Friday Fives: Current Favorite Running Songs

It’s been a while since I’ve talked music, which is kinda crazy because it’s one of my all time favorite things to talk about haha. Anyways, I do most of my running with music because I think it makes running more enjoyable. I know there’s like, a whole debate about whether or not you should run with music and that some people take a really hard stance on one side or the other, but obviously I’m not one of those people. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Can I run without music? Absolutely! I even opt to do it sometimes!! But I do most of my running with music because I think it’s more fun. So here are 5 of my current favorite songs to run to!

1. If There Was Ever A Time – Armstrongsย

Ok but for real, if Tim Armstrong (from Rancid) and Billie Joe Armstrong (from Green Day) could just do a whole album together, that’d be great! That’s probably not going to happen though. Sad face…haha but at least we have this song. I love it. And I think anything by Rancid or Green Day is great to run to, and this song is no exception. ๐Ÿ™‚

2. The Sky Is A Neighborhood – Foo Fightersย

Holy cow! This song! This song is AMAZING!!!

Not gonna lie, I’ve never been a huge fan of the Foo Fighters. I mean, I’ve never disliked them or anything, but I’ve always just kinda been “meh” about them. I think this song has kinda changed my mind though. Every time I listen to it I tell myself I need to listen to the whole album all the way through and maybe one day I actually will! Anyway, I really like the place this song takes me whenever I run. It’s like a dreamy rhythm zone thing and it’s great!

3. Fabuless – Stone Sour

I’ve been listening to this song a lot ever since Luke and I saw Stone Sour in September. Actually, I’ve been listening to several Stone Sour songs since Luke and I saw them. But I think this one is my favorite! I especially like it for running because it’s nice and angryย  haha. Angry songs are pretty fun to run to, in my opinion. Especially for intervals or hill work.

4. Police On My Back – The Clash

This is one of my all time favorite running songs!! I think the rhythm is perfect for running and it’s a lot of fun to sing along to. Plus I mean, it’s The Clash! What’s not to like?!?!

5. Somewhere Now – Green Dayย

This song instantly became one of my favorites the first time I listened to it last October. And holy cow can we just talk about how crazy it is that Revolution Radio came out a year ago?! Anyway, I listen to this whole album a whole lot during the time I spend running and I tend to repeat Somewhere now once or twice because I just love it so much haha.

So there you have it! 5 of my current favorite running songs! What are some of you’re favorite songs to run to? I’m always looking for new to me music, so I’d absolutely love to hear what you like to listen to!!!

Anyways, that’s all for this Friday Fives. I hope you have a fantastic Friday!

Cherry Bombs, Steel Panther, And Stone Sour Live at the Midland in Kansas City, 9/26/2017

Oh man, this show! This show was….something.ย And I mean that in a really really good way!

So last week I got an email from the app I used to by Green Day tickets on earlier this year, about bands that were going to be playing in the area. I saw that Stone Sour was going to be playing at The Midland in Kansas City, so I mentioned it to Luke, since Stone Sour is his favorite band and because it’s been a while since they’ve been here, and the last time they were we had a chance to go, but Luke passed up on it! But after I told him he said he wasn’t sure if he wanted to go, because live shows just don’t seem all that exciting to him.

I guess he got curious about it though, because the next day he looked up ticket prices, saw that Steel Panther (a band that we’ve both been very into lately) was opening for them, and that sold him on going. Well, that and the fact that he figured out that he could get pretty sweet seats for pretty cheap! ๐Ÿ˜‰ So long story short, that’s how we ended up going to this show. ๐Ÿ™‚

So yesterday was the day of the show! Yay! The nice thing about finding out about this show a week beforehand was that we didn’t have to wait very long for it haha.

