Weekly Recap: December 11th-17th, 2017

Monday:

  • 1.5 miles

Ugh, by Monday I was starting to feel really tired. I was still kind of in denial about why though, so I did 1.5 miles to keep the streak alive.

img_8320

Tuesday:

  • 1 mile

On Tuesday I made the very poor decision of putting spinach in my smoothie. That was a really bad idea and I explain all of that here. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I spent most of Tuesday morning stuck on the couch with stomach cramps and the only relife I could get was from a REALLY hot heat pack. I’ve still got a few red marks on my stomach haha. But I still got in a mile!

img_8340

Wednesday:ย

  • 2 miles
  • 30 Day Shred Day 5
  • 10 minutes of yoga
  • 40 minutes on the stationary bike

By Wednesday I was getting really frustrated. I couldn’t run as far as I wanted. As I knew I could! I was tired, I sore, and upset. It seemed like nothing was helping my tired legs and I was beginning to think that my streaking days might be over.

Thursday: The Day My Streak Died

  • Rest Day

On Thursday I woke up and I knew it was over. I had gotten a full 8 hours of sleep but I woke up exhausted. I was sore in places that I didn’t think I should be sore in and I could barely bring myself to get out of bed, let alone trying to run. So I knew I had to quite. My streak had ended at 21 days and I wasn’t even upset. I was relieved.

img_8370

Friday:

  • Rest Day

Holy cow! What a difference one day of doing nothing made! I woke up feeling so much better! I was less tired and sore and felt a lot better all around. Ending my streak was definitely the right move. I’m thinking a little break from running is in order, and another rest day was as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday:ย

  • Rest Day

Literally did nothing exciting on Saturday haha.

Sunday:

  • Rest day

Basically a repeat of Saturday haha. I’ve been very much enjoying my little break from running and pretty much everything else. I also don’t feel so tired and gross anymore, so that’s a huge plus!!

Weekly Recap: November 27th-December 3rd, 2017

Monday:ย

  • RWRunStreak Day 5: 5k

Ugh! Why was it 60 degrees out on Monday?!?!? Actually, why has it been super crazy warm for most of November…It’s looking like this winter is shaping up to be another warm and dry one. Sad face. I’m not a fan…

But on the bright side! Monday’s run went pretty well! I felt great so I decided to do a nice little interval workout. Haha so this isn’t technically my 5k PR (I’m still suffering from new watch syndrome ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), but hey, I’ll gladly take it!! ๐Ÿ™‚

img_7953

Tuesday:ย

  • RWRunStreak Day 6: 1 mile

So I may or may not have run this mile a little too fast. Especially since I decided to do interval work on Monday. Oops…This is exactly the kind of thing that got me into trouble last time I attempted this streak. I’ve really gotta learn to rein it in haha. But not much I can do about it now and I had a lot of fun, so at least there’s that.

Also, during this run I wore a blaze orange hat, olive green shirt, colorful, foliage print tights, blue shoes, and a bright yellow watch. I am really good at matching things. ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_7977

Wednesday:ย

  • RWRunStreak Day 7: 3 easy miles

Nothing too exciting on Wednesday. Ran down to a pasture to try to see some cows but they weren’t out that morning. Haha oh well. At least I got a couple of miles done. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve kinda been slacking on everything that was not running so far this week. Oops…I need to get back to doing that.

img_7988

Thursday:ย

  • RWRunStreak Day 8: 1 mile

Another not so exciting day of streaking haha. Just did an easy mile to keep it going. ๐Ÿ™‚ But my super neato Zensah holiday socks got here on Thursday and I legit waited for them to show up so I could wear them for this mile.

img_8006

They’re a limited edition par of Zensah socks, but you can still snag yourself a pair here while supplies last!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday:

  • RWRunStreak Day 9: 1 easy mile

Just another easy mile on Friday. My legs were feeling a bit tired so I figured I shouldn’t push it too much. Especially since I’m still kinda early into this streak. It’s all good though! I actually manged to run this one “easy” so I’m pretty proud of myself about that. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_8027

Saturday:

