Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two is Officially A-go!!

Woohoo!! As of Saturday I am officially registered for the Gobbler Grind half marathon! That means Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two is officially a-go!! 😱

Apparently hanging up my fliers at the Indian Creek Trail and at the office where Luke works really worked! So far I’ve had 8 people sign up for the Gobbler Grind using my ambassador discount code which means I got to register for free (I only needed 5 for that. πŸ˜‰). Sweet!!!

Some ambassador programs are definitely better than others! 😁 Some just give you a discount, but others (usually ones that you have to work a little bit harder for) have better benefits like this! And I’m not trying to brag or anything like that! Just keeping it real and everything in full disclosure! I am an ambassador for this race (and several brands) so I do get some perks from all of that. But I do strive to keep everything I post in here 100% real. I would never promote or become involved with a brand or race that I didn’t believe in or love.

Hahaha and I know I always say something like that whenever I talk about any of that ambassador programs I’m in, but like I said, just trying to keep it real on my little corner of the interwebs! πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

So anyway, Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two is officially official! Yay!!

And right before I “officially” kick off my half marathon training cycle too!! Hahaha I say “officially” because my training plan actually starts next week, but I’ve been training with Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two in mind since the beginning of this year, really.

I would be a lot more stoked about the start of my half marathon training plan if the last week of June and first week of July didn’t have so little running in them… Those weeks I only totaled 11 mile and the 7 miles respectively. Oops. But I mean, it’s been a busy summer and life just kinda happened. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Really though I was doing pretty well, at least mileage wise, up until that point though and I really got my shit together last week and got in 18 miles. Not what I’ve been aiming for, but not terrible. And I’m really focusing on making this week even better, so I should be ok in that department. I won’t be going into this training cycle ridiculously out of shape at least! πŸ˜‚

The real issue here is that I haven’t really done any speed work since this spring. Yikes. Since I’m tackling two half’s in two days I don’t really have a time goal for either. Especially since I’m running both races with my dad. But really, I should still be doing some speedier things…

Oh man the first few speed sessions of half marathon training are really going to hurt. 🀣

But all in all I am pretty excited to “officially” start training for this thing next week! Hopefully it’ll all go smoothly! Or as smoothly as summer running can ever go for me. Hahaha I am not a fan. πŸ₯΅ But summer miles bring fall smiles! So I’m going to do my best to stick with it!

And doing my best apparently means waking up at 5 am so I can get out the door before the sun comes up and slogging through 3 very slow, slightly painful miles. At least, that was my “best” this morning. Really I wanted to get in 5 miles today, but my legs are shot from walking around the zoo in Doc Martens all day on Saturday. My sparkle boots (Doc Martens 1460 Pascal Glitter πŸ˜‰) are very pretty and SUPER comfortable! But they are a lot heavier than the shoes that I have been wearing lately.

I actually experienced this every fall when I got from wearing mostly tennis shoes and flip flops to wearing heavier boots. My legs always feel a little heavy when I start my footwear transition. πŸ˜‚

Worth it! I got several compliments on my boots that day. 😊

So, 3 miles today! I think my slow slogging (in my super light Nike Free’s! πŸ˜‰) helped shake out my legs a little bit though. So hopefully tomorrow’s run will go a little bit better! Either way, still got in 3 miles before the sun had a chance to rise and really heat up the road, so I’ll take that as a win!!

After I finished my slow slog run I spent about an hour and a half tending to my chickens and my garden. I had quite a bit of weeding to do. πŸ˜‚ But my tomato plants are finally starting to go off!! They’ve had a bunch of green tomatoes on them for a while now but they’re starting to get ripe! Plus I’ve got these HUGE green tomatoes out there and I absolutely cannot wait for them to to finally turn red!!

Our garden is much smaller than it’s been in previous years. This year we’ve only got tomato plants, pepper plants (which I’ve already gotten one huge, green pepper from, cantaloupe plants, and cucumber plants (which are just now starting to grow little tiny cucumbers!!!). But it’s doing MUCH better than last year. Last summer was absolutely BRUTAL. It was crazy hot and sunny pretty much every day and I’m not even exaggerating when I say we went two whole months without a drop of rain. It was crazy! But this year has been sooo much better and we’re definitely going to get a much better produce yield, which means we’ll actually have some stuff to can! Yay!!

