August Miles and Goal Check In

Goodbye August and last full month of summer! Hello September! I’m very happy to see you! I sure hope you bring some cooler weather with you!! πŸ˜‰

August was pretty hot, but it was nowhere near as bad as the heatwave we had throughout most of July was, so I’m incredibly thankful for that! In fact, I was able to run almost double the mileage I hit in July. Haha it also probably helps that my half marathon training is also really starting to ramp up, but really I think the main reason I was able to do so many more miles in August is just because it wasn’t so darn hot.

I’m incredibly happy with that number! I feel like I’ve gotten a lot of work done and hopefully have made some improvements in August. Sure, a lot of the running I did was slow. A lot slower than I’d like really. But I know that’s mostly due to the hot weather, and I should start feeling better and be able to pick up the pace a little once it starts cooling off a little. But aside from that I’ve been feeling pretty good! πŸ˜„

So, not gonna lie, I haven’t picked up my training journal once in the month of August. Oops… One of the goals I had set for myself in January was to keep up with my training journal and write down one good thing about every single day. I had kinda been doing that off and on so far this year, but at this point I just completely fell off of the bandwagon. But I guess this is a good reminder to get right back on it! 😁

I’ve been doing a pretty decent job about hitting my step goal most days. Gaga but not gonna lie, all of the running I’m doing makes it pretty easy most days. πŸ˜‰

All-in-all I’d say August was a pretty good month, even though I really do need to work on the whole training journal thing. But anyway, I’m very excited about September, the fact that fall is almost here, and to see what I can accomplish now that my training is really starting to ramp up!

Wishing you a super September and many happy, healthy miles!

July Miles And Goal Check In

Well hello there, August! I’m very glad that you’re the last full month of summer, and I sure hope the hot weather leaves when you do! πŸ˜‰ Actually the weather hasn’t been too bad here lately! That’s supposed to change next week though. Apparently the really hot weather is coming back. Boo…

Anyway, didn’t do too bad mileage wise, considering that this month I had two weeks where I did little to no running. One week because of the heat wave and another because of our family vacation. Other than that though, I had a pretty good month! Ended up with 42.48 miles for the month and kicked off my training for Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days.

Haha and now that that’s in full swing I definitely don’t see my weekly or monthly mileage going down much. Well, as long as I can stay healthy and injury free. *Knock on wood.* I’m not typically good at that. πŸ˜‚

Anyway, I did pretty good with my other goals as well. Still did pretty decent with my step goal even with the heat wave and being on vacation. Haha but being right on that river really helped with the whole walking thing while we were on vacation. πŸ˜‰ I also managed to keep up pretty well with my training journal, which was an improvement over last month. πŸ˜„

Welp, I guess that about covers it! Kinda short, sweet, and to the point this month. πŸ˜‚ I hope you have a great August!!

June Miles and Goal Check In

I totally almost forgot today was the last day of June! And it’s not like June has felt like it flew by or anything, I legit just forgot haha. But anyway, we’re half way through the year and I’m still going pretty strong with all of my goals! Haha well, at the very least I’m still thinking about and working on them, so that’s pretty impressive! I don’t think I’ve ever actually continued with goals I set for myself at the begging of the year for this long, so that’s just an impressive feat in and of itself! Now, only 6 more months to go! πŸ˜‰

So this last week of June has been crazy hot. I don’t think we’ve had one day this week were the heat index didn’t go over 100 degrees. It’s been kinda rough. My poor garden is really suffering. The plants just aren’t getting any break from the intense heat and sun. That’s another problem, it’s been hot, humid, and sunny with little to no cloud cover. Hopefully we’ll get a break from the intense heat soon! I’m not sure how much more my plants can take. And if the rest of this summer is gonna be like this, then well, gross…

But despite the awful weather we’ve been having, my running hasn’t actually suffered much! Haha probably thanks to my spiffy new treadmill!!! When it’s just too hot out I’ve been able to hope on the treadmill and do my runs instead of either having to cut them short or just not do them at all. I even managed to run 6.23 more miles than I did last month when the weather was a little better. Go me!!

img_2883

I’ve also been hardcore kicking ass at getting my step goal done this month! I only had 8 day’s this month were I didn’t hit it and only 2 of those days were consecutive. Haha you can see that it’s usually Sunday that I don’t make my goal, but that’s because that’s usually my rest day and I don’t typically go for it. I mean, I need at least one day of complete rest a week. πŸ˜‰

img_2884Β Last month I wasn’t doing a very good job of keeping up with my training journal and that kinda carried over for the first half of this month. Oops. But for the last 2 weeks I’ve been pretty darn meticulous about it. I’ve also been trying to be much more detailed with it. Since I start training for my two halves in two days in November next month I want to be in the habit of keeping a much more detailed training log. I feel like that will come in very handy for this upcoming training cycle, so it’s just something I want to stay on top of.

img_2886

Even though it’s been intensely hot and I haven’t been enjoying it at all, I’ve still had a pretty good month! In a couple of weeks Luke and I are going to be going on vacation with a bunch of his family, so I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to keep up with this trend of running more monthly miles. I’d like to and I’m going to try, but I’m not sure how this vacation is going to go (hopefully it’s nothing like our Florida vacation from last year), so I guess we shall see?

