Weekly Recap: July 2nd-8th, 2018

Hello and happy Sunday, friends!! πŸ™‚

So, this week my weekly recap is going to be a little bit different, because, well, I only ran once this week. And aside from that one run and a lot of walking, I haven’t done much else to supplement my running fitness or anything like that. Honestly I’ve just needed a break! The crazy heat wave we got last week has subsided a little bit. We haven’t had any more excessive heat warnings or anything like that, but it’s still been pretty hot out and that just completely wears me out. I needed a break from super early mornings, toughing it out on the treadmill, and from just constantly worrying about how I was going to get in a decent amount of miles for the week. That was all just getting too exhausting, so I took a break. πŸ™‚

That being said, I’ve still had a pretty busy week! Obviously the 4th of July was on Wednesday, it was Luke’s birthday on Friday, and we’ve been walking around like crazy because both Luke and I have been hardcore playing Pokemon Go again haha. So let’s recap this week, shall we? πŸ˜‰

Monday:Β 

On Monday I woke up feeling tired and dreading the thought of even lacing up my running shoes. At that point I figured I probably just needed an extra rest day so I decided not to run. Although that evening Luke and I walked around the neighborhood and caught Pokemon on our phones.

Tuesday:Β 

  • 1 treadmill mile

I hopped on the treadmill on Tuesday with the intent to do a few miles, but after one I was just done. Running on the treadmill is hard. Probably more so mentally than physically, and mentally, I was feeling a bit burnt out. So after that one mile I hopped right back off the treadmill and called it good. That’s when I decided I probably needed a little break from running haha.

Luke had a softball game on Tuesday night, but after he was done at that we were back at it with the Pokemon thing. We stayed out until 2 am taking over the gyms in our town and catching stuff. Excessive? Yes. Totally worth it? Absolutely!

Wednesday:

So since we were up until 2 in the morning the night before, we didn’t wake up until 9:30 am on the 4th. Once we did though we were crazy busy! First we brought the chicks outside and put them in the coop, so they could run around out there for the day. We also did a little bit of work/maintenance on the chicken coop. After that we took the dogs to the park so they could run around a little bit. It was pretty hot out though, so we didn’t stay there long. So we brought the dogs home, checked on the chicks to make sure they were doing alright outside, then drove to Walmart and picked up a few things. Did some work around the house after we got back from the store, and then got ready for the evening’s festivities.

We ended up going to some 4th of July event at school with my brother-in-law, his girlfriend, and her kids. They made it sound like this super awesome thing with lots of games, activities, and live music. But the games were all for little kids (and didn’t look very fun for them either), there were no activities for adults, and the live music sucked. So we literally sat at the playground for 3 hours and watched her kids play. It was highly disappointing. And on top of all of that, there were a bunch of people out there vaping, including my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. You couldn’t really go anywhere without walking through a cloud or two of nasty vape shit which is kind of a problem for me, because I have asthma and that stuff really bothers me. And the people who vape don’t seem to give a shit if they’re hitting a bunch of other people with the gross clouds of fruit scented chemicals because “it’s just water vapor”. Bullshit. It’s a lot more than just water vapor… And some dude kept walking in front of me at the playground and kept blowing it right in my face. So that was fucking great. I spent the next two days coughing, hacking, and feeling like shit because people who vape are inconsiderate assholes who don’t give a shit if their vape clouds are bothering other people.

But at least the fireworks were decent.

Thursday:Β 

I didn’t do much on Thursday. I felt too gross after being exposed to all of that vape nastiness the day before.

Friday:

The 6th was Luke’s 27th birthday! Yay!!

It was also another eventful day! We woke up at 6 am so we could get in the crazy long line for the DMV before the place was even open, because Luke’s driver’s license expired that day. Seriously. We got there at 6:30 in the morning, half an hour before it was even open, and there were at least 40 people in line ahead of us. But Luke got it taken care of, at 8:40 am we finally walked out of the DMV with Luke’s temporary ID (because Kansas mails them to you? In Illinois they printed them out right there so you didn’t have to wait for them). Once that was taken care of we went and got some breakfast and then went to the trail that I used to run on everyday when we lived in the apartment. Luke wanted to play Pokemon Go for his birthday, so we spent over 3 hours on that trail walking around haha. Even though it was crazy hot, it was a lot of fun, and we got a lot done in our games.

