Totally Rad Wednesday

Is anyone else a little bit obsessed with all of the gifs for the stories on Instagram? Because I kinda am. πŸ˜‚

It has in fact, been a totally rad day though! I got so much done!! Haha I still have a piss ton of other stuff I need to do though. My brother-in-law, his girlfriend, and her kids are coming over at some point this weekend (and fingers crossed my brother-in-law will finally take all of the shit that he left in our spare bedroom when he moved out 9 months ago. Oh did I mention he never told us he was moving out? He didn’t even pack up his shit or anything. Just left a huge mess for Luke and I to clean up. Which we did. We even boxed up his stuff for him.), and my house is kinda of a disaster haha. I’ve got a pretty decent start on things though! But before I got to any of that, of course I had to get my run in. πŸ˜‰

Spring has finally made it’s way back to Kansas, so oh boy is it windy! That made running a little more difficult than it normally would have been, but holy cow did I have fun! I basically did a quality workout with a couple of strides thrown in at the end and it was a lot of fun! It was pretty hard too, but in a good way and not in the I’m still sick and feel like I’m dying way, which was nice. And I am still kinda sick, but today has been a vast improvement and I could definitely tell during my run. πŸ™‚

My peach tree is blooming and looks super pretty right now, so obviously I had to take my very Instagram-y post-run Garmin photo with it in the back ground. πŸ˜‰

It was a really good run! Afterwards I was full of energy and ready to tackle my big project of the day; cleaning out the spare bedroom. That’s where the rabbits, ferrets (although they had to be temporarily moved) live, and where we had been keeping the chickens in their brood box. The thing is, they had not been staying in the brood box. They’ve basically had full run of that room for about two weeks now. Luke and I wanted to move them out of the house and into their coop when that started happening but it was still really cold out and they were still to young to be out in the cold like that without a heat lamp or something, but if we had done that they wouldn’t of had much room in their nesting area and it probably would have ended up getting too hot for them anyway. But anyway, it’s finally starting to warm up again but more importantly they have all of their feathers now, so last night the chickens graduated to their coop.

At night they have to be locked in the nesting area (so they’ll be quite and for their own safety), so that’s where they spent the night and then this morning when we woke up Luke opened the door to the outside portion of their coop but they didn’t make their way down there until a little after 2 pm haha. But once they got down there they pecked and scratched and the dirt to their little chicken heart’s content, and once they got tired of that (and probably a little bit cold in the wind) they made their way back into the nesting area. So this transition has gone just about as well as it could have and they seem pretty happy to be outside! But that still left the spare bedroom to be cleaned…

Oh man, was is a mess in there! There was wood shavings, chicken feed, feathers, and poop everywhere. And I’m pretty sure the poor rabbits were getting annoyed with the chickens just roaming around that room. The last couple of days they had taken to roosting on top of poor Runes cage. I’m sure she wasn’t a fan of that.

Anyway, I swept, mopped, scrubbed, vacuumed, and mopped the floor again in there. I also cleaned both rabbit cages while I was at it, because why not. Haha plus Rune likes to chase the broom while I’m sweeping and weirdly enough likes the vacuum. Daisy is not a fan of either of those things though, so she stayed safely in her cage while Rune got to run around and help me clean for 2 hours hahaha.

Yeah, that first photo isn’t even a “before” photo. It was a “I’m almost done” photo. It was bad… Rune was having fun though haha. There is still some chicken poop stuck to the floor. Kinda gross, I know, but I’m gonna need a putty knife or something to scrape it off with, so Luke’s gonna get me one on his way home from work. Still though, its a vast improvement! πŸ™‚ I’m very glad that the chickens are finally outside in their coop. Won’t have to worry about having a huge mess like that anymore. Also, just ignore those blinds. My brother-in-law’s dog tore them up, along with the screen in the other window, because my brother-in-law just left him behind and didn’t even come get him until 4 months after he’d moved out and Luke told him he had to take him. Apparently after he abandoned his dog a bunch of people were telling him that was a shitty thing to do, but it still took him 4 freaking months to come get him…I’m just he’s finally gone. My dogs did not like my brother-in-law’s dog at all.

