Christmas Adventures

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

I sure did! It was super, crazy busy as well!

Luke and I woke up at 3 am Christmas Eve morning so that we could pack up the truck, load the dogs, and then drive to Illinois. We wanted to leave super early so that we’d be there in time to see Luke’s dad after he got off work (he’s been working midnight’s), before he had to go to bed, and to be able to partake in other Christmas festivities. Waking up at 3 am isn’t fun hahaha, but it was worth it to get to Illinois around 8:30 that morning and to do stuff with everyone.

This is my “I love being awake at 3 am” face.

When we got to Illinois our first stop was Luke’s dad’s house. We got there just a little after he had gotten home from work. So we hung out there all morning with Luke’s dad, step mom, and two of his brothers. Mostly I watched the youngest brother play Pokemon on our Nintendo Switch that Luke brought for him to borrow. Everyone else played Call Of Duty in the other room, but I’m not into that, so we sat together and talked about all things Pokemon while he played. We had all 4 dogs with us and they have a dog too, so we had quite a full house going! Luckily Dean, Finn, Whiskey, and their dog Lexi wanted to spend most of their time outside playing together, so at least we didn’t have all of them underfoot at all times. But Lily isn’t into all of that, so she spent most of this time chillin’ within the mountain of presents that had accumulated under the tree. Luke’s dad’s side of the family takes Christmas very seriously hahaha.

That afternoon we headed over to one of Luke’s Grandma’s. We hung out there for a while, opened some presents, and got all caught up. That was nice. πŸ™‚ Once we were done there we went to my Grandma’s house. She and my uncle went all out and made a bunch of yummy food. My mom came over with her friend and we had a little party. After that Luke and I went back to his dad’s where we stayed the night.

Me, my mom, and my grandma.

Everyone was up bright and early on Christmas morning! We had presents from Santa to open!! πŸ˜‰ Apperently everyone was on Santa’s Nice List this year, because we all ended up with small piles of new stuff. Hahaha like I said, that side of the family takes Christmas very seriously. Obviously we all got a bunch of cool stuff, but I’m particularly fond of the wearable, blanket/snuggie type thing my father-in-law got me. It’s pretty freaking awesome! I was also given lots of socks and a pair of slippers, because they know I love socks and that my feet are always cold hahaha.

img_7915

After we cleaned up mountains of wrapping paper we all played with our gifts for a little bit while Luke’s dad made everyone breakfast. We didn’t get to hang out there for very long though, we had Luke’s other Grandma’s Christmas party to go to. The pile of gifts they had “under” their tree put my father-in-law’s to shame! Hahaha seriously, this side of the family goes ALL OUT for Christmas! Plus they have all of their kids, grand kids, siblings, uncles, aunts, and an assortment of other people over for Christmas. So there’s always a lot going on, but it’s always nice to get to hang out together. A lot of us don’t get to see each other very often so Christmas is usually when we get to catch up with everyone. We were there for quite a while doing just that, eating a HUGE lunch, and then opening gifts. That always takes up quite a bit of time, but it’s fun! πŸ™‚

Once we were done there we stopped by my Grandma’s again just to say hi. She wasn’t feeling well that day and ended up cancelling the plans she’d had. That was a bit of a bummer, but on the bright side, she was feeling much better the next day. So after we stopped by her house we went back to Luke’s dad’s where we cleaned up a little bit and got ready for Luke’s step mom’s family to come over. When they got there we had a small dinner (thank goodness! I’m not sure anyone could have handled another big meal hahaha), opened more presents, watched a Christmas movie, and for some reason one of the little girls who was there decided I was her new best friend, so we played together. She showed me all of her gifts, showed me how to use them, and made me put some of them together. Haha it was cute. We all had a good time.

