Stay Spooky

I saw this shirt on Etsy on Friday and I was like, “I absolutely NEED this!!” So of course I bought it. And it’s already here!! It literally shipped a few hours after I ordered it and I couldn’t believe it! That’s the fastest I’ve ever had an online order come. So I’m a super happy camper! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Here’s the link to the Etsy shop I bought it from. I definitely recommend this shop! Obviously because my order got here so quickly but also because the shirt is great quality, super comfy, and bat!!! ๐Ÿฆ‡๐ŸŒ™

This wasn’t sponsored or anything. Just wanted to share a neat find!

Anyway, Today was a rest day! Yay!!

I sure needed it! I’m actually not sore or anything today. I’m just feeling tired, depleted, and a little bit dehydrated. When I woke up this morning I almost felt sick. Once I got some breakfast and water in me I felt a lot better. But still. A day off from running was definitely needed.

So, this morning I drank a bunch of water, watched Kiki’s Delivery Service, and did a DIY face mask. I love DIY beauty stuff. I know exactly what’s going onto sand therefore into my body. Everything is natural without any weird ingredients, chemicals, or preservatives.

This face mask is super simple, is only made up of two ingredients that just might already be in your kitchen (they’re definitely staples in mine!), and leaves my skin feeling super silky and clean! So literally all you do is mix one part raw honey with one part coffee grounds (they can be fresh but I usually use the used grounds from my morning cup of coffee. โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿ™‚), apply evenly to your face, let it sit for 30 minutes, then wash off. That easy!!

I may or may not have borrowed my husbandโ€™s shirt for this. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Since raw honey is antibacterial so it’s supposed to be great for acne. It’s also full of antioxidants so it’s supposedly good for anti-aging. Coffee is supposed to be good for circulation and is therefore also good for anti-aging. Plus it’s a natural exfoliant so it helps remove dead skin cells from your face and is also supposed to be good for your complexion.

Now I’m not sure how true all of that stuff is. I just know that it makes my skin feel nice and I like the way it smells. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Plus it’s relatively cheap and easy to make if honey and coffee are staples in your kitchen. And I’m all about cheap and easy! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, it was a nice morning.

This afternoon was relaxing and uneventful. Mostly I continued my binge listening of ATWWD while doing some light housework.

This evening Luke and I took Lily to the vet the have the staples from her surgery removed. That was pretty quick and easy! Lily has healed beautifully and is now able to resume her regular activities which is great! Hahaha I was getting tired of yelling at her for jumping up onto the couch or bed because and for running too fast. Things she wasn’t supposed to do because it might rip her staples out. Obviously she was confused about all of that because she’s never been yelled at for doing any of that before. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But we’re past all of that now and things can go back to normal in her life.

Anyway, that’s all for today!

Happy Monday! I hope you have a great week!!

Stay spooky, my friends,

Half Marathon Training Day 4

Rest days seem toย simultaneously go by really fast and really slow. Like the day just seems to drag on but then I’ll look at the clock at it will be 3 pm and I’ll feel like I’ve accomplished absolutely nothing productive during the day. Haha maybe it’s just that running makes me feel super accomplished!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Honestly though, it’s probably because running has become such a big, ingrained part of my life that when I don’t do it I feel a little off.

That being said, rest is super important! And as much as I’d love to be one of those people who can run 5 miles everyday (seriously, people like that really exist!), but more and more I’m learning that I’m just not lucky enough to be one of those people. I’ve tried streaking several times and it can get pretty hard for me just to keep up with running 1 mile every day. And now that that is something that I’ve become more aware of, it’s also something I’m becoming ok with, if that makes any sense? Like, there have been many days that I feel guilty for taking the day off and resting, and honestly the more I think about it the more I think that’s kinda sad. No one should ever feel bad for taking a break and allowing your body to heal. That’s something that’s kinda super important! Especially when you want to be the very best runner that you can be!

