Weekly Recap: June 3rd-9th, 2019

So I’ve been following Blogilates for quite some time now. She was actually one of the first fitness YouTube channels I started watching and following along with back in 2012 when I stared losing weight and getting fit. I never participated in any of the challenges that she has done though. I just kinda used her videos and did my own thing with them.

But I’ve kinda fallen off from doing them, or any kind of strength training really. Which definitely isn’t good! It’s just that running is so much fun and I don’t want to do anything else! πŸ˜‚ But this June she’s putting on a 28 Day Summer Sculpt Challenge and I’ve decided to actually follow along with it! I’m hoping that it will kick my butt into gear and keep me motivated to get some strength work done! We’ll see how that goes. But as of right now, I’m pretty motivated to get it done! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ˜‰

Monday:

  • 3 miles
  • Day 1 of Blogilates 28 Day Summer Sculpt Challenge

3 more miles added to the ol’ leg bank! Nothing fancy. Nothing fun. Just went out there and got it done! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Followed that with day of of the Summer Sculpt Challenge. This one was a full body workout and it was tough! It was really good though! 😊

Also, more of my lilies are blooming and I love it!!

Tuesday:

  • 2 miles on the treadmill
  • Day 2 of Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge

Holy moly I woke up sore on Tuesday! Especially in my triceps. That was definitely a testament to how little strength work I’ve done lately. πŸ˜‚ It was nothing a few easy miles on the treadmill couldn’t work out though, so that was good!

Tuesday are dedicated to legs and butt for this challenge and the video was HARD. But it was also a ton of fun! I really enjoyed this one! πŸ˜„

2 days down, 26 more to go! πŸ˜‚

Wednesday:

  • 3 miles
  • Day 3 of Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge

Was up bright and early on Wednesday morning! I like to get out the door before the sun is up and has heated up the asphalt adding just another layer of misery to to activity that is summer running. πŸ₯΅πŸ€£

Anyway, after my run I finished day 3 of the Summer Sculpt Challenge and then did a bunch of work in my garden. It was a productive day! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜„

  • Thursday:
    • 9 holes of golf

Hahaha so I actually intended for Thursday to be a rest day. I was sore AF and just felt like I wasn’t recovering at all from the Summer Sculpt Challenge. There in lies the problem with working out every single day, I suppose.

But when my husband got home from work and he wanted to play a quick 9 holes of golf. I was feeling better by that afternoon, so I figured why not! πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Plus after moving around a little bit on the golf course I started to feel a little bit better. πŸ˜„

    Friday:

    • 17 holes of golf

On Friday Luke got me my own set of golf clubs! Yay!!

Hahaha before I was just using his and they were not working for me. Men’s clubs are a little bit longer and heavier than women’s clubs so I wasn’t able to actually swing properly with his. Hence why he got me my own! πŸŒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

So obviously we had to go golfing on Friday. πŸ˜‚ This time we had a group of 4 that included me, Luke, his brother from Minnesota who is currently staying with us, and his other brother who lives here in Kansas. So having 4 people slowed us down considerably! We were out on the course for what felt like FOREVER! It was fun at first, but it was hot, humid, and exhausting. Which is why we ended up skipping that last hole. 🀣🀣

I did play a lot better with my new clubs though, so there’s that! Honestly though all this golfing is probably going to have to slow down for me soon though! Training for Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two starts soon and I want to actually be able to do that. Golfing in the heat just took waaaay too much out of me.

Lol yeah, I sure look like I should be lined up at the starting line of a half marathon, not on a golf course. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

    Saturday:

    • 3.5 miles
    • Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge

A failed attempt at a long run… Obviously I wasn’t happy about that. But for real, I was crazy tired and drained from being out in the heat and humidity for so long the day before. It wasn’t good….

So after my run I made sure I spent the day rehydrating, and apparently my body really needed refueled because I was STARVING all day. So I just kinda rolled with it and tried to give my body what it needed. Luckily the Summer Sculpt Challenge video was just stretching on Saturday. I sure needed that too. But apparently mostly I just needed to sleep!

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

After my failed long run yesterday I seriously considered trying to get some more miles in today. I had my gear all laid out and an alarm set, but when it came time to actually wake up I turned off my alarm and went right back to sleep. I ended up sleeping for about 9 and 1/2 hours and honestly it was great! I felt sooo much better after that!

