Another Long Drive To Colorado

(I wrote this whole post on my phone, so the photos are probably going to end up being stacked and weird, instead of in nice little collages. Sorry about that.)

Alrighty! Like I said this morning, I ended up going to Colorado with my dad! He was in Illinois taking care of some stuff and stopped by my house last night on his way back home. He asked me if I was going with him, and obviously I did! 😊

So we left my house this morning a little before 10 am, after making sure all of the stuff on his trailer was secure. Haha and of course I’m repping all of my Honey Stinger gear. πŸ˜‰ I’ve also got some waffles packed for any running/hiking/adventuring that we end up doing.

So he drove for a while, stopped to get gas, saw a herd of zebras at one point (I’m not even kidding! It was crazy seeing a bunch of zebras in the middle of nowhere Kansas is) and we decided we were going to stop at Toto’s Tacos and a Wizard of Oz museum that we had tried to go to last time we went to Colorado together, but both were closed. It took us about an hour to get there, but we finally got our Toto’s Tacos and got to wander around the museum for a while.

^^ That is a guaco taco. It had so much guacamole on it. It was amazing!

After we had our full of the Wizard of Oz museum, we went to the historic Beecher Bible and Rifle Church. Haha we actually went there the last time we made this trip together, but it’s a cool church so we went back again. πŸ˜„

After that we did more driving. Well, my dad did all of the driving. I’m just along for the ride haha, but in all fairness, he’s driving a company truck so I can’t drive it. We spent a few hours looking at the rural scenery and pointing out neat stuff to each other. But around 4 ish we had to stop at a gas station so my dad could nap for a bit. We were both pretty tired at that point (although I didn’t nap haha). Me because riding in a car makes me super tired, and him because he did a lot of work in Illinois. But we were back on the road around 5 pm.

Around 6:40 we stopped in Wakeeney (I probably spelled that wrong) Kansas to get gas, snacks, and to go to a park with an old plane in it. Haha last time my dad and I made this trip together he made me get in it, so obviously I had to do it again. πŸ˜‰ Yeah, I definitely wasn’t supposed to be climbing in it haha.

After that little adventure we decided we were going to take the scenic route to my dad’s apartment. It added about an extra hour to the trip, and it was already pretty dark, but neither of us were in a hurry to get anywhere. πŸ˜„

After we stopped there we only stopped one more time for gas. Other than that we just continued onto Longmont Colorado. We finally got there at about 11:40 pm (12:40 pm in central time, which is the time zone we started the day in haha), ate a little bit, talked to my mom and brother, and now we’re getting ready for bed! I’m very ready for bed haha.

Ice Ice Baby

Yesterday the high was 51 degrees and my backyard was a huge, gross, muddy mess. Which means my dogs turned into nasty mud monsters, and were literally covered head to toe in mud. Fun times. πŸ˜‰

img_8851.jpg

You can’t really tell in the photo, but trust me Finn (pictured here) and Dean are so bad that they’ve been sleeping in the computer room to keep mud out of our bedroom. Lily doesn’t spend as much time outside as them, so she’s not really that bad. πŸ™‚

This morning when I woke up, it was pouring down rain, which gradually turned into snow/ice. Ah the joy’s of living in the Midwest haha. But on the bright side, all of the mud in my backyard is frozen, so at least that’s something.

Now, I know it sounds like I’m complaining but I’m kinda not hahaha. Well, I am complaining about the mud, but that’s beside the point. πŸ˜‰ But if you’ve been following me for a while now you probably know that I’m actually a big fan of winter weather. But the problem is ice tends to be a little more dangerous than snow. So with that in mind I tried to get out and get a run done before the rain really turned into ice and before the roads started to freeze over. I was not successful haha.

img_8869

I also realized that most of my winter running gear is super dark. That’s not really a big deal if it’s sunny and clear out, but it was super grey and rainy/icy today. So I had to wear my blaze orange hat over my winter hat. Haha I’m probablyΒ  the coolest runner you”ll see today. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, after I got geared up I spent 10 minutes on my stationary bike just to warm up a little bit, got out the door and immediately slipped on the ice on my front porch. That was when I knew I was in for an interesting run! If you can really call it a run that is! I spent most of my time slipping and sliding all over the place, walking over really icy spots, and stopping for cars. Haha it was kinda fun though, battling the ice and eventually the crazy gusts of wind. AlthoughΒ  thanks to the wind a basketball hoop that’s at the end of a street and therefore right next to the road almost fell right on top of me. That could have been bad. Luckily I got out of the way in time. πŸ™‚ And the whole time I was out there the temperture kept dropping and the road just got worse and worse, so by the time I made it to my driveway I called it good and quit, instead of making a point to hit exactly 4 miles like I usually would. Haha but I mean, that’s close enough. πŸ˜‰