That being said, I did consider doing a few easy miles this morning haha. Mostly because my run on Monday was super disappointing, but when I woke up this morning I was tired, sore, and just felt like all sorts of nope. So instead I did a crazy amount of laundry (I don’t know why I let it pile up so much…), took Lily for a nice long walk, bathed her (Finn got bathed yesterday and Dean’s getting a bath tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), played with the bunnies for a while, recorded a vlog (which I’ll probably post to vidme tomorrow because I’m feeling too lazy to edit it right now), and then did some reading. Fun times!

So tomorrow’s a cross training day, not so fun times, but since I took today off (like my training plan told me to, I should add) Friday’s fartlek workout should be even more fun! I mean, I already love fartleks and now I should be nice and rested and ready to go! Haha if you couldn’t tell, I’m super stoked about this half marathon training cycle at the moment. I’m sure in a few weeks that wont be the case, as I tend to have a lot of ups and downs about my feelings towards running/training. But I’m super jazzed up right now so I’m totally gonna roll with that and hopefully hang onto that feeling for as long as I can!

But for today I’m enjoying slowing things down, resting, and trying to be optimistic about the mountain of laundry that I have to go deal with now…

Happy Hump Day!

Rest Day Ramblings

I am very veryย very glad that today was a rest day! I guess the combination of a new puppy, weird sleep scheduled, attempting to stick with my training plan, but not really being able to do as much recovery stuff as I’d like to has all caught up with me today. Well, yesterday actually. For my long run yesterday I wanted to go for 7-9 ish miles, but I quickly realized that wasn’t going to happen. So I went for 5 and called it good. ๐Ÿ™‚ And it was pretty good. I felt tired and my legs didn’t want to move, but they weren’t bad miles by any means. I did, however, wake up with super sore legs and that kinda sucks, but oh well.

How pretty is my peach tree! I can’t wait for fresh peaches this summer!

Anyway, for the last two or three days, Finn’s been waking up and crying at around 1 in the morning. He doesn’t have to pee or anything, trust me I’ve tried. He just wants to wake up and play. So I’ve been ignoring him when he does it. Luckily he doesn’t cry for very long, but it still sucks having your sleep interrupted like that. Especially for a few days in a row…He’s lucky he’s so cute or else I’d be mad at him haha. I’m really hoping he picks up on our scheduled soon though. I’d also be really happy if he’d finally get on board with the whole crate training thing. He’s not a fan of the crate and cries every time he gets put in it, even when he’s super tired. I’ve never had a little puppy like him fight crate training so hard, but Luke and I are being super persistent. He needs to learn.

He prefers sleeping on people’s laps.

Staying on the subject of dogs, well kind of at least. We’ve had some very much needed rain over the weekend! And it’s supposed to be pretty rainy for most of this week as well, which is great! It’s been super duper dry here in Kansas and we really need the rain. Plus it’s great for our garden! I’m hoping by the end of the week some of the seeds we planted will germinate and then start coming up. The only problem with all of the rain is mud. Lots and lots of mud. And when you have 3 border collies, 2 of which have super hairy feet and are basically impossible to get all of the mud out unless they get a full blown bath, 1 puppy who likes to roll around in the mud, and 1 dog that doesn’t belong to you but lives in your house and also likes to roll around in the mud, well I think you get where I’m going with this. My floors are basically just made of mud at this point. There’s dirt everywhere. I feel like my house is never going to be clean ever again.

img_2506

Dean is well aware of how dirty he is and how unhappy I am about it. Ah the joys of dog ownership. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So along with all of the muddy nastiness, our ย front loading washing machine has been completely fucked up. A while back Luke and I had to take it all apart just to clean out a filter that was super hard to get to. After we did that it started working perfectly fine again. For about a week…After that it started reading all sorts of weird error codes, the door wouldn’t unlock unless you unplugged it for an hour and then plugged it back in, it would just randomly fill with water so I had to start turning it off, and eventually it stopped draining and so for about a week it was just full of nasty, mildew-y water and it smelled terrible. Needless to say, I haven’t really been able to get much laundry done.

