Happy First Day Of Spring!!

Hahaha flowers like that don’t bloom this time of year here in the Midwest. I just really like this photo (I took it during our family vacation in Florida last July). There are a bunch of daffodils popping up around my neighborhood though, and some of them have started to bloom!

Anyway, we are starting to get some spring-like weather in my part of Kansas. The air is starting to warm up and it rained pretty much all day yesterday. That’s typical spring time weather. We really needed it though. Things were really dry here. Haha and I was pretty excited about that because I love rainy days and think that running in the rain is a lot of fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ And yesterday’s 3 miler did not disappoint! I got soaked pretty fast. I also got frostnip on my legs because it was in the low 40’s when I ran. I probably should have put on my wind pants over my running tights. They’re usually pretty good at keeping me relatively dry. But oh well, it really wasn’t that bad and the redness, itchiness, and irritation that came with that was all gone by this morning. That was still totally worth all the fun I had in the rain yesterday.

img_0458-1

This morning’s run was nowhere near as fun though. I actually procrastinated doing it by making myself an actual decent breakfast. Who does that?!? Me apparently…

Usually in the morning I can’t be bothered to make anything exciting for breakfast. Sometimes I throw a few frozen, whole wheat waffles in the toaster and then slather them with peanut butter and honey. Other days I’ll just grab a piece of fruit and a cheese stick. Or on really lazy day’s I’ll just eat a Honey Stinger waffle along with my coffee. But I knew running wasn’t going to be very exciting today, so I took a little bit of extra time with my breakfast. I toasted some bread, spread some avocado on it, topped that with sliced, cherry tomatoes, and then fried an egg to go on that as well. Hahaha I know that doesn’t sound too difficult, but in the morning I never feel like putting that much effort into what I’m eating. ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_0467-1

I did eventually go out and get my run done, though. My 5k training plan called for 2 easy miles followed by a couple of strides, but those 2 miles sure didn’t feel easy… It actually seems to me that most of the “easy” runs I do don’t actually feel easy. They tend to feel more like I’m running through cold molasses. Oh well, I still did it though! Well, the 2 miles. I kinda sorta skipped the strides. I just wasn’t feeling it enough to do those.

img_0469

But on the bright side, running seems to be going a lot better this week than it did last week! I know it’s only Tuesday, but I’m thinking the rest of the week is going to go pretty well. But maybe I’m only saying that because tomorrow is a rest day and then for Thursday my training plan calls for 30 minutes of cross training, so I wont actually have to run again until Friday. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But still, I’m a lot happier about running this week than I was last week, so at least that’s something. ๐Ÿ™‚

But anyway, now that spring is here I really need to start thinking about what I want to plant in my garden and I’m going to have to start tilling and preparing my soil here before too long. So far I know I’m definitely going to be growing my staples; tomatoes, banana peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, lettuce, and watermelon. I actually want to grow my vine plants on some kind of structure this year to help make weeding and harvesting a little bit easier. I’ve got a few ideas for that and Luke and I will be starting work on those soon. I also really wish I could get root vegetables to grow a little easier here, but they never do well because the soil here is so full of clay. A lot needs to be done to remedy that…Or you can do raised beds filled with good quality soil but those are kind of expensive to make. Maybe one day though. But for now we’re planning on sticking with plants that we know do well here.

img_6329.jpg

A small harvest from last summer. That watermelon was sooooo good!! Haha I’m on a mission to grow several really good watermelons this year! It seems like each year I’ve grown them I’ve gotten bigger, better melons. And usually a few more than the year before. So I guess I must be learning something! And hopefully if that trend keeps up, I should end up with 5 or 6 really good watermelons this year! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now with the addition of our 5 chickens, we should end up getting a pretty decent amount of food from our backyard this year! I’m so freaking excited about having fresh eggs! I can’t wait for my chickens to start laying!! They’ve still got a while to go before they get to that point though. They are doing very well and growing bigger and getting more feathers every day! And as it starts getting even warmer they’re going to be able to spend a little bit more time outside. So far they’ve only been out twice for about 10-15 minutes at a time, just to make sure they didn’t get too cold. But in maybe two or three weeks, as long as it’s warm enough, we’ll be able to move them outside permanently. Haha I have a feeling we wont get that lucky though, it’s probably still going to be pretty chilly in April. If they were fully grown the cold wouldn’t be much of an issue, but when they’re young it’s very important that they’re kept warm.

