Friday Fives: Songs I Like To Sing Loudly And Badly When No One Is Around

Guys! Jeez!! Why haven’t I done a Friday Fives in about 8 billion years?!?!?

Ok, maybe it hasn’t been 8 billion years, but it’s been a while and that’s kinda no fun. Sometimes coming up with topics, or 5 different things I want to talk about can be hard, but I still enjoy doing this posts. Especially since I like to keep it super broad, instead of just limited myself to “Friday Favorites” like a lot of other people like to do. Haha it gives me a little more wiggle room to talk about pretty much anything I want. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I like to ramble about random things, if you haven’t noticed. Haha but that’s more exciting than only talking about running all the time. Or at least I think so.

Anyways, instead of running I wanted to talk about another one of my favorite subjects; music!! Specifically, songs that I like to sing loudly and badly to myself. I know there’s no way I’m the only one who likes to do this!!! I mean, sometimes when I’m home alone I just can’t help but belt out some of my favorite songs. And really the only reason that it’s bad is because I have absolutely no talent for singing whatsoever. ๐Ÿ˜‚ But dammit if I don’t enjoy doing it!!

So, here are 5 songs that I just can’t help singing along to, loudly and badly, when no one is around. Sometimes awful dance moves may or may not accompany this little hobby of mine. But that’s something that’s gonna stay between me, myself, and I. ๐Ÿ˜‰

1. Saturday Night –ย  Misfits

OOOOOOOO OOOOOO Whoaaaaaaoooooooooo noooooooo oooooooooh THERE’S 52 WAYS TO MURDER ANYONE, ONE OR TWO ARE THE SAME, AND THEY BOTH WORK AS WELL. I’M COMING CLEAN FOR AMY, JULIE DOESN’T SCREAM AS WELL……I WAS THINKING ABOUT YOU, THERE WAS SOMETHING I FORGOT TO SAY, I WAS CRYING ON A SATURDAY NIGHT…….

I desperately want to put this song on one of my running playlists, but I don’t trust myself…the second those oooooo’s start I can’t help but sing along. And I’m not entirely sure that this is a good song to be belting out in public. I don’t think all of the very friendly, but a little bit older, and kinda old fashioned people who live in my neighborhood would appreciate me yelling “there’s 52 ways to murder anyone” or “now I’m watching, watching you die”. Especially the ladies at the Baptist church that I often run by. I get disproving looks from them sometimes. My guess is it’s the tattoo’s, facial piercing, and dyed hair. So I’m thinking they wouldn’t appreciate this song….

(I feel like I need to mention that I’m actually on really friendly terms with a lot of the people I see on a regular basis when I’m out running/walking dogs/whatever. A good majority of the people I live near really are older and kind of old fashioned (I live in a small town in a kinda rural part of Kansas, so that’s unsurprising), but they’re all super nice and I enjoy talking to a lot of them. I just don’t think they’d appreciate the Misfits like I do hahaha.)

2. Sugar We’re Going Down – Fall Out Boy

I was 14 years old when this song came out. Jeez Louise I can’t believe this song is so old… Do you guys remember back in the day when punk/pop punk/emo/that basic genre was super cool. Everyone loved it and was super into everything that went with it. Like, everyone I went to grade school with wore skateboard shoes (guilty! I has a sweet pair of Etnies.). Safety pins. So many safety pins. Every girl had a crush on Billie Joe Armstrong, Brendon Urie, Pete Wentz, and that dude from Sum 41. We all watched Jackass and every guy wanted to be Johnny Knoxville or Bam Margera. We all argued about who’s music tastes were better and adamantly denied that we liked country music (even though we were all brought up on it). We brought our GameBoys and Pokemon cards to school (my class actually got all of that banned from my school hahaha) and battled/traded Pokemon at recess. Our school had skate nights at a local roller rink where we all showed off our sick roller blade moves, played wipe out and did the Cha Cha Slide, and ate frozen pickle juice (it was a thing at this roller rink!). We all thought we were a bunch of bad ass 8th graders, but really we were just a bunch of Midwestern kids who went to a private, Lutheran school in Illinois and didn’t know shit about the world. Those were the days…

So yeah, this song brings out the 14 year old girl in me, and I love it. Also, I like to think that my 14 year old self would think that me now at 26 is pretty freaking cool. ๐Ÿ˜‰

3. Come On Eileen –ย Dexys Midnight Runners

How can you now?!?!? That’s literally all I’ve got for this one. How can you not?!? Such a good song. ๐Ÿ™‚

4. She’s Out Of Her Mind – Blink-182

Fun fact; I’ve literally never listened to an entire Blink -182 album. Actually, as a general rule, I don’t exactly like Blink-182. Now, you might be wondering “But Ashley, doesn’t Blink-182 sound a lot like Green Day??”. Yeah, I guess, kinda. And that’s kinda part of my problem with them. Mostly it’s just that I’ve seen a few interviews with Tom Delonge and I don’t know man, there’s just something about him that I find ridiculously off putting. I don’t know, I’m just not a fan…