Anyways, that’s all for today!!

Happy Monday! I hope you have a fantastic week!

Until next time,

~Ashley

There Ain’t No Cure For The Summertime Blues

Hahaha I don’t actually have the summertime blues! I just couldn’t think of a title for this post and it seemed almost fitting. πŸ˜‰ We’ve been super busy here lately!! And unfortunately the past three-ish weeks have just not been good for me running-wise.

Between summer weather finally hitting us HARD (it was actually relatively mild up until the last week of June), a weird little niggle in my hip (which is gone now, thankfully!), one of my brother in laws staying with us (which isn’t a bad thing! I’m just a very routine oriented person and being out of my usual routine is a little difficult for me), preparing for and then celebrating Independence Day and Luke’s birthday, lots of treats and yummy, greasy, comfort/party food, alcohol consumption, and getting less sleep than usual, running has just kinda fallen to the back burner.

But I mean, these strawberry margaritas were definitely worth it. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

I’m definitely not super stoked about that, but sometimes life happens and you’ve just gotta roll with it. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ And I’ve definitely been rolling with it! πŸ˜‚

But this week I really want to buckle down and get some shit done! There hasn’t been enough suffering in my life lately and boy do I miss it!! (Hahaha my fellow runners know what I’m talking about! πŸ˜‰). And obviously I’ve just missed running in general, even though I have been doing some! It’s just not been enough.

I’ve still got a few more interesting weeks ahead of me before things calm down around here though! Later today two of my sister in laws will be arriving here and then the younger one will be staying with us for the week along with her brother. Not gonna lie, I have no idea what I’m going to do with two teenagers in my house! My brother in law is pretty chill and we get along fine. But like a lot of brothers and sisters, these two don’t exactly get along great all of the time. I’m sure we’ll all be fine! It’s just going to be an interesting week! πŸ˜‚

We didn’t have a flag, so on the 4th we played the national anthem and all faced my brother in law’s shorts. πŸ˜‚

Then next weekend Luke and I are driving to Illinois to visit some other family (this will be after my brother and sister and law will be back home in Minnesota). Obviously that will be more fun, but I can never seem to fit in any running while we’re there. Not a big deal, at the very least I know it’s coming so I’ll be able to fit in my long run (which is the run I’m always the most worried about missing) in earlier that week.

So anyways, that’s what’s been going on with me! Lots of fun, but very little running. Hahaha I really need to get my ass back into gear though! Half marathon training officially (because I already feel like I’ve been training πŸ˜‰) starts this month and I am PUMPED! I’m going to be trying to tackle two half marathons in two days again this year (it didn’t end up happening last year, bummer). And this year my dad will be joining me for BOTH half’s!

Hahaha he’s going to have to get his ass into gear as well! He hasn’t been doing much running lately. He has been mountain biking quite a bit though, but obviously that’s not the same thing. Either way, I don’t think a time goal is going to be in place for either of these half’s for that very reason. But either way, we’ll still have fun!

Hahahaha I stole this photo from his Instagram without asking. But I’m pretty sure he won’t care. πŸ˜‰

But speaking of Operation Two Half Marathons In Two Days: Take Two, I finally got around to hanging up some fliers with my ambassador discount code on them!

I’ve had my fliers for a while now, but I’ve been slacking a little bit. πŸ˜‚ But now I’ve got some hung up in several of the break rooms at the office Luke works at, the break room of the warehouse one of my brother in laws works at, a Panera, a dog park, and several on the Indian Creek Trail in Overland Park, KS! Yay!!

I’ve still got plenty more to hang up though. I need to hang some up around my town as well! I know there are several runners around here who also like to do local races (hahaha I’ve heard their names and the city their from announced at some of the local races I’ve been to!).

In full disclosure, if I get 5 people to use my code I get to do the half marathon for free! And obviously I’d love that! So far I know I’ve got two people registered with it. Possibly even all 5 already. One of my local Instagram friends posted a photo of one of my fliers on her running groups Facebook page and she said at least 4 people want to register for this race as a prep race for a marathon they’re trying for! So hopefully they do! Hahaha that would work out pretty well for several people, I think. Myself included obviously. πŸ˜‰

But more importantly, I’ve got training that I need to get done! And I’m definitely ready to get back to work! Getting back into it is probably going to suck pretty hard considering the general lack of any substance the small amount of running these last three weeks have had. But I feel very eager to get back to it, so bring it on!!