Oh man, between my garden, the chickens, training for my 5k in May, training for my half marathon in November, the dogs, rabbits, and all of my other critters, plus another vacation we’re going to be going on with Luke’s family, I’m going to be crazy busy this spring and summer! It should be fun though! And besides, I’d much rather be busy than bored. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That’s all I’ve got for today! But what about you?

What are you looking forward to this spring? Any exciting plans?

Do you grow a garden? What’s you’re favorite thing to grow?

Does your city allow you to keep chickens? Would you if you could?ย (Technically my city doesn’t allow you to do it without a permit, but when have I ever let rules stop me?!? Luckily my neighbors are cool with it though, so it should be fine. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

ย I hope you’ve had a terrific Tuesday!

March 1st, 2018

The last few days have been kinda boring here in Colorado. Mostly because my dad and brother have to work, but also because my stomach has been kinda bothering me. Probably because I’ve lived off of Chinese food and pizza since Tuesday… As fun as that sounds it’s not doing my body any good. Haha my options were very limited though. But my dad and I went to the store last night and got stuff to make smoothies, Super Hero muffins, and all sort of good stuff like that. ๐Ÿ˜

So I ended up spending quite a bit of time in the kitchen, but first I had to get a run in! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I hadn’t run in 2 days, so I figured I should today. I didn’t feel like going far though so “short and speedy” was the name of the game today. Although I’m not sure of you could actually call what I did speedy haha. Dealing with the elevation is still pretty tough (I’ve been told it can take several months to actually acclimate to it, and I’m definitely not going to be here for that long), so I just went with what felt hard and did 2 miles of intervals. So the elevation seems to wear me out pretty quick and like I said, I’m not feeling great from all of the junk food, so I ate a Honey Stinger waffle before this run. Not something I’d typically do before such a short run, but I like to think it helped. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After I got done with my run I showered and realized just how tired I was. Haha have I mentioned that the elevation wears me out? ๐Ÿ˜‰ So I napped for a little bit and then began my cooking/cleaning adventures. This morning my dad had started making this vegetable and chicken soup. It’s got butter nut squash, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, onions, beets, and obviously chicken in it. Super healthy, very tasty, but not very visually appealing haha. But anyway, I finished making that. All I had to do was run it through the blender, so I had the easy job. It took FOREVER though. Plus it was a super messy process, so cleaning up once I was done took a while too. I also made Super Hero muffins for my dad to try! Well, it’s more like a Super Hero cake, since they don’t have a muffin tin. But still just as tasty! Also less visually appealing than actual muffins though haha. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Other than running, napping, and cooking, I also spend quite a bit of time doing laundry, walking Niko, playing with Bella, and cleaning up around the apartment. So basically normal everyday things that I’d usually do at home and for different dogs/people haha. But it’s more exciting because it’s all in Colorado, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, earlier today I told my dad about a whisky 5k that’s held in Martin City (which is in the KC area where I live). He told me that’s literally the perfect 5k for him, since he loves whisky and his last name is Martin (and mine was too, before I got married haha). And every finisher gets a medal and a pint glass and since my dad kinda collects pint glasses (and other fancy glasses), I told him that we were gonna have to do it together. So we are! I’m so freaking stoked!! This’ll be his first official 5k and the first time I’ve had someone to run with during a race! It’s gonna be so much fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

img_0116

My dad’s gonna have to get a real pair of running shoes though. On Thanksgiving when we ran around the lake near his apartment he did it in work boots. Yeah, he said that wasn’t fun haha. I told him to go to a specialty running store and have them help him find a pair, so hopefully he has a chance to do that. I mean, he’s only got 10 days to get that done haha.