That being said, I listen to quite a few Blink-182 songs for someone who doesn’t exactly like them haha. And when there new album came out in 2016 I found this song and was pretty much hooked. Now I can’t stop listening to it. It gets stuck in my head all the time. I find myself singing it a lot. I’m not supposed to like Blink-182! Send help!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

(I know that my bias against them is kind of unfair and a little bit ridiculous, but dammit there’s just something about this band that I absolutely hate and I’ve yet to take the time to figure out what)

5. Oh Sherry -Steve Perryย

*lots of dramatic arm flailing* OH SHERRY OUR LOVE HOOOOOLDS ON HOOOOOLDS ON!!!

Haha I find most 80’s music to be super cliche and over dramatic. But that’s what makes it so much fun right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ But seriously, how can you hear the refrain of this song and not want to sing along? Because I find it to be very necessary hahah.

Ok seriously though, I know I can’t be the only one who does stuff like this. What songs do you absolutely have to sing along to when you’re alone??

The Last 10 Photos On My Phone And The Story Behind Them

I saw this idea on one of those “blog post ideas” blog posts, on a blog about blogging that I found on Pintrest hahaha. Does anyone else find blogs about blogging super duper annoying? Like, “here’s a list of 100 of the most generic blog post ideas ever”. Or “here’s how I went from no readers to 304957498679387520984 readers in only 3 months!”.ย  Riiiight I’m sure me paying a bazillion dollars for you’re online guide is really gonna teach me how to accomplish anything. Especially since it’s probably the most generic, vague thing ever. Haha I don’t even know why I bother reading those blogs every once in a while. I always end up super annoyed with how fake the people are and how hard they try to push their guides, tutorials, and “classes” onto people. Whatever. ๐Ÿ˜‰

But I did see this idea for a blog post and I did think it would be pretty fun! Especially considering I take photos of just about everything, and have an interesting collection of memes and other photos from the internet, so I definitely have some fun ones on my phone! Not gonna lie though, I cheated a little bit and didn’t use any of the photos that I’ve posted here or on instagram. I figured seeing them for the 8 billionth time would be boring, so I skipped those. But other than that, these really are the last 10 photos on my phone. ๐Ÿ™‚

10. Super Spiffy New Socks!

I love socks! Especially thick, warm socks, because unless it’s super hot outside, my feet are always freezing cold. The problem is that I’m also really super good at wearing holes into my socks (and even shoes!) at the very ball of my feet. I’m not sure how I do it, but that means I’m often obtaining new socks. Haha and the more exciting the better! I saw these at Hot Topic and I had to get them because the are adorable!

9. The Continuing Meme War.ย

So my husband and I are at all times in the middle of a meme war. We both spend an absurd amount of time scouring facebook, ifunny, Instagram, Pintrest, and a plethora of other pages looking for the best memes/internet posts, constantly trying to one up each other. Anything involving dogs is usually a very big win, but border collies are even better! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also, this is the best news headline I’ve ever seen.

8. Does This Even Surpriseย Anyone Anymore?

Of course I have a bunch of Green Day photos on my phone that I didn’t even take…Haha I want to say I got this photo from greendayauthority.com, but I couldn’t tell you with any certainty. Which really sucks because it’s a great photo from the Uno, Dos, Tre tour and I would love to give the photographer credit for their work (I always try to do that anyway). But anyway, this is one of my all time favorite photos from a Green Day show, and it’s currently the lock screen on my phone haha.

img_9187

7. Partially Purple Hair, Don’t care.ย

Unfortunatly it’s not this purple anymore. It’s faded out super fast and that really sucks. But it was fun while it lasted (and I might end up doing it again). And in case anyone was wondering, I am the queen of bad selfies.

img_9138

6. My Appendixย Tried To Kill Me Once. Now I’m Short One Appendix.ย

Another meme from the meme wars. My husband actually sent this one to me, because I had an appendectomy when I was 13. Haha I swear I know more about appendixes now that I don’t have one, than I did back when I actually still had mine!

5. Winchester Knows How To Get Comfy.ย

Earlier this week Luke and I started cleaning out my brother-in-law’s old room since he doesn’t live here anymore, but left a piss ton of his stuff behind. So we packed up most of it and have it all in a pile for him to come take. Winchester found said pile and the dog bed on the very top of it all. He is currently very happy about this situation.

img_9243

Haha alright, that was actually the most recent photo that I’ve taken that I haven’t shared anywhere yet. I underestimated how many photo’s I’ve actually posted here and on my other social media accounts, so I had to back track a litter further into my camera roll for the next 5 photos hahahaha.

