Back To Scheduled Programming!

Well, sorta.

I really wanted to run this morning, especially considering the fact that I only ran once while I was in Florida, but we are currently under a heat advisory that started at 3:00 this morning and the air quality here in Kansas is in the yellow or moderate zone today. Not a good combination for an asthmatic like myself…Plus I spent the whole Florida trip around 2 very heavy smokers and that always ends up giving me trouble. Especially when I have to be around it for an extended period of time. So I decided that running probably wouldn’t be the best idea for me today. Hopefully by tomorrow the heat advisory will be over and my lungs will feel a little bit better, but I guess we shall see.

I did still get up relatively early this morning though. My garden is in not so great shape after not being tended to for 10 days. The grass is super high, the weeds are abundant, my zucchini died (sad face), whats left of my lettuce is dying, and everything else just needed watered. Badly. So I did as much weeding as I could (it was starting to get really hot and I was struggling haha, it’s a very good thing I did not run today), watered everything, and tried pulling as much grass as I could. I was going to weed eat it, but my weed eater’s battery was completely dead and it didn’t charge fast enough, so unfortunately I had to leave most of the grass out there super high for today. I should be able to get that all taken care of tomorrow though. And usually I’d have the rabbits out there to help keep the grass mowed down, but I can’t leave them outside when it’s this hot. They would absolutely fry out there. But I did let them eat some grass while I was out there working this morning, I just had to bring them in when I called it a day.

img_4612

My first watermelon of the year!

While I was out there I did pick 10 HUUUGE cucumbers (they sat out there for too long, but surprisingly enough they really aren’t that bitter, which is really weird because they usually are if you let them get too big), my first watermelon of the year (and there are a few more growing out there and I’m so super stoked about that!), and 5 banana peppers. And my tomato plants are covered with some very nice looking green tomatoes, so I’ll be having an abundance of tomatoes very shortly! πŸ™‚ But I’m still super upset about losing my zucchini plant…Zucchini is my favorite. 😦

img_4620

As you can see, I took this photo before I found the rest of the cucumbers. πŸ˜‰

But anyways, I feel a lot better now that I’ve been able to tend to the garden, even if it was just a little bit, but now I really need to get to work on cleaning up the house. It was an absolute disaster when Luke and I got home yesterday. My brother in law’s dog’s hair was everywhere (I swear his dog sheds more than all 3 of mine combined) and that sure didn’t help my whole asthma issue. There were plates and dishes and silverware everywhere, along with some trash. I don’t thing either of our brothers did the dishes while we were gone (there are so many dishes that need done…) and I’m pretty sure they only got the mail once (but I’ll get to that in a second). My brother had brought his cat with him and he pooped all over the house (I also think he peed in a few places but I haven’t quite figured that out yet). And the floor is just covered in mud. It wasn’t a good situation to come home to.

Luckily I did get a lot of that stuff taken care of yesterday while Luke went out to coffee with one of his friends, so really now all I need to do is vacuum again and mop the whole house, clean off the kitchen counter, and do laundry. We have so much laundry haha. But I’m working on it. πŸ™‚

But anyway, I think our brothers only got the mail once, because Luke’s brother brought in an important piece of mail that he’d been waiting on and that got here while we were gone. And my brother brought in a hoodie that I had ordered from Adeline Records (which is a record company that Billie Joe Armstrong, along with a few other musicians started/own) and literally got to the house an hour after we left the house haha. But other than that, there was quite a bit of mail shoved into our mailbox haha. Oh well, Luke and I are just happy that the stuff we had been waiting on got here and then made it into the house safely. πŸ™‚

img_4636

Now I just wish it was actually cold enough to wear my super spiffy new hoodie! But unfortunately it’s going to be a while before that happens.

Anyway, along with the usual bills, news papers, and junk mail, my second ever Stride Box was shoved into our mailbox!

57a5e533-adeb-4e55-a4a7-49ccc4c62d34

Yay! I’m so super excited about StrideBox you guys! Not gonna lie, I’ve always been kinda skeptical about the whole subscription box thing, but StrideBox has definitely won me over in just two months! So far it’s come with some pretty awesome stuff! I especially like the fact that it comes with things that I probably wouldn’t actually buy if I just saw them at the store, so its a great way for me to try out new things, and then if I like whatever it is that I’ve tired I’ll know exactly what it is! And for only $15 a month (and that includes shipping!!) I thing it’s totally worth it and I would definitively recommend any runner to at least check them out. πŸ™‚

Anyway, I guess I need to quit procrastinating and finish cleaning up the house, but first I need to drink my tea out of my fancy, new Florida mug, and maybe read a few articles from this months issue of Runner’s World haha. πŸ˜‰

I hope you’re having a great Tuesday!

