Weekly Recap: September 2nd-8th, 2019

Have you ever felt like a week just kinda…slipped through your fingers? That’s how I feel about this week.

Like, one second it was Monday and then all of a sudden it was Friday and I had no idea where all of that time had gone. 😂 Of course I DO know where that time went! It just all felt like a blur!!

I guess that probably had something to do with the long weekend. Tuesday felt like Monday and everything just got thrown off from there. So yeah, this week wasn’t a really good one. Things just kinda got away from me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Monday:

  • 9 holes of golf
  • 20 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 7 minutes of core work

Happy Labor Day!!!

How did you celebrate?? (I’m not even going to get into the irony that is Labor Day. We’re supposed to be celebrating laborers and yet they’re the one’s who usually have to work and office workers are the one’s who get the day off? 🤔)

Anyway, Luke and I celebrated by hitting the golf course and playing 9 holes. I’m still really bad at pretty much everything aside from putting. I am really really good at putting. So I guess maybe I should stick to mini golf. 😂

  • Tuesday:
    • Tempo run on the treadmill, 3 miles
      5 minutes of arm work

Ok, so this was actually something I did get right this week!

Tempo runs are probably my least favorite workout to do. Like ever. But I think this one went really well!! I wouldn’t say I crushed it, but it was a decently solid workout.

Followed that with a tiny bit of arm work. Hahaha something is better than nothing, right?! 😉

    Wednesday:

    • Rest day

Now here’s where things really start to get wonky. The plan was to switch Thursday’s cross training with Wednesday’s run. Obviously that didn’t happen.

But I did take Dean for a nice walk Wednesday evening. I actually took a dog for a walk every evening this week (this photo is actually from Tuesday nights walk, but whatevs. 😂). That’s been really nice. Dusk is probably my favorite time of day, and while it’s still pretty warm here I’ve really been enjoying my evening walks.🌙

    Thursday:

    • 15 minutes stationary bike
    • 10 minutes Pilates

My job interview with Garmin was Thursday morning!! How weird do I look without my nose ring in???😂😂

I think I look weird, anyway. It’s been pierced since I was 19 (so 8 years) and I rarely ever take it out. But I wanted to make a good first impression for this interview so it had to go. Along with my purple hair. I’m not sure if I’ve actually mentioned that here, but I dyed my hair black last weekend with this interview in mind. I wanted to look a little less like a rebellious teenager. I’m not sure if I managed that, but I tried!

Anyway, I think the interview went well! I should hear back from Garmin at some point next week so fingers crossed that they decide to move forward in their interview process with me! 🤞🏻

Now my interview was at 8:30 in the morning. Which is usually when I do my running. But one thing just kinda happened after another on Thursday and by the time I realized that I never ran it was like 8:30 pm and I didn’t feel like doing it. So I didn’t… I did hit up the stationary bike and do a little bit of Pilates though, so again, something is better than nothing!

But this is why I prefer to run in the mornings. Then it’s out of the way and I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the day. 😂

But if I do get this job with Garmin I’m either going to have to wake up at like 4:30 am to get my runs done, run on my lunch break (which apparently a lot of people do. No surprise there. This is Garmin we’re talking about. 😉), or run in the evening. But I guess I’ll figure that out as needed!

    Friday:

    • 3 miles

This run was kinda meh. My legs have just been tired and heavy. Which is weird considering how little running I’ve done this week. I was hoping that a nice and easy 3 miles would help, but it didn’t end up helping at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Oh well. I was still glad to get this run done. 😄

    Saturday:

    • 4.47 miles
    • 30 minutes of yoga and foam rolling

Ew yeah no, this did not go well. My quads were REALLY hurting on Saturday. Gross.

My husband got sick with a bad cold and I’m really hoping I don’t end up catching it too, but I’m also kinda wondering if that’s why I felt so tired and sore on Saturday. Gross.

