More November Fun

Ah November. It’s one on my most favorite months of the year. Mostly because we’ve always got a lot going on this month and I think it’s a lot of fun!! 😁

One of the reasons November is so much fun is because it’s my birthday month!!! Hahaha I was born exactly half way into November, on the 15th back in 1991. So I turned 27 this year. Yay!πŸ₯³

Haha so my father-in-law always pick out weird/funny cards to send me for my birthday. Last year’s was a cat shooting lasers out of its eyes to light the candles on a birthday cake. Haha it’s still hanging up on my fridge actually. πŸ˜‚ I thought that one was gonna be hard to beat, but this year’s was a flying kitten with rainbows and stuff. It was great.

Anyway, Luke is the best and got me a believe Training journal. I’ve wanted one of these for a while and I’m really stoked about it! It’s so neat and full of all sorts of awesome stuff! I can’t wait to start using it!! Hahaha I’m gonna wait to start filling it out until December though.

Ugh it’s so pretty!!! 😍😍😍 Plus I finally found a good use for a bunch of the stickers that have come in my monthly StrideBoxes. I’ve had a huge stack of them just collecting in my drawer, but I thought this was a good place to put them. Along with a good ol Honey Stinger sticker and a fortune cookie fortune. 😁

Luke also got me Chinese food for my birthday dinner, because that’s kind of a tradition for me. Even from when I was a little kid I always wanted Chinese food for my birthday. It was a great birthday dinner. 😊 No cake though. I’ve never been a big cake person. Hahaha when I was a kid my grandma used to make me giant batches of rice crispy treats instead of birthday cakes. I’ve also had cookie cakes, pies, cheesecake, and ice cream cakes (which is kinda weird for a November birthday πŸ˜‚), instead of normal cake. I wasn’t really feeling dessert this year though, which is weird for me. But I was really into the Chinese food.

Anyway, the day after my birthday I found out about a 5k/10k turkey trot on Thanksgiving Day that gives out while pumpkin pies to all of the finishers. So of course I signed up for the 5k. πŸ¦ƒπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ I’ve never done a turkey trot until this year, and of course I’m an overachiever about it and have ended up doing two. πŸ˜‚ Well, signing up for two at this point. But there’s no way I’m not gonna finish a 3.1 mile turkey trot.

Anyway, while signing up I also bought a sweet turkey hat, to go along with my spiffy turkey trot Zensah compression socks, and Gobbler Grind hoodie. So I’m gonna be all turkey’d out for this race! Well, my hoodie doesn’t have a turkey on it, it just says “Gobbler Grind Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k”. But I think it still counts. πŸ¦ƒπŸ˜Š

Not the best photo, but you get the point. πŸ˜‰

So yeah, I’m super duper excited about that! I’ve never done a turkey trot on Thanksgiving Day before because Luke and I usually travel to either Colorado or Illinois to be apart of one of our families Thanksgiving’s. But both of our dads work on Thanksgiving this year, so we decided to save some money and just stay home and do our own Thanksgiving.

We might end up doing something with my brother-in-law, his girlfriend, and her kids. But they always want us to come to their apartment and Luke and I aren’t to keen on that idea. We’re both crazy excited to be out of our apartment (for going on 4 years now 😁) and we enjoy having more space that’s all our own. Plus they vape inside their apartment and I just can’t handle that. Those things destroy my lungs… And we have a backyard their dogs could run around in, but whatever. If they don’t want to come to our house we’ll probably just stay home and do our own thing.

Okey dokey, enough about Thanksgiving for now. I ran today!!! Hahaha I was very resigned to take at least a week off from running after my races last weekend and I mean, I kinda made it. πŸ˜‚ But oh man, my life is an absolute wreck when I don’t have running and the routine that it keeps me in. So I HAD to run today.