Florida Vacation: Day 2

We were gone until 10:30 pm last night, so I didn’t have a chance to write out a blog post about what we did yesterday, so there may be two Florida vacation recaps today. πŸ˜„

Anyway, before we did anything yesterday I got a very hot, very sweaty, and very slow 5k done. πŸ˜„

On Sunday my sister in law gave me one of those virtual 5k packet thingys. Apparently she’s subscribed to FlexItPink and gets a new virtual race every month, but they had sent her 2 of the same one, so she gave one to me!

Not gonna lie, I’m not into the whole virtual race thing. I mean, if I’m gonna pay for a race, I want to get the whole race day deal, ya know? Closed course, water stations, other runners, and actual finish line, and all of that good stuff. Haha I’m actually not trying to diss virtual races or anything like that though. If you enjoy them that’s cool! It’s just not my thing…. Anyway, I figured I might as well “participate” in this virtual thingy since my sister in law was kind enough to give it to me. Plus it was kinda nice to have a little bit of extra motivation to get out the door and do a 5k in this crazy hot, crazy humid Florida weather. πŸ˜„

So yeah, I’m pretty sure this ended up being the slowest 5k that I’ve ever done in my life.  It took me almost 45 minutes to get it done. But the weather was just killer today. It was 77 degrees with 94% humidity when I started and it only got hotter as time went on. But I did it and that’s all that matters! πŸ˜„ And the views were really nice, so that was a plus!

After my run I showered ate, and then basically just waited for everyone else to wake up so we could start our day. The plan for yesterday was to go to the beach, so I was very excited about that.

Luke got up around 8:40 am, so at least I had someone to hang out with at that point haha. Everyone else started getting up and moving around 9:30-10 ish. Haha all of these super late mornings are kinda driving me crazy. I’m used to getting up at starting my day around 7 am (or earlier if I’m running that day), so sitting around and doing nothing all morning is kinda weird for me.

Anyway, around 11 am Luke’s mom had to run to Walgreens and once she got back we all got packed up, slathered in sun screen (haha Luke and I don’t want to burn before we get tattooed), and ready, and packed. That was a whole ordeal. But we were finally on our way to the beach at 2 pm.

But then we got stuck in traffic…What should have been a two hour car ride ended up being a 3 hour car ride. But we did finally make it to the beach!

Unfortunately this beach trip didn’t exactly go well. Everyone was moody after being in that damn bus again (I mean we spent 20 hours on it just a few days ago), there was trash everywhere, the water in the swimming area was only waist high, and there weren’t really any waves to play in. When we were told we were going to a beach we thought that meant something like cocoa beach or clear water beach where you’re actually put in the ocean. This beach was in a man made cove and it was no fun…

Anyway we all stood in the water for maybe 30-40 minutes, then we sat on shore for a while, packed up the bus, and spent waaay to much time trying to get food, gas, and then back to the house. Haha yesterday wasn’t exactly fun, but at least I ran. πŸ˜€

Hopefully today will go a little better, but so far I’m not sure. It’s 9:40 am and people are just starting to get up. Oh well, I guess we shall see.

Happy Independence Day! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Aaaand We’re Off!!Β

I typed this in on my phone while riding in a van/mini bus kinda thing with 10 other people, so please forgive me if this isn’t the most thought out or well written blog post ever. But seeing as we’re going to be in this van for awhile I figured I might as well do some blogging. πŸ˜‰ Also, this is probably going to be a super long post, but I’ve got time to kill and a lot to talk about, so just hang in there with me, if you can. πŸ™‚

So today has basically been a whirlwind of pre-vacation excitement, anxiety, and general rushing around trying to get everything in order so that this crazy long (14-16 hour to be exact) road trip goes as smoothly as possible. But we’ll get to all of that in a minute. Because all of the pre-vacation excitement actually started yesterday. At least for Luke and I, that is.

So my day yesterday began with thunderstorms. More specifically, it began with me waking up at 6 am and then sitting around for 2 hours waiting out a thunderstorm so I could get one last pre-road trip run done. That didn’t end up going as planned though (does it ever though πŸ˜‰ ).