How was your month? Have you been keeping up with your goals? I sure hope so!!

But anyways, that’s all for today! I hope you’ve had a good Saturday!

May Miles and Goal Check In

May brought heat, humidity, and two rounds of dental work. Haha fun times… But I still worked through it and I feel like I got a pretty decent amount of running done! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸŒ€πŸ˜Š

As for my other goals well, I’ve kinda fallen off of the training journal bandwagon… Haha I started out really strong at the beginning of the month but then just kinda tapered off. I guess I need to keep that thing somewhere I’ll see it all the time and won’t forget about it. I have, however, been pretty much killing it when it comes to hitting my step goal! Go me!! And go me for at least trying to stick with these goals since the beginning of the year! Usually by now I would have long given up on bothering to keep track of them. πŸ˜‚

I’m pretty excited to see what I can get accomplished in June! I’m hoping to get in a little more mileage considering that I won’t be having much more in the line of dental work done. I still have to get my permanent crowns put in, but after that I should be good on that front! At least for a while! Haha now I’ve just gotta hope the rest of my teeth hold up until next year, because I am officially out of dental insurance. πŸ˜†

Anyway, my sisters’ birthday is this month (they’re twins!!) and so is my dads! My new chicks should be at the post office any day now! And although I’m still super pissed that I’ve got to start all the way other when it comes to chicken raising, I am pretty excited about cute, new babies! πŸ₯ My garden is growing like crazy and pretty soon I should be getting lots of tomatoes and zucchini. Next month we’re going on a big family vacation to Branson, Mo and I start an official half marathon training plan! I’m gonna have to tweak that a little though, since I’m going to be running two half marathons in two days in November. So I’m starting to get more and more busy, but I like it! It kinda keeps me motivated and makes trying to fit runs in a little more interesting haha.

Happy first day of June!!

April Miles and Goal Check In

I totally forgot to do one of these last month. Oops. That’s my bad.

Hahaha but in all fairness, I was out of town and pretty busy doing stuff with family for Easter. πŸ˜‰ Anyways, lets get right to it, shall we?

img_1376

Not bad! Not bad at all!! It’s been like, a crazy long time, but I feel like I’ve actually been accomplishing something this month. I’ve been in kind of a rut for a lot longer than I’d like to admit when it comes to running, but I’m pretty sure I’ve been making progress with putting that all behind me this month and I Got. Shit. Done! Yay me!!

I feel like the whole running 2 half marathons in 2 days thing that I’m going to be attempting to do in November (which you can read more about here and here. πŸ˜‰ ) was exactly the kick in the ass that I needed to shut up and start putting in the real work again. Now the real question is will I be able to keep this up until then? So far I’m thinking I will! I mean, I’m kinda gonna have to now that I’ve got a big, crazy goal that I want to accomplish. Plus it helps that my dad also has a big, crazy goal that he’s working toward; his first half marathon! He’s going to be doing the second half marathon that I’m doing with me! πŸ™‚ And he’s totally killing it!! We’ve been texting each other non stop about how our training runs are going, so just having someone I can do things like that with is definitely helping my situation, and I imagine it will continue to do so as we both get farther into our training. πŸ™‚

Now then, onto the goals that I set for myself at the beginning of the year!

Okey dokey, so I’ve been crushing my step goal! The plan has been to walk 10,000 stepsΒ mostΒ days. I didn’t set out to walk 10,000 stepsΒ everydayΒ because I knew there would be no way I could get that done. I need a full day off from everything every once in a while. Still though, I did really well with it in April. πŸ™‚

img_1379

I’ve been using the app HabitBull to keep track of this goal.Β

And of course my other main goal was to write in my training journal everyday and include at least one good thing that’s happened in every entry. And I was doing really well with that up until about a week and a half ago haha. I just kinda forgot about it a few times and it’s spiraled out of control since then. πŸ˜‰ But now that I’ve reminded myself that it’s something that I wanted to do this year, I’m gonna go fill it out right now. πŸ™‚

I feel like I’ve had a really good month and I’m super excited to see what I can accomplish this month. Happy first day of May!!

Until next time,

~Ashley

February Miles And Goal Check In

Well, unless I manage to squeeze in a run today (which at the time of writing this I’m not sure if we have anything on the agenda for today. I’m currently in Colorado visiting my parents and my dad might be planning another fun adventure.) I’m ending February with 18.57 miles run.

