Weekly Recap: May 7th-13th, 2018

This week was a good week. I’ve been having a little bit of trouble with my neighbor’s dog, Ozzy, but other than that, I’ve really got nothing to complain about! Well, except for the warm weather maybe, but we all know I’m never going to stop complaining about that. 😉

Had some good runs, got my monthly StrideBox, my garden is growing and doing well, as are my chickens, and did one of my favorite races ever on Saturday. Like I said, it’s been a good week. 🙂

Monday:

  • 4 miles

Kicked off the week with 4 hot and sunny miles! Obviously that’s not my favorite kind of weather, but I still had some fun.

img_1510-1

Tuesday:

  • 5 miles
  • 10 minutes of yoga

Tuesday was the day I had the most issues with Ozzy. When I woke up that morning I let the chickens out as usual, then went to eat breakfast. About a half an hour later I happened to look in my backyard and there was Ozzy, bothering the poor chickens. So I caught him, put him in his yard, fixed some of the bricks that were covering the holes next to the fence we share with this neighbor (we’re currently in the process of replacing it, so it’s in terrible shape right now), then headed out for my run. After about 3 miles I happened to run by my house and saw that Ozzy was in my yard again. So I had to stop, repeat the whole process again, and then went out and finished my last 2 miles. But of course when I finished that Ozzy was back in my yard again. So this time I put even more bricks in the holes by the fence and lined the outside of my chicken coop with them. He’s been trying to dig under it, so I’m hoping at the very least the bricks will slow him down enough for someone to realize he’s not where he’s suppose to be before he can hurt my chickens.

But anyway, at least I got my run in, and got some strength training done because dead lifting a 30 pound dog over a fence multiple times has to count for something, and moving all of those bricks around was hard haha.

Wednesday:

  • 4 miles

Another easy 4 miler on Wednesday. This time Ozzy stayed in his yard and Dean was waiting to great me when I got back! Nothing is better than getting ALL OF THE PUPPY LOVIN’ when you get back from a run. 🙂

img_1553

Thursday:

  • rest day

I had 2 easy miles planned for Thursday but oh man was I tired! So I figured taking a rest day was probably a good plan. I actually ended up spending most of the day reading/finishing Cujo. Can you believe this was legit the first time I’ve ever read Cujo?!? Stephen King is my all time favorite author and it took me this long to read one of his most iconic books? That’s just nuts! Haha and I talk about that more here, if you’re interested. 😉

Thursday was one of the packet pick up days for Running With The Cows, so I went to get mine that evening. How super neat is this t-shirt?!?

Friday:

  • 15 minutes of stretching

So, Friday’s tend to be the day Luke and I run around and do a bunch of errands, and this Friday was no different. In the morning we had to meet with our insurance agent to go over all of our policies. Fun Stuff. Then the rest of the day was actually spent getting the truck titled. First we had to take it to get inspected since Luke bought it in Missouri, then we had to wait at the DMV for 8 million years haha. We ended up getting so bored that we wandered around the building, found a blood pressure machine,so obviously we had to play with that. Good news is we both have good blood pressure!

When we finally got home that evening I did some stretching and got all of my stuff ready for Running With The Cows. 🙂

Saturday:

  • Running With The Cows 5k

I had so much fun at this race!!!

I had a goal time of 38 minutes for it, but it was hot, humid, and this course is a bit hilly, so I ended up running it in 38:51. Not bad though! I’m very happy with how it went!! I’ll be posting a full recap on Monday, so stay tuned for that. 🐄🏃🏻‍♀️😄

Sunday:

  • rest day

I actually thought about doing a few easy miles today, but running in the heat yesterday really took it out of me! Plus my legs were a little sore from running hard on those hills. So I figured I could use a day off from running. I did spent some time cleaning out the rabbit cages today, cleaning out the chicken coop, and pulling a few weeds out of the garden, so at least I got a little bit of something done. 🙂

img_1648

Total Weekly Mileage: 16.15

Considering the fact that I didn’t do a long run this week I’m pretty happy with that! Definitely not what I want to be and should be running, but still not bad. All in all I’m quite happy with how this week is gone and how well Running With The Cows went. But now that I’ve got that done it’s time to really kick into gear my “pre half marathon” training. I’m going to be focusing on more miles and strength training. I feel like being stronger and more resilient is going to help with the whole two half marathons in two days thing that’s going down in November. So bring it on!!