The weather was a little bit better whenever I hit the road, although it was still raining pretty hard and there was the occasional flash of lighting. But as I ran the wind started to pick up, it started raining even harder, and the lighting was getting much more frequent and a little more dangerous. I had planned to go for 6 miles, but by 4.22 miles I was back in front of my house, and I figured I had pressed my luck enough, so I decided to stop there. I mean, that was probably a good decision. Cutting my run short was definitely better than getting struck by lighting or hit by a falling tree limb or something. πŸ™‚

img_4359

I literally could have not been any more wet after this run. I basically looked like I had jumped into a pool, fully clothed, shoes and all. Haha it was fun though. πŸ™‚

After my swim…er, I mean run, I showered, ate, and got to work on all of the last minute things that I had needed to get done. I had basically checked out this week and got very little of the things that I had needed to get done until the very last minute. But in all fairness, it’s really hard to do anything when you know in just a few days you’re going to be on a beach hanging out with family haha.

First and foremost, I finished packing our suitcase. I swear that has been the most stressful part of this vacation so far! It’s just so hard because you can’t pack certain things like deodorant, or your tooth brush, because obviously you’re going to need those things before you leave. And then I spent a lot of time second guessing myself. Like, am I really going to need all of these shorts? Probably not, but then again, what if something happens and one pair gets super dirty and I don’t have an extra pair. Or am I really going to need these pants? I mean, we’re going to be in Florida, but you never know…After much debate, I finally got it done and I think we have everything that we’re going to need.

After that was taken care of I packed up my “carry on” bag for the drive down to Florida. Yeah, like 90% of what I packed is food, but I mean, what else was I supposed to bring on the car ride? And now I won’t have to worry about shady gas station food, so there’s that! πŸ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

Once I was 100% sure that Luke and I both had everything that we needed I started getting things in the house in order for my brother. He’s going to be staying here and taking care of our zoo while we’re gone. I’m so great full that I have people that I can rely on to take care of all of my critters while I’m away, but oh man I miss them already and I’m worried that they’re going to give my brother a hard time…I wrote him a list of everything that he needs to take care of and told him to text me if he has questions, but I’m still gonna worry. Haha jeez, you’d swear I was talking about leaving kids behind or something!

Anyway, when Luke got home from work he surprised me with a fancy new toy! I had been talking about how I wanted a Garmin Virb because they look so super neat, so he got me one just in time for our trip! So I spent a good majority of the evening messing around with that.

img_4373

Alrighty then continuing on with last night’s shenanigans, my brother got to my house at around 11 pm (apparently he fell asleep in the middle of the day and didn’t end up leaving at noon like he wanted to. Haha but what else can you expect from an 18 year old, I guess. πŸ˜‰ ). So once he got to my house I explained what he needed to do, showed him all of the food we bough him and the list I made him, and then Luke and I were off to bed. Waaay later than we should have been, but whatever.

Except it wasn’t exactly whatever, because hearing Luke’s alarm go off at 5:45 am was literally the worst thing ever…but we had things to do and places to be, so it couldn’t be helped, I suppose.

Luckily we had everything pretty much taken care of and ready to go, so we were on the road to Illinois at about 6:30 am. When we were about 2 hours away we had to stop for food and coffee, because we were both dying haha. We were good after we had done food/caffeine in us though. πŸ˜„

Anyway, we made it to my grandma’s house a little after 11 am. Luke went to his dad’s house to hang out with him and his brothers who are not going to Florida with us (this is an event for his mom’s side of the family) and I stayed with my grandma. She, my Uncle Ken, and I all hung out for a while, we played with my uncles new 7 month old puppy, and then we got pizza for lunch. πŸ˜„

Then at around 3 pm, my Auntie (my grandma’s sister, so my great aunt) and my Uncle Pa (my great uncle) showed up at my grandma’s house. That was a really nice surprise! I haven’t seen them in a while so it was really nice to be able to talk with them for a little bit.

So they left a little before 4, and Luke got back to my grandma’s at 4:30, and from there we headed to his grandma’s house to load up the van. So we did that (and oh man that was an ordeal), ate dinner, hung out for a while, and then were finally on the road by 8 pm.

Anyway, it’s about 8:40 pm now and we’re all already bored, so this is definitely going to be a long trip….

