Happy Global Running Day!

So this is actually just a short little thing I shared on Instagram for Global Running Day, but I wanted to share it here too. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»

I don’t have the most exciting or inspiring running story. I started late in 2013 mostly as a way to continue losing weight and it just kinda stuck.

I’m certainly not a great runner. Most of my runs are done at a turtle’s pace with some walking thrown in. Sometimes a lot of walking.πŸ’πŸ˜‚

Running usually doesn’t take me to interesting places with incredible views (this photo from my very first trail race in Colorado is one of the few exceptionsπŸ˜‰). Most of my running happens right out my front door, around my small town.

To me, none of that is really important though. Sure, I’d love to be able to run faster, experience more exciting places, and who doesn’t want to be a more inspiring person? But what really matters is the act of running itself. It helps keep me relatively healthy and fit, sure. But it’s so much more than that.

It’s waking up early and watching the sun rise. It’s trying to catch snowflakes on your tongue without falling flat on your face. It’s trying to outrun a summer thunderstorm. Watching the leaves change in the fall. Knowing where all of the neighborhood dogs and cats live. It’s knowing most of the people within a 3 mile radius of your house by sight if not by name, and knowing the general ongoings in your neighborhood.

It’s the feeling of camaraderie when you see another runner on your usual route. It’s the feeling of crossing a finish line that you worked so hard to get to. It’s early mornings and oatmeal, blisters and black toenails, sweat and determination, and having absolutely no fear of port-o-potties. πŸ˜‰

So yeah, I’m not the best, fastest, or most inspiring runner. But running has changed who I am in a fundamental way and I couldn’t be any happier about that. I’ll take my mediocre running self over my non-running self any day!

Weekly Recap: May 13th-19th, 2019

My first weekly recap in… I don’t even remember. Several weeks? Hahaha I’ve had an interesting/not very exciting couple of weeks.

This week definitely wasn’t what I wanted, running-wise, but it was still a really good week! I got a bunch of stuff not running related done and ended up having quite a bit of fun! πŸ˜„

Monday:

  • 3 miles
  • 15 minutes Pilates
  • 25 minutes yoga

Partly cloudy days like on Monday are some of my favorites! Those big puffy clouds just make the sky so pretty! 🌀😊

Anyway, I got some shit DONE on Monday! My run wasn’t super great, but after being sick most of last week and hardly running, it felt good to get out there! Followed by a little bit of Pilates and then some yoga later that evening. 😁

Tuesday:

  • 2 miles
  • 20 minutes stretching/foam rolling

Just 2 easy miles for Tuesday. I’m just trying to get back into the swing of things after being sick. But, I’m willing to put in the work to get there. It’s probably not gonna be fun though. πŸ˜‚

Wednesday:

  • 3.5 miles

It was hot, humid, and gross out on Wednesday… I ended up cutting my run a little short because I just wasn’t feeling it. It’s getting to be that time of year though. Running becomes a lot less fun for me once the weather gets warmer.

Thursday:

  • 4 miles
  • Yard work
  • 15 minutes of stretching

Whew! Thursday was a day! I woke up earlier (which is going to have to start happening more and more now that it’s starting to warm up) got in a slow 4 mile run, then spent around 3 hours in my yard weed eating, trimming bushes, cleaning up the fence lines, weeding the landscaping and garden, and then finally cleaning out a few animal cages. It was a lot of work and I was exhausted! πŸ˜‚ I like to think it was a good strength training session though! πŸ˜‰

Friday:

  • 18 holes of golf

Recently Luke has decided to take up golfing. Originally his brother was going with him, but it’s hard for his brother to find someone to watch his kids and Luke was starting to feel bad that I had to watch them all of the time (especially since I’m ALWAYS babysitting my next door neighbor’s kid), so the last two times Luke has gone golfing I’ve gone with him! And surprisingly enough, I’m not as terrible as I thought I’d be! πŸ˜‚

This time definitely went better than the first though. But I am definitely starting to get the hang of some things! πŸŒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ Golf is hard though. There’s a lot going on with it, but it’s definitely fun trying to learn a new sport!

