Yet Another Trip To Illinois

We finally got a chance to make another trip to Illinois!! We were originally going to go two weekends ago, but this weekend ended up working out a lot better for several reasons. One reason being that Luke got today off from work. He gets every other Friday off which is pretty spiffy! And it always works out really well to travel to places after Luke gets off from work on Thursday, so that’s what we did yesterday! But before we did that, of course I had to run! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‰

It was absolutely gorgeous on Thursday morning! The sun was finally out after almost 3 days of basically non stop rain (that was pretty awful… and you know it’s bad when I’m saying that, because I love raining weather. πŸ˜‚), it was a cool and crips 41 degrees, the trees are starting to change colors, it was great!

It was so perfect and I loved it!!

So earlier this week I had actually planned on doing my long run on Thursday morning, since I knew we’d be heading to Illinois this weekend, but Luke brought home a bug from work. And of course he didn’t get sick, but I definitely started to come down with it… So since I wasn’t feeling so great I just went out to see what I could do on Thursday. I made it 3 miles before I knew it was time to be done. So it kinda sucks that I didn’t get in my long run like I wanted to, but at least I got something done. πŸ™‚

It’s actually a good thing I didn’t go any longer than that though. Luke ended up leaving work earlier than he’d originally planned, so by the time he got home I had actually gotten everything I needed to done before we left. So that did end up working pretty well! I was showered, dressed, had all of the animals taken care of, and everything packed and ready to go by the time he got home. Go me! 😁

So once Luke got home he changed, and then we were able to pack up the truck and hit the road! This time around we only brought Whiskey with us. My brother-in-law is taking care of the rest of our critters for us.

Whiskey did really well on her first road trip! Haha she actually slept for almost all 5 hours of it, so that was good. We stopped at a rest area about 3 hours in so that she could pee. She did really well with that! She didn’t have any accidents in the truck, but went right away when we stopped. So far this dog has been the easiest dog I’ve EVER potty trained. It’s crazy!

Anyway, since we ended up leaving home earlier that planned we ended up getting caught in good ‘ol St. Louis rush hour traffic . It was stop and go for quite a while and it was pretty obnoxious haha. It got better once we got across the Mississippi River though.

We finally got to my grandma’s house right around 7 pm. Just in time for my mom’s birthday dinner! Yesterday was her birthday, so it was pretty nice that I got to be there for that! Obviously she was super stoked about that! πŸ˜„ Haha and her little dog Bella was very happy to see me too. πŸ˜‰

Luke hung around for a little bit so that my grandma and mom could meet Whiskey. My uncle’s dog Luther was making her kinda nervous, but she did enjoy meeting some new people! Luke wanted her to meet his dad and brothers too, so he took her to his dad’s house last night and that’s where they stayed the night.

(Sorry that these photos aren’t in a nice little collage. I did this all on my phone. πŸ˜‰)

Haha not gonna lie though, it was kinda nice getting a break from the new puppy. I was able to eat my dinner without having a little puppy trying to steal all of my food! πŸ˜‚And it’s not like I could be too lonely, Luther really likes me and cuddled with slept with me last night.

So this morning Luke and his dad went fishing. They took his dad’s boat out to a lake and Whiskey got to go with them. Last night Luke bought her a little sweater so she wouldn’t get too cold out on the water. It was another chilly day in the Midwest. It was 40 this morning. But apparently she did really well on the boat, so that’s good. Haha she’s just been experiencing all sorts of new stuff in the week we’ve had her.

So while they were out fishing, I was hanging out with my mom and grandma. Not super exciting stuff, but still nice. I made THE BEST oatmeal for breakfast haha. It wasn’t super healthy, but I couldn’t resist adding some chocolate chips and sprinkles to my breakfast. πŸ˜‚

Later this afternoon my mom had to go babysit her friend’s daughter, so Luke and I went to his grandma’s house to visit. She got to meet the puppy for the first time and she was thrilled! So we actually ended up staying there for a while and she made us chilli for dinner. It was perfect for the cold/drizzly day we’re experiencing here in Illinois. 😊

Haha so I’ve had two really big “grandma meals” since we’ve been here. Luke was joking that I’m going to gain weight if I keep going to grandma’s houses. And I mean, he’s probably right! πŸ˜‚ But how do you turn down grandma’s cooking?!? You just can’t!

Anyway after that Luke brought me back to my grandma’s, and of course the first thing she did when I got home was offer me food. πŸ˜‚ I politely decline. I’m stuffed!