Whew! I’m super duper stoked right now!

I hope you’ve had a good Thursday!

My First Dental Appointment In 10 Years, Game Plan For My Teeth, And A Toe Update

Yup. You read that right. Until yesterday I hadn’t been to the dentist in 10 years. I got my bottom set of wisdom teeth removed when I was 16, and that was it. Mostly because dental work is freaking expensive. Actually healthcare in general here in the USA is freaking expensive and the whole system, including insurance, can be pretty dumb. Hence the reason I haven’t been to a dentist in 10 years or to a GP in 4 years. I do got to the gynecologist once a year though. That is 100% covered by my insurance, including birth control (as long as I get the generic brand. I’m pretty sure I’d have to pay a little bit to get the name brand. But the generic works for me, so I’m gonna continue having my insurance pay for it). So at least there’s that!

Anyway, my teeth are kinda bad haha. When I was a teenager I didn’t exactly take care of them…I try to take better care of them now, but maybe it’s just too little, too late. My mom’s also told me that my dad’s teeth aren’t so great either, so I might have inherited that from him. Either way, they aren’t great and I’ve had a few (one in particular) that are getting particularly bad. Bad enough that I absolutely had to get them looked at. So finally got a dentist appointment set up to look and the problem, assess what needs to be done, and then refer me to a specialist. Good thing that got set up when it did, because a few days later things really started going downhill for me.

The particularly bad tooth was definitely infected. That was something I was almost positive of. And then on Saturday I got a fever and the pain in that tooth was so bad that I couldn’t really eat much. But since I had a fever I didn’t really feel like eating anyway. Luckily it wasn’t a high fever or anything, although I hadย terribleย body aches. I think they might have been the worst I’ve ever had! My temperature finally came down to my normal of 97.5 on Sunday, so thank goodness that was short lived, but I still couldn’t really eat much. Sad face…

img_9613-1.jpg

My fever on Sunday only got up to 101.7. So not too bad. Haha as a kid I was notorious for getting super high fevers (I’m talking 104, 105 degrees) and I was worried about it getting super high and that would have been terrible.

On Monday I was still having trouble eating, but I saw the dentist at 2 pm and he solved that problem for me haha! But first I got a few x-rays taken of my problem teeth, he look at those and at the teeth themselves and told me what was up and what my options were. After much discussion about what our insurance will or will not cover, and how much money our insurance will actually pay, we finally had a game plan. So, I need two root canals, one extraction, and some other minor work. But I cannot afford to get that all done at once. So for now I’m going to get a root canal and then a crown done in the tooth that’s really causing me problems, then wait a year until our insurance will reset and we’ll have more money available through them, and then get the second root canal done, and then just go from there. So at least we have a plan! ๐Ÿ™‚

So the dentist has referred me to a specialist to get the root canal done, so I need to set that up, but for now he’s put me on antibiotics and pain meds. Specifically, I’m supposed to be taking clidamycin once every 8 hours, and a hydrocodone every 4-6 hours as needed. First off, I didn’t realize he was gonna prescribe me pain meds! I figured he’d tell me to just keep taking ibuprofen. Although, the problem with pain meds is that I don’t like taking them haha. Back when I was 13 and had an appendectomy the hospital sent me home with codeine that I took maybe once or twice. I just didn’t like the way it made me feel. And when I was 16 I had my wisdom teeth they sent me home with Vicodin. I took that twice. It made me puke both times, and I hate puking more than anything in the world, so after that I stopped taking it and just suffered through the pain. That was kinda terrible, but I lived haha. So at first I was kinda skeptical about taking the hydrocodone, but I really wanted to eat, so I took one last night and holy cow did it work!!