4. I Am One Of Those Melodramatic Fools

My Basket Case eyeliner!! I’ve yet to figure out how to make it work on the tops of my eyes, but I’ve definitely got the messy look down on the bottom and I absolutely love it! ๐Ÿ™‚

img_8895

3. It’s Not Uncommon to Find Rabbits On My Furniture.ย

Daisy isn’t a fan of being picked up, or pet. But she does like the chill on the couch next to people and rub her face all over them.

img_8852

2. My First Tattoo, Featuring My Appendectomy Scar.ย

It is incredibly hard for me to get a decent photo of this thing, which is exactly what I was trying to accomplish haha. It always ends up looking weird and distorted because of the weird angle. Haha oh well. It’s not like it’s a great tattoo anyway, but it’s mine and I love it. It’s also surprisingly holding up pretty well after 6 years of me having it. I was a little worried about all of the super light colors the artist used because those tend to fade faster on some people, but really the only color that actually faded out was some bright orange he put in between the petals. But the yellow, green, and bright pink has held up pretty well!

img_8823

1. Go Figure The Last One Is Another Green Day Thing…

I had to go all the way back to December 28th for this one! Haha I share a lot of my photos on social media…Anyway, obviously I stole this from Billie Joe Armstrong’s Instagram account. But I liked the message to the “young rock n rollers”, so I screen shot it so I can have it forever hahaha. I’m such a total fan girl….

img_8630

Alrighy then! Those were the last 10 photos on my phone (that weren’t plastered all over social media) and the stories behind them! I really hope you enjoyed this post because I thought it was a lot of fun and I just might end up doing this again! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great Saturday everyone!!

Thursday Things

Hello, people of earth and any potential space aliens reading this! Haha hey, you never know! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_9008

First and foremost, can we talk about how freaking true the above photo is? Especially when you decide to chug two Not Your Father’s Root Beer Beer’s on a Wednesday night. I know that’s not a lot, but I don’t exactly drink often and chugging them in a short amount of time may or may not have gotten me a little bit tipsy and I woke up a little more tired than I probably should have and very thirsty. Oh well, that was an easy enough fix. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyways, yesterday was Dean’s birthday!!!!!! My favorite running buddy turned 3 years old yesterday! We didn’t make him a cake like we did for Finn, but he did get a pretty good amount of raw, ground beef all to himself. So I think that more than makes up for it.

img_9018

I say he’s my favorite running buddy, but I actually haven’t run with him for a while haha. I need to though. He really enjoys running with me. I’ll have to do that after all of the salt washes off of the roads. I don’t like walking my dogs on all of that stuff. It’s got chemicals in it that I don’t want them getting on their feet.

And speaking of running (my segues on these “Thursday Things” posts are so freakin good, I know. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), I didn’t do any one Tuesday or yesterday haha. After running on snow and ice on Mondayย my legs were completely trashed and my left knee was a little bit sore. I suppose that’s not too surprising though. Running on snow is hard! So I took a rest day on Tuesday and spent a little bit of time on my stationary bike on Wednesday. Haha and actually, part of the reason why I didn’t run yesterday was because it felt like -12 degrees outside and I didn’t feel like dealing with that kind of cold. It just didn’t sound like fun.

It’s looking like we’re not gonna have to worry about the crazy cold for much longer though! I mean, look at Sunday. That’s basically shorts weather at this point!!

img_9073

It was still pretty chilly this morning though. It felt like 7ย  degrees when I woke up, which not gonna lie, felt a little bit toasty after -12 the day before hahaha. But since it was a tad bit warmer out and my legs felt a lot better, I figured I’d better do some running today. So I went out and did 20 easy minutes. I still had a bit of a niggle going on in my knee, so I figured short and sweet was a good idea for today. Plus there were still some icy patches on the road and that’s what more likely than not made my knee sore in the first place haha.

img_9080-2

So, Death Of A Bachelor kept me entertained during my warm up and run this morning, but I need some new albums to listen to while I run. Suggestions?? Please! I’m getting really bored with most of my music lately haha. I need some new tunes!

img_9079

Alrighty then! This is kinda super random, but aren’t all of my “Thursday Things” posts? Anyway, so a couple of months ago I saw an ad for this app called Achievement on Facebook. The ad basically claimed that you could earn a little bit of extra cash by being active. Of course I initially thought it was bullshit, but I did a little bit of research, downloaded the app, and discovered that it’s actually legit! Or at least it seems that way so far. So basically, you earn points by syncing apps like myfitnesspal, Strava, Garmin Connect, the FitBit app, Apple health and other apps like that, and basically just using them haha. It seems like you earn the most points by just logging steps but you still get a few by logging your meals, activities and what not. Then once you earn 10,000 they supposedly send you $10, either through PayPal or direct depostit. I haven’t gotten that far yet (I’m getting close though!) but I’ll let you know if I actually get $10!

img_9072

So obviously it’s not a lot of money, but hey, it’s something! And basically all you have to do is use health/fitness apps that you already use! And I’m not getting any kind of compensation or rewards, or anything like that for talking about this app. I just thought it was pretty spiffy and wanted to share it with you guys! ๐Ÿ™‚ If you’re at all interested, here’s Achievement’s website!

