Happy blogging birthday to me!!

img_7539

As of Tuesday I’ve been blogging here for 3 years! I thought that was pretty neat! I’ve met some really cool people and have felt like I was a part of an awesome community thanks to this blog. It’s been a fun 3 years! πŸ™‚

Coincidentally, 3 years ago was when I started to get into races. I did my first half marathon in November of 2015 and then I did my very first organized “5k” in December of that year. My first 5k-ing experience was definitely an interesting one! The race I did was a super small, Christmas themed one, put on by one of the churches in my town. Unfortunately they don’t put it on anymore or else I totally would have done it again! I think it was one of the most unique races I’ve done as of yet!

  • It was held at night. As far as I know most races are held in the morning, so that was pretty cool! Especially because of all of the Christmas lights!! Which was the whole point of running at night, I suppose.
  • No race bibs. We were given Santa hats that had tiny Santa’s on them that light up instead.
  • Santa drove the course in a lime green VW beetle with the top pulled down and all decked out with Christmas lights. That was a lot of fun!
  • There were maybe 30 people who ran it? That took β€œsmall, local race” to a whole new level!
  • The finish line was one of those little yard tent things you use to shade patios in the summer. Covered in Christmas lights of course! 😊 No fancy time display, timing mats, or time chips.
  • Soooo many people from my town were out cheering on the runners! Honestly this race probably had the best crowd support I’ve ever experienced! And why not?!? It was our friends, neighbors, and police force cheering us on!
  • Remember how I said there was no fancy timing equipment? Apparently there was no measuring of the course either. This run was advertised as a 5k, but it actually came out to be around 3.03 miles. Not a big deal though. At the end of the day it was all just got fun. 😊
  • And last but not least, there was hot chocolate and cookies for all and the end! What’s not to love about that?! πŸͺ

img_7562

Seriously, it was one of the most interesting and probably most fun runs I’ve ever done! πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ And can we just take a second to appreciate how long my hair was?!? Jeez that was kind of excessive and I kinda miss it. πŸ˜‚

Also, fun little fact; that’s the only race I’ve ever done that I didn’t write a race recap for haha. But I mean, I pretty much summed it all up now. So that’ count’s for something, right? πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I just want to take a second to acknowledge how big Whiskey is getting!!

Processed with Rookie Cam

She was such a tiny little thing when we got her, but she is growing into a beautiful dog! Haha you can see one of her ears has gone up. I thought she was going to end up with floppy ears, but it’s looking like I was wrong!! That one just kinda shot up over night! Every once in a while the other one will go up too, but it usually doesn’t stay that way long. But I’m thinking eventually it will end up being pricked too. Hahaha honestly I’m pretty excited about that! Obviously it really doesn’t matter much, but I do like dogs with pricked ears. πŸ™‚

She is a very well built little puppy. She’s been going through a growth spurt and gained 6 pounds in a month hahaha. The vet is thinking she’ll get up to be around 30-35 pounds and I was thinking the same thing. Our vet is also pretty supportive of us breeding Finn to her as long as she doesn’t have any kind of health issues pop up, which is unlikely but it’s always a possibility.

Whiskey and Lily

Hahaha my house is super duper Christmas-y right now and it makes me super happy! πŸ™‚ And now I’ve finally got a gift under my tree!! I’m literally the worst gift wrapper in the world, but Luke’s been threatening to go snooping for what I got him for Christmas so I had to wrap that today. But other than that, that’s the only gift we have under the tree. We’ve mailed some off so we aren’t like behind on Christmas shopping or anything, so that’s good. I temporarily had two under my tree! The little neighbor girl I babysit turned 5 yesterday so I had her gift under the tree for a whole hour haha. She came over today so obviously I gave it to her. Getting gifts is great, but honestly I think I like giving people something I know they’ll really like more! That’s always a great feeling. πŸ™‚ And my neighbor seemed really happy with what I got her. It was just a stuffed Stitch (from Lilo and Stitch πŸ˜‰ ). She told me she was definitely going to sleep with him tonight, so I figured that meant she liked him haha.

