Green Day At The Sprint Center 8/11/17 Part Two: The Actual Green Day Stuff

Alrighty, so yesterday I left off at the end of our pre show shenanigans. My brother, Luke, and I were all in our seats waiting for the opening band to come on. So not gonna lie, I’ve been complaining since we got the tickets about how Rancid (my second favorite band ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) toured with Green Day in Europe but now that both bands are in the US they’re both doing different tours. Currently Rancid is touring with the Drop Kick Murphies and they aren’t spending very much time in the Midwest…sad face. Oh well, maybe one day I’ll get to see Rancid live. Anyways, Catfish and the Bottlemen are currently touring with Green Day. At around 7:30 pm the lights went out and they came on.

I don’t really know much about them, not gonna lie. Before Friday I had only ever heard one of their songs and that was because I had looked it up on YouTube haha. I don’t think they’re exactly my cup of tea, but they were really good!! Lot’s of energy and a great stage presence, it was pretty fun! Definitely a good way to get pumped up for Green Day haha. I gotta say, I do kinda feel for opening bands. I mean, most people are obviously there to see the headliner and don’t really care much about the opener. Luke and I were both among that group of people. They played for about half an hour but after every song Luke and I would look at each other and wonder aloud if that was their last song. I guess that’s kinda mean, but we were their to see Green Day, dammit!! Plus their lights kept shining directly into our eyes and that kinda sucked. I swear I’m not trying to bash them too hard though, they were still really good!!

Once they were done with their set the lights came back on and the stage crew came out to set up for Green Day. Once they were about done setting up, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen started playing over the loud speakers. Now if you know anything about Green Day’s live performances or have seen the YouTube videos, this is something they’ve been doing for a while now before they come out on stage. Everyone sings along and it’s amazing! ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha so I couldn’t find a video of the crowd in Kansas City (no suprises there), so here’s a video of the crowd at Hyde Park on July 1st. Kansas City wasn’t this epic. Obviously there were a lot less people there, but we all still sang and it was still pretty great!

So after Bohemian Rhapsody the Drunk Bunny (who’s also been a staple at Green Day shows for quite some time now), comes out to Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones to get everyone pumped up! As if we needed even more pumped up at that point. We were all very ready for some Green Day!!

Here’s a better photo of the Drunk Bunny from a different show. ๐Ÿ™‚ Source.

Onceย Blitzkrieg Bop ended the Drunk Bunny made his way off stage and Green Day’s opening music started playing over the loud speakers and everyone who knew what that meant lost their damn minds! Then once the band started making their way onto the stage everyone else realized what was going on and they lost their minds too! ๐Ÿ˜‰ It was great!!

Green Day didn’t waste much time getting into their opening song; Know Your Enemy. Haha I think Know Your Enemy might be my least favorite Green Day song ever, but I have to admit I was pretty stoked to be seeing it live (and for the second time too! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). Plus I already knew that was what they were going to open with because I’ve seen pretty much every set list from every show from this tour at this point. Pathetic? Maybe. But I do not care haha! Anyways, it typical Green Day fashion, Billie Joe didn’t waste any time pulling a fan up onto stage to sing and then stage dive. That’s one thing I absolutely love about this band, they’re all about crowed participation!! ๐Ÿ™‚ And This kid was freaking awesome! He knew the words to the song and really did stage dive! Here’s a video if you wanted to experience his awesomeness for yourself. ๐Ÿ™‚

After Know Your Enemy they moved into Bang Bang followed by Revolution Radio. I was pretty excited to see both of those played! And it seemed like the rest of the crowd was too!! They band also looked like they were already having a great time. Billie Joe was running around stage like an absolute mad man and you would have sworn there was no way in hell that than man was 43 years old.

At this point things kinda start to blur together for me haha. I mean, obviously I know what happened and I could probably list off the set list from Friday night pretty accurately (I looked it up just to be safe though ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) but there’s just some stuff that I don’t remember exactly when it happened, but it most certainty did, so I’m just gonna do my best at remembering when all of this happened haha. I guess I was just a little bit caught up in the moment and the absolute euphoria of seeing my all time favorite band (and for the second time too!! I feel like not everyone can say that they’ve seen their all time favorite band more than once).

