Weekly Recap: November 26th – December 2nd, 2018

Finally starting to feel a little more normal this week! After my races and then a whole week off from running I was feeling off and having a bit of trouble getting back into the swing of things. I’m getting there though!! This week certainly looked more like a normal running week for me and for that I am extremely grateful! ๐Ÿ˜Š I feel like starting another holiday run streak has really helped! It’s definitely given me the motivation to get out the door and run, and the more I run the more normal I feel! ๐Ÿ˜

Monday:

  • 2 snowy, icy, slushy miles
  • 25 minutes yoga

So we had a legit blizzard on Sunday. Like for real! It was insane! And guess who ran during it! That’s right, this girl! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Oh man, that was probably insanely dangerous as we were experiencing white out conditions, but it was also a lot of fun!!

Anyway, on Monday the sun was shining but there was still quite a lot of snow, ice, and slush on the ground. I know a lot of people hate it when the roads look like this, but I have soooo much fun running in this kinda stuff! Winter running is my favorite. Even if it does involve some slipping and sliding. โ„๏ธโ›„๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Tuesday:

    3 miles
    20 minutes strength work

Another snowy run! Yay!!

Well, kinda. The roads were mostly clear on Tuesday, but there were still some really icy spots. Most of them were short enough for me to dodge, but some of them were longer and required slow, deliberate tiptoeing over. Hahaha that’s what’s fun about running on ice and snow. It really makes you have to focus and think about where your feet are going. One misstep and you could end up on the ground. Luckily I’ve always been really good at picking out good footing in the ice and snow. At this point I I’ve never lost my footing enough to actually fall, which is pretty impressive considering how big of a klutz I am. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Anyway, followed my run with some lower body strength work! I’m definitely getting back into the swing of things and it feels good!!

Wednesday:

    2 miles

I just like winter running. Winter running is my favorite. โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

You guys, the snow is still sticking around! It started getting all mushy and melty Wednesday afternoon. Still though, I’ve been enjoying it. ๐Ÿ˜

Thursday:

  • 1 mile
  • 20 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 10 minutes ab work

Nice and easy 1 mile just to keep my run streak going. Followed that up with 29 minutes on my stationary bike and then 10 minutes of ab work, just for fun. Also broke out my all time favorite Christmas Zensah compression socks! ‘It’s the season!! ๐ŸฆŒโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

Friday:

  • 2.57 miles

Friday’s Run was supposed to be easy but it sure didn’t feel that way. Running is like that sometimes. But I was still smiling because running is a gift. Even on days when it feels hard.

Saturday:

  • 4 miles

4 fantastic miles to kick off the new month!!

Getting back into a more regular running routine has been a bit of a challenge, but Saturday’s run was the best if felt on a run in a LONG time! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„ I think I’m finally ready to start doing some real work again now!!

Sunday:

  • 1 mile

Just one easy mile to keep the streak alive! Nothin’ fancy, but it did feel really good!!

Alrighty! I’ve been not-so-patiently been waiting for this week to get over so I can start using my new Believe Training Journal! I mean, I could have started using it the day I got it, but I thought it made more sense to start it on the first Monday of a month! I’m dreaming big for 2019 and I think this journal will be a fantastic tool to help me make shit happen! I. Am. Stoked!!

Weekly Recap: October 29th – November 4th, 2018

This week has been all about listening to my body. I’ve felt really tired and like I might be getting sick…Luckily that feeling has passed for the most part. I’ve still got a bit of a cough, but that seems to be getting better too! So hopefully I’ll be healthy and ready to go next weekend!

So I ended up doing less running than I had planned on for this week, but I think that was for the best all things considered. And even though I have felt kind of off this week I still had a few really good runs. ๐Ÿ™‚

Monday:

  • Rest day
  • 30 minutes of yoga

Thank goodness!!! Haha I was EXHAUSTED after my 10 mile run on Saturday and 7 mile run on Sunday. Those were fun runs, but I was glad to have a day off from running.