Initally right after I took it I was kinda freaking out (hello anxiety) thanks to all of the issues pain meds have given me before. But after about half an hour I felt pretty darn great!! Hydrocodone makes one of my sisters really loopy (she had to take it for her hip dysplasia) so I was wondering if I was going to get the same affect. I didn’t though. I was just felt super float-y and calm and kinda dizzy. But not bad dizzy. It was the dizzy feeling you get when you’re drunk, but without all the grossness that comes after that hahaha. Not gonna lie, it was a fun experience. I think mostly because it did kinda shut my anxiety up for a little bit. Oh and I was finally able to eat, so that was fucking great!! It also made my probably broken toe feel really good too, so that was a nice little benefit. ๐Ÿ™‚ But so far I just took the one at around 3:40 pm yesterday and I’m still pretty much pain free in my tooth, so that’s pretty freaking great. But I’m sure the antibiotics are kicking in and helping that situation as well.

But unfortunalty, I had to stop taking the antibiotics after 2 whole doses (one last night and one this morning). So, I’m allergic to penicillin. I learned that when I was in the hospital after my appendectomy. It made me break out into hives. Which of course I informed the dentist of, hence the clindamycin. But it turns out I’m allergic to that too. A few hours after taking my second dose this morning I started breaking out in a rash. It’s not too bad, but it itches and is super annoying… So I called the pharmacist and then the dentist earlier and they both put me down as allergic to it in their records and now the dentist is calling the pharmacist to try to figure out what I should take, and I guess one of them will call be back when they do. Damn…I was so prepared too! I’ve got this gross probiotic supplement that I’ve taken twice now, andย  also have some greek yogurt on the ready too. Haha oh well, at least I’ll be prepared for when they figure out another kind of antibiotic to give me.

img_9654

Finn thought he wanted some of this gross probiotic supplement. Finn was wrong.

And on top of all of that, my toe is probably broken. Well, I’m thinking I probably just fractured it, but either way, I’m just having all sorts of fun right now…So the toe thing happened last Wednesday, when I slipped, fell, and hit it on the edge of my couch. Oh and then ran 4 miles on it because initially it only hurt a little bit and wasn’t bruised or swollen or anything. That was probably a bad idea and I haven’t run since. I have been able to stationary bike a bit though, so at least there’s that. ๐Ÿ™‚ Today most of the swelling has gone down, but it’s still really really bruised. Haha but it doesn’t hurt at all this morning. Thanks hydrocodone!! I’ve been doing my best to stay off of it, icing it, keeping it elevated, and taping it to the toe next to it. So hopefully it’ll heal quickly. But so far it seems to be taking it’s sweet time…

img_9658-1

Haha see that purple line going down my toe? I’m pretty sure that’s the exact spot my poor toe hit the couch. ๐Ÿ™‚

So in hopes to speed up the healing process I made some bone broth over the weekend, using the recipe from Run Fast Eat Slow. I’ve just been drinking it by it’s self, and it is really really good!! Not sure if it’s actually going to help speed up the healing process or not, but it’s suppsed to be full of calcium, magnesium, collagen, and all sorts of other good stuff, so I figure it just might help. ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_9563

So yeah, that’s my life currently. I’ve got a probably fractured toe, a definitely infected tooth (which is getting taken care of soon), and now I’m having an allergic reaction to my antibiotics, which I’ve had to stop taking. Oh man I’m having a hell of a time right now…

I suppose now I’m gonna go slather myself in topicalย benadryl because I don’t have the oral kind, and cannot go obtain any because my husband and I only have one car, and he’s at work. And wait and see what kind of antibiotic they’re planning on trying on me next…Hopefully they’ll find one that works for me.

I hope you’re Tuesday is fantastic!