Anyways, after playing the first two singles from RevRad they moved onto some stuff from American Idiot! Fucking sweet!! I mean, who doesn’t like AI (haha a lot of people don’t actually, but those people are wrong. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). Anyway, we got to see Holiday, Letterbomb, and Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, in that order. That was kinda weird actually, on the actual album Boulevard of Broken Dreams follows Holiday and that’s normally how they’d play it live, but I guess it was kinda neat to have it switched up a bit. Plus I was just super excited to see Letterbomb live. I’ve always wanted to and now I have. ๐Ÿ™‚

Once they finished withย Boulevard Of Broken Dreams Billie Joe (and maybe Jason White, they’re other guitarist, but like I said I don’t remember exactly) ran off stage to change guitars, while Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool played together for a bit and then started off Longview (a classic from their album Dookie). Billie Joe walked back on stage proudly showing of “Blue” his first guitar and asked the crowed “how many old school Green Day fans are out there tonight”, before playing the song. Many people screamed at the top of their lungs, myself included. ๐Ÿ™‚

They also pulled another fan up on stage to sing the last verse of Longview. He was a lot of fun! He was obviously having the time of his life haha!! And of course Billie Joe made him stage dive too.

So just a quick side note, one of the reasons I wanted to do the Longview halfย as my first half marathon and why I want to keep doing it is because I’m obviously reminded of the song. My life is in fact just one giant Green Day reference. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After Lonview the moved into Youngblood another song from Revolution Radio (and one of my favorites too!). If you’ve never hear the song, one of the lines is “she said fuck you I’m from Oakland”, so in the live shows they usually have the crowd sing the “fuck you I’m from Oakland part. But once we got to that point Billie Joe told us to say “fuck you I’m from Kansas City” (so of course we did) and at the end of the song he told us not to tell anyone from Oakland that he said that and that Raider’s nation can be a little crazy (hahaha I had to ask Luke about that, but apparently Oakland and KC are football rivals.).

After that he asked if there were anyย reallyย old school Green Day fans out there, and again, I screamed. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And then they went on to play 2,000 Light Years Away (which I got to see back in 2009 too! ๐Ÿ™‚ ), Hitchin A Ride (on of my all time favorites), When I Come Around (which isย alwaysย a blast live!), Welcome To Paradise (which is always lots of fun), and Minority (another of my favorites!). Haha the only problem with Minority was that a bunch of people didn’t know that they were supposed to do the “fuck ’em all” part in the middle of the song, so that was a little weak and disappointing. Haha but of course I was ready for it and it was still fun to get to scream that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now I think at some point in the middle of all of that Billie Joe said he felt like shit because he ate McDonald’s for the first time in like, 5 years. He went on to explain that it was like a one night stand. At the moment you want it and it’s great, but you totally regret it the next day. I mean, that wasn’t word for word or anything, but that’s the gist. It was pretty funny.

Then they moved back to a few songs from American Idiot. This time it was Are We The Waiting and St. Jimmy. Ah man, that was fucking great.

After that they pulled yet another person up on stage. This time to play guitar for a Knowledge cover. They’ve been doing that a lot this tour and it’s pretty awesome! The kid they pulled up on stage totally killed it and we all chanted his name when the song was over. I’m sure that was a surreal experience for him! He also got to keep the guitar he played and then Billie Joe dedicated the next song, which was Basket Case, to him. Lucky bastard. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Then after Basket Case they played She, and then King For A Day.

So King For A Day has also been a staple in Green Day shows for a while now and it is a lot of fun! After King For A Day they usually spend some time covering some songs and this show was no different. Billie Joe sang a little bit of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, (I can’t Get No) Satisfaction, and Hey Jude. That’s like, all they’ve been covering lately, so it was a tad bit disappointing that there wasn’t anything different thrown in there, but oh well, it was still a lot of fun and there was plenty of crowd participation. ๐Ÿ™‚

In the middle of all of that Billie Joe went on one of his speeches (this is the point of the show where he usually does). I don’t remember all of it word for word, but he talked a lot about love and equality. That it was ok to be a freak and a weirdo or whatever and that even if you feel alone in life you never really are. How he came from a fucked up family and how everyone came from a fucked up family, but that’s what makes us all different and awesome. And how everyone deserves to be treated with love, respect, and deserves health care. Haha he just casually slipped that in and if you weren’t really listening you probably would have missed it, but it was fucking awesome.