Anyway, I spent about 30 minutes doing some nice and easy yoga. ๐Ÿ˜Š So this isnโ€™t the best example, but pigeon pose is one of my all time favorite yoga poses. My hips can be a little bit finicky so this pose feels fantastic! Every once in a while I just like to hang out here for a wile. Itโ€™s great. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Tuesday:

  • Rest day
  • 10 minutes of yoga

I actually had an interval workout scheduled for Tuesday. But I was still really tired haha. I also didn’t feel like doing much of anything. I tried to get in another decent yoga session, but I wasn’t feeling it. I did end up waking Lily and Dean pretty far though. So at least there’s that. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wednesday:

  • 4 miles, intervals
  • 25 minutes of yoga

Yay Halloween!!! I spent a lot of time checking out people’s jack-o-lanterns during Wednesday’s run. There were some really good ones in my neighborhood this year! Plus the weather was great and I felt really good. I had a great run. Lots of sniffling and coughing, but still great. ๐Ÿ˜

Thursday:

    3 miles

It’s so hard to do easy runs when you sit wanna gooooo! Hahaha but I still got a justifiably easy 3 miles done on Thursday. ๐Ÿ˜ Afterwards I took all of our Halloween decorations down and then spend the rest of the day babysitting my next door neighbor. We listened to music, played with the dogs and chickens, colored, played a few board games, and then watched a movie and ate Halloween candy. We have a lot of fun together. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Also, it was kinda sad taking down all of my decorations. Now my house and front yard look super empty. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Friday:

  • rest day

By Friday I really wasn’t feeling great. Oh man I was sooo tired… So I sat. Haha that was pretty much it. Sat, read a book, drank lots of water, and just kinda chilled all day. Apparently Whiskey was on the same page as me on Friday because she napped most of the day haha. She ended up being crazy wound up on Saturday after all of that sleeping though!

Saturday:

  • 7 miles
  • 45 minutes of stretching and foam rolling

Last long run! Yay!

Haha I could have probably used a more encouraging run as my last long run, but I did not get that. The first 3 miles were kind of rough. But after quite a bit of coughing and some sneezing I started feeling a lot better, and the rest of the run went a little bit smoother. So I has actually planned on doing 8, but for some reason 7 miles sounded a lot more doable, so that’s where I ended up haha.

Later that afternoon I spent a good amount of time stretching and just kinda slowly working out some stiffness and loosing things up a bit. It was pretty fantastic, really. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday:

  • rest day

Ah Sunday. Sunday’s were always my day off from running. I rarely ever do any kind of running or working out. Sunday’s have always been my chance to let the work I did over the week marinate a little bit and to gear up for what’s coming up for the next week. Which is part of what I did today. But this training cycle I’ve found myself doing some hard work on a couple of Sundays! I mean, if I’m gonna do back to back halfs then I should do some back to back longish runs, right? And I did! But doing that always felt weird haha. Sunday’s are usually for resting, so I think it’s going to feel even weirder doing a race on a Sunday!

Anyway, I spent the morning of this Sunday watching the elites races the New York City Marathon. Oh man, I couldn’t ask for better inspiration and motivation a week before my two halfs! It was a fantastic race and I’m not going to do any kind of recap of it here, because there’s no way I could do it justice. But I was so inspired by the tenacity, grit, and utter determination of some of the elite runners. And that inspiration continued through out the day as I kept up with other stories from the NYC marathon on social media. If you ever need to be reminded that humans can actually be good, watch a race on TV, spectate or volunteer at a local running event, or better yet, run one yourself! That’s one of the reasons that I love running. It bring people from all walks of life, race, ethnicity, gender, religious back grounds, and whatever else together in just the best way possible. Watch a race like this and you’ll see complete strangers coming together and supporting one another and it’s just such a wonderful thing to witness. And I’m sure it’s even better to be there and really experience it!

Anyway, while I was watching every once in a while someone in the crowds would whistle and that really confused Whiskey. Poor baby didn’t understand what was going on. Haha it was also kind of adorable watching her ears perk up and her looking at the tv trying to figure out what the heck was going on.

Alrighty then, I am feeling better today so that is definitely a good sign! Like I said, I ended up running less than planned this week, but honestly that probably helped prevent me from getting full blown, gross, achy, snotty, nasty sick. So I’m incredibly thankful for that! ๐Ÿ™‚

Total Weekly Mileage: 14.01

I’m grateful for every mile that I was able to run, but also for the fact that I was able to listen to my body and give it the rest in obviously needed!