I only did 1 super easy mile, but apparently that was enough to get me back on track. Ever since I started my little break I’ve been eating like shit and sitting around being an absolute lazy and unproductive lump of a human being. Now, I’m a firm believer that sometimes doing things like that is necessary. But at this point I feel like I’ve gotten a bit out of hand with it. πŸ˜‚ But like I said, my super short run this morning helped. πŸ˜„

It’s pretty crazy how tired, lazy, and out of it NOT running can make a person feel! I know a break is necessary, but yesterday I felt like shit. That’s when I decided that I absolutely NEEDED to run. Even if it was only a super short 1 mile run. 😊

Whew! Anyway, more photos from the Gobbler Grind Half were posted online last night. Of course I appreciate free race photos, but I’m really disappointed about how terrible the quality of all of the photos are. legit could have taken better pictures with my phone. In fact, my dad and I DID take better photos with our phones. They had legit photographs with DSLR cameras, so I’m not sure what happened here…

I mean, they aren’t awful. But I still feel like I could have handed someone my phone and ended up with a much better quality photo. oh well. At least they’re free!

But let’s just compare them to this photo taken at Longview. I cropped this one A LOT and it’s still a much better quality. Plus photos from Longview were free as well.

Anyways, that’s all for now. I hope everyone has a super Saturday!

November 9th, 2018

Holy cow we’ve been busy today!!!

Luke and I both had a bunch of stuff that we wanted to get done today, so we spent our entire morning running around and getting shit done!

Our first stop was Tractor Supply. We needed to pick up chicken feed, a protein supplement for them because they’re molting, straw because apparently winter is here? And we needed more to stuff in the chicken coop, and puppy chow for Whiskey. So we got all of that, came back home, and put down the straw for the chickens. Hahaha the seemed very pleased with the amount of straw we put in their nesting area and all around the entire coop.

Like I said, apparently winter is here! It snowed for almost 8 hours straight yesterday! And even more surprisingly, some of it stuck! It’s all melted now, but it was pretty while it lasted. β„οΈβ›„οΈπŸ˜Š

img_6534

Anyway, after the chickens were taken care of it was off to Aldi, followed by Sam’s Club to get our groceries for the next two weeks. That was uneventful for the most part, but it kind of set off a ridiculous mission for us to find frozen whole grain waffles. That’s what I like to eat before my long runs and what I was planning on eating for breakfast before both of my races this weekend, but the Aldi we typically shop at didn’t have any! In fact, they haven’t had them for several weeks! They have a spot in the freezer for them, but no waffles… So while we were Sam’s Club we checked there as well, but they didn’t have any either. So we went to a different Aldi and THEY DIDNT HAVE ANY FROZEN WHOLE WHEAT WAFFLES EITHER!!!!!! Yet again, they had a spot on the shelves for them, but it was empty. *sigh*

We still had other things to get done, so the waffles had to wait. We went home, unloaded and put away our groceries, and then we were back off to Home Depot for a new air filter. Whiskey got to go with us. 😊

So we got that, came back home again, Luke replaced the air filter, we swapped Whiskey for Lily, and drove 40 minutes to Lee Summit, Mo to get my packet for the Longview Half. Luckily traffic wasn’t too bad and we were in and out of the running store pretty quickly, so we made our way to Walmart before going home, in a last attempt to find some damn frozen whole grain waffles.

Thank goodness Walmart actually had some!!! Otherwise I would of had to figure something else out for my pre-race breakfast and I really didn’t want to have to do that. πŸ˜‚

After Walmart we had a late lunch at Arby’s. Hahaha that was probably bad idea, but whateves. The gyro I got there was pretty good. πŸ˜‰ Then we got back home around 2:40 pm and were done for the day! Thank goodness haha. πŸ˜‚

Even with all of that running around I was still able to keep up with my hydration and aside from the Arby’s sandwich I ate pretty well. Well, I’m planning on having mac and cheese for dinner because carb loading. πŸ˜‰

This post will be up at 5 pm central time (so like an hour from right now as I type πŸ˜‚) and my dad still won’t be here. He had to change the oil in his work van so he left later than he had planned. He should be here around 9 or 10 pm though, and that’s not too crazy late. 😁

But anyway, that’s it for today! I’m going to spend the rest of my evening relaxing, reading, and doing some light stretching. Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days is starting tomorrow and I’m really stoked!!!

