t really any good for root plants. It’s got too much clay in it. What I really need to do is mix some sand in the plots that I want to grow root plants in, but since I’ve already planted the seeds it’s a little late for that. Maybe next year though.

And oh my gosh you guys! I cannot even begin to describe to you how freaking exited I am about my peach tree!!! It’s covered in all sorts of little, green, baby peaches, and it’s just super green and lush looking in general. It didn’t produce any peaches last year but it did a lot of growing. So I’m hoping this year it stops growing and produces a lot of peaches, and it looks like it just might! But I guess we’ll still have to wait and see what happens with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tiny little peach!

Haha I guess I got a little bit off track there, but anyways…After my run I enjoyed a nice post run shower Gatorade. Yup. Some people drink shower beer, but I prefer a nice cold Gatorade after a warm weather run. Especially since I tend to get really bad headaches if I don’t drink some kind of electrolyte replacement after warmer run, and the shower just seems like a really good place to do it.

img_2905

I’ve been in a very green mood lately, and I think my shampoo/conditioner, Gatorade, and green instagram snapchat caption proves it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After my shower shenanigans, I gathered up my laptop and giant water bottle so I could do some blogging while hanging out with the dogs in the backyard. Aside from the fact that it was really hard to read my laptop screen in the sun, that was really nice! Our backyard is really green (told you, I’m all about the color green right now) and pretty. Especially since Luke mowed it yesterday. And I don’t care what anyone else says, the Midwest is just a super pretty place in general. Sure we don’t have any big mountains, or red dirt, or ocean views, or anything like that. But we do have beautiful trees (at least until you get into western Kansas), plenty of wooded areas (the woods is my favorite), fields full of lush green grass and beautiful wildflowers, pretty rolling hills all through out Missouri and the part of Kansas I live in, and I even think all the corn and bean fields are pretty in their own way. And don’t even get me started on old farm houses and barns. Those are the best. Oh and all the cows are super neat too.

I realize that I just went on a really weird tangent, but I really do love living in the Midwest.

After hanging outside for a bit I made myself a bacon, egg, and guacamole sandwich. Oh man that was the best thing ever! I mean, you already can’t beat a bacon and egg sandwich, and the guacamole just made it that much better! ๐Ÿ™‚ Once that was all shoved into my face-hole I got to work on the mounds and mounds of dirty clothes that were all over my bedroom and bathroom. I’m not entirely sure how just Luke and I create so much laundry, but we totally do haha. While I had the washer and dryer running I got to cleaning the rest of the house, since I was kinda in a cleaning mood after that. I wish I had hardcore cleaning moods more often. My house would be much more tidy if that were the case, but alas, cleaning sucks total ass.

Around 4:30 pm we decided to take the dogs to the dog park. Dean is teaching Finn to chase birds so that’s a lot of fun to watch. They just run around the big open feild flushing birds out of the grass. Poor Finn has little legs and can’t quite keep up with Dean yet, but he sure tries! He’s also learning how to stay in one place until released. Lily and Dean are already really good at that, but Finn was sure happy to sit still after running around with Dean for a while.

Now we’re home and probably just going to hang out for the rest of the evening. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Do you run for pizza? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you think grocery shopping is fun?

How was your Saturday? Do anything exciting?