I’ll try to keep you updated on all of our Florida adventures, but I promise nothing! πŸ˜‰

Thursday Things

The weather has been…well, I was going to say crazy, but I suppose it’s actually pretty typical for the Midwest haha. All week we’ve been alternating between sunny and storming. Seriously, one minute it will be absolutely beautiful outside but then the next it will be pouring down rain. But like I said, that’s pretty typical around here during this time of year.

What wasn’t exactly typical was the amount of hail that we got on Tuesday. It for realΒ poured down hail for 2-3 minutes. It wasn’t the biggest hail I’ve ever seen, but it was most definitely the largest quantity of hail I’ve ever witnessed falling from the sky.

img_3739

This was taken 10 or 15 minutes after the storm had stopped so a lot of it had already melted. But there was still quite a bit of it on the ground.

Luckily after the hail storm on Tuesday we’ve only had a bunch of rain and scattered storms. I don’t know if my garden could recover from another beating from hail like that. A lot of my plant’s have holes in the leaves and are looking a little beat up, but they are recovering which is good. πŸ™‚

After a short run yesterday, I spent quite a bit of time tending to my poor injured plants. I pulled off broken leaves and branches, pulled flowers off of my tomato plants and little tiny cucumbers from my cucumber plants (the plant’s aren’t big enough for me to want them to be producing anything yet). I also did a bit of tilling andΒ a bunchΒ of weeding.

img_3748

The joys of gardening. πŸ™‚

Our lawn mower can’t really fit into our garden plot so that means I’m doing a lot of grass pulling in and around my little garden plots, and along the fence that we share with our neighbor as well. Eventually I got tired of grass pulling, so I decided to kill like, three birds with one stone, and move the rabbit hutch into the garden. When Luke and I built the rabbit hutch, we made it without a bottom so that we could move it around the yard and the rabbits could eat as much grass as they wanted. So by moving it into the garden, the rabbits will get to eat as much grass as they want, their poop will fertilize the ground wherever they are (bunny poop makes GREAT fertilizer!), and the grass in the garden will get mowed down. So it’s a win win win situation. πŸ™‚ Well, it would be if I could keep them out there for more than a few hours at a time. All this rain has kinda put a damper on that situation, but eventually it’ll all work out.

img_3743

Finn’s not a fan of his rabbits being separated from him by a fence.

After all the work I put into the garden yesterday, I woke up super sore pretty much everywhere this morning. Especially in my upper back and triceps. That’s ok though, I could definitely use some more upper body strength anyway. πŸ˜‰ And even though I haven’t exactly been doing a lot of running lately, Thursday’s are usually my rest days, so that worked out quite nicely. πŸ™‚

So anyway, I spent my rest day dyeing my hair (something I’ve been procrastination for far too long), attempting to get rid of some of the mud that’s taken over my house, playing with the dogs, waiting for my package from Honey Stinger to get here, signed up for a nifty running challenge for the month of June that I saw on Instagram, and thought about my plans for running in general this summer.

img_3756

This is a 3+ hour process, so no it’s no wonder than I put it off until IΒ absolutelyΒ have to do it. πŸ˜‰

Whenever I’m in the process of dyeing my hair, it’s kinda hard for me to do any kind of workout because the dye would just get everywhere, so that was pretty much out of the question all afternoon. But I can usually do most of my usual chores without any issues. SoΒ I didn’t exactly get the house completely clean, but I’ve definitely made some progress at ridding the dirt and mud from the floor and that’s a step in the right direction.

I walked Finn this morning because he was being a little spaz but I didn’t get a chance to walk Lily or Finn since who wants to walk around their neighborhood with bleach in their hair? Plus I would imagine that dust, dirt, and other grossness would stick to it, and that would be no bueno. So we played a bunch of fetch instead and then they went absolutely banana’s when the Fedex guy bearing my package from Honey Stinger came by. Haha my dog absolutely hate Fedex, UPS, and our mail lady. I always feel bad because none of those people stop and wait for me to answer the door anymore. They just leave packages on the porch. I don’t blame them though. I mean, my dogs sound vicious when they think their territory or people are under any kind of threat.