But that’s it! All of the work is done! Next week is going to continue to be about rest, hydration, and some easy running, all leading up to the grand finale and completing my two half marathons in two days! I’m hoping I’m going to be able to get something accomplished at the first one because the second one is probably going to be super slow (even for me!) because my dad wasn’t really able to do much training for it. Haha I’m sure we’ll still have lots of fun though!

I’m currently very excited and can’t wait for next weekend to get here! Bring. It. On!

Weekly Recap: October 22nd-28th, 2018

This is it! Peak week is officially done! Bring on the taper!!!

Haha I’ve been really dreading my taper. I think mostly because the past few weeks have been a lot of fun and I don’t want it to end! And I’m not sure what I’m going to do with myself after my two half marathons in two days challenge is over. Usually I like to have a plan on what’s coming after a big goal like this (even if it’s just a small plan or goal). I guess I’d better come up with something soon! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Anyway, peak week went pretty smoothly! Here’s what went down;

Monday:

    3 easy miles
    10 minutes of yoga

Ok, so for the most part things did go really well this week, but on Monday I wasn’t feeling it. Or much of anything really. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I went out and did my planned run though. I should have done some more yoga or at least thrown in some foam rolling, but meh, wasn’t feeling it. Haha at least I did a little something something though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tuesday:

  • 4 miles, interval work

Holy cow this was a fantastic run! I had so much fun!! Don’t get me wrong, I still put in a lot of work though. But even so, I still managed to take lots of photos of the beautiful fall foliage (although a lot of them turned out slightly blurry ๐Ÿ˜‚). All the trees are starting to turn all sorts of pretty colors. It’s great!

Anyway, I had planned on doing some strength work as well, but then I got kinda busy deep cleaning the bathroom, walking dogs, and baby sitting my neighbor’s kid. But my run was fantastic so I’d say my whole day was pretty fantastic! ๐Ÿ˜„

Wednesday:

  • 3 miles
  • 15 minutes of Pilates

Yet another gorgeous day on Wednesday! Actually this whole week has just been amazing, in regards to the weather! All week I’ve been watching the subtle changes in all of the fall foliage during my runs. It’s been wonderful! This has definitely been one of the most colorful falls we’ve had in several years, so I’ve been doing my best to soak it all in. I’ve taken about a bazillion photos in the process of soaking it all in haha. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ–ค

Thursday:

  • rest day

Thursday was supposed to be a cross train day but it ended up as a rest day. I had some kind of rash/allergic reaction to something (I think it might have been something in a bottle of apple cider we had. It only happened after I drank it and never came back since I’ve stopped drinking it). So I was not feeling too great. Plus I was just kinda tired in general haha. But I suppose one should be feeling a little bit tired during their peak week. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, Whiskey got her first ever bath on Thursday. She was not a fan… Haha but luckily she got over it very quickly and still wanted to be my friend afterwards. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Friday:ย 

  • rest day

Another rest day, yay! Hahaha and this one was actually planned! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Luke and I spent the morning getting groceries and running some errands. After that we hung out at home for the rest of the day. We played with the dogs in the backyard for a little while and messed with the chickens, and then our 4 year old neighbor came over so we hung out with her for a while and then had a little pizza party because everyone was hungry but Luke and I didn’t feel like cooking. ๐Ÿ˜‚ It was a good time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday:

  • 10 miles

Alrighty! This weekended brought the real fun stuff! The plan was to do a long run on Saturday and then another long-ish run on Sunday and to get to the highest mileage I’ve ever done two days in a row. Fun stuff, man!

I accomplished Saturday’s run with out any issues. I was feeling kinda tired though and I didn’t feel as great as I would have liked to for this run. It was slow slow slow going. But hey, at least I did it! And I didn’t get chased by any obnoxious dogs! That’s always a nice bonus hahahaha. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

So I’m sure a bunch of people were out doing lots of fun, spooky things on Saturday night, since it’s Halloween weekend. If you did I hope you had lots of fun!! Haha but since Luke had to work in the morning and I had another run to do, we stayed home and carved our pumpkins instead. That was the extent of our spooky activities for the day, but it was a lot of fun.๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ–ค

Sunday:

  • 7 miles

Getting out of bed this morning was a little bit of a struggle. Then the first 3 ish miles of this run were HARD. But after that things started feeling a lot better! Slow, but still, better. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now my legs are very tired. Actually, all of me is very tired haha. But honestly I feel really good! I’ve made it through almost an entire training cycle with out getting injured *knock on wood*. I’ve managed to up my mileage, not a lot or as much as I would have liked, but still, I’m making progress and moving forward and that’s really really cool!