img_8868

After my run I warmed up with some coffee, quickly cleaned my bathroom, and then warmed up even more with a nice, hot shower. I swear nothing beats a really hot shower after a cold, wet run. It felt amazing. πŸ™‚ After that I enjoyed a delicious bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, and now here we are! Feeling like a total bad ass for braving the ice, cold, and wind. Super cozy in a pair of fuzzy socks and my Longview Half hoodie. And just feeling all together awesome. Today is a good day. πŸ™‚

If you’re experiencing ice/snow/crazy winter weather, have fun but stay safe out there! Ice is no joke!!

Happy Thursday!

December 22nd, 2017

Holy cow you guys, we’re really getting down to the wire! It’s almost Christmas!!!

img_8515

I mean, Santa can definitely bring me six pack abs, right?!? Haha ok, maybe not. But a girl can dream! Maybe one day…. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, any last minute shoppers out there? I wouldn’t say that I am, but there are a few more things that need picked up for a few people. Nothing major though, for the most part Luke and I have all of our Christmas shopping done, the gifts are wrapped, and we are almost ready for go time!! But if you are a last minute shopper, or have a very picky runner friend in your life, a gift subscription to StrideBox might be the perfect last minute gift! You can still use the codeΒ RunningRebel10Β to get 10% off a 3 or 6 month gift subscription, but only until the 24th!

img_8237-1

Anyway, we were pretty darn busy today! Although our major Christmas gifts have been bought we still had quite a bit to do to even get ready for the holiday. Since we saw my mom, dad, and brother, in Colorado for Thanksgiving, we’re going to be driving to Illinois to see Luke’s family and some of mine, and that takes a bit of prep work haha. Luke had to work until about 1:30 pm, but that ended up working out alright because I had to be at home all morning because we had plumbers here working on our gas line. It wasn’t up to code (and we knew that when we moved in actually haha) and the city is replacing gas lines all throughout the city and is also paying to have all of the houses that aren’t up to code fixed, so that it pretty neat. πŸ˜‰

So, they were here from about 8:15 this morning, until around 11:15.Β  So I kinda ended up stuck at the house during that time. It wasn’t that big of a deal though, it gave me time to work on some blog posts and get a little bit of pre Christmas trip cleaning done and organizing done. Luke got home just about the time that the plumbers were leaving and thus began our crazy afternoon of running around and getting stuff done. Haha except it wasn’t really all that crazy. Like I said, we still had a few things to pick up for people and a trip to walmart took care of that. After that we had to got to petco to get rabbit food and a new hammock for the ferrets, since they decided to tear theirs apart…After our shopping adventures were done we grabbed some lunch and headed back home.

img_8530

We also got this toy for the dogs, because why not make them look like alcoholics? πŸ˜‰

Once we got back we had to shove one rabbit into a cat carrier (she was not happy about that), wrap the other one up in a towel so she wouldn’t poop everywhere (we only have one cat carrier and the rabbits do not get along), leash up Lily and Dean, load everyone up in the car and head to the vet. Haha so, the vet office is like, for real a two minute walk from our house, so normally we’d just walk, but there was no way we’d be able to accomplish that with two dogs and two rabbits. But anyway, Lily and Dean were do for their shots (luckily we didn’t have to bring Finn too, he finished up his puppy shots earlier this year) and the rabbits needed to be weighed so we could get them topical flea treatments. Lily and Dean did fine, but they usually do. πŸ™‚ The rabbits on the other hand, were not at all thrilled with the whole experience haha.