I actually kinda wanted to run this afternoon, but I figured if I wanted to run today but didn’t, I’d probably feel even better and want to run even more tomorrow. Hahaha but I guess we’ll have to wait and see about that though. I did spend a good amount of time walking dogs today though. πŸ˜„

    Total Weekly Mileage: 11.51

Yeah, obviously this week didn’t go as planned. πŸ˜‚ But it wasn’t bad either! Honestly if I would have gotten my long run in I’d be a lot happier, but I am working on becoming a stronger athlete and learning a new sport, so I’ll take it!! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸŒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

    Happy Sunday!

    Weekly Recap: May 26th – June 2nd, 2019

Wow with all of the shenanigans going on over the past few months I’ve kinda fallen off of the blogging bandwagon. I’m back on it though (I think πŸ˜‰) and hopefully it’ll stay that way!

So, this week was a weird one as far as training goes. Luke and I went to Minnesota over Memorial Day weekend for one of his brother’s high school graduation and between lots and lots of family time and not having anywhere safe to run, well, I didn’t. πŸ˜† So getting back into the swing of things, especially in the middle of the week, was super hard. But, I like to think I made it work. πŸ˜‰

    Monday:

    • 18 holes of golf
    • Badminton and volleyball with Luke and his siblings

While I may not have run while we were in Minnesota that doesn’t mean I was sitting around idle! On Monday Luke, his brother, and I played our final game of golf in Minnesota. And this time we actually kept score! I won!!! πŸŒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ But only because Luke was giving me a few handicaps. πŸ˜‚ I’m not very good at golf. Plus I was playing with Luke’s men’s clubs (because that’s all we have) and that makes things a little more difficult.

After our golf game we headed back to Luke’s mom’s house for a little Memorial Day party. We ended up playing a terrible game of badminton (mostly because me and one of Luke’s sisters were terrible at it πŸ˜‚) and then a game of volley ball where I was probably the best player! Go me! πŸ’ͺ🏻 Hahahaha and at one point Luke’s oldest sister decided that if anyone hit the ball out of bounds that they had to do a burpee. So everyone ended up having to do a few of those. It was terrible and fun all at the same time! 😁

    Tuesday:

    • Rest day

On Tuesday we left Minnesota and spent 12 hours in the truck during our drive back to Kansas. We had an extra passenger with us because we ended up bringing Luke’s brother back to Kansas! He’s gonna hang out here until the middle of July because this is his last summer vacation before college. πŸ˜„

Anyway, the ride was long. We drove through some crazy thunderstorms, but we made it home alright.

    Wednesday:

    • 2 miles
    • 9 holes of golf

Wednesday Luke decided that he needed to go golfing again. πŸ˜‰ Really he just wanted to take his brother to one of the golf courses here. So I ran 2 easy miles and then went with them and played 9 holes of golf.

I wasn’t doing so hot that day though. Mostly because I was pretty tired, I think. So I stopped at 9. Luke and his brother payed for another 9 but they only ended up playing 4 holes because the members of this particular golf course showed up and were doing something. They didn’t feel like playing through all of that so we left.

    Thursday:

    • 3 miles
    • Yard work
    • 30 minutes of Yoga

    Busy busy day!

Luke went back to work on Thursday and I had A BUNCH of stuff I needed to get done in the yard/garden since we were gone for 5 days. But of course I ran first. πŸ˜‰ I did 3 easy miles. Nothing fancy. Just working on getting back into the swing of things after not running for 5 days.

After that I spent several hours weed whacking, cleaning the chicken coop, and the doing a little bit of weeding in our landscaping and garden. Hahaha it doesn’t sound like much when you write it down, but it was a pretty tiresome day!

That evening I did done much need yoga and foam rolling. After two 12 hour car rides and all the work I did on Thursday I really needed that!