Anyway, last night Green Day put out a new music video as kind of a Christmas gift for their fans. Obviously I was pretty excited about that because they are my favorite haha. But I thought it was especially cool because it’s made up of a bunch of different clips from their Revolution Radio tour and they included a bunch of different clips of fans. I just think its really awesome that Green Day seems to love their fans just as much as their fans love them and when they do things like this it just makes you feel like you’re a part of something, ya know?

Hahaha I haven’t fangirl-ed in a while, so I’m not gonna apologize for doing it this time. πŸ˜‰

Okey Dokey, that’s all for today!

Happy Friday eve, I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season!

Thursday Things

Buckle in my friends, I have quite a bit of stuff to talk about today! Mostly involving fun fall stuff, but some running stuff too! πŸ˜‰ Including a fantastic #throwbackthursday photo from the start of the Longview Half last year. So, let’s get started!

Processed with Rookie Cam

I don’t think Luke really understands why I love this season, or really just the last few months of the year, so much. And honestly sometimes I’m not sure either. Well, aside from the fact that the best holidays happen in October, November, and December, my birthday is in November, the weather is fantastic, and everything just feels all warm and cozy and festive. So never mind, I’m totally sure! πŸ˜‰ But he’s a wonderful husband and is always making sure I get to experience all of the fun fall/winter related activities! Even if they seem ridiculously small and almost meaningless. Like baking pre-cut, Halloween sugar cookies (for real though, I think we can all admit that these are some of the best cookies ever!).

img_5406

So yeah, I’m not sure that he gets it. But he’ll still randomly show up after he gets home from work with things like this, and it makes me so ridiculously happy. It really is the little things in life you guys. πŸ™‚ Haha he also knows me incredibly well! While I was making them he asked how many raw cookies I ate. πŸ˜‚ The answer was 4. But come on, cookie dough is delicious and has anyone actually ever gotten salmonella from cookie dough anyway. πŸ˜‰

He also lets me decorate ALL OF THE THINGS!! Haha inside and outside! Although this is the first year we’ve actually had inside Halloween decorations. He even helps me pick out new ones and put them up! Haha but I’m not allowed on ladders (worlds biggest klutzs here!), so he kinda has to. πŸ˜‰ Anyway, so far our yard is looking pretty spooky! We’ve got a nice little graveyard set up (pictured below), spooky spider webs all over our trees, and several bats hanging around. We had ghosts hung up too, but the wind blew them down haha. We’re gonna fix that though. And Luke wants to figure out a better way to set up our lights. His mom sent us some really cool ones, but our house has no outdoor outlets, so setting up lights is always a pain in the ass. Good thing Luke’s got a degree in electrical design. πŸ˜‰

img_5328

He also tolerates me sending him ALL of the Halloween memes and our neighbor’s Halloween decorations. And by the way, some of my neighbors are totally KILLING it with their decorations! I love it! I also love that I’m not the only one who likes to go all out for Halloween. πŸ™‚ So far these are a few of my favorite houses. Haha actually, I talk to the guy who lives in the red/white house all of the time. He’s a really cool guy! He has two black labs that are always excited to see me and he always goes all out with Halloween and Christmas decorations. Obviously his blowups aren’t currently inflated, but they’re still really neat!

So yeah, I’m currently having ALL of the fall fun and my husband is THE BEST! πŸ‚πŸŽƒπŸ–€

Okey dokey then, lets talk about running stuff!

So, today’s run should have been fantastic! The weather was great, the leaves in my neighborhood are starting to change, everyone is starting to put up their Halloween decorations (haha the two photos above are actually from my run this morning), and I felt pretty great! Well, except for my right shin actually.