At around 2 pm we left the trail, went to Aldi to get groceries and pick up some stuff to grill for Luke’s birthday dinner. His brother, his girlfriend, her kids, and their two dogs came over that night to celebrate. But before they did Luke made sure his brother knew that they couldn’t vape at our house anymore. I was still coughing pretty bad that day and was kinda struggling walking around on the trail earlier. So luckily they FINALLY listened to him and they didn’t (trust me, this was not the first time both of them have been asked politely not to do it around me. But my brother-in-law’s girlfriend literally told me that she usually doesn’t think about it or try to keep it away from other people. That is exactly what I was talking about before…). Anyway, we all ended up having a good night! My next door neighbor came over too because, when doesn’t she come over? πŸ˜‰ Haha we don’t mind though, she’s a cool kid. So we all ate ribs and cake, listened to music and watched the kids dance to Baby Shark several times haha, played corn hole, played with the dogs and chickens, and played with silly string, confetti cannons, and glow sticks. It was a good night. πŸ™‚

Saturday:

Saturday was relatively uneventful. I spent quite some time picking up the aftermath from Luke’s birthday party though haha.

Sunday:

So who’s tired of hearing about Pokemon Go yet? Haha because well, there was an event thingy today where squirtles appeared very frequently from 1-4pm. There’s a pokestop that I can reach in my backyard, so I spent two hours sitting out there with a lure on that stop, catching a buch of squirtles! I ended up with 1 shiny blastoise, a regular blastoise, a a special sunglasses wearing squirtle (squirtle squad, anyone????), and a shiny squirtle. But since Luke had to work today I’m gonna trade him the regular blastoise and the shiny squirtle.

But anyway, I also spent quite a bit of time cleaning the house today (because if I’m not gonna run then I might as well clean πŸ˜‰ ) and ready Game Of Thrones. Haha I guess it’s been a nerdy day, but it was great! πŸ™‚

I think I’ve had a successful almost no running week! Honesty I feel soooo much better today! I’m actually looking forward to running tomorrow, so we’ll see how that goes!

The Adventures of Half Marathon Training: Day 21

Oh man, we did a lot of walking today! 

Well, first I did a little bit of running. πŸ˜‰ Luke drove me to the nature trail and he ended up napping in the car while I ran haha. 

I aiming for 6 miles for my long run today, but halfway through my run the sun had come out and felt like it was beating down on me. Then the pavement warmed up and sent the heat right back up at me. Gross. So after 5.5 miles I was completely drained and absolutely done. Plus things were super slow going for me today, so I had been out for longer than planned and I was just done. Ah well, I got close enough. 

It wasn’t all bad though. I listed to Bang Bang (Green Day’s new single) about 8 million times and I caught my first Dratini on Pokemon go, so I’m very happy about that. πŸ˜„

Immediately after my run, Luke and I went to a park to look for more Pokemon. We didn’t really find anything good, but we walked around for about 30 minutes, and that’s always a good thing. 

After our walk we took Lily and Dean to the dog park. By then it was 86 degrees, so we all got really hot, really fast. But we wore the dogs out and that was our goal! 

We got home around 2:30 pm (we left at 6:40 this morning), so I was ridiculously happy to finally shower! And to sit down! I’m kinda worn out! 

Now I’m watching Olympic diving and I don’t plan on moving for a long time. I do need to stretch at some point though, so I guess I’ll have to move at some point, but that’s not happening any time soon. 


Well, I guess I need to eat something too, but that’s pretty easy to accomplish! πŸ˜„

HMT Day 14 and Other Fun Things

So, I totally get why my training plan called for a long run the day after a hill workout, but that still didn’t make things very fun…

My legs were sore, tired, and they did not want to move today. It was also hot, humid, and gross. But since it was cloudy and there was a nice cool wind it wasn’t too miserable. Plus my awesome husband drove me to the nature trail, so I was under trees and in the shade for the majority of my run. 

Doing my best to stay hydrated and not die.


The plan was to go 5 miles, but I didn’t quite make it. When I was a little over a mile from the car I saw a guy who was obviously playing Pokemon go. My first thought upon seeing this guy was “oh hey, he’s wearing a shirt just like Luke has…wait a second! That is Luke!!”