I’m kinda surprised he didn’t say anything about the Westboro Baptist Church being there, but I guess he kinda didn’t have to. I mean, they were out there trying spreading their hate and bigotry, while he was preaching love and acceptance. Basically what I’m trying to say is I think it’s kind of ironic the the WBC thinks Green Day is a problem when really it’s probably them. And that’s why I was kind of excited when I found out that they’d be there before the show (and why my brother and I look so happy in the picture Luke took of us in front of them. That’s in this post if you want to see it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

Once they finished that spectacle they finished their set with Still Breathing and Forever Now. Oh man, that was amazing!! At this point I was absolutely exausted and I had no idea how they were still up there running around on stage, singing, playing instruments, and obviously having just as good of a time as we all were. That was pretty much the moment that I realized that everyone in Green Day is probably in much better shape than I am haha.

Ok, so I say they finished their set with Forever Now, but that’s not really true haha. They said it was their last song, but everyone knows that they always play an encore. Well, that’s actually not true. After Forever Now a bunch of people got up to leave haha. But I knew they were gonna play on encore. Actually, they always play two. A regular encore and then Billie Joe plays an acoustic encore. So After a few minutes Green Day came back out on stage and played American Idiot followed by Jesus Of Suburbia.

Oh. My. Gosh. I was soooo ridiculously happy about that!! Like I’d mentioned in a post about what songs I wanted to see them play, Green Day has the crowed sing the first few lines of American Idiot and that’s such an awesome experience! And then I’ve been saying I hoped they played Jesus Of Suburbia since we got the tickets!! It’s one of my all time favorite songs and they totally killed it!! It’s a 9 minute song, it was at the end of their set, but the still put everything they had into it and I was super impressed. Like I said, at that point I was exhausted, but I was on my feet and singing my heart out to that song.

After Jesus Of Suburbia the rest of the band left the stage, Billie Joe came out with his acoustic guitar and played 21 Guns. Again, he had the crowd sing a few line, a bunch of people had their phone flashlights on, (and a few people ever had lighters!), and Billie Joe said it was beautiful. It really was too. It was a magical experience. ๐Ÿ™‚ After 21 Guns he played Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) which is the song they end ALL of their shows with. Haha I think Good Riddance is always a bitter sweet experience. Because everyone likes seeing it live, it really means something at the end of the show, but at the same time, it means the show is over and you have to go back to your normal life haha.

So during this tour Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool have been coming out on stage at the end of Good Riddance and Billie Joe’s been making Mike Dirnt play the last few cords of the song. After the song was over the took some bows, threw their extra guitar picks and drumsticks to people in the pit, exited the stage, and that was that. Then we had to go back to our normal lives. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Except first we had to make our way out of the stadium, into the car, out of the parking garage, navigate through terrible traffic, and then go back to life as usual haha. That was all crazy, but we made it. ๐Ÿ™‚ My brother said he had a lot of fun and Green Day was definitely a great show for his first concert. And Luke and I both thought this show was better than the one we saw in St. Louis back in 2009. It was soooo much fun! And the band must of had a bunch of fun too, because right after the show Billie Joe got on Facebook live and said that it was a great show and that this has been a great tour so far! ๐Ÿ™‚

Alright. That’s it. I’ve officially relived it all and this’ll probably be my last Green Day post for a while (probably haha). Not gonna lie, just writing this wore me out all over again. But I’d totally do it all again in a hear beat. I hope eventually we’ll be able to see Green Day again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyways, I hope everyone has a great day!!

Green Day At The Sprint Center 8/11/17 Part One: Pre Show Shenanigans

Ah man, post concert blues are hitting me kinda hard today (in my experience most people call it ” post concert depression”, but I feel like that might be a bit insensitive to people who actually suffer from depression. I do not. I just have crippling anxiety, but it’s whatevs, I’m getting a little off point here. ๐Ÿ˜‰). So what better way to remedy that, than by reliving the night?! Haha I feel like that might be a bit counter productive, but I’m gonna do it anyway!

