February 17th, 2018

Hello friends! I hope everyone has had a super Saturday! 🙂 🙂 🙂

This photo is kind of irrelevant haha. I’ve just been wearing these socks all day and they make me super happy. 😉

I’m not sure if I can describe my Saturday as “super”, but I did have a pretty good day. 🙂 I’m still not running thanks to my toe, but it is starting to look and feel a lot better! And the tooth that had the root canal seems to be healing nicely as well! It’s still a little sore, especially where I had the Novocaine shots, but other than that it’s doing great! Now I just need to get a crown on it and it should be good to go! I’m still feeling a little bit itchy from the antibiotics I had though (I had an allergic reaction to them). I only took two doses of it so I was hoping the rash wouldn’t last for very long, and for the most part it’s gone, I’ve just got a few itchy spots left and it’s kind of obnoxious haha. But all in all, my ailments are healing and I’m very happy about that! I was in kind of miserable shape there for a little bit, so it feels great to finally be on the mend!

Just for comparison, the photos below show my toe on February 7th, and 16th. So it’s definitely healing! I’m still kinda limping around on it, but it definitely feels better than it did on the 7th when I hurt it!

It’s kind of annoying that I’m always doing this kind of stuff my myself though. I swear almost every time I get hurt and am unable to run, it happens because I did something stupid or klutzy (like slipping, falling, and hitting my toe on the edge of my couch). Most of my injuries don’t come from running, although I have had my fair share of those as well. I’m just super injury prone, I guess.

This is my husband’s assessment of my life. It’s also the reason he won’t let me get on the roof to take down our Christmas lights EVEN THOUGH IT”S THE MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY!!!

Anyway, 4 years ago today to my parents’ extreme disappointment, I got my second tattoo!

Haha I guess they weren’t too fond of their eldest daughter getting a relatively large, black skull permanently put onto her body. 😉 I, on the other hand, think it’s fucking fantastic! A lot of people don’t seem to agree with me on that one though, but that just makes me like it even more haha. The artist who did it was pretty awesome! She did a tattoo on Luke a few days before she did mine and they both turned out really great! I bled a lot during this one (it took a lot of ink haha), but even so there is very little visible scaring and 4 years later it still looks really good!

And funnily enough, February 17th also just so happens to be Billie Joe Armstrong’s birthday! That didn’t happen on purpose, it was just a really weird coincidence. Still kinda neat though. 🙂 So yeah, wishing the happiest of birthdays to my favorite front-man!

I wish I knew who to properly credit this photo for! All I know is that I found it on pinterest

Speaking of tattoos, I want another one (or two, or ten. 😉 ). So does Luke. And it would appear that we will be going on another family vacation this summer (this year we’re going to Branson, MO), and I’m thinking we might end up coming home from that trip with a little more ink. 😉 We’ll have to wait and see, but we both have several ideas of things we want done, and I’m pretty sure we’re just going to start making it a tradition to get tattooed while we’re on vacation, because why not?! Haha I mean, we both got tattooed while we were in Florida and that was a lot of fun! 🙂 I also kinda want another ear piercing, but I absolutely hate healing piercings. It usually takes my body a while to finally get used to them. So maybe that wont happen. Or maybe it will. I can’t make up my mind haha.

But anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today. Haha I don’t have a lot going on right now, especially since I’m not currently running, so I feel like I don’t have a lot to talk about. Oh well. Hopefully it wont be too much longer until I can run again!

Until next time,

The Last 10 Photos On My Phone And The Story Behind Them

I saw this idea on one of those “blog post ideas” blog posts, on a blog about blogging that I found on Pintrest hahaha. Does anyone else find blogs about blogging super duper annoying? Like, “here’s a list of 100 of the most generic blog post ideas ever”. Or “here’s how I went from no readers to 304957498679387520984 readers in only 3 months!”.  Riiiight I’m sure me paying a bazillion dollars for you’re online guide is really gonna teach me how to accomplish anything. Especially since it’s probably the most generic, vague thing ever. Haha I don’t even know why I bother reading those blogs every once in a while. I always end up super annoyed with how fake the people are and how hard they try to push their guides, tutorials, and “classes” onto people. Whatever. 😉