Happy Friday!

November 7th, 2018

We are getting so close!!! Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days is going down this weekend and I’m super excited!!

So I thought today would be a good time to share some random thoughts, feelings, and on-goings, since today and tomorrow are my last kinda chill days really. On Friday Luke and I have some running around we have to do, including going to packet pick up for the Longview half, which is the first of my two races. And then my dad is should be arriving here at some point on Friday night. Then of course Saturday and Sunday are the races! I’m pretty darn excited that my dad is going to be able to spectate at Longview with Luke. That’s pretty cool. πŸ™‚

Anyway, it’s looking like the weather is going to be pretty awesome this weekend! Hahaha well, I think so at least. I know a lot of people don’t agree with or understand my love of cold weather. But it’s definitely going to be cold on both days! YAY!! One of the reasons why I’ve always done fall half marathons (and pretty late in the fall at that) is because I DO NOT do well in the heat! But aside from last year when it was a little more chilly, it’s always been relatively warm when I’ve done my half marathoning. So I’m really freakin’ stoked that it’s actually going to be cold!! Not too thrilled about that chance of frozen mix on Sunday though. Luckily it’s a small chance at this point, but still, that might make things a bit unpleasant. But the possibility of snow tomorrow makes me really happy! πŸ™‚

img_6507

The weather has actually been pretty awesome lately! Ranging from kinda chilly to actually cold and I’ve been loving it! I was able to break out my winter running gear for my easy 3 miler this morning which was neat! I’m also probably going to need it this weekend. The Longview half is named thus after the lake it’s held by, so I imagine it will be cold by the water! And the course change this year is supposed to offer more lake views so I’d imagine it’s going to be pretty cold at times! Yay!

Processed with Rookie Cam

Anyway, today’s run was beautiful and a lot of fun! I was kinda worried that I’d end up getting really excited about the fact that it’s cold out and run way to fast, but I managed to reign it in and stay at a very reasonable pace. πŸ™‚ That’s obviously really good. I don’t need to be tired from a hard 5k effort this weekend. πŸ˜‰ I’ve got one more easy 2 miler for tomorrow and then that’s it! Friday is a rest day and then I’ve got the half marathons to do on Saturday and Sunday! I feel like I might have mentioned that a few times already. πŸ˜‰ I’m just super excited.

img_6493

So after my run today my Garmin Fenix 5 said that I’m peaking. I’m not entirely sure how accurate that is, but either way I’d imagine that’s a good thing, right? I mean, I sure hope it is! My Garmin never showed me peaking for last year’s half and things went very poorly for me then. So maybe things will go really well for me this time? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

img_6499

I’m very confident that I’m going to be able to finish both races without any real issues. I’ve said a couple of times now that I’d really like to PR at Longview, but if I’m being 100% honest I don’t think it’s going to happen. I’ve been really focused on volume and increasing my mileage during this training cycle and honestly I’ve gotten slower (which is saying something because I’m already super slow. πŸ˜‰ ). From what I understand that’s pretty typical and I’m not really upset about it. A PR would be nice but I’ve done all sorts of new and exciting things leading up to these races and the challenge of completing two half’s in two days is still a really cool and worthy goal/accomplishment in my book. So PR or no PR I’m just happy that I’m going to be showing up at two starting lines healthy, injury free, and ready to go!

So I’ve already kinda started prepping and getting all of my gear and what not ready and in one place. I know some people like to create flat runners by laying out their gear all nice and neat and then taking a photo of that and posting it to social media with all of the appropriate hashtags and all of the relevant brands tagged in the photo. I think that’s super neat but so far all I’ve got is a pile of random shit that I’m probably going to be wearing this weekend. Maybe in a few days it will turn into a flat runner. I doubt it though. πŸ˜‚

img_6487

Underneath the running gear you’ll notice a couple of white sweaters. Those would be sweaters that my husband never wears and has graciously given me to use as throwaway jackets for the start of both races. They’re both men’s larges so they are absolutely huge on me, but at least they’ll keep me warmer in the starting corrals and for the first mile or two than if I were just to wear my running gear!