Honestly, that’s not bad considering I had my second toe incident in two years happen this month. Haha this time I slipped, fell, and stubbed my toe on the foot of my couch. And then immediately went and ran 4 miles on it because it looked fine and only hurt a little. But it did not look fine after that 4 miler haha. Although I did not see a doctor (they wouldn’t have been able to do anything about it anyway), I’m pretty sure I at the very least fractured it and was unable to really even walk on it for two weeks.

img_9512

This was taken on February 7th, the day I stubbed it. Luckily it doesn’t look like that anymore haha. It’s still got a small, brownish bruise on it, but other than that my toe looks pretty much normal again. It’s still kinda sore though, and I can definitely feel it if I’ve been standing on it too long. But I’ve been able to start doing a little bit of running again. πŸ™‚

Anyway, as for my yearly goals, well, I kinda fell of the bandwagon with those a little bit. But in all fairness, walking 10,000 steps on a broken toe would have been a bad idea. So I just kind forwent that and focused on resting, icing, compressing, and elevating my toe. And all things considered, I think it did heal pretty darn fast. So staying off of it for a while probably helped speed up that process.

img_0056

Haha just by looking at my little Habit Bull chart thing, you can see when I broke it. When I was trying to stay off of it. And when I started getting back into the swing of things.Β

I haven’t really been writing a good thing every in my training journal either. But I mean, I haven’t been training so I haven’t been journaling about that. Also I kinda forgot to bring it to Colorado with me. πŸ˜‚ But I plan on resuming that once I get back home. πŸ˜„

And speaking of goals, I really need to update my “Goals and PR’s page“. I haven’t done that yet and we’re already entering the 3rd month of the year. Haha oh well better late than never, right? I’ll have to do do that when I get home as well.

Anyway, all in all I’m pretty happy with how this month went, considering my probably broken toe. I was still pretty active. I spent a lot of time on my stationary bike and even did a pretty decent amount of upper body work. Thanks to that I’m pretty sure I didn’t lose as much fitness as I could of if I hadn’t done that. So far returning to running hasn’t been all that bad. 😊

How did your February go? Really well, I hope! Wishing everyone a very happy March!

January Miles and Goal Check In

The first month of the year has come and gone! Well, almost. I suppose there are a few hours left in the last day of the month. πŸ˜‰

img_9229

Anyway, did you have any goals for the new year? How are they holding up so far?? I hope you’re totally killing it and making them happen! As far as my goals for 2018 go, well, they really aren’t going at the moment. You can read all about what my goals for the year are here, since I probably wont get into the specifics or reasoning behind them in this post. πŸ™‚

Ever since running my third half marathon in November, I’ve been experiencing some weird anxiety (I say weird, but anxiety is basically just a normal part of my everyday life) issues when I run. Anxiety in general is absolutely no fun, but for me, running usually really helps keep it under control. But for a while there I was experiencing very panic attack-y feelings usually about a mile or two into any given run, that turned into the full blown thing by the time I would get home. Yeah, that was a really rough period of time in my life…Especially when the thing that usually helps, was causing the issue.

I’ve yet to figure outΒ whyΒ that was happening, but I have finally worked through most of it and am able to run without any issues and am definitely enjoying it again! But that’s kinda put a damper on my plans of increasing my weekly running mileage to about 50 miles per week, which is one of my running goals for 2018. I had a whole plan written out and everything, but that’s pretty much out the window at this point. In some ways I feel like I’m starting over from scratch, considering the very small amounts of running I’ve been able to accomplish since November. But at the very least I have been doing a little bit of running, and I’ve still got a couple years of decently consistent running in my legs. So I suppose even though I feel like I’m starting over, I’m really not. Right now this goal looks a bit daunting, but I know if I can pick myself up, brush myself off, and move onward and forward, I can get to where I want to be, as long as I put in the work.

Speaking of putting in the work, well, not much work was done this month. I’ve run a measly 36.87 miles in January thanks to the issues I talked about above. I guess working through that shit is a valid reason to have such a low mileage month, but honestly I’m a little disappointed with myself. I know I can do better and I should do better. But I guess I have the whole month of February (and the rest of the year) to prove that to myself! πŸ™‚

img_9379

So another one on my goals for this year is to hit my step goalΒ most of the time.Β I know that’s really vague, but I know what that means in my mind and that works for me!! Although I haven’t been doing so hot with hitting that goal either. I downloaded this app called “Habit Bull” that helps me keep track of my goals, so that’s been helping me actually see how often I’m accomplishing what it is that I want to do. As you can see in the photo below, I’m wasn’tΒ doing so great with hitting 10,000 steps initially, but I’ve finally gotten my shit together and am starting to it done! πŸ™‚

img_9368

And last but not least, I’m also keeping a training log this year! So far I’m doing really well at keeping up with that, and writing down one good thing every single day, which is another thing I want to do for the entire year. I’ve tried keeping other training logs before, but I always end up forgetting to write in them and then by the time I finally remember I can’t remember anything really useful about the workouts I’d forgotten to log. But writing my one good thing for the day keeps me coming back every day and that’s been helping so far. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if I can actually stick with it!

img_9367

Alrighty then! I feel like I’m still ending January on a pretty decent note and I’m definitely ready to kick some ass and get shit done in February!! Bring it on!!

(Side note; “Wednesday” and “February” are two words that I will literally never learn how to spell correctly. Like, I’ve heard all of the tips and tricks and whatnot that are supposed to help, but they’ve never stuck in my mind. Thank goodness for spell check hahaha!)

Happy Hump Day! Goodbye January! Bring it on February!!!