    Sunday:

    • rest day

Well so far I’m not feeling terrible, but I’m still not feeling great either. Hopefully after a rest day I’ll be fine but my throat is starting to feel a little scratchy so I don’t know. Usually if my husband gets sick I end up catching it not long after… I’m really hoping I don’t end up with this bug though. I’ve already missed out on enough running, I don’t need to miss anymore.

But yeah. This week, it just got away from me. It happens though. Hopefully next week will be better!

    Happy Sunday!

    Weekly Recap: August 5th-11th, 2019

Oops. This posted before I was finished writing it. 🤣 I ended up babysitting my niece and nephew last night so I kinda completely forgot to finish writing my weekly recap. Oh well. Here it is in its entirety now. 😉

    Anyway!

Woohoo! I am back at it! 💪🏻🏃🏻‍♀️

This summer has been a crazy one but all of the craziness has, for the most part, settled down! I feel like I’ve finally gotten into half marathon training! Which is good because technically I should be three weeks into it at this point. Oops. But at least I’m into it now!

This week was a little bit stressful. It didn’t go as planned, but I think it ended up being relatively successful! 😄

    Monday:

    • 3 easy miles
    • 25 minutes of yoga

Will waking up at 5 am ever get easier? Probably not… But at least you get rewarded by getting to watch the sun rise when you wake up that early!

I actually woke up 10 minutes before my 5 am alarm. That really sucked because I really did t want to be awake but at the same time I didn’t see any point in laying in bed for 10 minutes, so I got up, ate breakfast, got dressed, and then headed out for my run. Which was relatively uneventful, but still good. 😁

    Tuesday:

    • 3 miles. Intervals.
    • 15 minutes of yoga

So I did my very first podcast interview on Tuesday! That was scary! But also so much fun!!! I can’t wait for it to come out and I’ll definitely share with you guys when it does! And don’t worry, I won’t let my new found podcast fame go to my head. 😉

Anyway, my first speedy session of hall marathon training is done!! Unfortunately it had to happen on the treadmill. I slept in on Tuesday because I was up until 3 am the night before dealing with a vomiting dog. The dog is fine now, but by the time I woke up it was too hot out for me to want to run outside.

It’s all good though. This kind of interval workout is my favorite kind and it ended up going really well! 😊

    Wednesday:

    • 3.5 easy miles

Whew! This was a tough one! But I kinda figured it would be, considering how well my interval workout on Tuesday went. 😂

We had some thunderstorms roll in that morning so I waited until around 10 am to do this run. By then it was just lightly raining and it was very nice.

    Thursday:

    • Rest day

So super duper long story short, Lily had to have an emergency surgery on Thursday. She is 100% fine now, but for most of the day on Thursday I was incapable of doing anything until the vet called me sand told me everything went well and that she was waking up from her surgery just fine. Whew. That was a long day…

Hahaha so this photo is actually from Thanksgiving 2015 but it’s o e of my favorites of Lily! My sister and I were going to feed my dad’s cows and she kept them from getting outside of the fence and then kept them away from their feeder while we filled it with hay. She is a very good dog. 💜

    Friday:

    • 2 treadmill miles

Oh man, Friday was relatively uneventful. Got in two miles on my treadmill and that was pretty much it! 😂

    Saturday:

    • 4 treadmill miles

Winchester cheered me on for this one!!

Ok, really he just likes to hang out on my yoga mat, but whatever. 😉

But oh man, Saturday was a hot one! And I just wasn’t feeling it really. I got in 4 miles and just called it good. But hey, it sure beats not doing anything!!

    Sunday:

    • 2 miles

So on Sunday I decided I was going to do 3 easy miles to just squeeze in some more miles since I didn’t really do a long run this week. I only ended up making it to two though because it was hot and humid and I wasn’t into it. 🥵 But again, a little something is better than nothing!!