I am what most people would refer to as an β€œinjury prone runner”. A lot of that actually has to do with my klutzy-ness, but I also have notoriously weak hips. Which has caused me problems with my IT bands and shins. I’ve also had plantar facial issues, but that was from running in a pair of shoes that were waaay too supportive for my very high arches in my feet. πŸ™ƒ

Anyway, I was just beginning to think I might make it through this training cycle unscathed. I’ve been working on my hips and doing a pretty good job of keeping up with my recovery activities, but this morning my right shin/knee was feeling kind of off this morning… That’s actually super weird because it’s usually my left leg that’s the problem, but whatever. πŸ˜‚ So at first my stubborn ass thought I was just going to run through it and finish my 5 mile run as planned. I have a ridiculously high pain tolerance, so that was something I could have easily done. But the more I thought about it the more I realized I needed to stop. I’m obviously going to be better off taking care of what’s hopefully just a niggle and not a full blown injury before it gets any worse. I’m actually really good at being a lot more hurt than I think I am because of my crazy pain tolerance. So yeah, I made it 2.5 miles before I decided that those last 2.5 miles weren’t going to be worth it. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Honestly though, I think whatever it is that I’ve done to myself happened on the treadmill yesterday. I legit can’t run properly on a treadmill. I thought that maybe I was starting to figure it out, but apparently not. I’m beginning to think treadmill running is actually a hazard to my health.

Processed with Rookie Cam

So I’ve spent the rest of the day resting my leg. I’m wearing my compression gear and did a bunch of stretching and foam rolling this afternoon. And I plan on taking tomorrow off too. I’m hoping that if I rest it and give it a little extra TLC that it will feel good enough to do my long run on Saturday. Possibly Sunday if it’s still feeling off on Saturday. But anyway, hopefully it’s just a little niggle from running weird on the treadmill.

Moving on, I’m super duper excited to announce that I get to be a part of the Honey Stinger Hive for the 3rd year in a row! πŸπŸ―πŸ’œ

img_5404

I’m sure by now a lot of you know that Honey Stinger waffles are my go-to running fuel! They’ve gotten me through 3 half marathons and most of my training! Along with their chews and new cracker and nut butter bars. Those things are amazing!

Of course I love the product, but what I really love is the community that Honey Stinger has created. Some of us are runners, cyclists, swimmers, hikers, surfers, snowboarders, golfers, the list goes on and on and on! But no matter how fast or slow, what sport or activity you participate in, what walk of life you’re in, whether you’re a stay at home mom, 9-5er, or a professional adventurer, you’re a complete beginner or are going pro, everyone is here for each other. Always positive. Always supportive. No one gets left out. And I just think that’s the bee’s knees. (See what I did there. πŸπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚). So I’m very stoked that I have the privilege of representing this brand for another year. πŸ™‚

img_5047

Alrighty, as promised, the fantastic #throwbackthursday photo from last year…

Have you ever looked back through old race photos and thought to yourself “wow, I’m super photogenic!” Yeah, me neither. In all fairness though, getting your headphone placement just right is super important. Especially at the start of a race.

img_5384

I couldn’t remember if I’ve actually shared this photo on here or not, but I figure it’s too good not to. Haha I find candid race photos to be very amusing. And why not? It’s hard to look good for a camera when you’re focused on the task ahead. It makes for fun photos to look back on. At least I think so. πŸ˜‰

Whew! Alright! I’m pretty sure that covers everything for today!

I hope you have a great Thursday and the MOST fantastic fall!

Support Me on Ko-fi

Thursday Things

Remember how almost a year ago I got to see my all time favorite band for the second time and it was literally the best thing ever and I was the happiest camper that ever was?!?!? Yeah, me too.

img_3984

#throwbackthursday

Yeah that was super-duper irrelevant, but I shared that on Instagram this morning so I thought why not share it here as well. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, this week has been a little hard so far, half marathon training-wise. I had a rest day on Monday, followed by an interval session on Tuesday. That went REALLY well and I had a blast doing it. Probably because it was raining and a little bit cooler that day. And I also really like interval work haha. But after that everything had been a bit of a struggle. I’ve just been really tired this week (menstruating does that to me sometimes) and have been struggling to get up and moving in the mornings. Plus after the rain on Tuesday it got really hot, humid, and gross out again. And we’ve been getting more air quality alerts which really sucks. I was hoping we were done with heat and air quality warnings, but obviously we are not. I’m really hoping that August ends up being our last really hot month, but September can still be pretty warm too. I guess we’ll have to wait and see though.

