Thursday Things

Hello, people of earth and any potential space aliens reading this! Haha hey, you never know! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

img_9008

First and foremost, can we talk about how freaking true the above photo is? Especially when you decide to chug two Not Your Father’s Root Beer Beer’s on a Wednesday night. I know that’s not a lot, but I don’t exactly drink often and chugging them in a short amount of time may or may not have gotten me a little bit tipsy and I woke up a little more tired than I probably should have and very thirsty. Oh well, that was an easy enough fix. πŸ™‚

Anyways, yesterday was Dean’s birthday!!!!!! My favorite running buddy turned 3 years old yesterday! We didn’t make him a cake like we did for Finn, but he did get a pretty good amount of raw, ground beef all to himself. So I think that more than makes up for it.

img_9018

I say he’s my favorite running buddy, but I actually haven’t run with him for a while haha. I need to though. He really enjoys running with me. I’ll have to do that after all of the salt washes off of the roads. I don’t like walking my dogs on all of that stuff. It’s got chemicals in it that I don’t want them getting on their feet.

And speaking of running (my segues on these “Thursday Things” posts are so freakin good, I know. πŸ˜‰ ), I didn’t do any one Tuesday or yesterday haha. After running on snow and ice on MondayΒ my legs were completely trashed and my left knee was a little bit sore. I suppose that’s not too surprising though. Running on snow is hard! So I took a rest day on Tuesday and spent a little bit of time on my stationary bike on Wednesday. Haha and actually, part of the reason why I didn’t run yesterday was because it felt like -12 degrees outside and I didn’t feel like dealing with that kind of cold. It just didn’t sound like fun.

It’s looking like we’re not gonna have to worry about the crazy cold for much longer though! I mean, look at Sunday. That’s basically shorts weather at this point!!

img_9073

It was still pretty chilly this morning though. It felt like 7Β  degrees when I woke up, which not gonna lie, felt a little bit toasty after -12 the day before hahaha. But since it was a tad bit warmer out and my legs felt a lot better, I figured I’d better do some running today. So I went out and did 20 easy minutes. I still had a bit of a niggle going on in my knee, so I figured short and sweet was a good idea for today. Plus there were still some icy patches on the road and that’s what more likely than not made my knee sore in the first place haha.

img_9080-2

So, Death Of A Bachelor kept me entertained during my warm up and run this morning, but I need some new albums to listen to while I run. Suggestions?? Please! I’m getting really bored with most of my music lately haha. I need some new tunes!

img_9079

Alrighty then! This is kinda super random, but aren’t all of my “Thursday Things” posts? Anyway, so a couple of months ago I saw an ad for this app called Achievement on Facebook. The ad basically claimed that you could earn a little bit of extra cash by being active. Of course I initially thought it was bullshit, but I did a little bit of research, downloaded the app, and discovered that it’s actually legit! Or at least it seems that way so far. So basically, you earn points by syncing apps like myfitnesspal, Strava, Garmin Connect, the FitBit app, Apple health and other apps like that, and basically just using them haha. It seems like you earn the most points by just logging steps but you still get a few by logging your meals, activities and what not. Then once you earn 10,000 they supposedly send you $10, either through PayPal or direct depostit. I haven’t gotten that far yet (I’m getting close though!) but I’ll let you know if I actually get $10!

img_9072

So obviously it’s not a lot of money, but hey, it’s something! And basically all you have to do is use health/fitness apps that you already use! And I’m not getting any kind of compensation or rewards, or anything like that for talking about this app. I just thought it was pretty spiffy and wanted to share it with you guys! πŸ™‚ If you’re at all interested, here’s Achievement’s website!

Anyway, I believe that’s all I’ve got to talk about for today! Haha now that the holiday’s are over it feels like I’ve just got nothing going on and very little to talk about at the moment. Especially since I’m just slowly working back into running and whatnot, so nothing very exciting is really happening right now. But I do have one race on the schedule in May and a few others that I want to do this year, along with all of my other running goals/plans. So hopefully before too long things will start picking up again! Haha but I just feel like I’m being kinda boring at the moment. Oh well, can’t do much about that except keeping up with what I’m doing. Which like I said, isn’t much, especially running-wise, but I do feel like I’m making some progress on that front. Slow progress. But progress nonetheless!

Happy Friday eve everyone! I hope everyone’s had a great week so far!!

