Weekly Recap: November 26th – December 2nd, 2018

Finally starting to feel a little more normal this week! After my races and then a whole week off from running I was feeling off and having a bit of trouble getting back into the swing of things. I’m getting there though!! This week certainly looked more like a normal running week for me and for that I am extremely grateful! 😊 I feel like starting another holiday run streak has really helped! It’s definitely given me the motivation to get out the door and run, and the more I run the more normal I feel! 😁

Monday:

  • 2 snowy, icy, slushy miles
  • 25 minutes yoga

So we had a legit blizzard on Sunday. Like for real! It was insane! And guess who ran during it! That’s right, this girl! πŸ˜‚ Oh man, that was probably insanely dangerous as we were experiencing white out conditions, but it was also a lot of fun!!

Anyway, on Monday the sun was shining but there was still quite a lot of snow, ice, and slush on the ground. I know a lot of people hate it when the roads look like this, but I have soooo much fun running in this kinda stuff! Winter running is my favorite. Even if it does involve some slipping and sliding. β„οΈβ›„οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Tuesday:

    3 miles
    20 minutes strength work

Another snowy run! Yay!!

Well, kinda. The roads were mostly clear on Tuesday, but there were still some really icy spots. Most of them were short enough for me to dodge, but some of them were longer and required slow, deliberate tiptoeing over. Hahaha that’s what’s fun about running on ice and snow. It really makes you have to focus and think about where your feet are going. One misstep and you could end up on the ground. Luckily I’ve always been really good at picking out good footing in the ice and snow. At this point I I’ve never lost my footing enough to actually fall, which is pretty impressive considering how big of a klutz I am. πŸ˜‚

Anyway, followed my run with some lower body strength work! I’m definitely getting back into the swing of things and it feels good!!

Wednesday:

    2 miles

I just like winter running. Winter running is my favorite. β„οΈπŸ˜Š

You guys, the snow is still sticking around! It started getting all mushy and melty Wednesday afternoon. Still though, I’ve been enjoying it. 😁

Thursday:

  • 1 mile
  • 20 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 10 minutes ab work

Nice and easy 1 mile just to keep my run streak going. Followed that up with 29 minutes on my stationary bike and then 10 minutes of ab work, just for fun. Also broke out my all time favorite Christmas Zensah compression socks! ‘It’s the season!! πŸ¦Œβ€οΈπŸ’š

Friday:

  • 2.57 miles

Friday’s Run was supposed to be easy but it sure didn’t feel that way. Running is like that sometimes. But I was still smiling because running is a gift. Even on days when it feels hard.

Saturday:

  • 4 miles

4 fantastic miles to kick off the new month!!

Getting back into a more regular running routine has been a bit of a challenge, but Saturday’s run was the best if felt on a run in a LONG time! πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ I think I’m finally ready to start doing some real work again now!!

Sunday:

  • 1 mile

Just one easy mile to keep the streak alive! Nothin’ fancy, but it did feel really good!!

Alrighty! I’ve been not-so-patiently been waiting for this week to get over so I can start using my new Believe Training Journal! I mean, I could have started using it the day I got it, but I thought it made more sense to start it on the first Monday of a month! I’m dreaming big for 2019 and I think this journal will be a fantastic tool to help me make shit happen! I. Am. Stoked!!

Happy Sunday! Wishing you a fantastic new month!!

Christmas Time Adventures

Holy moly! Luke and I have squeezed in lots of Christmas time fun into the past day and a half-is. It’s been awesome!!

Our Christmas time adventures started yesterday, after Luke got off of work. Apparently he ha been looking up Christmas light shows and displays all week, so that’s what we went to do last night. First we went to this neat-o light show thing that synced up to music that played on their radio station. That was pretty neat, but we only stayed for 3 or 4 songs because we had other places to be and other things to do. πŸ™‚

The second stop on our magical Christmas adventure last night was a park. By the time we got to said park it was completely dark outside, but we could see it from several block away because almost every single tree was covered in Christmas lights! Oh my gosh it was absolutely beautiful!! The park had a little paved path that went around a little lake so we walked around that and admired the views and the reflections on the lake. And poor Luke completely froze because it was 20 degrees. I however, was very much enjoying the cold. πŸ˜‰ Haha we both enjoyed it though. It was absolutely wonderful and both of our Christmas light viewing adventures were completely free, which is always a plus!

