August 27th, 2019

Today was a good day!!!

First and foremost, I started off my day by listening to my Halloween playlist! Well, my Halloween playlist in progress, anyway. After my debacle with iTunes a few months ago all of my old playlists are gone along with a bunch of my music, so I’ve been using Spotify quite a bit. And my Halloween playlist on there isn’t quite as good as my old one on iTunes, but it’s getting there. ๐Ÿ˜

Anyway, I don’t care if it’s only August 27th it’s never too early to start getting spooky. ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ–ค

Then while on my run I found $14 in a ditch! I find paper money when I run every once in a while and I always stop to pick it up, but $14 is the most I’ve found at one time!

Oh and my run did go pretty well today too. So that’s good.

After my run I submitted a resume and a copy of my ID to a job recruiter that my brother-in-law hooked me up with. He’s been helping me to *hopefully* get a job at the Clorox plant that he works with here in town.

But a few days ago I had also applied to a job at Garmin’s world headquarters that I just happened to see on a job board. I honestly didn’t think anything would actually come of it but then as I was submitting my resume to the other guy Garmin’s HR called me! And after answering a few questions I was able to set up an interview for September 3rd!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Holy cow you guys! I legitimately didn’t think that was going to go anywhere but now I have an interview with them!! I guess that just goes to show that it never hurts to just go for song and see what happens!

And all of that happened before 11 am! ๐Ÿ˜‚ After that my day was pretty uneventful, but after the great morning I had I’ll take it!!

I hope everyone else has had a fantastic Tuesday as well!

Until next time,

Friday Fives: Songs I Currently Love

I’ve been working on a new running playlist for a few days now. I tend to do that whenever the weather starts to warm up. I don’t know what it is about spring that makes me want to listen to new music/playlists, but it really does haha! So for today’s Friday Fives, I thought I’d share some of the songs I’m really into right now.

1. Louie Louie by Iggy Pop

I don’t know what it is about Iggy Pop/The Stooges but sometimes I really love them, sometimes I really hate them. At the moment I’m really feeling them though. This song, I Wanna Be Your Dog, Real Wild Child, and of course the two songs he did with Green Day (Private Hell and Supermarket), have been getting me super jazzed up lately. ๐Ÿ™‚

2. Want You Bad by The Offspring

90’s/early 2000’s punk just makes me so happy. It’s also a great genre for running, in case you were wondering. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The Offspring quickly became one of my favorites, and Want You Bad is probably one of my all time favorite songs.

3. Scotty Doesn’t Know by Lustra

This is literally the only song by Lustra that I’ve ever heard, but I absolutely love it! It’s just hilariously terrible. But not in a “it’s a bad song” terrible, but a “you probably shouldn’t be having sex with your friend’s girlfriend” terrible. Oh man, it’s great.

4. Video Killed The Radio Star by The Presidents Of The United States Of America

I’m very confused as to why this video has The Offspring’s logo as the background, but whatever. I’m not a fan of the original version of this song, but I really like this cover of it. ๐Ÿ™‚

5. Dammit by Blink-182

As a general rule, I don’t go around announcing that I listen to Blink-182, because…I don’t know man, it’s freaking Blink-182. But I do thing think this song is a lot of fun to run to. Along with a few of their other songs.

Hey! I made it through a whole list of music without including a Green Day song (although I did mention them once). That’s pretty impressive for me haha! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little preview of my spring playlist. At some point I plan on sharing the whole thing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Halloween Playlist

You’re probably going to be see me saying that all fall/winter. October-January is my favorite time of the year!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Since it’s my most favorite time of year, I have some pretty awesome playlists put together. Well, I think they’re awesome anyway. This one has been a few years in the making and I still don’t feel like it’s quite done yet. Halloween specific songs (or at least songs that are sorta Halloween-y) that I actually like seem kinda hard to find. I am, however, quite happy with what I have so far! This playlist is super fun, whether you’re running or decorating for Halloween, it’ll definitely get you in a spooky mood.

Friday Fives: Top 5 Music Albums To Run Toย

Are you the type of person who would make your own playlist or just listen to a whole album? I used to prefer making my own ย playlists, especially really long ones that I could shuffle. That way I’d always be surprised but I’d never end up with a song that wasn’t exciting enough.

Recently though I’ve been really into whole albums. Just listening to one song is kinda like reading one part of a whole story. Sure you probably get the gist, but you miss out on a whole lot. Plus listening to a whole album during a long run can be a pretty magical experience. ๐Ÿ™‚

1. American Idiot

My all time favorite album by my all time favorite band. If you are one of the few unfortunate souls who’ve never heard this album all the way through, I HIGHLY suggest you listen to it right now! Seriously, you’re missing out if you haven’t.ย Better yet, listen to it on your next run! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

2. Insomniacย

This is my “go to” album. If I want music on a run, but can’t decide what I want to listen to, 90% of the time I choose this album, and it’s always a good choice. I’m a little bit biased though. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Green Day is my favorite. ๐Ÿ™‚

This album isn’t great for long runs though, I’m pretty sure it’s something like 36 minutes long. So I like it for shorter runs and for speed work.

3. London Calling

It is my personal belief that London Calling is one of the best albums ever written!

The whole thing is super exciting, fun, and interesting! I’ve definitely never been bored while listening to this album. Plus it’s pretty long, so it works well for my long runs.

4. Death of a Bachelor

So, I’m a little late, but I’m jumping on the Panic! At The Disco bandwagon.

I mean, since high school I’ve always likedย Panic! At The Disco, but I never got super into them. Not until Death of A Bachelor that is. I’m not gonna lie, I’m not entirely sure what it is about this album that I like so much. It’s definitely not the kinda thing I’d usually be into, but man do I love it!

