Weekly Recap: May 22nd-28th, 2017

As you may know, last weekend I went to Illinois to help my mom and dad start cleaning out their house so that they can sell it. I ended up staying longer than I had planned, so this week ended up being all over the place, but we got a lot done and I definitely got some great cross training in in the form of hard, manual labor. And honestly, I think that’s the most fun kind of “cross training” there is! πŸ˜‰

Monday:

  • 3.05 miles

This run happened kind of spontaneously in the middle of the afternoon. My dad was napping while my brother went to pick up a part they had order for the truck they were working on. I didn’t really have anything to do at that point, so I figured hey, why not go for a run! Yeah, trying to run during the hottest part of the day, with basically no shade was not one of my better ideas. My mom had to bring me a Gatorade about half way through, but I actually ended up going farther than I thought I did. That was a nice surprise!

Also did a little bit of work around the house/yard on Monday. I mostly just picked up and burned a bunch of trash.

Tuesday:Β

Did a lot more work around my mom and dad’s house. Yet again I mostly just burned trash, but a lot of the stuff on Tuesday was heavy and I also did a lot of running up and down stairs so I totally got a workout it haha! In the evening my mom and dad went to dinner with my dads boss, so instead of working I ended up taking a long walk down the back country roads. Once I got bored with that I did a little bit of trespassing on what was my grandma’s farm. Obviously I shouldn’t have been doing that, but it was soooo weird to be right there and see the land, but to not be able to go on it. I just couldn’t help myself haha.

Wednesday:Β

More work around the house. I pulled/lifted/carried A LOT of heavy stuff while working. Wednesday was also the day I finally went back home. My brother and I helped my dad with cleaning out a trailer that they were going to haul to Colorado, and then my brother drove me home.

Thursday:

  • 2 miles

Just got out there for an easy 2 miles on Thursday. I was super sore, tired, and slightly dehydrated from working all day outside in the sun and heat and probably not drinking enough while at my parents house. Still felt pretty good, all things considered though. πŸ™‚

Also made it home just in time for all of my lilies to be in bloom! Unfortunately they don’t really last long, so I’m glad I was able to enjoy them.

Friday:

  • Rest Day

My mom, dad, and brother all stopped at my house on they’re way to Colorado on Friday. Since they had their dog with them I had to put all of mine in a separate room (they don’t get along). While doing that I ran into a framed poster that was hanging in our hallway and it fell on my foot. It bruised/swelled almost immediately, so I wasn’t able to run on Friday or do much of anything after that…Being a klutz really sucks.

Saturday:

  • Rest Day

Spent most of Saturday sitting and icing my foot. Luckily it was starting to feel better, but walking on it too much was still making it hurt a little bit. So I kept that to a minimum and binge watched Avatar The Last Air Bender all day haha.

Sunday:

  • Rest Day

My foot is still about the same as it was yesterday, so I’m still resting it. Haha I’m just glad it got hurt now and not in the middle of half marathon training, like it did last year. But anyway, I’m thinking in the next few days it will probably be ok to do a short, easy run on. πŸ™‚

Weekly Recap: May 15th-21st, 2017

Monday:

  • Active Rest

I was still kinda getting over my cold on Monday, so I was still taking it a little bit easy. I did, however, start a step challenge on Garmin Connect with my sisters, our dad, and my sisters boyfriend, so that kept me motivated to stay moving. At the very least I hit my step goal and that’s something I don’t typically do on my rest days. πŸ™‚ Oh and I also spent some time weeding in my garden. That totally counts for something!

Tuesday:

  • 2 miles

Everything about Tuesday’s run felt hard. But the first few “getting back into it” runs always are, so I wasn’t too worried about it. I was just glad that I finally felt well enough to get a decent run in and not feel like absolute death while I did it. Then after my run I spent an hour weeding in the garden. I have a feeling that most of my summer is going to be consumed by weeding haha.

Wednesday:

  • 5 miles

On Wednesday I battled heat, humidity, and a wind advisory that turned into a tornado watch, but I got a solid 5 miler in! Well, it was a bit slower than most of my runs have been in the previous few weeks, but considering I was just sick and I was fighting against the elements, it felt like a solid workout. Haha I actually went out without a plan, so I kinda surprised myself by covering 5 miles. I also did a bunch of walking and more weeding on Wednesday and I pulled ahead of everyone else in our step challenge. Go me!

Also this is super unrelated, but my lilies are starting to bloom and they’re super pretty. πŸ™‚

Thursday:

  • 45 minutes of yoga

I ended up feeling really sore and tight after my huge leap back into running and walking and working in the garden earlier this week. So Thursday ended up being an impromptu rest day that involved a nice little nap followed by 45 minutes of yoga in the afternoon. Ah that was nice and very much needed.