So Whiskey is staying with us tonight and she’s really been enjoying playing with my uncle’s dog. Unfortunately he’s super loud, likes to bark, and was driving us all crazy. But at least they’re all having fun.

Alrighty, that’s all for today!

Tomorrow Luke and I are going to be going to his other grandma’s birthday party so that should be fun!

Happy Friday!!

Friday’s Luke Adventure

What is a Luke Adventure, you ask? Well, it could be anything from a random trip to St. Louis to visit our family, a trip to the pumpkin farm, a trip to the mall to get something completely impractical, getting a new puppy, taking a road trip to the Grand Canyon, really the list goes on and on and on….

So on Friday when Luke was on his way home from work he called me and asked if I had company over (referral to my 4 year old neighbor or her friend who like to come over) and if I didn’t I needed to get ready to leave because we were going on another Luke Adventure. Of course I inquired as to what this adventure was going to be and of course he didn’t tell me. At least not right away haha. He likes to do that with big surprises. Eventually he did though and we began discussing the logistics of our lates Luke Adventure.

Anyone want to make a guess as to what we did?

Hahaha I won’t leave you guys hanging like Luke did with me. πŸ˜‰ It was another puppy!

I was trying to get a picture of the female pups running around together, but this was the best I got. πŸ˜‚

Luke has wanted a red border collie for the longest time and he found someone who had a litter with all of our qualifications (which I won’t get into here haha. I’ve talked a little bit about them on other posts though) on Craigslist so he wanted to get another female. So that’s what we did.

Meet Whiskey, Finn’s future girlfriend.

She’s 8 weeks old, which is kinda young to be leaving her mom and litter-mates, but poor mom had 10 puppies and was skin and bones from trying up nurse them all. So they were getting rid of them for her sake.

They only got out the red females because that’s what we wanted, but we had 5 to choose from since we were the first people to show up. Yet again! Haha the same thing happened when we got Dean. Anyway, while they were getting the puppies out of the cattle trailer they had them in they started handing them to Luke and I. Some people think picking out puppies is hard but I don’t! I can usually tell which one will work well for us. So the first puppy they handed me peed all over me. Poor thing was petrified. Well that wouldn’t work for us considering we have 3 other dogs. The first one they handed Luke was cute (what puppy isn’t?!) but neither of us felt either way about her. But when they handed me a second puppy this one was very alert and very excited to meet new people. She was wagging her tail super hard and licking me everywhere. Perfect. She was the one. I knew it.

We still took them all over to their driveway and let them run around for a little bit. I still liked the same one though. She was the most spunky. Zooming around and out running all of the other puppies. At that point we knew she’d fit right in with the other 3 dogs, so she was the one we ended up taking home!

We definitely made the right choice! She fit right in almost immediately! Finn absolutely adores her! He won’t leave her alone haha. But that’s good. 😁

So she’s spent the last few days learning all about life and how our house functions. So far she’s doing really well! She’s also the easiest dog I’ve ever potty trained! She hasn’t had a single accident in the house. It’s crazy! It’s pretty great though. πŸ™‚

Today I took her to the vet for her very first round of puppy shots. She did very well! She didn’t wiggle or squirm or cause any trouble. I was very proud of her haha. But now she’s all tired and doesn’t feel to great, but human babies, they don’t tend to feel well after getting shots.

Anyway, at this point she’s doing crazy well with potty training. She knows her name, is getting pretty good at coming when she’s called, and we’ve just started working on “sit”. That’s why I like getting little puppies. They are super easy to train and are usually more accepting of new and scary things.

But yeah, we have 4 dogs now haha. And hopefully at some point Finn and Whiskey will end up making some very pretty babies. Finn wasn’t a cute baby but now that he’s grown up he’s very handsome! And if Whiskey ends up looking anything like her mom (which I’m thinking she might. She’s a similar color and has markings closer to her mom. Her dad was black and had a lot more white on him). Plus Finn has some really great instincts and I have a feeling Whiskey will too. But obviously that’s still a ways off and not even a definite thing at this point though. It’s a pretty good possibility though!

Alrighty, that’s all for today then! I hope everyone has had a good Monday and has a great week!