img_3985

Now that being said, I’ve still been sticking to my training plan and getting shit done!! Just a little more slowly this week. πŸ˜‰ The plan for today was an easy 5 miler. I started out on the road but I didn’t wake up early enough this morning, so at about 3 miles in it was 80 degrees with 90% humidity, sunny, and the air quality was really bad. So I gave up finishing my run outside and completed it on the treadmill instead. Really glad I have that option now, otherwise this run would have been cut short! πŸ™‚ I’ve got a hill workout on the scheduled for tomorrow and I still haven’t decided if I want to try to do it outside or just do the whole thing on the treadmill. It’s supposed to be pretty gross out tomorrow as well…

img_4001

Anyway, after my run this morning I was pretty busy! I spent the rest of the morning cleaning EVERYTHING haha. I did a bunch of laundry, watered and tended to the garden, cleaned both of my rabbits’ cages which is a time-consuming process for various reasons, completely cleaned and took every inch of the room they live in, and then kinda spot cleaned the rest of the floor through out the house. Oh and periodically checking on the chickens and giving them ice, since they seem to hate this weather just as much as I do. After all of that was taken care of I showered, ate lunch, and sat down to read for about an hour because I felt like I needed a bit of a break after all of that haha. But at around 2 pm I was back at it again, this time doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen, and then putting away laundry. Usually I don’t enjoy doing chores around the house, but today I really was for some reason so I was trying to take advantage of that. πŸ˜‰

img_4003

Oh and I’ve been doing a pretty good job of keeping up with my little push up challenge! Las night I thought I had forgotten to do them during the day, but when I checked the scheduled yesterday was actually a rest day so that worked out haha. I did my 7 push ups for today later in the afternoon after my cleaning frenzy. I did all 7 on my toes which I was pretty darn proud of! I’m still not able to go down all the way, but before 5 was the most I could do on my toes and I felt like I was dying doing them. Now it’s still hard, but I feel pretty good doing them! Haha and maybe by the time this challenge is over my push ups wont look so half assed. πŸ˜‰

img_4009.jpg

Well, that pretty much sums up what I’ve done today though. Like I said, tomorrow I’ve got a hill workout to do, and probably a little bit of strength work too. And of course Saturday is my long run day. Then Saturday evening Luke and I are going to a housewarming party. I’m not sure who is all going to be there but the only people I’ll know are the couple who are throwing the party and Luke. Not exactly an introverts idea of a good time haha. Not gonna lie, I’m already looking forward to my rest day on Sunday. I’m already worn out just thinking about all of that! πŸ˜‰ But I’ve been pushing through and getting it done! I’m so so so very ready for fall to get here, but I can’t deny that all of these hard summer miles aren’t helpful. They make running in the colder months seem so much easier and feel that much more enjoyable. Summer miles bring fall smiles!

All righty then! That is all from me for now!

How’s your summer running been going? Are you currently training for anything? Do you like running in the warmer months or the colder months better and why? Apparently I’m just full of questions today! But I would really like to know your answers! πŸ™‚

Happy Friday eve!! I hope your week has been good so far!

Buy Me A Coffee

Thursday Things

Hi, my name is Ashley and I’m a little bit obsessed with a band called Green Day. But we all already knew that, right? πŸ˜‰

This is relevant, I swear!!

