Happy Mail Day To Me!!

I’ve been watching this documentary series thing about the 90’s on Netflix and it’s been super entertaining/slightly nostalgia (I was born in ’91 so I only really remember the later 90’s). I’ve really been enjoying it aside from the fact that they barely even included Green Day their music episode. Dookie was literally one of the biggest albums of the 90’s. Especially coming out the year Kurt Cobain does. But whatever…I guess they almost made up for it by the amount of time they spent on Nirvana. Almost. And of course they ended the episode with Good Riddance playing in the background. ClichΓ©, but my little fan-girl heart was still happy to hear it. πŸ˜‚

Hi my name is Ashley and I’m the world’s biggest Green Day fan. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

Oh man, anyway. This series has done exactly what it was probably meant to do, I suppose. It’s gotten me thinking of just how far we’ve come (and how far we haven’t come) as the human race. Like, 30 years ago the internet was barely even a thing but now we have access to it 24/7 via these relatively tiny devices that we carry with us in our pockets. Really it’s kinda mind blowing when you think of it!

At this point we can purchase basically anything we could possibly dream of and have it delivered to our front doors in just a few days. And once it is delivered we snap a photo with the small devices that give us access to the internet at all times and post about it on our social media accounts. And thus, the whole “mail day” social media thing began. Pretty crazy, right?! πŸ˜‚

So I revived two packages today! The first one came via the good ol’ USPS this morning and I wasn’t exactly expecting it. That’s always a good feeling, right?! 😁 The second was delivered via FedEx (dude, don’t even get me started on all of the delivery options we have today! And how much that’s grown, especially with Amazon and drones and people renting out vans just to deliver stuff. Holy moly!!πŸ˜‚). That one I was expecting, tracking, and highly anticipating! πŸ˜‰

So, our regular mail actually comes super duper early in the morning. Around 8-9 am, which has always kinda blown my mind. Back when I lived in Illinois it always came around 3-4 pm. But I guess that’s the difference between living in town, almost across the street from the post office and on a farm in the middle of nowhere. πŸ˜‚ Anyway, today I got the mail as usual, whatever. But there was a package in there addressed to me from a local running store! Yay!! I wasn’t really expecting it (even though I was promised this stuff) but I knew exactly what it was and was pretty stoked about it!

My ambassador stuff from the Gobbler Grind Half finally came!! Hahaha back in February I was accepted as an ambassador for the Gobbler Grind and was promised some apparel and flyers basically in exchange for free advertising (which really is all any ambassador program is πŸ˜‰). They said “a few weeks” but I guess that turned into “a few months”. I’m not complaining or anything though. I’ve never organized a race so I have no idea what all goes into that, but I’m sure the race director and everyone is is pretty busy all year. Planning this race and more likely than not a few others. Really all that waiting did was turn it into a pleasant surprise because I had almost forgotten about it. πŸ˜‚

But anyway, now I’ve got a sweet Gobbler Grind t-shirt, some flyers to hand out, and another buff! It’s so funny actually, I’ve been saying I needed a buff for a while but I never ended up getting myself one. But now I’ve gotten two for “free”. One at the Desert Rats 10k earlier this month and now this one that came with my Gobbler Grind stuff! Pretty sweet! Also just a weird coincidence that I’ve been talking about wanting one and now I’ve got two. πŸ˜‚

Now that I’ve got some flyers I need to figure out what to do with them! In all transparency, if I get 5 people to register for this race using my code (GG19AD) I get a free entry! I’ve already got one person to use it so only 4 more to go! Anyone wanna help a girl out? πŸ˜‰ It’s a super fun race!! Plus I’m really hoping to meet some of my online friends there! How super cool would that be?!? 😁

But anyway, for now I’m going to give a couple to my husband to hang up at his work. Apparently a bunch of people there are runners so that’s probably a good place to start! I’m also thinking my local grocery store? I live in a super small town so basically everyone who lives here shops there, even if it’s just occasionally. And I know there are some runners around here. I mean, I see them while I’m out running! πŸ˜„

I really do love this race though. That was the whole reason I even applied to be an ambassador for it. So far it’s probably one of the best races I’ve ever done! So even if I can’t get 4 more people to register I’m still going to do it! I still can’t get over how awesome the aid station volunteers were last year. They were literally THE BEST! So I’m very excited to be doing this half marathon again this year! And with my dad, too! 😁