Anyway, that’s what’s going on with me right now!

I did wake up early (5 am. Ew. 🀒) and got 4 miles done this morning! So I’m off to a good start! Now I’ve got some stuff to do before my sister in laws get here this afternoon!

Happy Monday! I hope you have a fantastic week!

Weekly Recap: June 24th-30th, 2019

Wow very little running happened this week! Honestly I just haven’t been feeling it. But after several pretty darn good weeks in a row I’ll take one down week!

Monday:

  • Rest day
  • 15 minutes of yoga

Holy moly I was TIRED On Monday. Last week was a tough one. I feel like I ran really well and accomplished what I wanted to accomplish as far as running goes, but it was hard. And I literally didn’t want to do anything after I finished every single run last week. But that’s usually how summer running ends up going for me.

But anyway, after two hard week in a row this is more of a down week and I’m hardcore embracing that!! 😊

DIY face mask and hair mask. #restdaybrags

Tuesday:

  • 3 miles

Whew I woke up late (7:15) I’m Tuesday. Whoops.

So the sun was up and it was HOT when I got out to run. But on the bright side, I was feeling a lot better after taking Monday off. 😊 3 more miles in the leg bank. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Wednesday:

  • Rest Day

Just not feelin’ it in Wednesday. Plus my hip was feeling a little bit weird. Nothing crazy or anything. I think I just tweaked it at some point. Hahaha but either way, maybe the rest day was a good thing because of that. πŸ˜‰

Thursday:

  • 8 miles in the treadmill
  • 30 minutes on the stationary bike

My hip was definitely feeling better on Thursday! Hahaha I wasn’t exactly planning on running 8 miles on the treadmill but it just kinda happened. πŸ˜‚

That’s actually the farthest I’ve ever run on the treadmill! I’m not particularly fond of treadmill running (who is, really? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ) so I don’t often spend much time there. But anyway, I talked more about this run here, if you’re interested. πŸ‘πŸ»

Friday:

  • 25 minutes of yoga
  • Several margaritas consumed

Hahaha oh man, it’s been so HOT! We were under a heat advisory from Wednesday to Saturday morning so I just was NOT feeling doing much of anything on Friday. Actually, I feel like the heat had really contributed to my general lethargy this week. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, Friday night Luke grilled some steak and corn (yum!!) and we made strawberry margaritas! πŸ˜‹ We used fresh strawberries and a little bit of ice so they had an almost smoothie like consistency and they were AMAZING! I don’t drink very often, and when I do it’s usually beer or wine, I’m not much into hard liquor. But these were super good. πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

This margarita tasted like I wasn’t running the next day. πŸ˜‰

Saturday:

  • Rest Day

Surprisingly I didn’t wake up feeling too terrible after the margaritas Friday night! Apparently the strawberries and ice helped keep me hydrated. πŸ˜‰

Still didn’t feel like running though. Honestly, this has just been an off week for me running wise. It happens and I decided that I was just going to roll with it. Sometimes it’s good to just take a little step back and relax a little and just enjoy myself. Hence the margaritas on Friday followed by Chinese food on Saturday. πŸ˜‰

But burnout is a very real thing, and since I’d like to continue running for as long as physically possible I do my best to keep it fun and just kinda go with the flow when it’s not. Or if I’m feeling tired of just feel like I need a little break.

Look at all of those tongues! The dogs aren’t really fond of this heat either!

Sunday:

Another chill day for the most part. Walked some dogs in the morning, then cleaned the house while enjoying one of the best albums ever recorded. πŸ˜„

This evening we took Whiskey to a trail and then an off leash dog park for a little bit. It was freaking hot!! πŸ₯΅ But I got some of my Gobbler Grind fliers hung up so that’s good. 😊 Hopefully people will see them and use my code!! I guess we’ll see. 😁

So yeah, there ya go! A very non-running filled week. πŸ˜‚ But, I think next week will be better. I’ve had a week of dealing with the REAL hot and humid weather and I think I’ve some what adjusted to it. Or at least adjusted as much as I’m going to. I’m literally already counting down the days until the Fall Equinox. πŸŽƒ πŸ˜‚

Yeah, fall can’t get here soon enough! πŸ₯΅πŸ₯΅πŸ₯΅

Anyway, that’s all for now!