After everyone was declared healthy and got their shots we dropped the rabbits off back home, got Finn, and took all three dogs to the dog park. It was an uneventful trip to the park, but at least they got to run around for a while. πŸ™‚

Finally, we got back home to stay at around 4 pm. We had to call the gas company to come turn our gas back on (which the plumbers had to turn off) because we weren’t here when they came to do it originally. It didn’t take too long for them to get here and turn it back on so that was nice, but our heater (which is the only gas appliance we have) still wouldn’t turn on. So Luke called the plumber, he said they’d be here in an hour to see what was up, but I guess he called the tech that was here today and it turns out he forgot to flip a power switch back on. So the plumber called me back, told me this, and told me he’d be here within the next hour or so to turn it back on. I sure hope he gets here soon. It’s pretty cold outside and it’s getting kinda cold inside now. Makes sense considering the heat hasn’t been on since 11 this morning…

img_8539

Whew! So it’s been a pretty busy day and I’m sooo ready to be done haha. Just gotta wait to get the heat situation fixed and I’ll finally be able to sit back and relax….and possibly hope on the stationary bike for a little bit hahaha. πŸ˜‰

I hope you’ve had a great Friday!!

Halfway Through The Streak, Two Year Blogging Anniversary, and A Few Other Things

Hello and happy Tuesday, friends!! πŸ™‚

As of today I’m officially half way through the Runner’s World winter run streak! Yay!!

So the first two-ish weeks of running at least a mile every single day was tough. I was tired and sore and getting out of bed was basically a huge ordeal. But now, 20 days later, my body has adjusted feels pretty good! I’m not so crazy tired and I’m no more sore than I’d usually be. So that’s a nice change. πŸ™‚

As long as I can keep this going through the Christmas eve/Christmas day adventures Luke and I will be having, since we’re driving to Illinois to spend time with our families, I definitely think I’m going to be able to finish this thing! Haha this is the 3rd year in a row that I’ve attempted it, so I’m pretty excited that I’m actually following through this year. πŸ™‚ And as of right now I plan on finishing day 40 on New Year’s Day and then letting the streak die after that. It’s been pretty interesting overcoming all of the obstacles that life and the holidays have presented and still getting my runs in, but oh man streaking is hard haha. I don’t thing I’ll ever be the person who runs every single day for 10 years or something crazy like that, and I’m a-ok about that!

As for today’s run and running in general over the past week, well, it’s not been great… Ever since my brother in law came to my house followed by his nasty chemical trail of vape cloud grossness, I’ve been coughing, hacking, wheezing, and having trouble running. Ugh I swear vapes are worse than cigarettes and are an asthmatics worst nightmare. And my brother in law has his head shoved too far up his ass to care or even consider the fact that his actions effect other people.

Ugh whatever. Can’t do anything about it now… Just gotta wait and hope that it doesn’t take too long for my lungs to recover and then I should be good to go again. And at the very least I’ve managed to keep up with the streak.

Anyways, back to today’s run. Well, it sucked and part of that was definitely my own fault. Some of you might know that when I was 13 I had an “old fashioned” appendectomy. Apparently now a days they either use lasers to take it out (at least I think it was laser haha) and that only requires a very small incision. Or they just give you antibiotics in hopes that they wont have to take it out at all. But I guess none of that would have mattered for me, because mine ruptured, I almost died, it was a whole thing, and I guess that’s why they had to do it the “old” way. Anyways, since I lack an appendix I have trouble digesting certain things. Mainly sea food and most leafy greens. But this morning I decided to take a gamble on that and put some spinach in my smoothie. I thought maybe if it wasn’t just whole spinach leafs it might be ok. Apparently not…

I ended up spending all morning laid up on my couch with a VERY hot heat pack, because that’s the only thing that helps the terrible cramps I get. Yeah, I won’t be making that mistake again. I still managed to get in a slightly painful mile though, because I AM A BADASS!! Or just really dumb. Probably just really dumb haha. πŸ˜‰ But that’s yet another thing that I’ve managed to overcome on this crazy streaking journey. If anything this is making me mentally stronger and that’s definitely something I need to work on!

So go me for getting my mile in! But now I’m going to end up feeling like shit all day haha. That always happens whenever I eat something I shouldn’t. And go figure the things I can’t eat are super healthy! Like, I can eat pretty much anything fried, that involves simple carbs, or covered in cheese, but I try to eat one of the healthiest vegetables ever and I end up in pain and feeling gross all day. Bodies are weird…

In other news, therunningrebel.com turns 2 today!