Thursday Things

Ok, first and foremost, I am so super duper stoked about Honey Stinger’s new snack bars!!!!

img_9391

I’m totally on board with anything to do with nut butter, chocolate, or honey. Put all three of them together and I’m one happy camper! Seriously though, I can’t wait for these to come out! They look soooo good! But the don’t become available until April, so I guess I’ve got a little bit to wait hahaha. But you can check out Honey Stinger’s blog for the rest of the details, if you’re interested. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about new, healthier snack before. Becoming a runner changes people in weird, awesome ways like that haha.

Anyway, enough about snacks for now. Lets talk about dogs!!

Today is Lily’s birthday! Yay! Our baby turned 8 years old today! ๐Ÿ™‚

img_9397

The birthday girl, this morning! Haha I don’t know if it’s sad or impressive that I’ve made her sit and stay on the porch for photos so often, that at this point she know’s exactly what I want.

Lily is one of the most awesome and special dogs ever! I might be a little bit biased though. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But she was my first border collie. The first dog Luke and I ever owned together. Farm bred and raised, she is 35 pounds of pure bad ass. She’s not afraid to stand nose to nose with a 1,000 pound steer. Hell, she actually enjoys it! She’s the only dog I own that has any kind of herding skills/experience. She’s lived on a farm, in what I can only describe as “the hood”, in an apartment, and now in a house in a small town, and has taken it all in stride. She’s also pretty well traveled for a dog! She’s lived in Illinois and Kansas, and has traveled with Luke and I to Missouri, Minnesota, Colorado, and all of the states in between. She’s helped load cattle onto trailers, has climbed a (small) mountain, can track/hunt, has helped raise two puppies, can be trusted around small children (even when they’re taking her bone that she was chewing on away from her), trekked through countless amounts of woods, is a fantastic guard dog, incredibly loyal, and was even the ring bearer in our wedding. Lily is one awesome bitch.

If I could breed her to Finn I totally would. They’d make fantastic puppies. But she’s getting older, Finn’s still too young, and when she was 6 months old she got hit by a car and had her hip broken, and her vet at the time didn’t think she’d be able to give birth without complications. So that kinda sucks. I think a Lily/Finn cross would result in some really great dogs. They both have great instincts, working drive, temperaments, and are both pretty healthy (although if and when the breeding of two dogs happens under my watch I’d make sure to get their hips and eyes checked first. bad hips and eyes are two things that tend to be cause for concern in border collies that you don’t want to be passed on, but that’s a whole thing that I don’t need to worry about right now). But oh well. Lily’s good genetics are just gonna have to end with her. Finn might end up be a different story though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh man, my dogs are my pride and joy, and I could talk about them for days on end hahaha. But I’ll stop for now. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_7787

Yup. I’m that crazy dog lady who gets weird looks, because I insist on taking photos like this. BUT LOOK AT HOW CUTE AND SMART AND WELL BEHAVED MY PUPPIES ARE!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, tomorrow is grocery day, and oh boy can I tell! Haha we are kinda running low on pretty much everything as we usually are the day before we go on our shopping adventures. So that means I have to get creative with my meals. So today for lunch I threw together some canned goods (corn, stewed tomatoes, and black beans), fried up a couple eggs, put that all on some brown rice and topped it with some guacamole. Kinda random, but it actually ended up being one of the most delicious lunches I’ve had in a while! Just proves that it definitely pays off to get creative sometimes! ๐Ÿ™‚

img_9404

There’s always at least one border collie under my feet…Today there were two.

Breakfast and dinner definitely weren’t that exciting though! All I had for breakfast was coffee (which I add soy milk, honey, and coconut oil to) and a Honey Stinger waffle. Breakfast of champions right there haha. And dinner is going to be a bowl of boring oatmeal. Not exciting, but hey, I made it work. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m pretty excited about grocery day though. I LOVE grocery shopping haha.

img_9324

My not-so-exciting breakfast. Bubbles was unimpressed.ย

Haha like 90% of this post has just been me going on about food. But I mean, who doesn’t like food talking about food?!? I know I sure do. Food, dogs, and running. I think that sums up my life quite nicely. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Although I didn’t do any running today. My legs are kinda sore and tired from a workout I did on Tuesday. So I gave them a little break and spent some time on my stationary bike instead. Boring. But it got the job done. Followed that up with some stretching and foam rolling and my legs were much happier after that.

