Weekly Recap: February 18th-24th, 2019

Well this week sure was interesting!!

Luke and I kicked it off by his office building having an electrical fire and me getting a root canal. Fun times, man. Fun times. ๐Ÿคฃ Luckily no one was hurt in the fire, and the engineering firm Luke works for got their shit together very quickly and everyone was back to work in just a few days. And my root canal went well. It’s healing and that’s just one more of my shitty teeth that’s getting taken care of. ๐Ÿ™‚

So yeah, it wasn’t a bad week. Just an interesting one!

Monday:

  • Rest day

Monday was the day the root canal and office fire went down. You can read all about that here, if it suits your fancy. ๐Ÿ˜Š

So since I got my mouth drilled on and was told to take it easy for the rest of the day I did not run. Or do much of anything else when we got home from the dentist’s/a little bit of shopping. ๐Ÿ˜‚ It was nice though because Luke was home so we got to hang out and be couch potato’s together.

Tuesday:

  • 2 miles

On Tuesday Luke went to his work to pick up his laptop, just incase they ended up being out of work for a while. While he was gone I ran two easy-ish miles. They felt pretty good and I might have pushed up a small hill a little too hard. Hence me not really wanting to call this an easy run even though that’s what it was supposed to be. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Wednesday:

  • 5 mile fartlek

Holy cow my legs were sore!!! And I’m not sure why? Running on slippery snow last Saturday? That doesn’t seem to likely… Sitting in a dentists chair for like 40 minutes? Maybe? Charging up a small hill the day before? I seriously doubt it. I can’t emphasis enough how small of a hill it was… Haha oh well. It is what it is.

Despite my sore legs this run ended up being AMAZING! There was snow. There was ice. And there was lots and lots of slush! What’s not to love?!? Hahaha this ended up turning into a 5 mile fartlek and I had a ridiculous amount of fun doing it! I’d have to slow down on the slush and snow, walk over ice every once in a while, but once my feet found solid ground I would take off and run as fast as I wanted to until I hit another patch of snow. It was great. Sometimes the weather conditions create the perfect workout for you. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thursday:

  • 3 miles
  • 30 minutes of Pilates

Luke went back to work on Thursday. Honestly it’s really good that the company is up and running again after the fire, but I was hoping he’d get a couple of more days off because I was enjoying spending so much extra time with him. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Anyway, I woke up stiff, sore, and tired Thursday morning. Doing speed…I was gonna say work but really it didn’t feel like work. I guess I’ll go with play since that’s basically what “fartlek” means anyway. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So speed play on snow, ice, and slush will do that to a person. No regrets though! It was just too much fun.

So Thursday was spent doing 3 easy miles. Hahaha I kinda overdressed for this run though. There was snow on the ground but that was super deceiving. It was actually kinda warm out. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Friday:

  • 2 miles

Nothing too exciting or fancy on Friday. Just two easy miles to get the legs moving. They needed it after Thursday! The Pilates workout I did was no joke! ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday:

  • 8 miles

It was cold, windy, and rainy Saturday morning! I often get asked what I do when it rains, in regards to running. My answer; I get wet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, my 8 miler went alright. My legs were still feeling a little bit tired and batting the wind wasn’t exactly fun, but other than that I can’t complain. It wasn’t the best long run, but it certainly wasn’t the worst! ๐Ÿ˜„

Sunday:

  • Rest day

Yay! Another well earned day off!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Spent my Sunday bleaching/dyeing my hair. Typical Sunday for me. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hair stuff and more Law and Order: SVU. It was nice.

Total Weekly Mileage: 20

I’ve been really consistent with hitting 20 miles every week for about a month now. I believe it’s time to start upping my mileage again! Feeling good and ready to take on my upcoming 10k in April! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Happy Sunday!

February 18th, 2019

Wow today ended up being a really weird day!

My dentist appointment for my root canal was today. Luke took the day off from work to take me because he’s awesome like that. ๐Ÿ˜Š Originally he was planning on using sick time. He has something like 130 hours of it that he rarely ever uses.

Anyway, while we we’re on our way to the dentist’s office one of our friends (who works in the San building as Luke but on a different floor) called Luke and asked him where he was. He told Luke that there was a small electrical fire and that they were evacuating the building and telling people to go home. Obviously Luke told him he wasn’t there and that he was taking me to the dentist, and figured that was basically the end of that. He was mostly just excited that he wasn’t going to have to use his sick time anymore. ๐Ÿ™„

So we get to the dentist and he does his thing to one of my particularly bad teeth. You might remember last years whole tooth saga of me finally having to go to the dentist and have other teeth taken care of. I have some pretty messed up teeth because…well I’m not sure actually? Genetics? I actually take pretty good care of my teeth. I was just unable to see a dentist for a very long time because I couldn’t afford it. Anyway, my new dentist is a super cool dude and has a whole treatment plan written out. It’s going to take a while to actually get everything done (like, years) because insurance only goes so far and dental work is incredibly expensive…

But luckily today’s root canal went very well! The whole process went smoothly and I’m on my way to having one more tooth taken care of. Next week I go back for a temporary crown and then about two weeks after that I go again for the permanent crown. And then after that I have to wait because that used up most of our insurance for the year along with $500 out of pocket. Luckily Luke had $600 is his HSA account so we didn’t have t scramble to come up with that.

Once the dentist was done and with my face still incredibly numb, Luke and I went to a near by Vintage Stock. Mostly just to kill time, but also to see if the had anything cool. We didn’t find anything particularly interesting, so we left and went to Walmart to get some Halo Top for me since eating after a root canal is hard. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Then after that we went back home.