So, let’s talk a little bit about last Friday, shall we? Obviously we’re going to get to the Green Day stuff, but there are a few thing I want to mention because we get there.

Alrighty! Lets start off with the reason why I didn’t do a long run last week; I’m a huge fucking klutz! But I think you might be aware of that by this point. I’m really really good at getting myself hurt and that’s exactly what I did on Friday. And it turns out I actually hurt myself twice and didn’t realize it until Sunday, but we’ll get there. First first lets talk about how I basically flayed part of my left pointer finger…

Friday is trash day in my neighborhood, so Friday morning I went to put my trash can and recycle bins out on the street, no big deal, right? Well apparently not haha! So, we have this pretty big pane of glass in our garage. The people who lived in this house before us left it and we’re not entirely sure what to do with it, so it’s just been propped up against the wall, behind the recycling bins. I guess it somehow got knocked over and was resting on one of the recycle bins and I didn’t notice (surprise surprise) and when I moved the bin the glass fell and my first instinct was to catch it. Of course once it did broke into 3 or 4 smaller pieces and one of those pieces sliced my finger. It wasn’t bad enough to need medical attention (I think ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), but I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding for a while and it seemed to get worse whenever I let my arm hang down for too long. So yeah, I figured running with a bleeding finger was probably a bad idea…And I guess I hurt my calf during the concert because I was an idiot and wore a pair of shoes tennis shoes that always make my feet hurt and obviously I was on them for a while. Bad idea on my part.

Anyways, so after I finally got the trash and recycle bins on the street, I took my parents dog Niko for a walk. He was at my house because my brother drove from Illinois (where he’s currently staying with my grandma) to Kansas on Thursday for the concert, and I guess he’s currently taking care of Niko for my parents. So yeah, I walked him, then Lily, then I showered, and then my brother and I began our long wait for Luke to get home from work.

We passed time by watching Family Guy for a while, then I straightened my hair, put on a bunch of eyeliner, got dressed, and then had to wait for two more hours haha. So I spend that two hours watching for any Green Day updates on twitter, and kinda sorta stalking the band on Instagram. Haha they tend to do a lot of posting before shows, so I wanted to see it if they did. ๐Ÿ˜‰ During my internet time wasting I found a post on twitter that said that the Westboro Baptist Church was going to be across the street from the Sprint Center to protest Green Day! Haha I think I may have gotten a little too excited about that, but I was kind of interested in seeing these people in real life. I mean, I’ve seen plenty of new stories about them, but that’s just not the same.

It would appear they actually did their research! I’m actually pretty impressed! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Anyways, Luke finally got home around 4 pm, showered, ate a snack, and then we all watched one last episode of Family Guy haha. Then around 5 pm we all  loaded into the car, were I checked the tickets about 8 million times to make sure I actually had them in the envelope haha.

I was so ready to go!! Haha I was trying to give a thumbs up, but that wasn’t working too well with my bandaged, bleeding finger.

On the way there we got caught in a bunch of traffic. Haha I was getting worried that we were going to end up sitting on the highway at a complete standstill, end up running late, and missing the Westboro Baptist Church. I told you I was excited about seeing them!! And my brother and Luke were too! It’s not often you get to see that much hate and bigotry in person. Well I mean, it’s not often that I do, but anyway…Luckily the traffic kept moving (slowly at times, but it was better than just sitting there) and we ended up in making it into Kansas City around 6:10 pm. We drove past a few parking garages looking for something cheaper than a $20 parking fee, but it would appear that all the parking garages charge the same amount depending on the event, so we ended up having to pay the $20. That kinda sucked, but oh well. The parking garage we ended up at was right across the street from the Sprint Center, so that ended up being very convenient! While walking out of the parking garage some guy tried to sell us some pretty shitty quality Green Day t-shirts. Haha he said they were the exact same as they were going to be at the merch stands but for half the price. But they looked like shit and they weren’t even the right color! They we had a lot of pink on them, but that was very wrong. They were supposed to look like this, but with the tour dates/cities on the back;

Processed with Rookie Cam

Ah man, that was pretty amusing. Anyways, we made our way out of the parking garage, crossed the street, and that’s where we saw them; the Westboro Baptist Chruch!! Haha oh man, they has some pretty hateful signs, were playing poorly parodied songs, and were singing and dancing and laughing at us laughing at them. Oh man, so many people were taking pictures and videos and openly mocking them. I mean, that probably wasn’t the best response to these people, but I mean, it’s hard not to laugh and make fun of people openly spreading hate like that. And it’s not like they were open for any kind of civil conversation. I’m pretty sure a few people tried, but they just got shut down.