Saturday:

  • 4 miles
  • Bowling

Hahaha oh man, I had 3 days in a row that were kinda packed with all sorts of stuff!

So on Saturday Luke’s dad, step mom, and youngest brother came to Kansas from Illinois just for a fun little trip. I actually ended up cutting my run 4 miles short because I had no idea what they’re plans were and if they were going to show up at our house at any point, so I had a bunch of cleaning I had to get done.

They actually never came to our house though, so really I could have finished 8 miles. Oh well, sometimes you just gotta roll with whatever could potentially be happening in your life. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ At least I got yo go out and run. 😊

Then that evening we all went out to eat at a barbecue restaurant (not my favorite, but it was pretty good!) and then we went bowling! Luke’s youngest brother had never bowled before, but he ended up having a ton of fun and didn’t want to leave. πŸ˜‚ It was a really good time though. About our 4th game Luke and I were bowling better than we ever have before! I ended up with 122 points, which is a lot for me.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ After that though everyone but Luke’s brother was getting tired. We played another game that didn’t go as well and then Luke’s brother played 5 frames for all of us (I really don’t know how he managed that! It was impressive!) and then we finally left. Luke and I went home, and his dad, brother, and step mom went back to their hotel.

Sunday:

  • More golf!

Hahaha I didn’t do a full 18 holes this time. Truth be told, I’m TIRED! But I did end up playing 11 or 12 holes. Luke finished 18 and I was his official ball spotter (I have better eyes than he does so I find them faster πŸ˜‰) and club holder. It was a good time. 😊

So this week wasn’t exactly what I wanted as far as running goes, but I still ended up doing quite a bit!! πŸ˜„

Now next week is going to be an interesting one as well. On a Thursday or Friday (we still haven’t decided yet) Luke and I are going to be headed to Minnesota to visit his mom and to celebrate one of his brothers graduating high school! I’m sure that will be lots of fun! But I’m not entirely sure how much running I’ll be able to get done. We shall see.πŸ˜‰

Happy Mail Day To Me!!

I’ve been watching this documentary series thing about the 90’s on Netflix and it’s been super entertaining/slightly nostalgia (I was born in ’91 so I only really remember the later 90’s). I’ve really been enjoying it aside from the fact that they barely even included Green Day their music episode. Dookie was literally one of the biggest albums of the 90’s. Especially coming out the year Kurt Cobain does. But whatever…I guess they almost made up for it by the amount of time they spent on Nirvana. Almost. And of course they ended the episode with Good Riddance playing in the background. ClichΓ©, but my little fan-girl heart was still happy to hear it. πŸ˜‚

Hi my name is Ashley and I’m the world’s biggest Green Day fan. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

Oh man, anyway. This series has done exactly what it was probably meant to do, I suppose. It’s gotten me thinking of just how far we’ve come (and how far we haven’t come) as the human race. Like, 30 years ago the internet was barely even a thing but now we have access to it 24/7 via these relatively tiny devices that we carry with us in our pockets. Really it’s kinda mind blowing when you think of it!

At this point we can purchase basically anything we could possibly dream of and have it delivered to our front doors in just a few days. And once it is delivered we snap a photo with the small devices that give us access to the internet at all times and post about it on our social media accounts. And thus, the whole “mail day” social media thing began. Pretty crazy, right?! πŸ˜‚

So I revived two packages today! The first one came via the good ol’ USPS this morning and I wasn’t exactly expecting it. That’s always a good feeling, right?! 😁 The second was delivered via FedEx (dude, don’t even get me started on all of the delivery options we have today! And how much that’s grown, especially with Amazon and drones and people renting out vans just to deliver stuff. Holy moly!!πŸ˜‚). That one I was expecting, tracking, and highly anticipating! πŸ˜‰

So, our regular mail actually comes super duper early in the morning. Around 8-9 am, which has always kinda blown my mind. Back when I lived in Illinois it always came around 3-4 pm. But I guess that’s the difference between living in town, almost across the street from the post office and on a farm in the middle of nowhere. πŸ˜‚ Anyway, today I got the mail as usual, whatever. But there was a package in there addressed to me from a local running store! Yay!! I wasn’t really expecting it (even though I was promised this stuff) but I knew exactly what it was and was pretty stoked about it!