Friday:

  • 3 miles

Oh man, thanks to the thunderstorms that rolled in the night before, the humidity was at 95% when I ran on Friday. That made this easy run feel a lot harder than it normally would. Especially for me; the asthmatic runner. I got through it though! I like to think it was because of my tasty pre-run snack. I mean, how can I be in a bad mood after having my favorite flavor of Honey Stinger waffle? πŸ™‚

Speaking of Honey Stinger; the 10 Reasons Why I Love Honey Stinger post has been crazy popular (in terms of views, that is) ever since I wrote it. So that’s been pretty neat. πŸ™‚

Saturday:

  • Rest Day

I shoulda run on Saturday. I totally had time…haha oh well.

My mom and dad showed up at my house around 7 am, then they both slept until 1:30 pm. Then we hit the road and my dad drove  the 5 hours to Illinois. So in those hours they were asleep I coulda run, but oh well.

Sunday:

So yeah, I didn’t run today, but I sure got my calorie burn on! I spent the day helping my mom, dad, and brother clean out the house so that they can sell it. I was in charge of burning things, and burn things I did! As you can see, I’m ready for a shower! And dinner and bedtime wouldn’t be so bad either. πŸ˜‰

Sunday Stuff

Alrighty guys, I don’t have a weekly recap for you today. Since I was sick pretty much all of this week I didn’t do much running or working out or anything, so it would have just been super boring haha. But I do have a new video up on Vidme today. I showed off my garden a little bit, so if you’re at all interested in that you should go check it out! πŸ™‚

https://vid.me/bHEj

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today, so happy Sunday and happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there. You guys rock!

Weekly Recap: May 1st-7th, 2017

Monday:

  • Easy 3.5 miles
  • 25 minutes of blogilates

It was a cold and chilly day! Yay!! I kinda wanted to go for 4 miles on Monday, but I was feeling tired and was back at my house at 3.5 so I called it good. But I mean, close enough, right? πŸ˜‰

img_3317

Tuesday:

  • 10 minutes of blogilates

Tuesday was a cross train day! Haha I just barely did enough to qualify as a cross train day though. 10 short minutes of blogilates. But in all fairness, on her May workout calendar she had 2 lower body days in a row and that just wasn’t working for me haha. I probably should have spend some time on my stationary bike, but whatever.

Wednesday:

  • Rest Day

So, on Wednesday I decided that I was going to give up caffeine so I skipped my morning cup of coffee. Bad idea. I ended up feeling exhausted and shitty all day…

Thursday:

  • 3 mile run
  • 15 minutes of blogilates
  • 25 minutes on the stationary bike

I was feeling a little bit tired on Thursday, but I still got in a pretty solid workout! Now I’m realizing that I was probably starting to get sick that day, but oh well. I don’t think skipping my workout yesterday would have stopped that from happening. Luke’s sick, a bunch of people at his work are sick, it was only a matter of time before I ended up sick as well.

img_3310

Friday:

  • Rest Day

Yeah whatever illness that’s been going around finally caught up with me. I woke up with a sore throat and just feeling kinda bleh in general. I thought about running, but eventually decided that resting was probably a better idea. I ended up feeling kinda achy and started getting the chills later in the day, so taking a breaks was probably the right decision.

Saturday:

  • Rest Day

Very glad I didn’t run on Friday. I woke up feeling absolutely horrible on Saturday. So I just continued to rest on Saturday. I tried to stay hydrated and watched Nike’s breaking 2 on YouTube, because I missed the live stream from the night before. That was some incredible stuff! If I didn’t feel so gross I would have been super inspired to run Haha.

Sunday:

Oh man you guys, I don’t think I could have run today even if I wanted to. This cold is absolutely kicking my ass. I’ve been trying to stay hydrated, but it’s hard to do because I really don’t feel like drinking anything. That’s not helping the chest congestion I woke up with this morning. Ugh, it’s quite terrible and makes breathing harder. I can’t wait to get over this.