The Last 10 Photos On My Phone And The Story Behind Them

I saw this idea on one of those “blog post ideas” blog posts, on a blog about blogging that I found on Pintrest hahaha. Does anyone else find blogs about blogging super duper annoying? Like, “here’s a list of 100 of the most generic blog post ideas ever”. Or “here’s how I went from no readers to 304957498679387520984 readers in only 3 months!”.Β  Riiiight I’m sure me paying a bazillion dollars for you’re online guide is really gonna teach me how to accomplish anything. Especially since it’s probably the most generic, vague thing ever. Haha I don’t even know why I bother reading those blogs every once in a while. I always end up super annoyed with how fake the people are and how hard they try to push their guides, tutorials, and “classes” onto people. Whatever. πŸ˜‰

But I did see this idea for a blog post and I did think it would be pretty fun! Especially considering I take photos of just about everything, and have an interesting collection of memes and other photos from the internet, so I definitely have some fun ones on my phone! Not gonna lie though, I cheated a little bit and didn’t use any of the photos that I’ve posted here or on instagram. I figured seeing them for the 8 billionth time would be boring, so I skipped those. But other than that, these really are the last 10 photos on my phone. πŸ™‚

10. Super Spiffy New Socks!

I love socks! Especially thick, warm socks, because unless it’s super hot outside, my feet are always freezing cold. The problem is that I’m also really super good at wearing holes into my socks (and even shoes!) at the very ball of my feet. I’m not sure how I do it, but that means I’m often obtaining new socks. Haha and the more exciting the better! I saw these at Hot Topic and I had to get them because the are adorable!

9. The Continuing Meme War.Β

So my husband and I are at all times in the middle of a meme war. We both spend an absurd amount of time scouring facebook, ifunny, Instagram, Pintrest, and a plethora of other pages looking for the best memes/internet posts, constantly trying to one up each other. Anything involving dogs is usually a very big win, but border collies are even better! πŸ˜‰ Also, this is the best news headline I’ve ever seen.

img_9116

8. Does This Even SurpriseΒ Anyone Anymore?

Of course I have a bunch of Green Day photos on my phone that I didn’t even take…Haha I want to say I got this photo from greendayauthority.com, but I couldn’t tell you with any certainty. Which really sucks because it’s a great photo from the Uno, Dos, Tre tour and I would love to give the photographer credit for their work (I always try to do that anyway). But anyway, this is one of my all time favorite photos from a Green Day show, and it’s currently the lock screen on my phone haha.

img_9187

7. Partially Purple Hair, Don’t care.Β

Unfortunatly it’s not this purple anymore. It’s faded out super fast and that really sucks. But it was fun while it lasted (and I might end up doing it again). And in case anyone was wondering, I am the queen of bad selfies.

img_9138

6. My AppendixΒ Tried To Kill Me Once. Now I’m Short One Appendix.Β

Another meme from the meme wars. My husband actually sent this one to me, because I had an appendectomy when I was 13. Haha I swear I know more about appendixes now that I don’t have one, than I did back when I actually still had mine!

img_9250

5. Winchester Knows How To Get Comfy.Β

Earlier this week Luke and I started cleaning out my brother-in-law’s old room since he doesn’t live here anymore, but left a piss ton of his stuff behind. So we packed up most of it and have it all in a pile for him to come take. Winchester found said pile and the dog bed on the very top of it all. He is currently very happy about this situation.

img_9243

Haha alright, that was actually the most recent photo that I’ve taken that I haven’t shared anywhere yet. I underestimated how many photo’s I’ve actually posted here and on my other social media accounts, so I had to back track a litter further into my camera roll for the next 5 photos hahahaha.

4. I Am One Of Those Melodramatic Fools

My Basket Case eyeliner!! I’ve yet to figure out how to make it work on the tops of my eyes, but I’ve definitely got the messy look down on the bottom and I absolutely love it! πŸ™‚

img_8895

3. It’s Not Uncommon to Find Rabbits On My Furniture.Β

Daisy isn’t a fan of being picked up, or pet. But she does like the chill on the couch next to people and rub her face all over them.

img_8852

2. My First Tattoo, Featuring My Appendectomy Scar.Β

It is incredibly hard for me to get a decent photo of this thing, which is exactly what I was trying to accomplish haha. It always ends up looking weird and distorted because of the weird angle. Haha oh well. It’s not like it’s a great tattoo anyway, but it’s mine and I love it. It’s also surprisingly holding up pretty well after 6 years of me having it. I was a little worried about all of the super light colors the artist used because those tend to fade faster on some people, but really the only color that actually faded out was some bright orange he put in between the petals. But the yellow, green, and bright pink has held up pretty well!