Ps, my lilies are starting to bloom. 😊

    Friday:

    • 2 miles

Note to self; don’t listen to a pump up playlist on a recovery day. πŸ˜‚

Somehow I was still able to keep it easy though. I know this because I was like, hardcore rocking out. Then some dude sitting in his truck on the side of the road saw me and was laughing. He gave me thumbs up though, so it’s all good. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜‚

    Saturday:

    • 9 miles
    • 25 minutes of Pilates
    • 2 speedy miles on the treadmill
    • 30 minutes on the stationary bike

My new motto is “keep the hard days HARD”. So that’s what I did on Saturday! πŸ‘πŸ»β˜ οΈπŸ€˜πŸ»

I started my day with a nice 9 miler. It was hot, humid, and hazy out, so it was pretty slow going. Still pretty hard though. Running in 88% humidity is no joke!

That afternoon I tackled a nice 25 minutes of full body Pilates. Then that night I was bored and decided that a nice little speed session sounded like a lot of fun, so I hopped on my treadmill for 2 speedy miles. Then I followed that with some time on the stationary bike. Mostly to loosen up the ol legs.

Keep the hard days hard. Mission accomplished. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

    Sunday:

    • rest day

Well, kinda. In the morning I had to do some work in the garden, but after that the rest of my day was easy peasy. Thank goodness for that! Hahaha I was TIRED after all of my shenanigans yesterday. And probably from traveling an whatnot earlier in the week. I definitely needed a day off from everything! 😴

    Total Weekly Mileage: 18.13

I will gladly take it! Especially after several weeks of hardly logging any real mileage and after not even being in the same state earlier this week! Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but I still got some real work in and I’m quite happy about that. πŸ˜„

Now, all of the crazy traveling shenanigans are over for a while, so the plan is to buckle down in June and put in some real work! I’m doing Blogilates’ 28 day Summer Sculpt challenge this month (it starts on Monday!) because I’m basically shit at getting any kind of strength work in, so I figured this would be a good/fun way to do it! June is going to be hard, but I know it’ll be with it this fall! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Alrighty! That just about covers it!

    Happy Sunday!!

    ~Ashley

    Weekly Recap: May 13th-19th, 2019

My first weekly recap in… I don’t even remember. Several weeks? Hahaha I’ve had an interesting/not very exciting couple of weeks.

This week definitely wasn’t what I wanted, running-wise, but it was still a really good week! I got a bunch of stuff not running related done and ended up having quite a bit of fun! πŸ˜„

    Monday:

    • 3 miles
    • 15 minutes Pilates
    • 25 minutes yoga

Partly cloudy days like on Monday are some of my favorites! Those big puffy clouds just make the sky so pretty! 🌀😊

Anyway, I got some shit DONE on Monday! My run wasn’t super great, but after being sick most of last week and hardly running, it felt good to get out there! Followed by a little bit of Pilates and then some yoga later that evening. 😁

    Tuesday:

    • 2 miles
    • 20 minutes stretching/foam rolling

Just 2 easy miles for Tuesday. I’m just trying to get back into the swing of things after being sick. But, I’m willing to put in the work to get there. It’s probably not gonna be fun though. πŸ˜‚

    Wednesday:

    • 3.5 miles

It was hot, humid, and gross out on Wednesday… I ended up cutting my run a little short because I just wasn’t feeling it. It’s getting to be that time of year though. Running becomes a lot less fun for me once the weather gets warmer.

    Thursday:

    • 4 miles
    • Yard work
    • 15 minutes of stretching

Whew! Thursday was a day! I woke up earlier (which is going to have to start happening more and more now that it’s starting to warm up) got in a slow 4 mile run, then spent around 3 hours in my yard weed eating, trimming bushes, cleaning up the fence lines, weeding the landscaping and garden, and then finally cleaning out a few animal cages. It was a lot of work and I was exhausted! πŸ˜‚ I like to think it was a good strength training session though! πŸ˜‰

    Friday:

    • 18 holes of golf

Recently Luke has decided to take up golfing. Originally his brother was going with him, but it’s hard for his brother to find someone to watch his kids and Luke was starting to feel bad that I had to watch them all of the time (especially since I’m ALWAYS babysitting my next door neighbor’s kid), so the last two times Luke has gone golfing I’ve gone with him! And surprisingly enough, I’m not as terrible as I thought I’d be! πŸ˜‚

This time definitely went better than the first though. But I am definitely starting to get the hang of some things! πŸŒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ Golf is hard though. There’s a lot going on with it, but it’s definitely fun trying to learn a new sport!

    Saturday:

    • 4 miles
    • Bowling

Hahaha oh man, I had 3 days in a row that were kinda packed with all sorts of stuff!