Now it’s time to taper and in two weeks I get to see what I can do and accomplish during my two half marathons! I’m pretty excited!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Total Weekly Mileage:

Now, I can’t say with any certainty that this is the most mileage I’ve ever run in a week (I guess I could go check on Garmin Connect, but I’m too lazy to do that. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), but it’s definitively up there! It’s looking like I’m going to go over 90 miles for the month which is super cool and something I know I’ve never done before! This training cycle has been full of new things and I think that’s just super awesome! At this point in my running life I’m pretty comfortable with the half marathon distance, and while I’m still learning about racing andย reallyย pushing yourself, I’m still comfortable enough to start trying some new things. I’m not sure how the training I’ve done this time around is going to end up affecting me come race day, but I’m pretty confident that I’m going to be able to finish my back to back half marathons without dying haha.

Anyway, taper time is here and I’m going to do my best to embrace it!

Weekly Recap: October 15th-21st, 2018

I felt like this week was going relatively smoothly until my long run on Saturday. Other than that I did everything I had planned and felt pretty good doing it. Well, there were times when I felt kinda tired and sluggish, but it was nothing too bad. Plus at this point in half marathon training that’s pretty much to be expected!

So here’s what went down this week;

Monday:

  • 3 miles

It felt like 26 degrees on my run on Monday! I got to break out my winter running gear and that was pretty exciting! It was nice, cold, and beautiful outside on Monday.

The original plan was to do an easy run. It was still kinda recovering from a cold and from all of the fun we had over the weekend while we were in Illinois. But my legs were feeling speedy on Monday so I just kinda went with it. It was fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tuesday:ย 

  • 5 miles

I was feeling a little bit sluggish on Tuesday. It wasn’t too bad, I still got through my scheduled 5 miler, it just wasn’t as fun as Monday’s run haha.

Wednesday:

  • 3 miles
  • a little bit of stretching

It was another beautiful fall day in Kansas! I’ve been loving the weather! ๐Ÿ™‚ Although my run on Wednesday wasn’t all that great, it wasn’t terrible either. I’ve really been enjoying watching all of the leaves starting to change colors. There are some really pretty ones in my neighborhood right now and it’s just going to bet better and better as fall goes on. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thursday:

  • 3 miles
  • 30 minutes of pilates
  • 15 minutes of yoga

It was just a little bit warmer on Thursday, but still beautiful outside! Still would have been a great day for running if it wasn’t so windy! I spent my 3 miles battling with the wind, but I was still able to do a semi-speedy run, which is what I wanted to do for Thursday. ๐Ÿ™‚ Later in the afternoon I did some Pilates and then yoga in the evening.

Friday:

  • rest day
  • 20 minutes of yoga

I felt REALLY good after those 20 minutes of yoga! It was pretty great haha. Other than that I spent most of my Friday getting my gear ready and just kinda prepping in general for my long run. Stuff like washing all of the gear I wanted to wear and getting it all into one place, making sure I knew what I was having for breakfast, setting the coffee maker, and making sure I was hydrated. Stuff like that really helps the mornings of my long runs go much more smoothly. ๐Ÿ™‚

That night I got lots and lots and lots of puppy cuddles. It was adorable and annoying all at the same time haha.

Saturday:

  • 12.69 miles
  • 25 minutes of stretching/foam rolling

Well you guys I gave it my all, but today my all just wasnโ€™t enough… My goal was 16 miles. It was supposed to be the longest run of this training cycle and the longest run Iโ€™ve ever done, but I just didnโ€™t have it in me today. But ya know what? Thatโ€™s ok! I like to look at it like this; if you donโ€™t struggle and sometimes fail during a training cycle then youโ€™re not going to be ready to struggle and then over come that struggle on race day. Iโ€™d much rather have a bad workout than a bad race. So Iโ€™m looking at this from that perspective. Iโ€™ve gotten the bad run out of the way, and now hopefully both of my races will go well. And even if they donโ€™t at least Iโ€™ll be ready to handle it. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Always look on the bright side my friends! Or at the very least, learn to find the positive in what might in the moment feel like a negative, because I promise you itโ€™s always there. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’œ