img_8823

1. Go Figure The Last One Is Another Green Day Thing…

I had to go all the way back to December 28th for this one! Haha I share a lot of my photos on social media…Anyway, obviously I stole this from Billie Joe Armstrong’s Instagram account. But I liked the message to the “young rock n rollers”, so I screen shot it so I can have it forever hahaha. I’m such a total fan girl….

img_8630

Alrighy then! Those were the last 10 photos on my phone (that weren’t plastered all over social media) and the stories behind them! I really hope you enjoyed this post because I thought it was a lot of fun and I just might end up doing this again! πŸ™‚

Have a great Saturday everyone!!

2018 Goals, Potential Races, and Finn’s First Birthday!

Happy New Year, everyone!!

img_8491-1

I hope you had a very merry Christmas, a fun (and safe) New Year’s Eve, and a happy holiday season in general. Mine sure was!!

For Thanksgiving Luke and I drove to my parents’ place Colorado and only really got to spend one full day there, but we jam packed that day with all sorts of fun (which you can read all about here πŸ™‚ )!

For Christmas we drove to Illinois and were able to stay there for a little longer. We spent A LOT of time running around all over the place trying to go everywhere we needed to go, see everyone we needed to see, and attended the usual family Christmas parties. We totally succeeded at all of that and had lots of fun doing it! It hardcore wore us out though and I think all of that contributed in my getting a gross chest cold later in the week haha. You can read about that craziness here, if you’d like. πŸ˜‰

And as for New Year’s Eve well, we were going to hang out with some friends, but one of them had just had surgery and since I was sick that didn’t end up happening. So I spent most of the morning making the Carrot-Ginger soup from Run Fast Eat Slow and it turned out great!! Then Luke and I just hung out at home together all night. It sucks that I’m sick but it was still nice. Plus he’s taken a couple of days off of work this week, so we’ll getΒ even more time to spend together which is nice. He works a lot so we don’t get that very often anymore.

But anyway, enough about holiday stuff, lets talk about my goals for the new year!! Honestly I don’t have many that are super thought out or anything. One day a week or two ago I just wrote down a few things I wanted to do and work on and kinda sorta built on those, pretty much as I wrote this blog post hahaha.

Goals For 2018:

  • Be more constant about hitting my step goal. Thanks to the whole fitness tracker crazy, it seems like nowadays a goal that a bunch of people have is to take 10,000 steps everyday, and I am one of those people. 10,000 steps is kind of an arbitrary number, but I think it’s a good goal to have, especially in our modern world in which we do a lot of sitting. It’s definitely a very obtainable goal and I’m usually pretty good about it, but I’ve been slacking a little bit over the past several months. Now I decided to go with being more consistent instead of trying to aim for it every single day because that seems like the better way to go. I mean, every once in a while it’s nice to have a day were you sit around doing nothing, or life happens and you just can’t get it done without going to extremes, or becoming super neurotic about it. And besides, consistency is key. πŸ™‚
  • Build up my weekly running mileage to about 50-60 miles a week. This is something I’ve been wanting/needing to do for a while, but have never really come up with a plan to accomplish. Technically I still don’t have an actualΒ plan,Β but I do have a pretty good idea about how I want to go about doing it, so at least there’s that.
  • Keep a training log. Another thing I’ve been needing to do for a while! Actually, I have kinda sort kept a written log before. I do really well for a while but then kinda taper out. But now I plan on keeping an alarm on my phone to remind me to do it haha! I think a written log is definitely going toe help me find things I can do to help me improve my running, figure out how/when/why I get injured (I’m kinda sort injury prone πŸ˜‰ ), and help me keep up with my goals. I mean, it seems like the most successful runners keep a written training log, so there’s gotta be something to it!
  • Write down one positive thing in said training log every day. I think this will just be a good way to remember that not everyday is good, but there is good in everyday. Even if that good is something super small like met a new dog, ate a yummy cookie, my hair looked nice today, and stuff like that. πŸ™‚

So that pretty much covers my goals for the year. I think they’re all achievable goals. Now I just have to remember to stick with them hahaha. πŸ˜‰

Along with my goals there are also a few races that I want to run this year; the Garmin 10k in April (I thought about doing the half but I’ve yet to do an “official” 10k and that’s something I want to cross of my bucket list. Plus a 10k takes a lot less time to train for haha), the Running with the Cows 5k (which I signed up for before the price increase last night! πŸ˜‰ ) in May, and the Longview half in November (that’ll make it 4 years in a row that I’ve run this race and I want to keep that going!!!

