April Miles and Goal Check In

I totally forgot to do one of these last month. Oops. That’s my bad.

Hahaha but in all fairness, I was out of town and pretty busy doing stuff with family for Easter. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyways, lets get right to it, shall we?

Not bad! Not bad at all!! It’s been like, a crazy long time, but I feel like I’ve actually been accomplishing something this month. I’ve been in kind of a rut for a lot longer than I’d like to admit when it comes to running, but I’m pretty sure I’ve been making progress with putting that all behind me this month and I Got. Shit. Done! Yay me!!

I feel like the whole running 2 half marathons in 2 days thing that I’m going to be attempting to do in November (which you can read more about here and here. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) was exactly the kick in the ass that I needed to shut up and start putting in the real work again. Now the real question is will I be able to keep this up until then? So far I’m thinking I will! I mean, I’m kinda gonna have to now that I’ve got a big, crazy goal that I want to accomplish. Plus it helps that my dad also has a big, crazy goal that he’s working toward; his first half marathon! He’s going to be doing the second half marathon that I’m doing with me! ๐Ÿ™‚ And he’s totally killing it!! We’ve been texting each other non stop about how our training runs are going, so just having someone I can do things like that with is definitely helping my situation, and I imagine it will continue to do so as we both get farther into our training. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now then, onto the goals that I set for myself at the beginning of the year!

Okey dokey, so I’ve been crushing my step goal! The plan has been to walk 10,000 stepsย mostย days. I didn’t set out to walk 10,000 stepsย everydayย because I knew there would be no way I could get that done. I need a full day off from everything every once in a while. Still though, I did really well with it in April. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been using the app HabitBull to keep track of this goal.ย 

And of course my other main goal was to write in my training journal everyday and include at least one good thing that’s happened in every entry. And I was doing really well with that up until about a week and a half ago haha. I just kinda forgot about it a few times and it’s spiraled out of control since then. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But now that I’ve reminded myself that it’s something that I wanted to do this year, I’m gonna go fill it out right now. ๐Ÿ™‚

I feel like I’ve had a really good month and I’m super excited to see what I can accomplish this month. Happy first day of May!!

February Miles And Goal Check In

Well, unless I manage to squeeze in a run today (which at the time of writing this I’m not sure if we have anything on the agenda for today. I’m currently in Colorado visiting my parents and my dad might be planning another fun adventure.) I’m ending February with 18.57 miles run.

Honestly, that’s not bad considering I had my second toe incident in two years happen this month. Haha this time I slipped, fell, and stubbed my toe on the foot of my couch. And then immediately went and ran 4 miles on it because it looked fine and only hurt a little. But it did not look fine after that 4 miler haha. Although I did not see a doctor (they wouldn’t have been able to do anything about it anyway), I’m pretty sure I at the very least fractured it and was unable to really even walk on it for two weeks.

This was taken on February 7th, the day I stubbed it. Luckily it doesn’t look like that anymore haha. It’s still got a small, brownish bruise on it, but other than that my toe looks pretty much normal again. It’s still kinda sore though, and I can definitely feel it if I’ve been standing on it too long. But I’ve been able to start doing a little bit of running again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, as for my yearly goals, well, I kinda fell of the bandwagon with those a little bit. But in all fairness, walking 10,000 steps on a broken toe would have been a bad idea. So I just kind forwent that and focused on resting, icing, compressing, and elevating my toe. And all things considered, I think it did heal pretty darn fast. So staying off of it for a while probably helped speed up that process.

Haha just by looking at my little Habit Bull chart thing, you can see when I broke it. When I was trying to stay off of it. And when I started getting back into the swing of things.ย 

I haven’t really been writing a good thing every in my training journal either. But I mean, I haven’t been training so I haven’t been journaling about that. Also I kinda forgot to bring it to Colorado with me. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But I plan on resuming that once I get back home. ๐Ÿ˜„

And speaking of goals, I really need to update my “Goals and PR’s page“. I haven’t done that yet and we’re already entering the 3rd month of the year. Haha oh well better late than never, right? I’ll have to do do that when I get home as well.