My ambassador stuff from the Gobbler Grind Half finally came!! Hahaha back in February I was accepted as an ambassador for the Gobbler Grind and was promised some apparel and flyers basically in exchange for free advertising (which really is all any ambassador program is πŸ˜‰). They said “a few weeks” but I guess that turned into “a few months”. I’m not complaining or anything though. I’ve never organized a race so I have no idea what all goes into that, but I’m sure the race director and everyone is is pretty busy all year. Planning this race and more likely than not a few others. Really all that waiting did was turn it into a pleasant surprise because I had almost forgotten about it. πŸ˜‚

But anyway, now I’ve got a sweet Gobbler Grind t-shirt, some flyers to hand out, and another buff! It’s so funny actually, I’ve been saying I needed a buff for a while but I never ended up getting myself one. But now I’ve gotten two for “free”. One at the Desert Rats 10k earlier this month and now this one that came with my Gobbler Grind stuff! Pretty sweet! Also just a weird coincidence that I’ve been talking about wanting one and now I’ve got two. πŸ˜‚

Now that I’ve got some flyers I need to figure out what to do with them! In all transparency, if I get 5 people to register for this race using my code (GG19AD) I get a free entry! I’ve already got one person to use it so only 4 more to go! Anyone wanna help a girl out? πŸ˜‰ It’s a super fun race!! Plus I’m really hoping to meet some of my online friends there! How super cool would that be?!? 😁

But anyway, for now I’m going to give a couple to my husband to hang up at his work. Apparently a bunch of people there are runners so that’s probably a good place to start! I’m also thinking my local grocery store? I live in a super small town so basically everyone who lives here shops there, even if it’s just occasionally. And I know there are some runners around here. I mean, I see them while I’m out running! πŸ˜„

I really do love this race though. That was the whole reason I even applied to be an ambassador for it. So far it’s probably one of the best races I’ve ever done! So even if I can’t get 4 more people to register I’m still going to do it! I still can’t get over how awesome the aid station volunteers were last year. They were literally THE BEST! So I’m very excited to be doing this half marathon again this year! And with my dad, too! 😁

Anyway, at around 12:30 pm a very nice FedEx driver dropped off my Honey Stinger order! Yay!! A couple of days ago I did some restocking of my running fuel! Of course that meant Honey Stinger waffles!! They are my go-to running fuel. They also make good snacks. πŸ˜‰ So I got a box of my favorite flavor; chocolate. I’ve also been enjoying the lemon flavored waffles as well, so I got a box of those too. Plus a box of cracker n’ nut butter bars because yum!! πŸ˜‹ And a “variety pack” which is just a box of different flavors of waffles, a few chews, bars, and cracker n’ nut butter bars.

Now I’ll be set on that front for a while. 😁 Probably for at least most of the summer. Training for Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two officially starts in a few months and I definitely want to be ready for that! πŸ˜„

And speaking of that, guess who I’ve officially convinced to take on this challenge with me?!?!

Hahaha yup! It’s official! My dad is signed up for both races and is going to tackle them with me! Yay!! We have lots of fun racing together! Actually, at this point everything single race I’m doing this year I’ll be doing with him. That is unless I end up registering for another race, but right now that’s kinda unlikely. It’s all good though! Two half marathons, one 10k, and one 5k is more than I’ve done in other years.πŸ˜„

Upcoming Adventures

Things have been kinda quite around here lately! Aside from some chicken drama we haven’t really had much going on since Christmas time. That’s going to change here very shortly though! This spring is going to be a busy one and I’m pretty excited about sone of the things that are going to go down and the adventures that are going to be had!

First on my list is my upcoming trip to Colorado! That’s this week actually!

So currently, the plan is my brother is driving here from Illinois to pick me up and bring me to Colorado with him (Luke and I only have one vehicle and obviously he’ll need that to go to and from work, so this was the option that worked best for everyone). I’m not sure what my dad has planned for the week, but on Saturday we’re going to be driving from Longmont to Fruita (about a 5 hour drive) and then do some hiking there. Then we’re going to stay at a motel there and then on Sunday is the Desert Rats 10k trail race that we’re doing together. After that my dad and I will head back to Kansas where obviously I live and he might stay the night, and then he needs to to take care of some stuff in Illinois so that kinda works out well for him.