Oh and happy Mother’s Day you all of you awesome moms out there! You guys are true superheros!!

Until next time,

Thursday Things

Woke up early this morning, briefly considered doing my run, very quickly decided “fuck that”, and went back to bed. Haha I was just really tired. 😉 But I only had an easy 2 mile run planned for today, so I figured skipping it wasn’t a big deal.

Once I did finally get up I ended up spend way too much time scrolling through all of my social media. Jeez that is a really good way to lose a good chunk of your time haha. But I did get to see a few of the cows that are going to be hanging out at the Running With The Cows starting line area and I was pretty excited about that! How adorable are these two?!? I’m very excited about seeing them on Saturday!

img_1572

Obviously this isn’t my photo. I screen shot it from the Running With The Cows facebook page.

Luckily I didn’t end up wasting my whole day on the social media. That’s crazy easy to do haha! Eventually I got up and got some stuff done. I cleaned the ferret cage while they ran around for a while, and then did some stuff in the garden. Mostly just watered it, but I pulled out a few weeds too haha. Everything out there is looking pretty good right now though! Before too long we’re gonna have a bunch of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggs, and all sorts of other good stuff. 🙂 I’m very excited about that!

After the ferret cage was clean and the garden was watered I took Lily and then Dean for a walk, worked on a few blog posts, started some laundry and general tiding of the house, and then I sat down with another cup of coffee and the book Cujo. Can you believe this is legit the first time I’ve read Cujo?!? Stephen King is my all time favorite Author and he has been since I was in like, 7th grade. The first ever “grown up” book I read was The Stand. 2 whole shelves on my huge book shelf are dedicated to and are absolutely overflowing with his books. But still, this is the first time I’ve read Cujo haha. But I mean, I’ve seen the movie about 8 billion times so I always reached for anther one of his books whenever I would go to get one. I’ve also never read Carrie or Pet Sematary. Pretty crazy, right? But again, I’ve seen both of those movies about 8 billion times as well. But since I’ve finally gotten around to Cujo I’ll eventually get to Carrie and Pet Sematary as well. I mean, the book is always better than the movie anyway. 😉

Friday Fives: Birthday Wishlist

Yay! My birthday is next month!! I’m gonna be a whole 26 years old. Fun times! 🙂 Haha so I figured why not share 5 things from my birthday wishlist, because not gonna lie, I couldn’t think of anything else I wanted to write about for this “Friday Fives” post hahaha.

So pay attention family and friends who might be reading this! I know I’m pretty terrible at giving you guys gift ideas (I’ve been told this several times by many different people hahaha). So here you go! 5 specific things that I want/could use. 🙂

1. Thick Socks

First off, I love getting socks as gifts! My feet are always super cold in the winter and I’m really good at wearing holes into socks, so I always need new ones. But I like the super, crazy, super thick and warm ones for the winter months! They keep my piggies nice and cozy and prevent them from freezing off on our hardwood floors.

Also, yes, I do prefer men’s socks. They’re usually thinker and last a lot longer (not sure why that is). And I know that spending $12 on a single pair of socks might seem a bit crazy (the socks that are pictured below are my favorite brand and run around $12 at Bass Pro Shop) but trust me, it’s worth it!!

2. A New Hoodie

Since my new one was ruined in a conflict between my dog and some other dog who’s asshole owner was letting it run loose. Also preferably a men’s hoodie. I don’t like women’s hoodies. They are always too short and ride up and it’s super annoying…

Anyway, this Green Day one is a good one! Albeit kind of expensive.

3. All Of The Cute Headbands/Bows/Hair Clips

My hair is currently at a super awkward length. Headbands/bows/hair clips help. 😉 Hottopic has some pretty good ones.

4. Sleeping Beauties

Stephen King and his son Owen King co-authored this book together. I MUST READ IT!!! And I mean, Stephen Kind is my all time favorite author anyway, so either way I was gonna have to read it. 😉

5. Honey Stinger Waffles

A strange thing for one to ask for for their birthday? Perhaps. But these are my go-to running fuel and I could always use them!! 🙂

Alright, I am aware and fully acknowledge that that was a super lame “Friday Fives” but hey, they can’t all be winners haha. 😉 Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Friday and a fantastic weekend!