So during my taper crazies, tantrums, whatever you want to call them, I’ve kinda been neglecting my stretching and foam rolling…But on the bright side, I’ve had more time on my hands than I normally do since I’ve been running a lot less and not having to dedicate time to pre/post run activities, so my house is VERY clean! Ok that’s kind of a lie. We’ve had a little bit of rain this week so there are muddy paw prints all over my floor and our animal room (our extra bedroom) is covered with dirt because that’s where Finn and Dean have been sleeping (Lily and Whiskey are a little bit better about staying clean.). But other than that I’ve been scrubbing walls, cleaning little nooks and crannys that often get neglected, and dusting and wiping down ALL OF THE THINGS! Hey, at least it’s keeping me busy, right? πŸ˜‰

Whew! I guess that pretty much covers everything for today! I probably wont be posting a weekly recap for this week because that would be a little bit boring haha. But I’m sure I’ll have plenty more to fill you in on this weekend. πŸ˜‰

As for now, I’ve got nice and clean sheets that need put on the bed, more laundry to do, and a floor that needs vacuumed and mopped. πŸ˜‰

Happy Wednesday!

One Week To Go!!!!

One more week and Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days will officially be happening!!!!! πŸ˜±πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜Š

Don’t let my string of different emojis fool you, that’s how I should feel, but I’m still kind of experiencing the ignorant bliss that I have been throughout this whole training cycle. I guess it still hasn’t really hit me that I’m actually doing this thing. πŸ˜‚

That might be a good thing. Or it might not. I guess we shall see. But I have a feeling that around Monday or Tuesday of next week the fact that, yes I am in fact going to do this and it’s probably going to be really hard, will finally smack me in the face and wake up my long dormant nervous excitement.

I am pretty excited about the thought of getting up toe another two more starting lines. πŸ˜‰ I don’t get to race very often, so it’s always a really fun experience when I do and I always try to savor it! I’m not sure how my dad is feeling about doing his first official half. He hasn’t really said. Haha I’ve been trying to give him some pointers and advice leading up to it. He didn’t get to do much training because of his work schedule though, so it’s going to be a very interesting and potentially painful experience for both of us. πŸ˜‚

Unfortunately my brother isn’t going to be able to make it. He was going to run the Gobbler Grind Half with my dad and I, but oh well. Maybe next time, right. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I’ve been kinda starting to plan for and visualize both race days. I’ve been doing a really good job of visualizing how the start/finish of both races! Hahaha this will be my 4th time in a row running the Longview Half, so I have a pretty good idea of the starting/finishing situation there. What I haven’t really been doing good at is visualizing the middle/end parts of the race when things start to get difficult. I really need to work on that though. πŸ˜‚

That being said, they changed Longview’s course this year and I haven’t even bothered to look that all up. All I know is that there are supposed to be more views of Longview Lake and that they got rid of the giant hill at mile 2. Not gonna lie, I’m slightly disappointed about that! That hill was hard as hell, especially coming so early in the race, but it was also kinda fun.

Here’s the elevation map of the original Longview course. That hill is no joke!

Now as for the Gobbler Grind, I’m not too worried about visualization the harder parts of this race and figuring out how to work through them. I’m gonna have someone there to help me through the hard times and I’ll be there to help them too! So I feel like that’s really going to help be get through my second half in two days. I’m also really familiar with a lot of this course, including the start/finish line because it’s on the trail I used to run and walk on almost every day when Luke and I lived in an apartment in Overland Park. So thinking about getting there, hanging out, warming up, and lining up at that start has been easy and stress free! For both races really. I’m pretty stoked about that. It’s always nice knowing that you have a plan and don’t need to stress over little things on race day. 😊

This is really close to where the start of the Gobbler Grind is. I’m very familiar with the area. 😁

So yeah, that’s just what I’ve been thinking about and how I’ve been feeling these last couple of days.