Happy Sunday!

~Ashley

New PR, Baby!!

I ran 8 freaking miles on the treadmill today! That’s the farthest I’ve ever gone on a treadmill!!! Hahaha that totally counts as a PR, right?? πŸ˜‰

Honestly though I didn’t actually plan on running 8 miles on the treadmill today, although I did plan to do my run inside. It’s heating up here in Kansas! It was hot and sunny today and I didn’t want to deal with that! Especially since I stayed up late last night, so I really didn’t want to have to wake up super early. And that, my friends, is why having a treadmill is nice! I was able to sleep in and run farther that I would have if I would have run outside. Probably.

Anyway, like I said, this wasn’t planned at all! Originally I was aiming for 4-5 miles for today. Being on the treadmill for extended periods of time is kind of a mind fuck for me. After about 3 miles I have to start playing some weird mind games with myself. Especially since for whatever reason, I can’t run as fast as I normally would be able to on the treadmill. It completely messes with my form and I basically slow down to a crawl, and I’m already a slow runner to begin with! So. Weird mental games have to happen. But I mean, whatever works, right? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

Luckily for me though I only had to do that a little bit near the end. Broadway Idiot was able to hold my attention and keep my mind from melting from boredom for the most part.

After I had hit about 5 miles I decided why not aim for 6? Then not even half way into my 6th mile I thought to myself “why not aim for 8? That’s only 2 more miles. And I’ve definitely got two more miles in me.” Hahaha yeah, that’s a nice little mind trick. πŸ˜‰ But it worked so I’ll take it!!

Also, having a very cute spectator definitely helped. Lily hung out with me while I got this one done. πŸΆπŸ’œ

So, 8 miles done and dusted! Which means my long run for the week is actually done, because 8 was the plan for this weeks long run. Not gonna lie, that’s kind of a nice feeling.

I feel like everything actually ended up working out so well because I ate pizza for dinner last night and for breakfast this morning, and I swear every time I do a run fueled on pizza it ends up being a really good one! Or ya know, at least decent. I wouldn’t call running on the treadmill “really good” because I always feel like I’m going to die if boredom, but at least my body felt good. πŸ˜‚ Hahaha anyway, apparently pizza is the perfect ratio of carbs and fat for me. It’s never not worked. So basically what I’m saying is I should eat more pizza. πŸ•πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‰

After this run I was exhausted! I think know it was more mental than physical. Don’t get me wrong, I still felt like I ran 8 miles (because I did πŸ˜‰) but man, being on the treadmill always feels harder that actually running outside. Which is kinda funny, because running on the treadmill is supposed to be easier than running outside. But again, I think it’s just a mental thing.

Anyway, the rest of my day was kinda chill. I spent a good portion of my afternoon reading, actually. I’ve been re-reading Stephen Kong’s Dark Tower series for like, the 5th or 6th time, and I always forget how much I get pulled into these books! I mean, Stephen Kong’s work always really draws me in. I’ve been a huge fan of his since I was a lowly 7th grader in desperate need of something more challenging that what we were reading in school. Hahaha Stephen Kings The Stand was obviously the right choice for a 13 year old. πŸ˜‰

But ever since then I’ve absolutely devoured his books, particularly the Dark Tower series. It’s just So. Good! I can’t recommend it’s enough!! it’s definitely my favorite book series ever!

After spending several hours with Roland and his Ka-tet I finally got my butt in gear and got a bunch of stuff done around the house. Nothing as exciting as running 8 miles on the treadmill though and I feel like that’s kinda saying something. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

Anyway, I just wanted to share my little achievement with you today! I don’t like running on the treadmill so I’m kinda weirdly proud of myself right now.

But that’s all for now!

Until next time,

~Ashley πŸ‘½

Random Thoughts and A Little Update

I keep telling myself that I want to get back into blogging like I was a year or two ago. I want to talk more about what I’m up to and what not outside of just my weekly recaps and Monthly Miles posts but eh….I don’t know.

I’ve had a couple of false starts when it comes to really blogging again, but this time I swear I’m really going to make an effort to really get back into it! Because honestly I miss how much I used to write on here. I also miss sharing more of who I am outside of my running life.