Anyway, I believe that’s all I’ve got to talk about for today! Haha now that the holiday’s are over it feels like I’ve just got nothing going on and very little to talk about at the moment. Especially since I’m just slowly working back into running and whatnot, so nothing very exciting is really happening right now. But I do have one race on the schedule in May and a few others that I want to do this year, along with all of my other running goals/plans. So hopefully before too long things will start picking up again! Haha but I just feel like I’m being kinda boring at the moment. Oh well, can’t do much about that except keeping up with what I’m doing. Which like I said, isn’t much, especially running-wise, but I do feel like I’m making some progress on that front. Slow progress. But progress nonetheless!

Happy Friday eve everyone! I hope everyone’s had a great week so far!!

~Ashley

img_9071

Oh yeah, and I’m bringing back the blonde hair streak thingy!! I don’t remember if I mentioned that on here yet haha. I’m kinda over the whole black hair thing, so I’m just letting that fade and working on bringing the blonde thing back. Right now it’s kinda orange, but hopefully it’ll only take one more round of bleaching to turn all the way blonde again. Like everything I’ve got going on right now, it’s a slow process.

Ok, now I’m done. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Half Marathon Training Day 35 (Because I’m Still An Athlete On Off Days), Life Is Messy, New Hair, and Other Catching Up In General

Oh man life is messy. I’ve currently got a lot going on with multiple sides of my family, I’m training for a half marathon, keeping up with my husband, my dogs, a new rabbit, my other rabbit and other pets, my sister’s dog, my garden, the house, and just life in general. I’m also still kind of experiencing the post concert blues (haha yup, I’m still hung up on all the Green Day feels. You can read about that night here and here if you missed it. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m feeling a little bit overwhelmed right now and I feel like I’ve been neglecting several of the things mentioned above, along with this blog and my Vidme account. Haha I’m also going to shamelessly plug my Instagram account while I’m at it, because I am actually keeping up with that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So yeah, as you can probably already tell, I’m going to be linking to several older posts in this little update. Mostly because I’m trying to organize all of my thoughts and re-reading the stuff I’ve already written helps. And ya know, it helps anyone who missed anything and wanted to catch up with the weirdness that is my life or wanted to go back and figure out what the heck I’m talking about haha. I like to think it helps.

Anyway, ย I’m not entirety sure where to start or where this post is going to end up going so if you’re reading this you’re about to embark on what is probably going to be a long adventure in self reflection and discovery with me. ๐Ÿ™‚ Okey Dokey, lets get into it then shall we?

Starting with running! Yay running! The whole reason I started this blog and one thing that I think sometimes I neglect to talk in depth enough here haha. So, half marathon training day ___ actually ended up being a rest day. That wasn’t supposed to be the case (according to my training scheduled, anyway.), today was supposed to be a long run day. 10 miles to be exact. I wasn’t entirely sure if that was going to happen though. In my last post here on the blog, I talked a little bit about how I ended up hurting my knee (at the Green Day concert, I think) and ended up taking all of last week off from running. It’s been feeling better this week, but it’s still not back at 100% yet. I’ve been able to do all of my workouts this week with minimal pain, but I wasn’t sure how it would hold up for 10 miles. But of course last night was one of those nights when I just couldn’t fall asleep (that happens to me every once in a while). I finally fell asleep around 1:40 am, but at that point I knew my long run wasn’t going to happen today. So I decided to rest today and hopefully do a long run tomorrow. Haha at the very least now my knee is getting an extra day off after the interval workout I did yesterday.

So yeah, no running for me today. But I am still working on things that will make tomorrow’s (hopefully) long run better. I’ve been eating pretty well, I’m drinking plenty of water, and I’ve done a little bit of stretching/ foam rolling. Go me! ๐Ÿ™‚ Haha I have this really bad habit of getting super lazy and not taking care of myself on days when I don’t run. I’m trying to work on that though. I’ve been telling myself that I’m still an athlete on my days off and that means I should act as such. So far that’s gone well for me today, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see if I actually stick with it.

So yeah, running stuff. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Haha I’ll actually be posting a Weekly Recap this week, so if you’re at all interested in how my 3rd (I think it’s the 3rd anyway) week of half marathon training is going that’ll be up at some point tomorrow.