It really is weird how excited my brother and I were to witness this kinda thing in real life. But I mean, it was pretty interesting.

So we watched them for a little bit, took our own photos (obviously ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), witnessed the radio station who had a stand set up there raise the volume on their own music to drowned out the Westboro Baptist Church people (that was pretty great ๐Ÿ˜‚). Then we lined up to get into the venue and walk through the metal detector. Haha I had to warn both my brother and Luke not to bring any pocket knifes as they are specifically banned from the Sprint Center. I mean, I also tend to carry a pocket knife, but they sent me an email stating that, so I figured I should warn them as well.

Once we got into the lobby I handed Luke and Noah their tickets, told them to hang on them for dear life, and then we debated whether or not we wanted to stand in the long ass line to get t-shirts. While we were debating it, we kinda drifted into the line and we just ended up waiting haha. But the people working there were totally on to of things and were working very quickly so we actually didn’t spend too much time waiting in line. They had some pretty nifty stuff, but it was also pretty expensive! Haha if we had an unlimited amount of money I would have ended up with a super awesome Green Day blanket ($60), a drunk bunny plush ($35), a Green Day hoodie ($60), several different t-shirts (all of which ranged from $30-40), and Revolution Radio on vinyl. Obviously we didn’t have an unlimited ammoount of money, but Luke was kind enough to get my brother and I t-shirts. Noah got one like the one I posted above (the RevRad album cover) but with the tour dates/city on the back, and I got a pretty freaking awesome baseball T, with the American flag made out of barbed wire on it. It’s pretty freaking awesome!! Luke didn’t get one because while he likes Green Day, they aren’t his typical kind of music and he doesn’t really like wearing band T’s anyway (but I bet if he found a shirt with Corey Taylor’s face on it he’d totally wear it! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

After we got our T-shirts we got scanned into the actual venue, found a food stand, got some crazy over priced pretzels and a bottle of water. Except they took the bottle of water and poured it into a plastic cup. That was really weird…I’ve been to plenty of concerts and usually they open the bottle for you and keep the cap. Whatever. Once we had our snacks (which I ended up sharing with my brother because he didn’t get anything and it was a pretty big pretzel haha), we found our seats and settled in for the next 45 is minutes before the opening band to come on.

View from our seats. They weren’t very good, but hey, at least we were there!! ๐Ÿ™‚

We spent most of that time talking, listening to the kick ass music they were playing on the speakers, and people watching. I also spent some time checking the band’s social media accounts because I’m crazy fangirl. Mike Dirnt Ended up posting something on his Instagram story, so that was pretty neat. ๐Ÿ™‚

So yeah, this is ending up to be a lot longer than I had originally thought, so I’m gonna wrap this up right here for now. Tomorrow I’ll talk about the actual Green Day stuff that went down on Friday, so there’s that to look forward to!

Have a great week everyone!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I Am The Happiest Of Campers

Oh man you guys! Green Day was absolutely amazing last night!!! It was a fucking awesome show, the crowd was amazing, and it was an all around great experience! It looked like the band was having just as much fun as the crowd was! And right after the show, Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day’s frontman) got onto Facebook live and talked about how awesome the concert was, how much fun they had, and how great this tour has been. That was pretty awesome!!

Anyway, I’m exhausted emotionally and physically (haha sometimes I forget how much I can relate to some of their songs and how emotionally invested into their music I am.), I feel like I’m hungover even though I didn’t have anything to drink, but I’m still currently riding the high from last night! Haha I feel like those post concert blues are going to hit me at some point. They’re very similar to post race blues, actually. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But for now I’m the happiest, physically/mentally battered person you’ll ever meet. Haha I guess that’s pretty similar to finishing a hard race as well!