So on Saturday Luke’s dad, step mom, and youngest brother came to Kansas from Illinois just for a fun little trip. I actually ended up cutting my run 4 miles short because I had no idea what they’re plans were and if they were going to show up at our house at any point, so I had a bunch of cleaning I had to get done.

They actually never came to our house though, so really I could have finished 8 miles. Oh well, sometimes you just gotta roll with whatever could potentially be happening in your life. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ At least I got yo go out and run. 😊

Then that evening we all went out to eat at a barbecue restaurant (not my favorite, but it was pretty good!) and then we went bowling! Luke’s youngest brother had never bowled before, but he ended up having a ton of fun and didn’t want to leave. πŸ˜‚ It was a really good time though. About our 4th game Luke and I were bowling better than we ever have before! I ended up with 122 points, which is a lot for me.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ After that though everyone but Luke’s brother was getting tired. We played another game that didn’t go as well and then Luke’s brother played 5 frames for all of us (I really don’t know how he managed that! It was impressive!) and then we finally left. Luke and I went home, and his dad, brother, and step mom went back to their hotel.

    Sunday:

    • More golf!

Hahaha I didn’t do a full 18 holes this time. Truth be told, I’m TIRED! But I did end up playing 11 or 12 holes. Luke finished 18 and I was his official ball spotter (I have better eyes than he does so I find them faster πŸ˜‰) and club holder. It was a good time. 😊

So this week wasn’t exactly what I wanted as far as running goes, but I still ended up doing quite a bit!! πŸ˜„

Now next week is going to be an interesting one as well. On a Thursday or Friday (we still haven’t decided yet) Luke and I are going to be headed to Minnesota to visit his mom and to celebrate one of his brothers graduating high school! I’m sure that will be lots of fun! But I’m not entirely sure how much running I’ll be able to get done. We shall see.πŸ˜‰

Anyway, happy Sunday! I hope you had a great week!

    ~Ashley

    Weekly Recap: April 22nd-28th, 2019

Oh wow! The last two weeks were kinda crazy and just all fun and games with my trip to Colorado, my trail race, and recovering from all of that. Plus I was just super busy. That’s why I missed two weeks of weekly recaps. πŸ˜‚

    But I’m back!

    Monday:

    • 2 miles
    • 25 minutes of Pilates

So this run actually wasn’t super great. I had too much wine and Easter ham the night before. πŸ–πŸ·πŸ€’ But I wanted to go out and so something, so I did! Followed by Pilates. THAT was a struggle, but I got a decent lower body workout done. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

    Tuesday:

    • 5 miles
    • 20 minutes of yoga

I had 3 easy miles on the schedule for today but that turned into what was basically a 5 mile fartlek, because I was having way too much fun for a shorter, easy run. πŸ˜‚

Training plans are definitely important and they’re there for a reason, but every so often you just need to embrace how you feel and roll with it. Sometimes that means backing off a little bit, sometimes that means taking a day off, and other times it means throwing caution to the wind and just running as fast and as far as you want to

    Wednesday:

    • 3 miles

So this run was hard. Like, it wasn’t actually bad or anything. It was just super humid and that’s not fun.

Plus I’ve been having some discomfort in my left knee all week (I tweaked it at some point. I’m not sure how, but I’m almost positive it didn’t happen while I was running). I’ve been doing the exact opposite of what you should actually do when you get a little niggle and I’ve just been completely ignoring it. πŸ˜‚ Definitely not a great course of action. But my high pain tolerance sometimes lets me get away with things like this. I mean, I ran 5 miles on a newly broken toe a few years ago. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • Thursday:
    • Rest day

Since my knee discomfort wasn’t really improving and I actually started feeling it down into my shin (which is pretty typical actually. I’ve had this issue with my knee since I was a kid) I finally made the correct decision to rest it.