Anyway, the Fedex guy got here around 4:45 pm and I was super excited to see him, well you know, briefly because they never hang around long because of the dogs. But anyway, I’ve been super stoked about the stuff I ordered from Honey stinger! πŸ™‚ I finally got my hands on a box of one of the new flavors of waffles and I can’t wait to try it! I love mint chocolate anything, so I’m sure it will be right up my alley. πŸ™‚ I actually thought about trying both new flavors, but I wasn’t feeling that adventurous, so I opted for my two usual favorite Honey Stinger waffle flavors; chocolate and ginger snap. I also got me a thing of honey, because I can always use more honey, and a draw string back pack. Mostly because I needed to go over $50 to get free shipping and I was already super close and it was pretty cheap, but I also figured it would come in handy for the trip to Florida that we are taking with Luke’s family in July (and eventually I’ll write a post talking about our Florida plans, but today is not that day πŸ˜‰ ). So yeah, I’m super duper excited about all of that! Now I’m all stocked up on fuel for the summer and the beginning of half marathon training, which starts later in July! Yay!

Processed with Rookie Cam

As far as my running goes, well, it hasn’t been all that great. Between being sick, traveling to Illinois, a week long anxiety attack thing (another post for another day), and a lack of motivation now that it’s getting pretty hot and humid out, I only ran a total of 30.59 miles for the month of May. That’s really sad. Especially since I’ve been trying (and miserably failing) to really up my weekly and monthly mileage.

So this morning on Instagram, someone had posted about one of these challengeville challenges. I thought they sounded like a lot of fun, so I looked through them all, decided that the TinMan would be perfect for me! Mostly because I’ve kinda been stuck at running 15-18 miles per week for what feels like forever, and this will obviously bump me up from that. Now I know that sounds like a big leap. Especially since I only covered 30.59 miles in May. But IΒ knowΒ I’m fit enough to do it, I’ve been running pretty consistently for almost 4 years now. I’ve just become complacent and lazy and haven’t actually pushed myself to really preform at my best for a while now. I need some external motivation to actually make me want to put in the effort to get more miles in, and I think this will be the perfect challenge to get me there!

img_3755

As for the rest of the summer, I’m hoping I’ll build up enough momentum with the TinMan challenge this month to get me through most of July. The first week July will be a little tricky though. That’s when our trip to Florida is and it sounds like Luke’s mom has a pretty full itinerary for us while we’re there. So I guess I’m just going to try to run as much as I can, whenever I can, and hopefully that will be enough to keep the momentum going until I start my half marathon training plan that starts on July 23rd. I suppose that basically covers my running plans for this summer. Here’s hoping I’ll actually be able to keep up with this challenge and that I’ll start half marathon training feeling fit, happy, and injury free!

So speaking of half marathon training, I still haven’t signed up for the race I want to run this year haha. I’m planning on doing that very soon though. Hopefully I’ll beat the price increase, but at this point I’m not sure exactly when I’ll have the money to register. I’m also still not sure if my sister wants to run it with me or not. I sure hope she decides to. I think we’d both have lots of fun! Although if she does decide to run it with me, I’d like to do a few training runs with her so we can get a feel of what it would be like to run with each other. We’ve seriously never been on a run together! Actually accomplishing that may be a little tricky though, since now she lives 8 hours away from me in Colorado. But I suppose we’ve still got a little bit of time to work all of that out (if she even decides to run the race with me that is), this half marathon isn’t until November after all. πŸ™‚

So I’ve gotta say, I really enjoy writing these “Thursday Things” posts. It gives me a chance to go on and on about pretty much anything and everything that I’ve been up to or that’s on my mind and I think that’s a lot of fun! But that means that sometimes these posts end up being kinda long and I’m not sure how you guys feel about that. I mean, I enjoy reading blog posts that are short, sweet, and to the point, but I think I like longer, more detailed posts even better! I guess I’m just nosy like that. πŸ™‚

But for now that’s really all I’ve got to talk about for today.

Wishing you all the very best for your running goals, everyday adventures, and any of your other goals and challenges in life!

~Ashley

May 22nd, 2017

Whew, we got a lot done in my mom and dad’s house yesterday! We got a lot of trash cleaned up and burned so that was good. I was in charge of keeping the fire burning and under control, and I like to think I did s good job! Haha and I ended the day super dirty and tired!

So yeah, I ended up sleeping super well last night, and woke up feeling pretty good this morning! I had some coffee and toast, then hung out and watched the news with my grandma and uncle (he’s living with my grandma right now).

Anyway, around 11 am my brother came here in my moms car, so we could run to the bank, get gas, pick up some food, and then head back to my mom and dad’s to get back to work. There wasn’t as much to do today. I burned some more stuff and picked up trash around the yard.