Anyways, I suppose that’s all I’ve got for today. I know I don’t really have anything all that exciting going on right now haha. But I’ve got a few things I’m gonna start working towards very soon. I’ve got a 5k coming up in May and I’m actually going to train for it! The only two other 5k’s I’ve ever done I didn’t train for at all. I knew that I could cover the distance and that’s all I cared about. But now I have a time goal in mind and I’m going to need to train specifically to get there! But I’ll talk more about that later. ๐Ÿ™‚

For now,

Happy Friday eve!

Friday Fives: Things I’m Super Into Right Now

1. Zensah FeatherWeight Compression Leg Sleeves

Ok so not gonna lie, I’ve only worn these things a few times now, but I already love them! Zensah sure wasn’t kidding, they really are feather light! They also provide a good amount of compression without feeling too tight or uncomfortable like other pairs of compression socks (this is my first pair of sleeves haha) have made me feel. Oh and the bra is pretty nice too. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_6502

2. Sleepy Time Tea

This stuff is a life saver! I am very bad at falling asleep, and I’ve experimented with a few things over the years, but this stuff works the best for me! The herbs in this tea calm me down, make me relax, and help me fall asleep a little bit faster. ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Steel Pantherย

Oh my gosh I’m so in love with this band! Haha Luke have just been recently getting into them, but we saw them play before Stone Sour on Tuesday and it was amazing! Seriously, go check them out. They are fucking great.

4. Bob’s Burgersย

Luke and I recently started using Hulu because Netfilx alone just wasn’t cutting it hahaha (we don’t have cable). So yeah, I’ve been watching a lot of Bob’s Burgers since we started using it and it’s been great. I don’t care what anyone says, this show is great and I’ve been very much enjoying watching an episode while drinking my coffee every morning. ๐Ÿ˜‰

4910

5. Oatmeal

Oatmeal used to be one of my all time favorite foods. Like, it was one of my go to foods and I could eat it for every meal of the day. But then I kinda fell off of the healthy eating bandwagon for a while, but now that I’m getting back into it I’m really loving oatmeal again. Right now my favorite it oatmeal topped with bananas and walnuts. Yum! So good!! ๐Ÿ™‚

What I Ate Wednesday: 4/12/15

Fucking Finn decided to wake up at 4:30 in the morning…and then proceed to whine and cry until 6. He didn’t want to eat or drink or go outside. He just wanted to get up and for everyone else to be up with him. Around 6:30 I finally got him to quit being needy and go outside and play with Dean while I made and ate breakfast, and then around 8 am he came back inside and all he wanted to do was cuddle and sleep. Little bastard.

img_2791

On top of Finn waking everyone up super early, I spent most of the night tossing and turning so that really sucks. I tend to over eat and eat a bunch of junk the day after a not so great night’s sleep. And unfortunately that tends to happen to me a lot. For the most part, if I can fall asleep I’m usually good (although that’s not always true), but falling asleep tends to be really hard for me. Both of my sisters have the same problem and I think my mom does too, so maybe its a genetic thing. Does anyone have any tips on how to make falling asleep easier that doesn’t involve medication? I’ve tried melatonin supplements before but they didn’t really do much for me. Chamomile tea definitely helps me relax, but it’s never really helped me sleep. Same with pretty much every “bed time yoga” video there is on YouTube. It just really sucks that something so necessary and important is so hard to accomplish.

Anyways, I figured a “what I ate Wednesday” post would be a good idea. At the very least it helped me stay accountable and not go completely off the wall with my eating just because I’m tired.

