It’s the last day of January! Finally!! Does anyone else feel like January was at least 25586337 days this year?? Like, New Year’s Eve was so long ago! Christmas? Ha! I can’t remember that far back!
I don’t know man, it just feels like October, November, and December just FLEW by so January had to make up for all of that. 😂
Anyway, this super slow month brought with it a crazy snow storm, Finn and Dean’s birthday’s, a few home improvement projects, a super exciting thing that I can’t tell you about yet (soon though!), rain and ice, and now this whole polar vortex thing. Some of that definitely slowed down getting in my step goal some days (you just can’t be outside for extended periods of time when it’s below 0 out and that makes getting in steps harder), but I sure didn’t let that stop me from getting some decent running mileage in!! Heck, I ran 4 miles in the middle of the crazy snow storm earlier this month, and braved a lot of the ice, and cold, and other “bad” weather we’ve had. Hahaha that’s not really asking much of me though, I kinda love it. ❄️🏃🏻♀️😂 There we’re some days where I just had to hit the treadmill though. Not ideal in my winter loving world, but at least I got shit done! 👍🏻😊
I ended my month with a 3 miler this morning and that brings me to a total of 69.89 miles for the month of January! I’m not quite on track to hit 1,000 miles in 2019 at this point, but I’m not too worried about that right now. I’m slowly building up and I’m pretty confident that I can hit that goal this year. 😊
As for my other goals, I’ve definitely been heading in the right direction! I’ve got done time goals that I’d like to accomplish this year so I’ve been focusing on getting stronger, more resilient, and more well rounded as an athlete. I’ve been doing some speed work yes, but right now I’m really focusing on getting stronger! And that means hill workouts and actually doing some real strength training session. So far so good!!
Kind of going along with strength, I’ve decided to work on headstands again, just for fun! I used to be really good at them but I just kinda stopped working on them for a while. Probably because I stopped seeing yoga as a way to get stronger and instead was only really focusing on the stretching aspect of it. But anyway, I’ve been practicing headstands again and I’m remembering how much of a arm/shoulder/ab workout they can be. 😂 It’s been fun though! I’m pretty stoked to see that I haven’t completely lost my headstand skills. 😊
Like I mentioned before, some of the weather has kind of impeded on me hitting my step goal as often as I would like, but still not doing terrible at it! Hahaha honestly the dogs are the ones suffering the most in this aspect! Usually I hit my step goal pretty easily because I run and then will walk a couple of dogs. But on some of these super cold or icy days I just haven’t been able to take them out. Still though, I didn’t do too bad at this one. 😊
Let’s see, I also wanted to focus a little more on 1 percent-ers this year. Yoga, foam rolling, getting enough sleep, things of that nature. I’d say so far I’m doing pretty well with all of that. But really I also need to focus on warming up before I run. 😂 Baby steps though. I’ve just gotten back into regularly foam rolling this month. So one little thing at a time. 😉 Another thing I wanted to do was focus on nutrition. I’ve definitely managed to clean up my diet a lot this month. Now I really need to focus on getting enough protein in my diet. I’m kinda terrible at that. 😂
And last but not least, I want to successfully keep a training log this year! I kind of did off and on last year, but I definitely wasn’t consistent enough with it for it to really be of any use to me. But for my birthday in November my husband got me a Believe Training Journal and I’ve been filling that out since December! Honestly it’s a super easy training journal to keep up with! It’s super pretty and full of little extra writing prompts and whatnot. I love it! 😊