We’re planning on squeezing in as much fun as possible in the short amount of time I’m there and I’m sure we will! I’m very much looking forward to spending some more time in Colorado. 😊

Next on the agenda is the Running With The Cows 5k! I’ve done this race twice now and I absolutely love it! One day I’ll end up doing the half marathon. Once I get over my fear of racing in warm weather. πŸ˜‚

So this is coming up on May 11th and my dad is doing this one with me as well!

I’m not sure when he plans on coming here from Colorado for that, but no matter when he does I’m sure we’ll end up having lots of fun! 😊

Running With The Cows 5k, 2018

Later in May one of my brother-in-laws graduates from high school so Luke and I will be driving to Minnesota for that! We’ve been going on vacations in the summer with Luke’s mom’s side of the family so we actually haven’t even been up to Minnesota since 2015! Crazy stuff!!

So aside from celebrating the new high school grad I’m not sure what all is going down while we’re there but I’m sure it will involve some fun stuff! Last time we were there we went to Itasca State Park. That was super cool! Especially for a group of people who all used to (and a couple still do) live near the Mississippi in Illinois!

Unfortunately no running events will be taking place while we’re in Minnesota. Hahahaha that would have been fun though! Maybe I’ll look up some races and see if I can swing one while we’re there. πŸ˜‰ honestly though there probably won’t be time for that.

Alrighty, so those are the big ones coming up soon! Of course we’ve got all sorts of smaller adventures along the way. Like starting our garden for instance. Now that spring is finally here we’ll be getting that started soon! I’m very excited about that. I wanna grow ALL OF THE THINGS! πŸŒ±πŸ…πŸ₯¬πŸ“πŸ₯¦πŸ‘πŸŽƒ

And I’m sure at some point we’ll be making our way back to Illinois again. Another of my brother-in-laws girlfriend just had their baby on March 19th. That’s kind of a whole thing, but I’m sure Luke’s dad will convince him to come meet her before too long. I mean, she is our first…”official” (for lack of a better term.) niece.

Hahaha Luke’s whole side of the family is a little bit confusing and I’m not about to get into all of that here. But we do already have a couple of nephews and a niece on his mom’s side. They just aren’t directly related to Luke. But this new baby is like for reals related to him. So “official” sure. But not our first niece or nephew or relative of that sort. πŸ˜‚

Anyway, right now that covers the majority of the races I’m doing this year. For now. There’s always the possibility that more might be added to the schedule though. πŸ˜‰

But for now there are only two other races on tap for 2019; the Longview Half and the Gobbler Grind Half, which I’ll be doing with my dad again. Jeez I’m beginning to think he likes this whole racing thing! 😁 I’m currently trying to convince him to do Longview with me too, but that one is the day before the Gobbler Grind. Yeah, I’m trying that again. πŸ˜‚ But anyway, he’ll be coming back to Kansas again for that. We had an absolute blast running it last year!

So, will I be seeing any of you guys there on November 10th?!?

This is such a fun race held in Overland Park Kansas! I can’t say that the whole course is super pretty because it is in a pretty big city and I ain’t a about that life, but a lot of the course is on a super pretty paved trail that follows a nice little creek. I actually used to run on parts of the course all of the time back when Luke and I lived in an apartment in Overland Park so I thought that was super cool!!

And don’t even get me started on the volunteers! They were the best!!

Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two

So do you remember how I tried running two half marathons in two days last year, but the most unexpected conclusion to that whole debacle was that I didn’t finish the first half marathon?

Yeah, so I’m gonna go for it again this year. πŸ˜‚

Honestly I hadn’t really considered attempting Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days again until last night when my husband asked me if I’d signed up for Longview yet.

