Happy Mail Day To Me!!

I’ve been watching this documentary series thing about the 90’s on Netflix and it’s been super entertaining/slightly nostalgia (I was born in ’91 so I only really remember the later 90’s). I’ve really been enjoying it aside from the fact that they barely even included Green Day their music episode. Dookie was literally one of the biggest albums of the 90’s. Especially coming out the year Kurt Cobain does. But whatever…I guess they almost made up for it by the amount of time they spent on Nirvana. Almost. And of course they ended the episode with Good Riddance playing in the background. Cliché, but my little fan-girl heart was still happy to hear it. 😂

Hi my name is Ashley and I’m the world’s biggest Green Day fan. 😉😂

Oh man, anyway. This series has done exactly what it was probably meant to do, I suppose. It’s gotten me thinking of just how far we’ve come (and how far we haven’t come) as the human race. Like, 30 years ago the internet was barely even a thing but now we have access to it 24/7 via these relatively tiny devices that we carry with us in our pockets. Really it’s kinda mind blowing when you think of it!

At this point we can purchase basically anything we could possibly dream of and have it delivered to our front doors in just a few days. And once it is delivered we snap a photo with the small devices that give us access to the internet at all times and post about it on our social media accounts. And thus, the whole “mail day” social media thing began. Pretty crazy, right?! 😂

So I revived two packages today! The first one came via the good ol’ USPS this morning and I wasn’t exactly expecting it. That’s always a good feeling, right?! 😁 The second was delivered via FedEx (dude, don’t even get me started on all of the delivery options we have today! And how much that’s grown, especially with Amazon and drones and people renting out vans just to deliver stuff. Holy moly!!😂). That one I was expecting, tracking, and highly anticipating! 😉

So, our regular mail actually comes super duper early in the morning. Around 8-9 am, which has always kinda blown my mind. Back when I lived in Illinois it always came around 3-4 pm. But I guess that’s the difference between living in town, almost across the street from the post office and on a farm in the middle of nowhere. 😂 Anyway, today I got the mail as usual, whatever. But there was a package in there addressed to me from a local running store! Yay!! I wasn’t really expecting it (even though I was promised this stuff) but I knew exactly what it was and was pretty stoked about it!

My ambassador stuff from the Gobbler Grind Half finally came!! Hahaha back in February I was accepted as an ambassador for the Gobbler Grind and was promised some apparel and flyers basically in exchange for free advertising (which really is all any ambassador program is 😉). They said “a few weeks” but I guess that turned into “a few months”. I’m not complaining or anything though. I’ve never organized a race so I have no idea what all goes into that, but I’m sure the race director and everyone is is pretty busy all year. Planning this race and more likely than not a few others. Really all that waiting did was turn it into a pleasant surprise because I had almost forgotten about it. 😂

But anyway, now I’ve got a sweet Gobbler Grind t-shirt, some flyers to hand out, and another buff! It’s so funny actually, I’ve been saying I needed a buff for a while but I never ended up getting myself one. But now I’ve gotten two for “free”. One at the Desert Rats 10k earlier this month and now this one that came with my Gobbler Grind stuff! Pretty sweet! Also just a weird coincidence that I’ve been talking about wanting one and now I’ve got two. 😂

Now that I’ve got some flyers I need to figure out what to do with them! In all transparency, if I get 5 people to register for this race using my code (GG19AD) I get a free entry! I’ve already got one person to use it so only 4 more to go! Anyone wanna help a girl out? 😉 It’s a super fun race!! Plus I’m really hoping to meet some of my online friends there! How super cool would that be?!? 😁

But anyway, for now I’m going to give a couple to my husband to hang up at his work. Apparently a bunch of people there are runners so that’s probably a good place to start! I’m also thinking my local grocery store? I live in a super small town so basically everyone who lives here shops there, even if it’s just occasionally. And I know there are some runners around here. I mean, I see them while I’m out running! 😄

I really do love this race though. That was the whole reason I even applied to be an ambassador for it. So far it’s probably one of the best races I’ve ever done! So even if I can’t get 4 more people to register I’m still going to do it! I still can’t get over how awesome the aid station volunteers were last year. They were literally THE BEST! So I’m very excited to be doing this half marathon again this year! And with my dad, too! 😁

Anyway, at around 12:30 pm a very nice FedEx driver dropped off my Honey Stinger order! Yay!! A couple of days ago I did some restocking of my running fuel! Of course that meant Honey Stinger waffles!! They are my go-to running fuel. They also make good snacks. 😉 So I got a box of my favorite flavor; chocolate. I’ve also been enjoying the lemon flavored waffles as well, so I got a box of those too. Plus a box of cracker n’ nut butter bars because yum!! 😋 And a “variety pack” which is just a box of different flavors of waffles, a few chews, bars, and cracker n’ nut butter bars.

Now I’ll be set on that front for a while. 😁 Probably for at least most of the summer. Training for Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two officially starts in a few months and I definitely want to be ready for that! 😄

And speaking of that, guess who I’ve officially convinced to take on this challenge with me?!?!