Oh yeah, and I’m bringing back the blonde hair streak thingy!! I don’t remember if I mentioned that on here yet haha. I’m kinda over the whole black hair thing, so I’m just letting that fade and working on bringing the blonde thing back. Right now it’s kinda orange, but hopefully it’ll only take one more round of bleaching to turn all the way blonde again. Like everything I’ve got going on right now, it’s a slow process.

Ok, now I’m done. πŸ˜‰

5 Miles Yesterday, 3 Miles Today, 13.1 Miles in 24 Days

I am having a good week, running wise! πŸ™‚

I suppose Tuesday is a bit early to start declaring things like that, but so far it’s true! I got 5 miles done yesterday, mostly on a whim haha. The weather was nice and I felt too good not to do a a mid-ish distance run (well, for me it’s a mid distance run anyway. πŸ˜‰ ). I felt really good getting it done and I probably had a few more miles in me, but 5 seemed like a nice number for a Monday. I also had a bunch of fun looking at everyone’s Halloween decorations! Someone had a Pennywise balloon on a drain grate. That was pretty awesome.

img_7139

After running 5 miles yesterday I thought my legs would feel pretty tired (considering that I’m coming back from an injury and I’m probably not getting back into the running thing slowly enough, but whatevs πŸ˜‰ ) but they actually felt really good! Well, maybe they did feel a bit heavy for the first mile of today’s run, but after that they were fine!

So there’s a lot of construction going on around my neighborhood; people are re-doing roofs, the town hall (which I live right next too) is getting completely re done inside and out, the gas company has been digging on several different streets and so has the power company, and there’s a little bit of road work going on. So I spent a good amount of time dodging work trucks, backhoes, construction signs, and workers. Not gonna lie, I’m not a fan of running past these people. On several occasions they’ve thought it was a good idea to say some gross things to me, or just whistle and yell at me. Ugh, that’s no fun…but today I turned up my music, pulled down my hat, and just ignored them. Although I did catch a few of them staring in a way that made me wish I wasn’t wearing tight pants and a tank top, if you know what I mean…Haha I think I’m gonna start bringing Dean running with me again. He likes to bare his teeth at people he doesn’t like, especially when he knows I feel uncomfortable. That usually puts a stop to some of that nastiness.

img_2220

My sweet, laid back boy is very capable of looking and being vicious when he wants to, believe it or not. πŸ˜‰Β Β

But anyway, aside from the creepers this run was a lot of fun! I pushed hard on some of the uphills and ended up running my fastest 5k with this particular watch. Haha that’s not my actual 5k PR, but hey, I’ll take it! πŸ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

So yeah, my two good runs in a row have really boosted my confidence for the upcoming half marathon that I feel like I barely trained at all for thanks to my damn knee issue. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if I still feel that way after the 10 mile long run I’m planning to do this weekend haha. Hopefully that will go well and I’ll feel even more confident! Right now I’m thinking the half is going to be super slow, painful, and generally awful, but I also think that I’ll be able to do it, and right now that’s all I really care about.

Anyways, I think that’s all I’ve got for today. I need to go stretch out my legs and then I’m thinking a nap sounds nice. πŸ™‚

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Global Running Day!!

Global running day is a day for people around the word to celebrate the joys of running! And then post a photo of themselves running on social media with a caption about how much they love running, because pics/strava/garmin connect/instagram/facebook/you get my point or it didn’t happen. πŸ˜‰

I’m not saying that any of that is a bad thing by the way, obviously I’m a very active social media user, I’m just saying that that’s the world we live in. πŸ™‚

Being a runner myself, I’ve participated in the global running day or national running day festivities several years in a row now. Today, however, I’m celebrating a little bit differently. Instead of waking up super early and hitting the pavement for the 5 miler that I wasΒ supposed to do this morning, I woke up super early and then went back to bed.

84125d28-650a-4f95-8829-3dd8a3121242

Can we talk about how teeny tiny Dean used to be?!? Because holy cow he was a tiny little fluff ball!Β

I’m just not feeling good enough to run today. I guess the running challenge that I’m participating in, all the work I’ve been doing in my garden, and all of the super early mornings that summer running requires (at least my summer running requires super early mornings. Gotta get out on the road before the sun heats up the pavement!) have caught up with me. That’s not all that surprising though, I’ve changed things up a bit and have been trying to do quite a bit as of late, so a day off of running is exactly what I need!

