Weekly Recap: June 3rd-9th, 2019

So I’ve been following Blogilates for quite some time now. She was actually one of the first fitness YouTube channels I started watching and following along with back in 2012 when I stared losing weight and getting fit. I never participated in any of the challenges that she has done though. I just kinda used her videos and did my own thing with them.

But I’ve kinda fallen off from doing them, or any kind of strength training really. Which definitely isn’t good! It’s just that running is so much fun and I don’t want to do anything else! πŸ˜‚ But this June she’s putting on a 28 Day Summer Sculpt Challenge and I’ve decided to actually follow along with it! I’m hoping that it will kick my butt into gear and keep me motivated to get some strength work done! We’ll see how that goes. But as of right now, I’m pretty motivated to get it done! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ˜‰

Monday:

  • 3 miles
  • Day 1 of Blogilates 28 Day Summer Sculpt Challenge

3 more miles added to the ol’ leg bank! Nothing fancy. Nothing fun. Just went out there and got it done! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Followed that with day of of the Summer Sculpt Challenge. This one was a full body workout and it was tough! It was really good though! 😊

Also, more of my lilies are blooming and I love it!!

Tuesday:

  • 2 miles on the treadmill
  • Day 2 of Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge

Holy moly I woke up sore on Tuesday! Especially in my triceps. That was definitely a testament to how little strength work I’ve done lately. πŸ˜‚ It was nothing a few easy miles on the treadmill couldn’t work out though, so that was good!

Tuesday are dedicated to legs and butt for this challenge and the video was HARD. But it was also a ton of fun! I really enjoyed this one! πŸ˜„

Wednesday:

  • 3 miles
  • Day 3 of Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge

Was up bright and early on Wednesday morning! I like to get out the door before the sun is up and has heated up the asphalt adding just another layer of misery to to activity that is summer running. πŸ₯΅πŸ€£

Anyway, after my run I finished day 3 of the Summer Sculpt Challenge and then did a bunch of work in my garden. It was a productive day! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜„

  • Thursday:
    • 9 holes of golf

    Hahaha so I actually intended for Thursday to be a rest day. I was sore AF and just felt like I wasn’t recovering at all from the Summer Sculpt Challenge. There in lies the problem with working out every single day, I suppose.

    But when my husband got home from work and he wanted to play a quick 9 holes of golf. I was feeling better by that afternoon, so I figured why not! πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Plus after moving around a little bit on the golf course I started to feel a little bit better. πŸ˜„

    Friday:

    • 17 holes of golf

    On Friday Luke got me my own set of golf clubs! Yay!!

    Hahaha before I was just using his and they were not working for me. Men’s clubs are a little bit longer and heavier than women’s clubs so I wasn’t able to actually swing properly with his. Hence why he got me my own! πŸŒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

    So obviously we had to go golfing on Friday. πŸ˜‚ This time we had a group of 4 that included me, Luke, his brother from Minnesota who is currently staying with us, and his other brother who lives here in Kansas. So having 4 people slowed us down considerably! We were out on the course for what felt like FOREVER! It was fun at first, but it was hot, humid, and exhausting. Which is why we ended up skipping that last hole. 🀣🀣

    I did play a lot better with my new clubs though, so there’s that! Honestly though all this golfing is probably going to have to slow down for me soon though! Training for Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two starts soon and I want to actually be able to do that. Golfing in the heat just took waaaay too much out of me.

    Lol yeah, I sure look like I should be lined up at the starting line of a half marathon, not on a golf course. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

    Saturday:

    • 3.5 miles
    • Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge

    A failed attempt at a long run… Obviously I wasn’t happy about that. But for real, I was crazy tired and drained from being out in the heat and humidity for so long the day before. It wasn’t good….

    So after my run I made sure I spent the day rehydrating, and apparently my body really needed refueled because I was STARVING all day. So I just kinda rolled with it and tried to give my body what it needed. Luckily the Summer Sculpt Challenge video was just stretching on Saturday. I sure needed that too. But apparently mostly I just needed to sleep!

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

    After my failed long run yesterday I seriously considered trying to get some more miles in today. I had my gear all laid out and an alarm set, but when it came time to actually wake up I turned off my alarm and went right back to sleep. I ended up sleeping for about 9 and 1/2 hours and honestly it was great! I felt sooo much better after that!