Alrighty all of that being said, I’m pretty sure part of my downfall during this run was yet again, being chased by a little demon dog that I’ve been getting chased by almost every time I run down a certain street for several months now, and yesterday he had a friend. They were smart enough to split up so one was always on a different side of me so I couldn’t really keep my eyes on both of them at once and once of them was starting to get really cocky and was starting to nip at my ankles. Luckily he never got a hold of me and I gave him a good kick and that made him stop. But they both kept following me until a truck drove down the street…

These little assholes are always out terrorizing people. One day I saw one of them chasing a lady with a stroller and her dog. Obviously her dog wasn’t happy about that but I didn’t see what happened because I was going a different direction. Anyway, the next time one of these little bastards chases me I’m gonna give their owner a piece of my damn mind. This is getting absolutely ridiculous. They just let their dogs out in their yard that’s not fenced in, they don’t put them on tie outs, and they don’t stay outside to watch the dogs. So the dogs terrorize anyone who goes by.

Honestly I’m surprised they haven’t been hurt by another dog or hit by a car. And I’d be lying if I didn’t say that there have been a few times that I’ve thought about bringing Finn down there and letting him rough them up a bit. He’s ridiculously protective of me, so he’d definitely want to do something about one of the little demon dogs chasing us. Obviously I haven’t and I probably wont. But damn it would be kind of satisfying to watch them get roughed up a little by a dog that probably weighs almost 35 pounds more than them. But at the end of the day I know it’s not the dogs fault and I shouldn’t take it out on them. All of the blame lies on the owner who lets them do this…But still, I’m not gonna hesitated to give them a good, hard kick to prevent my ankles from getting bit. There’s no way I’m gonna just let them attack me.

Ugh, just thinking about it really pisses me off. How can you think it’s ok to let your dogs act that way?!?!?

Sunday:

  • rest day

Well, if you can call going on a crazy cleaning spree resting haha. Oh man it felt so good to get my house nice and clean though! It’s kinda been a disaster ever since we got all of that rain two weeks ago, but since the mud has finally dried up and the dogs are clean again I though today would be a great day to tackle all of the dirt in my house. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Haha the photo is from this morning when Luke and I were feeding the chickens. I know most of my photos from this week are fall foliage, but it’s all just so pretty!!! ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿƒ

Total Weekly Mileage: 26.85

That’s a little over 3 miles less than I would have liked, but I’m still pretty proud of what I’ve done this week. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

Weekly Recap: October 1st-7th, 2018

Damn it I was really beginning to think that I was going to make it through this training cycle unscathed! You see, I’m what most people would refer to as an “injury prone runner”. I talked more about all of that on Thursday, so I won’t go back into all of it here. But anyway, I managed to hurt my leg somehow earlier this week. I’m thinking it happened during my treadmill run on Wednesday. Luckily a shortened run on Thursday, an unscheduled rest day on Friday, and a little bit of extra TLC seemed to help and I was still able to do my long run on Saturday. So I’m thinking it was nothing too serious, and it was just a little bit of soreness from running awkwardly on the treadmill.

But we’ll get more into all of that! So lets recap the week! ๐Ÿ™‚

Monday:ย 

  • 3 miles
  • 30 minutes of strength work

Does anyone else find it especially satisfying when the first of the month falls on the first day of the week? Because I sure do! I kicked off the month/week with 3 miles that felt a lot more difficult than they actually were. Haha that’s all part of the process though. Followed that up with a Fit Collective Workout. It was another hard but fun strength session. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tuesday:ย 

  • rest day

After Monday’s not so great run and just feeling all around tired, I figured a day off would help. It totally did too! Apparently that was exactly what I needed. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wednesday:

  • 3 miles on the treadmill

Wednesday called for threshold work, so I decided to do that on the treadmill. I’m really bad at holding a consistent pace and the treadmill is kind of a good tool for learning how to do that. Well, or at least forcing yourself to do it haha. Anyway, I warmed up for a mile, ran at threshold pace for about a mile and a half, and then cooled down for the last half mile. I felt like I totally crushed this workout! It was great!