After our walk around the amazingly lit up park we stopped at a store to pick up some cookie dough and other snacks because I was in a Christmas-y mood and wanted to bake. Haha I didn’t really have time to do it from scratch like I would have liked, but gingerbread cookies are gingerbread cookies either way, so I was happy.

img_8217-1

While I baked my cookies Luke called his mom and we played a trivia game with her over the phone. Obviously we had to make a few changes to the rules since she wasn’t physically there, but we all ended up having a lot of fun. Then after that I kicked Luke’s butt at the game of life. Haha every time we play that game I end up beating him pretty badly, so that’s exciting. πŸ˜‰

img_8225-1

And after I totally won at the game of life it was off to bed for the two of us, because we had a shit ton of things to get done the next day (today).

So we woke up this morning at 8 am, which was probably a little later than we should have, and I promptly had to jump out of bed, run outside, and brought our trashcan and recycle bins out by the street. Our trash/recycling company is kinda unpredictable about what time they pick up our stuff and I absolutely had to have it out there because it was all pretty much overflowing haha. That doesn’t happen very often, but with all of the Christmas gifts, food, and whatnot, we ended up with a crazy amount of trash this week.

After I’d gotten that taken care of I had to run back inside and get dressed because we had a full day ahead of us. First we cleaned out Luke’s car and took it to walmart to get the oil changed. That took an excessively long amount of time for some reason, but whatever. While we were there we picked up some stuff we needed and contemplated what Christmas gifts we needed to get and for who. Once the car was finally done and our stuff was bought we were off to the mall, where we ended up spending a pretty good amount of the day, running around all sorts of different stores, trying to get everything we needed. Surprisingly enough it wasn’t a huge madhouse today! There were a lot of people there, but not as many as we’d thought there would be and it wasn’t super crazy, so that was nice. πŸ™‚

After the mall we headed to Bass Pro. to get a few more gifts and then to Target to get sharpies (because we desperately needed some, but had forgotten about them up until that point) and some food to hold us over until Monday. The plan was to go grocery shopping today, but the parking lot of the Aldi we shop at was completely packed and we didn’t feel like dealing with all of that haha. We did go to Tractor Supply to get dog food though, so you can see where our priorities lie. πŸ˜‰

Whew! All of that took a lot of time and effort! By the time we got home it was around 1:30 ish. Maybe a little after. Anyways, Luke wrapped all of the presents because he is a million times better at it than I am, while I put everything else we’d gotten away, and attempted to at least keep the house in some kind of decent order. That’s not exactly easy to do when you have gifts, boxes, wrapping paper, trash, and a plethora of other things lying around. All while 3 dogs and 2 cats are running around and getting in the way of everything. Oh, and one of those dogs (Finn), kept getting all up in Luke’s business. This is his first Christmas, so all of the decor and craziness is kind of stressing him out and he needs constant reassurance that it’s all ok. Poor baby haha.

It was hectic, but I’m very glad we ended up getting all of that done today. We’ve gotten gifts for almost everyone we need to buy for taken care of and wrapped, so it’s nice to not have to worry about all of that stuff anymore. πŸ™‚

That wasn’t the end of our Christmas adventures though, because once we had the gifts wrapped we had to hang up the Christmas lights! Or some of them at least. You see, I’m a huge klutz and am very prone to hurting myself. Therefore, I am not allowed on the roof haha. So Luke put those lights up while I drank coffee and kinda stretched out the new string of lights that we’d bought this morning. And of course Lily was there to help. πŸ˜‰ And tomorrow I’m probably going to put up some more lights on the house and around the yard. Luke has to work tomorrow, but since the roof lights are all taken care of and nothing else requires a ladder I can do all of that by myself. πŸ˜‰