Because yes, I am a runner and I do love running, but I am so much more than that!!

The same kinda goes for Instagram as well. I’m definitely still very active on there, especially since I’ve really been working towards getting 10,000 followers (I just really want the swipe up feature for my stories, ok!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚). I’m getting super close but at the same time I’m having kinda the same problem there. It’s all running all of the time. It didn’t used to be. But in attempting to gain followers I’ve quickly learned that selfies that somehow pertain to running get A LOT more engagement than say, photos of my dogs, or garden, or whatever. That’s all fine and good, but focusing on just selfies and only running related stuff has kinda taken some of the fun and creativity that Instagram used to bring me.

So I don’t know. I just kinda want to start sharing more outside of my running again. And actually keeping this blog up to date in general! So, that’s currently my plan! Hahaha but don’t worry though, running is still going to be the main focus of my blogging/Instagram-ing.

So anyway, life goes on and here’s a very general update;

My family dynamics as far as my immediate family (parents and siblings) have changed quite a bit in the past two years or so. I haven’t really talked about all of that much on here to protect the privacy of all of those involved. Plus it’s just been…weird. There have been times where I (and I feel like my siblings as well) have had to chose sides. That wasn’t hard. For me and my brother at least. But it still didn’t feel right. But at the same time a certain party in all of this kinda deserves it. It’s just weird. And I don’t think anyone is really happy about the way things have turned out.

Maybe one day I’ll go into more detail as far as this whole situation goes. But since it’s still kind of unfolding everything is going to be a little vague right now.

Anyway, in more uplifting news, my little backyard farm is doing well! My whole brood of animals are great! My hens are consistently laying around 5-6 eggs a day, Luke and I started our garden earlier this spring, and while it’s smaller that in previous years, it’s still doing well!

One of Luke’s brothers is staying with us for part of the summer before his first year of college. So far that’s been relatively uneventful. But he says he’s having a good time here, so that’s all that matter. πŸ˜‚ And in a couple of weeks his sister will be here as well. Just for a week though. Then a week after she leaves we’re driving back to Minnesota to drop my brother-in-law off at home and then Luke and I plan on going to St. Louis from there to visit with more family. Which means at least two more dogs are getting dropped off at the kennel again. Poor puppies. They do not like staying at the kennel and this will be the second time in 3 ish months that they’re going to have to spend a few days there.

Last time we took Whiskey to Minnesota with us and Lily, Dean, and Finn had to stay at the kennel. This time I think we’re going to bring Lily and Whiskey with us and leave Finn and Dean at the kennel.

Whiskey sure enjoyed her time in Minnesota and I’m sure she’ll be happy to go back! Poor Finn and Dean though. I hate having to leave them at a kennel. But traveling with 4 dogs is hard.

Since Luke’s brother is here he decided to add an extra line to our phone plan and get him a smart phone, since he didn’t have one. So in order to take advantage of the buy one get one deal on iPhone’s that Sprint was having my phone got upgraded from an iPhone 8 to an iPhone XR since I was eligible for an upgrade and apparently that counted towards the sale. Really the only big difference is now I don’t have a home button anymore. It’s taken a while to get used to but I am getting the hang of it. Although I keep taking random screen shots on accident because now that involves holding the lock button and volume up button instead of the home button, so now I just have a bunch of weird screen shots in my camera roll.

At least now Luke’s brother has a smart phone which I’m sure will come in handy for college, so that’s good. But currently neither of us have a case on our new phones because the XR is bigger than the 8. Hahaha that’s been a little unnerving. I’m terrified that I’m finally going to crack my first iPhone screen (I’ve only ever cracked one phone screen and that was my old Galaxy). πŸ˜‚ But hopefully next week we’ll be able to get new cases.

Actually transferring all of my data from my old phone to my new phone took FOREVER though, because the girl working at sprint was constantly on her phone and not paying attention to what was happening as far as the data transfer goes. It literally took her over an hour and a half to do it, and at one point the other person working there had to help me because she just walks off to take a phone call. Not on the store phone. On her phone. πŸ™„ That was super annoying but it did eventually get done and everything transferred just fine.