Friday Fives: Things I’m Super Into Right Now

1. Green Day

Maybe it’s not exactly fair to say that I’m super into Green Day right now. I’m always super into Green Day. Hence the tattoo pictured below. 😉 But I mean, I kinda have to mention them, since Luke and I are seeing them for the second time a week from today! I seriously cannot wait!! Let super duper fan girl mode commence!!! 🙂

2. The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King

Again, I’m not entirely sure this one counts as Stephen King is my favorite author and the Dark Tower Series is my all time favorite book series. But since the Dark Tower movie is coming out well, today actually haha, Mr. King has been tweeting/Facebook-ing quite a bit about it and that made me want to re-re-re-re-re-re read the series haha. And at some point I’d like to go see the movie, but I’ll probably just end up watching it on Netflix/dvd whenever it ends up getting released on one of those.

img_5283

3. My Homegrown Tomatoes

Yeah, I’m into my own thing right now. What of it? 😉 Seriously though, my tomatoes are all starting to get ripe and I’ve been picking at least 5-6 everyday, so obviously I’ve been eating a lot of tomatoes. I’m not complaining though, they’re sooooo good!! 🙂

img_5211

4. The Run, Selfie, Repeat, Podcast

I guess I’m jumping onto the Kelly Roberts bandwagon a little late, but I have kind of a bad habit of resisting getting into things that are super popular. But I’ve been binge listening (that’s a thing, right? haha) to her podcast and I can see why she’s so popular in the running world. She’s super motivating and real and I can definitely get on board with that! If you’re looking for a new podcast I definitely recommend checking this one out (if you haven’t already, that is. 😉 ).

img_5291

5. StrideBox

So at this point I’ve only gotten 2 StrideBoxes at this point (and in the sake of total transparency, StrideBox sent them to me for free), but I absolutely love this subscription box!

So I think I’ve said it here before, but I was always a little unsure about subscription boxes. I mean, I was kinda worried that they wouldn’t live up to all of the hype but StrideBox definitely has! It comes packed with products from well established brands along with products from new or not as well known brands, which I think is fantastic! I’m all for supporting small/new companies so this is a great way to learn about them! It’s also a great way for me to try out new things. I’m kind of a creature of habit and don’t tend to stray from things I know, so that means I don’t often try new things haha. Also, I really like the sticker that comes in every box and the little card that contains a recipe and workout. I think that’s pretty spiffy!!

May 9th, 2017

Never in my life has a cold fucked me up the way this one has. It’s seriously been terrible. My voice is still really hoarse (I’ll add the link to my vlog from today below, if you want to hear how bad it is), my chest is still really congested, I’m coughing and hacking, my nose is still stuffy, and I still don’t feel all that great…

https://vid.me/pjV9

On the bright side, I do feel quite a lot better today! Much better than I felt over the weekend! I’m still doing my best to rest, eat lots off fruits and veggies, and hydrate. Which is actually going a lot better than it was over the weekend, because now I actually want to eat and drink. 🙂

I also got in another short, slow “run” (there was quite a bit of walking done, for only doing a mile) this morning. These short easy runs have really helped clear out my nose and chest, but I’m still not up for doing much more than a mile yet and the warm weather sure isn’t helping. It was a little over 70 degrees when I finally hit the pavement today. I do need to start waking up before the sun gets up. That will make running feel a little better, but right now I’m just focusing on getting enough rest so that I can get over this damn cold. Then I’ll start worrying about waking up at 5 am, and getting back to a more normal running scheduled.

Processed with Rookie Cam

Anyway now that I’ve run and showered I guess I’m going to continue resting. All this sitting around is kinda driving me stir crazy, but I know it’s what my body needs right now, so I’m going to do it. I’ve started re-reading The Stand for the 8 billionth time, so that should help keep me busy. Yesterday I spent some time outside on my back porch reading, trying to get rid of my terrible running shoe tan lines, and soaking up some vitamin D. So I think I’m off to do do that again. I feel like helped a bit. And the ridiculous amount of blueberries that I ate yesterday probably helped a little bit too haha. Yay vitamin C and antioxidants!! 😉

Wishing you a terrific Tuesday!!!

Thursday Things

Guys! Have you seen the new Honey Stinger waffle flavors yet?!? I had heard they were coming out with new flavors for this spring, but I hadn’t heard what they were until a few days ago; chocolate mint, and vanilla and chocolate!! I’m for real super duper excited about these things! Chocolate mint is pretty much my favorite flavor of anything ever, and rumor has it that the vanilla and chocolate waffles taste like s’mores. How neat is that?!