Once our roof lights were put up and all of the mess that was made in doing that was cleaned up it was about 4 pm and we finally got to sit down and relax! At least for a little bit. First we watched the latest episode of Supernatural and after we were done with that I realized I hadn’t gotten the mail today and that I needed to go do that because my December StrideBox was supposed to get here today, which it did! πŸ™‚

img_8237-1

This months box was full of all sorts of yummy goodies! That was a nice surprise!! Usually it only comes with one or two snacks, but this time that was a good majority of what was in the box and I’m 100% ok with that! Haha the snacks are usually my favorite thing in every StrideBox, so I’m pretty excited that I have all sorts of new goodies to try! πŸ™‚

img_8243-1

And friendly reminder that you can still use the codeΒ RunningRebel10Β (good until 12/24/17)Β to get 10% off of a 3 or 6 month gift subscription to StrideBox! If you’re still looking for a gift for the runner in your life, this is a great option! I mean, look at all the goodies that come in it!! πŸ™‚

After admiring all of the neat stuff in my StrideBox it was about 5pm, starting to really get dark, and I realized I still needed to get in a mile for day 16 of #RWRunStreak. Fuck me. After all of the Christmas shopping, gift wrapping, and light hanging we did today, running was the absolutely last thing I wanted to do. But I have committed to this streak, so I changed into a pair of running tights and shoes, pulled a hoodie over my sweater (because I was too lazy to bother to actually change into all running gear haha), got out the door, and busted out a mile. Honestly I’m really glad I ended up doing it. 1. I got to see my lights and a bunch of other pretty Christmas lights in my neighborhood. And 2. I ended up feeling a lot better after I did it! Honestly I probably should have done more than a mile because after I had gotten going I felt great! But it was starting to get really dark and all I had was pepper spray on me and being out and about alone after dark makes me kinda nervous. If I would have had one of my dogs or a gun with me I probably would have kept going, but I did not. But anyway, I’m still happy with my mile. πŸ™‚

img_8251

Whew! After that I showered, worked on a few blog posts, and now here I am at 7:30 pm, pretty much ready for bed! Hahaha I think that might be a little early though, so I’m gonna relax, watch some Netflix, drink some tea, and then call it a night.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Friday and is getting into the holiday spirit!

Your holly jolly runner friend,

~Ashley

Merry Christmas Eve EveΒ

Or Christmas Adam, if you enjoy that little joke. 😁

So last night I kinda sorta considered waking up early this morning and doing a long run, but my legs felt pretty shitty yesterday so I figured maybe that wasn’t the best idea. So then I though maybe I should still get up earlier, and just do 3 or 4 miles, since today is probably my last opportunity to squeeze in more than just Β a mile a day this week, because of Christmas stuff.

Ended up sleeping in and doing a mile later in the day haha. In all fairness, the extra sleep was probably a good idea. After my interval workout on Wednesday my legs felt gross, I’ve been tired, and I guess I just needed another easy day. πŸ™‚ Plus if all goes according to plan, I’m going to be waking up pretty darn early on Christmas Day, after probably going to bed late on Christmas Eve (I’ll get to all of that in a bit), so I might as well get a little extra sleep now, while I still can.

So anyway, I got up at 8 am and had cookies and coffee for breakfast. Hey, it was that or bake a potato, and since that takes an hour that I didn’t want to wait for food, I went with the cookies instead. Haha yeah, we really needed to go grocery shopping… Plus I feel like cookies for breakfast is better than nothing, but I’m probably just deludeding myself into thinking that was a better option for breakfast haha. Oh well. Tis the season, right?! πŸ˜‰

Luke got up around 10 (he’s off work today because this is his short week, and he got off work early yesterday because of Christmas! Yay!) and we went on a very much needed grocery shopping trip.

First we got all of our usual food stuffs at Aldi, then we ventured into an Asian food market. Like wants to make rice balls, so we needed seaweed. We also got some turmeric since it’s supposed to be super good for you or whatever, and some loose leaf jasmin tea. I’m super excited about the tea, it smells so good! They had s bunch of cool stuff at this place, so I’m sure we’ll be back at some point.