Around 2 pm, I decided trying to run would be s good idea. I mean, it was almost the hottest part of the day (it was 74 degrees), the sun was out, and there isn’t much shade out on these back country roads. Yeah, great idea…
So, about halfway through I was hot, tired, and crazy thirsty, so I had to text my mom and ask her to bring me Gatorade, which she did. Thank goodness for that! After a few long gupls of that I felt a lot better. I ended up covering 3 miles, which is about half a mile farther than I though I ran, so that was a pleasant surprise. πŸ™‚

After my run, my mom, dad, and I hung out on their front porch for a little bit, then my dad and brother had to get back to working on a truck, but my mom and I didn’t have much else to do so we went back to my grandma’s house for dinner.

Now I’m full of pot roast and mashed potatoes, and my mom, grandma, and I are probably going to hang out here for the rest of the night.

Happy Monsay!

Good Bye Cold From Hell, Friday’s Gardening Adventures, And Other Saturday Stuff

As of today I think I can say I am finally over the cold from hell! Yay!!! Not gonna lie, I still have a little bit of a cough, but other than that I feel sooo much better! πŸ™‚

So Luke and I have been incredibly productive this weekend. This week was a short week for him (he gets every other Friday off), so we hardcore took advantage of that.

First thing Friday morning we took the dogs to the park to let them burn off some energy. While we were there we learned just how possessive Finn has become of us. He didn’t want any other dog (besides Lily and Dean of course) to get near us. At one point Luke was petting some dog we didn’t know, so Finn kinda knocked him off of Luke and then sat between his feet and growled anytime the other dog got too close. Haha I do like that he is being super protective of us, but at the same time that’s not exactly something he should be doing at the dog park. I think as he gets older he’ll mellow out a little bit and realize that the other dogs at the park aren’t going to hurt us.

img_3417

Once we got back from the dog park our gardening adventures began. I started weeding one of the little plots that we already have lettuce and broccoli in, while Luke attempted to start our garden tiller. After about half an hour of trying to start it and lots of cursing and searching on the internet, he declared that the tiller had shot shit and we needed to go rent one. So after a little more internet searching, he found a rental place that had a really good one that we could rent for 3 hours for $40. Not bad. So I had to abandon my weeding so that we could go pick it up.

Luckily the renal place was only 15 minutes from the house so we didn’t end up wasting too much of our time driving home and then back to the rental place with it. It actually only ended up taking Luke a little over an hour to get everything he wanted to till taken care of. That tiller was pretty freaking awesome and I have a feeling we’re going to be renting it again next year.

img_3421

After dropping the tiller back off at the rental place we had some supplies we needed to go buy. First we stopped at Walmart to get some house stuff that we needed. None if it was necessary for our gardening plans, but it was along the way and it made no sense not to stop there first haha. After Walmart we drove almost 40 minutes into Missouri to Johnson Farms, which is where we like to buy our plants. They’re pretty cheap as far as started plants go, non GMO, and locally grown, which is all super awesome! πŸ™‚ They also host the KC pumpkin run which I really really want to do this year! But that has absolutely nothing to do with anything that we did on Friday, so moving on. πŸ˜‰

We ended up getting yellow pear tomato plants, sweet yellow tomato plants, and “the best” tomato plants (the’re just your standard red tomatoes, but that’s what they were called and I thought it was neat), banana pepper plants, watermelon plants, zucchini plants, cucumber plants, mint, and a blueberry bush. The very nice cashier gave us a slight discount on the watermelon plants because they were a little sad looking, so that was nice, and all in all it only cost us about $32. So yeah, that’s why we really like Johnson farm. And Luke told me I should do the KC pumpkin run there this year, so hopefully I’ll be able to! πŸ˜‰

img_3422

So once we had the plants loaded into the car we started making our way to Tractor Supply for fence building materials. On our way there we ended up driving on the running with the cows half marathon course. I did the 5k last year and had a bunch of fun doing it, so when I saw the signs I got super excited haha. Luke asked me why I didn’t do it this year (the race was today, actually) and I’m not sure why I didn’t. I probably should have. Oh well, maybe next year.

Anyway, once we got to Tractor Supply, Luke didn’t like the T-posts that they had there and he wanted to see if we couldn’t get rabbit fence or chicken wire cheaper at Home Depot, so that was our next stop. Turns out that rabbit fence and chicken wire were both cheaper at Tractor Supply, so we didn’t get it at Home Depot. We did, however, get some landscape timbers to use for our fence post. So then we went back to Tractor Supply, decided that rabbit fence would work better for what we wanted to do, bought that, and then finally, 3 hours after we had left, we headed back home and got back to work.