    I actually kinda wanted to run this afternoon, but I figured if I wanted to run today but didn’t, I’d probably feel even better and want to run even more tomorrow. Hahaha but I guess we’ll have to wait and see about that though. I did spend a good amount of time walking dogs today though. πŸ˜„

    Total Weekly Mileage: 11.51

    Yeah, obviously this week didn’t go as planned. πŸ˜‚ But it wasn’t bad either! Honestly if I would have gotten my long run in I’d be a lot happier, but I am working on becoming a stronger athlete and learning a new sport, so I’ll take it!! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸŒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

    Weekly Recap: February 11th-17th, 2019

    Monday:

    • 4 miles
    • 10 minutes strength

    Kicked off my week with 4 easy miles! It was cold, rainy, and a little bit icy! I was worried the rain might turn into ice or make the roads super slick, but that never happened. Thank goodness!! I REALLY don’t want to spend as much time on the treadmill this week as I had to last week.

    Anyway, Monday evening my husband and I did a quick little arm routine together in our living room with some dumbbells. It might have been quick, but it was pretty hard! Luke wants to get a gym membership next month and hopefully in the evenings we’ll end up going! Hahaha he wants to strength train and so do I, but depending on how I feel I might also use it as an excuse to get in a couple more miles every day! πŸ˜‚ But we shall see.

    Tuesday:

    • 3 miles
    • 20 minutes of yoga
    • 10 minutes of strength training

    It was absolutely beautiful outside on Tuesday! Cold, sunny, and the ice on the roads was mostly gone! I loved it! 😊

    After my run I put in some time on my yoga mat and then that evening Luke and I did our little arm routine again. It was even harder on Tuesday than it was on Monday. πŸ˜‚

    Wednesday:

    • 2 miles

    I wasn’t feeling it on Tuesday. Physically or mentally. I had a sneaking suspicion that was gonna happen though. The night before my throat was feeling just a little bit scratchy and I’ve come to learn that means that my body is feeling stressed and I need to back off a little bit. So I decided to just go out and see what I could do. After about 1 very slow mile I was like β€œlol nope!”. So I turned around and slogged another mile home. Today was still definitely a success though! I ran and I did what I needed to do. πŸ™‚

    Listening to your body is key!! Sure your training plan might say you need to do a 5 miler with strides today. But if your body is telling you that it needs a little break then give it one. That, my friends, is how you stay healthy and injury free. It’s also a lesson that I really took to heart last year and I ended up completing a whole half marathon training cycle without getting sick or injured. That’s something that I had honestly never done before! But it’s definitely something that I’d like to keep doing. πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»

    Thursday:

    • 8 miles

    It was sunny and in the 50’s on Thursday morning. We we’re also under a winter weather advisory, which was kinda weird. πŸ˜‚

    So I ended up being super happy that I backed off and took it easy the day before. Listening to your body is important and I ended up feeling really good on Thursday. So good in fact that about 2.5 miles into what was originally going to be a 3-4 mile run I decided I was going to do my long run. I figured I might as well get it out of the way while I felt good and the weather was nice!! We had more ice and snow in the forecast for Friday and Saturday and I really didn’t want to end up doing my long run on the treadmill.

    So I didn’t. I got it in on the road and felt fantastic doing it!! Honestly this was the best long run I’ve done in a long time! It was pretty awesome! Hahaha and fueled by Honey Stinger and Body Armor because I wasn’t exactly prepared going into it. πŸ˜‚

    Friday:

    • Rest day

    Kinda hahaha. Luke and I were very busy on Friday! We had to grocery shop, run errands, get chicken feed and straw, all in the middle of a snow storm. Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive. πŸ˜‚

    We also ended up taking the dogs to the dog park. Since it was crazy cold and snowing no one was there. It was fantastic! The dogs got to run around and play in the snow to their heart’s content. This was actually the first time Whiskey had been the the dog park. She did really well!! 😊

    Saturday:

    • 3 snowy, slushy miles

    Yeah, I’m super glad that I did my long run on Thursday! It was kind sunny out on Saturday but the roads were still covered in snow and slush. Grant it I do love running in that kinda stuff, but it super hard! So I think it’s better suited for shorter runs! πŸ˜‚

    Sunday:

    • Rest day
    • 45 minutes of restorative yoga

    A real rest day this time!! Spent my day on the couch relaxing and resting. 😊 It was nice. Although if my legs weren’t so tired from running on snow yesterday I probably would have put in a few more easy miles. I’m getting a root canal done tomorrow so I definitely won’t be doing any running after that. I don’t know if any of you remember the whole tooth saga from last year, but my teeth are pretty shitty and my dentist has a while treatment plan written out. But it’s gonna take several years to get everything taken care of because dental work is expensive and we only have so much insurance. But oh well. At least I’m getting another one taken care of tomorrow! 😊

    Total Weekly Mileage: 20.16

    Woohoo! Another pretty good week of running for me! I felt AMAZING on my long run, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign for things to come for my upcoming races. I’ve got a 10k in Colorado in April and a 5k here in Kansas in May! I’m pretty stoked!!