Anyway, I did my last long run today! Yay! The plan was to do 8 miles, but not gonna lie, I’m kinda feeling like I might be getting sick (yikes! 😱) and have been really tired, so I compromised with myself and did 7 because that seemed a lot more doable for some reason. πŸ˜‚

The first like 3 ish miles of this run we’re kinda rough. But after I had done some coughing, hacking, and sneezing my lungs felt a little more cooperative and I felt a little better in general, so the rest of the run went relatively smoothly. 😁

When I got home my super spiffy new compression socks were waiting for me in my mailbox! So after second breakfast and a shower I put them on and wore them while I napped, because recovery. 😁 Haha I really like them though! They’re really comfortable, providing compression without feeling too tight, and they look pretty badass if you ask me!! I won’t be wearing them on a run until after my half marathons though. I don’t think they’d give me blisters or cause me any sort of discomfort, but I don’t want to risk it this close to my big days!

Anyway, that’s it! The hard work is done!! Now it’s time to rest, recover, and then do two half marathons in two days! 😁😁😁

So I believe I’ll be going to packet pick up for the Longview Half on Friday. I’ll also probably pick up a couple of throw away jackets that day, because it’s supposed to be really cold both mornings! Yay! By now you probably know that I love the cold!! So both Saturday and Sunday are looking good for me.

Now that’s just the weather for where I live though. I don’t live far from either race, but it’s far enough that it could be little bit different, as it gets closer to race days I’ll be checking the weather for those city’s. πŸ˜‰ I also imagine it’ll feel colder by the lake for my first half. It usually does.

Anyway, as of right now my dad is planning on driving here from Colorado Friday and will probably be here Friday night. Which is pretty awesome! That means he’ll be able to spectate at my first race with Luke Saturday morning. πŸ˜ƒ After my first half I’d like to head home so I can shower and nap, and then go pick up our packets for the second half (well, my dad’s first haha, but you know what I mean πŸ˜‰). Packet pick up is from 1-5 pm on Saturday, so I should have time to get all of that done and still be able to drive 30 minutes and into Missouri to get to the running store where packet pick up is being held. Then I guess the plan is to do a bunch of recover stuff and hang out with my dad for the rest of the day. Probably psyching each other up for what’s to come on a Sunday. 😁

So yeah. That’s just kinda the plan so far. I’m sure some things will change by next weekend and I’m good with that. I like to have a general plan, but I also like to be super open and flexible with it because shit happens. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I’ll talk a little bit more about potentially getting sick and how I’m feeling and what not tomorrow in my weekly recap, so that’s all for today!

Happy Saturday!

~Ashley

Weekly Recap: October 15th-21st, 2018

I felt like this week was going relatively smoothly until my long run on Saturday. Other than that I did everything I had planned and felt pretty good doing it. Well, there were times when I felt kinda tired and sluggish, but it was nothing too bad. Plus at this point in half marathon training that’s pretty much to be expected!

So here’s what went down this week;

Monday:

  • 3 miles

It felt like 26 degrees on my run on Monday! I got to break out my winter running gear and that was pretty exciting! It was nice, cold, and beautiful outside on Monday.

The original plan was to do an easy run. It was still kinda recovering from a cold and from all of the fun we had over the weekend while we were in Illinois. But my legs were feeling speedy on Monday so I just kinda went with it. It was fun. πŸ™‚

img_5831

Tuesday:Β

  • 5 miles

I was feeling a little bit sluggish on Tuesday. It wasn’t too bad, I still got through my scheduled 5 miler, it just wasn’t as fun as Monday’s run haha.

img_5843

Wednesday:

