Happy Marathon Monday!!

Wow! Just wow! Congratulations toΒ Desiree Linden for being the first American woman to win the Boston Marathon in 33 years!! And in pretty intense weather too! Absolutely incredible!! Her win today just proves that YEARS of showing up and doing the work pays off! I’m seriously so happy for her and have all of the feels right now. πŸ™‚

I’ve been keeping up with Boston Marathon stuff all day, and all of the incredible athletes who ran today in that crazy weather definitely inspired me during my run today! The weather conditions here in Kansas haven’t been too bad today. Pretty cold for mid-April, but sunny and not too bad. I’m still sick though. I’m pretty sure I’m on the upswing of this illness but I’m still feeling kinda miserable. I didn’t run very much last week because of this darn illness, but now I’m feeling just well enough to know that some easy running would probably do me good.

So with all of the Marathon Monday feels fresh in my mind, I set out to do an easy 3 miles at around 12:30 this afternoon. It was not a fun run. I spent a lot of time stopping so I could couch up phlegm and blow my nose. Exciting, right? πŸ˜‰ But I set out to do 3 miles and I accomplished that goal! I was hoping I’d feel better after running, but I pretty much feel the same. Ugh. I’m so tired of being sick. But at the very least I’m not so sick that I can’t run, so there’s that.

Another good thing to note; even though we’ve been having some weirdly cold weather in Kansas my peach tree (in the photo above) doesn’t seem like it’s doing too bad. I’m really hoping to get some peaches off of it this year! Every year it grow tiny peaches but then it drops them and starts growing more… Honestly this winter what we need to do is prune it so it stops doing that. But for now I’m just hoping it’ll actually produce some fruit!

Anyway, I suppose that’s all for today. I just wanted to share how incredible I though Des Linden was this morning and complain a little bit more about being sick. πŸ˜‰

I hope you have a great week!

Well Dammit…

I guess all of the travel, super late nights, alcohol, not so great food (I mean it was delicious! But definitely not nutritious in any way, shape, or form haha.), and general Christmas craziness has finally caught up to me. I woke up tired, congested, and with a sore throat. Fun times…

So it’s looking like my running days in 2017 are over. Haha at the very least I wanted to do something that almost resembled a long run (6-7 ish miles?) and maybe even a few easy miles on New Year’s Eve, but that’s not gonna happen. Especially with how cold it is. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the cold and have actually run in colder/more crazy conditions (-10 degrees with at least 8 inches of snow on the ground. That was a super fun day. πŸ™‚ ). But it’s probably not a great idea to attempt to run when it feels like -4 outside and you’re obviously coming down with something.

I guess today would be a great day to try out the “flu-fighter chicken and rice stew” recipe from Run Fast Eat Slow, but I don’t have all of the necessary ingredients and I don’t think getting out in this cold and driving to the store in a car that has no heat is a good idea anyway haha. I have a feeling that that wouldn’t help my current situation at all, and I don’t think the soup would is worth that. πŸ˜‰ It does sound really really good though…

Anyways, I guess I’m going to spend the day curled up on the couch with my dogs (two of whom would rather be outside all day, but it’s waaaay too cold for that), Netflix and lots of tea. But at this point it’s looking like I’m going to be ringing in the new year sick. Sadface…

Poor Dean would rather spend the day guarding the backyard from squirrels, birds, the evil mail lady (she’s actually really nice. My dogs are just assholes), and barking at his friend Cujo the German Shepard, who’s backyard is right behind mine. While Finn attempts to herd him and pretty much anything that moves. But it’s too cold for that today.Β

I hope everyone is well, has a good Saturday, and a safe and fun New Year’s eve!!

Sidelined By An Illness

It’s not often that I get taken out of the game by a cold. Usually I’m able to run through the sniffling, sneezing, and coughing. Hell, sometimes a few easy miles even helps clear out my sinuses and makes me feel a little bit better! Not this time around though. I’m pretty sure this has been the worst cold that I’ve ever had in my entire life! It’s seriously been really awful!

I guess this whole ordeal started last Thursday, although at that point I didn’t realize that I was getting sick. I was feeling pretty tired and rundown but I didn’t really think much of it, especially since I got a pretty solid workout in that day. Honestly I just thought PMS had just come a few days early, which isn’t really unheard of, so I wasn’t worried about it. The next day I realized that whatever cold that Luke had gotten a few days before, and that’s been making it’s round all over this part of Kansas, had finally caught up with me. At that point I didn’t feel too terrible, but my throat was really dry and hurt really bad. I was actually kind of worried that I was coming down with strep because I has some weird yellowish bumps in the back of my throat, but I never got a fever and after a pint of chocolate Halo Top ice cream it started to feel much better. By then I was hoping that maybe I was in the clear and that this cold wasn’t going to be too bad. Oh how wrong I was…

So that was on Friday. I didn’t run that day because I thought that maybe rest and ice cream was going to be all I needed to start feeling better, but like I said, that was not the case. I woke up feeling like death on Saturday. This wasn’t just the normal stuffy nose, clogged sinuses, sneezing, feeling under the weather cold. This was a cold from hell.

I spend all of Saturday laying on the couch, reading, and not wanting to eat or drink anything. I had to though. My body was producing so much snot that I felt like I was constantly swallowing it and that was making me feel sick to my stomach. Eating helped little bit thought, even though at that point I felt like food was the most unappealing thing ever. And obviously you want to stay hydrated while you’re sick, and honestly I wasn’t doing that great of a job, but I tried. When I went to bed that night I was praying that I would feel a little bit better when I woke up because I was absolutely miserable, but that did not happen.

Yesterday was by far the worst day yet. I had a terrible sinus headache, my nose was leaking non stop (I went through more than half of a double roll of toilet paper), my chest was congested so I couldn’t stop coughing, my throat was raw and sore since I couldn’t stop coughing, my whole body ached, and I kept cycling between being really hot and really cold (even though I still didn’t have a fever). There was absolutely no way I was going to be able to run yesterday, even if I wanted to. Even sitting up for prolonged periods of time wore me out, and walking around or doing anything was pretty much out of the question. Seriously, this had been the worst cold I’ve ever had. And to top it all off, I ended up losing my voice last night and I could still barely talk this morning.

But it would appear that I’m finally on the upswing!!! I woke up feeling a little bit better today. My chest is still really congested though, so I’m still doing a lot of coughing, but I was able to run an easy mile! And it wasn’t even as slow as I thought it was going to be haha. I did have to walk up a hill because all of this gunk in my chest/nose made it a little bit difficult to breathe, but it was still a total win! Plus it helped clear out my nose and chest a little so I’m very happy about that! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

So I’m very happy that I’m feeling a little bit better and was able to run today. I’m still planning on doing a lot of resting today and am probably going to try to nap after I make lunch, but I think I can manage a little bit of light housework after that. Whenever I’m out of commission things get really dirty around here hahaha.

Anyway, I hope you had a great weekend, mine kinda sucked but I’m just glad that I’m finally getting over the cold from hell.

Happy Monday!
