I’ve Potentially Made A Bad Decision?

Or maybe a really good one? I’m not entirely sure yet. Something good has already come of it so far so that’s good, at least. But we’ll get to all of that in a second! 😉

Anyway, kicked off my week with a little bit of 5k action! It wasn’t a particularly exciting run, but it was a good one. Plus my April StrideBox was waiting for me in my mailbox by the time I was done! Yay!! Always love getting my box full of exciting running goodies. So yeah, my week is off to a pretty great start so far. 🙂

My hand is feeling a lot better today too! It’s still a little sore and awkward but I can actually use it mostly normally now. My little puncture wound is healing really well too. It’s not quite closed up yet, but it’s definitely getting there. Haha I do not recommend getting bit by a dog. It’s no fun and just might put your hand out of commission for several days. But luckily it hasn’t actually been too big of an issue.

Ok, so onto my potentially bad decision then I guess. So the other day I texted my dad and asked him if he’d want to do another running thing with me. A half marathon as a matter of fact! The Gobbler Grind half marathon that is held here in Kansas. November! My dad does a lot of hiking and has been doing some running ever since we did the Whiskey run 5k together in March. So I think he’ll be able to do it, no problem. Plus the cut off time for this particular half is 4 hours. That’s about a 14 minuter per mile pace. I think that’s totally doable for him. The real question is, will it be doable for me?

You see, the problem is the Gobbler Grind marathon/half marathon/5k (but obviously we want to do the half haha) is held the second Sunday of November every year. And the Longview half marathon is held the second Saturday of November every year. And obviously I want to to the Longview half every year! I’ve talked about all of those reasons on here before, but I also really want to do the Gobbler Grind half marathon. That’s actually why I’ve recruited my dad to do the Gobbler Grind with me! I figure I’ll be more likely to make it through another half marathon after doing one the day before if I have someone there with me! Specifically, someone who has no time goal and who just wants to make it through there first. So it’ll be beneficial for both of us. 🙂

I’m already registered for the Longview Half and there’s no way I’m skipping out on my newly established November tradition!

Now the Gobbler Grind isn’t a for sure thing yet. My dad works for a trucking company and they’re always crazy busy in November because of everyone shipping Christmas stuff, and at this point my dad is pretty much running two different trucking terminals and he and his boss are working on opening a third. Plus my dad lives in Colorado so it’s an 11 hour drive just for him to get her. But he seems like he really wants to do it and he said he’s gonna try to make it happen. Last night he went to a local specialty running store and had someone help him try on a bunch of shoes, and he finally decided on a pair of Hoka’s. He also got himself one of those fancy r8 rollers, some Honey Stinger waffles (he really likes the lemon flavored ones 😉 ), and a pair of compression socks. So he’s getting all of the tools he needs and plans on doing a beginner’s half marathon training plan!

Not gonna lie, I’m pretty freaking excited that I’ve managed to convert my dad into a runner! I think that’s so awesome! Plus now I’ve finally got someone who actually wants to do races with me!! That’s pretty sweet!

Now I’ve just got to play a fun little guessing game called “can Ashley run two half marathons in two days?” Obviously I’ve never done anything like that before but I think it’s doable. Especially since the Gobbler Grind course looks a little bit easier than Longview’s. I haven’t run it before, but part of it is on a paved trail that I used to run on back when I lived in an apartment in Overland Park, KS. I know the second of trail that the course follows like the back of my hand and I also know that it’s relatively flat. Especially compared to all of Longview’s rolling hills. So that’s something! Plus the cutoff time for the Gobbler Grind is an hour more than Longview’s so that should help too haha.

Here’s Longview’s elevation map according to my Garmin. As you can see, its a slightly up hill course, with plenty of hills, and one big ass hill that is the entirety of mile two. I am pretty sure there is not one flat stretch of road on this whole course haha. Fun fun fun!!

It’s a really good thing I plan on really working on upping my mileage this spring/summer! I’m gonna need it! I’m also probably going to have to really up my recovery game too, especially after I finish the Longview half for the 4th time in a row! Haha I am pretty stoked about that! My November tradition is going strong! 🙂

Mile 11 of the Longview half; 2015, 2016, and 2017. My goal for this year is to not look like I did last year at mile 11 hahaha.

Whew, the thought of running two half running two half marathons in two days is absolutely terrifying! But all the more reason to do it, right? I mean, I didn’t become a runner not to do hard things! But like I said, it’s still not a for sure thing yet. Just a crazy plan that both my dad and I want to make happen and are both going to be working toward.

Alrighty then! Today I’ll leave you with the new single from my new favorite band. 😉 I hope everyone has a great week!