Ok moving on to some animal stuff (because I can’t not talk about them ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). So two-ish weeks ago I had mentioned that our rabbit, Rey had died. Luke and I were worried about our other rabbit, Daisy, because rabbits are very social and she’s always had Rey, so Luke ended up bringing home a new baby bunny that very day. She is an adorable little fluffball who I’ve named Rune. ๐Ÿ™‚

Unfortunately Daisy has been acting very strange about the new bunny situation. When we first introduced them she was fine, she would clean her, cuddle her, and they seemed like they were going to be fast friends. That wasn’t the case though…She ended up shoving Rune into the corner of the cage and wouldn’t let her near the food, but when I tried to take Rune out of the cage that little bitch bit me (something she’s never done!) and literally grabbed Rune by the foot and dragged her back into the cage. So yeah, they live in separate cages now and we’re slowly trying to introduce them back to each other.

On the bright side, Rune is a very sweet little rabbit! She’s very social and loves to be pet. Haha last night I was trying to read in my bed while I let her run around, which she did. But she’d also let me know that I wasn’t paying enough attention to her by headbutting me whenever she wanted to be pet. Silly little thing.

And sticking with animals for just one moment longer, my Sister’s dog Ace is still here. He was originally going to be here for 4 days, but at this point we’re going on 3 weeks. I mean, it’s not like he’s a bad dog or anything and he gets along fine with my dogs, but it’s loooong past time for him to go home…Supposedly my sister’s boyfriend is supposed to come get him tomorrow, but I guess we’ll see if that actually happens. He was supposed to come a week ago to get him, but he didn’t because we we’re too far out of his way…And yeah, our house is about 30 minutes out of the way when you’re driving from Illinois (where he’s from) to Colorado where my sister now lives, but on a 10+ hour car ride that’s really notย that bad. Especailly since he can stop here andย nap if he wants to, eat for free, walk around, use the bathroom, etc. But whatever.

img_5881

He enjoys laying on my yoga mat while I’m trying to stretch.

Alright! I think I’m actually getting close to the end of stuff I wanted to talk about! Haha I thought this was going to take a lot longer for me to get all out. Apparently I didn’t want to go as in depth into this stuff as I thought haha. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyways, onto my last order of business, I changed my hair!! I got super bored with my natural hair color/blond streak that I’ve been rocking off and on since I was 17, so I dyed it black. And I succsessfully did it without dyeing my forehead/ears black as well!! Haha last time I dyed my hair black I did and it looked awful…But I didn’t do it this time and I’m definitely enjoying the change! I’m thinking I’m going to end up sticking with the black for a while, but eventually I’m going to start missing my blond streak and I’ll end up with it again. Over the years I’ve gone with a purple streak, my usual blond streak, red, short red, black, medium black (what I’ve currently go going on), but I always end up back at the blond streak. Haha it’s just easier to keep up with and I think it looks neat. But like I said, I’m very happy with the change right now, and I’m gonna stick with it for a while.

Alrighty, I believe that basically sums up what I’ve had going on in my life. For the most part at least. But now that I’m back at running and mostly back on my regular scheduled, I’ll be more active here on the blog and talking more about half marathon training, and eventually I’ll start making vlogs again.

Ok, I need to go mop my floors now. I hope you have a great weekend!

Another Unexpected Rest Day

My mom and brother ended up staying a little later than expected. We all ended up sleeping in late so we got a late start to the day. That wasn’t too big of a deal, we kinda missed trash and recycle pick up but that wasn’t that big of a deal. We never really have much trash anyway. Our recycle bins are pretty full, but we’re just going to have to deal with that until next Friday.

Anyway, my mom and brother ended up leaving Ace here to stay for a little bit. My mom was worried about having 3 dogs (him, Niko, and my uncle’s dog Luther) all at my grandma’s house (which is where my mom and bother are staying while they’re in Illinois) so we offered to watch him. He’s a very good boy. ๐Ÿ™‚ He and Lily kinda grew up on the farm together, Dean’s met him several times and they like playing together, Finn had never met him before yesterday, but they seem to get along, so watching him will be easy enough. ๐Ÿ™‚ There was no way Niko was staying here though. He’s never aloud to stay at my house for more than a day or two (and even then only if my mom or dad is here with him) ever again. The first and last time he stayed here he attacked Lily over a treat and left a really deep tooth mark in her leg. And that was back when he was younger. Now he’s fully grown and weighs 125 pounds….But anyway, it’ll probably be fun to have Ace here for a little bit.

img_5313

Anyways, since we got up late Luke and I got a late start to our day. That wasn’t too big of a deal, we still got everything we wanted to do done, it just sucks because we needed to go grocery shopping but didn’t get that accomplished and I didn’t get a run in today. Hahaha it’s all good though, we’ll probably get groceries on Sunday and according to my fancy new Garmin Fenix 5 I could use another day of rest anyway, so I guess that worked out alright. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_5333

So the first thing we had to do was go to Luke’s work building to get some stuff taken care of at the bank (haha it’s an employee owned credit union, so it’s in his building and only open when Luke’s work is opened). Then we had to drive to another bank to cash a check he got. Since the other bank is so small and whatnot they don’t keep much cash on hand. Once we got all the boring adult stuff done we went to the mall to so some shopping and then went out for lunch.

img_5316

My face when I have to adult.