And just for the record, I don’t just leave the rabbits in dog crates without any sort of bedding. I keep several old sheets in their cages and the both like to dig and tunnel in them. They were just in the washer when I took this photo haha.

Another project Luke and I want to start is fixing up our rabbit hutch (it’s in bad shape so I can’t use it) and maybe even building another one. Our rabbits don’t get along so they can’t be housed together… I like being able to leave them outside in the hutch when the weather is nice, but can’t really do that at the moment. So for now the rabbits are stuck inside. Hahaha luckily they aren’t as messy as the chickens though!

Whew! After doing all of that I was pretty beat! Cleaning up the chicken mess was a lot of work and I had done a relatively hard workout before hand! So once I was done cleaning I showered, ate lunch, and took and hour long nap. That was nice. πŸ™‚

After that I worked on a few blog posts, did a little bit of yoga, and then got some more cleaning done. Not a lot, but hey, it was something. πŸ˜‰

I’m just feeling pretty great all-in-all. We’re (hopefully) finally getting my brother-in-law’s shit out of our house and finally moving on from the whole all around terrible experience of him living with us for 2 years, I got a lot done today, my peach tree is blooming,Β  I’m finally starting to get over this cold/upper respiratory thing both Luke and I have had for a week now, he says he’s starting to feel better too πŸ™‚ , and I had a great run.

See? It’s been a totally rad Wednesday. πŸ˜‰ And I hope your’s has been too!

New favorite band! πŸ˜‰

Hey Everyone! I Need Your Help!!

Remember how Luke just showed up with a new ferret last week?Β Well Luke had been calling “him” a “he” ever since he brought “him” home, so I figured he’d been told that our new furry friend was a boy. That wasn’t the case though. For whatever reason he just assumed it was a boy and didn’t even bother to check…Well I did, and it turns our our new pet is actually a she hahaha!

So the problem is now we have no idea what to call her! Originally we were going to name her Alfred to stick with the Batman thing we had going on with our first ferret (his name is Bruce πŸ˜‰ ). But Luke and I don’t exactly want to call her that now that we know she’s a girl. Also, we both really suck at coming up with names hahaha. I mean, we have some very interesting names for our animals; the dogs are Lily (she came named though), Dean, and Finn. The cats are Bubbles (she also came named, and no, it’s not after the Power Puff Girl) and Winchester. The rabbits are Daisy and Rune. And the Leopard gecko is Sandile (it’s a pokemon haha). So yeah, coming up with names is hard and we don’t think we’re very good at it haha.

We thought about going withΒ Selina Β (because Catwoman) but eh, I’m not a fan of that name haha. So do any of you have any idea’s as to what we could call this little cutie?? She’s a bit of a spaz, but she’s so much fun and full of personality! So seriously? Got any suggestions? It’s been a week and she still doesn’t have a name, but she really needs one!

And before anyone asks because I’m sure someone will, yes, Bruce is neutered and she’s spayed, so there’s nothing to worry about on that front. They do love each other very much already though. πŸ˜‰

Fall Is Almost Here, Two Short Runs, An Injury Update, Compression Gear, and Another Furry Friend

First and foremost, #ThrowbackThursday anyone? πŸ˜‰ Ah man, throwback Thursday never ceases to amuse me. I just think it’s fun to take a look back at past life experiences, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant they might be.

So, since fall is almost here and I’m so super duper excited about that, I went perusing through the camera roll on my phone this morning looking for the photos of my jack-o-lanterns from last year, because they were pretty darn spiffy if you ask me!!

I was so super excited about how the 13.1 pumpkin turned out! I was kinda worried about it because I thought it was going to be hard to tell what it was, but once it was lit up it looked pretty good! And look at all the hair I used to have!! Haha not gonna lie, looking back I kinda regret cutting it all off. But it was sooo much nicer not having to deal with all of that hot hair over the summer. But anyways, now I’ve got to figure out what I want to do with this years pumpkins! Haha obviously I’ve still got some time, but I take this stuff very seriously! πŸ˜‰ We’re starting to get close to my favorite time of year and I’m so super stoked!!