But I also think that’s what caused me to hurt myself. I actually felt fine afterwards, but on Thursday my right knee and shin weren’t feeling so great…

Thursday:

  • 2.5 miles
  • 20 minutes of yoga
  • a little bit of foam rolling in the evening

So like I said, on Thursday my right knee and shin weren’t feeling so great. At first I though maybe it was just a little bit of soreness or something, so I set out to do my scheduled 5 miler anyway. My leg situation wasn’t really improving as I ran though. If anything it started getting worse. Initially I was just going to suck it up and finish my run. I have a ridiculously high pain tolerance so I totally could have done it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But the more I thought about it the more I realized that was probably a bad idea. I’ve done things like that before and I’ve ended up making injuries worse. So I did the smart thing and stopped. That was kinda hard though, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel kinda guilty doing it.

It was definitely the right move though. I spent the rest of the day off of my feet, wore compression socks, and did some yoga and foam rolling.

Friday:

  • rest day

  • random foam rolling

Ok so Friday was an interesting day. First off, I took the day off from running to let my leg rest a little bit more. I stretched, did some random foam rolling during the day, and wore my compression sleeves. My leg was feeling better, but I didn’t want to push it by running on it.

Anyway, on Friday we went on a “Luke Adventure”. Luke Adventure are always random, always very out of the blue, usually ridiculous or unnecessary, but always fun. A Luke Adventure could be anything from randomly going to St. Louis to visit family, a trip to the pumpkin farm, a trip to the mall, an adventure to the Grand Canyon, or getting something slightly impractical like chickens or a new puppy.

So he called my on his way home from work and to make sure I wasn’t baby sitting or particularly busy and to get ready because we were going on an Luke Adventure today. And of course he wouldn’t tell me what we were doing. A lot of the time he doesn’t haha. That’s how our hour and a half journey to our Luke Adventure began. I wont tell you what we did yet though. Saturday:

  • 14 miles

New distance PR who dis? ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Good news! My whole leg situation was a lot better on Saturday!! So I was able to do my scheduled long run. Yay! Got it done, felt pretty darn good doing it, and ran farther than I’ve ever gone before! Win win win win situation! I’m getting very excited about my upcoming half’s! Not sure how either of them are going to go, but hopefully they’ll be a lot of fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday:

  • rest day

I feel like I’m doing something right this time around. I’m tired today, and my legs are a little bit sore, but not so much that I can’t walk properly or that I feel like I’m too tired to function. So I mean, I feel like that’s a good thing after hitting a distance PR yesterday!

That being said, I feel like I might be coming down with a cold or something. That kinda sucks, but it’s not unexpected. My immune system is already kinda shitty and I’m sure that half marathon training doesn’t help. But anyway, spent the day playing around with the results of our Luke Adventure yesterday and walking the dogs. It’s been raining like crazy which I like, but it’s crazy muddy so the dogs are a mess and now my house is a mess and it’s a whole thing… But still, I do enjoy the rainy weather. ๐Ÿ™‚

Total Weekly Mileage: 22.5

Not bad considering I had to cut one run short and took a few unexpected rest days. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m still kinda riding the high from my 14 miler yesterday. It’s been a while since I’ve PR’d anything, so it was pretty exciting to finally get one. Looking forward to see what I can do next week!

I hope the first week of October has treated everyone well!

Weekly Recap: September 24th-30th, 2018

This week was a little bit weird haha. We had plans and then those plans changed so my running plans changed. Then I spent several days being crazy sore from a strength workout I did on Monday. It was a whole thing haha. It was still a good week though. ๐Ÿ™‚

Monday:ย 

  • 6 miles
  • 35 minute strength workout

Whew! Monday was kinda hard, but oh boy was it good!! Started off the week with 6 fantastical miles! It was probably the best run I’ve had since spring. Which is crazy, but I’ve spent the whole summer just slugging along and trying to survive. But now that the weather has been getting better running is a lot more enjoyable! ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, the plan for Monday was a actually 5 miles, but I ended up doing 6 because I’m an overachiever. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰

After my run I did workout #1 from this week’s plan from The Fit Collective. So, this workout had 8 moves and for the first set you did 10 reps of each move, then for the second set you did 9 sets, then 8, and so on and so forth until you got down to 1 rep of each move. I’ve never done a workout like that before and I thought it was a lot of fun! And hard too haha. By the time I was done and was exhausted! But in a good way. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tuesday:

  • rest day

Tuesday ended up being an impromptu rest day, for a few good reasons. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So Luke and his dad play Call Of Duty online together almost every night and they talk over their headsets. Luke’s dad mentioned that he was off of work on Friday and planned on taking his boat out and going fishing, so Luke decided that we were going to drive to Illinois on Thursday so that he could go with him. So I decided to switch around my running scheduled a little bit, just to ensure that my long run for this week gets done. I thought about doing it on Thursday, but then I figured Wednesday was probably a safer bet, so that’s what I decided to do.

That’s how Tuesday became a rest day, but honestly I’m kinda glad that I decided to take the day off. My hips and quads were crazy sore after my workout on Monday! In a good way, but still, trying to run on my legs as they were probably wouldn’t have been very pleasant.

Wednesday:

  • 20 minutes of yoga

I obviously didn’t end up doing my long run on Wednesday. My legs were still super crazy sore. It’s been pretty bad, really. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But luckily (kinda) we’ve had another change of plans. Luke’s dad is going to be busy of Friday and isn’t planning on going fishing anymore. So not so lucky for Luke, but it is kinda good for my sore legs! Now they have a few more days to recover for my long run. ๐Ÿ™‚ I spent Tuesday and Wednesday night rolling and using my self massage tools to help my legs out as well. I’m in love with my little rollga activator! That thing is awesome!

Thursday:

  • 3 miles
  • Halloween decorating!

So the only downside to the weather being super nice is that I tend to get a little bit excited and then end up going a little bit too hard haha. My plan for Thursday was to do 3 easy miles, but that obviously didn’t happen. I had a lot of fun though. ๐Ÿ™‚

Earlier this week my mother-in-law mailed me some Halloween decorations and they got here on Thursday! So I spent most of the afternoon decorating. Fun times! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ˜„

Friday:

  • Rest Day

Kinda haha. Luke and I were very busy on Friday. We went to Sam’s Club. Hobby Lobby. On The Border for Lunch. Walmart. Barnes and Noble. Tractor Supply. And Aldi for groceries. We put up more Halloween decorations. Started prepping the chickens for the colder weather. Busy busy busy.

So we went to Hobby Lobby for more fun fall stuff. And we did find some, but they had a piss ton more Christmas stuff than Halloween/Thanksgiving/fall stuff. It was kinda disappointing. But oh well. We ended up with a couple of really nice candles and new art thing for the kitchen, bandannas for the dogs, among other fun Halloween things. As for the chickens, we put up another tarp on the side of the coop to help keep the wind from blowing in and it should help hold a little bit of heat in. Winchester helped. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Saturday:

  • 13 miles

Wow, this run…A lot of stuff happened during this run haha. This was the longest run I’ve done in a while and for the most part it went really well! ๐Ÿ™‚

The first two miles were a little bit rough. Not gonna lie, that made me a little bit nervous, but around mile 3 I started feeling better and by mile 5 I started having a lot of fun. The last 2-3 miles were pretty tough, but not unmanageable. That’s probably the best part about long runs. A lot can happen and a lot can change. And a lot of times it changes for the better. ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, my town’s fall festival was on Saturday, so there were a piss ton of people out and about. First people were heading to the parade rout and then after that they were making their way to the park for the rest of the fall festivities, so during the parade I made my way to the town cemetery and the outer part of my town so that I could avoid a lot of the commotion haha. That ended up working out pretty well for me. For the most part I missed the migration from the parade route to the park.

At some point during this run the mail came and so did my Gobbler Grind in training tank top. So of course I had to change into it haha. I like to stop at my house every 2-3 miles to get a drink, eat a little something, and pee if I have to. So during one of those little breaks I got the mail and ended up changing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The weather was pretty spectacular during my long run! It started out in the high 40’s but it felt colder than that and it was cloudy for pretty much the whole thing. It was great!

Ummm I guess that pretty much everything from this run haha. I feel like I might be missing a few things, but at the very least that covers most of it.