Tuesday (May 15th) was the 9th anniversary of the release of 21st Century Breakdown. That is just absolutely crazy!! This album (along with Hollywood Undead’s Swan Songs) was basically the soundtrack to my junior and senior years of high school. So today I wanted to share with you the story of what I did the day 21st Century Breakdown came out 9 years ago. It’s not a long or a particularly exciting story, but it is kind of ridiculous! And if I could go back, I’d totally do it again!!

img_1685

So, May 15th, 2009. It was the end of my junior year of high school and the day Green Day’s much anticipated follow up to American Idiot came out. I couldn’t tell you what day of the week it was (although I’m sure I could figure it out after a few minutes of googling haha), but I knew I totally wasn’t going to school that day! You see Green Day was (and still is) my favorite. At that point everyone knew it. And I was just as intrigued, interested, and excited to see how the hell they were going to follow up the masterpiece that is American Idiot. I’m pretty sure I hadn’t shut up about it since we knew that they had started recording a new album. Haha some things never change…

Anyway, I have no idea how this happened. I don’t remember even asking, but on that day my mom let me skip school so we could go to the mall and buy the CD at Hot Topic. Which was insane! I had already pre-orderd the album on Itunes with a gift card I had, but now I had a chance to get a physical copy on the day it came out?! There was no way I was gonna pass up on that! So after my sisters took our younger brother to grade school and then went to high school themselves, my mom and I went to the mall. So just a little side note, I had to get the CD at Hot Topic because at Hot Topic you got a free t-shirt when you bough the CD, and obviously I needed that free shirt! πŸ˜‰

So yeah, other than that the day was relatively uneventful. I got the CD and the free shirt, then spent the rest of the day listening to the album on repeat. After that day that CD ended up living in Luke’s old, shitty Beretta because my old, shitty Saturn didn’t have a CD player haha. And we always listened to either 21st Century Breakdown or Swan Songs while we did little shithead teenager things. And that’s the story of the time I skipped school because of Green Day.

And continuing in the spirit of Throwback Thursday, here’s a photo of me from around that time period. I had to have been 17 or 18 in this photo. I thought I was such hot shit back then haha. And note all of that 21st Century Breakdown artwork on my wall. I do kinda miss having all sorts of neat stuff on my wall like that. πŸ˜‰

img_1751

So in celebration of the album that was often playing in the background of my late teenage years, I had to listen to it during my run today. Haha for as much as I listened to it back in high school, it’s been a while since I’ve listened to 21st Century Breakdown all the way through. I got a little bit too excited, went out too fast, and was absolutely dead at 3 miles. So I stopped right about then and went to work in the garden.

Luckily I didn’t have to doΒ tooΒ much work in the garden today. Mostly just did some watering and weeding. But everything is looking really good out there! The warm sunny day’s we’ve been having are making my tomatoes grow like crazy, which is awesome! And my peach tree is covered in little tiny peaches! I’m really hoping that this is the year we actually get a few to grow big enough to get ripe! We’ve had this tree for going on 3 years now and we’ve yet to get a single peach from it!

But anyway, summer running is hard. The heat and humidity do me in every time. It’s not fun but I know struggling through it makes me a better runner and will make me stronger in the fall. That being said, I believe I’m done with races until the fall. Running With The Cows was a lot of fun, and I got really close to my goal, but the humidity that day was awful and I felt pretty terrible for a few days afterwards. So my goal for this summer, just like every summer, is just to survive haha. Oh man I’m already ready for fall!

And last but not least for today, I’ve got another coupon code for StrideBox!! Yay!

You can use the code ASHLEY10OFF at checkout to get $10 off of one box. The code is only good through May 31st, so if you were looking to give StrideBox a try now might be a good chance to go for it! But that code doesn’t last long, so you’ll have to do it fast! πŸ™‚

img_0205

Now for the sake of all transparency, I am a StrideBox ambassador and I get my StrideBoxes for free. But I only ever represent brands and company’s that I actually use and love, and I really do love StrideBox. Getting a box full of fun running goodies once a month is pretty freaking awesome! And I’ve never been disappointed in what came in a box. There’s always stuff in there that I could use or have wanted to try. And don’t even get me started on the yummy snacks!! πŸ™‚

img_1517

I hope that didn’t soundΒ tooΒ much like an ad. I’m not exactly trying to sell you guys stuff. It’s more like I’m recommending things that I like, and if I have a code or know of a sale that I can share, then heck yes I’m gonna share it for anyone who may be interested in it after hearing me talking about it!! Or at least, that’s what I’m trying to go for anyway. πŸ˜‰

Anyways, that’s all for today!