I’m not sure when they’ll be available though. Their blog is a little bit vague about that; stating that they will be available for sale this spring at select stores, and on their website, along with Amazon.com. But whenever they become available to purchase, I’m definitely going to be trying them!

img_2248

So, is daylight savings still messing with anyone else? Because I’m still adjusting to springing forward an hour. Ever since we did I’ve had trouble waking up, and this morning I woke up an hour later than I usually would have. Except not really, because technically it was the exact time I would have woken up before the time change. I’m sure I’ll adjust in a few more days, it’s just not a fun process haha.

Since I woke up an hour later than I wanted to, I ran an hour later than I would have liked. It’s not like I had anything to be late for or even really planned for today, but I do like to stay somewhat on a scheduled, and I actually want to start running earlier in an effort to get used to getting out there earlier. Because before I know it I’ll be getting up and out the door before the sun comes up. I’m definitely not looking forward to that, but it’s totally necessary in the summer…Anyway, my run today was just an easy 30 minutes. Initially I really didn’t want to do it (probably because of the daylight savings thing), but I ended up feeling really good and had fun, so I’m glad I did. 🙂

img_2259

I started out my run with a light jacket on, but near the end I had to take if off and finished the last 10 minutes or so in just a tank top. I guess the few cold days we’ve had and the light snow that happened on Tuesday was just winter’s last little hurrah. Here in Kansas, the highs for the rest of the week are supposed to be in the low to mid 60’s, and the high on Sunday is supposed to be 80 degrees. So I guess that means Luke and I should be good to get our garden started this weekend. I suppose at the very least we can get everything tilled and then I can start planting whenever I see fit. I don’t really need Luke’s help with that, but I when it comes to tilling I sure do! Haha I don’t like using our tiller because it vibrates really bad and that makes my arms go numb, so I just make Luke do it. But in all fairness, I end up doing most of the weeding, watering, pest control, and what not, so it all works out quite nicely. 🙂

Speaking of warmer weather; I saw this little gem on…Facebook? Instagram? I don’t remember exactly (although I did re-post in on Instagram 😉 ), but I thought it was something most runners can relate to! I’ve already got pretty awesome sports bra, shoe, and watch tan lines going on, and it’s only the middle of March! They’re going to end up being sooo much worse by the end of the summer! Especially since I’m going to be spending a week or so in Florida in July. Ah the joys of being a runner.

img_2260

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m actually kinda proud of my tan lines. They just prove I’ve put in a lot of work  over the summer. 🙂

Along with my awesome tan lines, I’m also sporting a super spiffy bruise on my leg. I obtained said bruise by walking into a table at some point over the weekend (I wanna say Sunday morning, but I don’t remember for sure). You read that right. I walked into a table, and bruised my leg. Pretty badly too! It was even swollen for a few days after leg met table. Luckily my klutzy-ness didn’t cause me to miss out on any running, because it totally has before! Once I was doing handstands back when I lived in an apartment, and smacked my foot on the low part of the ceiling that separated the living room from the kitchen. My foot swelled up enough that I couldn’t walk properly for a few days, let alone run. So at least I didn’t have some kind of weird repeat of that.

Processed with Rookie Cam

Oh! And another time, when I was in second grade, I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing and stepped barefoot onto a pitchfork. It went all the way through my toe. ALL THE WAY THROUGH!! Yeah that was the day I learned to always wear shoes in barns and to watch were I step. I still have the scar to prove it too!

img_2265

Obviously it’s really old so it’s pretty faded, but you can still kinda see it there next to my thumb. Also, just ignore that cat hair. I am literally always covered in dog/cat hair…

I could name about 8 million other dumb ways that I’ve ended up getting hurt. Honestly it’s pretty impressive that I’ve managed to make it through 25 years of life without dying (although I have had my brushes with death. The first when I was born and the second when my appendix ruptured, but those are really long stories for another day). Haha it’s instances like the ones I’ve just mentioned that are the reason that Luke wouldn’t let me get up on the roof and take down our Christmas lights in January. I probably really would have fallen off or something. I am a terrible klutz.