Turns out, he spent 40 minutes walking on the trail hoping he would run into me on my way back. So we ended up running together for a little bit. And stopping to catch a few Pokemon of course. πŸ˜‰ 

I didn’t exactly make my goal, but I was close damn enough, plus we ended up having a lot of fun and that’s what really matters. 

After running, we drove home so I could change and Luke could grab a phone charger, then we went to a park to do some more Pokemon hunting. We hung out there for a while and then drove to a big home furnishing store were Luke got me an awesome new camera! It’s basically a Polaroid camera and I think it’s the neatest thing ever!! 

After that we went to Russell Stovers because everyone needs a little bit of chocolate in their lives, then to Walmart to get laundry pins and yarn so I can hang my nifty instant photos on the wall. πŸ˜„

How neat is that?!


So by the time we had finished all of those adventures it was around 2:30 and I still hadn’t showered. That’s right, I spent about 5 and a half hours and went into several different public places a smelly, sweaty mess. Oh well. By the time I finally did get showered I felt amazing after being gross for that long. 

It also felt super good to sit for a while which is exactly what I did for a while after I was clean. I downed a bunch of water too, because after my run I wasn’t doing so well with the whole “staying hydrated” thing. 

After some much needed sitting, I did some much needed stretching/foam rolling, and some much needed cleaning. After all of that canning we did yesterday the kitchen was a wreck!

And of course we had to go on our evening Pokemon stroll. That put me over 20,000 steps which is always an exciting feat! 😁

The Adventures of Half Marathon Training: Day 12

Alrighty then! Let’s just get right into it!

So I switched things up a bit over the last two days. Yesterday was supposed to be an easy run day, but I took a much much muchΒ needed rest day instead. That ended up being a wise decision. I don’t think I would have been able to have made a 40 minute “easy” run happen in yesterday’s heat. Plus the humidity and hills. Ugh.Β Instead I took it easy. I did some cleaning, worked in the garden a bit, and Luke and I went for a short walk in the evening. πŸ™‚

Since I took my rest day yesterday, the original plan was to do that easy run today, but we are under another heat advisory. Fun times… I didn’t feel like waking up crazy early, so I ended up spending 40 minutes on the stationary bike instead. I feel like that’s a fair trade off.

Unfortunately I’m not sure how many miles I went. The bottom screen of my stationary bike went out halfway the my workout, so all I know is that I went 40 minutes…But it was probably somewhere around 10.5 miles, since that’s usually how far I go in 4o minutes.

Anyway, before putting in miles on my bike, I took Lily out for a quick walk to loosen up my legs a bit. They’re still kinda tight and the stationary bike doesn’t help in that regard.

And afterwards when my legs were nice and tight, I did a nice 30 minute long “yoga for runners” video and threw in a bit of foam rolling. So my legs are feeling a little better. My quads are still kinda tight though…

But aside from my tight quads, I’m feeling great! No foot, shin, or hip issues for me!! Last year during my first half, my right hip gave me trouble all throughout training and the actual race. So this year in working really hard to make sure it, and the rest of my body, stays happy. I want to make it to the starting line (and finish line) healthy and injury free!

As of today I’m 100 days out and feeling good!

Weekly Recap; July 25th – 31st, 2016

Monday:

My first training workout didn’t go all that great, but it was supposed to be an easy run anyway, so I’m not too worried about it.

Tuesday: 

This workout went a little bit better! Still feeling a bit sluggish though and having 90% humidity that day was KILLING me, so I walked up a few hills. πŸ˜‰

  • Rest Day

Thursday:

Boring…but, kept my heart rate in the aerobic zone and that was my goal, so yay me!! πŸ˜„

I had quite a bit of fun trying while trying to catch pokemon on this run. Good times!

Saturday: 

We spent over 3 hours Pokemon hunting Saturday evening. It was pretty exciting and it helped me go way over my step goal. 

Sunday: 

  • Rest day

Good! Haha my legs are tired from yesterday and it’s supposed to thunderstorm for a while, so we may be stuck inside. Oh well, I guess that just means we’ll have to play real Pokemon today. πŸ˜‰

Half Marathon Training Day 7 and Everyday Adventures

A word to the wise; never EVER drink a whole medium Oreo chocolate milkshake from Sonic the night before a long run. Seriously, I’m speaking from experience here. DON’T DO IT. 