img_8690

The Garmin 10k will be a new one for me, if I do it, and that’s pretty exciting!! Plus, it’s held at the Garmin world headquarters which is legit 10 minutes away from my house, so that’s really nice! I did the Running with the cows 5k in 2016 and it was a lot of fun!! There were baby goats and cows at the start line, It’s held on a pretty rural road with all sorts of pretty views of cow fields, and there is a ridiculous amount of food at the end! So what’s not to love?!? Oh and this one is like 15 minutes away from my house which is also super awesome. πŸ™‚ And of course the Longview half. My first and only half marathon experience and my November tradition. Eventually I will run another half that is not this one. Eventually…hahaha.

Aaaaand last but certainly not least; today is Finn’s first birthday!! Yay!!

Finn started out life as a not so cute puppy (I mean, ALL puppies are cute, but Finn was the least cute puppy I’ve ever seen hahaha. He was mostly just awkward.) with ears that were way too big for his body and couldn’t make up their mind if they wanted to be up or down. He’s always been a little shit disturber and that hasn’t changed, but he’s learning how to act, how to behave, and how to function in scary/different environments. He’s way too smart for his own good, but eager to please (as most border collies are). His ears have finally made up their minds and he has finally grown into them, and he’s grown into a very handsome boy. His herding instincts are amazingly strong, he has a very strong eye, and has an obsessive need to circle things, and likes to cut the head of whatever it is he’s herding (dogs, cats, rabbits) and is definitely a nose biter. I really want to take him somewhere and get him some herding lessons. He’s the perfect age for that, but unfortunately we don’t currently have the time or money to do it. Maybe one day though. And maybe one day after we have some testing done on his eyes and hips, Mr. Finn just might become a proud father. πŸ˜‰

Mr. Finn isn’t the only one with a winter birthday though. Dean was born on January 17th and will be 3 this year, and Lily was born in February and will be 8 (haha my friend who’s dad bred her, and her boyfriend at the time who originally ended up with her but ended up giving her to me, couldn’t remember the exact day, but it was definitely February. πŸ˜‰ ). So we might just have to have another puppy party for the three of them. They’re all good dogs and I’m very glad that I was lucky enough to end up with all of them.

img_7787

Having 3 border collies and no farm/livestock is hard though, I’m not gonna lie. These dogs do require a lot of work, time, attention, exercise, and mental stimulation. I’m also very lucky to have the time, patience, and knowledge to be able to handle the task of keeping 3 high energy, highly intelligent dogs happy. πŸ™‚

But anyway, that’s everything I’ve got for today! I hope everyone has a fantastic 2018!!

~Ashley

Hello Friends!

Sorry I’ve been kinda absent this last week. The death of a really good friend from back in high school caught everyone off guard on Monday, and if people’s Facebook statuses/messages/phone calls have been any indication, it would appear that our whole little private school/Lutheran church community from back then is taking it pretty hard. But how could you not? I mean, it hurts me to know that he was hurting enough to take is own life, so I can’t imagine how his family and friends he was still really close with feel. And obviously it’s always hard when you lose a friend or a loved one, no matter what the cause, but it seems like suicide leaves a whole hell of a lot of “what if” questions just hanging out there. At this point dwelling on those “what if’s” doesn’t do anyone any good, but it’s kind of hard not to. I’ve been thinking a lot about them, his ex girl friend from back in high school (whom I’m still friends with) has been really thinking about them as well. We talked for a while on Tuesday about it and both of us were basically at a loss as to what to say. But I’m sure his family is probably thinking even more about the “what if’s”

Oh man, it’s just rough. I mean, life in general kinda is but it’s always worse when you lose someone you care about.

So I guess I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that depression and mental health in general is something that definitely needs to be talked about more so that maybe one day we’ll be able to get rid of some of the stigma around it. In our culture and society it can be really hard to talk about this kind of stuff and reach out to other people when you need help, especially for men I think. So lets get a conversation started about this! Talk to the people you love and care about. Tell them how awesome they are and how much they mean to you. Let them know that you’re always there for them. And I’m sure that wont helpΒ every singleΒ situation. But who knows, you might just help someone who needed it the most and you would have never known about it otherwise.