Yesterday Luke and I were completely fed up with it and didn’t want to take it apart again, so we went out and bought a top loading washing machine. While we were at the store, we figured we might as well get a new vacuum as well. Ours is pretty old, and is constantly getting clogged with dog hair, because my brother-in-law’s dog sheds like freaking crazy (I really need to start brushing him every day…). So we talked to a sales associate, and he recommended a Dyson. He has the exact model that we bought, along with 2 Irish Setters (which he showed us pictures of haha). That’s actually why we ended up buying this vacuum. He said he’s had his for two years and it’s never gotten clogged, but even if it did get clogged this vacuum has a bunch of ways to clear anything out without having to take the whole thing apart, which totally sold me! I’m very much tired of having to take apart my old vacuum. It was a little more expensive then we would have liked, but we’re hoping that means we wont have to replace it anytime soon.

img_2516

You know you’re an adult when you get excited about a new vacuum and washing machine haha.

Most of my rest day has been spent doing laundry and battling the invasion of the mud and dirt with my fancy new vacuum. It’s pretty much a loosing battle, but hey, I can try! I’m just excited that I can finally do laundry again! Between being a runner, having a husband (he can be kinda messy and doesn’t know how to do laundry ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), and having so many pets means that our laundry piles up very quickly! Plus the house smells sooo much better now that we’ve got the old washing machine that was full of gross water out of the house. It’s currently sitting in the garage, and I’m not sure what we’re going to do with it now, but at least we’ve got one problem solved!

So anyways, I ate like total shit last week. Too much junk, too much sugar, not enough vegetables, not enough water. It wasn’t pretty…So when I stepped onto the scale this morning I thought that I had probably gained a pound or two, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that I didn’t gain anything! I weighed in at 158.5 pounds, which is what I weighed last week. I have absolutely no idea how they heck that happened, but I’m sure not complaining! I also ate pretty darn well today, drank enough water, and am feeling pretty good! I’m definitely feeling like I’m back on track, have my food intake back under control, and hopefully I’ll start loosing some weight again. ๐Ÿ™‚ I really want to not hate the way I look in a swimsuit while we’re in Florida in July, I wanna look awesome for the Green Day concert in August, I want to be a better, more efficient runner, and I want to be an all around healthier person. I’ve gotta keep reminding myself of those things whenever I make food choices.

I hope your week is off to a great start! Happy Monday everyone!

Rest Day Ramblingsย

Oh man, I’ve really been looking forward to my rest days at this point of my half marathon training! Looking back, I was pretty much in the same boat around this time last year as well, so I suppose that’s pretty typical. Although this time around I’m not dealing with any injuries (knock on wood). Last year my left IT Band was giving me issues, my right hip was in an almost constant state of low grade pain, and my left shin started giving me trouble after the race and has been pretty much ever since…I’m thinking I’ve got a handle on it this year though. It’s been kinda sore, but with the help of ice and compression it seems to be doing just fine! ๐Ÿ™‚

Since I was dealing with all sorts of hurts last year, I only got two 10 mile long runs done. This year I’ve already done two and I’m planning on doing one or two more. Probably only one, though. The thought of going two weeks before the half marathon without a 10 mile long run kinda scares me, but the thought of not being properly rested scares me even more. Plus last year I went close to three weeks with hardly any running at all (well it sure felt that way), so I should be pretty much good to go this year! Haha I guess tapers are just scary in general.

Anyway, instead of running this morning Lily and I went for a nice 2 mile walk. It was nice and chilly and sunny. This week we’ve had some really awesome fall weather! Unfortunately after today the temperature is going to start rising and we’re going to have a few days with highs of 80 degrees. Sad face…Hopefully that wont last long and the cold will come back quickly, but for now I’ve just been enjoying the nice weather while it’s been here.

I kinda wish the leafs would hurry up and start getting some color though.

So, guess who’s tired of Revolution Radio? Definitely not me! I’d say I was beginning to think I have a problem, but I’m already well aware of that. Hence this whole situation;

img_5414

Yeah, I literally have no shame…On the bright side, I know exactly what my half marathon playlist is going to be; Insomniac, American Idiot, and Revolution Radio. That’s all I’m going to need. I mean, last year I ended up talking to more people than I listened to music, but I like being prepared because you never know.

I suppose I’m done rambling for today (I’m not done fangirling, though). So for now I’m leaving you with the fourth track from Rev Rad. Definitely not my favorite song from this album, but I still enjoy it.