Luke dug the post holes and stuck our “fence posts” in them while I planted everything. After I had gotten all of the plants in the ground I helped hold the rabbit fence in place while he secured it to the fence posts. Luckily that didn’t take too long, and once that was taken care of our garden was pretty much complete!

This is why we had to build a temporary fence. The dogs just will not stay out of the garden. Apparently Lily just likes to hang out amount the tomato and pepper plants haha.

So even thought our project is done, there’s still plenty of work that we need to do. That’s the problem with gardening, the work is literally never done. πŸ˜‰ But once the fence was built it was about 8 pm, so we decided to call it a day.

So when I got up this morning, it was very reluctantly because I knew I had a lot to do today and I was sore from all the hard work Luke and I did yesterday. Plus I needed to run. Since I had been sick I hadn’t been able to do much running, so now I need to start slowly getting back into the swing of things. Unfortunately running didn’t exactly sound all that appealing this morning, so I made a little deal with myself. I’d run a mile, finish weeding the garden plot that I had started weeding yesterday, then call it good as far as outdoor activities go for today. So that’s what I did.

Running actually did feel kinda good and it helped work some of the soreness out of my muscles, but I still didn’t feel like going for more than a mile. Still better than nothing though. πŸ™‚

Once that was out of the way I got my weeding done, showered, got a little bit of housework done, then took a nap. Oh man, yesterday really wore me out!

It’s looking pretty good out there!

Later in the afternoon Luke and I went grocery shopping. We got in and out of Aldi with all of our usual supplies in 18 minutes. We basically ran through the store grabbing what we needed. It was great haha!

Now we’re hanging out in the back porch, drinking beer, and enjoying the nice weather.

I hope you’ve had a super Saturday!

Thursday Things

Happy Star Wars Day! I feel pretty darn good today! Probably because I didn’t skip out on my morning cup of coffee haha. I very much have a caffeine problem

Anyway, I made another vlog thing this morning before I went for my run! It’s just another “10 things about me” deal, but go check it out if you haven’t read any of the “10 facts/things/randomness about me” posts that I have floating around here on this blog. Or if you just want to listen to me talk and watch me be super awkward, that’s cool too. πŸ˜‰

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I can get to the other stuff I want to talk about!

I definitely should have woken up earlier, waited to record that vlog, and gotten out on the road earlier. It was warm and sunny today and, as you may know, that tends to cause problems for me. Especially when the suns been shining for a while and the pavement heats ups and you start getting heat thrown at you from above and below. Luckily that hasn’t beenΒ tooΒ bad yet, but as it gets warmer it will. Not looking forward to that…

I had kinda wanted to get in 4-5 miles today, but I stopped at 3 because I was feeling hot and miserable. Still though, it was a pretty decent run. Aside from getting hot, I don’t have anything to complain about. πŸ™‚ Not gonna lie though, it was kinda nice to see the sun for a change.

The Midwest got hit with a CRAZY amount of rain over the past several days. In the St. Louis area a bunch of roads are completely flooded, bridges have been washed away, like, all of my friends from there have flooded basements, a lot of people have lost power, and some people haven’t even been able to get to work because the Mississippi river is so high and the roads are so bad. Luckily it hasn’t been that bad here in Kansas. For the most part everything around here is just wet, muddy, and gross. And we’re not suppose to get anymore rain until next Thursday, so everything around here should start drying out. πŸ™‚

Eww not looking forward to those day’s in the 80’s though…

The one bright side to all of the rain is that it’s been great for my peach tree! My little peaches are getting bigger and bigger every day! πŸ™‚ I was a little worried about the rest of my garden though. My little plots of lettuce, broccoli, and brussle sprouts got a little bit flooded. Luckily all of the plants seem like the’re recovering from that now that a good majority of the water in their plots have dried up. Now I really need to pull some weeds and they should be golden! I’ll probably work on that tomorrow though, I plan on getting up earlier and getting more done then. And maybe once my garden plots are all weeded and look nice, I’ll post a little garden update.

Anyway, I guess that’s all I’ve got for today. I need to go do some blogilates and then attempt to clean up the house a little bit. I’m not even going to bother with my muddy floors yet though, because the dogs are all filthy. I guess I’ll try to take care of all that stuff tomorrow as well.