And on that note, please please please never hesitate to reach out to someone. I don’t suffer from depression but I still know and understand how hard it can be to ask for help. If I’ve learned anything from my friend’s death it’s that people care. The outpouring of condolences, love, support, and acts kindness I witnessed his family receive is just incredible. Hell, I even received some of that love and support because people knew we had been close back in the day. People really do care. So if you ever need help or just need to talk, reach out to your family, friends, coworkers, running buddy, teacher, priest/pastor/rabbi, your “internet friends”,Β  or even just the s prevention hotline, whoever. People care. You are not alone.

national-suicide-prevention-lifeline

Oh man, that’s some heavy stuff. Lets take a second to look at some cute puppy pictures for a second. Cute puppy pictures always make me feel a little better. πŸ˜‰

You know what, lets do some other cute animal pictures too. Why not? πŸ™‚

Hopefully that brought everyone back up a little bit. At the very least I managed to cheer myself up a bit, so at least there’s that. πŸ™‚

I suppose that’s all I really wanted to say for today. That and that I’ll be back to my usual blogging shenanigans; talking about my life, pets, running, just how badly I”m freaking out about my 3rd half marathon next month, how I feel about missing what should have been my first “official” 10k that took place yesterday, and all sorts of other randomness that hopefully you’ve all come to know and love. πŸ˜‰ I also desperately need to get caught up with all of the blogs and people I follow! I’ve been pretty terrible about that lately…

But anyways, I hope you have a wonderful Sunday, are enjoying racing season and whatever training/racing that’s in your immediate future. πŸ™‚

Remember that people care. I care. You are not alone.

Finn’s Pedigree

Finn’s ABCA certificate of registration came in the mail yesterday! I am so absolutely beyond excited about that!! He’s the first dog that’s belonged to me that’s been registered to a breed registry and therefore the first dog that I can look back at his family history and actuallyΒ see what the dogs look like, know how good they were at herding/working, and maybe even find out about any medical issues his relatives have had. That’s some pretty exciting and super useful stuff if you ask me!!

img_3506

Finn ABC 445445

On his certificate the ABCA includes 5 generations (including Finn) of dogs, their registry numbers, and their owners and breeders, and where they are from. That’s cool and all, but that’s not exactly much information. I mean, I want to know as much about these dogs as I can! So I’ve taken it upon myself to find out what I can about Finn’s lineage. And I’ve already found some pretty interesting stuff already and I wanted to share it here with you guys, even though this is more of a running blog haha. I just think this kinda stuff is so super neat!

I’ve met his parent’s in person (Shome and Ria Show Me Mo. Both of their names kinda reference the show me state, which is Missouri’s unofficial nickname and that’s where their owner is from. I think that’s pretty neat. πŸ™‚ ), and can ask their owner anything I want to know about them. Apparently he likes to stay in contact with the people who buys his puppies so I’m not to worried about them as I’m sure Luke and I will spend plenty of time talking to him as Finn gets older.

But anyway, so far I’ve been able to find some information about two of his great great grandfathers and it’s some really impressive stuff!

First I found out a little bit about Dog ABCΒ 293065. Haha after a bit of digging around in the interwebs, I actually found his current owner’s Facebook page! According to him, Dog is a fantastic working cattle dog and has had a long career as an outstanding stud dog. Plus I mean, look at him! He’s a super handsome boy. πŸ™‚ Oh and it looks like he’s still alive! His owner’s Facebook page has a few photos of him from last year so that’s pretty neat.

I also found Rocking G’s Spurs ABC 35996! He’s actually the dog Finn’s breeder told Luke and I about! He has an absolutely amazing career as a cattle dog which included many many different trial wins;

  • Gulf Coast Cowdog Association Open Dog of the year 1996, 1997,Β 2000, 2001
  • Gulf CoastΒ Cowdog Association Reserve Champion Dog of the year 1998, 1999
  • Winner of the 2000Β World Champion Cowdog Challenge in Reno, Nevada against 60 dogs

And there is a some more information about him and the other dogs from Rocking G Kennels on their website. They’ve got some pretty impressive border collies.