After they all left me, Luke, Luke’s dad, step mom, and two of his brothers all played the new Meme board game we had gotten. That was hilarious! Especially since one of Luke’s brother’s is only 11 an didn’t really understand a lot of what was going on. Haha oh man we had a lot of fun though. We didn’t get to play that long though. Luke’s dad had to go to work and his step mom and 11 year old brother had to go to bed. But me, Luke, and Luke’s 18 year old brother ended up staying up for a while playing some game called That’s You on the Playstation, but the game was also connected to an app on our phones. Basically the game asked questions along the lines of “who would do this” or whatever and you had to vote on your phone.. If you and someone else voted for the same person you got points. There were also rounds where you had to draw on selfies of each other. That got out of hand very quickly. There were a lot of dicks and boobs. It was amazing!

We didn’t stay up too late though. The next day we had to get up early and start packing up the truck and helped clean up the house a little bit more. Then we said our goodbyes, and headed over to Luke’s Grandma’s again. We ate lunch with her and then we finally headed back home.

After all of the Christmas festivities and a 5 hour drive all Luke and I wanted to do when we got home was sit back and relax! Unfortunately we couldn’t really do that. First we had to run to the grocery store and pick up some food, because we had NONE in the house. Then I had to tend to the animals and clean up our house a little bit. bring in and put away all of our Christmas gifts, start some laundry, among other things. It was slightly hectic, but Luke ordered pizza and we were finally able to sit down and chill for a few hours before we went to bed.

Whew! Fun times! And we’re going to do it all over again because Luke’s dad has convinced him to come back to Illinois on Monday for New Year’s Eve. Hahaha I’m sure that will be a lot of fun too. But for now, I’m enjoying being back in my own house, having the time and space to actually have some alone time, and sleeping in my own bed. Oh and being able to eat my usual food at my usual times and having veggies that aren’t covered in cheese. I never thought I’d say this, but I was ridiculously happy to start making roasted Brussels sprouts for dinner. πŸ˜‚After all of that holiday fun I’m in desperate need of some nutritious, non-cheese covered food. Unfortunately that probably wont last long, since we’ll be going right back. Hahaha oh well. At least it’ll be fun. πŸ™‚

Throughout all of that I took a short break from running. I got right back at it today though! I just did a slow and easy 2 miles since I still feel really full and sluggish after all of that food, and slightly dehydrated, but other than that it did feel pretty good to get out and moving a little bit! And I’m thinking tomorrow will feel even better now that I’ve re-hydrated a bit and have eaten actual fruits and veggies. πŸ˜‰

Now then, I’ve got some roasted Brussel sprouts, potatoes, and a veggie burger patty that I’m about to go devour! πŸ˜‹

Happy Holidays!!

Christmas Came Early This Year!!

Actually, Christmas kinda comes early every year for my husband and I. You see, we are both terrible at waiting to give each other gifts. πŸ˜‚ I guess we just get too excited about it and we always end up exchanging Christmas gifts early. But honestly it works out well, because we are never home for Christmas anyway. Usually we’re in Illinois with our family.

So yesterday everything we had gotten each other was here and ready yesterday, so we opened Christmas gifts last night. Hahaha you know, just some random Sunday night in the middle of December with no significant meaning or anything. We’re both just incredibly impatient.

After receiving a bag of Picky Oats, a Kurt Cobain Funko POP, a “fuck mug”, and fuzzy cow socks from my husband, I gotta say the man knows me very well! πŸ˜‚

Seriously though, this is the BEST coffee mug ever!! It’s legit my new favorite thing. Hahaha it just makes me so happy. πŸ˜„

Unfortunately I am poor, so all he got from me was a cup. Granted it’s a fancy, monogrammed, whiskey drinking cup. Which he is very into. Hahaha but apparently we were on the same page this year because we both got neat cups for some of our favorite beverages. I guess great minds really do think alike! πŸ˜‰

Anyway, we also had a very holly jolly time on Saturday! Luke took me (and Dean πŸ˜‰) out to a couple of different Christmas light displays! First we went to one that’s really more of a light show. You park in this parking lot of some kind of activity center and tune your radio to a specific station so that the music syncs up with the lights. It is pretty cool! But we didn’t stay long because the second place we went is more fun! Haha well, I think so anyway.