Breakfast:

  • french toast (2 slices of whole wheat bread, 1 egg, 1/4 cup soy milk, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and some cinnamon, fried in 1 tbs coconut oil)
  • black coffee

I figured a little treat was in order for this morning, so I made myself some french toast. All things considered though, french toast really isn’t all that bad. I mean, obviously mine had a good amount of sugar in it, but it had a little bit of protein, whole grains, and healthy fats, so all in all, not a bad way to start the day!

img_2805

Lunch:

  • tri colored rotini with tomato/basil/garlic pasta sauce

I probably should have added some veggies to that, but I didn’t so whatever.

img_2807

After lunch I walked all 3 dogs then spent 25 minutes on my stationary bike. According to my training scheduled, I was supposed to cross train for an hour but I got super bored around 23 minutes so I quit at 25 haha. Oh well, at least I crossed trained for a little bit. ๐Ÿ™‚

Snack:

  • fresh pineapple
  • A nature valley oats and honey bar

img_2810Dinner:

  • protein shake (1 frozen banana, scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 cup vanilla soy milk)

I kinda forgot how good a nice cold protein shake could be on a warm day. Honestly a smoothie would have been better, but aside from frozen bananas I don’t have any smoothie fixing. So I guess that’s just going to have to wait for my next grocery trip.

I am literally the world’s worst selfier. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I suppose all in all that’s not too bad for a day of eating! As usual eating enough vegetables is my biggest downfall. But veggies are just no fun! I’d rather eat fruit or French toast haha. Oh well, at least I didn’t eat a bunch of junk or anything. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

What I Ate Wednesday: 3/15/17

I’ve been doing a lot better food-wise since my last “What I Ate Wednesday” post. I did have a bunch of pizza and a few beers one night, but other than that things have been pretty good! I’ve even lost 2 pounds! Not bad, if you ask me. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m definitely headed in the right direction in setting healthier eating habits.

Breakfast:

  • Sausage/egg sandwich (breakfast sausage and 1 scrambled egg on 2 slices of whole wheat bread).
  • Coffee with 1/2 cup soy milk, 2 tbs honey, and 1 tbs coconut oil.

Post-run/Pre-strength workout snack:

  • 1 chocolate Honey Stinger Waffle

This was my last chocolate flavored waffle. Sad face. Oh well, I still have a bunch of honey flavored waffles, and those are really good too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Processed with Rookie Cam

Lunch:

  • Cabbage and cauliflower roasted with 1 tbs olive oil, and some chicken.

img_2247

Afternoon Snack:

  • Peanut butter/honey sandwich (2 tbs peanut butter and 1 tbs honey on 2 slices of whole wheat bread).

img_2224

Dinner:

  • 1 cup of plain Cheerios with 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt, 1 tbs chia seeds, and 1 tbs honey.

Ok, but yogurt mixed with cereal is sooo good!!

img_2249

Evening Snack:

  • Another cup of Cheerios
  • A couple of clementines

I don’t have a picture of either, but whatever. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ok so I eat a lot of honey haha. But I have a horrible sweet tooth, and I figure honey is a much better alternative to excessive amounts of sugar, or high fructose corn syrup, or any of those artificial sweeteners. I mean, at least it’s good for you. Plus I usually get raw, local honey (the stuff I currently have is local, but not raw unfortunately), so at the very very least I’m helping to support my local bee keepers! And I’m seriously all about that life! I keep telling Luke we need to plant all sort of bee friendly flowers in our landscaping, but we just haven’t gotten around to it yet..Anyway, all in all I’d say I made some good choices today. ๐Ÿ™‚

Edit:

So like 5 minutes after I typed the sentence about us not getting around to planting bee friendly plants in our landscaping, my mother in law sent me a message on Facebook about the neat thing Cheerios is currently doing. They are giving away  wildflower seed packets for free (seriously, they are 100% free, I didn’t even have to pay for shipping)! So I officially don’t have an excuse to not have bee friendly flowers in my garden anymore. I love bees and I love Cheerios, so I’m so freaking stoked about this right now! Go get your free seed packet here and help #bringbackthebees! ๐Ÿ