That’s all I’ve got for now. I’m going to go threw the photos I took, look for better photos on the internet, find the set list from last night (at this point I could tell you want songs they played, but not the exact order haha), gather my thoughts, rest, hydrate, shower, probably run, shower again, an THEN I’ll work on a full recap of the show.

We were kinda far away, so I didn’t get many good photos. But in all fairness, I wasn’t trying very hard haha.

Anyways, I hope your Friday was as amazing as mine was! I’m so happy right now! EVERYTHING IS GREEN DAY AND NOTHING HURTS!!! But if it wasn’t, smile, it’s Saturday! ๐Ÿ˜

Tinman Challenge Day 8

Taking the day off from running yesterday was exactly what I needed! Aside from my legs feeling really heavy (and I have a feeling they’re going to stay that way for another week or so, since I’m upping my weekly/monthly mileage with this challenge) I felt great!!

Not gonna lie though, I’m definitely not enjoying the fact that I have to wake up at 5 am. I’d probably feel a little better about it if I actually went to bed a little bit earlier haha. And in all fairness, I really do want to get to bed earlier, but Luke likes to stay up until 10 pm and then wont stop talking until 10:30-11 pm. And when he finally shuts up it takes me like half an hour to finally fall asleep. Basically what I’m saying is that it’s all Luke’s fault that I don’t get enough sleep. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I’m lucky enough to be able to nap in the afternoon, so I’ll definitely be doing that later today. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, my run this morning went pretty darn well. The daily running guide for the Tinman Challenge called for 5 miles today, so I ran those 5 miles and had fun doing it!

As much as I complain about having to wake up early in the summer, it does have it’s benefits. During my run it was about 57 degrees, the humidity was only around 76%, and there was a nice little breeze going on. So there was no drowning in my own sweat or dying of heat exhaustion today, which is always a bonus when it comes to summer running. And being able to watch the sunrise is pretty neat too, I will admit, but I still prefer fall/winter running over summer running. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Listening to Revolution Radio was another reason why this run was so much fun. Hahaha this album came out in October and I’m still not over how good it is!

So today’s run brings me up to 12.61 miles for the week so far and 23.61 miles for the month! I believe I am right on track to hit 93.3 which is the goal of this challenge that I’ve embarked on. I already knew I could accomplish this goal if I really worked toward it, and so far all I’ve done is confirmed that fact. So while this challenge is pretty difficult, i’m totally crushing it so far, and that’s super exciting. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, like I had mentioned before, my legs were feeling really heavy and a little bit tight, but after about 2 miles they finally loosened up a little bit. Now that I’m done running though they are feeling a little bit worse than when I had started, so I’m definitely going to have to do some stretching and foam rolling today, because I’ve got another 5 miler tomorrow, and then a 6 mile run on Sunday. Fun fun fun!

But before I do any of that, I need a snack and another cup of coffee!

Wishing you lots of fun, safe, and happy summer miles!

Highlights Of The Year: General Life Stuff

Holy cow guys! There are only two days left in 2016. How crazy is that?! Is it just me or did this year fly by?

As the year is coming to a close, I thought it would be fun to look back at some of the highlights from the year. This is just going to be general life stuff that has nothing to do with running. I’ll be posting my running highlights tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Puppy Party!

Dean turned a one in January and Lily turned 6 in February, so of course we through them a birthday party. There was cake and everything!

We got bunnies this year!! We spent 8 hours building a rabbit hutch that Luke designed himself. That was a fun day (and I only mean that a little bit sarcastically). Then we got Daisy in March and Rey in April. The original plan was only one, but Luke found Rey on craigslist and she was so floofy and adorable so he picked her up that very day. I’m glad we ended up with two though, they took to each other right away and now they are pretty much inseparable.

They’ve been a lot of fun to take care of and play with. Plus they are just too cute!

Our garden did super well this year! We got soooo many tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers that we literally didn’t know what to do with them all! But that’s usually a good problem to have!

We’ve been a able to feed the bunnies pretty much for free from stuff from the garden. They really enjoyed the broccoli plan leafs and tomatoes. They also really like bananas, but we have to buy those obviously haha.

We also have a shit ton of stuff that we’ve canned. I’m pretty sure at one point we had 12 jars of pickles? Even if it wasn’t 12, it was a lot. We also have a bunch of tomatoes, pickled tomatoes, and tomato sauce.