Like I said, I’ve had this knee thing for forever so I’m not super worried about it. Hence why I kept running on it. πŸ˜‚ But since it wasn’t getting better I figured a little RICE was necessary. πŸ˜‰

    Friday:

    • Rest day

Still letting the ol’ knee have a little break! So I mean, the back half of this week has been pretty boring. Running wise at least. πŸ˜‚

Finn got his annual vaccinations on Friday. Going ya the vet stresses him the fuck out because he’s not particularly fond of strangers, but he did well! Also got the vet records for him, Lily, and Dean. We’re going to Minnesota later this month and they all have to be kenneled unfortunately. We’re bringing Whiskey with us though, because Luke and I aren’t fond of the idea of kenneling an 8 month old puppy. Obviously she’s had all of her shots and what not. But puppies her age can still have a bit of a fragile psyche. But it’s good for her to come with us, experience some new things (she’s not as well traveled as the other dogs πŸ˜‰), and be away from the rest of our small herd of border collies.

    Saturday:

    • Rest day

Skipping my long run is always the hardest part of taking time off. It’s been ingrained into my head that the long run is the most important run of the week. Maybe it’s not the most important, but obviously it’s there for a very good reason! Plus I never know what to do with myself on long run days when I don’t run. Like, normally a good chunk of the day is dedicated to preparing to run, running, and then recovering from said run.

But since I didn’t do any of that on Saturday I ended up binge watching several episodes of The Act on Hulu. I’d kinda heard bits and pieces of the story of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard, so when I saw The Act pop up on Hulu I was intrigued, but hadn’t gotten around to watching it until now. That’s done pretty crazy (and obviously dramatized for TV) stuff! It’s definitely an interesting watch!

    Sunday:

    • Rest Day

Not running when you want to run is hard. πŸ˜‚

But today was easier since Sunday’s are usually my rest days anyway. I finished watching Season 1 of The Act. Made scrambled eggs for my chickens (I had a ridiculous amount of eggs and they like them, so πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. It works out really. It’s a cheap protein to give them. πŸ˜‰). Did some stretching. Fun stuff.

Tomorrow I’m going to give a couple of easy miles a go though! See how everything feels and whatnot. It is all feeling better today, but sometimes it can be hard to really tell with things like this until you actually try to run on them.

So yeah, not the week I wanted to have. But it happens. Hopefully I’ll be good to go next week!

    Happy Sunday!

    ~Ashley

    Weekly Recap: March 25th-31st, 2019

This was a good week running-wise! Fantastic really! I felt good for the most part, got all of the miles in that I wanted to, and am just slowly but surely sneaking up my weekly/monthly mileage! 😊

While it was a good week as far as running goes, I really really skimped out on everything else. I did get a few yoga sessions in and even did a few foot drills, but I didn’t do any real cross training outside of walking my dogs and I didn’t do any strength training. πŸ˜‚ Oh well, I’m still happy with how this week went!

    Monday:

    • 4 miles

Oh man, this was one of the hardest “easy” runs I’ve ever done!

Well, maybe not ever. But definitely in recent memory! πŸ˜‚ My legs were still tired from my 10 miler on Saturday but I managed to slog through this run. Getting my legs moving was probably the best thing I could have done for them anyway. 😁

    Tuesday:

    • 3 miles
    • 20 minutes of yoga

My legs decided to cooperate with me on Tuesday! They were feeling much better. 😊

So I threw in some intervals just for fun. And it was fun. The weather was nice; warm but not oppressively hot, sunny, not too much wind. Sure I like winter running, but I do enjoy a warm sunny run every once in a while. πŸ˜„

    Wednesday:

    • 5 miles

Caffeine, sarcasm, and inappropriate thoughts were the only thing that got me out the door Wednesday morning. πŸ˜‚

Seriously though, I really didn’t feel like running. I drug my feet getting dressed, getting to the door, walking out of the door, and then finally leaving my driveway. But I was eventually glad that I did this run. It ended up going well. Especially after the first mile or 2.

    Thursday:

    • 2 miles

    2 speedy miles for me!!

I had a dentist appointment that morning to get a permanent crown put on the tooth I’ve most recently gotten root canalled. So yay for having one more tooth finally take care of! I’ve still got a long way to go and more work that needs done, but we’re slowly getting there. As much as our insurance and finances allow anyway.

So, after my dentist appointment I was feeling good and ready to get moving but I also didn’t feel like doing a lot. So I busted out two nice and speedy miles. Like, much more speedy than I’ve run in a long time! Honestly it felt really good to just get out there and run with what was basically reckless abandon. I ended up in that fantastic “hurts so good” zone. But it also felt really good to stop after only 2 miles. It was exactly what I needed that day. 😊

    Friday:

    • Rest day
    • 25 minutes of yoga

Friday may have been a rest day but it sure was a busy one! It feels like Luke and I had to go EVERYWHERE. πŸ˜‚

That evening I was finally kick back, relax with some tea, and do some nice and easy yoga. 😊

    Saturday:

    • 10 miles

Oh boy! Saturday was a very very interesting day!