Our next destination was Sar Ko Par Trails Park. We actually went there last year to look at Christmas lights as well! We’ve never been there in the daytime though. But the park is BEAUTIFUL this time of year. They string up almost every tree around this little lake with Christmas lights. It is amazing!

So we walked around the lake a couple of times, just enjoying the lights and taking a bunch of pictures haha. We brought Dean with us because he’s a good boy (actually out of all of our dogs he just does the best around large groups of people and there were A LOT of people there), so I took a bunch of Christmas-y pictures of him. Hahaha and after seeing other dogs there I was just ridiculously proud of how well he behaved. Several times I dropped his leash and told him to sit/stay while I took pictures and he did’t move a muscle until I told him to. But anyway, he seemed to have a lot of fun being somewhere new, getting to smell different things, and not having 3 other dogs with him.

Luke was also a very good sport! He’s not big into Christmas, or taking selfies, or wandering aimlessly around a park at night, but he put up with all of that for me without a single word of complaint. He is the best! πŸ™‚

Oh a man, that was such a fun night!! β€οΈπŸ’š

Then today we received packages from my grandparents in Illinois and Luke’s mom in Minnesota! So we’re going to be calling her, opening those, and continuing on with the Christmas fun later tonight! 😁

I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season!!

Weekly Recap: December 10th-16th, 2018

Holy cow I’ve been tired this week! If anything streaking has definitely taught me how important rest days are! Haha I mean, I already new, but now I REALLY KNOW, ya know? πŸ˜‰ Normally I’d take a day or completely off from running in a week (since I’m not one of those super bad ass people who can run 7 days a week with a couple of easy runs that count as recovery to them) and I’d be running more and feeling a lot better than this. I mean, my body is actually holding up really well! I don’t feel particularly tight or sore or have any niggles of anything going on. I’ve just felt really really tired haha. So I’ve kinda just done the absolute bare minimum this week.

That being said, I’ve been grinding away at this streak! My runs have been short but they’ve also been speedy (for me) and that’s actually been a lot of fun! I’ve really been enjoying it!! πŸ™‚ So I’m gonna keep trucking along and see if I can’t make a PR happen by then end of the year. At this rate I think I might be able to at least go for a pretty speedy mile or 5k time!

Monday:

  • 2 miles

So far my streak has kind of given me an excuse to keep my runs short and sweet. It’s actually been really nice haha!! I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. 😁

Tuesday:

  • 2.76 miles
  • 20 minutes of yoga

So, I guess I didn’t wait long enough for my Garmin to get a GPS signal, because I swear the route I did on Tuesday is actually 3 miles long. Hahaha oh well, close enough. πŸ˜‰ I think I’m going to start doing some of my running after the sun goes down so I can actually see all of the Christmas lights in all of their glory! πŸŽ„πŸ˜Š

Wednesday:

  • 1 mile on the tread
  • 15 minutes strength work

Just a mile to keep the streak going, followed by a little bit of strength work. Nothing fancy, but still good stuff. πŸ˜„

Thursday:

  • 2 miles

I was pretty busy on Thursday. I had Christmas presents to wrap on top of my usual chores. And then I ended up babysitting my neighbor for a while. Her 5th birthday was on Wednesday so I had a gift wrapped for her as well. 😊 But anyway, she was over for a while so I didn’t get any yoga done like I would have liked to . Oh well. The streak is still going strong!

Friday:

    2 miles

Waited until it was relatively dark out to run in Friday so that I could look at Christmas lights! It was also fun because I usually don’t run this late in the day and switching things up like that just make running a little bit more interesting. 😁

Saturday:

  • 1 mile

Just a quick evening mile to keep the steak going! Like I said, I’ve been super tired this week so I didn’t feel like doing much else on Saturday. I got to see some more Christmas lights though. πŸŽ„πŸ˜Š

And after my run I got to see EVEN MORE Christmas lights because Luke took me to two different light displays. That was a lot of fun. 😊

Sunday:

    2.5 miles

I feel like I have a fast 5k in me. I decided to try for it today but I just wasn’t feeling it. It’s gonna happen at some point though!! Haha I’m kinda aiming for a shiny new PR. Who knows, maybe Santa will bring me one for Christmas! πŸ˜‰

So I actually woke up feeling a lot better on Sunday. Apparently I just had a little hump I needed to break through! I think next week is going to go a lot more smoothly than this week did. Not that this week has been bad or anything. I’ve just been tired. But I’ve made it this far so I’m going to keep at it! I’m still aiming to keep my streak going through New Years Day! We’ll see how that goes!