Oh and I grew a watermelon!! Only one and it was kinda small, but last year I tried so so so hard and I just couldn’t get one to get big enough to eat. But this one did and it was really yummy! Maybe next year I’ll be able to get two watermelons. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My dad turned 50 this year

I’m super glad Luke and I were able to go to Illinois and celebrate with him and the rest of my family. We always have a good time when we’re all together, especially my dad and I. Haha I’ve kinda always been a daddy’s girl. ๐Ÿ™‚

Colorado road trip

This was another good time with my dad! One day he just randomly showed up at my house because he was driving from Illinois to Colorado for his work, and Kansas is quite conveniently right in the middle. So he hung out with us for a while, ate dinner, and napped on our couch. At some point he asked me to go with him, so around 5AM the next morning we were on our way to Colorado!

I spend most of our time in Colorado in a motel room. We didn’t exactly get to do much the week we were there because my dad was there for work, but the things we did do totally made up for it! We walked on a really nice nature trail, hiked at Lory State Park, and then the day we went home we drove up Pike’s Peak.

Pike’s Peak was amazing! The day we went there was a half marathon so I got to see the finish line, and a whole mess of runners, some of whom I talked to. Good times. ๐Ÿ™‚

While we were at pikes peak we hiked to the top of this really neat rock formation. Oh man, trying to hike upward at 14,110′ of elevation is freaking hard! It was a lot of fun though! ๐Ÿ™‚

I know that was a lot of pictures, but Colorado is a beautiful place! You can read more about our Colorado adventures here (Colorado Bound), here (The Sunflower State and Colorful Colorado), here (Colorado Adventures Part 1), and here (Colorado Adventures Part 2).

Revolution Radio

I, along with every other Green Day fan out there, have been waiting a little bit impatiently for 4 years for new Green Day. I’ve talked so much about this album on here that it’s not even funny, so I’m just going to say that it was totally worth the wait and is officially one of my favorite albums ever.

I think that pretty much covers everything from this year!

What are some of your highlights of 2016?

Did you go on any fun adventures?

Do you have any adventures planned for 2017?

Alrighty then, I’m going to start off this post by getting really real; PMS is kicking my ass this week. The week before my period is literally the worst thing to happen to my running. I’m don’t seep well so I’m always tired, I’m usually kinda nauseous in the morning, my legs don’t want to seem to move, and I’m just in a surly mood. Gross…

At least I got 3 hours of deep sleep last night. That’s a slight improvement.

So yeah, my running has hardcore suffered. I skipped my run on Monday because I was too tired to even consider it, Tuesday I should have hit 3 miles but I skipped the cool down after my interval workout so I didn’t quite make that, and yesterday I had every intention of doing 4 easy miles but after 2 I was just like “fuck it”. Jeez I’m such an awesome athlete; skipping workouts, cutting them short, missing strength workouts. I’m obviously doing everything I can to improve. Did I mention that I’m in a surly mood?

Tuesday and Wednesday’s workouts

I guess to put a positive spin on this so far ย super whiny post; at least peak week is done. And it went really well too! I didn’t skip any workout or mileage, and I felt pretty good throughout the whole week. So I mean, one bad week doesn’t define my whole half marathon training experience. Although right now it feels like it, but at least can look back at weeks like last week and remind myself that I do like running, I am ready for this half marathon, and that things will go back to feeling better soon. Training has its ups and downs and that’s totally normal and ok. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ’œ

Speaking of half marathon related stuff (great segue way, well aware ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), I’m almost down the two week mark! In 16 days I’ll be back at Longview Lake and kicking ass! Well, hopefully. Either way, I’ll be there and I’ll be giving it my all.

At this point last year I was like, hardcore freaking out, but now at this point I’m pretty excited. I think that 12 mile long run last week definitely helped build up my confidence. Last year the longest I went before was 10 miles. Not exactly a great confidence builder.Plus the fact that I’ve already covered the distance once is probably helping with the whole confidence thing. Either way, I’m excited to run this race for the second time!

As race day gets closer I’ve been thinking more and more about what I want to do and accomplish after this half. I already talked a little bit about this here, but I definitely want to improve my strength and speed. So I’ve decided I need to do hills and lots of them. Haha that’s as far as I’ve gotten, but I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, ya know?