I’m not going to lie though, since today is global running day and the fact that I am doing a running challenge, IΒ almost went out to suffer through a few miles. Now, there are some times when you should push through the discomfort and get your run in, but for me, today was not one of those days. I’m getting a little bit better about listening to my body and today it’s telling me that I need to rest, so that’s what I’m going to do! I’m not about to risk getting injured or burning out by running on a day that I shouldn’t have, just because everyone else is doing it.

So by all means, go out and celebrate global running day because running is great and it should be celebrated! But if you’re feeling like me today and you just need a break or a day off, then take one! Don’t think that since today is basically a running holiday that you need to go out and pound the pavement just because everyone else is doing it. Rest is part of the program and there’s absolutely no shame in doing it. Even if it is global running day. πŸ™‚

Weekly Recap: November 28th-December 4th, 2016

Monday:

  • 10 minutes (2.3 miles) on the stationary bike
  • 1 mile run

Temp runs scare me, so I’ve decided I need to do more of them. Obviously this one was super short, but 1 mile is a good place to start! I warmed up for 10 minutes on the stationary bike, ran my mile at a “comfortably hard” pace, then walked 10 minutes to cool down.

Tuesday:

  • Easy 30 minutes
  • 15 minutes of blogilates ab workouts

Didn’t want to get out of bed. Didn’t feel like running either. Got up and did 30 easy minutes anyway.

Wednesday:

  • Intervals
  • 15 minutes of lower body work

For Wednesday’s workout I warmed up with an easy mile, ran for two minutes, walked for a minute, repeated 9 times, then cooled down by walking for about 10 minutes. I would have liked to have gone a little faster, but that just wasn’t happening. I had fun though, and at the end of the day I think that’s more important than hitting certain paces. πŸ™‚

img_0170

Thursday:

  • 1 easy mile
  • 1 hour of bowling in the evening (totally counts as a workout πŸ˜‰)

I totally forgot to change my socks before this run. I also had to double check that I was actually wearing running shoes before I started. I think that pretty much sums up Thursday morning. Still got my mile done with my favorite running buddy, though. πŸ˜„

Friday:

  • 1 easy mile

Nothing fancy on Friday. I was starting to feel like I was coming down with a cold, so I didn’t do much that day.

Saturday:

  • 45 minute run

The original plan for Saturday was 6 miles. I’m not feeling too well today though, so I thought I’d try to go for just an hour. At around 40 minutes my throat was really starting to hurt, so I went for another 5 minutes and then decided to call it a day. I’m not upset though, I’m just glad I got out there and did something!

Sunday:

  • Easy 1 mile

Feeling a little bit better today. Still only did one easy mile since Sunday is usually my rest day.

Total Weekly Mileage: 12.99

Weekend ShenanigansΒ

For once in my life, I’m kinda glad the weekend is over! Don’t get me wrong, I had a lot of fun, but Luke and I were quite busy and I’m glad I can finally get back to my normal routine.

Friday morning we drove home from Illinois. I did my mile in the morning right before we left to keep my streak alive, then we spent five hours in the car. Good times. Actually, this particular trip didn’t feel as long as it usually does. I guess for once Luke and I managed to keep each other busy. πŸ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

We got home around 5 pm, which isn’t too bad. Surprisingly we didn’t run into too much traffic. I actually thing this is the first Thanksgiving where we made it home in the usual amount of time. One year there were a ridiculous amount of wrecks and accidents, another year there was just a crazy amount of people out on the road, and one year it snowed. A lot. It took us almost 8 hours to get home that time.

Anyway, after we got home we unpacked our stuff from the car, ate dinner, chilled for a little bit, then went to pick up some Christmas gifts. On Black Friday. At a big department store… I don’t know if you know this about me, but I don’t particularly enjoy the company of many people. I’m a hardcore introvert, I don’t like big crowded, and for some reason, some people turn into complete animals on Black Friday. They have to make sure they get their discounted shit into their carts then to the register as fast as possible, and if you get in their way they’ll run you over with their cart because they are the most important person in the world… Long story short, we got what we were looking for and lived to tell the tale.

On Saturday Luke got shit done. And I helped! πŸ˜‰ First we went grocery shopping, then did a little more Christmas shopping, mailed his brother and sister’s gifts to Minnesota, went to Walmart for a tote to put our left over canning jars in and more Christmas lights. Got home, stored the canning jars and put away the groceries, hung the Christmas lights, and then I finally got my run in. Haha I was getting a little worried that I would run out of daylight to get it done! I don’t have any night time running gear so that would have been an issue. Luckily the sun was just starting to go down when I did my mile with Dean.

Sunday was spent playing Pokemon and cooking. After I did a 3 mile run, that is. πŸ™‚ A week or so ago Luke bought a turkey and we never got around to baking in, so we decided to cook our own little Thanksgiving dinner. So we had turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans (mmmmm and they were fresh too, no canned or frozen stuff here!), and of course pumpkin pie! That was a really good dinner, and now we have our own leftover! No one tried to send any home with us this year, which is weird, but whatever. πŸ™‚

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a good weekend! Happy Monday!!

Weekly Recap: September 12th-18th, 2016

Monday:

Oh man, my legs were so tight and awkward after a week of sitting. The yoga was much needed and felt soooo good! πŸ˜„

9c4078e5-363d-4be6-aaf9-741c10ec290e

Tuesday:

Tuesday went a little bit better! My legs were less tight and awkward. Still only did a mile though, I don’t wanna push anything and re-injure myself. πŸ˜„

Wednesday:

  • 2 easy miles

Worst. Run. Ever. This is why coming back from taking time off sucks so bad, it’s really really tough at first…

Thursday:

  • Rest Day

This is officially my favorite yoga sequence for IT bands! My left IT band was feeling tight on Thursday, but this video took care of that. πŸ˜„

Friday:

  • 2 easy miles
  • 5 minutes of foam rolling

No shin pain and no toe issues! Yay! I actually felt really good on Friday and I should have kept going, but I just stopped for no reason.

Saturday:

  • 4 miles

I ran in the evening on Saturday! Hahaha that’s kinda a big deal for me. I’m definitely a morning runner, and if I don’t run early I usually don’t run at all. 😝

Anyway, thanks to my little speed demon, the first two miles of this run were way too fast and the second two were way too slow. But it was all around fun.

Sunday:

  • Rest Day

Luke’s planning on making a bunch of jam and cheese and stuff today, so I’m not sure how much resting I’m going to be doing.

Total Weekly Milage: 10.27

I’m gonna go ahead and say that’s not too bad considering last week’s milage was a whopping 0. I still feel like I’ve been the worlds worst runner this week though. I know I need to rest and slowly get back into the swing of things since my toe still isn’t 100% healed. I just feel like there’s more I could do, ya know? Oh well, next week is a shiny new chance to do just that! πŸ˜„

Weekly Recap August 22nd-28th, 2016

Monday:

  • 30 easy minutes

Now that it’s not so ridiculously hot out I can start running with Dean again! He’s just as excited about that as I am!!

Processed with Rookie Cam

Tuesday:Β

Ugh I wasn’t feeling too great on Tuesday. Every single interval got slower as I went. Not ideal, but at least I did it. And I hatched a Seel, so I’d say it was a productive workout. πŸ˜‰

img_8438

Wednesday:Β

  • 30 easy minutes
  • 30 minutes (7.2 miles) on the stationary bike

Nothing exciting to report from Wednesday. It was just another nice and easy day.

img_8445

Thursday:

I’d sayThursday was a successful rest day! At the very least I got lots of stretching done.

Friday:Β

Friday was kinda tough. I didn’t sleep well the night before, my hamstrings were crazy tight, it was super humid, and I got out too late so the sun was out. It’s ok though, Green Day makes everything better. πŸ˜‰

img_8467-1

Saturday:

My long run was super wet, muddy, slippery, and slow this week. But all that mud was kinda fun.

img_8484

Sunday:Β

  • Rest day

Thank goodness! My legs are done haha!

img_8485

Total weekly mileage: 17.39

I’ve been stuck in 10 mile weeks for like, 2 months, so I’m supper happy with this week’s milage. I’m so mentally weak and the heat just destroys me, but once I get even the slightest hint of cooler weather I perk right back up haha. There have been some bumps (and mud and water) on the road so far, but I think training for my second half marathon is finally starting to go well and in the right direction! I am officially crazy excited for this race!!