But I did see this idea for a blog post and I did think it would be pretty fun! Especially considering I take photos of just about everything, and have an interesting collection of memes and other photos from the internet, so I definitely have some fun ones on my phone! Not gonna lie though, I cheated a little bit and didn’t use any of the photos that I’ve posted here or on instagram. I figured seeing them for the 8 billionth time would be boring, so I skipped those. But other than that, these really are the last 10 photos on my phone. 🙂

10. Super Spiffy New Socks!

I love socks! Especially thick, warm socks, because unless it’s super hot outside, my feet are always freezing cold. The problem is that I’m also really super good at wearing holes into my socks (and even shoes!) at the very ball of my feet. I’m not sure how I do it, but that means I’m often obtaining new socks. Haha and the more exciting the better! I saw these at Hot Topic and I had to get them because the are adorable!

9. The Continuing Meme War.

So my husband and I are at all times in the middle of a meme war. We both spend an absurd amount of time scouring facebook, ifunny, Instagram, Pintrest, and a plethora of other pages looking for the best memes/internet posts, constantly trying to one up each other. Anything involving dogs is usually a very big win, but border collies are even better! 😉 Also, this is the best news headline I’ve ever seen.

8. Does This Even Surprise Anyone Anymore?

Of course I have a bunch of Green Day photos on my phone that I didn’t even take…Haha I want to say I got this photo from greendayauthority.com, but I couldn’t tell you with any certainty. Which really sucks because it’s a great photo from the Uno, Dos, Tre tour and I would love to give the photographer credit for their work (I always try to do that anyway). But anyway, this is one of my all time favorite photos from a Green Day show, and it’s currently the lock screen on my phone haha.

7. Partially Purple Hair, Don’t care.

Unfortunatly it’s not this purple anymore. It’s faded out super fast and that really sucks. But it was fun while it lasted (and I might end up doing it again). And in case anyone was wondering, I am the queen of bad selfies.

6. My Appendix Tried To Kill Me Once. Now I’m Short One Appendix.

Another meme from the meme wars. My husband actually sent this one to me, because I had an appendectomy when I was 13. Haha I swear I know more about appendixes now that I don’t have one, than I did back when I actually still had mine!

5. Winchester Knows How To Get Comfy.

Earlier this week Luke and I started cleaning out my brother-in-law’s old room since he doesn’t live here anymore, but left a piss ton of his stuff behind. So we packed up most of it and have it all in a pile for him to come take. Winchester found said pile and the dog bed on the very top of it all. He is currently very happy about this situation.

Haha alright, that was actually the most recent photo that I’ve taken that I haven’t shared anywhere yet. I underestimated how many photo’s I’ve actually posted here and on my other social media accounts, so I had to back track a litter further into my camera roll for the next 5 photos hahahaha.

4. I Am One Of Those Melodramatic Fools

My Basket Case eyeliner!! I’ve yet to figure out how to make it work on the tops of my eyes, but I’ve definitely got the messy look down on the bottom and I absolutely love it! 🙂

3. It’s Not Uncommon to Find Rabbits On My Furniture.

Daisy isn’t a fan of being picked up, or pet. But she does like the chill on the couch next to people and rub her face all over them.

2. My First Tattoo, Featuring My Appendectomy Scar.

It is incredibly hard for me to get a decent photo of this thing, which is exactly what I was trying to accomplish haha. It always ends up looking weird and distorted because of the weird angle. Haha oh well. It’s not like it’s a great tattoo anyway, but it’s mine and I love it. It’s also surprisingly holding up pretty well after 6 years of me having it. I was a little worried about all of the super light colors the artist used because those tend to fade faster on some people, but really the only color that actually faded out was some bright orange he put in between the petals. But the yellow, green, and bright pink has held up pretty well!

1. Go Figure The Last One Is Another Green Day Thing…

I had to go all the way back to December 28th for this one! Haha I share a lot of my photos on social media…Anyway, obviously I stole this from Billie Joe Armstrong’s Instagram account. But I liked the message to the “young rock n rollers”, so I screen shot it so I can have it forever hahaha. I’m such a total fan girl….