Until next time,

~Ashley

Thursday Things

Woke up early this morning, briefly considered doing my run, very quickly decided β€œfuck that”, and went back to bed. Haha I was just really tired. πŸ˜‰ But I only had an easy 2 mile run planned for today, so I figured skipping it wasn’t a big deal.

Once I did finally get up I ended up spend way too much time scrolling through all of my social media. Jeez that is a really good way to lose a good chunk of your time haha. But I did get to see a few of the cows that are going to be hanging out at the Running With The Cows starting line area and I was pretty excited about that! How adorable are these two?!? I’m very excited about seeing them on Saturday!

img_1572

Obviously this isn’t my photo. I screen shot it from the Running With The Cows facebook page.Β

Luckily I didn’t end up wasting my whole day on the social media. That’s crazy easy to do haha! Eventually I got up and got some stuff done. I cleaned the ferret cage while they ran around for a while, and then did some stuff in the garden. Mostly just watered it, but I pulled out a few weeds too haha. Everything out there is looking pretty good right now though! Before too long we’re gonna have a bunch of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggs, and all sorts of other good stuff. πŸ™‚ I’m very excited about that!

After the ferret cage was clean and the garden was watered I took Lily and then Dean for a walk, worked on a few blog posts, started some laundry and general tiding of the house, and then I sat down with another cup of coffee and the book Cujo. Can you believe this is legit the first time I’ve read Cujo?!? Stephen King is my all time favorite Author and he has been since I was in like, 7th grade. The first ever β€œgrown up” book I read was The Stand. 2 whole shelves on my huge book shelf are dedicated to and are absolutely overflowing with his books. But still, this is the first time I’ve read Cujo haha. But I mean, I’ve seen the movie about 8 billion times so I always reached for anther one of his books whenever I would go to get one. I’ve also never read Carrie or Pet Sematary. Pretty crazy, right? But again, I’ve seen both of those movies about 8 billion times as well. But since I’ve finally gotten around to Cujo I’ll eventually get to Carrie and Pet Sematary as well. I mean, the book is always better than the movie anyway. πŸ˜‰

Thursday Things

Some stuff has happened this week! Haha actually, Luke and I have had quite a bit of stuff going on. So has my dad! He’s been absolutely killing it with all the running he’s been doing! I hope my brother has been too, since he’s gonna be running the Gobbler Grind half marathon with us in November as well, but he doesn’t like to text much haha.

Ok, I need to figure out where I want to start, because I really do have a lot to talk about today…Lets kick off this post with some exciting news about our current transportation situation!

img_1255

Yesterday Luke traded in our piece of shit 2005 (I think?) Chevy Equinox for a 2016 Ram 1500. Holy cow that is one nice truck!! And its a huge improvement over what we were driving around in before! We actually have heat now!! You might recall that our journey to Colorado for Thanksgiving was awful because the SUV’s heater didn’t work. Haha and it was basically falling apart on on, so an upgrade was necessary. πŸ™‚ Plus Luke is super duper happy because he finally has his truck. He’s wanted on FOREVER and is pretty stoked that he has one now.

img_1256

This summer we’re going to be going on another family vacation with Luke’s mom, siblings, a few aunts, his grandma, etc. We’re going to be going to Branson, Mo to spend a week together, and since it’s only 4 hours away from us Luke and I will be driving there. But it’s gonna be such a nice trip in the new truck!

Alrighty, lets get back to my dad and half marathon training! He’s been running A LOT!! On Thursday’s he’s been going to a group run thing that a local running store puts on which is awesome, and last weekend he did a 12 mile long run! I told him to be careful, but at this rate he’s already ready to run a half marathon!