Hahaha yup! It’s official! My dad is signed up for both races and is going to tackle them with me! Yay!! We have lots of fun racing together! Actually, at this point everything single race I’m doing this year I’ll be doing with him. That is unless I end up registering for another race, but right now that’s kinda unlikely. It’s all good though! Two half marathons, one 10k, and one 5k is more than I’ve done in other years.😄

Alrighty! That’s all for today! Just an exciting mail day. 😊

Happy Wednesday!

10 Reasons Why I Love Honey Stinger

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile now you probably know that I’m a ambassador for Honey Stinger, and that their organic waffles are my go-to long run fuel (and also one of my all time favorite snacks 🙂 ). I try not to go on and on about it because I don’t want to sound like a walking talking ad. Especially since there are already a plethora of other people who basically use their social media accounts and blogs for the sole purpose of advertising the products that they use/companies that they are sponsored by and I don’t want to turn into one of those people. But I did apply to be a Honey Stinger ambassador for a reason, so today I wanted to talk a little bit about why I love Honey Stinger so much. 🙂

1. Their products are super tasty

I’m kind of a picky eater so I don’t like to eat things that aren’t tasty (but I mean, who does?), so if I’m going to fuel with anything while on the run it’s gotta be something I like. Mostly because I don’t usually get hungry while I’m running but obviously it’s kind of important to be taking in calories on longer runs, so my on the run fuel has gotta taste good or else I just wont eat it.

Plus their honey is super good in coffee and oatmeal. Just sayin’. 🙂

2. The waffles are easy on the stomach

I’m not someone who typically has GI issues while on the run, but every once in a while I’ll eat something before or during my run that kind of upsets my stomach. Not gonna lie, during the Longview Half Marathon last year the only thing I had for fuel during the race were Honey Stinger cherry cola energy chews, and they ended up upsetting my stomach a little bit (that was the first time they ever have though) and I really ended up regretting not bringing any waffles with me. They’ve never ever given me stomach issues before. Plus I’ve even eaten them a few times to settle my stomach and that always seems to work.

3. The chews are easy to eat and don’t stick to your teeth

Have you ever eaten an energy chew/block/bean that’s like, super duper hard to chew or that sticks in your teeth and it just ends up being the most obnoxious thing ever? Because I totally have and it’s not at all a pleasant experience. I’ve never had that problem with these energy chews though. I mean, I haven’t quite mastered the art of eating while running so all my fueling is done at a walk, but I still really appreciate chews that don’t make your jaw hurt because you have to spend so much time and effort chewing.

4. Honey based fuel

There are several different reasons why I like honey;

  1. It’s super tasty
  2. Consuming products made with honey helps support bees and bees are super duper important
  3. It has several different heath benefits
  4. It’s a good source of quick energy
  5. Did I mention that it’s super tasty?

I could definitely write a whole different blog posts for the different reasons why I like honey and why I think it’s good for people and bees, so for this post I’m just going to list the reasons and then maybe eventually I’ll get to writing those other blog posts. 😉 But anyway, the fact that their products are honey based or contain honey as a sweetener is pretty much the biggest reason why I started using their products to fuel my runs and as snacks in the first place. 🙂

If you look really close in this photo, you can see that the Blueberry Buzz energy bars are made with over 30% honey. 🙂

5. GMO Free

I was reading through Honey Stinger’s FAQ page and found the answer to something I was curious about; Is Honey Stinger GMO free?

Yes, Honey Stinger takes great pride in the selection of ingredients and only use the highest quality available which include non GMO ingredients.

Without getting too much into it, I don’t particularly like GMO’s. And in a world where finding foods that aren’t genetically modified is, I feel, getting more difficult, I can greatly appreciate companies that feel that the highest quality ingredients that they can use DO NOT include GMO’s.

6. Organic options

Honey Stinger’s waffles, chews, gels, honey, kid’s waffles, and kid’s chews are all USDA organic, which is super neat! Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not super obsessed with eating only organic food or anything. But I do like it when companies have organic options, because in a perfect world I would definitely eat mostly organic food.

7. Gluten free options

I don’t have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, or anything like that, but I do think it’s great that Honey Stinger has gluten free options for people who do! Also, I’m super excited for the new flavors of the gluten free waffles! They sound super tasty and I can’t wait to try them! 🙂

8. Caffeinated options

Have you ever had one of those days when you just needed a little extra energy boost? I know I sure have…and days like that are when energy chews with a little bit of caffeine come in handy. At least I think so! I swear the cherry cola energy chews have helped me compete some of the most difficult workouts on the days that I just felt really bleh.

9. Lots of different flavors

Ok so, I get kinda board with the same old same  old pretty easily. So it’s kinda nice that most Honey Stinger products come in a variety of different flavors. For example; between the regular and gluten free waffles, there are 12 different flavors. They energy chews come in 8 different flavors and the different variety of bars come in several different flavors as well. So if I get tired of one flavor of anything, I have plenty of other options and I think that’s pretty darn awesome. 🙂

10. Not just for Athletes

Sure Honey Stinger is great for on the run/before/after fuel (and I’m sure that applies to cycling, swimming, or pretty much any other sport). But I think the waffles make a great snack. And I tend to eat them for breakfast when I’m too lazy to actually cook anything haha. The bars are also really good for a quick grab and go snack! I haven’t tried any of their protein bars yet (although I really want to!!), but the blueberry buzz energy bars are so freaking good! 🙂