So far those two are the only dogs I’ve really been able to find much information about, but I’m sure if I keep digging I’ll be able to find a few more. And plus I know where to find Spurs’ pedigree, so if I really want to, I can look up the dogs on that and probably find out more about Finn’s great great great, great great great great, and great great great great great grandparents if I really wanted to go that far back haha. But for now I’m probably going to stick to the dogs on Finn’s certificate. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, seeing that Finn comes from a long line of several different amazing cattle dogs, explains why his herding instincts are so good! Hopefully once he’s around a year old Luke and I are going to take him to someone who trains border collies (so far we’ve only been able to find people in Texas, Oklahoma, Southern Missouri, and Illinois, so we’re going to have to drive pretty far to do it) and we’re going to see if we can’t teach him how to herd some cows! And maybe he’s inherited some of his great great grandparents’ talents. That would be pretty sweet!

But yeah, I’m doing talking about dogs (for now).

Happy Saturday!

Will Run For Pizza, Mornings Are Hard, A Garden Update, And Other Saturday Stuff

It seems like my rest days are always jam packed with all sorts of activities and things that need to get done, and this Friday was no different. Luke and I finally got Finn into the vet for his last round of puppy shots and got him started on heart worm and flea/tick prevention. Now we just have to wait a few weeks to get his rabies vaccine and then he’ll be good to go until next year!

Luke and I had made bets about how he was going to handle being at the vet’s office, meeting new people, and then getting his shots. For the most part he acted pretty much how we thought he would. He was super excited to meet everyone, the other dogs in the waiting room made him kinda nervous but he handled it well, and he even enjoyed getting on the scale to be weighed (he’s gained 10 pounds since we got him! He was 11 pounds when we brought him home and yesterday at the vet he weighed in at 21 pounds. He’s growing so fast!!). We were both surprised at how well he handled the shots though. He can be a really big baby at home sometimes. Like when he’s chasing the cat and she scratches him, or getting too rough with Lily so she nips at him. The way he cries you’d swear he was dying… But the shots didn’t phase him at all, which was great! And he left the vet’s with a clean bill of health. πŸ™‚

After Finn’s appointment Luke and I took all of the dogs to the dog park, dropped them back off and went grocery shopping, went to the DMV which was a whole thing. Luke wanted to renew the tags on his car and his brother’s car first thing in the morning, but his brother was at his girlfriends the night before and didn’t get us his insurance card until 10:30 am. So by then there was a 4 hour wait at the DMV closest to us, so we drove 40 minutes away to the other one that only had a 1 hour 40 minute wait. So while we were waiting for our turn we ate some lunch and then went to Khols because I really really really need some summer clothes. While we we’re there I ment to only get “real” clothes since I have plenty of active wear, but I absolutely needed to get this shirt. I mean, it’s a very accurate statement! And I’m totally going to wear it as a regular shirt anyway. πŸ˜‰

After our little shopping adventure we got into the DMV just as our number was called, got all of that taken care of and drove back home. Once we got back Luke mowed the backyard while I did a little bit of weeding in the garden and then played with the dogs. After that it was about 3:30 pm and we had every intention of calling it a day and to spend our evening hanging out and playing video games or whatever. Until we realized we had forgotten to pick up a few things. So we piled back into the car, drove to Walmart and got what we needed, along with a huge water bottle/jug thing that holds 2 liters of water. I’m pretty darn excited about that. And then went back home and around 4:40 pm we called it a day. πŸ™‚

Seriously though, grocery day is my favorite day! Plus look how happy and healthy our cart is. πŸ™‚

It was really pretty outside yesterday. I think the high was around 77 degrees which is a little hot for my tastes, but I can admit that partly cloudy, warm, sunny days are kinda nice. But once it starts getting really warm it starts getting really hard for me to sleep. I get so hot so easily and being hot is super uncomfortable for me and that makes it hard to sleep… Which makes mornings really hard. Especially mornings when I try to wake up earlier, like I did today. I got up at 5 am, let the dogs out, then went right back to bed and didn’t get back up until 6:40. And even then I really didn’t want to get up. But I knew every extra second I spent in bed was just another second that the sun spent getting higher in the sky and the hotter the pavement was getting. Yuck. I hate warm weather running.

Luckily I did do a few things last night that made this morning a tiny bit easier. I prepped my coffee maker and had my coffee mug, honey, and spoon all sitting on the counter and ready to go. So I didn’t have to fumble around for all of that. All I had to do was press a button and get my soy milk out of the fridge, so that was really nice. I also laid out my running gear in one place, so I didn’t have to run around all over the house looking for it. So at least things were a little bit easier. But I still didn’t get out on the road until around 8 am because I procrastinated with breakfast. Oh well, baby steps right? Tomorrow I’m totally getting out on the road earlier for my long run.