At the mall we went to Hot Topic (for the second time this week) because more band t’s we’re necessary. Haha in my world there’s no such thing as too many band t’s. Especially if they’re Green Day t shirts. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Luke also got this super sweet limited edition Supernatural Funko Pop. It’s Dean inside of Baby and it’s really fucking awesome. It was also really fucking expensive, but we both thought it was totally worth it haha. After Hot Topic we went to Pink because I was in desperate need of some new pants, but I won’t actually wear anything that’s not yoga pants/running leggings haha. While we were in there Luke and I both decided that I don’t look like I belong in that store, but dammit I like they’re yoga pants!!! And I got a very pretty pair while we were there. ๐Ÿ™‚

So yeah, after being adults we reverted into teenagers, went to the mall, and bought Green Day merch and collectible nerd stuff. It was great!

img_5321

After our nerdy needs were satisfied we decided to go eat at Bo Lings, because we absolutely neededย Chinese food. If you’ve never been to a Bo Lings you totally need to go! They have some super awesome Asian Cuisine for a pretty decent price. My huge plate of noodles and bowl of egg drop soup was only $12 and Luke’s sweet and sour chicken and soup was $13. Anyway, funnily enough, I was the one who wanted Chinese food but I actually ended up getting Singapore rice noodles. Not gonna lie thought, I was super proud of myself for trying something new. I don’t usually do that haha. Plus it ended up being super yummy and I have all sorts of left overs, because look at all that food!!

35d63a9a-8d11-4107-a876-1947ef9a7d35

After we stuffed our faces full of delicious Asian cuisine we took our dogs to the dog park because we felt really bad that they had to be locked up when Niko was here. Haha we probably would have taken them to the park anyway though. We’re always at the dog park, but when you have 3 border collies it’s basically necessary.

img_5265

This photo is actually from Wednesday, but like I said, we’re always there and I liked this photo.ย

After the dog park we chilled at home for a little bit. Niko kept barking/howling last night so he woke us up quite a few times last night. That coupled with all the running around we did, we were both exhausted and ended up napping. It was really nice though. ๐Ÿ™‚ And then at 5 pm Luke had to go to his weekend job and now ย here I am at 6:14 pm. I’m currently washing our couch cushion covers because Niko got them all dirty. I also desperately need to vacuum and mop because Niko got wet and muddy and then came into my kitchen and shook mud everywhere…So I guess I’m going to go deal with that right now.

I hope you had a great Friday! I know I sure did!!

Sometimes I actually wear makeup.ย

Holy Hell Hamstrings!!

Hahaha not gonna lie, I only went with that title because alliteration. I believe today is day 12 of half marathon training.

Seriously though, my hamstrings are just totally fucked today. They are tight, sore, and it’s hard to walk. Which is super weird because usually it’s my quads that put me into this situation. They are chronically tight which has caused me hip and shin issues in the past. But that’s a whole other thing, and they’re aren’t giving me any issues at the moment. Well, fingers crossed, but I’ve been making a point to make sure that my quads don’t give me anymore issues haha. But anyway, I feel like my hamstring tightness was caused by my pushing on the uphills yesterday. The half marathon I’m training for is crazy hilly, so I’m trying to focus more on hill work this time around. And at the price of my hamstrings apparently!

So today I was supposed to do an easy 3 miler and I seriously considered just toughing it out and going for it, but eventually I decided that would have just done more harm than good. So I’m switching today and a rest day around. Problem solved! Well hopefully haha.

Now I didn’t just sit around and hope my hamstrings would feel better. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This morning I did a few stretches and foam rolled them, my calves, and quads while drinking my coffee and watching Netflix. Not gonna lie, I’ve been on a Netflix bender lately. I’m currently watching Women Behind Bars. Interesting and kinda sad stuff.

Anyway, after I did some stretching and foam rolling my hamstrings felt a bit better so I decided to dye my hair. Haha since it’s such a long process it’s a lot easier to do on a day when I don’t do any kind of workout. Or anything really. It takes a little over 3 hours for the whole process to finish ( an hour and a half for the dye it sit in my roots, an hour and a half for the dye to sit in the rest of my hair, and not to mention the time it takes to apply the dye and then shower). And I don’t exactly like to do much but sit when I have the dye in my hair because I don’t want to get it all over the place. That would really suck.

So while I was sitting with the dye in my hair, my mom called and told me that she and my brother are on their way to Illinois from Colorado and they want to stop at my house on there way there. So obviously I told them that was fine, I just needed to know when they were going to be here because my dad’s dog is with them and Lily and Dean don’t get along with him. Finn’s never met him before and I plan to keep it that way because my dad’s dog is a 120 pound Caucasian Shepard and my dogs are 35-45 pound border collies and any altercations that they might get into wouldn’t end well for them.