After my two miles I had planned on resting and relaxing for the rest of the day, but I actually ended up babysitting my niece and nephew. They’re good kids, but jeez they can be exhausting! So so much for resting and relaxing. 😂 At one point my nephew was playing on my phone and he took 8 million pictures of his shoe, my table, me, and his sisters feet. Good times. 😂😂

Lol yeah, such a flattering photo. And this was probably the best one. 🤣

    Total Weekly Mileage: 17.56

That’s about 2.5 miles less than I was aiming for, but honestly that’s not too bad! All-in-all I’m happy with how last week went and I’m looking forward to having an even better week this week!!

    Happy Monday!

    ~Ashley

    Weekly Recap: July 8th-14th, 2019

So having two teenagers (my brother and sister in law) living in my house this week has been an interesting endeavor. Not that it was bad or anything! It’s just that…they’re teenagers. So they sleep in a lot later than I do. So a lot of tip toeing around the house happened in the mornings. 😂

Especially the early mornings when I had to get up at 5 am if I wanted to run before it got too terribly hot out. There were a few of those days. I sure hate having to wake up that early, but I always regret it when I don’t. The sun is not my friend in the summer…

Not gonna lie, I legit have a countdown on my phone for the Autumn Equinox and the first day of October. My body is ready!!! 🎃🍂

    Monday:

    • 4 easy miles

I’d say I’m just trying to get back into the swing of things, but the swing of things has still been a little bit off this week, obviously! 😉 So really I’m just trying to squeeze it in when I can.

So on Monday I was up at 5 am to get my run done! I’m not a fan of having to wake up that early, but at least I was treated to a nice sunrise. After my run I had to take care of a bunch of stuff around the house before my sister in laws got here. One of them left after a few minutes. She still had about a 5 hour drive to St. Louis. But obviously the other one stayed here with us. 😊 She and I, plus her brother spent the rest of the day hanging out and kinda picking on each other. Because what else are siblings supposed to do?? 😂😂

    Tuesday:

    • 2 treadmill miles
    • 20 minutes of yoga

Hahaha oh boy, I was tired from my early wake up and then later bedtime on Monday, so I ended up sleeping in till 8 on Tuesday. That’s definitely not a great thing to do in the summer. When I woke up the sun was out and it was HOT. So I decided I was going to do my run on the treadmill instead. I’m a huge wimp when it comes to the heat. 🥵🤣

So I had to waited until about 11 to do this 2 mile run. My brother in law has been sleeping on an air up mattress in our spare bedroom, which is really our “exercise room” because that’s where my treadmill, stationary bike, yoga mats, foam rollers, and running shoes now reside. But yet again the problem with teenagers is they like to sleep in late. And I get it. I was a teenager once too. But I’m a morning runner and an inpatient person so I git tired of waiting. So I ended up running outside anyway. 😂

Oh man that was miserable! I wanted to do a little bit of speed work today but that wasn’t going to happen in the mid-morning heat! So I just did two slow miles. Hahaha but that’s better than nothing! Afterwards I enjoyed some nice, cold watermelon, because literally nothing is better after a hot run. 🍉😋

    Wednesday:

    • 5 miles
    • 30 minutes on the stationary bike

77 degrees. 94% humidity. At least that’s what the weather was like when I started my run on Wednesday morning at 5:30 I’m the morning.

Not exactly fun times, but I got it done!! Doing my very best to get back on track after 3 not so great running weeks. So far so good! 😊 Even though getting back into it is hard as hell and kinda hurts. 😂 But I also know that it won’t be that way for long and that definitely helps!

    Thursday:

    • Rest day

My legs were starting to feel HEAVY by Wednesday! 😂 So a rest day definitely felt good on Thursday!

Hahaha originally I wanted it to be a cross training day, but I was tired so 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Friday:

    • Zoo day

So Friday didn’t end up going as I had planned, but it was a fun day! Luke kinda decided at the last minute that he wanted to take his brother and sister to the Kansas City Zoo and art museum so that’s what we did!