Which was a fair question! The Longview Half definitely holds a special place in my heart. It was my very first race/half marathon ever. I had completed it 3 years in a row and last year would have been the 4th year, but I ended up DNF-ing. And I’ve been at Longview almost every year the race has been held. The only one I missed was the very first one. πŸ˜‚ Until last year kinda derailed my plans, I wanted to finish this race in as many years in a row as possible. I thought it would be insanely cool if u could look back and say “yup, I’ve done the Longview Half every year for 20 years in a row”. And I suppose I still technically could as long as I include the asterisk for year number 4. I still showed up. I made it 5 miles. I just didn’t finish. πŸ˜‚

Anyway, after my husband asked about Longview I told him I wasn’t planning on doing it this year. The plan was to do the Gobbler Grind Half again with my dad. But then I remembered last year my dad had mentioned that if I would have told him earlier, that he would have registered for both half marathons as well. So I texted him about it last night. I figure April is a pretty decent heads up for something in November. πŸ˜‰

Hahaha I haven’t gotten an actual answer from him yet, but we shall see! Either way, I went ahead and registered for Longview last night. So yeah. Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two went from not even being a though, to something that is actually happening all within the span of a few hours last night. πŸ˜‚

I’m actually pretty excited about attempting this goal again! And I’m still currently too far out from it to be nervous about it. I’m currently too busy being nervous about my upcoming trail race in Colorado (which is next Sunday! 😱) to be worried about two half marathons in November. πŸ˜‚

Anyway, while all of that fun was going on last night Luke and I were actually on our way to Scheels to get me a new pair of running shoes! My pair of Nike frees I got last summer are still holding up pretty well (although they are starting to get a bit worn down in the soles. Not too bad though.), but my Nike Pegasus should have been replaced a looong while ago. Or at the very least a sane person would have stopped running in them a long while ago. πŸ˜‚

Earlier this winter as I was putting them on for a run one day and I thought to myself “Wow! These shoes feel ridiculously comfortable”. So I decided to inspect the one that wasn’t on my foot yet, and surely enough the soles right at the ball of my foot was super duper worn down. I kept running in them though and wore the sole down even more.

Here’s what they look like now. πŸ˜‚

Yeah, they’re just a little bit worn in. πŸ˜‚ I kept wearing them though because like I said, they just felt soooooo good on my feet! Probably because I’m used to wearing Nike Frees. They are definitely my favorite shoe to run in, although I do understand that it’s good to run in several different models just to work your muscles and ligaments a little bit differently. So I usually like to rotate between a pair of Frees and Pegasus. I also spend a good majority of my time in just socks or in rubber boots (and if you’ve ever worn rubber boots, you know that the offer absolutely NO support. πŸ˜‚). So that’s probably why I’ve been able to continue running pain/injury free in a pair of ridiculously worn out shoes.

Anyway, they got replaced last night! Scheels didn’t have any Frees in my size (they had the older model on clearance but the new model wasn’t in stock yet). And there were no Pegasus to be found (I’m assuming Nike is withholding them again? It’s super annoying that they constantly do this, but I guess I can understand the business model behind it), so I ended up with a pair of Winflo 5. I haven’t actually looked much into them, but I have heard they are pretty similar to the Pegasus and they felt really good when I tried them on, so I figured I’d give them a shot! Plus they were black on black on black like my current pair of Frees and that pretty much won me over. I’m very much loving the blacked out shoe trend that seems to be happening at the moment. πŸ–€

So yeah, new shoes and a new race registration! Fun stuff!! 😁 And there’s even more fun stuff on the way! Yay! But I’ll be taking about all of that later. So that’s all for now!

Thursday Things

Hello friends!!

I’ve been kinda slacking on the whole blogging thing, I know. Honestly I’ve been super focused on growing my Instagram account lately. Instagram sure isn’t making that easy thanks to it’s weird algorithms. But I have been making some progress on that front! 😁

Instagram is lots of fun. And if you do it right it can also become a community of some really awesome and supportive people! I love the community I’ve become apart of on Instagram! But story telling, sharing thoughts, ideas, even just random ramblings is a lot easier to do on a blog! I mean, people come to blogs expecting to read! That’s not exactly the case on Instagram. A lot of people are there just to look at pretty pictures. Which is totally fine! It can just be a little bit limiting sometimes.