  • RWRunStreak Day 10: 5miles
  • 40 minutes of yoga

5 easy peasy miles! Not gonna lie, at this point my legs are pretty tired. But I suppose that’s pretty normal after running 10 days in a row, after taking a little break from running, after a big goal race. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Haha I have a feeling that I’m going to end up being super duper tired in the days to come, but I think my body will adjust as long as I stick with it. I have a really bad habit of not sticking with the goals I set for myself and making excuses for not doing it. Like I’m too tired or my legs are too sore or whatever, and then I don’t end up meeting my goals or making any kind of progress. I’m not going to do that this time though. I am going to finish this freaking streak haha.

img_8066

Sunday:ย

  • RWRunStreak Day 11: 1 mile
  • Day one of Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred

Today’s run was brought to you by the Foxboro Hot Tubs, becauseย Iย reallyย didn’t want to run today. As predicted, I’m tired and my legs hurt. But like I said, I’m not giving up on this thing, so I turned on Stop Drop and Roll because I can’t listen to this album and not move, ya feel me? Got my run done, and then on a whim decided that I wanted to do Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred again. It’s a fun program and it’s been a while since I’ve done it so I figured, why not? Plus I really need to work on my strength so this should help! So basically I’m doing two challenges at a time because I’m crazy. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I did feel less sore and tired after the workout though, so that’s good. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m sure I’ll be crazy sore tomorrow though haha.

Total Weekly Mileage: 15.13

So the plan for this month is to start building up my total weekly mileage and just build a much better base through out the winter. The streak should definitely help with that, since I’m going to be running at least a mile everyday. ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess 15 miles is a good place to work up from. We’ll see how it actually goes, but right now I’d like to build up to 25-30 by the end of the month and then hopefully 50-60 by maybe February or March. I’m thinking that’ll be good for a nice slow build. I want to get stronger physically and mentally, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than building up my mileage. And a little bit of added strength work as well. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Weekly Recap: September 25th-October 1st, 2017

Monday:

  • 2 miles
  • 15 minutes of yoga

I guess Monday was really just a test run to see how my knee felt. Haha it was super humid, hot, and gross out, and I felt pretty awful. That was pretty much to be expected though. The first few runs back always suck…but other than that it went well! My knee felt pretty good and I’m thinking I’ll be able to slowly get back into my running routine and will be good to go for my half marathon in November.

Also, if it could start feeling like fall outside, that’d be great…

Tuesday:

  • Rest day

Didn’t run on Tuesday, but Luke and I did see Cherry Bombs, Steel Panther, and Stone Sour live, so that was a lot of fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

img_6707

Wednesday:

  • 3 miles

So this run went a lot better than I thought it would considering I’m slowly getting back into running, I was up late the night before, and I did some drinking at the Stone Sour concert. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But it was about 60 degrees and lightly drizzling, so that made it more fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thursday:

  • Rest day

So that kinda happened by accident. I was planning on doing some kind of cross training, but I ended up in a bit of a cleaning frenzy and ended up doing a bit of deep cleaning around the house instead. So I mean, really I’m just glad I ended up getting so much done haha!

Friday:

  • Pumpkin picking and errand running (totally counts! ๐Ÿ˜‰)

Luke and I were super busy on Friday! First we went to a farm thing  where you can pick apples and pumpkins, and picked up some pretty awesome pumpkins! When we got there we found out that we actually got really lucky and that Friday was the first day that they were opening the pumpkin patch for pumpkin picking. And we got there right after they opened so we we were some of the first people to pick pumpkins! That was sooooo cool, because we got the first pick of the pumpkins (and we found some pretty freaking awesome ones!), the field wasn’t all trampled because hardly anyone had walked in it, so we got to walk around through the vines and I actually ran through them and hurdled them and told Luke about every singe neat pumpkin that I saw. Haha so yeah, basically I’m a toddler. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then after we got our pumpkins we went out for Chinese food (yum!), then went to several different stores to grocery shop and pick up stuff we needed. So basically we were gone most of the day and by the time we got home we were both exhausted and ended up watching Bob’s Burgers for the rest of the night. Hahaha so I didn’t run, but it ended up being a great day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday:

  • Rest Day

That wasn’t exactly the plan, but the day just kinda got away from me haha.