It was a long, hot day, but still lots of fun. You can read more about it here if you’re interested! 😁

    Saturday:

    • 7 miles on the treadmill

So this was a weird run. Actually it just felt like a weird day in general! 😂

So usually I run in the morning, but I woke up late on Saturday (our zoo adventures kinda sapped everyone’s energy, I think!) and decided I was going to run on the treadmill. But I had to wait until 1:20 pm when my brother in law finally woke up because he’s been sleeping on an air mattress in our spare bedroom, which is where my treadmill is. So that was all just weird.

Then about 4 miles into my run my dad called me and we talked for about an hour. But since I couldn’t really hear with the treadmill going I had to stop. So yeah, my 7 miles weren’t exactly consecutive. But at least I finished them after I got off of the phone with my dad. 😂

Then I did some stretching, showered, ate, and all of a sudden it was 4 pm but it felt like it should have only be 11 am (because I usually do all of this in the morning) and my whole perception of time was off for the rest of the day. But at least I got 7 miles done. 🏃🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😂

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

    Happy anniversary to us!

7 years married. 11 years (almost 😉) together. And 13 years of knowing each other. We’re still the coolest people I know. 😎🖤😂

    Total Weekly Mileage: 18

Not exactly what I’ve been aiming for, but after everything we’ve had going on I’ll definitely take it!! 😊

My sister in law left today, and while I really enjoyed having another girl around here, that’s one less person I have to worry about which means I’ll have a little more time on my hands next week. 😉 So maybe I’ll be able to squeeze in a few more miles. But I am happy with what I was able to get done this week. 😄

Happy Sunday! I hope you had a great week!

    ~Ashley

    Weekly Recap: March 18th-24th, 2019

Hills, tank top weather, a super moon, yoga, sunshine, a little bit of rain, a double digit run, and over 20 running miles! This week has it all and more!

    Monday:

    • 3 treadmill miles
    • 10 minutes on the stationary bike
    • 20 minutes of strength training

    Hills hills hills!!!

KILLED my quads on the treadmill on Monday. I want to be ready for my upcoming trail 10k in April, so I figure I need to squeeze in a few more hill sessions. 😊

After powering up some hills on the treadmill I cooled down a little bit on my stationary bike. Later in the day I continue the leg torture with a 20 minute leg workout. I like to think Monday was a successful day.

    Tuesday:

    • 3 miles

    It’s tank top weather!!

Not gonna lie, I’m not exactly stoked about that. I kinda already miss winter. 😂 Where are my cold weather peeps at??

I was, however, pretty darn excited about how well this run went! I absolutely KILLED my legs on Monday. So they were super sore and understandably so when I woke up on Tuesday. But I was glad to find that even so my body responded well and even wanted a little more, even though my legs were tired and sore. It was a super fun run. It was also a hard run. Probably shouldn’t have done that after a hard day on Monday, but I was just having too much fun. 😄

I had good intentions of doing yoga later in the day, but I ended up babysitting my neighbor’s kid and that just never happened. Oh well.

    Wednesday:

    • 4 miles

4 “easy” miles done in the morning. They sure didn’t feel easy though. 😂 The original plan was to do 6, but yeah, no. DOMS was REAL on Wednesday. Not really surprising though.

Anyway, Wednesday was the first day of spring and a full moon! Everyone was calling it a super moon but I honestly have no idea what the whole super moon thing is about. It seems like we have a “super moon” every month now. Whatever, the moon still looked incredible Wednesday evening. I took Lily and then Whiskey (I don’t walk my dogs together, they gang up on me if I do. 😂), so I got to see it as the sun went down and the moon came up. Pictures never do it justice though.