On Tuesday he and my brother did a 6 mile run. My plan for yesterday was to do a 6 miler and I was about 3 seconds away from skipping it, but since my training partners went out and did it the day before I obviously had to do it too. I am the most experienced runner in this family and I’m not about to let the two newbies beat me!! πŸ˜‰ Haha we might be separated by 600 miles, but we’re still motivating each other to get shit done!

img_1246

If it wasn’t for my dad and brother running 6 miles the day before, I wouldn’t have done this run on Wednesday.

So I’m super stoked that my dad is 100% dedicated himself to this half marathon thing and I hope he keeps running even after we cross that finish line!

As for me, well, running is going pretty good. I’m currently going through a base building thing since I spent so much of the winter fucking around, hurt, and sick (haha I’m always those two things..). And that’s all fine and good until I realized that I didn’t want to completely die during the first few weeks of actual half marathon training, so I’m just gonna completely die now and then hopefully be in a lot better shape in July when my training plan starts. πŸ˜‰ It’s actually not that bad, I’m just really tired. But I’ve been through this before and I know in a few weeks I’ll feel good and actually like running again. Haha but for now I’m not to thrilled about lacing up my running shoes every morning. Especially not this morning. Ugh, I just wanted to sleep in and then spend the day doing absolutely nothing. I got it done though!

Ok, so lets talk a little bit about my chickens now, because I absolutely love them and can’t wait for fresh eggs!!

img_1146

They have adjusted to life in their coop very well! Around 6:45-7 ish in the morning either Luke or I run out there, let them out of their nesting box, and feed them. Haha they’re so funny. They get so excited when they hear you coming. They know that people mean food, and obviously they like their food! Then I go out there a few times a day to check on them and give them treats. So far their favorite thing is bananas! They go crazy over bananas!! So at 8 pm when we lock them up again, if they aren’t already in their nesting area (which a lot of the time they are) I can just get them up there with a banana. πŸ™‚

They seem like very happy chickens and happy chickens lay the tastiest eggs!!

So one of Luke’s co-workers has a bee hive in his vegetable garden and harvests their honey, so eventually we’re gonna trade him some eggs for some honey. And one of our neighbors has a bunch of fruit trees and grows a garden too, so we’re gonna trade him eggs for some of his stuff too. I just think that’s the best thing ever! Everyone benefits from situations like this and its awesome! Plus growing/producing your own food is just so freaking rewarding! I firmly believe that everyone should growΒ something.Β Even if it is just a few herbs in your window. πŸ™‚

So, Luke decided he needed to drive to STL to show off his truck to his dad, so he ended up leaving work early and we started making our way to his dads house. We’re currently still driving (but we’re almost there!), it’s been a good trip! This truck is damn comfortable!

We won’t be gone long though. We’re literally driving back home tomorrow. Haha like I said, Luke just wants to show off the truck.

Alrighty then! That’s all for today!

Happy Friday eve!!

~Ashley

Thursday Things

My dad signed us up Tuesday, so there’s no turning back now! This November he’ll be running his first half marathon and I’ll be running two half marathons in two days! That should be an interesting experience!

I think I’m up for the challenge though! Plus its pretty darn exciting that my dad and I are doing another race together and the fact that this will be the first of hopefully many half marathons that he will run! πŸ˜‰ It’s also pretty exciting that I have someone who actually wants to do these things with me! Not gonna lie, for the most part I do prefer to run alone, but I’m always open to run with other people anyway! Especially my family!

So like I mentioned on Monday, he’s been gearing up in preparation for half marathon training! On Sunday he got himself a legit pair of running shoes, an r8 roller, a bunch of Honey Stinger waffles, and a pair of compression socks, and on Tuesday, along with registering ups both for the Gobbler Grind, he got himself a Road ID (which I think is one of the most important pieces of gear you can own. I’ve got a whole post about what they are and why I think they’re important that you can read here πŸ™‚ ) and a bunch of badges for it.