But anyway, after the dye was done sitting in my hair I took a nice hot shower to rinse it all out and whatnot. That had definitely helped my hamstring situation. They felt much more relaxed after that. ๐Ÿ™‚ Then I just kinda picked up the house and waited for my mom and brother to get here.

They showed up around 3 pm with monster dog Niko and Ace (who is a very good boy) in tow. My poor dogs had to be put up, but it was for there own good. My brother napped for a while and my mom and I just hung out.

Once Lukr got home from work he grilled some hamburgers and we all hung out for a while. I guess my moms decided they’re staying the night so I guess well see how that goes.

Until next time.

The Streak Lives On…But Just Barely

So I’m going to start off this post with a little bit of TMI; PMS has been absolutely kicking my ass since about last Friday.

I haven’t been sleeping well, I’m exhausted, moody, hungry, and I’ve been having the worst cravings ever (which doesn’t help with the moodiness, by the way, especially when you don’t have whatever it is that you’re craving). Ugh, being a person of the female variety really sucks fucking ass sometimes.

I’ve seriously been on the pill for 10 years, so I don’t even know if feeling like this is normal for me or not…but it seriously makes me contemplate going off the pill and getting a non hormonal IUD. Ugh but I’ve read way too many horror stories about IUD’s, and Chance scares me, so yeah…I’m probably going to end up talking to my doctor about it at my next check up.

So that’s been making getting out of bed and getting at least a mile of running done kinda difficult, but hormones and birth control aren’t the intended topic of this post, so moving on.

So looking back at last week’s recap, I’m really not doing as bad as I think I am, it’s just the getting out and doing it that’s getting really tough. Friday’s 2 miler was particularly sucky, but I was experimenting with running without my shoes, so I had that to distract me for the last little bit, Saturday was fun because I got to run in the snow, same with Sunday, although I really didn’t want to go out that day because I was super tired.

Monday was interesting, because all of my preferred winter running gear was stuck in the washing machine and had been since Sunday night (that’s a whole other thing that I’ll get to in a second), so I had to run in what was the absolute worst outfit ever. My sock and shoe situation was the same as usual, thank goodness because if it wasn’t I probably just would have given up on the whole streak thing. I had on a pair of tights that are too big and don’t have a drawstring (pants without drawstrings are literally the bane of my existence. Along with clothing that lacks pockets), those were under a pair of old, stained, stretched out, and way to big sweat pants. At the very least those have a drawstring, but it doesn’t do much good, I mean, you can only pull it so tight. On top I had a Victory Secret sports bra, not my favorite for running, those tend to chafe me under my arms after a while but since I wasn’t going far it didn’t matter. On top of that I had a too tight pull over that has sleeves that are too long and also super tight, so range of motion in my shoulders/arms was severely lacking, and getting to my Garmin was difficult. Over that I wore Luke’s Under Armour hoodie that I always steal. It comes down to almost my knees, so it’s huge on me, which is normally comfy, but not while running. So while doing my mile I simultaneously felt like I was being squeezed to death, while all of my clothes fell off. Oh and to top it all off, the tip of the thumb on my right glove had a hole in it, which wouldn’t have been an issue if it didn’t feel like -10 outside. By the time I finished I couldn’t feel my thumb and I’m kinda surprised that I didn’t get frost bite.

Alright now that that’s all out of the way, I can tell the washing machine story. So for the last 2 and 1/2 ish weeks our front loading washing machine hasn’t been working properly. Near the end of the cycle it would get an error code and the door wouldn’t unlock and you couldn’t run it anymore on any cycle. So after looking up the error code we learned that it was a draining issue. Alright, after fiddling with the drain hose and unplugging and plugging the machine back in, we were able to get the door unlocked, run a drain and spin cycle (because everything would be sopping wet after a normal cycle), and that would be that. While super annoying, that worked for a while.

Both Luke and I kept saying we were going to find the warranty and call someone to come look at it, but we kept putting it off. I guess neither of us were too fond of that idea. Well on Sunday it stopped near the end of the cycle so I unplugged it and then completely forgot about it until the next morning. I tried all the usual tricks to get the damn thing to drain and get the door unlocked but at this point nothing was working. So Luke and I both did a bit of research and were texting each other back and forth about what we were finding on the good old interweb. We figured out that there was a filter somewhere in the machine that needed cleaned out. The only thing we couldn’t agree on was how to get to the thing, as we had both read different things, so we just decided we’d figure it out once he got home from work.

So yeah, that’s how my winter running gear got stuck in the washer and why I had to run in the worst assortment of stuff ever.

Once Luke got home from work (around 5:45 pm) we got to work. After doing more reading, and watching a billion videos on YouTube, we learned that we had to take off the top panel, the panel that has all the buttons and electrical stuff on it, the door, and the rest of the front panel.  I’m not even going to bother explaining how we ended up doing all of that because it took forever, and was an absolutely shitty process. Just know that we eventually got it all off and found this stupid filter.