Anyway, all in all I’m pretty happy with how this month went, considering my probably broken toe. I was still pretty active. I spent a lot of time on my stationary bike and even did a pretty decent amount of upper body work. Thanks to that I’m pretty sure I didn’t lose as much fitness as I could of if I hadn’t done that. So far returning to running hasn’t been all that bad. ๐Ÿ˜Š

January Miles and Goal Check In

The first month of the year has come and gone! Well, almost. I suppose there are a few hours left in the last day of the month. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, did you have any goals for the new year? How are they holding up so far?? I hope you’re totally killing it and making them happen! As far as my goals for 2018 go, well, they really aren’t going at the moment. You can read all about what my goals for the year are here, since I probably wont get into the specifics or reasoning behind them in this post. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ever since running my third half marathon in November, I’ve been experiencing some weird anxiety (I say weird, but anxiety is basically just a normal part of my everyday life) issues when I run. Anxiety in general is absolutely no fun, but for me, running usually really helps keep it under control. But for a while there I was experiencing very panic attack-y feelings usually about a mile or two into any given run, that turned into the full blown thing by the time I would get home. Yeah, that was a really rough period of time in my life…Especially when the thing that usually helps, was causing the issue.

I’ve yet to figure outย whyย that was happening, but I have finally worked through most of it and am able to run without any issues and am definitely enjoying it again! But that’s kinda put a damper on my plans of increasing my weekly running mileage to about 50 miles per week, which is one of my running goals for 2018. I had a whole plan written out and everything, but that’s pretty much out the window at this point. In some ways I feel like I’m starting over from scratch, considering the very small amounts of running I’ve been able to accomplish since November. But at the very least I have been doing a little bit of running, and I’ve still got a couple years of decently consistent running in my legs. So I suppose even though I feel like I’m starting over, I’m really not. Right now this goal looks a bit daunting, but I know if I can pick myself up, brush myself off, and move onward and forward, I can get to where I want to be, as long as I put in the work.

Speaking of putting in the work, well, not much work was done this month. I’ve run a measly 36.87 miles in January thanks to the issues I talked about above. I guess working through that shit is a valid reason to have such a low mileage month, but honestly I’m a little disappointed with myself. I know I can do better and I should do better. But I guess I have the whole month of February (and the rest of the year) to prove that to myself! ๐Ÿ™‚

So another one on my goals for this year is to hit my step goalย most of the time.ย I know that’s really vague, but I know what that means in my mind and that works for me!! Although I haven’t been doing so hot with hitting that goal either. I downloaded this app called “Habit Bull” that helps me keep track of my goals, so that’s been helping me actually see how often I’m accomplishing what it is that I want to do. As you can see in the photo below, I’m wasn’tย doing so great with hitting 10,000 steps initially, but I’ve finally gotten my shit together and am starting to it done! ๐Ÿ™‚

And last but not least, I’m also keeping a training log this year! So far I’m doing really well at keeping up with that, and writing down one good thing every single day, which is another thing I want to do for the entire year. I’ve tried keeping other training logs before, but I always end up forgetting to write in them and then by the time I finally remember I can’t remember anything really useful about the workouts I’d forgotten to log. But writing my one good thing for the day keeps me coming back every day and that’s been helping so far. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if I can actually stick with it!

Alrighty then! I feel like I’m still ending January on a pretty decent note and I’m definitely ready to kick some ass and get shit done in February!! Bring it on!!

(Side note; “Wednesday” and “February” are two words that I will literally never learn how to spell correctly. Like, I’ve heard all of the tips and tricks and whatnot that are supposed to help, but they’ve never stuck in my mind. Thank goodness for spell check hahaha!)

Happy First Day Of May!!

Good morning and happy first day of the week AND month!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I always love when the first day of the month falls on a Monday! A new week and new month means a fresh start and all that motivational bullshit. Really I just like making new goals for myself and the first day of the week or month (or both in cases like today!) is a great time to do that!