Anyway, at around 12:30 pm a very nice FedEx driver dropped off my Honey Stinger order! Yay!! A couple of days ago I did some restocking of my running fuel! Of course that meant Honey Stinger waffles!! They are my go-to running fuel. They also make good snacks. πŸ˜‰ So I got a box of my favorite flavor; chocolate. I’ve also been enjoying the lemon flavored waffles as well, so I got a box of those too. Plus a box of cracker n’ nut butter bars because yum!! πŸ˜‹ And a “variety pack” which is just a box of different flavors of waffles, a few chews, bars, and cracker n’ nut butter bars.

Now I’ll be set on that front for a while. 😁 Probably for at least most of the summer. Training for Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two officially starts in a few months and I definitely want to be ready for that! πŸ˜„

And speaking of that, guess who I’ve officially convinced to take on this challenge with me?!?!

Hahaha yup! It’s official! My dad is signed up for both races and is going to tackle them with me! Yay!! We have lots of fun racing together! Actually, at this point everything single race I’m doing this year I’ll be doing with him. That is unless I end up registering for another race, but right now that’s kinda unlikely. It’s all good though! Two half marathons, one 10k, and one 5k is more than I’ve done in other years.πŸ˜„

Alrighty! That’s all for today! Just an exciting mail day. 😊

Happy Wednesday!

Cherry Bombs, Steel Panther, And Stone Sour Live at the Midland in Kansas City, 9/26/2017

Oh man, this show! This show was….something.Β And I mean that in a really really good way!

So last week I got an email from the app I used to by Green Day tickets on earlier this year, about bands that were going to be playing in the area. I saw that Stone Sour was going to be playing at The Midland in Kansas City, so I mentioned it to Luke, since Stone Sour is his favorite band and because it’s been a while since they’ve been here, and the last time they were we had a chance to go, but Luke passed up on it! But after I told him he said he wasn’t sure if he wanted to go, because live shows just don’t seem all that exciting to him.

I guess he got curious about it though, because the next day he looked up ticket prices, saw that Steel Panther (a band that we’ve both been very into lately) was opening for them, and that sold him on going. Well, that and the fact that he figured out that he could get pretty sweet seats for pretty cheap! πŸ˜‰ So long story short, that’s how we ended up going to this show. πŸ™‚

So yesterday was the day of the show! Yay! The nice thing about finding out about this show a week beforehand was that we didn’t have to wait very long for it haha.

After Luke got off of work yesterday he drove home, changed and got me, we stopped at Sonic for dinner, and then drove 40 minutes to Kansas City. And I just need to say, the roads in KC are super weird and don’t make a lot of sense. Luke and I also think downtown Saint Louis is much more exciting than downtown KC, but I think we might be a little bit biased, considering we’re originally from the STL area πŸ˜‰

Anyway, so we got into KC and had to drive around for a little bit to find a parking garage. Funnily enough, we accidentally ended up in the same garage that we parked in for the Green Day concert. It was a little bit farther away from the venue we were going to that night than a few other garages, but it was also less crowded. So we parked, walked two blocks to The Midland, and got in line at around 5:50 pm which was 10 minutes before the doors were supposed to open, and then we waited. 6:00 pm rolled around, the line was getting pretty long, and the doors sill weren’t open. 5 minutes went by and still nothing. And then 10. By then people were getting a little bit antsy. But finally they opened the doors 15 minutes late and everyone started filing in.

Luke and I had seat tickets in the balcony, so we didn’t have to rush in to get a good spot in the pit which was nice. Haha we’re not exactly pit people. It can get a little bit rowdy in there and by the end of the night we were really glad that we weren’t involved with all of that. Anyway, we went up to the balcony, bought some drinks, found our seats, and settled in to wait for the show to start.

The Cherry Bombs were the first act of the show and neither Luke or I had ever heard of them before. We both just kind of assumed that they were just some new band or something. But since we had some time to kill I looked them up and we were very wrong. Turns out they’re a group of professional dancers,Β aerialists, fire artists, hoopers, pole dancers, and singers. And boy were they awesome! Haha that was definitely an interesting was to start off a show! I didn’t get any photos of them, unfortunately.

After Cherry Bombs performance Steel Panther came on stage to a crowed who was very ready to rock! If you don’t know who Steel Panther is, they’re a comedic band that basically makes fun of everything 80’s glam rock, metal, and pretty much anyone who takes themselves too seriously. Oh and they’re actually really fucking good. Like, aside from being hilarious, they can actually sing and play their instruments and its great! Luke and I were super stoked to see them play live, because we’ve been watching themΒ a lotΒ on YouTube lately, so it was pretty awesome to actually experience them for ourselves!

So for the most part it seems like opening bands only get to play a half an hour-ish set before the main act comes out, but they got to play for an hour and it was sooo much fun! Haha so it turns out Cory Taylor (the lead singer of Stone Sour) is a huge Steel Panther fan and has been supporting them since their first album. So that’s probably why they got a little more time, but everyone there was very into it. πŸ™‚ And I mean, how could you not be? They have some very lewd/sexual/drug filled lyrics, they told some really funny stories, and pulled a bunch of girls up on stage and several of them flashed the crowd. Like I said, it was a lot of fun. πŸ™‚

Luke and I decided that the place really filled during and right after Steel Panther’s set. I’ve never really understood why so many people don’t show up for the opening band, but the people who did last night missed out on a great time! But anyway,Β by the time Stone Sour came out the pit was packed and the balcony where we were sitting was pretty full as well. Honestly I was surprised that the show didn’t sell out, this was a pretty small venue, and small shows usually sell out really fast, but apparently Stone Sour isn’t as big of a band as I thought they were. Apparently Slipknot (Cory Taylor’s other band) is much more well known than Stone Sour is and I was just unaware of that until Luke told me last night. Haha but in my defense, this isn’t exactly the type of music I’m really into or follow, so I really don’t know much about it. πŸ˜‰

img_6701

Anyway, once most of the band made their way out onto stage the crowed went wild, Corey Taylor ran out last, but once he did, everyone lost their damn minds haha. But I mean, he is a very impressive singer, song writer, and front man, so I guess it was no surprise that people were excited to see him!

img_6710

So like I said, this isn’t the type of music or a band that I really pay a lot of attention to, so I’m not gonna go into a detailed song-by-song thing like I did for Green Day. Mostly because I didn’t know all of the songs hahaha. And there were a few songs that I knew, but didn’t know the names of. πŸ˜‰ It’s all good though. It was still a great time! Stone Sour is great live! They were energetic, had a good stage presence, and looked like they were having a great time too! Corey Taylor shot a confetti canon several times, threw lots of water bottles into the crowd, almost got into the pit at one point (his security guard didn’t look too happy about that), and encouraged people to sing along, not take themselves too seriously, and kinda egged the pit on when it started getting really rowdy.

img_6712

And oh boy did the pit get rowdy! It took them a little bit to get warmed up, but eventually they were all getting very much into it. It was very interesting to actually see people pushing and shoving each other (and I’m pretty sure they’re were some punches thrown to), but then pick each other up when they fell down. Haha and I mean, I have been in a semi rowdy pit before, but I’ve never got to witness it from above.

Anyway, they played a few older songs, and some songs that Cory Taylor said they hadn’t played in a long time. But like I said, I wouldn’t really know haha. But Luke seemed pretty impressed with their set list and was surprised about a few of the songs they played. πŸ™‚ So they ended up playing for a little over 2 hours I think? So this was a super long show! But we still managed to get out of the venue, to the parking garage, in the car, and all the way home in a pretty decent amount of time. It was about 11:45 pm by the time we got home. Not bad! On the way home Luke said that he was physically and emotionally exhausted, and went on about how awesome it was that he got to see Corey Taylor in person, be in the same room as his favorite band, and how close we actually were to them. So yeah, now he understands how I felt about seeing Green Day. πŸ˜‰

img_6717

Haha so we came home to some pretty pissed off dogs and cats. They get fed at 8 pm on the dot every night, but every once in a while whenever we do things like this, we just wait to do that until we get home and they hate it. Oh well, they got over it. πŸ˜‰ And yeah, that was our night last night. It was great!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

And that’s all I’ve got for today, so happy hump day everyone!