But by some weird coincidence that same day my iTunes account went all crazy and deleted most of my music?? That was weird and super stressful. I’ve basically had that account since iTunes was even a thing and I had a piss ton of music on it. Luckily I had a lot of my music backed up (it really should have been ALL of it, but some I couldn’t find and some just disappeared from my backed up iTunes files). So that night I spend 3 hours trying to figure that all out. I was not happy… but a lot of it is fixed now. I’m still working on restoring my iTunes account to its former glory. All of my playlists got deleted as well, so I’m currently working on rebuilding all of those.

But for real, what the actual fuck iTunes?!?!? What happened to my music and playlists?!?!?

And speaking of music; I’ve recently discovered a new band that I actually like!! Like, holy cow guys, that NEVER happens. πŸ˜‚ So far I’ve only actually been listening to a few of their songs but I’m totally digging them! Plus I mean, all girl punk/metal/pop/alternative band. What’s not to love?!?

Hahaha ok, I could go on and on trying to play catch up, so we’ll just stop there for now.

But hopefully I’ll be blogging more regularly from now on! That’s my goal anyway!

Happy hump day!!

~Ashley

Weekly Recap: June 10th-16th, 2019

Well I’ve sure had an interesting week when it comes to running! Some good, some well, not so good but funny now to look back on. πŸ˜‚ Although I am still feeling one of my running incidents from this week. But we’ll get there in a minute. πŸ˜‰

It was an interesting week and an all around good week as far as training goes! I got in all of the mileage that I wanted to get done, I’ve been (mostly) sticking with the Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge, and I even got a few speedier workouts done! 😁

So, let’s get this weird week recapped!

Monday:

  • 3 miles
  • Blogilates Summer Sculpt

So we somehow got INCREDIBLY lucky when it comes to weather! At least I sure think so! πŸ˜‰ On Monday morning it was a glorious 53 degrees when I started my run! It was FANTASTIC!

It was still a little humid, but honestly I can’t really complain about that. Last June it was already crazy hot so 53 degrees this time of year almost felt unheard of. It was great and I enjoyed every second of it. 😊

Tuesday:

  • 2 miles
  • Blogilates Summer Sculpt

I’m not entirely sure what to call Tuesday’s run. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ It wasn’t really a specific workout but it was definitely a harder effort. And that harder effort felt pretty darn great because we had another cooler morning. πŸ˜‰

Followed my run with the Blogilates Summer Sculpt challenge, of course! As you can see, Bubbles has been joining me for these Pilates sessions. I have a sneaking suspicion that she’s not working as hard as I am though. 😹

Wednesday:

  • 5 miles
  • Blogilates Summer Sculpt

Wednesday was when things really started getting interesting!

So if you’ve been following along with me for a while then you probably know that I like to run through my town’s cemetery. It’s just so calm and peaceful there. But one downside is that I live in a super small town so the cemetery is also super small. I think the road that goes through it is close to a quarter of a mile all the way around? Something like that. But on the bright side, there is RARELY anyone else there. That’s one of the reasons I love run to through there.

But on Wednesday I accidentally stumbled upon a funeral. Oops!! I had to nope the fuck out of there real quick! Luckily they were just setting stuff up at that point, so I don’t think I actually ended up bothering anyone. Except for the dump truck driver who was coming in as I was going out. He had PLENTY of room on that road but he wouldn’t budge out of the middle of the road and therefore forced me onto the grass and over someone’s grave. Running over someone’s grave feels a little bit wrong, but it was that or need a grave of my own so πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Anyway, I’m glad I didn’t disturb any mourners. I feel like running through a funeral would be super rude. Hence why I got out of there ASAP. Hahaha the rest of my run was a lot less eventful and honestly that was for the best! πŸ˜‚ 5 more miles in the bank!!

Thursday:

  • Rest day

Thursday was supposed to be a cross training day but whatever. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ I ended up doing some serious Pokemon Go-ing instead (by walking my dogs around the neighborhood πŸ˜‰). Then I hung out with all of my puppies in the backyard for a while.

That afternoon Luke and his brothers went golfing so I had to babysit my brother-in-laws kids. It’s not that I don’t like his kids or anything, but I would have rather gone golfing. πŸ˜‚ But they wanted to do a brother thing or whatever, so it’s all good. Haha I got to golf on Friday anyway.

Friday:

  • 6 miles
  • 17 holes of golf

On Friday I fell.