Sunday:

  • 2 miles
  • 15 minutes on the stationary bike

This was one of those really tough “just getting back into it” runs. It was short, slow, and sucky, but at least I’m getting out there and doing it. ๐Ÿ˜„

Weekly Recap: September 18th-24th, 2017

Monday:

  • Rest day

I was feeling kinda off on Monday. It was kinda weird, I was just feeling super tired and run down. Haha weird because I haven’t been doing much running, but whatever. My body was telling my to rest, so rest I did. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, my Zensah gear got here on Monday! Yay!! I’ve only worn the compression sleeves a few times but I already love them! And the bra is pretty comfortable too. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_6502

Tuesday:

  • 40 minutes on the stationary bike

Ugh I probably should have tried another short run on Tuesday, but I just wasn’t feeling it. Haha I wasn’t really feeling that either but I needed to do something and the bike just seemed more convenient. Plus I could watch Green Day stuff on YouTube while biking so ya know, that basically helped me make my decision. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wednesday:

  • 1 mile run
  • 10 minute strength routine

Yay! I ran!! Granted it wasn’t a very long run haha. It was 80 degrees out and since I’m the worlds biggest wimp when it comes to the heat I just kinda quit. It’s all good though, because 1 mile is better than no miles. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Followed my short run with some strength stuff that also had a tiny bit of stretching in it. It was nice.

Thursday:

  • 15 minutes on the stationary bike

Nothing too exciting on Thursday. Spent a short amount of time on my bike then cleaned the house. Fun fun fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Friday:

  • Rest day

Yet another boring day. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just needed another day off.

Saturday:

  • 30 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 15 minutes of yoga

Yeah, I probably should have run on Saturday. But I had stayed up pretty late the night before, woke up late, and by then it was super hot/humid and the sun was all the way up, and you know how big of a wimp I am when it comes to the heat haha. Oh well, at least I did something involving cardiovascular fitness. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_6624

Sunday:

  • 40 minutes of yoga

Oh man this yoga practice was exactly what I needed today! I feel so so so great now! ๐Ÿ˜

Anyways, my knee is feeling a lot better and I’m feeling good in general, so I plan on dedicating next week to getting back into running!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Yay! Exciting Things!!!

Little girl ferret still has no name (check out this post if you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), but I’ve loved all of the suggestions so far! Keep them coming guys!! At some point Luke and I are gonna make a list and narrow it down from there.

Anyways, on Tuesday I found out that Stone Sour, which just so happens to be Luke’s favorite band, will be in Kansas City on the 26th. So obviously I told him about it. But he wasn’t sure about going because it’s on a Tuesday night and he has to be up pretty early the next day for work. But then on Thursday while he was at work he texted me, saying he had something important to talk about and that he’d been thinking about it for a while. Haha because you know, he has to be super dramatic about it instead of just coming right out and saying what he has to say. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So I asked him what and he sent me a picture of he’s online receipt thingy for the tickets he bought.

img_6571

So that’s super duper exciting!! I mean, I like Stone Sour and all but they’re definitely not my favorite (we all know who my favorite is and we just saw them in August. You can read about that here and here. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I just love going to concerts! Plus I’m so freaking stoked for Luke! This will be the first time that he’s seen his favorite band live and I’m ridiculously happy for him!! Plus it looks like Steel Panther will be opening for them! If you don’t know who Steel Panther is, go look them up right now! They are fucking amazing!!! So yeah, it should be a pretty awesome show! Not as good as Green Day’s concert obviously, but I’m sure Luke will disagree with me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah, I’m literally never going to get over how awesome my second experience of seeing Green Day live, in concert was, so here are some photos! For like, the 8th billion time! I CAN’T HELP IT THEY”RE MY FAVORITE!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyways, I know a decent amount of Stone Sour songs, but I figured I should probably listen to their new album all the way through, since we are seeing them live and all. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So, I did that yesterday morning and then again today while I picked up around the house and then while I used my stationary bike. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_6595