Your friend who is really good and making (potentially) really bad decisions,

~Ashley

Happy (Late) Birthday To Me!!

Well, not that late. Hahaha it was only yesterday. 😉 I definitely felt an outpouring of love yesterday from all of my family and friends, both in real life and here on the interwebs. 🙂

Anyways, I had a great day! I started it with a run! Yay! Haha I wasn’t sure if running 4 days after running a half marathon was going to be a good idea for me. After my previous 2 half marathons I took about 2 weeks of running to rest and recover and it was great! But this time around I didn’t feel like waiting that long. So I figured my birthday would be a good day to test out how my legs felt! So I ran for about 30 minutes (which ended up being around 2.2 miles). My legs felt a little stiff, sore, and tired, but it wasn’t too bad. Plus I had a lot of fun and that’s really all that matters. 🙂

After my run I showered/bathed Finn. That’s always a fun time…He’s 10 months old, so he’s a whole lot of young, dumb, impatient, and whiny, in a full grown dogs body. So what I’m saying is that I had to hold his wiggly ass in between my knees (luckily I’ve got strong, runner’s legs 😉 ), while I scrubbed him down and rinsed him off, because he can’t just stand there and take it, he actively tries to escape the shower. I also had to scrub mud off of his penis and testicles because he was just coated in it. Haha I definitely didn’t plan on getting all up in that dogs business that day, but hey, it happens. 😉

He was not happy with me after his bath.

I guess that was a little bit of a side tangent, so lets get back to birthday stuff! Luke’s dad and step-mom sent me the BEST birthday card ever. Seriously, I love it! The cat on it looks just like Bubbles and who doesn’t want a cat with lazer eyes lighting their birthday candles?

I also got quite a few texts and a call from my grandma, so I actually spent most of the afternoon talking to my family. It was nice. 🙂 One of my sisters is doing very well at her new nursing job and has already been offered a better position along with a raise. My other sister is currently in the process of buying a crazy nice house with her husband, who just recently got back from deployment. If she didn’t live 10 hours away I’d definitely be at that house all the time hahaha. 😉 And my dad, who is legit the coolest, most awesome, and funnest dad ever, is gonna run a 5k with me on Thanksgiving!! Originally I asked him if he’d do a mile with me to kick off the Runner’s World Run Streak and he’s the one who suggested we do a 5k instead! My dad’s not really a runner so I was super surprised about that, but obviously I told him that would be even better! We looked online for a turkey trot to sign up for, but every turkey trot that was actually on Thanksgiving day was over an hour away from where they live, so we didn’t want to spend that much time driving on Thanksgiving, so were just gonna run around the lake near his apartment instead. It’s still gonna be lots of fun though and I’m so super excited!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I like to think that my dad and I are very similar people. 🙂

So while I was talking to my family Luke had asked me where I wanted to go to eat for dinner. Haha he said originally he wanted to surprise me, but he wanted to tell me we were going out so that I didn’t make dinner and because he wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I appreciated that because I was literally about to start cooking hahah. Anyways, all I wanted was tiramisu (which is a weird thing to want I guess, but I’ve been thinking about tiramisu all week haha), so we ended up going to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner. I got an amazing order of eggplant Parmesan that came with really good herb pasta, and of course I got my tiramisu and it was fantastic! After we ate Luke set me loose in a bookstore. Luckily for him (because that could have taken forever) I already knew exactly what I wanted, and it didn’t take me long to find it. 🙂

I’m so excited to read this!!!

After our dinner and bookstore adventure, we stopped at the liquor store to get drinks and then we went home and spent the rest of the night sipping our drinks and watching Who’s Line Is It Anyway? Well, Luke sipped his drink, I ended up drinking a whole bottle of wine hahaha. In all fairness though, Luke egged me on! He kept telling me it’s my birthday and I might as well, and asked me a few times if I was gonna finish the damn thing. So I did.

And last but not least, at some point yesterday morning, I learned that Victoria’s Secret’s Pink is finally selling leggings with pocket!! As a person who never wears “real” pants and for real lives in leggings and yoga pants, this was legit the best discovery ever! So Luke ordered me a pair as a birthday gift, and they’ll be here later this month. I seriously can’t wait! I could absolutely use more pockets in my life!!!

Oh man, it was such a good day! 🙂 Although I’m definitely paying the price for drinking all of that wine! Woke up with a headache and dry mouth, but it’s all good and was totally worth it. 😉

So many exciting things have already happened this month and we’ve still got Thanksgiving too look forward to! This is why I love the month of November, there’s just always a bunch of fun stuff going on.

Anyways, happy Friday eve everyone! I hope you all have a great day!!

~Ashley