Anway after Aldi I had a squeezeable fruit pouch thing, then when we got home I had a few dried figs, so at least I got some nutrients in relativity early in the day. πŸ™‚

After our shopping adventures I finally got my mile in. I’m really glad I didn’t do the long run I though about doing, my legs are still tired and wasn’t feeling it anyway. But the streaks alive and that’s all that matters!!

While I was running and then showering, Luke did his first attempt at a rice ball…it did not go well. After some more research and a few tweaks, his second attempt went a little bit better. The first time the rice didn’t stick together at all, but it did the second time. They aren’t pretty, but they are tasty and that’s all that matters. 😁

So yeah, that was pretty much all we did today. The next few days are going to be pretty jam packed though. Our plans for Christmas go a little something like this; on Saturday after my brother in la gets off of work, Luke, my brother in law, and myself will all be attempting to shove our happy asses, 3 dogs, and a bunch of Christmas presents into my brother in law’s Kia, driving 5 hours to Illinois, staying the night there, spending Christmas with their family, then driving back home around 5 pm on Christmas Day. Whew, that’s going to be interesting!

We’re taking the Kia instead of Luke’s SUV because the heat in it isn’t working well, and obviously the Kia gets better gas mileage, so we’ll spend less money that way. But oh man, the 10 hours we’ll be spending in that car is going to suck! Between the gifts we’re bringing there and our gifts that we’ll be bringing back, no one is going to have any leg room.

Whoever sits in the back is going to have to deal with all 3 dogs. If it was just Lily and Dean it would be a problem, they adore each other. It’s other dogs intruding on their lovefest that the don’t enjoy. Especially when it’s my brother in law’s dog Odin. Lily hates Odin. She doesn’t like him being near her period. He’s tried to play rough/take over her alpha roll one too many times, and oh man can she hold a grudge. Plus she has a bias against labs (yeah that dog seriously has biases against other breeds of dogs, it’s weird), and he’s part lab, so that doesn’t help the whole situation. And Dean will play with Odin sometimes, but he always sides with Lily. So if Lily decides she’s not going to put up with Odin’s shit, neither will he. I don’t envy whoever is going to have to put up with that for 5 hours, and I pray to God that it’s not me.

Seriously though, Lily and Dean are two peas in a pod. And their cuddle fests help keep my feet warm! πŸ˜„

After our fun filled 5 hour card ride, we should hopefully be in Illinois around 11-11:30 pm. Now this is where I’m not entirely sure how things are going to go. Luke hasn’t let me in on his plan yet (probably because he’s not sure what he wants to do yet), but I’m hoping we’ll end up at my grandma’s house. She’s going to be all alone on Christmas Eve if we don’t show up at some point, and I know she’ll be super sad about that.

This will be the first Christmas season that she and I will be spending away from most of our family. I was hoping that all of my siblings would be home for Christmas, but they all drove to Colorado yesterday to spend Christmas with our parents. I probably should have seen that coming, but I was really hoping we would all get to spend sometime together at home, because it’s looking like our childhood home and my grandma’s house/farm are going to be sold soon. If I would have known last Christmas was the last Christmas my family would spend there together I would have tried to appreciate it more. But I guess hindsight is always 20/20 for things like that.

Ugh, i really wish I wasn’t such a sentimental person. That would make all of this so much easier…

Just some random photos from last year. That was the Christmas that it flooded really bad in Illinois and the year my parents got Niko.

Anyway, if we do end up at my grandma’s on Christmas Eve, I plan on staying the night there and then waking up super early on Christmas morning. There are a few places around the farm I need to go to just one more time. Especially my grandpa’s deer stand and a few places in the woods. This is probably the last chance I’ll get, but unfortunately I won’t have much time.

I’m sure Luke and his dad will want me at his house on Christmas morning. Luke’s dad always goes all out for Christmas and he likes having everyone together to open presents in the morning. Then we’ll probably head to Luke’s grandma Becky’s. We probably won’t get to stay for the big party she throws every year, but at least we’ll get to see her. Then we’ll be off the Luke’s grandma Wilma’s to spend some time with her. After that I suppose we’ll start our journey back home, and at some point I’ll need to run a mile. That may be kinda tough to squeeze in, but I’m going to try!

