Streaking Is Hard

But it’s starting to get easier. At least I think it is haha. Accomplished 2.5 miles for day 12 of #RWRunStreak. 🙂 The plan was actually 3, but I’m super tired and once I got to 2.5 I figured that was close enough. 😉 On the bright side, my legs are feeling a lot less sore/tired today so  that’s good! I guess they’re starting to adjust to the whole streaking thing.

How super awesome are my matching skills?! 😉

After my run I did day 2 of the 30 Day Shred. Now that was really hard. Mostly because my upper body is crazy sore today. But I suppose that’s just another reason to stick with this workout program. My upper body has always been pathetically weak and that’s something I really need to work on. So I am working on it. 🙂

img_8102

Right now I’m motivating myself to keep up with this workout program, the streak, upping my running mileage, cross training, and stretching, by telling myself it’s all pre-marathon training. Because I want to train for and run a full marathon in 2019! I think I’ve kinda mentioned that here before already, but I’ve already been looking into local marathons and trying to figure out which one it is that I’m gonna want to do. 🙂 A couple of people have asked me why I don’t do one next year in 2018. Well the answer to that is basically what I mentioned above. I want to build up my running base and mileage, get stronger, and hopefully less injury prone. So that’s the plan! Spend next year really working on all of that and then hopefully I’ll be ready to tackle my first marathon in 2019!

Anyways, since I am so tired from this streak I feel like I haven’t been getting a whole lot accomplished haha. I’ve been sleeping in a little bit every morning, I napped for an hour and a half yesterday, and I’ve just been focusing on recover activities right now. I’ve been using my self massage stick thing-y on my quads for a few minutes pretty much everyday, stretching, wearing compression gear, and stuff like that. So yeah, I feel like my whole life is revolving around running and recovering from running right now. But I’m thinking that tiredness will go away once my body adjusts a little bit more and I get stronger. This is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while, not just streaking but upping my mileage as well, so I’m just gonna stick with it because I know it will eventually get easier. 🙂

And I say that I feel like I’m not getting anything accomplished and feel almost lazy, but I still won both step challenges that I was competing in last week, have managed to keep the house in somewhat decent shape, wrapped a bunch of Christmas presents, spent a good amount of time cleaning and doing/putting away laundry today, and still had time to walk one of the dogs. Haha and we don’t go for walks around the block, our walks tend to be around 2 ish miles every time. Sometimes longer. 🙂 So I guess I’m not actually being as lazy and I feel like I am.

Anyways, I suppose that’s all I’ve got for today. I hope everyone has a great week!

Friday Fives: You Might Be A Runner If…

Haha yeah, I’m taking a page out of Jeff Foxworhty’s book, what of it? 😉

But I’m always amused and intrigued about what makes us runners so different from all of the non-runners out there. Because lets be honest, people who do run are most definitely different than the people who don’t. And that’s not a bad thing! being different is a great thing if you ask me! It’s just funny to think about all of the stuff that runners find normal or things that are just a regular part of their everyday life, that maybe someone who doesn’t run (or doesn’t live with a runner, at this point my husband is very used to all of my weird runner habbits 😉 ) would find to be strange.

I personally think there are a lot of things runners do that would probably be considered strange to anyone else, including myself several years ago before I started running. But since it’s Friday, we’re gonna stick with five for now. 🙂

1. You tuck your headphones into your shirt, even when it’s not exactly necessary.

Ok first off, if you don’t keep your headphone wire under your shirt you totally should (if you run with headphones that is)! It will literally change your life! Haha it sure changed mine! And I know I can’t be the only one who gets super duper annoyed by that wire swinging all over the place.

So maybe this isn’t necessarily all that strange, but now every time I see someone else with they’re headphones tucked under their shirt I wonder if they’re a runner/some other kind of athlete. Because at this point I do it out of habit every single time I put in my headphones haha.

So you can kinda see my headphones in this photo haha. But as per usual they’re under my shirt, even though it was totally unnecessary to have them there.

2. You think Poop, snot rockets, gross feet, the color of your pee, pretty much any subject involving bodily functions is not off limits. Especially when talking to other runners.