Alrighy! That’s all for now!

Happy Sunday!!

~Ashley

Streaking

As of today I am 20 days into my streak!

Not THAT kind of streak! I’m not sure my neighbors would appreciate that. Or maybe some of them would? Either way I’d rather not find out. πŸ˜‚

No, I’m talking about a running streak! Running at least 1 mile every day. That’s pretty much the only rule to a running streak. Other than that it really doesn’t matter how long you continue your streak, if you run on the trails, treadmill, roads, or track, what time of day you run, or whatever. As long as you’re getting in a mile everyday, your streak lives on! Sure, you can make up any kind of rules for yourself that you want. Maybe you want to run at least a 5k or for 30 minutes every day instead of just 1 mile. Maybe you want your streak to last for a certain number of days or through out a certain season. I think that’s one of the fun things about a running streak! You can make it totally your own!

img_6815-3

For my streak I have a specific time period in mind. I started mine with a turkey trot 5k on Thanksgiving and plan on going through New Years Day. That’s pretty much the extent of my streak. I don’t plan on trying to keep it going any longer than that and my minimum for each run is just a mile. So, nothing too crazy, but still it poses a bit of a challenge! Especially when trying to fit a run in on the days that are crazy busy with holiday fun! So far my most favorite runs have actually been the quick one milers I’ve gotten out and done on Black Friday and last weekend when I was super busy with Christmas shopping, running around several stores, decorating, grocery shopping, cooking, etc. It felt sooooo good to take a quick break from all of that chaos and have a moment to myself. Even if that moment was just me running 1/2 a mile down the street and 1/2 a mile back.

I also thing streaking is a great way to stay motivated! Especially throughout any period that feels a little bit overwhelming and running is just one more thing on your extraordinarily long to-do list. But if you’re anything like me, the thought of skipping out on a challenge like this can really be the kick in the pants you need to get out the door or onto the treadmill, or to the gym, or whatever, and go run! Even if you only have time for a mile, well, 1 mile is better than no miles! Plus your streak will live on! πŸ˜‰

Processed with Rookie Cam

Haha I know I keep “even if it’s just a mile” but honestly streaking has really made me appreciate short, speedy runs that only last for a mile or two. After a summer and fall of half marathon training and upping my running mileage I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel just a tad bit burnt out on longer runs. Streaking has kind of given me the excuse to go short and sweet and I’ve kind of been loving it! Sure, I plan on getting back to more running volume soon, but lately I’ve found the speed I felt like I lost while upping my mileage and it feels GREAT to be using it! Plus since my runs have been shorter it’s all fun and very little pain! Although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t kinda miss the discomfort of trying to get in that last interval of a really hard workout. But I don’t think I’m ready to get back to doing stuff like that just yet. With all of the hustle and bustle and stress of the holiday season I’m very much happy with these fun runs I’ve been having.

Processed with Rookie Cam

Now, I know it can feel a little bit difficult to go out and run when you’re with family. Especially if they had to travel to you or you had to travel to them. It’s easy to feel guilty for wanting a little bit of time for yourself to be away from everyone and just run. Especially if they don’t get the whole running thing. But that’s why I live to get them all involved with it! I’ll tell my grandma, my uncle, my brother, my in-laws, and pretty much anyone I’m spending the holidays with that I’m doing a little running challenge and that I need to run at least a mile every day. And I don’t think they all get why I want to do it, but when they know it’s something that I want to do they’re all usually pretty supportive of it! Plus it’s super hard to skip out on a run when your grandma starts asking if you’ve done your mile for the day. πŸ˜‚ So I’d definitely recommend getting your family involved! And hey, maybe they’ll see you having fun while running and want to pick it up too! Who knows, maybe a turkey trot or a Santa shuffle could end up being a new family tradition!! Hahaha that’s kinda how I got my dad running! We went out for our own little “turkey trot” for Thanksgiving in 2017 and now he’s done a 5k and a half marathon with me! πŸ™‚

img_7436

At this point I kinda feel like I’m trying to sell people on doing their own streaks, and part of me kind of is hahaha mostly just because I’m having so much fun 20 days into mine! But I also just kinda wanted to share my thoughts and a tip or two on streaking thus far.