  • 3 miles
  • a little bit of stretching

It was another beautiful fall day in Kansas! I’ve been loving the weather! πŸ™‚ Although my run on Wednesday wasn’t all that great, it wasn’t terrible either. I’ve really been enjoying watching all of the leaves starting to change colors. There are some really pretty ones in my neighborhood right now and it’s just going to bet better and better as fall goes on. πŸ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

Thursday:

  • 3 miles
  • 30 minutes of pilates
  • 15 minutes of yoga

It was just a little bit warmer on Thursday, but still beautiful outside! Still would have been a great day for running if it wasn’t so windy! I spent my 3 miles battling with the wind, but I was still able to do a semi-speedy run, which is what I wanted to do for Thursday. πŸ™‚ Later in the afternoon I did some Pilates and then yoga in the evening.

Processed with Rookie Cam

Friday:

  • rest day
  • 20 minutes of yoga

I felt REALLY good after those 20 minutes of yoga! It was pretty great haha. Other than that I spent most of my Friday getting my gear ready and just kinda prepping in general for my long run. Stuff like washing all of the gear I wanted to wear and getting it all into one place, making sure I knew what I was having for breakfast, setting the coffee maker, and making sure I was hydrated. Stuff like that really helps the mornings of my long runs go much more smoothly. πŸ™‚

That night I got lots and lots and lots of puppy cuddles. It was adorable and annoying all at the same time haha.

Saturday:

  • 12.69 miles
  • 25 minutes of stretching/foam rolling

Well you guys I gave it my all, but today my all just wasn’t enough… My goal was 16 miles. It was supposed to be the longest run of this training cycle and the longest run I’ve ever done, but I just didn’t have it in me today. But ya know what? That’s ok! I like to look at it like this; if you don’t struggle and sometimes fail during a training cycle then you’re not going to be ready to struggle and then over come that struggle on race day. I’d much rather have a bad workout than a bad race. So I’m looking at this from that perspective. I’ve gotten the bad run out of the way, and now hopefully both of my races will go well. And even if they don’t at least I’ll be ready to handle it. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ Always look on the bright side my friends! Or at the very least, learn to find the positive in what might in the moment feel like a negative, because I promise you it’s always there. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ

Alrighty all of that being said, I’m pretty sure part of my downfall during this run was yet again, being chased by a little demon dog that I’ve been getting chased by almost every time I run down a certain street for several months now, and yesterday he had a friend. They were smart enough to split up so one was always on a different side of me so I couldn’t really keep my eyes on both of them at once and once of them was starting to get really cocky and was starting to nip at my ankles. Luckily he never got a hold of me and I gave him a good kick and that made him stop. But they both kept following me until a truck drove down the street…

These little assholes are always out terrorizing people. One day I saw one of them chasing a lady with a stroller and her dog. Obviously her dog wasn’t happy about that but I didn’t see what happened because I was going a different direction. Anyway, the next time one of these little bastards chases me I’m gonna give their owner a piece of my damn mind. This is getting absolutely ridiculous. They just let their dogs out in their yard that’s not fenced in, they don’t put them on tie outs, and they don’t stay outside to watch the dogs. So the dogs terrorize anyone who goes by.

Honestly I’m surprised they haven’t been hurt by another dog or hit by a car. And I’d be lying if I didn’t say that there have been a few times that I’ve thought about bringing Finn down there and letting him rough them up a bit. He’s ridiculously protective of me, so he’d definitely want to do something about one of the little demon dogs chasing us. Obviously I haven’t and I probably wont. But damn it would be kind of satisfying to watch them get roughed up a little by a dog that probably weighs almost 35 pounds more than them. But at the end of the day I know it’s not the dogs fault and I shouldn’t take it out on them. All of the blame lies on the owner who lets them do this…But still, I’m not gonna hesitated to give them a good, hard kick to prevent my ankles from getting bit. There’s no way I’m gonna just let them attack me.