    Thursday:

    • 2 miles
    • 15 minute arm workout
    • 20 minutes of yoga

Thursday’s easy 2 miles actually felt easy! 😂 Seriously though, that was nice. Followed that up with a little arm workout and then yoga later in the day. Honestly it wasn’t an eventful day, but it was a good one. 😊

    Friday:

    • Rest Day

An impromptu rest day on Friday because oh boy was I tired!! 😴

Honestly though it was more of an active rest day. My little next door neighbor came over to “hang out” (i.e. her mom needed me to babysit her 😉) around 12:30 that afternoon. So we walked to the park, played on a rock wall, swing set, and monkey bars, then we walked back home and watched Gravity Falls until Luke came home. Then we all played outside a little bit, had pizza for dinner, and finally got rid of my favorite 5 year old neighbor around 6:40 pm. She had fun though, so that’s all that matters.

    Saturday:

    • 10 miles

First double digit run since the Gobbler Grind Half in November! 🥳 I’ve been enjoying my 8 mile long runs, but it’s long past time for me to start building them up!

Well, for now at least. I’ve got at least two more that I’d like to do before the trail 10k my dad and I are doing April 14th. After that I’m not sure if I’m gonna jump back into training pretty much where I left off, or if I’m gonna take a week or two a little bit easier and then build up from there. It really depends on how I feel once it’s all said and done. Sure it’s only a 10k, but it’s a 10k in the mountains and going from almost 1,000 feet above sea level to around 5,000 feet is hard! 😂 Plus my dad is already planning some hikes he wants to take me on while I’m in Colorado, so really who knows how I’ll feel when I get back to Kansas. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve got my training plan written out all the way up to the race and then like I said, I’ll just figure it all out after that’s all said and done.

So, I’ve been writing my own training plan so far this year and honestly it’s going great! Better than any training plan I’ve done up until this point! It’s pretty sweet actually! I know some people don’t like having to think about what workouts and runs they need to do, but I kinda like piecing it all together for myself!

This is actually probably a whole other post for a different day, so for now I’ll leave it at that.😊

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

It’s weird how adding two more miles to a long run can make you so much more tired. 😂

When you think about it, two miles really isn’t a lot, but for whatever reason going from 8 miles to 10 miles feels like a big jump. At least I think it does! So today I felt a little bit more tired than usual since I did add those two more miles to my long run. Although I definitely don’t feel as beat up as I once would have! Just a little bit sore and tired. It’s pretty cool how you can gauge how far you’ve come based on how sore your legs feel the next day. 😂

But really, there was a time when 10 miles would just completely wreck me. I’m definitely not wrecked today though! A little low on energy, but otherwise good! 😊

    Total Weekly Mileage: 22

Woohoo! Another 20+ mile training week! Honestly I would have liked to have gotten to 24 miles this week, but I ended up cutting my run on Wednesday a little short. Not a big deal really. I’m still happy with the fact that I went over 20 miles for the week. I’m slowly but surely working my way up!

Alrighty! That’s a wrap for this week! I’ve got two more full weeks of training and then it’s off to Colorado for a week and then my first race of 2019 on April 14th!

    Happy Sunday, everyone!

    ~Ashley

    Weekly Recap: March 11th-17th, 2019

Well this week turned out to be a pretty good one as far as running, training, actually doing some cross training, and whatnot goes! Mother Nature sure brought a few surprises this week as well, but all-in-all it was a good one!

So let’s get right into it!

    Monday:

    • 3 miles on the treadmill
    • 15 minutes on the stationary bike

Did someone speed work on the treadmill to kick off my week! Warmed up with 10 minutes on the stationary bike, did an easy mile on the treadmill, followed by some hard intervals, really focusing on my form, and then an easy half mile cool down, and finally 5 more minutes on the stationary bike.