So yeah, this is shaping up to be one of the most sad Christmases I’ve ever experienced. We’ll be running around all over the place trying to squeeze in time with Luke’s family, and the only person from my family I’ll get to see is my grandma, and that probably won’t be for very long. Plus I’ve got the whole losing my childhood home looming over my head, so it’s just not exactly a happy time for me. And knowing that my parents and siblings will all be in Colorado and having fun together kinda bums me out even more. Oh well, maybe next year will be better.

We had a lot of fun times and great Christmases on the farm.

Alrighty then, this post wasn’t meant to get all sad and whiny, but sometimes it just happens I guess.

I guess at some point tonight I need to figure out what all I need to bring to Illinois, and then put it all in one place. But I’m going to procrastinate for a little bit and do some stretching.

Sister, Snow, Social Media, and Other Saturday Stuff

I’m just all about “S”‘s today, apparently.

My sister Sarah (another “s”, go figure πŸ˜‰), her husband, and their two dogs drove from Colorado to Illinois today, and of course they stopped here in Kansas on they way.

Sarah’s husband is in the army and is going to be deployed soon, so I guess they decided to spent his Christmas leave with his family in Illinois. Not that it’s a big deal or anything, our parents live like an hour and a half away from them in Colorado, so they can basically see each other anytime, and Sarah’s twin, and our brother, and grandma are still in Illinois, so she’ll get to see them while they are there. Actually, depending how long they stay in Illinois, I may get to hang out with all of my siblings at Christmas! Luke and I may be going there for a few days. That’s a big “may” though. He’s still not sure what he wants to do.

Anyway, my sister was super excited about stopping here, because I finally got to meet her 5 month old German Shepherd puppy, Moose! He is adorable, but kinda awkward. Haha he’s at that stage in life though, he’ll grow out of it eventually (oh man, you’d swear o was talking about a kid!).

I’m really glad she finally got a German Shepherd puppy. She’s wanted on for as long as I’ve wanted a border collie (so, pretty much her whole life).

Our grandma actually used to breed German Shepherds, so when we were really little we had a few of them around. I specifically remember the female, Sugar Baby, or Babe for short. She lived outside in a dog house in the corner of their yard because she hated being inside. She was an amazing dog though, my grandma and grandpa used to tell people they could leave us kids alone with her and not have to worry about us. They were probably right! She was super protective of us and wouldn’t let anyone she didn’t know near us, but we could climb all over her, grab her tail, ears, mouth, it didn’t matter, she would let us do whatever we wanted.

My grandma and “Miracle” a pup she bred, back in 1982.

German Shepherds are amazing dogs; smart, loyal, and protective. If they weren’t so prone to cancer and hip problems, and of it was easier to find one that didn’t have an American Kennel Club bloodline (that’s a whole other thing though, you definitely don’t want to get me started on that), Luke and I would probably end up with one at some point. But they are prone to heath problems, and most pure bred dogs have bloodlines tied to the AKC, so we are just going to stick with border collies (it’s actually still relatively easy to find border collies that aren’t associated with the AKC if you know what you’re looking for).
I’ve gone way off track here, I could seriously talk about dogs and border collies until my face turns blue, so I’m going to reel it back in before I get too deep into all that stuff.

Sarah and I have been texting each other all day about the weather. It started snowing in Colorado around midnight last night, so the road were pretty nasty, and their drive was slow going. We were hoping that eventually they’d be able to get in front of all the snow, but that never happened. Here in Kansas it was already kinda icy from the little bit of rain last night, and then we started to get some snow flurries around 10:30 am and by noon it was coming down pretty steadily.

I’m not complaining though! I love the snow!! It sucks that they had to drive through all of this, but they lived in Alaska for 3 years, so they should be used to it haha.

So I was originally going to wait to run until around 6 pm because that’s when the majority of the snow was supposed to hit, but I started getting super impatient so I went after lunch.