So I definitely want to get more back into blogging!! I know I’m not the best writer out there or anything, but lately I’ve been writing down these little…well I’m bot sure what to call them exactly. Poems? I don’t think that’s right… Anyway, I’ve shared a few of them on Instagram and I’ve gotten some very positive feedback from them and that’s just made me want to start writing and sharing more again on my blog! 😊

So I figured I’d start easy and go for a “Thursday Things” post. I like to ramble and my “Thursday Things” posts are usually a pretty good place for me to do that! 😊

So let’s get right into it!

Team ROAD iD!

Obviously I’ve already talked about being an ambassador for ROAD iD his year (which you can read about here. πŸ˜‰). I’m super duper excited to be working with a brand that I love and believe in the way I do ROAD iD. I’ve been wearing mine since 2015 and at this point I rarely ever take it off.

I was very excited about that hahaha. Okey dokey, enough about that! Let’s talk about running!

Last week I had an AMAZING week of running! It was soooo good! Like, most of my runs felt great and I had so much fun! It’s been a while since I’ve had a whole week like that. where most of it just felt fun and carefree even though I was putting in some hard work.

Unfortunately all of that fun came to an end this week…

I almost did it. I almost made it through cold and flu season without getting sick. Almost. On Monday I felt a little bit tired and my body was kinda heavy feeling, but I thought that maybe I was just tired from the work I’d put in last week. I did a super slow 3 mile slog on the treadmill (because it felt like -15 and I didn’t feel like dealing with that. πŸ˜‚), in hopes that I would feel better afterwards, but nope.

I woke up on Tuesday and my whole body felt sore. At that point I was at a loss as to why. So I skipped my run and spent an hour on my stationary bike instead and then followed that up with about 30 minutes of yoga. I was hoping that would help with the soreness, but honestly I felt worse afterwards than I did before, which I thought was weird.

But then I woke up actually feeling sick yesterday and it all kinda made sense after that. πŸ˜‚ So yeah, that sucks, but at least I know why I’ve felt off all week. I took a rest day yesterday and woke up feeling a little bit better today, but not 100%, so I took today off as well. I was doing so well and being super consistent with my running since the beginning of this year, so it’s kind of a bummer to have to stop that for now, but I also know that it’s definitely for the best and the thing I need most right now is rest.

But if I was gonna get sick now wasn’t the worst time to do it. πŸ˜‚ My first race of the year, a trail 10k in Colorado, is next month and I obviously want to be healthy for that!!

I’m doing that one with my dad who hasn’t really been able to train due to work, and since it’s in Colorado near the mountains the elevation change is gonna kick my ass. It always does. So it’s going to be a tough day for us and we aren’t exactly going to be “racing”. Especially since I’ve done exactly 0 trail runs in preparation for this.πŸ˜‚ Honestly I’m hoping to rely on the skills I’ve built in the first 20 years of my life tracking around the woods and family farm. So at the very least I’m not a complete stranger to a little bit of off road terrain! Hahaha but we’ll see how that actually goes!

Honestly while it’s probably going to be slow and painful, it should still be a lot of fun! My dad and I have had lots of fun during the two other races we’ve done together so far, so I don’t think this one will be any different. 😊

Then in May my dad is coming to Kansas to do Running With The Cows 5k (one of my all time favorite races!) with me, and he’ll be doing the Gobbler Grind Half with me again in November! 😊 So far that’s all of the racing I’ll be doing this year. Although I would like to register for another 5k or two later this year, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make that happen yet. Mostly I want to because I’ve got done time goals I’m aiming for and I won’t be able to go after then running with my dad. Which is totally fine! I’d much rather get to spend more time with him that hit a PR. But I’d still like to end up with a shiny new PR this year. πŸ˜‚

Honestly I can do a fast 5k anytime I want on my usual running routes. That should be easy enough and I’m not the kind of person who only counts PR’s if they happen within a race. But the half marathon time I’m shooting for might be a little more difficult. Depending on how things go during the Gobbler Grind this fall, that might have to wait until next spring. Assuming I can get in another half then that is. We shall see.