It was a hard workout, but a good one!! Haha I had a very cute spectator and ran the first few minutes of my easy mile without shoes, just because it felt good not to. 😄

Anyway, Luke and I cleaned out our extra bedroom and put the treadmill, stationary bike, and other various exercise equipment. We’ve dubbed it the “exercise room” and let me tell ya, it’s pretty sweet having a room dedicated to exercise stuff! It definitely makes actually cross training easier! 😊

    Tuesday:

    • 3 easy miles

Holy moly my legs were tired after Monday’s speed work. That coupled with the wind we were experiencing made this run TOUGH. It was a super, slow slog, and I wanted to quit the whole time. But I finished it and I know I’m better for it. 😊

Anyway, it’s definitely starting to feel like spring here in Kansas! It’s getting warmer and windy and I’d say it was getting wet, but we actually had a super wet winter. 😂 But it’s looking like we’re gonna have a wet spring as well.

    Make a wish. 😉

    Wednesday:

    • 5.43 miles
    • downed tree stuff

We had wind gusts of up to 50-60 mph on Wednesday. That made for a very interesting day…

Started my day off in my usual way, with a run. 😊I got poured on during the first half of this run! That was a lot of fun!! Although at on point an older gentleman pulled up next to me in his car and offered to take me anywhere I wanted to go. I told him I was alright and politely declined. I know this guy probably had nothing but good intentions, but still, even if I wasn’t having a good time I wouldn’t just get into a car with a stranger like that.

Anyway, the wind really started picking up around the second half of this run. It started getting really bad so I ended up cutting this run a little short. Hahaha I’m good with that though. Running in that wind 5.43 miles should basically count for 6 miles anyway. 😉

Later that afternoon we had a tree get blown down onto a power line. Yeah, not good. But thanks to the help of a few neighbors we got it down safely. You can read all about those adventures here, if you’d like. 😉

    Thursday:

    • 30 minutes on the stationary bike
    • 20 minutes of strength work

Cross train day yay!! Hahaha worked on my kinda wimpy arms after taking a little spin on the stationary bike on Thursday. Followed that up with a little bit of head stand practice just for fun. 🙃

    Friday:

    • 3.25 miles

Busy busy day!! Didn’t get my run in Friday morning like I usually would. I managed to squeeze it in that afternoon. It was a good one! 😊

It would appear that spring is finally here in Kansas! It was kinda weird, one day it was winter but then the next it was spring. 😂 And it’s looking like it’s actually here to stay! We’re supposed to get highs in the 60’s next week. Anyone ready for me to start complaining about the warm weather? Because it’s coming.😂

    Saturday:

    • 8 miles
    • 30 minutes on the stationary bike
    • 20 minutes stretching/foam rolling

Oh man, that 8 mile run Saturday morning was an absolute grind. I got through it somehow though! 💪🏻🏃🏻‍♀️

That night my brother-in-law came over and brought his PlayStation that he set up on our second tv, so he and my husband spent the night playing Call Of Duty with their dad and one of their brother’s. I ain’t about that PlayStation life, so while they were doing that I ended up spending some time on our newly set up workout room! Spent some time on my stationary bike and doing some stretching and foam rolling while Lily watched. 😂 Then after that I just binge watched more Law and Order SVU until 2 am when my brother-in-Law went home and we finally went to bed. Hahaha I’m not exactly a fan of staying up that late anymore, at least not often, but there was no way I was gonna to be able to sleep with all of that noise they were making. 😂

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

Spent the day, resting, relaxing, and letting my week of training seep in. 😄

    Total Weekly Mileage: 22.77

Just barely missed the 23 miles I was aiming for! 😂 Honestly though that’s close damn enough for me! I’m very happy with how well this week of running went and how easily I was able to jump back into the swing of things after being sick last week. 😄

At this point we’re about a month out from the trail race my dad and I are doing in Colorado! I got the racer’s guide via email a few days ago and looking at that elevation chart again kinda freaked me out! I’m going to be going from about 1,000 feet above sea level which is where I live to almost 5,000 feet at certain points of this race. There are definitely some hills. Yikes!

Good thing we’re the “Sloth Running Team” and are going to take our time and get there when we get there. 😂

Still though, it’s gonna be a tough day! But probably lots of fun! I’m definitely looking forward to it!