On an unrelated note (but seriously, when is anything I ever talk about in a “Thursday Things” post related anyway?), you guys, I NEED book recommendations!!! I’m desperately tying to drag myself out of the safe little Stephen King and running related book hole that I currently reside it, but it’s not going well. Last Friday Luke and I went to Barne’s and Noble, spent over an hour there, and I eventually settled on one book which I’m super disappointed with. It sounded really cool, but I’m really having trouble getting into the story. Plus some of the things that are going on just seem super unbelievable to me. And I mean, Stephen King made me feel like a weird clown/alien thing really did reside in the sewers under Derry, Maine. So I kind feel like I’m not the problem here…

Haha Luke told me that my problem is that I got introduced to a really good author at a young age (I started reading Stephen King novels in 7th grade), have been very dedicated to that author, and now nothing else is going to live up to my expectations. I am very determined to prove him wrong though! So seriously, whats your favorite book? Or what are you currently reading? I wanna know!!

Alrighty then! I feel like I’ve rambled on enough for today, so I’m going to stop before I get even more out of control. 😉

Happy Friday/St. Patrick’s Day eve, everyone! Stay safe out there and have fun with any festivities that you planned! 🍀

My Weekend In Colorado

I know I’ve already talked a little bit about my adventures in Colorado over the weekend with my family (here, here, and here 😉 ), but they were kinda short, sweet, and to the point, since I was so busy and pretty exhausted at the end of everyday. So I thought I’d take some time today to write down in detail what went down while I was there. 🙂

So this whole thing kinda started a week or so before the actual trip. My mom texted me, telling me that my brother and his friend would be stopping at my house on the 16th of February, because they were going to her apartment in Colorado. Obviously I told her that was fine. The next day she texted me again, asking me if maybe I could come with them. At the time I wasn’t sure if I could, since Luke and I had plans to start working on the garden over the weekend. So I told her maybe next time.

Over the next few days Luke spent a lot of time telling me that I should go visit my family and that he was capable of taking care of himself for a few days. So on Thursday before my brother and his friend started their drive from Illinois to Kansas, I asked if they minded if I hitched a ride with them, but not to tell our mom or dad. They said they didn’t care and that they wouldn’t, so I started getting everything ready for our trip.

They got to my house at around 7 pm on Thursday. We kinda hung out for a while and watched some YouTube series that they like, while Luke and his brother went to play pool for a little bit. When they got home from the bar they challenged us to darts. I already knew I was pretty good at darts, but we learned that my brother is also a natural dart player. It must run in the family haha. So I played/watched a few games, then went to bed around 11 pm, warning my brother and his friend that I’d be waking them up around 7 in the morning.

Unfortunately my plan to go to bed at a decent time didn’t exactly work out well. I ended up laying in bed unable to fall asleep until around 12:30. Apparently the boys didn’t get to bed until 1:30, but we were all up and moving at 7 am., then on the road by around 7:20. 🙂

The drive from my house in Kansas to my parents’ apartment in Colorado is about 10 hours long (including stops for gas/snacks/bathroom breaks). Oh man, that is a brutal car ride! Especially since western Kansas/eastern Colorado isn’t exactly the most exciting place, as far as landscapes go. I am super impressed with my brother though! He drove the whole way there! Which probably sucked, because we were riding in my mom’s car, and it’s not exactly the most comfortable car to drive for long periods of time. Once I had to drive it for 4 hours and my hips started to hurt, my feet were falling asleep, and I basically wanted to die haha. But my brother did it for 10 hours without complaining once! Maybe it’s because he’s 18 and stubborn haha. 😉

Luckily my brother and his friend are pretty cool, so we spent a lot of time joking around and showing each other amusing memes and other funny stuff from the internet. I also spent some time texting both of my sisters. Mostly to tell them not to tell my mom and dad that I was coming with my brother and his friend, but I was also making plans to visit my sister who lives about 2 hours away from my parents.  But unfortunately on a 10 hour car ride there is still a lot of quite time, and some of the miles just drug on and on and on…

img_1628

We finally made it to my mom and dad’s apartment around 4 pm (I think, I don’t remember exactly) Colorado time. While we were walking up the stairs of the apartment building I told the boys to be really quite and show me which apartment was my mom and dads, because they still had no clue that I was coming. After the pointed me to the right door, I started knocking in the most obnoxious way ever. My mom answered the door looking super duper confused, because my brother and his friend would have just walked in, and she wasn’t expecting anyone else. But once she realized it was me, she literally screamed and started hugging me. Their dog was also super excited to see me, which was kinda weird because he really hasn’t spent any significant amount of time with me, but whatever, I’d rather a 130 pound dog be excited to see me instead of being mad that I was in his territory haha.