5. Let’s Go

I kinda struggled with picking a 5th album for this list. I really wanted to go with Dos or Dookie or Awesome as Fuck, but I figured 3 out of 5 of the albums on this list shouldn’t be Green Day. That just wouldn’t be fair.

It finally came to me though, freaking Rancid!! Let’s Go has been one of my favorites since I was 16. After I heard Side Kick I was pretty much hooked, and when I found a copy at a music/movie/video game store I bough it and annoyed the shit out of Luke with if for like, a week! Haha he doesn’t like Rancid. Or The Clash, or the Ramones for that matter…How boring is that?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is definitely one of those albums that you need to turn up loud and totally rock out to. But don’t rock out too hard if you’re running. I made that mistake on a treadmill once and I’ll never make it again.

Long Run Ramblings

I’m in a rambling type of mood, and therefore, have a lot to say about today’s 5 miler. So buckle your seatbelts boy and girls, because this is probably going to be a wild ride! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alrighty then! Now that you’ve been warned, let’s start off with music since that’s usually the first thing I plan for longer runs.

Now I know a lot of people don’t particularly like listening to music while on the run, and I actually really get that! Sometimes all you need is the sound of your breathing and your feet hitting the pavement. But I listen to music on most of my runs.

Usually I like to make super long playlists and just put them on shuffle (check out my spring playlist here!) That way they’re a little bit different every time and I don’t get tired of them as fast. But I wasn’t feeling my playlist today and my fall back plan is always to turn on a Green Day album.

I don’t think I’ve really mentioned my love for Green Day here before. I’m a little bit of a fan girl…

Yup. Just a little bit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So without getting too far into my Fan girl-ness, Insomniac and Dos were the sound track to my run. Insomniac is one of my favorite albums ever and Dos is just a lot of fun, so that made for a good time. Plus I finished my run right in the middle of the last song on Dos, so that was kinda neat that those two albums alone were just long enough for me to get 5 miles in. ๐Ÿ˜

Although I had a kickass playlist, this 5 miler didn’t go as well as last week’s. But it was rainy this morning so that was to be expected. I actually kinda like running in the rain, but after a while those wet clothes start to wear you down!

It wasn’t all that bad though. I had a lot of fun for the most part! I think proper fueling is really helping with that. I mean, I usually eat a good breakfast before I run. But I’ve been experimenting with fueling on the run. Obviously I don’t actually need to eat anything during a 5 mile run, but a granola bar halfway in has been helping me finish the last half of my run a little bit stronger. At least I think it is. More experimenting needs to be done.

One of these days I’m going to learn how to eat while running. Today is not that day, though. I had to walk while I downed this bad boy.

This is actually something I really need to work on, and I think trying out new this while my long runs aren’t all that “long” is a really good idea. I did a horrible job with properly fueling for my first half marathon and I think it ended up hurting my performance. So I want to be a little more prepared and knowledgeable in this aspect so that next time is a little better.

I’m also working on post-run snacks. For the most part my stomach is pretty good about pretty much anything before a run, and it’s handled sport beans and fiber one bars really well while on the run, but afterwards it gets a little picky. Especially if the run was particularly difficult. Then I usually don’t feel like eating at all, but if I don’t I end up feeling really shitty for the rest of the day. I’ve recently discovered honey stinger waffles  and they’ve been working really well for me! Haha I really need to get me a box of them. And probably a box of sport beans too!

Went to Dick’s after my run and I couldn’t decide on one, so I got both! I kinda wish I would have had the sport beans during my run, but they’re good for after as well. ๐Ÿ˜„

So yeah, back to the actual running part of my run. Like I said before, last week’s 5 miler was better, but I anticipated that and I’m still definitely improving!

5 miles is no where near as daunting as it used to be. Actually, even 10 doesn’t even seem so scary anymore. Obviously I’d have to work back up to that point, but I know I can do it. After training for, and then completing a half marathon in last November I’ve become much more mentally tough. I’ve found that even though most runs have really tough parts, if you stick with it and keep going it will eventually get better.

My overall time and mile splits are nothing to write home about, and between the wind and wet/heavy clothes, negative splits just weren’t going to happen. But I’m still happy with how today went. I mean, we can’t PR every day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So…I guess that’s it! If you actually stuck with me through this whole post I sincerely thank you! I feel like this post is a little scattered/random, but sometimes you just need to get it all out there, ya know?

I hope you’ve had a good Saturday and have a great rest of the weekend!!

Spring 2016 Playlist

A new season means a new running playlist!!

Now this may sound kinda crazy, but hear me out; most of my running playlists revolve around the weather.

Some of the songs on certain playlists are kind of obvious. For example, “Summertime” by Kenny Chesney is always on my Summer playlist, or “Living Dead Girl” by Rob Zombie can usually be found on my Fall playlist. Especially around Halloween.

Then there are some songs that are not so obvious that just make me thing about particular seasons for whatever reason, and for Spring it’s usually “pop punk” for me. Like, whenever it starts warming up, the sun starts coming out, and the weather gets super nice, and everyone starts getting super excited. You know what I’m talking about, right? “Pop punk” just kinda fits that feeling in my mind.

(Just a side not that’s not exactly relevant but I have to put out there anyway. I HATE the whole idea of “pop punk”. It just feels like an oxymoron to me. And I’m not gonna lie, admitting that I like some of these songs is kind of embarrassing and makes me feel like I’m 14 all over again, but I whatever…)

So, yeah, I’m done trying to explain this because I don’t really get it either haha. So without further ado, here’s my Springtime playlist.Which isn’t all “pop punk”, but there is quite a bit of that on there.