I had no plan going into this run. I was just gonna see how bad the roads were and go until it stopped being fun haha. The roads actually weren’t too bad, our town salted the roads last night and this morning, so while there were some slick spots it wasn’t too bad. I ended up going 4 miles. I briefly considered going another, but I was starving and a Honey Stinger waffle was calling my name!

After my run and waffle, I took a nice hot shower and then had a big glass of orange juice. I’m feeling a little sniffly again, so I figure I might as well load up on some vitamin C before and pray that I don’t end up with an actual cold (plus orange juice just sounded good 😬). So far this cold and flue season I’ve gotten a little sniffly but have yet to get a full blow cold, and I’m hoping to keep it that way!

So at this point in the day, the snow slowed down and then eventually stopped. Luke and I both started obsessively checking the weather, watching to see if the next wave of snow was still going to hit us. For once he actually wants the snow to hit us! But only because he wants the dogs to be able to play in it. I just like snow in general. ❄❄❄

On a slightly unrelated note, lately whenever I go to get our mail, I do it with Bruce in my hoodie. He enjoys going outside for a little bit. Yeah, my neighbors have to think I’m fucking nuts. I run in any and every weather condition, I’ve been running without shoes on, I talk to my dogs like they’re people while we’re out walking, and now I’m carting a ferret around. Yup, I’m definitely the crazy neighbor. πŸ˜‚

Around 5pm I had to take Lily and Dean for quick walks. By then it was snowing again and they love snow, so who am I to deny them time in their favorite weather. I mean it’s not like it was -12 with the windchill or anything (it totally was though πŸ˜‚). They were very short walks, but we had fun and got to see some Christmas lights.

The Civics Center’s tree is really pretty πŸ˜„

My sister, brother in law, and their two dogs finally made it to our house around 6:30 pm They said that for the most part the highways weren’t too bad until it started snowing again in Kansa. Then they started getting kinda gross. Their drive through Missouri will probably be even worse, unfortunately. The St. Louis area has been getting an icy mix since yesterday and MOdot has said multiple times that people should avoid traveling if possible. As long as they are careful they should be ok though.

Anyway, their dogs were super excited to get out of the car and run around. They got to play in the snow with Lily and Dean, and then they got to get lots of pets from Luke and I after we all ate dinner. They are very sweet dogs. πŸ˜„

They only stayed for about 1/2 an hour. They want to make it to Illinois before midnight, so the didn’t want to dawdled. It was nice to see them though, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Sarah.

So yeah, now that those shenanigans are over, I got pretty good run in, and the dogs got to play in the snow a little bit, I’m thinking it’s time for a pot of tea and to continue reading Game of Thrones.

But first I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’ve been pretty active on social media lately, so if you’re at all interested in the little weird, random things that go on in my life you should check me out here;

And if you follow me there’s a really good chance I’ll follow you! The only thing I won’t do is add you on Facebook. I kinda reserve that for close friends and family. πŸ˜„

Alrighty, I know this post is kinda long and rambly, so thanks for sticking with me for this long! I’m kinda thinking I should be doing some longer, more detailed posts, so I figure this had been good practice, even though I was all over the place. But that’s pretty much all I’ve got for today.

Happy snow day! ❄⛄️

Christmas Came Early This Year!Β

Oh man, Luke, his brother, and I are all very impatient people! That’s why Christmas came early haha.

Earlier this week Luke’s brother started doing his Christmas shopping. He schemed with me for a bit, and ended up getting Luke a new pair of shoes (which he desperately needed). I guess he was super excited to give them to Luke, because that’s exactly what he did the second he got back from the store.

I guess that kinda set the precedent for everyone else, because at this point, no one is waiting to give anyone anything until Christmas (aside from some people who we won’t be seeing until Christmas that is).

On Friday night Luke and his brother went Christmas shopping for me and their dad. Luke told me they were going all out for me, and oh man, they weren’t kidding! They were gone for almost 5 hours looking for certain things for me and their dad.

Their dad is one of the people we won’t be seeing until Christmas, but they got him a pretty awesome knife, claw thingy. Think Wolverine’s claws and that’s basically what it is. It’s pretty neat though, and he’s super into stuff like that, so I know he’s going to love it!