Awkward mirror selfie in Vintage Stockโ€™s bathroom. I couldnโ€™t feel half of my face. ๐Ÿ˜‚

When we got home we just kinda hung out for a while. I’m still binge watching Law and Order: SVU so that’s what I spent the afternoon doing. I was told to take it easy for the rest of the day so I didn’t run. I figured that was fair considering I did have drilling done on my mouth. ๐Ÿ˜‚That and I was just tired. But I also think that was root canal related. They really aren’t too bad, but it’s still kinda stressful on the body! Also, eating when your mouth is still kinda numb is hard. ๐Ÿ˜‚ That didn’t stop me from eating my Halo Top though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Around 4 pm Luke got an email from his work. They currently can’t have people in the building because of the fire this morning so the whole building and several other offices here in Kansas who run on the same network are just off of work until further notice. They have to repair the damages, clear out the ventilation system, find what started the fire, and whatnot, so the building has to be closed.

Luckily no one got hurt in the fire and everyone is still getting paid, thank goodness!! They’re all kinda just on unplanned vacations (without having to use vacation time ๐Ÿ˜‰) until further notice. Sure that’s probably going to cut into the company’s profits, but this is a multi billion dollar company, so they really aren’t going to be hurting too badly. Plus none of that really affects Luke and all, so he’s just kinda stoked that he’s getting a little vacation!

So yeah. That was our day! ๐Ÿ˜‚ It was definitely an interesting one!

Happy Monday everyone! I sure hope you didn’t have to get a root canal or have your office building catch on fire today! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lets play a fun little game!!

My dog.

Not my dog. ๐Ÿ˜†

Now in the morning whenever I let my dogs out, Ozzy comes right over. Haha I guess he gets bored and lonely while my neighbor (his owner) is at work. But this morning after he hung out in my yard for a little bit and bothering my chickens, he hopped my fence and was running around the easement….So I spent 15 minutes trying to get him back into my yard so at the very least he’d be safe and wouldn’t get hurt or lost. So eventually I got him back into my yard, made all of my dogs go inside, so he got bored in my yard and went back home. Oh man, this is getting a little annoying. I’m not about to keep an eye on that dog all day everyday. I like him, and he’s very sweet, but he’s not my dog (although he seems to think he is whenever my neighbor isn’t home, because he tries to come into my house when I let my dogs in), and not my responsibility. I’d feel terrible if something were to happen to him, but I can’t spend all day checking up on him and making sure he’s where he should be. Hopefully once the new fence gets built between our two yards his escape artist antic will stop.

Since I had to spend some time wrangling a dog that doesn’t belong to me, I got out on the road a little later than I would have liked. But luckily I had only planned on doing 2 easy miles today, so it wasn’t too big of a deal. It’s not like the weather would have really been much better anyway. It was 73 degrees, 85% humidity, and sunny. Yuck. That on top of the fact that I’m still kinda red and itchy from the antibiotics that I took one whole dose of for my root canal made today’s run not so fun. But I did it and that’s all that matters. ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_1886

Seriously though, penicillin and cindamycin give hives, andย azithromycin gave me a rash similar to what the other two antibiotics do, but it was much more mild. So when the dentists office called to check up on me yesterday (which I though was really nice) I told them about it and was told to stop taking theย azithromycin. So, totally not sure what kind of antibiotics I would take if I had an actual infection. I guess I’d just have to tough it out. But luckily the last time I actually had an infection that needed treated with antibiotics was when I was 13 and had an appendectomy. I don’t remember a lot from my time in the hospital for that. I was on a lot of morphine haha. But I think they might have just continued to give me penicillin and just kept an eye on the hives it gave me. Because I remember being itchy the whole time I was there and don’t remember ever getting a different antibiotic. Like I said though, I was on a lot of morphine so I could be totally wrong about that haha.

img_1851

It’s kinda hard to see in this photo. Especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. But I’m still a little red, bumpy, and itchy from theย azithromycin I took 2 days ago.

Luckily aย benadryl helped with the itching on Monday, but they make me so tired that I haven’t taken another since then haha. But the rash is definitely going away and not as bad as it was on Monday, so that’s good. ๐Ÿ™‚

My mouth/tooth area is feeling a little bit more sore today that it did after I got the root canal on Monday and yesterday. It got to the point where it woke me up a few times last night. I think I might have bit down on it weird at some point. Maybe even while I was sleeping. That and I haven’t been doing a good job of taking the pain medication the dentist gave me. He told me it would probably be a good idea to take one in the morning for the next few days as a preventive thing and then one every 6-8 hours after that as needed. But I only took one before I went to bed last night. Woops haha. I just don’t like taking medication, especially pain medication before I run. It’s only an 800 mg ibuprofen, but still… Hahaha and the endorphins from my run seemed to help with the discomfort I was having this morning anyway! ๐Ÿ™‚ Probably going to take another one before bed tonight though and hopefully I’ll be able to sleep a little better tonight than I did last night.

So since I had the root canal on Monday, I’ve been trying to stick with soft, easy to eat food. That meant that yesterday pretty much all I ate was 2 muffins and some rice and guacamole. Yeah, that wasn’t all that great…Easy to eat though haha! So today I made a point to eat some stuff that was a little more nutritious, including a berry/oatmeal smoothie, more rice and guacamole (this is one of my favorite combinations right now haha. Trust me, it’s delicious) with a fried egg this time, and a pint of ice cream. Oh and Luke made hamburgers for dinner so I had to had to have one of those. They were delicious! ๐Ÿ™‚ But at the very least I got a little more nutritious than yesterday haha.

But anyway. Other than my tooth being a little bit sore and it being hot in general, my day has been really good! I plan on running a little further tomorrow, so I’m gonna have to wake up earlier tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll sleep a little bit better tonight.

But anyway, I suppose that’s all for today!

Happy hump day!