Alrighy then! Those were the last 10 photos on my phone (that weren’t plastered all over social media) and the stories behind them! I really hope you enjoyed this post because I thought it was a lot of fun and I just might end up doing this again! 🙂

Have a great Saturday everyone!!

Friday Fives: Birthday Wishlist

Yay! My birthday is next month!! I’m gonna be a whole 26 years old. Fun times! 🙂 Haha so I figured why not share 5 things from my birthday wishlist, because not gonna lie, I couldn’t think of anything else I wanted to write about for this “Friday Fives” post hahaha.

So pay attention family and friends who might be reading this! I know I’m pretty terrible at giving you guys gift ideas (I’ve been told this several times by many different people hahaha). So here you go! 5 specific things that I want/could use. 🙂

1. Thick Socks

First off, I love getting socks as gifts! My feet are always super cold in the winter and I’m really good at wearing holes into socks, so I always need new ones. But I like the super, crazy, super thick and warm ones for the winter months! They keep my piggies nice and cozy and prevent them from freezing off on our hardwood floors.

Also, yes, I do prefer men’s socks. They’re usually thinker and last a lot longer (not sure why that is). And I know that spending $12 on a single pair of socks might seem a bit crazy (the socks that are pictured below are my favorite brand and run around $12 at Bass Pro Shop) but trust me, it’s worth it!!

2. A New Hoodie

Since my new one was ruined in a conflict between my dog and some other dog who’s asshole owner was letting it run loose. Also preferably a men’s hoodie. I don’t like women’s hoodies. They are always too short and ride up and it’s super annoying…

Anyway, this Green Day one is a good one! Albeit kind of expensive.

3. All Of The Cute Headbands/Bows/Hair Clips

My hair is currently at a super awkward length. Headbands/bows/hair clips help. 😉 Hottopic has some pretty good ones.

4. Sleeping Beauties

Stephen King and his son Owen King co-authored this book together. I MUST READ IT!!! And I mean, Stephen Kind is my all time favorite author anyway, so either way I was gonna have to read it. 😉

5. Honey Stinger Waffles

A strange thing for one to ask for for their birthday? Perhaps. But these are my go-to running fuel and I could always use them!! 🙂

Processed with Rookie Cam

Alright, I am aware and fully acknowledge that that was a super lame “Friday Fives” but hey, they can’t all be winners haha. 😉 Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Friday and a fantastic weekend!

Friday Fives: Gear I Won’t Run Without

1. Road ID

I actually already have a post dedicated to Road ID, you can find that here. 🙂 But I had to mention it because I literally wont leave my front door without it. It’s not like I’m super paranoid that something is going to happen to me while I’m running or anything like that. But I like to know that if for whatever reason I can’t speak for myself, I have some very useful information right on my wrist.

2. Moisture Wicking Socks

I’m not all that picky when it comes to running socks. My one and only condition when it comes to socks is that they absolutely MUST be moisture wicking.

I forgot to change into moist wicking socks one time before a run. I only mad that mistake once, but I’ll never make it again! My feet were hot, moist and just felt gross during that whole run. I also got some pretty gnarly blisters! That was no fun… Ever since that day I check my feet at least 3-4 times before I start my runs haha. Maybe that’s a little bit obsessive, but at least my feet are happy.

3. Some Kind Of Hat

Ok, this one is kind of sort of a lie, as I used to never wear any kind of had unless it was cold outside and I needed to keep my ears warm. But I’ve been wearing a hat more and more, and at this point I’d rather run with one than without one, as they are usually quite handy! They help keep my hair out of my face, keeps the sun out of my eyes and shades my face whenever it’s really hot and sunny (and I’ve found that just getting a little shade on my face makes warm weather running marginally better), and if it’s raining I don’t have to constantly be blinking or wiping water out of my eyes, which can get super annoying after a while.

4. A Good Sports Bra

Oh man, I love me a good Nike sports bra! They’re what I’ve been wearing since I started running and I don’t often stray from them. They provide me enough support to keep me comfortable, and they have enough of a compression element to keep the girl strapped down and prevent them from doing too much bouncing.