It rained off and on all day on Friday and that cooled things down quite a bit. The moisture continued on Saturday. First with snow. Yeah, snow!!! Which eventually turned to rain, then the wind started picking up….but by the end of the day the sun started to come out and it started warming up again. It was kinda crazy!

So my long run ends up being kinda crazy as well! I started with the snow which was ok, but once that turned into rain and the wind started picking up things started getting kinda miserable for me. I was soaked and freezing. I stopped at home once at about 4 miles to change my outermost layer of gear and then at about mile 8 I was very much over it. So I went home, changed into dry clothes, and did the last 2 miles on my treadmill. I got all 10 miles done though and I’m very proud of that! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

Ah Sunday! Sunday’s are my real days of rest! I usually don’t have to do much outside of my regular chores and I always try to sit down, relax, and not do much of anything. I also like to do things that she me feel good. Kinda pamper myself, ya know? ☺️

So today I did a hair/face mask, cleaned, filed, and painted my fingernails, tended to my toenails (I so t paint them usually. It’s kinda pointless because I’m always wearing socks. πŸ˜‚), and just sat back and did a lot of reading. It was really nice. Plus now my hair face and nails all look and feel fantastic! 😁

I think it’s super important to do things that make you feel good like that every once in a while. So that’s usually what I dedicate my Sundays to doing. 😊

    Total Weekly Mileage: 24.12

As long as I keep this up there is no way that I won’t hit my goal of running 1,000 miles in 2019! Hahaha I know it’s still pretty early in the year and a lot can happen in the next 9 months, but as long as I stay healthy and injury free I don’t see any other reason why o won’t be able to keep this up and hopefully increase my weekly mileage even more!

Okey Dokey then! I believe that pretty much covers everything from this week! Like I said, even though I did no strength or cross training, I’m happy with how it went.

Now I’ve just gotta get through next week and then I’ll be off to Colorado to spend some time with my dad and siblings, and to run my very first trail race! I’m getting super excited about all of that! It’s going to be lots and lots of fun!

Happy Sunday and last day of March! I hope you’ve had a good week and month!

    ~Ashley

    Weekly Recap: March 18th-24th, 2019

Hills, tank top weather, a super moon, yoga, sunshine, a little bit of rain, a double digit run, and over 20 running miles! This week has it all and more!

    Monday:

    • 3 treadmill miles
    • 10 minutes on the stationary bike
    • 20 minutes of strength training

    Hills hills hills!!!

KILLED my quads on the treadmill on Monday. I want to be ready for my upcoming trail 10k in April, so I figure I need to squeeze in a few more hill sessions. 😊

After powering up some hills on the treadmill I cooled down a little bit on my stationary bike. Later in the day I continue the leg torture with a 20 minute leg workout. I like to think Monday was a successful day.

    Tuesday:

    • 3 miles

    It’s tank top weather!!

Not gonna lie, I’m not exactly stoked about that. I kinda already miss winter. πŸ˜‚ Where are my cold weather peeps at??

I was, however, pretty darn excited about how well this run went! I absolutely KILLED my legs on Monday. So they were super sore and understandably so when I woke up on Tuesday. But I was glad to find that even so my body responded well and even wanted a little more, even though my legs were tired and sore. It was a super fun run. It was also a hard run. Probably shouldn’t have done that after a hard day on Monday, but I was just having too much fun. πŸ˜„

I had good intentions of doing yoga later in the day, but I ended up babysitting my neighbor’s kid and that just never happened. Oh well.

    Wednesday:

    • 4 miles

4 “easy” miles done in the morning. They sure didn’t feel easy though. πŸ˜‚ The original plan was to do 6, but yeah, no. DOMS was REAL on Wednesday. Not really surprising though.