So he should be pretty much set! Plus he has the added benefit of being able to talk to someone who’s done the whole half marathon thing, has been running for almost 5 years, and who is always reading, listening to podcasts, and talking to more experienced runners about the subject. Lucky him haha! Aside from all of the various resources I’ve mentioned I’ve been pretty much on my own with the whole running and half marathon-ing thing. Maybe one day I’ll hire a coach. At least that would take a lot of the guess work out of it. But I do kinda like flying solo. πŸ˜‰

As for me, well, I’m not too worried. At least not yet haha. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be able to pull off this stunt and when I do I’m pretty sure that’s just gonna be even more justification to myself that I absolutely need to run a full marathon, probably next year. πŸ˜‰ But we’ve still got a ways to go before we get anywhere near that territory.

Anyway, I’m a little bit annoyed right now. Earlier this week my neighbor let her daughter come over while she was really sick. Literally the first thing that kid said when she walked through my door was “I have a really bad cold.” Yup, after she said that I knew I’d be getting sick…and now, of course I am. It was really bad yesterday, but I seem to be improving a little bit today. My throat is pretty sore though and that’s super annoying. Plus I’ve been super crazy tired, so I didn’t run yesterday or today. I figured it was probably best to let my body rest.

I’m annoyed though because now Luke has also come down with it and had to come home early from work today. All of this could have been prevented if my neighbor would have just kept her kid at home. Or at least would have told me that the kid was sick when she asked if she could come over, because then I would have said no. Don’t get me wrong, I like my neighbors and I really don’t mind that her kid comes over all the time. She likes to hang out with me and play with all of our animals. But I don’t exactly think it’s cool to be sending your sick kid to someone else house so that she can infect everyone else. Like I said, now both Luke and I have it and it fucking sucks..

Especially since it’s really nice outside right now and there is a bunch of stuff we need to get done for the garden, the rabbits, the chickens, and whatnot and this evening would have been a good time to get a start on some of that because Luke doesn’t work tomorrow, but now we aren’t going to get a chance to take advantage of that or the nice weather (it’s supposed to rain on tomorrow, and then get kinda cold again on Saturday and Sunday) which sucks. I don’t know man, obviously I don’t have kids, but if I did I don’t think I’d be sending their sick asses around to infect the neighbors.

So yeah, did a whole lot of nothing yesterday. This morning I walked Lily since it was crazy nice out and I figured getting a little bit of vitamin D might help my situation a little bit. I’ve also been trying to drink more water today because I didn’t drink much yesterday. It’s super hard to motivate yourself to drink water when your throat hurts. Which is weird because right now cold stuff seems to be making my throat feel a little better, but I still don’t feel like drinking water. Haha bodies are weird. I’ve also been making a point to eat super well today. Trying to get lots of nutrients in to help my body fight off this thing as quickly as possible. I’m already tired of all of this “resting” nonsense, but I know I’ll probably get well faster if I do it. I just don’t really do the whole sitting around doing nothing thing well. Especially on really pretty days like today when I’d rather be outside.

Oh well. I can’t do much about it now, aside from what I’m already doing. Hopefully this illness wont stick around for too long because both Luke and I are already very tired of it haha.

Oh, but possible on the bright side, my Oiselle pocket jogger capris should hopefully be getting here tomorrow! There was a whole freaking debacle about that haha. I had originally ordered a pair on March 16th, but long story short, the UPS lost them and it took them 3 weeks to figure that out. Yeah, that was super annoying. But Oiselle’s customer service is pretty great and they refunded the order right away after the UPS officially declared them lost or whatever. So I re-ordered them last Friday and hopefully they’ll actually get here this time. If not I’m gonna have to make a point to not order anything online that ships via the UPS. This isn’t the first time I’ve had issues with the UPS but it’s been the worst by far. I really really want to try out Oiselle’s leggings though and this particular pair has ALL OF THE POCKETS! So fingers crossed that the UPS doesn’t fuck up a second time. I mean, what are the odds, right?

Alrighty then, that’s all for today! I’m gonna go back to wallowing in my own misery now. πŸ˜‰
