It’s not often that I get taken out of the game by a cold. Usually I’m able to run through the sniffling, sneezing, and coughing. Hell, sometimes a few easy miles even helps clear out my sinuses and makes me feel a little bit better! Not this time around though. I’m pretty sure this has been the worst cold that I’ve ever had in my entire life! It’s seriously been really awful!
I guess this whole ordeal started last Thursday, although at that point I didn’t realize that I was getting sick. I was feeling pretty tired and rundown but I didn’t really think much of it, especially since I got a pretty solid workout in that day. Honestly I just thought PMS had just come a few days early, which isn’t really unheard of, so I wasn’t worried about it. The next day I realized that whatever cold that Luke had gotten a few days before, and that’s been making it’s round all over this part of Kansas, had finally caught up with me. At that point I didn’t feel too terrible, but my throat was really dry and hurt really bad. I was actually kind of worried that I was coming down with strep because I has some weird yellowish bumps in the back of my throat, but I never got a fever and after a pint of chocolate Halo Top ice cream it started to feel much better. By then I was hoping that maybe I was in the clear and that this cold wasn’t going to be too bad. Oh how wrong I was…
So that was on Friday. I didn’t run that day because I thought that maybe rest and ice cream was going to be all I needed to start feeling better, but like I said, that was not the case. I woke up feeling like death on Saturday. This wasn’t just the normal stuffy nose, clogged sinuses, sneezing, feeling under the weather cold. This was a cold from hell.
I spend all of Saturday laying on the couch, reading, and not wanting to eat or drink anything. I had to though. My body was producing so much snot that I felt like I was constantly swallowing it and that was making me feel sick to my stomach. Eating helped little bit thought, even though at that point I felt like food was the most unappealing thing ever. And obviously you want to stay hydrated while you’re sick, and honestly I wasn’t doing that great of a job, but I tried. When I went to bed that night I was praying that I would feel a little bit better when I woke up because I was absolutely miserable, but that did not happen.
Yesterday was by far the worst day yet. I had a terrible sinus headache, my nose was leaking non stop (I went through more than half of a double roll of toilet paper), my chest was congested so I couldn’t stop coughing, my throat was raw and sore since I couldn’t stop coughing, my whole body ached, and I kept cycling between being really hot and really cold (even though I still didn’t have a fever). There was absolutely no way I was going to be able to run yesterday, even if I wanted to. Even sitting up for prolonged periods of time wore me out, and walking around or doing anything was pretty much out of the question. Seriously, this had been the worst cold I’ve ever had. And to top it all off, I ended up losing my voice last night and I could still barely talk this morning.
But it would appear that I’m finally on the upswing!!! I woke up feeling a little bit better today. My chest is still really congested though, so I’m still doing a lot of coughing, but I was able to run an easy mile! And it wasn’t even as slow as I thought it was going to be haha. I did have to walk up a hill because all of this gunk in my chest/nose made it a little bit difficult to breathe, but it was still a total win! Plus it helped clear out my nose and chest a little so I’m very happy about that! 🙂 🙂 🙂
So I’m very happy that I’m feeling a little bit better and was able to run today. I’m still planning on doing a lot of resting today and am probably going to try to nap after I make lunch, but I think I can manage a little bit of light housework after that. Whenever I’m out of commission things get really dirty around here hahaha.
Anyway, I hope you had a great weekend, mine kinda sucked but I’m just glad that I’m finally getting over the cold from hell.