Weekly Recap: April 24th-30th, 2017

Monday:

  • 30 minutes of yoga

My legs were feeling super tired on Monday. Luckily Monday is my rest day! Not so luckily we went to see Monday Night Raw so I was cramped into a small space for around 5 hours and they definitely didn’t help the tight leg situation. Haha oh well, it was still a fun night. πŸ™‚

img_3116

Tuesday:Β

  • Easy 30 minute run
  • 25 minutes of yoga
  • 30 minutes on the stationary bike

So I actually had an interval workout scheduled for Tuesday, but after our late night on Monday, and waking up a little late and getting out the door around 9 am, I had to call it quits on that and just take things easy. I was getting really hot and my stomach was starting to cramp and trying to run hard just wasn’t helping. Ah well, I still got a few miles in, and then stretched my legs, and even spent some time on my stationary bike in the evening. πŸ™‚

img_3133

Wednesday:Β

  • Easy 2 mile run
  • 10 minutes of yoga
  • Threshold run

According to my training scheduled, I wasn’t supposed to run on Wednesday. I was actually supposed to cross train. But it was chilly and cloudy and a little bit wet outside, so I justΒ had to run a couple of slow miles! I probably would have gone farther if I didn’t know that I had a threshold run scheduled for Thursday, but I was very much aware of that, so I stopped at 2 miles.

After my run I did a little bit of yoga, so at the very least I technically did a tiny bit of cross training. πŸ˜‰

Plot twist; after writing out the above, I ended up doing my threshold run on Wednesday, and PRing my mile time. Good times. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Thursday:

  • Rest Day

I probably should have spent some time on my stationary bike or doing yoga on Thursday or Friday. But on Wednesday I had a series of unfortunate things happen that made my asthma act up. So I spent a lot of Thursday hacking up phlegm and didn’t feel like doing much else…

Friday:Β

  • Rest Day

Same as Thursday. At least Friday was a scheduled rest day.

Saturday:

  • Rainy 3 mile run

Still coughing and hacking. Running in the rain probably didn’t help that situation, but I just couldn’t pass it up! Running in the rain is just too much fun! πŸ™‚

img_3212

Sunday:

  • Rest Day

I feel like I’ve been skipping out on my long runs a lot lately. But when I woke up with my alarm at 6 am today, I was still completely exhausted and not feeling too well. So I turned off my alarm, went back to sleep, and didn’t wake up until 9 am, which is pretty late for me! I guess I really needed some extra sleep! Plus all of the rain we’ve had in the past two days (and my running in it yesterday), along with the drastic drop in temperature would probably explain why I don’t feel so great today. Hoping this doesn’t turn into a full blow cold or anything, but I really do feel like skipping my long run today was a good idea.

Weekly Recap: April 17th-23rd, 2017

Monday:

  • rest day

Good thing too! Finn got a little sick and woke me up at 4 am by crying then having a diarrhea in his crate. So we were awake and dealing with that all morning. Fun times. Luckily it was my rest day and I didn’t really have much planned for Monday anyway. I did watch the Boston Marathon on TV. That was a lot of fun! There are so many amazing stories and athletes out there, it makes me super glad that I get to be a part of the awesome running community!

Watching it also kinda made me want to run a marathon! Haha ever since my first half I knew a full was going to be in my future, but I always thought that future was going to be very distant. Now I’m not so sure about that. I mean, the Garmin marathon looks like fun and it’s pretty close to my house. Maybe that’s something I should aim for in the next year or two. πŸ˜‰

img_2952

Tuesday:Β

  • 30 easy minutes
  • 15 minutes of yoga

Woke up a little later than I had intended to on Tuesday, so it was kinda warm and super humid during my run but it actually ended up being a lot of fun. I may or may not have spent the whole 30 minutes alternating between listening to she’s out of her mind by Blink-182 and Cowboy by Kid Rock. Haha yeah, I have no idea what that was about but it was totally working for me! Kinda weird, but hey, I’ll take it!

I also re-re-re-re started writing a training journal haha. I’ve tried keeping a training journal several times over my relatively short running career and I always start out super excited about keeping track of my workouts and thoughts, but then I always end up slowly tapering off and then just quittingΒ all together. So I guess we’ll see how that goes, but I really do intend on sticking with it this time.

img_2971

Wednesday:Β

  • “Threshold” run
  • 10 minutes of blogilates

Today’s workout was a 15 minute warm up, 15 minutes of running at “threshold” pace, and 15 minutes to cool down. I tend to run by feel and not pace, so I didn’t aim for any particular pace during the “threshold” portion of this workout. I just focused on going “hard”. Haha I was kinda worried during my warm up, I was a little stiff and sore and tired. So I went ridiculously slow and did a little bit of walking. It took me almost the whole 15 minutes to cover a mile, but I felt better afterwards. I think that ended up making the “hard” portion of this run go a little better. It wasn’t exactly fun because it was warm and humid, but I got it done and I totally crushed it! I even covered a mile in 11:44 which is kinda speedy for me, especially on a warm, sunny day! Then the 15 minute cool down was slightly miserable at first, but after a few minutes it wasn’t too bad. πŸ™‚

Thursday:

  • Rest Day

It was more of an active rest day though. πŸ™‚ During the day I walked all 3 of the dogs and later in the evening Luke and I walked Finn and Lily. So I got a good amount of walking done on Thursday.