In my experience runners tend to be much more comfortable about talking about their bodies and bodily functions. I mean, we all know how necessary the pre race poop is, how snot rockets are actually an art form, wear every blister, callus, and black toe nail as a badge of honor, and that the color of your pee can provide you with some pretty useful information! Haha and we aren’t afraid to talk about it either!! At my last half marathon I overheard two people who, as far as I could tell, were complete strangers talking about having the nervous poops before the race. And no one was at all put off by their conversation! Hell, other people were joining in too, it was great! I think it’s pretty great that we can talk about those kinds of things without it being weird. I think everyone should be more open about normal bodily functions because it’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

img_8609

Haha this actually wasn’t a running related injury, but it is the only photo of a black toenail that I have. 😉

3. You NEED to bring a water bottle with you wherever you go because hydration is important!!!

Speaking of the color of your pee, keeping it at that nice light yellow color (think the color of lemon juice, if it’s the color of apple juice you might want to drink some more water. 😉 ) can be a lot of work. So whenever you’re out and about it’s usually a good idea to bring water with you. So I guess you could also say you might be a runner if you’re really good at finding bathrooms, because staying hydrated requires frequent bathroom breaks.

img_4941

I rarely go anywhere without a water bottle haha.

4. You’re the first to leave the party, go home, or go to bed.

Because hey, more likely than not you’ve got a long run, or race, or hard workout scheduled for the next day and you want to be well rested for it. Or you may just need to wake up early to get it done for whatever reason. Either way, you gotta admit that it takes some hardcore dedication to say no to one more beer, one more game, one more hour, one more chapter, you get my point, and get into bed at a reasonable hour. 😉 But 9 times out of 10 its totally worth it!

5. You Consider Waking Up At 8 am “Sleeping In”

Obviously that kind of depends on an individual’s work/school scheduled, but it’s been my experience that a lot of runners would rather get their workouts done first thing in the morning. And sometimes that means waking up at 6, 5, or even 4 in the morning. So when you’re consistently getting up that early every day sleeping until 7 or 8 am can feel likes sleeping in late. And bonus points if you get a weird look from your friend, family member, or coworker when you tell them you totally slept in late and felt like half of your day was wasted because you slept in until 8. 😉 Honestly one of my favorite things about being a runner is that I often wake up, eat, run, eat again, and shower, all before most people have even gotten out of bed.

Runners do weird stuff. But that’s part of the reason why being a runner is so freaking awesome! 🙂

Half Marathon Training Day 35 (Because I’m Still An Athlete On Off Days), Life Is Messy, New Hair, and Other Catching Up In General

Oh man life is messy. I’ve currently got a lot going on with multiple sides of my family, I’m training for a half marathon, keeping up with my husband, my dogs, a new rabbit, my other rabbit and other pets, my sister’s dog, my garden, the house, and just life in general. I’m also still kind of experiencing the post concert blues (haha yup, I’m still hung up on all the Green Day feels. You can read about that night here and here if you missed it. 😉 I’m feeling a little bit overwhelmed right now and I feel like I’ve been neglecting several of the things mentioned above, along with this blog and my Vidme account. Haha I’m also going to shamelessly plug my Instagram account while I’m at it, because I am actually keeping up with that. 😉

So yeah, as you can probably already tell, I’m going to be linking to several older posts in this little update. Mostly because I’m trying to organize all of my thoughts and re-reading the stuff I’ve already written helps. And ya know, it helps anyone who missed anything and wanted to catch up with the weirdness that is my life or wanted to go back and figure out what the heck I’m talking about haha. I like to think it helps.

Anyway,  I’m not entirety sure where to start or where this post is going to end up going so if you’re reading this you’re about to embark on what is probably going to be a long adventure in self reflection and discovery with me. 🙂 Okey Dokey, lets get into it then shall we?

Starting with running! Yay running! The whole reason I started this blog and one thing that I think sometimes I neglect to talk in depth enough here haha. So, half marathon training day ___ actually ended up being a rest day. That wasn’t supposed to be the case (according to my training scheduled, anyway.), today was supposed to be a long run day. 10 miles to be exact. I wasn’t entirely sure if that was going to happen though. In my last post here on the blog, I talked a little bit about how I ended up hurting my knee (at the Green Day concert, I think) and ended up taking all of last week off from running. It’s been feeling better this week, but it’s still not back at 100% yet. I’ve been able to do all of my workouts this week with minimal pain, but I wasn’t sure how it would hold up for 10 miles. But of course last night was one of those nights when I just couldn’t fall asleep (that happens to me every once in a while). I finally fell asleep around 1:40 am, but at that point I knew my long run wasn’t going to happen today. So I decided to rest today and hopefully do a long run tomorrow. Haha at the very least now my knee is getting an extra day off after the interval workout I did yesterday.