But streaking is not without its own perils. Especially if you are an injury prone runner like someone I know. Who’s that again?? Oh yeah, that would be me! πŸ˜‰ The person who’s literally gotten hurt at some point and time in almost every half marathon training cycle she’s ever done! This year was actually the exception to that! Which is why I think I’ll actually be able to finish my streak this year! Yes, I’ve attempted this holiday streak several times now, but I’ve never actually finished it due to injuries that I acquired during my half marathon training. But this year I’m happy, healthy, and feeling great! So I think I’m finally going to get this streak done this year!

Anyway, if you tend to be injury prone like me just keep a tab on things. Aches are pretty typical when you start something new in your fitness regime, but if something doesn’t seem right I wouldn’t (and haven’t) risked it. Streaking is fun but getting a serious injury because you kept pushing through when things didn’t feel right just isn’t worth it.

Finishing a streak or having to quite due to illness, injury, or other reasons can also be a little bit disappointing and leave you feeling a little bit empty. Kinda like after finishing a big race! So it can be kind of a bummer once it’s over, but it helps to remember that running is a lifetime sport and there is always a new challenge out there when you’re ready for it! πŸ˜„

So, after I finish this streak I’m thinking a beer mile might be in order! I think at this point my husband is accustom enough to me doing weird things that he’d be willing to help me make that happen. Hahaha and who knows, maybe I can get my dad on board with that as well! πŸ˜‰

Anyway, there are my thoughts on streaking so far! 20 days down 21 more to go! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€˜πŸ»

Happy Tuesday!

Your streaking but not that kind of streaking runner friend,

~Ashley

Weekly Recap: November 26th – December 2nd, 2018

Finally starting to feel a little more normal this week! After my races and then a whole week off from running I was feeling off and having a bit of trouble getting back into the swing of things. I’m getting there though!! This week certainly looked more like a normal running week for me and for that I am extremely grateful! 😊 I feel like starting another holiday run streak has really helped! It’s definitely given me the motivation to get out the door and run, and the more I run the more normal I feel! 😁

Monday:

  • 2 snowy, icy, slushy miles
  • 25 minutes yoga

So we had a legit blizzard on Sunday. Like for real! It was insane! And guess who ran during it! That’s right, this girl! πŸ˜‚ Oh man, that was probably insanely dangerous as we were experiencing white out conditions, but it was also a lot of fun!!

Anyway, on Monday the sun was shining but there was still quite a lot of snow, ice, and slush on the ground. I know a lot of people hate it when the roads look like this, but I have soooo much fun running in this kinda stuff! Winter running is my favorite. Even if it does involve some slipping and sliding. β„οΈβ›„οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Tuesday:

    3 miles
    20 minutes strength work

Another snowy run! Yay!!

Well, kinda. The roads were mostly clear on Tuesday, but there were still some really icy spots. Most of them were short enough for me to dodge, but some of them were longer and required slow, deliberate tiptoeing over. Hahaha that’s what’s fun about running on ice and snow. It really makes you have to focus and think about where your feet are going. One misstep and you could end up on the ground. Luckily I’ve always been really good at picking out good footing in the ice and snow. At this point I I’ve never lost my footing enough to actually fall, which is pretty impressive considering how big of a klutz I am. πŸ˜‚

Anyway, followed my run with some lower body strength work! I’m definitely getting back into the swing of things and it feels good!!