So now that we’re into the middle of September we’re starting to experience a bit of fall like weather in the morning/evening. The highs in the afternoon have been in the 80’s though so that still kinda sucks, but we’ll get to the colder weather eventually. πŸ™‚ But anyways, the nice weather in the morning is really reallyΒ reallyΒ making me miss running. Fall running is the best running (except once winter rolls around, then I’ll spend all season telling you that winter running is the best πŸ˜‰ ) and right now I definitely feel like I’m missing out!!

I have managed to do two very short runs this week. 2 miles on Monday and 2 more miles on Wednesday. That’s definitely not the kind of running I should be doing considering that I’m supposed to be training for my 3rd half marathon, but at the moment it’s the only kind of running I can do. And it’s still totally better than not running at all!!

Unfortunately the 4 miles that I’ve run this week were not pain free miles. During both runs my knee started to ache a bit during the second mile and on Wednesday I felt it a little bit in my shin as well. That was no bueno…but it’s still not as bad as it was last month and I like to think it’s finally starting to get better. Healing this whole situation has definitely been a slow process, but I’m glad that it seems to be getting better without the help of a doctor. Because IΒ reallyΒ didn’t want to have to go see one haha.

So I think I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been taking R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation) very seriously in order to get this thing taken care of. Obviously the rest has come in the form of not running, but I’ve also been trying to take it easy and walk a little less if it starts bothering me. I was icing it for a while but that doesn’t seem to be doing anything for it anymore. And honestly I’m pretty sure icing is really only effective for the first like, 48 hours or something like that after you’ve been injured (I’m not entirely sure about that though, so don’t quote me on it. πŸ˜‰ ). So that brings me to compression and elevation. As far as elevation goes, I’ve just been propping my leg up with a pillow in the evening whenever i’m sitting down watching TV, but my compression game has definitely been VERY strong!

I’m sporting a very old compression sock and a very new compression knee sleeve in this photo.

So Luke’s just as determined to get me healthy again as quickly as possible so he’s been making me experiment with some new gear haha. First he got me the knee sleeve pictured above. Oh boy does that thing work! I didn’t realize that my knee was actually hurting while I was walking until I started wearing this thing around haha (this right here is why I have to be super careful when it comes to injures. I have a ridiculous pain tolerance and sometimes I don’t notice that anythings going on until after it goes away and I start feeling normal again…). And after wearing it for about a week I was able to do my two short runs this week, which was obviously a huge improvement over not being able to run at all. πŸ™‚ So because I had quite a bit of success with the knee brace, Luke thought hey, if a little bit of compression worked, why not go with EVEN MORE compression. So he came home with a pair of full on compression tights for me the other day haha. I kinda wish he hadn’t spent so much money on me for this stuff, compression gear (especially these tights, holy shit) isn’t cheap…but I mean, they are some super spiffy looking tights. πŸ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

I’ve only worn them once, so at this point there’s really no telling if they made a difference, but they’re still super spiffy. πŸ™‚

So all of that actually came about because I had ordered myself a new pair of Zensah compression calf sleeves (like I said, my compression socks are really old, and I’ve had to cut the toes off of both pairs that I have because they make my toes uncomfortable, so I figured sleeves were the way to go. πŸ˜‰ ) and a sports bra at some point last week, I think? The only problem with that is that Zensah’s warehouse is located in southern Florida so they had to close up shop and evacuate because of hurricane Irma, so I guess they’re not entirely sure when they’ll be able to ship out anything. And like, obviously that’s totally understandable and I don’t mind waiting, but Luke is not a patient person and apparently that applies to me as well, and that’s how I ended up with even more compression gear hahahahaha.

So like, I know compression gear is one of those things that some people absolutely swear by and other people just think is a placebo kinda thing, but it’s always seemed to work for me so I’m just gonna roll with it! πŸ™‚

Whew, alrighty then! Last on my agenda of this to talk about today is our newest furry friend! Everyone, meet Alfred!