So my goals for this week and month are pretty simple, but that just works better for me. Every time I try to come up with some elaborate plan for myself or just try to do too much at once I end up getting overwhelmed and quitting. So simple is definitely good for me! Anyway, this month I want to run 60 miles and follow the blogilates May workout calendar. That’s pretty simple. I ran 51.73 miles in may, so to hit 60 miles in May all I have to do is one or two more long runs. Easy enough. And it’s been a while since I’ve actually followed a Blogilates workout calendar but I’ve done it several times before, so I should be able to accomplish that as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

As far as this week goes, I’m just going to follow my training plan and I’M NOT GOING TO SKIP MY LONG RUN THIS WEEK!!!! Haha I feel like I’ve been skipping out on my long runs a lot lately, so I’m for sure going to run 8-10 miles on either Saturday or Sunday. It’s GOING to happen.

Skipping long runs is actually why my mileage in April was a little lower than I would have liked. I mean, 51.72 miles is by no means bad and I’m glad I went a little over 50 miles for the month, but I would have rather of hit 60-70 ish miles for the month. That’s why I’m specifically aiming for 60 miles for May. Knowing I have a specific goal to work towards usually motivates me to get shit done! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyways, that’s pretty much all I’ve got for this morning. Today is technically supposed to be my rest day, but it’s chilly and cloudy out this morning and I skipped my long run yesterday, so I’m thinking a nice 5 or 6 mile interval workout would be a lot of fun to do! Well maybe, that depends on how I feel when I get out there, but I’m definitely going to go run! ๐Ÿ™‚

February Miles

Between a sore quad one week, and a weekend in Colorado the next, I’m falling a bit behind on my goal of running 1,000 miles this year. Luckily It’s still early enough in the year, so I have plenty of time to make up for it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Plus, almost 60 miles in a short month still isn’t bad! I’m actually quite happy with how this month of running went. Especially since my little quad strain didn’t have the chance to develop into a full blown injury. That would have really put a damper on my goal. At least now I’m not injured and I still have some time to do some catching up. ๐Ÿ™‚

January Miles

One month down, eleven more to go! 2016 absolutely flew by and it already seems like 2017 is on pace to do the same thing! Maybe it’s just something that happens as you get older, but it seems like every year goes by a little bit faster. Anyway, I feel like I’m off to a pretty decent start this year. 

Not quite the milage I was aiming for, 11 more miles (so, the long run I skipped and one of the extra days I took off) and I would have hit my goal right on the head. I can’t really be too upset though, most months last year I was only hitting 50-60 miles a month, so this is definitely a good starting point for my goal of running 1,000 miles this year. ๐Ÿ˜€

I guess my goal for February is to get up to 80 miles (hey, it’s only 28 days long, so I might as well aim for a few less miles ๐Ÿ˜‰). Although obviously I wouldn’t mind if I could manage a few more, but we’ll just have to see how that goes. I’m feeling pretty optimistic right now, so hopefully that’ll carry on throughout the next 28 days!

December and 2016 Miles

Ok but seriously, how is it already the last day of December/2016?!? This month and year totally flew by! And not necessarily in a good way, I think. This year wasn’t all that bad for me personally, but I am among one of the many people who are very much ready to bid 2016 adieu. 

Anyway, I made it out of December with 51.51 miles. Not bad considering I’m taking a little break. That’s crazy close to what I ran in November (50.53 miles, if I remember correctly) and I ran a half marathon that month, then took 12 days off. So I’m kinda stoked that I’ve at least been consistent with my monthly mileage these past few months. I’d like to get back up to the 80 miles I ran in October, but that’s going to take some doing. I’m feeling pretty patient about that kinda thing right now though, so I’m willing to wait, work on it, and slowly build back up. ๐Ÿ™‚


That brings me to 564.87 miles run in 2016. My goal was to run 500 this year, so I totally crushed it!! I’m trying to decide if I want to aim for 700 or 800 miles in 2017. I know I said I was feeling patient, and I totally am, but I’m going into the new year in better shape and without injury, unlike last year when I was still dealing with hip/shin stuff. And I mean, why not aim a little high? Meh, I guess I  can still wait a few days before I make my decision, but I’m seriously thinking 800 sounds like a good number. I’d have to run close to 70 miles every month (more like a little over 66) and that would be very doable. I could seriously just add two 10 mile long runs to what I’ve already been doing for the past 2 months, and right now I think that’s actually pretty realistic for me. Obviously there are other ways I could go about that, but I do want to start consistently doing 10 milers.