After Luke got off of work yesterday he drove home, changed and got me, we stopped at Sonic for dinner, and then drove 40 minutes to Kansas City. And I just need to say, the roads in KC are super weird and don’t make a lot of sense. Luke and I also think downtown Saint Louis is much more exciting than downtown KC, but I think we might be a little bit biased, considering we’re originally from the STL area ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, so we got into KC and had to drive around for a little bit to find a parking garage. Funnily enough, we accidentally ended up in the same garage that we parked in for the Green Day concert. It was a little bit farther away from the venue we were going to that night than a few other garages, but it was also less crowded. So we parked, walked two blocks to The Midland, and got in line at around 5:50 pm which was 10 minutes before the doors were supposed to open, and then we waited. 6:00 pm rolled around, the line was getting pretty long, and the doors sill weren’t open. 5 minutes went by and still nothing. And then 10. By then people were getting a little bit antsy. But finally they opened the doors 15 minutes late and everyone started filing in.

Luke and I had seat tickets in the balcony, so we didn’t have to rush in to get a good spot in the pit which was nice. Haha we’re not exactly pit people. It can get a little bit rowdy in there and by the end of the night we were really glad that we weren’t involved with all of that. Anyway, we went up to the balcony, bought some drinks, found our seats, and settled in to wait for the show to start.

The Cherry Bombs were the first act of the show and neither Luke or I had ever heard of them before. We both just kind of assumed that they were just some new band or something. But since we had some time to kill I looked them up and we were very wrong. Turns out they’re a group of professional dancers,ย aerialists, fire artists, hoopers, pole dancers, and singers. And boy were they awesome! Haha that was definitely an interesting was to start off a show! I didn’t get any photos of them, unfortunately.

img_6670

After Cherry Bombs performance Steel Panther came on stage to a crowed who was very ready to rock! If you don’t know who Steel Panther is, they’re a comedic band that basically makes fun of everything 80’s glam rock, metal, and pretty much anyone who takes themselves too seriously. Oh and they’re actually really fucking good. Like, aside from being hilarious, they can actually sing and play their instruments and its great! Luke and I were super stoked to see them play live, because we’ve been watching themย a lotย on YouTube lately, so it was pretty awesome to actually experience them for ourselves!

So for the most part it seems like opening bands only get to play a half an hour-ish set before the main act comes out, but they got to play for an hour and it was sooo much fun! Haha so it turns out Cory Taylor (the lead singer of Stone Sour) is a huge Steel Panther fan and has been supporting them since their first album. So that’s probably why they got a little more time, but everyone there was very into it. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I mean, how could you not be? They have some very lewd/sexual/drug filled lyrics, they told some really funny stories, and pulled a bunch of girls up on stage and several of them flashed the crowd. Like I said, it was a lot of fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

Luke and I decided that the place really filled during and right after Steel Panther’s set. I’ve never really understood why so many people don’t show up for the opening band, but the people who did last night missed out on a great time! But anyway,ย by the time Stone Sour came out the pit was packed and the balcony where we were sitting was pretty full as well. Honestly I was surprised that the show didn’t sell out, this was a pretty small venue, and small shows usually sell out really fast, but apparently Stone Sour isn’t as big of a band as I thought they were. Apparently Slipknot (Cory Taylor’s other band) is much more well known than Stone Sour is and I was just unaware of that until Luke told me last night. Haha but in my defense, this isn’t exactly the type of music I’m really into or follow, so I really don’t know much about it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_6701

Anyway, once most of the band made their way out onto stage the crowed went wild, Corey Taylor ran out last, but once he did, everyone lost their damn minds haha. But I mean, he is a very impressive singer, song writer, and front man, so I guess it was no surprise that people were excited to see him!

img_6710

So like I said, this isn’t the type of music or a band that I really pay a lot of attention to, so I’m not gonna go into a detailed song-by-song thing like I did for Green Day. Mostly because I didn’t know all of the songs hahaha. And there were a few songs that I knew, but didn’t know the names of. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s all good though. It was still a great time! Stone Sour is great live! They were energetic, had a good stage presence, and looked like they were having a great time too! Corey Taylor shot a confetti canon several times, threw lots of water bottles into the crowd, almost got into the pit at one point (his security guard didn’t look too happy about that), and encouraged people to sing along, not take themselves too seriously, and kinda egged the pit on when it started getting really rowdy.

img_6712

And oh boy did the pit get rowdy! It took them a little bit to get warmed up, but eventually they were all getting very much into it. It was very interesting to actually see people pushing and shoving each other (and I’m pretty sure they’re were some punches thrown to), but then pick each other up when they fell down. Haha and I mean, I have been in a semi rowdy pit before, but I’ve never got to witness it from above.