img_1652

Anyway, once all of the excitement died down we kinda sorta started making plans on what we were going to do the next day, since my brother and I both wanted to leave on Sunday. Then my dad had to go to work, and my mom took us out for dinner and some shopping. Not gonna lie, I wasn’t all too excited to be out and about in the busy city that they live in, but I guess it wasn’t that bad. 😉 The restaurant that we ate dinner at was really good! My dad told me I needed to get some kind of Irish burger that they had (I don’t remember what he called it) but after eating a bunch of junk food in the car all day I was really craving some veggies, so I got a Greek salad instead.

img_1655

After we ate, we went to a really awesome used book store! My mom bought me two Stephen King books for $4. How freaking neat is that?! Then my mom wanted to show me this candy shop she really likes. We sent a little bit of time wandering around because she couldn’t remember exactly where it was, but we eventually found it. The candy shop was pretty exciting! They had all sorts of novelty gifts and fun gummies. My mom got me a gummy pig! Not gonna lie, it wasn’t the best gummy I’ve ever had, but it was cute. 🙂

26a20634-7259-415c-b98c-c41a2394e1df

After our shopping adventure we headed back to the apartment. My mom and I went to walk around the trail that is near their apartment, while my brother and his friend played video games. They sure missed out on a really beautiful evening! The trail went around a lake and you could see the mountains in the distance. That was much more my style! We didn’t make it all the way around the lake because Niko was getting tired and crabby (I’m not kidding, that dog gets tired fast!), but it was still a nice little walk. And I’m not gonna lie, I’m kinda glad we didn’t go the full 3.5 miles around the lake. At that point the elevation change was really starting to kick my ass!

After our walk I took a quick shower, then went grocery shopping with my mom. First we went to a farm and home supply store for dog food (I can’t for the life of me remember the name on it) while we were there she noticed the holes in my leggings so she found and bought me a new pair. Haha she’s just awesome like that. Then we went to walmart to get food for the next day, and some other random stuff that she needed. It seems like every time I’m with my mom we somehow end up going to walmart…Whatever. After that my mom and I painted for a little bit while my brother’s friend showed us some more memes, then we finally went to bed! I guess Niko was still super excited that I was there, so he kept licking my face to wake me up. At around 2 am I took him outside, but he didn’t want to pee, he just wanted to hang out outside…So I had to drag his 130 pound ass up the stairs and back inside. He finally left me alone after that, but it really sucked that I didn’t get much sleep that night. Especially since my dad woke me up at 6:45 on Saturday morning.

Waking up that early after a really bad night of sleep really sucked, but in the end it was totally worth it! My dad ended up taking me and my brother’s friend to hike up Rabbit Mountain. It took us about 2 and a half hours to climb to the very top (it was about a mile up and a mile down), but we stopped a lot to take pictures, admire the scenery, and take one short snack break. Plus we took Niko with us, and like I said before, he gets really tired really fast, so several times he had to sit down and take breaks haha. I didn’t mind though, the elevation was still bothering me a little bit, but not as much as it had the day before.

img_1724

I think hiking up Rabbit Mountain was my favorite part of the trip. It was so much fun! Plus I’ve been dying to see more of Colorado because it’s such a beautiful place, and I had never been to Rabbit Mountain before. I wish we could have done more hiking, but my dad was up working the whole night before, so he needed to get back home and sleep. (The rest of my photos from Rabbit Mountain are here, if you’re interested. 🙂 ).

By the time we got back to the apartment, my sister was waiting there with her 7 month old German Shepherded, Moose, and 3-year-old “Alaskan Husky”, Tidus (he’s part Husky and part Greyhound. Apparently people who are into dog sled races really like that combination of breeds. Oh and he’s actually from Alaska, which is neat). She and my mom thought I would really enjoy Estes Park, so they took me there while my dad slept and I’m not entirely sure what my brother and his friend did haha.

So, we didn’t really spend a lot of time there because all of the people were making Moose really nervous and he kept barking at everyone. But we did walk around for a little bit and I got to see the Stanley Hotel, which is where Stephen King wrote The Shining! That was really awesome! Some day I’d really like to stay there and explore a little more, but I’m really glad I got to see it. Even in the small amount of time that we spent there I could see where he got some ideas for The Shining, so that was pretty neat. 🙂

img_1762

Before we left my mom and I got lunch at a little diner type thing. They had a mac and cheese sandwich on the menu, so obviously I had to try that! It was sooooo good!!! Best food decision I’ve ever made. 😉

img_1774

After we got our food we drove back to my mom and dad’s apartment, walked Niko, Tidus, and Moose around for a little bit, then I went home with my sister. Her house is two hours away from my mom and dad’s and we had to drive through Denver to get there, but it actually wasn’t too bad of a drive. She was worried about traffic going through Denver, but it really never got too bad.