Anyway, Wednesday was the first day of spring and a full moon! Everyone was calling it a super moon but I honestly have no idea what the whole super moon thing is about. It seems like we have a “super moon” every month now. Whatever, the moon still looked incredible Wednesday evening. I took Lily and then Whiskey (I don’t walk my dogs together, they gang up on me if I do. πŸ˜‚), so I got to see it as the sun went down and the moon came up. Pictures never do it justice though.

    Thursday:

    • 2 miles
    • 15 minute arm workout
    • 20 minutes of yoga

Thursday’s easy 2 miles actually felt easy! πŸ˜‚ Seriously though, that was nice. Followed that up with a little arm workout and then yoga later in the day. Honestly it wasn’t an eventful day, but it was a good one. 😊

    Friday:

    • Rest Day

An impromptu rest day on Friday because oh boy was I tired!! 😴

Honestly though it was more of an active rest day. My little next door neighbor came over to “hang out” (i.e. her mom needed me to babysit her πŸ˜‰) around 12:30 that afternoon. So we walked to the park, played on a rock wall, swing set, and monkey bars, then we walked back home and watched Gravity Falls until Luke came home. Then we all played outside a little bit, had pizza for dinner, and finally got rid of my favorite 5 year old neighbor around 6:40 pm. She had fun though, so that’s all that matters.

    Saturday:

    • 10 miles

First double digit run since the Gobbler Grind Half in November! πŸ₯³ I’ve been enjoying my 8 mile long runs, but it’s long past time for me to start building them up!

Well, for now at least. I’ve got at least two more that I’d like to do before the trail 10k my dad and I are doing April 14th. After that I’m not sure if I’m gonna jump back into training pretty much where I left off, or if I’m gonna take a week or two a little bit easier and then build up from there. It really depends on how I feel once it’s all said and done. Sure it’s only a 10k, but it’s a 10k in the mountains and going from almost 1,000 feet above sea level to around 5,000 feet is hard! πŸ˜‚ Plus my dad is already planning some hikes he wants to take me on while I’m in Colorado, so really who knows how I’ll feel when I get back to Kansas. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I’ve got my training plan written out all the way up to the race and then like I said, I’ll just figure it all out after that’s all said and done.

So, I’ve been writing my own training plan so far this year and honestly it’s going great! Better than any training plan I’ve done up until this point! It’s pretty sweet actually! I know some people don’t like having to think about what workouts and runs they need to do, but I kinda like piecing it all together for myself!

This is actually probably a whole other post for a different day, so for now I’ll leave it at that.😊

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

It’s weird how adding two more miles to a long run can make you so much more tired. πŸ˜‚

When you think about it, two miles really isn’t a lot, but for whatever reason going from 8 miles to 10 miles feels like a big jump. At least I think it does! So today I felt a little bit more tired than usual since I did add those two more miles to my long run. Although I definitely don’t feel as beat up as I once would have! Just a little bit sore and tired. It’s pretty cool how you can gauge how far you’ve come based on how sore your legs feel the next day. πŸ˜‚

But really, there was a time when 10 miles would just completely wreck me. I’m definitely not wrecked today though! A little low on energy, but otherwise good! 😊

    Total Weekly Mileage: 22

Woohoo! Another 20+ mile training week! Honestly I would have liked to have gotten to 24 miles this week, but I ended up cutting my run on Wednesday a little short. Not a big deal really. I’m still happy with the fact that I went over 20 miles for the week. I’m slowly but surely working my way up!

Alrighty! That’s a wrap for this week! I’ve got two more full weeks of training and then it’s off to Colorado for a week and then my first race of 2019 on April 14th!

    Happy Sunday, everyone!

    Weekly Recap: March 11th-17th, 2019

Well this week turned out to be a pretty good one as far as running, training, actually doing some cross training, and whatnot goes! Mother Nature sure brought a few surprises this week as well, but all-in-all it was a good one!

So let’s get right into it!

    Monday:

    • 3 miles on the treadmill
    • 15 minutes on the stationary bike

Did someone speed work on the treadmill to kick off my week! Warmed up with 10 minutes on the stationary bike, did an easy mile on the treadmill, followed by some hard intervals, really focusing on my form, and then an easy half mile cool down, and finally 5 more minutes on the stationary bike.