So yeah, no running for me today. But I am still working on things that will make tomorrow’s (hopefully) long run better. I’ve been eating pretty well, I’m drinking plenty of water, and I’ve done a little bit of stretching/ foam rolling. Go me! 🙂 Haha I have this really bad habit of getting super lazy and not taking care of myself on days when I don’t run. I’m trying to work on that though. I’ve been telling myself that I’m still an athlete on my days off and that means I should act as such. So far that’s gone well for me today, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see if I actually stick with it.

So yeah, running stuff. 😉 Haha I’ll actually be posting a Weekly Recap this week, so if you’re at all interested in how my 3rd (I think it’s the 3rd anyway) week of half marathon training is going that’ll be up at some point tomorrow.

Ok moving on to some animal stuff (because I can’t not talk about them 😉 ). So two-ish weeks ago I had mentioned that our rabbit, Rey had died. Luke and I were worried about our other rabbit, Daisy, because rabbits are very social and she’s always had Rey, so Luke ended up bringing home a new baby bunny that very day. She is an adorable little fluffball who I’ve named Rune. 🙂

Unfortunately Daisy has been acting very strange about the new bunny situation. When we first introduced them she was fine, she would clean her, cuddle her, and they seemed like they were going to be fast friends. That wasn’t the case though…She ended up shoving Rune into the corner of the cage and wouldn’t let her near the food, but when I tried to take Rune out of the cage that little bitch bit me (something she’s never done!) and literally grabbed Rune by the foot and dragged her back into the cage. So yeah, they live in separate cages now and we’re slowly trying to introduce them back to each other.

On the bright side, Rune is a very sweet little rabbit! She’s very social and loves to be pet. Haha last night I was trying to read in my bed while I let her run around, which she did. But she’d also let me know that I wasn’t paying enough attention to her by headbutting me whenever she wanted to be pet. Silly little thing.

And sticking with animals for just one moment longer, my Sister’s dog Ace is still here. He was originally going to be here for 4 days, but at this point we’re going on 3 weeks. I mean, it’s not like he’s a bad dog or anything and he gets along fine with my dogs, but it’s loooong past time for him to go home…Supposedly my sister’s boyfriend is supposed to come get him tomorrow, but I guess we’ll see if that actually happens. He was supposed to come a week ago to get him, but he didn’t because we we’re too far out of his way…And yeah, our house is about 30 minutes out of the way when you’re driving from Illinois (where he’s from) to Colorado where my sister now lives, but on a 10+ hour car ride that’s really not that bad. Especailly since he can stop here and nap if he wants to, eat for free, walk around, use the bathroom, etc. But whatever.

img_5881

He enjoys laying on my yoga mat while I’m trying to stretch.

Alright! I think I’m actually getting close to the end of stuff I wanted to talk about! Haha I thought this was going to take a lot longer for me to get all out. Apparently I didn’t want to go as in depth into this stuff as I thought haha. 😉

Anyways, onto my last order of business, I changed my hair!! I got super bored with my natural hair color/blond streak that I’ve been rocking off and on since I was 17, so I dyed it black. And I succsessfully did it without dyeing my forehead/ears black as well!! Haha last time I dyed my hair black I did and it looked awful…But I didn’t do it this time and I’m definitely enjoying the change! I’m thinking I’m going to end up sticking with the black for a while, but eventually I’m going to start missing my blond streak and I’ll end up with it again. Over the years I’ve gone with a purple streak, my usual blond streak, red, short red, black, medium black (what I’ve currently go going on), but I always end up back at the blond streak. Haha it’s just easier to keep up with and I think it looks neat. But like I said, I’m very happy with the change right now, and I’m gonna stick with it for a while.

Alrighty, I believe that basically sums up what I’ve had going on in my life. For the most part at least. But now that I’m back at running and mostly back on my regular scheduled, I’ll be more active here on the blog and talking more about half marathon training, and eventually I’ll start making vlogs again.

Ok, I need to go mop my floors now. I hope you have a great weekend!