Ugh, just thinking about it really pisses me off. How can you think it’s ok to let your dogs act that way?!?!?

img_5925

The little fucker on the left was the one who was trying to bite me. Seriously, fuck who ever owns these dogs. They are terrible dog owners.Β

Sunday:

  • rest day

Well, if you can call going on a crazy cleaning spree resting haha. Oh man it felt so good to get my house nice and clean though! It’s kinda been a disaster ever since we got all of that rain two weeks ago, but since the mud has finally dried up and the dogs are clean again I though today would be a great day to tackle all of the dirt in my house. πŸ˜‚

Haha the photo is from this morning when Luke and I were feeding the chickens. I know most of my photos from this week are fall foliage, but it’s all just so pretty!!! πŸ‚πŸπŸƒ

Total Weekly Mileage: 26.85

That’s a little over 3 miles less than I would have liked, but I’m still pretty proud of what I’ve done this week. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

I hope you’ve had a wonderful week!

Back Home!!

Haha alright, that title is slightly misleading. We’ve been back since Sunday night, but I haven’t had a chance to write a blog post because on Sunday we were EXHAUSTED and very happy to be back home, then yesterday I was busy catching up on chores and absolutely enjoying the wonderful weather we’ve been having. πŸ˜„

On our drive back home to Kansas from Illinois the temperature started hardcore dropping. In Illinois we were somewhere in the low 50’s, about half way through Missouri it got down to the low 40’s and started raining pretty bad, and then of course it kept raining all through the rest of Missouri and into Kansas. By the time we got home it was in the high 30’s and still drizzling. Not gonna lie, I loved it! Haha although we really do need things to dry off here. We’ve gotten waaay yo much rain lately.

So yesterday was chilly, sunny, and absolutely gorgeous!!! It felt like 26 degrees when I went out for my run, so I was actually able to break out my winter running gear! Haha I was a little bit too stoked about that. πŸ˜‚ Yesterday’s Run was supposed to be an easy one, since I am still getting over a cold, but my legs felt speedy and I just kinda went with it. Oh man, it was probably one of the most fun runs I’ve done in a long while. If this is the kind of weather I get for my half marathons (although a little cloud cover would be nice for those) I’ll be the worlds happiest camper!!

It was actually colder this morning than it was yesterday! Woke up to the high 20’s and there was frost on the ground! I honestly cannot tell you the last time we got frost in October! The last several years have brought some really warm falls, so I’m crazy excited that so far this one has been pretty chilly!

While it was colder this morning it did warm up a little bit faster than yesterday and I got out for my run a little bit later. That’s not a big deal though and one of the reasons I love this weather! I can run comfortably at any time of day and not feel like I’m having a heat stroke. πŸ˜‚ Seriously, summer running is crazy hard for me and something I really struggle with. I’m so glad that it’s over! 😊😊😊

Anyway, today’s run wasn’t as glorious as yesterday’s. I was feeling a little bit sluggish and had to take a snack break about halfway through. πŸ˜‚ The weather was still really nice though!

So yeah, I’m currently a very happy camper! It’s looking like the weather is going to stay this way for a while which is great! I’ve got another big long run on Saturday and the nice weather will make it just a little bit more enjoyable. πŸ˜‚

Anyways, that’s all for now! Luke and I are about to go get us some groceries!

Happy Tuesday!

~Ashley

Yet Another Trip To Illinois

We finally got a chance to make another trip to Illinois!! We were originally going to go two weekends ago, but this weekend ended up working out a lot better for several reasons. One reason being that Luke got today off from work. He gets every other Friday off which is pretty spiffy! And it always works out really well to travel to places after Luke gets off from work on Thursday, so that’s what we did yesterday! But before we did that, of course I had to run! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‰

It was absolutely gorgeous on Thursday morning! The sun was finally out after almost 3 days of basically non stop rain (that was pretty awful… and you know it’s bad when I’m saying that, because I love raining weather. πŸ˜‚), it was a cool and crips 41 degrees, the trees are starting to change colors, it was great!

It was so perfect and I loved it!!