img_8333

That’s pretty freaking neat! Honestly I was really hesitant about starting a blog. I didn’t think I was interesting enough, or my story was good enough, or that I’m not a good enough runner so no one would be inspired by me or even be interested in my running journey, but oh boy was I wrong! I’ve met so many amazing people through this blog and the other social media accounts attached to it (and I’ve been doing a terrible job of keeping up with those people’s blogs and I’m really sorry about that!). People celebrate my accomplishments with me, remind me that setbacks are not failures, motivate me, inspire me, and have great conversations with me. For all of that I am eternally grateful! I’ve also had several people tell me that I’m inspiring (a word I honestly never thought would describe me) and that they appreciate that I post my mile paces, bad days, and things like that. And that is something I get! It can be super intimidating and even demoralizing whenever you’re scrolling through Instagram and seeing all of these incredible runners who are so much faster than you! It’s nice to know that there are people out there who run the same paces that you do and that everyone has bad days, and that all of that is ok!! πŸ™‚

I’ve also been given the opportunity to represent a few brands that I use and believe in as an ambassador and I just think that’s so cool! I’m part of the Honey Stinger Hive (my go to running and adventure fuel), Team Zensah (IΒ adoreΒ their compression socks), and the Stride Squad (thanks to StrideBox I’ve tried so many awesome new things that I never would have before!). I’m not gonna lie, I still feel really weird basically advertising for these brands here on this blog and other social media accounts, but these really are brands that I personally use and believe it. I would never be able to talk about something that I never used or didn’t like, or brands who don’t care about their customers, elite athletes, or ambassador teams.

So yeah, starting this blog opened up new opportunists for me, gave me a voice and a platform in which to use it, introduced me to all sorts of amazing people, and fully immersed me into the absolutely best part of the online running community. And for all of that I will always be grateful! Here’s to many more years of all of that!! πŸ™‚

That’s all I wanted to talk about today! I hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!

You’reΒ digestively challenged, very grateful, streaking friend,

~Ashley

Christmas Time Adventures

Holy moly! Luke and I have squeezed in lots of Christmas time fun into the past day and a half-is. It’s been awesome!!

Our Christmas time adventures started yesterday, after Luke got off of work. Apparently he ha been looking up Christmas light shows and displays all week, so that’s what we went to do last night. First we went to this neat-o light show thing that synced up to music that played on their radio station. That was pretty neat, but we only stayed for 3 or 4 songs because we had other places to be and other things to do. πŸ™‚

The second stop on our magical Christmas adventure last night was a park. By the time we got to said park it was completely dark outside, but we could see it from several block away because almost every single tree was covered in Christmas lights! Oh my gosh it was absolutely beautiful!! The park had a little paved path that went around a little lake so we walked around that and admired the views and the reflections on the lake. And poor Luke completely froze because it was 20 degrees. I however, was very much enjoying the cold. πŸ˜‰ Haha we both enjoyed it though. It was absolutely wonderful and both of our Christmas light viewing adventures were completely free, which is always a plus!

After our walk around the amazingly lit up park we stopped at a store to pick up some cookie dough and other snacks because I was in a Christmas-y mood and wanted to bake. Haha I didn’t really have time to do it from scratch like I would have liked, but gingerbread cookies are gingerbread cookies either way, so I was happy.

img_8217-1

While I baked my cookies Luke called his mom and we played a trivia game with her over the phone. Obviously we had to make a few changes to the rules since she wasn’t physically there, but we all ended up having a lot of fun. Then after that I kicked Luke’s butt at the game of life. Haha every time we play that game I end up beating him pretty badly, so that’s exciting. πŸ˜‰

img_8225-1

And after I totally won at the game of life it was off to bed for the two of us, because we had a shit ton of things to get done the next day (today).

So we woke up this morning at 8 am, which was probably a little later than we should have, and I promptly had to jump out of bed, run outside, and brought our trashcan and recycle bins out by the street. Our trash/recycling company is kinda unpredictable about what time they pick up our stuff and I absolutely had to have it out there because it was all pretty much overflowing haha. That doesn’t happen very often, but with all of the Christmas gifts, food, and whatnot, we ended up with a crazy amount of trash this week.