Upon opening said filter, literally 5 gallons of water came rushing out. We knew this was going to happen, but that still didn’t make it a pleasant experience. We ended up using every towel we own, most of our dish/hand towels, and a shop vac, but we still ended up working with a bunch of water on the floor. And because that wasn’t bad enough, Winchester decided this was a opportune moment to use the litter box (which is located in the laundry room) and kick cat litter all over the wet floor. So now we were working in freezing cold cat litter filled water. Fun fun fun.

Once the water was drained and partially cleaned up, we finally got the filter out and promptly learned that yup, that was definitely the problem. It was full of almost 2 years worth of dog hair (most of which belonged to my brother in laws dog, I might add, because he absolutely refuses to brush the damn thing or clean up so his hair gets everywhere because he’s part lab /husky so he sheds a new freaking dogs worth of hair every. Single. Day. But I’m not bitter about it or anything, she said sarcastically), and gunk, and just complete nastiness. So we pulled all of that shit out of the filter, rinsed it off, and put it back in.

Yup, fixing the problem was that freaking easy. It was getting to it that was the hard part. Go figure. Probably because they want you to call a service technician to come and do it for you, but we ain’t about that life. Oh, and did I mention this is supposed to be done every month? So once a month they want you to call someone to come do this for you. Yeah, not gonna happen.

Anyway, so getting everything put back together didn’t take as long as taking it apart did, but it still took a while. We finally got it done though, plugged the washing machine back in, turned it on and the door was unlocked. That was a good sign. So we added a few wet towels to my now unstuck running gear, poured some detergent into the slot, turned it on the normal cycle, hit start and…IT DIDN’T FUCKING WORK!!!!!!!!!!

Luke and I just looked at each other with absolute defeat smeared across our faces. By then it was almost 9 pm, neither of us had eaten since lunch, we were cold, wet, dirty, and so done with this damn washing machine. After a few deep breaths Luke said that maybe he plugged the power to the door in upside down, and he thought maybe he could get to it without taking the whole thing apart again. After some fiddling and lots of yelling, he got it unplugged and then plugged back in what he hoped was the right way. So we started her up again and thank the lord baby Jesus hallelujah, we got it started! Then 45 minutes later, the cycle finished and I swear to God I’ve never heard a more beautiful sound than the little chime that the washing machine does when a cycle is done. I’m pretty sure it moved me so much that I teared up a little bit (ok, now I’m just being over dramatic).

So I put everything into the dryer (which has been working just fine, knock on wood) and then we went to bed and passed the fuck out. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my washing machine story.

After all of that hard work and drama, you’d thing that I’d finally end up getting a goodnight’s sleep, right? Well that’s where you’d be wrong! I tossed and turned all night, kept alternating between being freezing cold and ridiculously hot, apparently woke Luke up a few times (yeah, he wasn’t too happy with me this morning), and to top it all off, I woke up a little after 4:45 with a terrible headache and couldn’t get back to sleep. Oh man, that was awful, I’m a morning person, but not that much of a morning person, ya dig?

Anyway, I tried going back to sleep, but after a few minutes I knew that just wasn’t going to happen, so I got up, made coffee, took some ibuprofen, started a load of laundry (we fixed it, might as well use it), and started writing this post.

Around 7:30 it was finally pretty light out, so I decided I needed to go run. Ugh I really really really didn’t want to run. I did though. I finally got my ass out the door around 7:45 and did what was basically an unstructured hill workout. I ran to “the big hill”, ran up it, ran down a “little hill” then ran back up that, ran back down the “big hill” , then ran home. That got me to 2 miles and I am a-ok with that. In my weekly recap I mentioned that I’m working my way back up to 20 miles a week, but I feel like I’m going to be lucky if I hit 16 again this week. Oh well, at this point my only goal for this week is keeping my streak going. I mean, I’ve come too far to quit now, I’ve only got 12 more days to go!

American Idiot is the only playlist appropriate for days like today.

Upon returning home, I found the lucky cat my great grandma gave me when I was like 5, broken on the floor. I thought I heard something crash and break before I got out of bed this morning. I’m pretty sure one of that cats was trying to get on my bookshelf and knocked it off, so that’s awesome. I’m pretty sure it can be fixed with a little super glue, but I’m still not happy about it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Yeah, I changed right back into my pajamas when I got home.

After my run I had second breakfast (because what’s even the point of being a runner if you don’t get 2 breakfasts), started another load of laundry, showered, cleaned the rabbits’ cage (which in retrospect I realized I probably should have done before I showered, but whatevs), finished cleaning up our mess from last night in the laundry room, and now here we are!

I’m thinking I’m going to do a little yoga, eat some lunch, take a quick nap, and then see where the day takes me after that.

I hope your day is going a little better than mine has been.