Anyway, I probably definitely should have run this morning but I was up until around 1 am last night, ended up waking up late, and by then the sun was up and it was pretty hot/humid. Any you know me, I’m the biggest wimp in the world when it comes it the heat. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Oh well, at least I biked for a little bit. And next week I’m going to make a point to work on getting back into my running routine and hopefully start working on building back up enough fitness to be able to run the Longview half marathon in November! Well, that’s assuming that my knee is even healed enough for that, but it’s been feeling pretty great so I think it just may be. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today! Happy second day of fall! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Not Being Able To Run Is Tough…Getting Back Into It Is Even Tougher

You know how after taking a break from running, whether it be for injury, burnout, loss of motivation, or whatever, and you miss it while you’re not doing it but then once it comes time to start running again and you just don’t want to do it? Yeah that’s where I am right now. Now that I’ve fallen out of my routine I’m finding it very difficult to begin getting back into it.

And honestly I don’t even think starting to get back into a routine is even the hard part. I mean, it sucks that I’ve fallen out of it, but I think after a few days I can be right back into it. The problem is I know how freaking badly running again is going to suck. It’s going to be so freaking hard. Because running is already really hard, but the more you do it the more fun it becomes. At least that’s how it usually goes for me. The first few weeks of coming back after a break, or even just starting for the very first time, is super hard and it hurts in a way that doesn’t feel good (if you’ve been running for a while then you probably know that good hurting feeling. I know I sure do. ๐Ÿ˜‰ and it’s no fun and I’m totally not looking forward to all of that. Ugh but the only way to get back to having fun with running is to actually do it and experience all the suck. I’m just not looking forward to the experience…

Did that paragraph even make any sense? Haha it made sense to me, at least.

Anyway, two days in a row I’ve told myself I was going to hop back onto the running bandwagon and I have not. Honestly I think that’s alright though. If I’m not ready to embrace the suck yet then I’m not going to do it. Doing something I don’t want to do is a really good way to get me to burnout, which is something I definitely don’t want to do right after getting back into it haha. At the end of the day if running isn’t fun then I’m not going to do it.

Eventually I’ll be ready to embrace all of the suck that comes with getting back into running. And probably very soon, because I am very much over this whole not running thing hahaha. But today is not that day, and I’ve officially decided that I’m ok with that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Weekly Recap: September 11th-17th, 2017

Monday:

  • 2 miles
  • 10 minute kettle bell workout

Hurray! I ran on Monday!! Just two miles, but hey, that’s better than nothing! My knee was aching a bit near the end of the first mile, but I was a mile away from home and I had to get back somehow so I ran that mile back. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And it just felt really good to run again so I didn’t really want to stop, even though I probably should have stopped once my knee started hurting. Oh well.

Tuesday:

  • Rest day

Trying to take things easy and do the whole run every other day thing, so that I don’t over do it and hopefully give my knee more time to heal. So, took a rest day on Tuesday. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wednesday:

  • 2 miles
  • 10 minutes of stretching

Check out my fancy new compression leggings!! Not sure if they actually helped out during my run, but my leg was feeling a bit better on Wednesday, during my run. ๐Ÿ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

Thursday:

  • Rest day

Yeah, I just didn’t feel like doing anything on Thursday, so I didn’t haha. But in all fairness, not doing anything was probably good for my knee situation. ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday:

I guess you could call Friday an active rest day? Haha Luke and I went grocery shopping, ran some errands, and then took the dogs to the park and walked them around for a while. We actually managed to wear all three of them out, which is not an easy task to accomplish. ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_6401

Saturday:

Another day spend doing nothing haha. Luke and I stayed up pretty late the night before so I didn’t get much sleep and was basically too tired to do anything on Saturday. I feel like I’ve just gotten lazy though. I mean, at the very least I could have stretched or something. Oh well.

Sunday:

  • 30 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 20 minutes of yoga

Attempting to ward off the cycle of laziness that I’m currently about to fall into. I’ve caught myself thinking things along the lines of “running is not currently happening, so why do anything?” Yeah that’s like the opposite of what I should be doing. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But I made the time to get active and not sit around and feel sorry for myself today, and that’s totally a win!!

So tomorrow I’m going to go for another short run and try to assess my current leg situation and then go from there!

Happy Sunday!

~Ashley