Sunday:

  • Rest Day

Alrighty! So Saturday was the longest run I’ve ever done in a half marathon training cycle. I’m hoping to keep that trend going for the next couple of weeks though. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Since I’ve done this several times now I figure it well past time for me to start increasing my long runs. Yesterday’s went really well and surprisingly I feel pretty good today! I’m feeling slightly dehydrated, but nothing too crazy and a little bit achy, but I’ve felt a lot more sore after shorter long runs. So that’s been a pleasant surprise! I also feel like it confirms the fact that I should definitely be increasing my long runs. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Total Weekly Mileage: 22.11

I was aiming for a little bit more than that, but still not bad considering I was so sore I could hardly walk and my plans got switched around a few times haha. All in all it was a good week though. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hair, Running, and The Fit Collective

Hey guys, no weekly recap from last week. Sorry about that… I’ve gotten kinda lazy about keeping up with my weekly recaps throughout the week, and it’s really hard to remember everything that happened and try to recap it all on Sunday. So I didn’t. I swear I’m gonna do better with it this week though. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Besides, last week really wasn’t all that exciting anyway. But these next few upcoming weeks should be! I’m pretty excited and slightly terrified. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Anyway, as usual Sunday (yesterday) was my rest day. I spent a good majority of it (like, 6 hours I think?) bleaching and re-dyeing part of my hair (and scalp ๐Ÿ˜‚) purple. So if you ever look at my photos and think “Ashley your hair kinda looks like shit and you need to fix it”, just know that I’m very aware, it just takes sooooo long to do that I always end up putting it off. Plus that section of my hair is super duper damaged. I’ve been dyeing it since I was 17, so honestly I’m kinda surprised it hasn’t just fallen out yet. But hey, at least it looks cool, right?!

Yeah so that’s what I spend my Sunday doing. Today was a little bit more productive. Well, running-wise at least. Got 6 miles in and I felt pretty fantastic! I’m very much enjoying the weather right now! It’s definitely been cooling off and feeling more like fall. I love it! Some of the trees are even starting to change colors! ๐Ÿ™‚ Haha it’s really hard to see in the photo below, but the trees in the woods off in the distance are starting to turn yellow and brown. I love it!

The plan for today’s run was actually 5 miles but I ended up doing 6 because I’m an over achiever. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Actually, because I wasn’t paying attention and it just kinda happened haha. But those are the best kinds of runs, right? Honestly I think this might have been my best run since this spring. I’ve been slogging along just trying to survive the summer but now that the weather is getting better running is starting to get a lot more enjoyable. ๐Ÿ™‚ Now if only I could start feeling faster. Then I’d feel a little better about my upcoming half marathons. I’m currently still worried about them. But I’ve still got 47 and 48 days to go, so I’ve still got some time to make some improvements! ๐Ÿ™‚

After my run I ate a quick snack and then got some strength training done with The Fit Collective! The fit collective is an online training program and it’s pretty neat! You get 3 new 30 minute at home strength workouts every week, access to personal trainers via email and their Facebook page, along with live Facebook Q&A sessions every month. They also have monthly goals and challenges along with a whole page on their website full of healthy recipes. Fun stuff!! The online membership is $20 a month, but if you hang tight for a few days I’ll have a code for new members to get 50% off of your first month. So it would be $10 instead of $20. ๐Ÿ™‚

So my workout for today was something that I’ve never done before and it was a lot of fun! Freaking hard, but fun! So the workout consisted of 8 moves. For the first set the goal was to do 10 reps of each move, then for the second set do 9 reps of each move, for the third 8 reps, and so on and so forth until you get to 1 rep for each move. So like I said, it was different and I really enjoyed it. Plus it totally kicked my butt too! It took me about 35 minutes to complete the workout and by the time I was done I was completely beat! It was really good though. I’m pretty stoked to continue on with this program and see what other fun workout they have in store!

Having fun is super important to me when it comes it working out. I get bored really easily and I find it hard to really stay consistent with anything that’s not running. That’s actually one of the reasons I started running! I was bored with my workout regimen and decided to give running a try. So far it’s the only thing that stuck, but I think The Fit Collective is really going to help in that regard! I don’t think I’m going to get bored getting 3 new workouts every week! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, that all I’ve got for today I suppose.