I totally wish I would have done that today. My run was hot, slow, and slightly miserable. Getting up and out the door about 2 hours earlier probably would have helped a lot but oh well, I got it done and I’m probably better for it. Sometimes I kinda wish I enjoyed the warm weather a little bit more, but I’m a cold weather person through and through and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

Also, how pretty is my strawberry plant?! I’ve never seen a strawberry plant with such vibrant pink flowers. From what I’ve seen they’re usually a paler shade of pink. I’m not complaining though, it’s so super pretty. πŸ™‚ It’s got quite a few flowers growing on it (this is the only one pictured because it’s the biggest and prettiest) so I’m hoping I end up with a bunch of berries! Nothing is better than a fresh picked strawberry that’s still warm from the sun!

The rest of my garden is doing pretty well too! My broccoli, brussel sprouts, and lettuce are all coming up and growing! I’ve even been able to weed out some of the weaker plants so I’d say they’re off to a good start! My carrots and onions aren’t doing as well though. Only a few carrot plants have popped up and they haven’t really grown much yet. And I haven’t been able to find any of my onion plants yet. I’m really hoping they’ll catch up eventually, but honestly our soil isn’t really any good for root plants. It’s got too much clay in it. What I really need to do is mix some sand in the plots that I want to grow root plants in, but since I’ve already planted the seeds it’s a little late for that. Maybe next year though.

And oh my gosh you guys! I cannot even begin to describe to you how freaking exited I am about my peach tree!!! It’s covered in all sorts of little, green, baby peaches, and it’s just super green and lush looking in general. It didn’t produce any peaches last year but it did a lot of growing. So I’m hoping this year it stops growing and produces a lot of peaches, and it looks like it just might! But I guess we’ll still have to wait and see what happens with it. πŸ™‚

Tiny little peach!

Haha I guess I got a little bit off track there, but anyways…After my run I enjoyed a nice post run shower Gatorade. Yup. Some people drink shower beer, but I prefer a nice cold Gatorade after a warm weather run. Especially since I tend to get really bad headaches if I don’t drink some kind of electrolyte replacement after warmer run, and the shower just seems like a really good place to do it.

I’ve been in a very green mood lately, and I think my shampoo/conditioner, Gatorade, and green instagram snapchat caption proves it. πŸ˜‰

After my shower shenanigans, I gathered up my laptop and giant water bottle so I could do some blogging while hanging out with the dogs in the backyard. Aside from the fact that it was really hard to read my laptop screen in the sun, that was really nice! Our backyard is really green (told you, I’m all about the color green right now) and pretty. Especially since Luke mowed it yesterday. And I don’t care what anyone else says, the Midwest is just a super pretty place in general. Sure we don’t have any big mountains, or red dirt, or ocean views, or anything like that. But we do have beautiful trees (at least until you get into western Kansas), plenty of wooded areas (the woods is my favorite), fields full of lush green grass and beautiful wildflowers, pretty rolling hills all through out Missouri and the part of Kansas I live in, and I even think all the corn and bean fields are pretty in their own way. And don’t even get me started on old farm houses and barns. Those are the best. Oh and all the cows are super neat too.

I realize that I just went on a really weird tangent, but I really do love living in the Midwest.

After hanging outside for a bit I made myself a bacon, egg, and guacamole sandwich. Oh man that was the best thing ever! I mean, you already can’t beat a bacon and egg sandwich, and the guacamole just made it that much better! πŸ™‚ Once that was all shoved into my face-hole I got to work on the mounds and mounds of dirty clothes that were all over my bedroom and bathroom. I’m not entirely sure how just Luke and I create so much laundry, but we totally do haha. While I had the washer and dryer running I got to cleaning the rest of the house, since I was kinda in a cleaning mood after that. I wish I had hardcore cleaning moods more often. My house would be much more tidy if that were the case, but alas, cleaning sucks total ass.

Around 4:30 pm we decided to take the dogs to the dog park. Dean is teaching Finn to chase birds so that’s a lot of fun to watch. They just run around the big open feild flushing birds out of the grass. Poor Finn has little legs and can’t quite keep up with Dean yet, but he sure tries! He’s also learning how to stay in one place until released. Lily and Dean are already really good at that, but Finn was sure happy to sit still after running around with Dean for a while.

Now we’re home and probably just going to hang out for the rest of the evening. 😊

Do you run for pizza? πŸ˜‰

Do you think grocery shopping is fun?

How was your Saturday? Do anything exciting?