I have worn a few Victoria Secret sports bras like the one pictured below. They are super pretty. usually pretty comfortable, and they make my cleavage look great haha. Plus I really like how easy they are to take off with the zipper in the front. But surprisingly enough they allow for waaay too much bouncing for my taste. Plus I always chafe under my arm pits when I wear them for too long. So I only tend to wear them on shorter, easier runs, and then stick with my Nike sports bras whenever I can. 🙂

5. My Phone

Technically an IPhone 6 isn’t really a piece of running gear. But I always take it with me, even if I don’t plan on listening to music. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it, because you never know. Some kind of situation could come up where I need to make a phone call, and it would really suck to not be able to do that.

Plus I never have to worry about getting lost! Haha I never have before, but it’s nice to know that if I somehow do, google maps will be there to guide me home. 😀

Is there any kind of gear that you wont run without?

Barefoot Running

I have decided to start dabbling in barefoot running!!!

This isn’t a decision that I just made on a whim, at least not really. I’ve been thinking about ditching my shoes (at least every now and again) for a while now. I’m not gonna lie though, aside from reading Born To Run (go figure, right? 😉 ) a few years ago, I’ve done little to no research on running without shoes. I do, however, have a whole childhood full of experience in running around with naked feet.

In the woods, pond, barn, gravel driveway, front yard, riding bikes, four wheeler, tractors, chasing feral kittens, or our chickens, it didn’t matter where we were or what we were doing, I can pretty much guarantee my sisters, brother, and I were doing it in our bare feet. Much to our mother’s displeasure, I might add. She didn’t appreciate us tracking whatever it was we had gotten into the house, and for that I cannot blame her.

So it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with doing things without something protecting my feet. I’m actually well versed at it. Like I mentioned before, I can walk on gravel in my bare feet without any issues. I’ve got some crazy calluses on my feet. I always have, and if anything, running has just made them more tough. I guess that’s not the most attractive thing ever, but hey, it’s functional!

Me and my sister Jessica, July 2013

What brought this all to the forefront of my mind was a pair of too tight shoes. Last Friday Luke, his brother, and I decided we were going to walk around the neighborhood at 11 pm to look at Christmas lights. Actually, they wanted to drive around in a car because it was freezing cold and they are warm weather people, but I insisted on walking. I had to suffer throughout the summer, so now it’s my turn to enjoy the weather, damn it!! Haha anyway, I was wearing the new pair of boots that they got me for Christmas. I didn’t realize how much those boots were squeezing my toes until I couldn’t feel them anymore about 1/2 mile into our walk. So I took them off and spent the rest of our walk in my socks, and man did it feel good! (That’s also how I ended up with my spiffy new snow boots, as we took those boots back the next day). It’s not like it had been a while since I’ve walked around either. Just this summer I spent a lot of time sans shoes, especially while visiting my parents.

Flip flops, socks, and bare feet. Typical. 🙂 Also, my crazy sock tan line makes my legs look dirty!

I don’t know, I guess that just kinda set off the thought that maybe I should try running without shoes again. Over the summer while my dad and I were in Colorado I spend some time running on a shitty motel treadmill in my socks, because I can’t run correctly on treadmills. I seriously destroyed a pair of shoes while running 3 times a week on a treadmill, back when Luke and I lived in an apartment. Plus, I already prefer running in Nike Free’s. I like being able to feel the ground under my feet, so why not take that to the next level?

“Why not indeed?” I asked myself .7 miles into my easy 1 mile run this morning. “My neighbors probably think I’m crazy anyway, what difference will taking my shoes off really make at this point?” I said to myself as I stopped at the corner and slipped off my shoes. And that’s basically the whole story of how I ended up running .3 miles, and right past the very busy civics center, in just my socks while holding my shoes in my hands. Yeah I got a few weird looks. 🙂

I guess that technically wasn’t barefoot running since I was wearing socks, but meh, close enough. I don’t particularly want to run on a dirty street with nothing protecting my feet anyway, I’d definitely go completely barefoot on grass somewhere people don’t frequent though. Anyway, having my feet free was a super pleasant experience and this is something that I’m definitely going to have to do regularly. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Have you ever run in bare (or socked) feet?

How do you feel about minimalist shoes?

Grey/blaze orange wool Browning socks, yay or nay? (It’s a definite yay from me!)