So yeah, things didn’t exactly go well for me. Mostly because of the milkshake (hey, we ordered smalls!! They were the ones who gave us mediums and of course I had to eat the whole thing. πŸ™„πŸ˜‰). 

Pre long run ritual; breakfast (not pictured), coffee, and some quick reading.

Today was my first long run of half marathon training. It was just supposed to be an hour of easy running (I can usually accomplish a little over 4 miles in that amount of time), but I couldn’t go that long. 

My stomach was already unhappy about the amount of sugar I had ingested the night before, and running in the heat definitely didn’t help that situation. Plus I felt really weighed down and gross. 

Combine that with hills, humidity, and asthma, and I just ended up having a really shitty time. I spent 40 minutes on the road and got 3 miles done then I called it quits and walked home. Haha I still ended up spending an hour moving, then we took the dogs to the park and walked around for a while, so at least there’s that. 😬

When we got home Luke picked a bunch of tomatoes and cucumbers and then he went on a canning/pickling spree.

He picked them a little early, but they ripen in the jar. πŸ˜ƒ


Now we have 7 jars of sweet pickles in the fridge and 2 big ass jars of tomatoes. I think we’re doing good so far. 😁

Once the canning was done, Luke was still in a cooking mood so we headed to the store to pick up some ingredients. Luke decided he wanted to make a pieand I made some awesome meatballs. It made for a super tasty dinner. 

After dinner and a movie (finally got to watch Dead Pool! Loved it!!) we went out on a super long Pokemon hunt. We walked around for a little bit, played on a swing while running a lure, then hung out at a gym for half an hour and stole it back from someone who was trying to take it down. Twice. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Aaaand that’s what we’re currently doing, and probably will be doing for a while, so peace out for now. ✌🏻️

Weekly Recap: July 11th-17th, 2016

Monday:

  • 20 easy minutes

This was my first run back after taking a week of for my foot. It went pretty well! At first my foot felt a little sore, but after a few minutes it was fine. πŸ™‚ I probably would have stayed out longer, but I had 3 dogs in the backyard and it was 80 degrees out, so I didn’t want to be out to long. I think 20 minutes was sufficient though.

Tuesday:

  • 30 minute NTC work out

Ugh, I was dragging ass on Tuesday. Got s strength work out in though, so at least I accomplished that.

Wednesday:

  • 3 hilly miles
  • Yoga for Runners: Cool Down

Intentionally sought out hills on Wednesday. Not my brightest idea though. My legs and butt were CRAZY sore from Tuesday’s workout.

When I started this run I felt like I could barely move my legs, by mile two I felt great, and mile 3 was pretty good too, but I was getting hot and tired at that point. I ended up negative splitting which was really cool!

But about an hour after I finished I felt like I could barley walk and pretty much had to hobble around for the rest of the day. Like I said, not my brightest idea. I’m still super stoked that I managed to hit negative splits though. πŸ˜„

Thursday: 

  • 30 minutes (7.6 miles) on the stationary bike

Stationary bike, lots of walking, and lots of food on Thursday. 😁

Friday: 

  • Rest day

Saturday:

  • Rest day

Wanted to do a long run on Saturday, but my mom and dad were here and it just didn’t happen. I still got a lot of walking done though. πŸ˜„


Sunday: 

  • 4 miles

My heat sensitive ass though I could get an 8 mile run done, starting at 8 in the morning when it was already sunny and 75 degrees. Obviously that didn’t work out for me. I wanted to run again in the evening, but that was a no go as well. It’s just too hot…oh well, at least I got 4 miles in this morning.



Total weekly mileage: 8.49

I’m actually not to upset about that. I start half marathon training soon, so I’m thinking a few easy weeks are probably a good idea. πŸ˜„

But just because I didn’t do much running , doesn’t mean I didn’t do much moving. Thanks to Pokemon Go, Luke and I have done A LOT of wandering around the neighborhood. I think it’s pretty safe to say that I’m going to win Garmin Connect’s 65k step challenge this week. As I type this, it’s only 4pm and we may go out Pokemon hunting again. 😁