    Anyway, that’s all for today!

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!

    ~Ashley 💚🍀

    Weekly Recap: March 4th-10th, 2019

Well this week Sure didn’t go as planned! But that’s life for you, isn’t it? Not everything goes as planned all of the time, and that’s ok! Shit happens.

This week my shit was getting sick. Nothing too bad though. I just had to take a few days off from running. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I was a little bit bummed because I was on a huge roll with my running. But oh well. My body needed some extra rest so that’s what I gave it. 😊

    Monday:

    • 3 treadmill miles
    • 30 minutes of yoga

Oh man, this was a tough one! For some reason I felt heavy and stuff on Monday. Probably because I absolutely KILLED it last week! Like, wow. I’m very happy with what I accomplished. 😊

Anyway, doing this run on the treadmill also didn’t help. But the real feel temps were around -15 that morning and o really didn’t want to deal with that. I love the winter you guys, but at this point even I’m looking forward to it ending! This crazy cold hasn’t exactly been fun! I’m super grateful that I have a treadmill though and have been able to get all my miles in because of it! 😁

    Tuesday:

    • 1 hour on the stationary bike
    • 30 minutes of yoga

I was still feeling stiff and heavy on Tuesday. I was hoping my easy slog on the treadmill the day before would have helped, but no dice. So I skipped my planned run and spent some time on my stationary bike, hoping that would flush my legs out a little bit. That plus a little bit of yoga. It felt really good. 😊

    Wednesday:

    • Rest Day

Woke up sick. Yuck. But at least I know why I’ve felt off all week! 😉 Took the day off and spent most of my time binge watching Law and Order: SVU. I’m not exactly stoked to be missing out on a few days of running. Especially since I’ve been absolutely killing it lately and have been running more consistently than I ever have before. But I know that right now my body needs rest, so rest I shall!

    Thursday:

    • 15 minutes of yoga

Still not feeling very well on Thursday. So I took another rest day, although I did do a little bit of yoga. A nice little “yoga for when you are sick” routine by Yoga With Adriene. She is my all time favorite yoga YouTuber. She literally has a yoga routine for EVERYTHING and she’s just an amazing human being. If you’re looking to start an at home yoga practice you should definitely check her out!

    Friday:

    • 3 miles

I was definitely starting to feel better by Friday!! Went out for a nice and easy 3 mile run. It went well. 😊 Hahaha Running definitely helped clear out some of the snot out of me. 😂

    Saturday:

    • 6 miles
    • 30 minutes of yoga

Plan “A” for Saturday was to run 10 miles. Plan “B” was to run whatever my body could handle. Turns out, that was only 6 miles. But hey, I’ll take it! I was definitely feeling better, but still getting over being sick and I knew that there was a very good possibility that actually completing my long run was a bit of a longshot.

It’s all good though! I’m just glad that I got out and got something done! Even if I didn’t exactly feel great doing it.

    Sunday:

    • Rest day

I forgot about daylight savings time until yesterday evening. 😂 Oh well, while the adjustment of “springing forward” is a little bit weird at first, it’s not too terrible.

Anyway, I thought about getting in a few easy miles or something today since I missed so many days this week, but I eventually decided against it. I’m trying to hold fast on the Sunday rest day thing. Taking Sunday’s off helps me go into a new week of training feeling rested and rejuvenated physically and mentally. 😊 So here’s hoping next week goes better than this one did!

    Total Weekly Mileage: 12

Obviously this wasn’t a great week. 12 miles in a week is no where near what I’ve been running, but still, I’ll take it. I got sick and I needed to rest. And honestly I think all of that rest helped me to get over my cold faster than I would have if I had just tried to push through it. I’ve learned so much about listening to my body over the past several years and I really think that’s all starting to pay off!

Anyway, I hope to be back at it again in full force next week!

    Happy Sunday everyone!