My sister’s husband is in the army (and was just recently deployed to Poland) so they live on a military base. They actually lived in Alaska for 3 years before moving to Colorado last year, so I was super excited to see my sister’s house, since I never had a chance to visit her in Alaska. Plus it was kind interesting to get a little peek into how the military and their families live.

Anyway, after we got to her house we let her dogs out, ate a quick snack, then went to walmart because she needed to get some groceries. Haha I don’t know what it is about my family, but it seems like every time any of us get together, we end up at a walmart…After she got what she needed we hung out and her house for a while, just catching up and watching Futurama. Later in the evening she wanted to get some Sushi, so we went to King Super to get some. Unfortunately I can’t eat fish anymore, so I got some Halo Top ice cream instead. 😉 After that we spent the rest of the night just hanging out and playing with her dogs. It was nice.

So staying at her house was a great decision! All of her pets are really well-behaved and quite, so they actually let me sleep that night haha. And the next morning when she let her dogs out of her bedroom, Moose saw me sitting on the couch and jumped right up into my lap. Apparently he really likes me.

Me, Moose, and Tidus.

So like I mentioned before, my brother and I wanted to leave on Sunday, but my dad was off work and he wanted to take me to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo the feed the giraffes. So since that’s super close to my sister’s house, they drove there, and then my sister drove us all to the zoo.

The first thing we did was feed the giraffes like my dad wanted to. I gotta admit, that was really neat! No zoo that I’ve been to have anything like that (although the Kansas City zoo is supposedly going to build something similar in the next 5 ish years).

When we were done making friends with the giraffes we walked around for a while, just looking at all the animals. Then we went back to the car, made some sandwiches with the food that we’d brought, then went back into the zoo and saw everything else that we wanted to see. Most importantly; the tiger because they are my sister’s favorite, the elephants because they’re neat, and the wolves because my dad and I both think they are really awesome! Plus no other zoo I’ve been too has wolves, but unfortunately they weren’t out when we went to them. Apparently the female was in heat so they were being very elusive. Ah well, it was still a fun adventure!

We got back to my sister’s house from the zoo around 3 pm. I grabbed all my stuff from her house, said goodbye, then my mom, dad, and I drove 2 hours back to their apartment. Once we got their I showered, ate dinner, packed all of my stuff into my mom’s car, and tried to take a quick nap, because my brother wanted to leave at midnight. The whole napping thing was unsuccessful, so I ended up watching a movie with my mom and dad. After the movie my dad went to bed for the night and my mom went with him to try to nap before we left. So I was left in the living room with Niko.

We just kinda hung out for a while, until he started barking out the open sliding glass door at a dog that was being walked downstairs. I guess that woke my brother up, because not long after that he and his friend packed their stuff into the car, then went to get gas. A few minutes later my mom got up and started making food for the trip, so that we wouldn’t have to buy any. 10 minutes later my brother and his friend were back, so we packed up the car, my dad got up to tell us all goodbye, and then we were on the road by 11:30 pm.

The ride back to Kansas was a little bit better than the ride there. Probably because I tried to sleep for a good majority of it. I never actually fell into a deep sleep though, and I got up about every hour, but I can’t even complain about that, because yet again, my brother drove the whole time. Around the time we had two hours left in the car the sun was up and everyone in the car was awake for good. Luckily those last two hours seemed to fly by and before I knew it we were pulling into my drive way.

The original plan was for my mom, brother, and his friend to stay and nap at my house for a while, but after I had made my brother lunch he wanted to get back on the road again and finish the last 4 hours of the drive they had, so that’s what they did. 4 hours after they left I got a text from my mom saying they had made it home. I don’t know how my brother drove 14 hours on a very small amount of sleep, but he did it! And with no “close calls” or “almost accidents” either. I am very much impressed.

There! I feel like that’s a much better summary of what went down in Colorado, compared to the other super short posts that I wrote about it while I was actually there. I am officially satisfied and I hope I didn’t bore you too much. Haha this post ended up being a lot longer than I thought it was going to be!

Until next time!