But to back track a little bit, I’m currently nursing a cold and haven’t run in 3 days. πŸ˜‚ But really 3 days off isn’t too bad. I’ll be able to jump back into the swing of things pretty easily if that’s all I end up missing. Which I’m thinking it will be. I’m gonna test out my legs and lungs tomorrow with 2 or 3 easy miles just to see how I feel and then go from there!

But I think that’s enough for today!

Team ROAD iD

You guys!!!!! I’m super duper excited to finally be able to announce that I get to be apart of ROAD iD’s ambassador program this year!!!!!!!! πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

If you’ve been following me for a while then you might already know how much I love my ROAD iD. I wear it all of the time! When I’m running, walking my dogs, or doing anything or going anywhere, really.!I seriously consider it to be one of my most important pieces of running gear. I even wrote a blog post about what ROAD iD is and why I wear it a few years ago. So I’ve been pretty loyal to this brand ever since I just kind of stumbled upon it back in 2015.

Lol as I was looking for photos for this post I realized that my teal ROAD iD band had seen 3 different Garmins before I finally broke it. πŸ˜‚

I had honestly never heard about ROAD iD until the day before my very first race/half marathon ever back in 2015. I went to packet pick up the day before my first half feeling super excited and very nervous since I literally had no idea what to expect, about the race and whether or not I could actually cover 13.1 miles on foot sure, but also because I had never done anything like this before and had no clue what to expect throughout the whole process. So when I revived my packet I didn’t even make it to the car before I had torn into the envelope containing my first ever race bib (it’s still displayed on my bedroom wall along with all of my medals and other race bibs 😊). Number 136. I admired it for a while, just kinda soaking it all in. But of course I was curious as to what else was in that envelope. I found advertisements for other local races, a coupon for the KC Running Company Stores, and a coupon for $5 (at least I think it was $5. Hahaha it might have been more. Cut me some slack guys, it’s been a while! πŸ˜‰) off of a ROAD iD order.

At that moment I didn’t think much of it. I was too busy freaking out about my first half/race ever. But a few weeks after I finished my first race (which you can read about here, if you’d like 😁) I decided to visit this ROAD iD’s website. I did have a coupon after all. πŸ˜‰ Hahaha I hate to sound super dramatic, but my life kinda changed at that point!

I immediately fell in love with the idea; a customizable, wearable ID tag. A place where you can put super important info that you never really want to need, but would definitely be happy to have on your person just in case anything were to happen. Better than having to carry your ID with you for sure! Especially since your ID doesn’t usually include your emergency contact’s info. So I ordered one that day, along with a super spiffy 13.1 badge, since I was a new half marathoner and all. πŸ˜‰ And now about 4 years later I still have my original face-plate and that 13.1 badge. They have certainly stood the test of time! They haven’t worn down at all and they barely have a scratch on them! 😊 I did eventually manage to snap very pretty teal stretch band by taking it off and putting it back on thought. But it took me almost 4 years to do that! So I’d definitely say they are durable!!

I wear mine EVERYWHERE! At this point I rarely even take it off! In the summer I end up with some really funky tan lines because I also wear my Garmin pretty much all the time. So my left wrist always ends up with two weird pale spots on it.πŸ˜‚

For real though I think everyone should have one! At this point I’ve got my mom and dad wearing them and i’m currently working on my two sisters and my brother. πŸ˜‰

My mom has a seizure disorder which is included on her ROAD iD, along with a medical alert badge. She wears hers all of the time and it make her feel like she can actually go out in public and live a normal life despite her medical issues.

My dad does all sorts of crazy things!! He hikes, runs, and climbs mountains, when he’s not busy driving semi trucks, training drivers, or basically running a trucking company, often accompanied by his Russian Bear dog, Niko or the “All American girl”, Barbie. So it was a pretty obvious choice for him to wear a ROAD iD during his many adventures.

I think it’s such an important piece of gear for anyone who has medical issues, does any kind of adventuring, traveling, or just enjoys walking their dog around the block. It’s certainly one of those things that’s better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it. Mine has definitely given me and my family a little more peace of mind while I’m out running. I literally will not run without it.