    Weekly Recap: January 21st-27th, 2019

I’ve felt kinda tired and off this week. By Sunday I was definitely feeling run down and like I was right about to come down with a cold or something. Damn. Like and I had been doing incredibly well at not getting sick this cold a flu season. But I guess it was inevitable that I’d end up getting sick eventually. My immune system isn’t the greatest…

    Monday:

    • 4 miles

Monday was a cold one!! Felt like 8 degrees out and was cloudy and windy. I felt kinda like Randy from A Christmas Story in all of my various layers, but at least I was relatively comfortable during my run. 😂

I talk all about how I gear up for super cold winter runs here, if you’re interested! 👍🏻😊

    Tuesday:

    • 3 miles

I was feeling very, very meh on Tuesday. I didn’t exactly want to run but I felt pretty decent once I got out there.

Anyway, it was drizzly and cold. Warmer than the day before though. Hahaha we’ve still got some big piles of snow, slush, ice, and mud everywhere. So it’s been an interesting couple of days. 😂

    Wednesday:

    • 4 treadmill miles

Woke up to an inch or so of new snow!! I was super duper excited about getting another snowy run in, but my husband texted me and told me the roads were super slippery. And they were…it had rained before it snowed so there was just a nice little layer of ice underneath it all. So I took to the treadmill for 4 miles on Wednesday.

It was no fun… every once in a in a while I can get a decent treadmill run in, but most of the time treadmill running just saps all of the life out of me. But about an hour after I had finished and was laying around feeling sorry for myself and just messing around on my phone I got some really exciting news!!! I can’t tell you what yet, but I am so freaking stoked!!!!! It made my day so much better after that sad treadmill run. 😂😄

    Thursday:

    • 45 minutes strength training
    • 25 minutes yoga

Woop woop! Got a decent strength workout done on Thursday!! Then a nice yoga practice done in the afternoon, including a few headstands. I used to practice my headstands a lot and at one point I was really good at them! But I kinda fell off for a while. But I was super stoked to find out that I’m still capable of holding one for a while! I’m currently using the wall as a safety net because I do kinda fall backwards sometimes, but still, it’s not as bad as I thought it would be! 😁

Also, my watch says my strength session was 55 minutes long because that’s including the warm up and cool down. I just can’t be bothered to keep track of that and sets and whatnot. 😉

    Friday:

    • 35 minutes on the stationary bike

I was pretty sore on Friday! Tired too. Decided to spend some time on my stationary bike to help loosen up my legs a little bit. Mission accomplished! 😄

    Saturday:

    • 7 miles

It was another cold day on Saturday! Not as cold as Monday was, but still pretty chilly! I got 7 miles in for my “long run” this week. Hahaha for me personally, that’s not really a long run. Especially since I’ve been doing “medium long” runs at 5 miles. So really I should probably be doing at least 10 for my actual long run. But oh well, still happy with my 7. 😉

I felt pretty good for the most part! All in all it was pretty decent run.

    Sunday:

    • 30 minutes of yoga

I actually woke up feeling ok today, but as the day went on I started feeling a little worse. I’m tired, a little bit achy (but not from my run yesterday), and my throat has been a bit scratchy. I’ve been hoping that I’d make it through cold and flu season unscathed, but it’s looking like that’s not gonna happen.

I spent my day resting, drinking tea, and I did a little bit of restorative yoga with a couple of headstands thrown in just for fun! 😉🙃 I’m hoping a little bit of rest will help keep this from turning into a full blown thing, but we shall see.

    Total Weekly Mileage: 18.10

I’m moving that weekly mileage up at a snail’s pace. But hey, a snail’s pace sure beats not moving forward at all! Or even worse, going backwards! So I’ll gladly take it!!

Slightly unrelated, but does anyone else feel like the month of January is going by at a snail’s pace as well? Like, I swear it’s been at least 3 months since Christmas, but nope, it’s been about 1. What the heck is up with that?!?

Anyway, wishing everyone a happy Sunday!