Wednesday:

    2 miles

I just like winter running. Winter running is my favorite. β„οΈπŸ˜Š

You guys, the snow is still sticking around! It started getting all mushy and melty Wednesday afternoon. Still though, I’ve been enjoying it. 😁

Thursday:

  • 1 mile
  • 20 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 10 minutes ab work

Nice and easy 1 mile just to keep my run streak going. Followed that up with 29 minutes on my stationary bike and then 10 minutes of ab work, just for fun. Also broke out my all time favorite Christmas Zensah compression socks! ‘It’s the season!! πŸ¦Œβ€οΈπŸ’š

Friday:

  • 2.57 miles

Friday’s Run was supposed to be easy but it sure didn’t feel that way. Running is like that sometimes. But I was still smiling because running is a gift. Even on days when it feels hard.

Saturday:

  • 4 miles

4 fantastic miles to kick off the new month!!

Getting back into a more regular running routine has been a bit of a challenge, but Saturday’s run was the best if felt on a run in a LONG time! πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ I think I’m finally ready to start doing some real work again now!!

Sunday:

  • 1 mile

Just one easy mile to keep the streak alive! Nothin’ fancy, but it did feel really good!!

Alrighty! I’ve been not-so-patiently been waiting for this week to get over so I can start using my new Believe Training Journal! I mean, I could have started using it the day I got it, but I thought it made more sense to start it on the first Monday of a month! I’m dreaming big for 2019 and I think this journal will be a fantastic tool to help me make shit happen! I. Am. Stoked!!

Happy Sunday! Wishing you a fantastic new month!!

Weekly Recap: December 25th-31st, 2017

Well, this week has been a little bit crazy to say the least!! Between traveling to Illinois, running around everywhere to see family and go to Christmas parties, staying up super late and consuming alcohol, and traveling back to Kansas, I didn’t exactly have a lot of time to get any kind of running or workout done. Which is obviously fine and pretty much to be expected, and although at one point I did wish I had brought running gear to Illinois, for the most part I was too busy and having too much fun to worry about getting any kind of miles done. Which is probably a good thing since attempting that streak seemed to take a lot out of me haha. But anyway, basically what I’m saying is that this weekly recap isn’t going to be very exciting because I haven’t exactly done much hahaha.

Monday (Christmas Day):Β

On Christmas day Luke and I spent literally the whole day running around everywhere to attempt to see a bunch of our family. We started the day out and his dad’s house to open presents from Santa (apparently Santa know’s about my Nike addiction and brought me a very nice pair of fleece leggings and pull over jacket complete with thumb holes!!) ;). After that we went to my grandma’s house to drop off Finn (she had a crate that we left him in. He was too overwhelmed to run loose with her dog, Luke’s dad dogs, or even our dogs, and we couldn’t take him everywhere with us.) and say hi to her. We also got to see my sister, her husband, and my brother while we were there. After about an hour there we went to Luke’s grandma Becky’s house for their Christmas party, where we ate a big lunch and where Santa always shows up to help hand out presents. And weirdly enough Luke’s grandpa is never around for that hahaha. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ After hanging out there for a while we made our way to Luke’s grandma Wilma’s. She had her Christmas party the night before (but we couldn’t go because we were on our way to Illinois on Christmas eve night). But we still got to hang out with her and talk to her for a while which was really nice. After that we had to go back to Luke’s dad’s for their party with his step mom’s parents and siblings. While we were there we had a huge dinner, hung out, and basically watched her brother’s kids run around like crazy (Luke’s step mom called them walking advertisements for birth control haha. And it’s not like they’re bad kids or anything. They were just excited.). And finally after that Luke took me back to my grandma’s and dropped me off there where Finn and I ended up staying the night and he finally got over himself and decided that my grandma’s and uncle’s dog Luther wasn’t so bad after all.