So kind of on a whim I guess, Luke decided that our other ferret, Bruce, needed a friend. So he went and got him one last night. Hahaha if you haven’t noticed, once Luke sets his mind on something he just goes and does it. And that’s how we ended up with another ferret. It’s really funny because everyone thinks all of the animals were my idea (because I’m the huge animal lover who was raised on a farm), but aside from the cats and Lily, Luke’s the one who went out and got the rest of them haha. I mean, I’m not complaining though. πŸ˜‰

At first we were both a little wary about introducing them to each other. Luckily we have two ferret cages so if it didn’t go well we could have kept them separate, but it looks like that’s not going to be a problem. They pretty much liked each other right off the bat and are already becoming fast friends. So I guess Luke was right, getting Bruce a friend was a good idea. And I mean, what good is Bruce Wayne without Alfred Pennyworth? πŸ˜‰

Okey dokey then! That’s all I’ve got to talk about for today! I’ve been doing a terrible job at keeping up with everyone lately, so what’s going on with you? Are you excited about fall? Any up coming races, spiffy new gear, new furry friends, new PR’s, or are you sidelined with an injury as well?

Anyways, I hope everyone has a happy Friday eve, a great Friday tomorrow, and an even better weekend!

A Day In The Life Of Lily and Dean

5:45 am:

Lily and Dean

Luke wakes up to get ready for work! That means we both get to be in bed and look out the window!!

6:45 am:

Lily and Dean

Wake up Ashley by barking at the school bus that goes by our house every morning. Stay in bed until 7 am because Ashley doesn’t like getting up before then.

7 am:

Lily and Dean

Yay! Ashley finally got up and let us outside!! Gotta take care of our morning routine by peeing everywhere in the backyard, barking at squirrels, and saying hi to Zaide, the Beagle who lives next door.

7:05 am:

Bark/scratch obnoxiously at the door because I’M THIRSTY AND I WANT TO BE INSIDE AND BE WITH YOU!!!

I guess I want to be inside too! Just kidding, now that I’ve gotten a drink I need to go back outside and bark at Cujo, the German Shepherd that lives in the yard behind ours.

7:30 am:

Keep bringing Ashley the ball to throw, because her breakfast is no fun unless we’re playing fetch. Also stare longingly at her plate while she eats, just so she knows that sharing is caring, and that I definitely need a piece of her toast. After I get my fair share of her breakfast I need to stare out the window and make sure nothing shady goes on in the front yard while Ashley goes about her morning chores.

Sit in the middle of the yard. Make sure the evil squirrel don’t attack and that the menacing rabbits don’t sneak into the yard. ALSO THAT CAT I DON’T KNOW IS BACK IN THE EASEMENT! FUCK YOU, CAT!!!

9 am:

Bark at the evil mail lady from the window. Ha! That’ll teach her to keep getting into our mailbox!

Bark at the mail lady from the backyard. I don’t know why we’re barking at her, but Lily is doing it so I probably should too.

9:30 am:

Lily and Dean

Playtime with Ashley in the backyard!

9:45 am:

Pout on the couch because I want to go for a walk, but Ashley refuses to take me. Something about being busy, but I don’t know what could possibly be more important than me…Oh, now we’re bringing the bunnies outside and there’s no way she could possibly do that without me!

No small critters are getting into this yard on my watch!! Except for our bunnies that Ashley just brought outside. IT’S MY JOB TO MAKE SURE NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO THEM!!

10 am:

Finally got to go for a walk! Stalked some squirrels (Ashley says that the border collie stare isn’t going to work on the neighborhood squirrels, but I figure I’d better try, just to be safe), barked at the evil mail lady again, and sniffed around two parks. Once we got back home I resumed my post at the window. Nothing is getting in the front yard or into the house without me knowing about it!

12 pm:

Napped on the couch while Ashley ate lunch (I got to lick the bowl!!), watched the movie that Luke surprised her with the other day, and typed away on her laptop. I guess she was working on the whole “blog” thing. Whatever, I’m just happy I got to lick her bowl and spend time with her. πŸ™‚

Napped outside because why be inside when you can be outside?!

1:30 pm:

Ashley just came outside with my leash! THAT MEANS WE’RE GOING ON A WALK! We walked down to the park, but when we got there we saw a bunch of loud cars with flashing lights (police cars, fire trucks, and animal control), and a bunch of people standing around talking in front of a house near the park. All of the excitement was making me really nervous so we turned down a different street and then walked back home.