It was a hard workout, but a good one!! Haha I had a very cute spectator and ran the first few minutes of my easy mile without shoes, just because it felt good not to. πŸ˜„

Anyway, Luke and I cleaned out our extra bedroom and put the treadmill, stationary bike, and other various exercise equipment. We’ve dubbed it the “exercise room” and let me tell ya, it’s pretty sweet having a room dedicated to exercise stuff! It definitely makes actually cross training easier! 😊

    Tuesday:

    • 3 easy miles

Holy moly my legs were tired after Monday’s speed work. That coupled with the wind we were experiencing made this run TOUGH. It was a super, slow slog, and I wanted to quit the whole time. But I finished it and I know I’m better for it. 😊

Anyway, it’s definitely starting to feel like spring here in Kansas! It’s getting warmer and windy and I’d say it was getting wet, but we actually had a super wet winter. πŸ˜‚ But it’s looking like we’re gonna have a wet spring as well.

    Make a wish. πŸ˜‰

    Wednesday:

    • 5.43 miles
    • downed tree stuff

We had wind gusts of up to 50-60 mph on Wednesday. That made for a very interesting day…

Started my day off in my usual way, with a run. 😊I got poured on during the first half of this run! That was a lot of fun!! Although at on point an older gentleman pulled up next to me in his car and offered to take me anywhere I wanted to go. I told him I was alright and politely declined. I know this guy probably had nothing but good intentions, but still, even if I wasn’t having a good time I wouldn’t just get into a car with a stranger like that.

Anyway, the wind really started picking up around the second half of this run. It started getting really bad so I ended up cutting this run a little short. Hahaha I’m good with that though. Running in that wind 5.43 miles should basically count for 6 miles anyway. πŸ˜‰

Later that afternoon we had a tree get blown down onto a power line. Yeah, not good. But thanks to the help of a few neighbors we got it down safely. You can read all about those adventures here, if you’d like. πŸ˜‰

    Thursday:

    • 30 minutes on the stationary bike
    • 20 minutes of strength work

Cross train day yay!! Hahaha worked on my kinda wimpy arms after taking a little spin on the stationary bike on Thursday. Followed that up with a little bit of head stand practice just for fun. πŸ™ƒ

    Friday:

    • 3.25 miles

Busy busy day!! Didn’t get my run in Friday morning like I usually would. I managed to squeeze it in that afternoon. It was a good one! 😊

It would appear that spring is finally here in Kansas! It was kinda weird, one day it was winter but then the next it was spring. πŸ˜‚ And it’s looking like it’s actually here to stay! We’re supposed to get highs in the 60’s next week. Anyone ready for me to start complaining about the warm weather? Because it’s coming.πŸ˜‚

    Saturday:

    • 8 miles
    • 30 minutes on the stationary bike
    • 20 minutes stretching/foam rolling

Oh man, that 8 mile run Saturday morning was an absolute grind. I got through it somehow though! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

That night my brother-in-law came over and brought his PlayStation that he set up on our second tv, so he and my husband spent the night playing Call Of Duty with their dad and one of their brother’s. I ain’t about that PlayStation life, so while they were doing that I ended up spending some time on our newly set up workout room! Spent some time on my stationary bike and doing some stretching and foam rolling while Lily watched. πŸ˜‚ Then after that I just binge watched more Law and Order SVU until 2 am when my brother-in-Law went home and we finally went to bed. Hahaha I’m not exactly a fan of staying up that late anymore, at least not often, but there was no way I was gonna to be able to sleep with all of that noise they were making. πŸ˜‚

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

Spent the day, resting, relaxing, and letting my week of training seep in. πŸ˜„

    Total Weekly Mileage: 22.77

Just barely missed the 23 miles I was aiming for! πŸ˜‚ Honestly though that’s close damn enough for me! I’m very happy with how well this week of running went and how easily I was able to jump back into the swing of things after being sick last week. πŸ˜„

At this point we’re about a month out from the trail race my dad and I are doing in Colorado! I got the racer’s guide via email a few days ago and looking at that elevation chart again kinda freaked me out! I’m going to be going from about 1,000 feet above sea level which is where I live to almost 5,000 feet at certain points of this race. There are definitely some hills. Yikes!

Good thing we’re the “Sloth Running Team” and are going to take our time and get there when we get there. πŸ˜‚

Still though, it’s gonna be a tough day! But probably lots of fun! I’m definitely looking forward to it!

    Anyway, that’s all for today!

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