Haha told you we were super busy!!

img_8604

Santa also brought me a bunch of super spiffy, fuzzy socks that all feature a different, cute animal. πŸ˜‰

Tuesday:Β

The original plan for Tuesday was to make our way home to Kansas. But it ended up snowing in Illinois, Kansas, and pretty much all along I-70. The roads were pretty bad when Luke came to pick me up from my grandma’s house, so we ended up going back to his dad’s and staying another night. So pretty much all of Tuesday they all sat around playing video games. It was 2 degrees outside so nobody really felt like doing anything I guess. The problem is I can’t sit around for that long staring at a screen, so I ended up sitting around and being bored all day. Haha I seriously considered taking my new running gear out for a spin, but eventually decided against it because one layer wasn’t going to be enough for 2 degrees, a negative windchill, and the snow. Plus I didn’t even have running shoes, but it’s not like I haven’t run in nothing but socks before hahah.

Anyway, that evening we ended up going out to eat at a Mexican place for dinner, and after that Luke, one of his brothers, and I went to Target to get Cards Against Humanity and then the three of us and Luke’s dad ended up staying up until 3 am drinking, (well except for his brother who is only 18) and playing that. That was a long night haha, but it was fun! πŸ™‚

img_8602

Wednesday:Β

We FINALLY made it back home around 3 pm on Wednesday! Don”t get me wrong, we had a lot of fun, but it felt soooo great to be home! Haha and all of the dogs were very happy to be back as well. πŸ™‚

img_8610

Thursday:

  • 3 miles

FINALLY got the chance to hit the road and get in a few miles! Haha let me tell ya, I was definitely feeling all of the big meals, Christmas cookies, and alcohol I’d consumed earlier this week during this run. It still felt really good to get out and get the ol’ legs moving though. πŸ™‚ Plus it was nice and cold, and there was still some snow on the ground, and that always makes things more fun! At least it does for me haha. πŸ˜‰

I also wanted to do some yoga or stretching, but I kinda got distracted by taking down Christmas decorations and then grocery shopping haha. Oh well.

img_8622

Friday:

  • 1 hour on the stationary bike
  • 15 minutes of yoga

On Friday I got a wonderful surprise from my sistersΒ  in the mail!! They got me a running log for 2018 and Run Fast Eat Slow for Christmas. So that was pretty exciting! I was actually thinking about buying myself a running log for 2018 to help me keep track of my goals, but I’m glad I didn’t haha. And I’m super duper exctited to try out the recipes in Run Fast Eat Slow. I’ve heard very good things about them! πŸ™‚

Anyway, I spent the most lazy hour ever on my stationary bike on Friday. Like, I don’t think my HR ever got out of the “warm up zone” haha. Ah well, still better than nothing! After that I did some yoga, walked Lily, and spent pretty much the rest of my day attempting to clean the house but getting too distracted to actually get anything done…

Saturday:Β

  • Rest Day

I guess all of the travel, late nights, and general Christmas craziness finally caught up with me. I woke up tired, congested, and with a sore throat…I was hoping that all I needed was a little bit of rest so I decided to spend my Saturday curled up on the couch with all of my border collie friends (because it was waaay too cold out to leave Dean and Finn outside all day like they want to), Netflix, and lots and lots of tea. But it’s looking like I’ve done all of the running I’m going to do in 2018 and I’ll probably be ringing in the New Year sick…

Sunday:Β

  • Rest Day

Still feeling a little too sick to do much. Especially in this cold weather. But I am feeling better than was yesterday! I spent my morning making the Carrot-Ginger soup recipe from Run Fast Eat Slow and Luke and I are going to be spending the night at home. It’ll be nice though. 😁

Christmas Was A Success!!

A crazy, hectic, busy, couple of days, but a definite success!!

Luke, the dogs, and I were only in Illinois for about 3 and 1/2 days, but we still managed to go everywhere we needed to go, saw everyone we needed to see, went to most of the Christmas parties we’d been invited too, gave and received gifts, ate lots of yummy food, drank a little too much ;), stayed up waaaay too late, and had lots and lots of fun. πŸ™‚Β Honestly, I couldn’t actually re-cap everything that went down in Illinois in the correct order because it’s all kind of a blur haha, but I suppose I’m gonna try!

I got to see my sister and her husband a little bit which was nice. I haven’t seen them in a while!! And I got to hang out with my brother for a little bit too! All three of them left to go home to Colorado the day before Luke and I did. My mom bought a puppy from someone in Illinois, so they brought her back to my mom. She’s a cute little thing, a tea cup Yorkie, but I honestly would never recommend buying a tea cup dog (they tend to have health issues. Intentionally breeding dogs to be super duper small isn’t exactly a good thing). But anyway, my sister has an Alaskan husky (which is a Siberian husky mixed with a grey hound) and a huge German Shepard, so I’m not sure how that 11 hour drive went for them with such a tiny dog in the car, but they somehow made it. πŸ™‚

My mom’s new puppy. I may not agree with the whole tea cup dog thing, but I definitely wasn’t going to say no to cuddling with a puppy!

On Christmas day Luke and I spent the day driving around everywhere. We Opened presents from Santa in the morning (apparently Santa knows I like Nike running gear and needed a new pair of fleece leggings πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ ). Then we went to Luke’s grandma Becky’s party. All of Luke’s uncles, aunts and cousins always spend the afternoon there and that’s always fun. Since there are only 2 really little kids on this side of the family a lot of suggestive joking was done this year. We also got a little talk about the bird and the bees. That was a blast and Luke’s grandma thought it was hilarious. And every year, after we eat lunch Santa shows up to hand out more gifts! Luke’s grandpa never seems to be around when Santa shows up though. I guess our big Christmas lunch makes him tired. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

That night Finn and I stayed at my grandma’s house and Luke, Lily, and Dean stayed at his dad’s. So I spent the night hanging out with my grandma and attempting to make Finn get along with my uncle’s dog, Luther. At first Finn was afraid of him, but once he realized he could bully him he stopped freaking out around him. Poor Luther, all he wanted to do was play with Finn. They’re about the same age and Luther was super exited to have a friend. Finn on the other hand, is a border collie, mostly wants to work, and doesn’t know how to play like a normal dog. And I mean, he did kinda play with him, but he spent most of his time bossing him around and stealing his toys. Ah, the joy’s of border collie ownership. πŸ˜‰

Luther is a good boy.

The day after Christmas Luke picked me and Finn up from my grandma’s, then we went back to his dads, packed up the car, and had every intention of heading back home. But it was snowing, the roads were gross, and our car’s heater doesn’t work, so we decided to spend another day in Illinois. Not gonna lie, it was kind of a boring day. Since it was so cold out (it was in the single digits for most of the day) everyone just wanted to stay inside and play video games. Now, I enjoy playing video games, but I can’t stare at a screen ALL DAY. Plus I like the cold and the snow, so I wouldn’t have minded playing outside haha, but oh well.

That evening/night/early morning (because we ended up staying up until 3 am haha) was fun though! We all went out for dinner at a Mexican restaurant that was really good! They had really good margaritas haha. Then Luke, one of his brothers, and I went to Target, bought Cards Against Humanity, and ended up playing that for a while. And of course more alcohol was involved with that. Eventually Luke’s dad joined us and really got into the game. We ended up playing through all of the black question cards twice, and that’s how we ended up staying up until 3 am haha.

And then the next day (yesterday) the roads were clear, but it was still super cold (-2 in the morning…), so we bundled up and spent 5 hours in the car to drive home. That was slightly miserable since our car has no heat. But we had a mini heater thing, so we took turns holding that under our blankets to warm up. And we finally made it home alive, but very cold, around 3 pm yesterday.

Whew! I think that just about covers it! I didn’t bring any running gear/shoes with me because I didn’t think I’d have time to run. And I really didn’t until Wednesday I really didn’t! I did get some new running tights and a pull over jacket for Christmas, it wasn’t really enough for braving the super cold temps that day, but don’t think I didn’t consider just braving the cold in what I had and running in only socks (something that I’ve done before) because I was soooo bored with all of the video game playing haha. But I decided that I probably shouldn’t have braved the -2 degree temperatures in nothing but one pair of fleece leggings and a jacket. πŸ˜‰

But anyways, it’s still super cold out today! But since I’m home and have access to all of my running gear I’m gonna go get in a few miles!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and has a very happy and safe New Year’s Eve/Day/year in general!! πŸ™‚