3  pm:

Lily and Dean

Waiting “patiently” for Luke to get home, even though we both know that he wont be home for another two hours. Also barking at every single dog that walks past, just so they know we’re here, and the school bus that goes by again at 3:40.

5 pm:

Lily and Dean

Luke’s home!! Quick, we must greet him at the door and smother him with love!!

6 pm:

Lily and Dean

Relaxed on the couch with our favorite humans, and got fed pasta off a fork.

9 pm:

Lily and Dean

LISTEN UP EVERYBODY, THIS IS NOT A DRILL! IT’S FOOD TIME! EVERYONE SCATTER!! The cats are running everywhere, and we may or may not be getting under Luke and Ashley’s feet as they try to fill up our food bowls, but we can’t help it! Food time is an exciting time!!

After we eat we get to have our pre-bedtime nap while Luke and Ashley watch TV. Then, at promptly 10:00 pm, without being asked, we go to our designated sleeping areas on the floor in the bedroom, even though we all know Dean will end up in the bed between the humans at some point because they’re both huge pushovers when it comes to the two of us. πŸ™‚

We hope you enjoyed reading about our day! Maybe we’ll take over Ashley’s blog again sometime. πŸ˜‰

Goodnight everyone!

February 10th, 2017

First and foremost, two words I’m never ever actually going to learn how to spell; “Wednesday” and “February”. I don’t know why those two words are so difficult for me but I horribly mess them up every time I try to type/write them haha. Oh well, thank goodness for spell check!

Anyway, I’m still super jealous of the parts of the country that got a piss ton of snow yesterday, but I can’t deny that it was an absolutely gorgeous day today. This morning was sunny and warm (close to 50 degrees), but super windy. For once I was kinda happy for all the wind though, it kept me from getting too hot during my run. I did have a sweat drop fall into my eye, that was a fun little surprise in the middle of my workout. It wasn’t that bad though, I was actually able to get in a few miles today though! Yay!!

Processed with Rookie Cam

Poor Dean didn’t get to run with me today.

My leg is definitely feeling a lot better today! It’s still feeling kinda tight, and I had to walk up the hills because trying to run up them was kinda hurting my quad, but other than that it felt fine! πŸ™‚ Good thing too, because I don’t think I could have handled another super short run this week. I’ve been dying to do a longer workout all week! That probably won’t happen this week though, but right now I’m just happy I was able to do 3 without any issues. Well there was one issue, I didn’t pee beforehand. Big mistake. I thought I would be fine, but it was not fine. Running with a full bladder is absolutely no fun haha. πŸ˜‰

After my run/shower/lunch it was almost 60 degrees outside! Obviously I couldn’t stay inside while it was so nice out! Unfortunately, ALL of my pants were in the washing machine. Yeah, all of them. Except my batman pajama pants that is, and I couldn’t just walk around the neighborhood in those. Well, I guess I could have but I would have felt weird doing it, so I had to wait an hour for my laundry to get done. That was a little bit painful, I’m not a very patient person…

But once I finally had pants to wear I took both dogs on nice long walks, so now everyone is happy. πŸ™‚ I would walk both of them together, but when it’s the two of them and one of me they gang up on me and drag me wherever they want to go! I ain’t about that life, so I just walk them one at a time. At the very least it gets me walking more. That’s never a bad thing.

Two very happy border collies. 😊

After the dogs had been walked I realized I should have put the rabbits outside this morning. They’ve been cooped up inside all winter and I don’t think they’ve exactly liked that. I mean, we let them run around in the house, but that can’t be as exciting as being outside and being able to graze all day is. So I found them some grass that wasn’t completely dead, put their hutch on top of it, and brought them outside. They seem to be enjoying it. 😊

When Luke got home from work we ran down to the store and got some chicken breasts for him to grill. He also grilled up some sweet potato slices (although I made those πŸ˜‰) and broccoli, so that was a nice dinner. I guess Luke felt the same way I did and wanted to spend some time outside as well. Oh and we also saw the first bee of the season! He actually landed right on Luke’s arm. Haha that was pretty neat.

So yeah, my Friday’s been pretty awesome and I hope yours has been too!