About .2 miles into my run. 🀣

Honestly, the fact that I fell isn’t super surprising. I am a HUGE klutz. I’ve injured myself in a lot weirder ways than tripping over a pothole while on the run.

What’s really surprising is that it took me this long to do it! I’ve never actually fallen while on a run before! The roads in my town are pretty shitty, but I’m usually really good at navigating my way around them. Not today though. I caught my foot in a particularly bad pothole while making sure I wasn’t going to get hit by a car coming from the cross street and then I went down! Lol not too bad though. All I did was scrape my knees. And luckily the endorphins from running finally kicked in at around 3 miles so they only really hurt for half of the run.

And this, my friends, is why my husband won’t let me use ladders. Or mow the lawn. And has seriously questioned whether or not I should have access to sharp objects. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Honestly though it could have been a lot worse so obviously I’m glad it wasn’t!

After I finished my run I ate a snack, took a shower, tended to my wounds, and then Luke called to tell me that he had an interesting day at work, that he left early, and that we were going golfing. So we did. πŸ˜‚

But only after we went to the sprint store. He wanted to get his brother a phone since he is starting college after this summer and Sprint had a bit one get one free iPhone deal going on. So my phone got upgraded from an iPhone 8 to a Xr and my brother-in-law got iOS first real phone! Fun stuff! πŸ˜„

Hahaha Friday was definitely an eventful day!

Saturday:

  • 6 miles

On Saturday I found a turtle friend!! 🐒

But turtle friend was in the middle of the road, so it got moved to the grass so that it wouldn’t get run over by a car. Some people will go out of the way to run over turtles/snakes/frogs and that just makes me so mad. Like, what’s the point?!?😑

But anyway, I hope this one made it to wherever it was going. It was gone by the time I started my second lap of the neighborhood, so I like to think that it did. 😊

So yeah. 6 more miles in the leg bank and the official end to me very interesting week of running. πŸ˜‚

Sunday:

  • rest day

A well earned rest day at that! I KILLED it this week! πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

Hit my mileage goal, mostly stuck to the Blogilates Summer Sculpt Challenge (but obviously shit happens and running is more important, so some days things get switched around or just not done at all. But I’m still doing it and that’s all that matters .πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ), had a few very interesting runs; I almost crashed a funereal and I took a tumble. But all in all, it was a great week!

So, today was super chill! I dyed my hair, did a bunch of reading, and I plan on doing some nice stretching this evening!

Total Weekly Mileage: 22

I hope you had a great week!

Happy Global Running Day!

So this is actually just a short little thing I shared on Instagram for Global Running Day, but I wanted to share it here too. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»

I don’t have the most exciting or inspiring running story. I started late in 2013 mostly as a way to continue losing weight and it just kinda stuck.

I’m certainly not a great runner. Most of my runs are done at a turtle’s pace with some walking thrown in. Sometimes a lot of walking.πŸ’πŸ˜‚

Running usually doesn’t take me to interesting places with incredible views (this photo from my very first trail race in Colorado is one of the few exceptionsπŸ˜‰). Most of my running happens right out my front door, around my small town.

To me, none of that is really important though. Sure, I’d love to be able to run faster, experience more exciting places, and who doesn’t want to be a more inspiring person? But what really matters is the act of running itself. It helps keep me relatively healthy and fit, sure. But it’s so much more than that.

It’s waking up early and watching the sun rise. It’s trying to catch snowflakes on your tongue without falling flat on your face. It’s trying to outrun a summer thunderstorm. Watching the leaves change in the fall. Knowing where all of the neighborhood dogs and cats live. It’s knowing most of the people within a 3 mile radius of your house by sight if not by name, and knowing the general ongoings in your neighborhood.

It’s the feeling of camaraderie when you see another runner on your usual route. It’s the feeling of crossing a finish line that you worked so hard to get to. It’s early mornings and oatmeal, blisters and black toenails, sweat and determination, and having absolutely no fear of port-o-potties. πŸ˜‰

So yeah, I’m not the best, fastest, or most inspiring runner. But running has changed who I am in a fundamental way and I couldn’t be any happier about that. I’ll take my mediocre running self over my non-running self any day!

And a big thank you to everyone who follows along and supports me on my crazy running journey! You guys are the best! πŸ’œ

Happy Global Running Day! πŸŒŽπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ
