Never in my life has a cold fucked me up the way this one has. It’s seriously beenย terrible. My voice is still really hoarse (I’ll add the link to my vlog from today below, if you want to hear how bad it is), my chest is still really congested, I’m coughing and hacking, my nose is still stuffy, and I still don’t feel all that great…

https://vid.me/pjV9

On the bright side, I do feel quite a lot better today! Much better than I felt over the weekend! I’m still doing my best to rest, eat lots off fruits and veggies, and hydrate. Which is actually going a lot better than it was over the weekend, because now I actually want to eat and drink. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also got in another short, slow “run” (there was quite a bit of walking done, for only doing a mile) this morning. These short easy runs have really helped clear out my nose and chest, but I’m still not up for doing much more than a mile yet and the warm weather sure isn’t helping. It was a little over 70 degrees when I finally hit the pavement today. I do need to start waking up before the sun gets up. That will make running feel a little better, but right now I’m just focusing on getting enough rest so that I can get over this damn cold. Then I’ll start worrying about waking up at 5 am, and getting back to a more normal running scheduled.

Anyway now that I’ve run and showered I guess I’m going to continue resting. All this sitting around is kinda driving me stir crazy, but I know it’s what my body needs right now, so I’m going to do it. I’ve started re-reading The Stand for the 8 billionth time, so that should help keep me busy. Yesterday I spent some time outside on my back porch reading, trying to get rid of my terrible running shoe tan lines, and soaking up some vitamin D. So I think I’m off to do do that again. I feel like helped a bit. And the ridiculous amount of blueberries that I ate yesterday probably helped a little bit too haha. Yay vitamin C and antioxidants!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thursday Things

Guys! Have you seen the new Honey Stinger waffle flavors yet?!? I had heard they were coming out with new flavors for this spring, but I hadn’t heard what they were until a few days ago; chocolate mint, and vanilla and chocolate!! I’m for real super duper excited about these things! Chocolate mint is pretty much my favorite flavor of anything ever, and rumor has it that the vanilla and chocolate waffles taste like s’mores. How neat is that?!

I’m not sure when they’ll be available though. Theirย blog is a little bit vague about that; stating that they will be available for sale this spring at select stores, and on their website, along with Amazon.com. But whenever they become available to purchase, I’m definitely going to be trying them!

So, is daylight savings still messing with anyone else? Because I’m still adjusting to springing forward an hour. Ever since we did I’ve had trouble waking up, and this morning I woke up an hour later than I usually would have. Except not really, because technically it was the exact time I would have woken up before the time change. I’m sure I’ll adjust in a few more days, it’s just not a fun process haha.

Since I woke up an hour later than I wanted to, I ran an hour later than I would have liked. It’s not like I had anything to be late for or even really planned for today, but I do like to stay somewhat on a scheduled, and I actually want to start running earlier in an effort to get used to getting out there earlier. Because before I know it I’ll be getting up and out the door before the sun comes up. I’m definitely not looking forward to that, but it’s totally necessary in the summer…Anyway, my run today was just an easy 30 minutes. Initially Iย reallyย didn’t want to do it (probably because of the daylight savings thing), but I ended up feeling really good and had fun, so I’m glad I did. ๐Ÿ™‚

img_2259

I started out my run with a light jacket on, but near the end I had to take if off and finished the last 10 minutes or so in just a tank top. I guess the few cold days we’ve had and the light snow that happened on Tuesday was just winter’s last little hurrah. Here in Kansas, the highs for the rest of the week are supposed to be in the low to mid 60’s, and the high on Sunday is supposed to be 80 degrees. So I guess that means Luke and I should be good to get our garden started this weekend. I suppose at the very least we can get everything tilled and then I can start planting whenever I see fit. I don’t really need Luke’s help with that, but I when it comes to tilling I sure do! Haha I don’t like using our tiller because it vibrates really bad and that makes my arms go numb, so I just make Luke do it. But in all fairness, I end up doing most of the weeding, watering, pest control, and what not, so it all works out quite nicely. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of warmer weather; I saw this little gem on…Facebook? Instagram? I don’t remember exactly (although I did re-post in on Instagram ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), but I thought it was something most runners can relate to! I’ve already got pretty awesome sports bra, shoe, and watch tan lines going on, and it’s only the middle of March! They’re going to end up being sooo much worse by the end of the summer! Especially since I’m going to be spending a week or so in Florida in July. Ah the joys of being a runner.

img_2260

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m actually kinda proud of my tan lines. They just prove I’ve put in a lot of work ย over the summer. ๐Ÿ™‚

Along with my awesome tan lines, I’m also sporting a super spiffy bruise on my leg. I obtained said bruise by walking into a table at some point over the weekend (I wanna say Sunday morning, but I don’t remember for sure). You read that right. I walked into a table, and bruised my leg. Pretty badly too! It was even swollen for a few days after leg met table. Luckily my klutzy-ness didn’t cause me to miss out on any running, because it totally has before! Once I was doing handstands back when I lived in an apartment, and smacked my foot on the low part of the ceiling that separated the living room from the kitchen. My foot swelled up enough that I couldn’t walk properly for a few days, let alone run. So at least I didn’t have some kind of weird repeat of that.

Oh! And another time, when I was in second grade, I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing and stepped barefoot onto a pitchfork. It went all the way through my toe. ALL THE WAY THROUGH!! Yeah that was the day I learned to always wear shoes in barns and to watch were I step. I still have the scar to prove it too!

img_2265

Obviously it’s really old so it’s pretty faded, but you can still kinda see it there next to my thumb. Also, just ignore that cat hair. I am literally always covered in dog/cat hair…

I could name about 8 million other dumb ways that I’ve ended up getting hurt. Honestly it’s pretty impressive that I’ve managed to make it through 25 years of life without dying (although I have had my brushes with death. The first when I was born and the second when my appendix ruptured, but those are really long stories for another day). Haha it’s instances like the ones I’ve just mentioned that are the reason that Luke wouldn’t let me get up on the roof and take down our Christmas lights in January. I probably really would have fallen off or something. I am aย terribleย klutz.

On an unrelated note (but seriously, when is anything I ever talk about in a “Thursday Things” post related anyway?), you guys, Iย NEED book recommendations!!! I’m desperately tying to drag myself out of the safe little Stephen King and running related book hole that I currently reside it, but it’s not going well. Last Friday Luke and I went to Barne’s and Noble, spent over an hour there, and I eventually settled on one book which I’m super disappointed with. It sounded really cool, but I’m really having trouble getting into the story. Plus some of the things that are going on just seem super unbelievable to me. And I mean, Stephen King made me feel like a weird clown/alien thing really did reside in the sewers under Derry, Maine. So I kind feel like I’m not the problem here…

Haha Luke told me that my problem is that I got introduced to a really good author at a young age (I started reading Stephen King novels in 7th grade), have been very dedicated to that author, and now nothing else is going to live up to my expectations. I am very determined to prove him wrong though! So seriously, whats your favorite book? Or what are you currently reading? I wanna know!!

Alrighty then! I feel like I’ve rambled on enough for today, so I’m going to stop before I get even more out of control. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Happy Friday/St. Patrick’s Day eve, everyone! Stay safe out there and have fun with any festivities that you planned! ๐Ÿ€

Operation Florida Is Offically A-Go

Luke’s mom has officially rented a 1.2 million dollar house for our trip to Florida in July. Yeah let me repeat that, Luke’s mom rented a 1.2 MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE for our vacation this summer. It’s got like 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms (I don’t remember exactly, but it’s close to that), a 40 foot pool in a screened in patio, and all sorts of other neat stuff. How freaking crazy is that?!?ย Oh and the rent is like, $350 a night and there are all sorts of weird rules and a crazy home owner’s association, because along with other rentals, people actually live in the subdivision (ew I hate subdivisions) that this house is in. Since these are million dollar homes and some of them are lake front property, I can only assume that most of the people who live there are doctors, lawyers, CEO’s, and a bunch of them are probably older. That would definitely explain all the crazy rules and home owners association.

I feel like all the of the doctors, lawyers, and CEO people aren’t going to like us very much haha. We’re going to be one big ass group of people, all originally from the Midwest, all from working class families, with a little bit of ghetto and a little bit of redneck/hick-ness all mixed. Yeah they are definitely going to hate us and it’s going to be so much fun!

And I suppose it’s a good thing we are going to be in a subdivision surrounded by other vacationers and rich people. I looked up this house on google maps and it looks like I’ll be able to run around the area without any problems, so that’s one thing I wont have to worry about. There’s also a lake within walking distance, and where there are lakes there are usually walking paths. Not sure how willing I am to run super close to a lake that’s probably filled with alligators though haha.

So, if anything this whole Florida trip has given me motivation to start eating better. I still haven’t managed to reign that in ever since I stopped counting calories. I’m not exactly saying that I want to lose some weight (even though I really do), but what I really want is to be able to feel confident enough to wear a swimming suit while we’re in Florida. I actually really love swimming, but last year I only went once because I felt like I looked fat and gross in a swimming suit. Whether that was actually true or not isn’t exactly the point though. I just want to be able to hang out in the pool or go to the beach this summer and not be constantly worrying about how I look or comparing myself to all of the other girls there. Yeah, chaining that mindset isn’t going to be hard at all…But I feel like it’s all going to start with what I’m eating, so that’s what I spent a lot of time focusing on today.

I’m actually kind of glad that I had something to really start working on today, as it was a rest day and those can get kinda boring. Plus it’s a lot easier to start eating a little better when you can’t justify eating 6 oreos because you ran 6 miles that day (because obviously it only makes sense to eat one oreo per mile you ran. Duh!). That’s another thing, Luke and I didn’t even buy those oreos that I totally ate more than 6 of yesterday! My brother in law did. It seems like every few days he brings home some kind of junk food specifically for me. One day it was a bag of mini twix bars, then a package of oreos, then yesterday it was a little bag of brownie brittle. I’m not entirely sure what his angle is, but I really wish he’d stop because I have no self control. I even told him that I did’t want to eat junk food anymore, but when he brought me the brownie brittle he said “I know you don’t want any more junk food, but I know you like brownie brittle so I got you some”. Whatever though, if he keeps doing this I’m just going to start throwing it all away. I mean, I already told him I don’t want it, and he wont eat anything he specifically bought for someone else, so that seems like the best course of action to me. Don’t get me wrong, I really hate the idea of wasting food like that, but when you really think about it, oreos barely count as food anyway.

I didn’t eat super clean today or anything, but I did make a point to include more plants into my meals. I had a humus sandwich for breakfast (I can’t be the only person who loves nothing but humus on whole wheat toast!) and a cup of coffee with soy milk and sugar (I’m out of honey sad face). Lunch was a sweet potato, sliced and roasted with some olive oil along with some ground beef, seasoned with taco seasoning. Later in the afternoon I had a snack of whole wheat crackers and a glass of orange juice with some chia seeds mixed in. For dinner I made pasta, it had a little bit of pasta sauce and a decent amount of sauteed zucchini, cauliflower, and onions in it. Yum!! It wasn’t exactly the best day of eating, but I adding more plants into my usual diet is definitely a good place to start!

As for what I did today well, I rested and re hydrated. I definitely didn’t drink enough water yesterday and I was totally feeling it today. Actually, I don’t think I’ve been drinking enough water in general as of late. I guess that’s just one more thing I need to work on. Anyway, I finished the book Shoe Dog, worked on a few blog posts, and other than taking the dogs for a quick walk I hardly left the couch at all today. I think that was a little bit warranted though. Every once in a while everyone needs a day spent sitting around doing nothing. At least I think so. Plus at the very least I feel like I at least did something productive by doing a bit of writing.

Oh and I finally got around to updating my Goals and PR’s page! I’m only about a month late with coming up with goals for the year, but whatever. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I don’t have any time goals for this year anyway. Obviously I won’t mind if I can run certain distances a little faster, but my main goal is to hardcore up my mileage and run 1,000 miles this year! That’s a pretty big jump considering I only ranย 567.03 miles last year, but I think as long as I really make a point to hit my weekly and monthly mileage goals I can at the very least get close to 1,000 miles. I’m definitely aiming to hit 1,000 miles right on the head though, so we’re just going to have to wait and see how that goes! So far I’m falling just a little bit behind, but as long as I get back on track and make up those 11 miles that I didn’t do last month I should be good!

On a super duper unrelated note (but lets be real here, when have I ever been able to keep a blog post on a single subject? That’s just not my jam), my sister just started her own website! How super neat-o is that? You should totally go check it out! She doesn’t have a lot going on there yet, but I’m sure she’ll be posting about all sorts of fun adventures that she has with our other sister. Plus all the links to her social media sites are on there and if you’re into adorable animals you’ll want to check those out! You may even see a few guest appearances of some of my critters. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sorry Jessica, I kinda stole your photo. But I figured you wouldn’t mind. ๐Ÿ˜‰ https://www.jessicamartwin.com/

Jeez I’ve just been in a super ramble-y mood lately. I’m sorry if I’m being super boring with these long posts about life, upcoming events, and whatnot. That’s just all I’ve got to talk about at the moment. At the very least I’m not currently in super crazy Green Day fangirl mode. But be warned, it’s coming. The closer we get to August the more I’m going to start freaking out about seeing them in concert again. Remember that post that started off with me “Jumping up and down wildly while screamingย incoherently”? That for real happened. I, a 25 year old “adult” momentarily reverted back to being a 15 year old girl again after purchasing Green Day tickets. Probably not one of my finer moments, but hey, it happens. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ok, I’m going to shut up now before I start rambling again.