After I’d gotten that taken care of I had to run back inside and get dressed because we had a full day ahead of us. First we cleaned out Luke’s car and took it to walmart to get the oil changed. That took an excessively long amount of time for some reason, but whatever. While we were there we picked up some stuff we needed and contemplated what Christmas gifts we needed to get and for who. Once the car was finally done and our stuff was bought we were off to the mall, where we ended up spending a pretty good amount of the day, running around all sorts of different stores, trying to get everything we needed. Surprisingly enough it wasn’t a huge madhouse today! There were a lot of people there, but not as many as we’d thought there would be and it wasn’t super crazy, so that was nice. πŸ™‚

After the mall we headed to Bass Pro. to get a few more gifts and then to Target to get sharpies (because we desperately needed some, but had forgotten about them up until that point) and some food to hold us over until Monday. The plan was to go grocery shopping today, but the parking lot of the Aldi we shop at was completely packed and we didn’t feel like dealing with all of that haha. We did go to Tractor Supply to get dog food though, so you can see where our priorities lie. πŸ˜‰

Whew! All of that took a lot of time and effort! By the time we got home it was around 1:30 ish. Maybe a little after. Anyways, Luke wrapped all of the presents because he is a million times better at it than I am, while I put everything else we’d gotten away, and attempted to at least keep the house in some kind of decent order. That’s not exactly easy to do when you have gifts, boxes, wrapping paper, trash, and a plethora of other things lying around. All while 3 dogs and 2 cats are running around and getting in the way of everything. Oh, and one of those dogs (Finn), kept getting all up in Luke’s business. This is his first Christmas, so all of the decor and craziness is kind of stressing him out and he needs constant reassurance that it’s all ok. Poor baby haha.

It was hectic, but I’m very glad we ended up getting all of that done today. We’ve gotten gifts for almost everyone we need to buy for taken care of and wrapped, so it’s nice to not have to worry about all of that stuff anymore. πŸ™‚

That wasn’t the end of our Christmas adventures though, because once we had the gifts wrapped we had to hang up the Christmas lights! Or some of them at least. You see, I’m a huge klutz and am very prone to hurting myself. Therefore, I am not allowed on the roof haha. So Luke put those lights up while I drank coffee and kinda stretched out the new string of lights that we’d bought this morning. And of course Lily was there to help. πŸ˜‰ And tomorrow I’m probably going to put up some more lights on the house and around the yard. Luke has to work tomorrow, but since the roof lights are all taken care of and nothing else requires a ladder I can do all of that by myself. πŸ˜‰

Once our roof lights were put up and all of the mess that was made in doing that was cleaned up it was about 4 pm and we finally got to sit down and relax! At least for a little bit. First we watched the latest episode of Supernatural and after we were done with that I realized I hadn’t gotten the mail today and that I needed to go do that because my December StrideBox was supposed to get here today, which it did! πŸ™‚

img_8237-1

This months box was full of all sorts of yummy goodies! That was a nice surprise!! Usually it only comes with one or two snacks, but this time that was a good majority of what was in the box and I’m 100% ok with that! Haha the snacks are usually my favorite thing in every StrideBox, so I’m pretty excited that I have all sorts of new goodies to try! πŸ™‚

img_8243-1

And friendly reminder that you can still use the codeΒ RunningRebel10Β (good until 12/24/17)Β to get 10% off of a 3 or 6 month gift subscription to StrideBox! If you’re still looking for a gift for the runner in your life, this is a great option! I mean, look at all the goodies that come in it!! πŸ™‚

After admiring all of the neat stuff in my StrideBox it was about 5pm, starting to really get dark, and I realized I still needed to get in a mile for day 16 of #RWRunStreak. Fuck me. After all of the Christmas shopping, gift wrapping, and light hanging we did today, running was the absolutely last thing I wanted to do. But I have committed to this streak, so I changed into a pair of running tights and shoes, pulled a hoodie over my sweater (because I was too lazy to bother to actually change into all running gear haha), got out the door, and busted out a mile. Honestly I’m really glad I ended up doing it. 1. I got to see my lights and a bunch of other pretty Christmas lights in my neighborhood. And 2. I ended up feeling a lot better after I did it! Honestly I probably should have done more than a mile because after I had gotten going I felt great! But it was starting to get really dark and all I had was pepper spray on me and being out and about alone after dark makes me kinda nervous. If I would have had one of my dogs or a gun with me I probably would have kept going, but I did not. But anyway, I’m still happy with my mile. πŸ™‚

img_8251

Whew! After that I showered, worked on a few blog posts, and now here I am at 7:30 pm, pretty much ready for bed! Hahaha I think that might be a little early though, so I’m gonna relax, watch some Netflix, drink some tea, and then call it a night.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Friday and is getting into the holiday spirit!

Your holly jolly runner friend,

~Ashley

Thanksgiving In Colorado and Another Run Streak

Oh man, the last couple of days have been kind of a whirlwind of craziness between driving to and from Colorado, hanging out with my mom, dad, and brother for Thanksgiving, and the stuff that we did there. Throw three dogsΒ  and starting another run streak into that mix and you’ve got quite the crazy adventure! So lets just get right into it I guess. This is probably going to be a pretty long post, but bare with me because I’ve got a few neat photos! πŸ™‚

So Luke, all three dogs and I woke up at 3 am on Wednesday morning to begin our journey to Colorado. We made sure the rabbits, ferrets, cats, and leopard gecko would be fine on their own for a few days. Packed up the car, loaded up the dogs, and then set off 30 minutes in the opposite direction that we needed to go hahaha. Luke forgot to turn in his time sheet at work, so he had to go there and do that before we left. So he got that done and then around 4:30 am we were finally on our way.

img_7771

Last time I went on a long road trip my ankles and feet swelled terribly because I forgot to wear my compression sleeves. I made sure not to make that mistake this time. πŸ™‚

Intitally we didn’t get very far. You see, the heat doesn’t work in our car…So we had bundled up, but it was 17 degrees outside and an extra pair of pants and several shirts and pairs of socks just doesn’t help against that kind of cold. Especially when it’s dark and you’re sitting still. So when we were about an hour into our 11 hour car ride we had to stop at a Walmart to try to find something that would help keep up warm. We ended up getting this heated blanket that plugged into the car. It didn’t exactly get really warm, but it did help! And we also got those hand warmer things to shove into our socks because our feet were numb and in pain. Those made a huge difference! So it was still cold, but as we drove it did get warmer and less miserable. πŸ™‚

img_7777

Sunset views from the Walmart parking lot.

Probably an hour and a half to two ish hours later, the sun was all the way up and the dogs had to pee. Of course. So we had to pull over at a rest stop and walk them all around a little bit so that they could all pee and run around a little bit. This is the problem with traveling with border collies, they don’t like sitting still haha. At this point Luke decided that since we didn’t have to be in Colorado at any specific time that we were just gonna take our time, stop several places and maybe have some fun. And we actually did!! Anyway, while we were at this rest stop I had found one of my Honey Stinger waffles in the glove compartment that I left in there after the Longview Half. That was a very pleasant surprise because I was super hungry at that point, and you know I love me some Honey Stinger waffles!!

After that we actually started making some pretty decent time and we saw some very interesting things haha! I’m not sure if I can remember everything that we thought was funny, but some of our favorites included a semi truck hauling a ready made home that had gotten stuck under an over pass. A UPS truck that was just sitting in a ditch. The poop emoji on a billboard. At one point we had to stop to get gas and we saw a guy get out of his truck and shoo away a crow that wouldn’t get off of the truck. Several cute dogs, lots of interesting people, and all sorts of other stuff that you only get to witness on long road trips. We also ended up taking a little tour through the town of Colby Kansas, because we saw a billboard for a dog park there. We never found that dog park, but we did end up eating a super early lunch at their Taco Johns haha.

Colby was about an hour away from the Colorado state line, so once we got there we stopped to take a photo in front of the welcome sign! Well, Luke took a photo of me and the dogs, because he doesn’t like having his picture taken haha. Anyway, the dogs were all very ready to be out of the car at that point, but we still had around 3 hours to go until we got to our destination of Longmont Colorado. Poor puppies.

img_7787

The last 3 hours of our drive were pretty uneventful. Well, aside from seeing the mountains that is! They are absolutely beautiful and I don’t think I’d ever get tired of looking at them. πŸ™‚

So we finally got to my mom and dad’s apartment around 3 pm. We let the dogs run around the little fenced in dog area once we got there and they weren’t too thrilled with that haha. Our backyard is bigger than the dog area there and they didn’t know what to do with themselves. They also were not thrilled about having to be on the leash all the time. None of them see the point of being on a leash and honestly they could all probably go the rest of their lives without ever needed one, but leash laws and all of that.

So we hung out for a little bit, watched some movies, ordered Chinese food, opened birthday and Christmas gifts (since they weren’t able to come to Kansas for my birthday and we wont be able to go to Colorado for Christmas) and went to bed at like 8:30 pm. That was aided by a little bit of the green stuff, if you catch my drift. πŸ˜‰ But hey, it’s legal there!

Since we went to bed so early we woke up pretty early on Thanksgiving morning. Actually all things considered it wasn’t that early. Colorado is an hour behind Kansas, so it was actually 7 am our time haha. Anyway, Luke and I took the dogs out, went to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast (I’ve never had Dunkin Donuts before. Probably because I don’t like donuts haha. But their breakfast sandwiches and coffee are pretty good!) And then we took the dogs to a dog park because we didn’t want them to be noisy and wake up my dad, who had gotten home a little bit before we woke up (he’s a truck driver and works nights). The dog park didn’t got well. It was small, cramped, and full of rowdy dogs. So we didn’t spend much time there. We ended up going back to the apartment, looking for places to hike, and then ended up taking my brother and all three dogs to Rabbit Mountain, which is actually where my dad took me hiking last time I was there. But it’s super pretty and a pretty easy hike all things considered, so that’s where we ended up going. πŸ™‚

I’m really glad my brother went with us. I don’t get to hang out with him very often and he’s a lot of fun! Plus that meant that we had one person per dog and that made life a little bit easier haha.

The dogs did seem to have a lot of fun while we were there! We started out on the trail, but to get to the top we ended up doing a lot of bushwhacking. That was a lot of fun for me and my brother, but I don’t think Luke was a fan of the bushwhacking thing haha. So we got to the top (although I don’t think we actually made it to the highest point, but it’s not like it’s a big Mountain or anything haha). We continued our bushwhacking on the way back down, which was a lot harder than going up because of the loose rocks. It was pretty fun though! πŸ™‚ By the time we had made it up, over, and back down to the car we had managed to cover two miles in an hour and eight minutes. Haha yeah, we’re definitely not the worlds best hikers, but we all had a lot of fun. Oh and I had found ANOTHER Honey Stinger waffle in the car before our hike. That was pretty sweet!! πŸ™‚ Climbing very small mountains is hard for flatlanders like me, and according to my Garmin I burned 400 calories in the two miles we did. So a few extra calories after breakfast was nice. πŸ™‚

After our hike we headed back to the apartment, hung out with my mom and helped her with some of the Thanksgiving dinner cooking while I waited for my dad to wake up. About a week before our trip to Colorado he had promised me that we were going to do a little bit of running together and I was super stoked about that! I’m doing the RWRunStreak again this year (which is just a run streak that Runner’s World hosts, that starts on Thanksgiving and ends on New Years Day) and I thought that would be a great way to kick off the streak! πŸ™‚ So once he got up we actually ended up eating our Thanksgiving dinner first (which was amazing!) and waiting for our food to digest a little bit before we set out on our run.

It probably would have been a better idea to do our little run/walk adventureΒ before we ate, but we still somehow got it done! We literally started the second we stepped foot out of the door which threw me off a little bit because I thought we were going to walk to the trail and then start doing the run/walk intervals that we had agreed upon, but he wanted to hit 4 miles and to do that we had to start right out the door haha. The trail is about 3.5 miles long and was probably close to 1/4 a mile away from the apartment so by the time we finished we hit 3.9 miles, so basically 4. πŸ˜‰

We both had a lot of fun and I’m super impressed with how my dad did considering he’s not exactly a runner. Haha and I’m super impressed with how I did because running at a little over 5,0000 feet above sea level is hard considering I live at 1,063 feet above sea level. The trail we ran on goes around a lake and has a really nice view of Longs Peak in distance, so that was really neat! We ended up run/walking the first 5k and then walked the last mile, but I think that still totally counts as day one of the RWRunStreak. πŸ™‚

After our little run/walk adventure me, my mom, dad, and Luke went to the apartment complex’s hot tub and hung out there for a little bit. Oh man, that felt soooo good after the hiking and running I did. After that we went back to my parent’s apartment, ate some pie, watched a bunch of Steel Panther music videos (my dad and brother loved them, but I don’t thing my mom was a fan. πŸ˜‰ ), and then Luke and I went to bed early again, because we had another early morning and a long day of driving ahead of us.

My mom gave Finn a new stuffed animal. He was pretty freaking thrilled about that.

So we woke up at 2 am, packed up the car, let the dogs run around the dog area for a little bit, said goodbye to my parents, and started the long drive back home. This drive did not go well. I guess the dogs ate something that didn’t agree with them because they all ended up getting diarrhea. We had to stop several times for them to go potty, but apparently that wasn’t enough, because Finn ended up shitting in the hatchback once, and Lily shit in the back seat once. We ended up throwing away the stuffed animal my mom gave Finn, a blanket, hoodie, and a backpack because they were all covered in dog shit and we didn’t want to spend hours in the car with that. Luckily that was all stuff that we were too upset to lose, but it still sucked…

The ride home was pretty awful, but at least we got to witness a pretty sunrise.

And of course the ride home always seems to take longer, so riding in the car for another 11 hours was pretty much torture, but we finally made it home around 1:30 pm. That gave us enough time to unpack the car, get the dogs in the back yard, go grocery shopping, and then relax a little bit before poor Luke had to go to work. After driving 11 hours. That was probably pretty terrible.

After Luke went to work I set out to tackle the mountain of laundry we created, cleaned up the house a little bit, took care of the ferrets, cats, rabbits, and gecko. After that was all taken care of I got my mile for the streak in! Not gonna lie, I really didn’t want to do it, but I’m glad I did! Moving around after being in the car for a long time was nice, plus it was dark and a bunch of people in my neighborhood have their Christmas lights up, so it was a very pretty little mile. πŸ™‚ After that I did some much needed yoga and then went to bed and passed out.

So yeah, I guess that pretty much covers it! I’ve spent today rehydrating and relaxing a little bit, but I still got my run in for the day, so day 3 of the streak was a success! πŸ™‚

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! I know I sure did!

Happy Saturday!

Monday Funday!!

No weekly recap from last week. I️ wasn’t really doing anything fun enough to recap haha. It’s been pretty nice just running if/when I️ felt like it, having no set distances or workouts to do and just running for fun. Basically what I’m saying is that I’m very much enjoying not training for anything! I’m not sure how long that feeling’s gonna last though, considering I don’t get to race often, but right now it’s great and I’m enjoying running for fun! 😊

So today’s fun run consisted of a mile haha. I wanted to run, but I didn’t want to runΒ thatΒ much, ya feel me? πŸ˜‰ It made sense to me at least. So like I said, I’m very much enjoying just running for fun. But according to Luke, I apparently need to start running more again. Last night I told him how much of the office I’ve been watching (it’s been and awful lot hahaha). I guess maybe it’s been too much, but damn it it’s my down time!! πŸ˜‰

Alrighy then! I’ve got a busy day, and then week ahead of me so lets just get right into that! Luke, all three dogs, and I are going to be driving to Colorado for Thanksgiving. That’s going to be an interesting trip. Lily and Dean have both been to Minnesota and that’s a much longer trip than this one, so I know they’ll be fine in the car for an extended period of time. But I’m not so sure about Finn. He does pretty well in the car, but he’s never been on a long road trip before and we’re going to have a pie with us, so yeah, things could get a little crazy haha.

We’re planning on leaving either later on Tuesday night or super early on Wednesday morning. So we’re going to be in for a long day of driving! Ugh, it’s a pretty awful drive, but I’m excited because I get to see my parents, this will be the first time the dogs have ever been to Colorado, and this will be the first time that Luke’s been to Colorado, that we’l actually be staying instead of just passing through. So hopefully we’ll be able to do something exciting and Colorado-y after we get there on Wednesday.

Unfortunately my dad only has Thanksgiving day off from work, so he probably wont get to do anything fun with us on Wednesday, but on Thursday he said he’s gonna do a 5k with me in the morning! We couldn’t find an actual turkey trot close enough to do (they were all like an hour away…), so we’re just going to run around the lake near his apartment. I’m so excited for that and we’re gonna have so much fun!! It’s also probably going to be pretty interesting because last I knew, my dad’s not really a runner. Still gonna be lots of fun though!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

So today I’m going to clean up our cooler and pack it with tupperware, because my mom wants us to take some leftovers and I am totally on board with that! I’m also thinking about putting up Christmas decorations, because for the last 4 years I’ve decorated on the 20th of November (thanks for reminding me of that Facebook memories). And tonight Luke and I are going to bake a pumpkin pie to take to our little Thanksgiving shindig. Oh and last night I got THE BEST Christmas sweater ever! So obviously I’m going to wear it to Thanksgiving! πŸ™‚

It’s so beautiful!!Β

Tomorrow we’re probably going to pack up the car once Luke gets home from work, get everything ready to go, sleep for a little bit, and then we’ll be on our way! Fun times!

Okey dokey then! I’ve got stuff to do and I already feel like I’m running out of time to do it haha. I hope everyone has a great week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!