I feel like that pretty much covers everything running-wise. A this point running is the most exciting thing going on in my life, but I’m ok with that.Too much excitement before a big race isn’t necessarily a good thing.

My sister is still still talking to me about running. She’s recovery really well from her surgery and is slowly building up mileage. Yesterday she ran/walked a little over 5k, which is awesome and I’m so super excited for her! Hopefully sometime soon we’ll be able to run together, and I’m sure by the time that happens she’ll kick my ass because she’s speedy and I’m not. But to my credit, I can go farther than she ever has, so I mean, at least I’ve got that going for me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don’t know what’s going on with the weather, but I’m super duper unhappy about it. It’s the end of October for pete’s sake! It should be cold!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ It definitely doesn’t help knowing that it’s snowing in other parts of the country, but we’re back in the high 70’s here in the Midwest. Sad face…

Last night Green Day played in STL at a super awesome/super small venue. Not gonna lie, not being able to be there kinda hurt, but I’ve decided a long time ago that I’m never going to be lucky enough to see them play at a small venue. A few weeks ago the announced their stadium tour dates for early 2017 and none of them are anywhere near Kansas City or St. Louis so that’s a huge bummer. If they completely skip over the Midwest like they did for the Trilogy tour (although that one was cut short for other reasons) I’m going to be super pissed. Can you tell I’m a little bit bitter? *sigh* It looks like they had lots of fun last night too…

I suppose that’s all I’ve got for today, plus I desperately need to dye my hair. I have a bad habit of letting it get really bad before I fix it, but it’s such a long and boring process! So I’ll leave you with the very last song from Revolution Radio. That’s right, I’m finally done haha! Seriously though, Ordinary World is a fantastic song and a great way to end an awesome album. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thursday Things

Started my day off with my daily does of Green Day! Last night they performed at KROQ in LA and part of it was streamed live. I didn’t get to watch it live since Luke and I were watching the presidential debate, so I watched the replay this morning. Good stuff!!

Normally I would have begun my day with  a run and all the things that go with that (eating, stretching, shower, eating again, you know what I’m talking about), but today’s a rest day. Yay! No seriously, I’m very much happy about that. I’be been crazy tired lately. So instead Lily and I went for a nice 2 ish mile walk. That kinda made me wish I was running this morning, the weather was amazing! Ah well, we still had fun.

After that I did 20 minutes of yoga for strength and flexibility. I very much needed that. I’m super tight and I’ve been skipping strength stuff. Mostly because I’ve been tired and strength training is no fun…

Anyway, I think I’ve figured out why I’ve been so tired; I haven’t been eating enough. Or at least I don’t think I have been…but yesterday I ate waaay too much. Like, I had a shit ton of pasta 3 different times during the day, a bunch of toast, cereal, ect. I guess it’s pretty obvious that my body was hardcore craving carbs. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Even though I kinda went over board, I felt soooo much better. So today I’ve been trying to eat a little more and a little better, and so far so good! I made these oatmeal banana muffin things so that I’d have something healthy readily available. I mean, pasta is great and all, but one can’t live off mac and cheese and tortellini alone. Unfortunately…

I’ll probably share the recipe for these bad boys at some point. They are super yummy and crazy healthy! ๐Ÿ˜„

So I’ve got those along with a bunch of healthier carb options at the ready for when I need them. I definitely need to be getting more protein as well, but carbs are just more fun…Maybe I’ll start mixing some protein powder in with my coffee in the morning. I’ve heard that works really well for some people.

On the bright side, I’ve been drinking plenty of water, so at least I’ve got that going for me! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Anyway, I haven’t exactly been a productive person today. I’ve been kinda sniffly and feel like I could be coming down with a cold, so I’ve done a lot of Netflix-ing today. Hopefully it’s nothing some hot tea and a good night of sleep can’t fix. But I suppose it would be better to get sick now that on race week. Only 23 more days to go!

So yeah, that’s all I’ve got for today. I guess I’ll leave you with Troubled Times. Which I feel is a quite accurate description of the time we live in. Especially after watching the presidential debates (and that as in depth about politics as I plan on getting).