So earlier this week I had actually planned on doing my long run on Thursday morning, since I knew we’d be heading to Illinois this weekend, but Luke brought home a bug from work. And of course he didn’t get sick, but I definitely started to come down with it… So since I wasn’t feeling so great I just went out to see what I could do on Thursday. I made it 3 miles before I knew it was time to be done. So it kinda sucks that I didn’t get in my long run like I wanted to, but at least I got something done. πŸ™‚

It’s actually a good thing I didn’t go any longer than that though. Luke ended up leaving work earlier than he’d originally planned, so by the time he got home I had actually gotten everything I needed to done before we left. So that did end up working pretty well! I was showered, dressed, had all of the animals taken care of, and everything packed and ready to go by the time he got home. Go me! 😁

So once Luke got home he changed, and then we were able to pack up the truck and hit the road! This time around we only brought Whiskey with us. My brother-in-law is taking care of the rest of our critters for us.

Whiskey did really well on her first road trip! Haha she actually slept for almost all 5 hours of it, so that was good. We stopped at a rest area about 3 hours in so that she could pee. She did really well with that! She didn’t have any accidents in the truck, but went right away when we stopped. So far this dog has been the easiest dog I’ve EVER potty trained. It’s crazy!

Anyway, since we ended up leaving home earlier that planned we ended up getting caught in good ‘ol St. Louis rush hour traffic . It was stop and go for quite a while and it was pretty obnoxious haha. It got better once we got across the Mississippi River though.

We finally got to my grandma’s house right around 7 pm. Just in time for my mom’s birthday dinner! Yesterday was her birthday, so it was pretty nice that I got to be there for that! Obviously she was super stoked about that! πŸ˜„ Haha and her little dog Bella was very happy to see me too. πŸ˜‰

Luke hung around for a little bit so that my grandma and mom could meet Whiskey. My uncle’s dog Luther was making her kinda nervous, but she did enjoy meeting some new people! Luke wanted her to meet his dad and brothers too, so he took her to his dad’s house last night and that’s where they stayed the night.

(Sorry that these photos aren’t in a nice little collage. I did this all on my phone. πŸ˜‰)

Haha not gonna lie though, it was kinda nice getting a break from the new puppy. I was able to eat my dinner without having a little puppy trying to steal all of my food! πŸ˜‚And it’s not like I could be too lonely, Luther really likes me and cuddled with slept with me last night.

So this morning Luke and his dad went fishing. They took his dad’s boat out to a lake and Whiskey got to go with them. Last night Luke bought her a little sweater so she wouldn’t get too cold out on the water. It was another chilly day in the Midwest. It was 40 this morning. But apparently she did really well on the boat, so that’s good. Haha she’s just been experiencing all sorts of new stuff in the week we’ve had her.

So while they were out fishing, I was hanging out with my mom and grandma. Not super exciting stuff, but still nice. I made THE BEST oatmeal for breakfast haha. It wasn’t super healthy, but I couldn’t resist adding some chocolate chips and sprinkles to my breakfast. πŸ˜‚

Later this afternoon my mom had to go babysit her friend’s daughter, so Luke and I went to his grandma’s house to visit. She got to meet the puppy for the first time and she was thrilled! So we actually ended up staying there for a while and she made us chilli for dinner. It was perfect for the cold/drizzly day we’re experiencing here in Illinois. 😊

Haha so I’ve had two really big “grandma meals” since we’ve been here. Luke was joking that I’m going to gain weight if I keep going to grandma’s houses. And I mean, he’s probably right! πŸ˜‚ But how do you turn down grandma’s cooking?!? You just can’t!

Anyway after that Luke brought me back to my grandma’s, and of course the first thing she did when I got home was offer me food. πŸ˜‚ I politely decline. I’m stuffed!

So Whiskey is staying with us tonight and she’s really been enjoying playing with my uncle’s dog. Unfortunately he’s super loud, likes to bark, and was driving us all crazy. But at least they’re all having fun.

Alrighty, that’s all for today!

Tomorrow Luke and I are going to be going to his other grandma’s birthday party so that should be fun!

Happy Friday!!