Anyway, they played a few older songs, and some songs that Cory Taylor said they hadn’t played in a long time. But like I said, I wouldn’t really know haha. But Luke seemed pretty impressed with their set list and was surprised about a few of the songs they played. ๐Ÿ™‚ So they ended up playing for a little over 2 hours I think? So this was a super long show! But we still managed to get out of the venue, to the parking garage, in the car, and all the way home in a pretty decent amount of time. It was about 11:45 pm by the time we got home. Not bad! On the way home Luke said that he was physically and emotionally exhausted, and went on about how awesome it was that he got to see Corey Taylor in person, be in the same room as his favorite band, and how close we actually were to them. So yeah, now he understands how I felt about seeing Green Day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_6717

Haha so we came home to some pretty pissed off dogs and cats. They get fed at 8 pm on the dot every night, but every once in a while whenever we do things like this, we just wait to do that until we get home and they hate it. Oh well, they got over it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And yeah, that was our night last night. It was great!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

And that’s all I’ve got for today, so happy hump day everyone!

Yay! Exciting Things!!!

Little girl ferret still has no name (check out this post if you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), but I’ve loved all of the suggestions so far! Keep them coming guys!! At some point Luke and I are gonna make a list and narrow it down from there.

Anyways, on Tuesday I found out that Stone Sour, which just so happens to be Luke’s favorite band, will be in Kansas City on the 26th. So obviously I told him about it. But he wasn’t sure about going because it’s on a Tuesday night and he has to be up pretty early the next day for work. But then on Thursday while he was at work he texted me, saying he had something important to talk about and that he’d been thinking about it for a while. Haha because you know, he has to be super dramatic about it instead of just coming right out and saying what he has to say. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So I asked him what and he sent me a picture of he’s online receipt thingy for the tickets he bought.

img_6571

So that’s super duper exciting!! I mean, I like Stone Sour and all but they’re definitely not my favorite (we all know who my favorite is and we just saw them in August. You can read about that here and here. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I just love going to concerts! Plus I’m so freaking stoked for Luke! This will be the first time that he’s seen his favorite band live and I’m ridiculously happy for him!! Plus it looks like Steel Panther will be opening for them! If you don’t know who Steel Panther is, go look them up right now! They are fucking amazing!!! So yeah, it should be a pretty awesome show! Not as good as Green Day’s concert obviously, but I’m sure Luke will disagree with me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah, I’m literally never going to get over how awesome my second experience of seeing Green Day live, in concert was, so here are some photos! For like, the 8th billion time! I CAN’T HELP IT THEY”RE MY FAVORITE!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyways, I know a decent amount of Stone Sour songs, but I figured I should probably listen to their new album all the way through, since we are seeing them live and all. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So, I did that yesterday morning and then again today while I picked up around the house and then while I used my stationary bike. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_6595

Anyway, I probably definitely should have run this morning but I was up until around 1 am last night, ended up waking up late, and by then the sun was up and it was pretty hot/humid. Any you know me, I’m the biggest wimp in the world when it comes it the heat. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Oh well, at least I biked for a little bit. And next week I’m going to make a point to work on getting back into my running routine and hopefully start working on building back up enough fitness to be able to run the Longview half marathon in November! Well, that’s assuming that my knee is even healed enough for that, but it’s been feeling pretty great so I think it just may be. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today! Happy second day of fall! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