img_3036

Friday:

  • 30 minutes of yoga

I kind of hate when I have two days off from running in a row, but I also kinda love it haha. It almost drives me crazy, but at the same time my runs the next day always end up going super well. πŸ™‚

Saturday:

  • Intervals (3.27 miles)
  • 5 minutes of yoga

I talk much more in depth about this run here. I don’t feel like typing that all out again, so you can go check out that post of you wanna know all of the details. But yay! I PR’d my 5k time!!! It’s been a while since I’ve PR’d at the 5k distance and I totally wasn’t expecting to do it on Saturday, so that was a nice little surprise. πŸ™‚

Also, I was planning on doing more yoga that just a measly 5 minutes, but the day kinda got away from me…

Processed with Rookie Cam

Sunday:

  • 2.21 miles
  • 10 minutes on the stationary bike

Oh man, I didn’t realize how much Saturday’s workout drained me! I was supposed to do a long run today, but when I woke up I knew that wasn’t going to happen. I was crazy tired and my whole lower body felt pretty achy, so I thought that maybe 4 or 5 easy miles would be a better idea than trying to run any longer than that. Once I started running though, my feet and shins started to hurt and I just felt like shit in general, and it wasn’t getting any better. So I finished a loop around my neighborhood and then called it good.

I took a short nap this afternoon and I felt a little better after that, and I’m going to spend at least 30 minutes on my yoga mat stretching and foam rolling later tonight, so hopefully that helps as well. πŸ™‚

img_3092-1

Total weekly mileage: 11.10

Oh man, that’s kinda really bad. Skipping out on my long run really didn’t help me in that regard. But I can’t even be mad because Saturday’s workout just went so well and I hit some new paces that I’ve never hit before, so that’s just awesome! And I’m really hoping that Saturday was some kind of weird fitness breakthrough and that I’ll end up getting a little bit faster in general now. That would be really nice. πŸ™‚ I probably should have expected that I was going to be kinda tired today though. Haha going that hard during that interval work when I knew I was supposed to run long the next day probably wasn’t the best idea ever, but it just felt so good and I couldn’t help myself. πŸ™‚

Oh and I’ve also been keeping up with my written training journal! I know it’s only been like a week, but I’m usually pretty bad at keeping up with those, so I’m kinda proud of myself for sticking with it so far.

How did your week go?Β

Did you have any fun workouts or PR’s?

Weekly Recap: April 10th-16th, 2017

Monday:

  • Rest Day

Tuesday:

  • Intervals
  • 30 minutes of yoga

Ugh the run was no fun on Tuesday, but the yoga I did afterwards totally made up for it. πŸ™‚

img_2773

Wednesday:

  • 25 minutes on the stationary bike

Well that’s a little bit sad for a cross training day haha. I probably should have spent a little more time on my stationary bike or at least done some yoga or something. But I didn’t so oh well. πŸ˜‰

Thursday:

  • 1.5 miles
  • 30 minutes of yoga
  • 5 minutes of foam rolling

Thursday’s run was actually supposed to be more around 5 miles, so obviously that didn’t exactly go as planned. I was just feeling dehydrated, and tired, and my legs were super tight, so I cut the run super short and did a bunch of yoga and water drinking instead. πŸ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

Friday:

  • rest day

Well, sort of. Luke and I spent most of Friday running around all over the place. We had to take Finn to the vet, go to the DMV, go grocery shopping, and take all of the dogs to the park. It was a bit chaotic, but it ended up being a pretty fun day. I also got a super spiffy new shirt, so that totally made all of the chaos worth it. πŸ˜‰

img_2890

Saturday:

  • 3.51 miles
  • 1 hour on the stationary bike

So I’m not entirely sure what possessed me to do an hour on the stationary after doing an interval workout in the morning and the night before a long run, but I totally did and it actually ended up working out just fine! I even ended up sleeping pretty well and I woke up feeling great this morning!

img_2904

Sunday:

  • 9 miles
  • 45 minutes of yoga

Happy Easter everyone! 🐣🐰 Started my day out with 9 a super slow, super humid miles. Oh man, it was absolutely torture! But I got it done!! My only goal for my run was to do at least 7 miles, so even though I was miserably slow, I went over my goal and I’m very happy about that. πŸ˜„

Total Weekly Mileage: 17.11

If I would have actually finished that run on Thursday I would have been exactly at the weekly mileage that I had planned on doing every week in order to run 1,000 miles this year. I haven’t exactly given up on that goal yet, but I’m going to have ridiculously hard from this point on if I wanna get anywhere near that goal. Oh well I’m still going to keep trying for now. 😊