Luke begged me to stay up that night because they wanted to give me the gifts they got me that night. Haha told you we’ve all been too excited to wait!

When they came home they lugged in three huge bags, while wearing shit eating grins on their faces. I told them not to spend too much money on me (because apparently telling them I didn’t want anything was absolutely out of the question), so it was quite obvious that they didn’t listen. They ended up getting me a super spiffy pair of snow boots, Honey Stinger waffles, Shoe Dog (which is apparently a super popular book. They had to go to three stores different to find it), and a new tea set (I collect teapots because they are super neat). Oh and a fancy pair of wool socks! It wouldn’t be Christmas if I didn’t make out with at least one pair of socks. That’s literally all I ask anyone for. πŸ˜‚

Bubbles is enjoying the boxes everything came in.

So that was all super exciting! But I couldn’t just let them get away with getting me all of that. So on Saturday morning while Luke was still asleep I “stole” his car and drove my happy ass down to Tractor supply and got him a blue flannel shirt that he really liked and some green apple licorice (his favorite). Unfortunately I couldn’t afford to get his near as much as he got me, but the look on his face when he saw what I had done was priceless, and he hasn’t taken off the shirt since I gave it too him.

I’m not sure what to get for my brother in law, but I still have some time to figure that out. πŸ˜‰

Later on Saturday we all went out to find their brother and sister who live in Minnesota a few more video games that they wanted, then went to FedEx to have them shipped to them. Their package should get there on Wednesday and we’re all excited to find out how they react. They have no idea they have gifts coming from us.

After that was taken care of we set out to find their youngest brother (the one who lives in Illinois) a practice sword. Since they had gotten their dad a weapon, and my brother in law got their other brother a sword, they wanted to stick with that theme, but don’t think he’s ready for a real one yet (as someone who’s been shooting guns since she was three and playing with knives ever since I can remember, I don’t see what’s wrong with a nine year old having a real weapon, but I guess everyone’s different). We ended up finding one of those stick things that are covered in foam except for the handle. He’s absolutely going to love it, but I’m sure his mom is going to be pissed at us for all of these weapon like things.

I feel like I need to stop for a second and say yes, I do know that there’s a lot more to Christmas than gifts, but you gotta admit, giving and receiving gifts is a lot of fun. Especially when you give someone something you know they’ll absolutely love or have wanted for a long time.

Anyway, I feel like I’ve been saying “super” a lot lately. I know I’ve used that word at least 18 times in this post (that’s probably an over exaggeration, but whatevs). I go through phases of using certain words or phrases, I think. I don’t know why I felt like stating that here, I guess I just find it super interesting. Hey look, I did it again! πŸ˜‰

I feel like I’ve rambled on long enough about Christmas gifts and my weird habits, so I’m thinking now would be a a good time to ramble about running for a little bit! I mean, that’s pretty much the main premise of this whole blog anyway.

As of today I am at the halfway point of the Runner’s World winter running streak! Yay!! Only 20 more days to go!

I think my body is finally starting to adjust to the whole streaking thing. My legs don’t have that lead/jello-y feeling anymore, and I feel really good as a whole. At this point I’m really starting to enjoy my little one mile jaunts. I feel like there’s no pressure to go far, or at a certain pace. I’m just out there running and having fun. It’s really nice.

Although I tend to struggle getting out the door though. I definitely did this this morning, once I get going in usually able to shake off any negative thoughts and enjoy myself. This morning was particularly exciting because it was super cold and I had a Green Day album keeping me company before, during, and after my run. πŸ˜„

For some reason Winchester really wanted to try my coffee this morning.

That being said, I don’t think I’m going to be extending this streak any farther that the 40 days I’ve planned to do. As much fun as I’m having, I still feel like I’m one of those people who need to take at least one total rest day a week. But who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind in the next 20 days. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I’ve got a lot to do around the house today and I’m starting to feel like I’m running out of time to get it all finished.

Happy Monday! I hope you’re enjoying the Christmas season as much as I am!