Happy February!!ย

I’ve definitely started off the new month on the right foot! Woke up at 5:40 am, made myself some French toast (I don’t know why I’m on such a big French toast kick, but it’s currently working for me.), then read a little bit of Shoe Dog while I had my morning cup of coffee. I honestly can’t think of a better way to start the day/month!

Processed with Rookie Cam

Except that’s kind of a lie, because I totally can! How about a shiny new 10k PR for the first day of February?! That was most definitely the icing on the cake. February is officially off to the best possible start ever! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

img_1423

Not to mention the fact that I did my current favorite workout, which is a 2 mile warm up, 40 minutes of intervals (3 minutes “hard” running, 1 minute walking), followed by a little over a mile to cool down (obviously I had to hit the 10k mark ๐Ÿ˜‰). Oh man, it’s just a lot of fun!

Plus I figured out that the road I found last week goes on a lot further than I had originally though. I’m definitely going to have to investigate this during my long run this weekend.

Processed with Rookie Cam

Not gonna lie though, after the excitement of PRing wore off I was pretty darn tired, so I didn’t end up doing anything too strenuous for the rest of the day haha. I probably should have done some yoga or something, but meh, I was too tired. At the very least I did the whole legs up on the wall thing, so hopefully I wont end up with too much lactic acid in my legs. I guess I could foam roll at some point tonight, but that doesn’t sound like any fun (*sigh* I’m probably going to do it though).

Anyway, after I had showered and eaten I spent quite a but of time (almost 3 hours, I think?) messing with the theme of my blog. Not sure if I’m even happy with it at this point, but I just got too tired of sitting in front of the computer to care. I hate spending long periods of time staring at a computer screen (and I suppose that sounds kinda weird coming from someone who enjoys blogging). My eyes always start to hurt, sometimes I get headaches, and I always end up feeling super tired. Like 90% of what Luke does at work is stare at a computer and I don’t know how he does it! Seriously, I wanted to die after all of the time I spent in front of the computer today. I was actually excited to take a brake from screens and do my usual chores! I’ve literally never been so excited to unload the dishwasher, take out the trash, and sweep the floor haha.

Unfortunately that didn’t last long. After I was done I found myself right back at the computer, typing up most of this post, and parts of a few others. Good thing my run this morning was pretty hard, and I hit my step goal because of it, or else I’d have to feel kinda bad about all the sitting and doing nothing I’ve done today. Well, if you count blogging as doing nothing I guess haha. Jeez, I never thought keeping up with a blog would be this much work! It is fun though and I do enjoy it, but man, I think I could safely go the rest of this week without so much as a glance at a computer or phone or even a tv. I’m all technology-ed out… It really is hard to escape all of the screen time in this crazy modern world we live in. That’s why I think it’s so super important to spend some time outside in nature and disconnecting from it all. Running definitely provides that for me, and that’s one of the many reasons why I love it so much. ๐Ÿ™‚ Walking my dogs and all the gardening I plan on doing this spring also helps provide me with some much needed outdoor time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of gardening (I am the master of segues, I know. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), I’m thinking it’s almost time to do some tilling! I won’t be able to plant much until around late March or early April, but right now it a pretty good time to start preparing the soil! Since it’s been a relatively mild winter (there were a few super cold days, but for the most part it never really stayed that cold and it only snowed twice. Sad face.) the ground isn’t frozen, so might as well get a head start! What I really need to do is turn my compost pile then add some of that to the garden plots before I start tilling. Perhaps that is something I should do this weekend, along with figuring out what all I want to plant. I definitely plan on doing tomatoes again, those are always a good choice. The bunnies really liked the broccoli I grew, even though we only got a few heads of it haha. Oh well, the leafs are full of some awesome nutrients too, and hey, you can’t argue with free bunny food! My cucumbers, while a little bitter, also did really well last year, so I think I’m going to be growing more of them. I for sure want to do another watermelon vine! Last year I tried my damnedest to keep my watermelon plant happy and I only ended up with one stinking melon (although that is better than nothing I suppose), so I feel like I have some unfinished business with watermelon plants haha. Oh man, just thinking about all the plants I want to grow makes me super excited, even though I’m not at all fond of the warmer months, at least I have something to do during them.

Along with all the garden fun, Luke’s been talking about building a small chicken coup and getting a few chickens! Technically you need a permit from the city to do that, but there are several houses in our neighborhood who keep chickens (one guy even has a goose! And doves, and a few ducks, and a bunch of bunnies, and 3 dogs haha). And if that permit is anything like the stupid licence you’re supposed to get for your dogs, then no one actually has one. Seriously, no one that I’ve talked to actually has their dogs licensed with the city. It just seems like a really useless thing to do and a waste of money. Anyway, I would really love to keep our own chickens! That would be so super neat! I miss having chickens, goats, cows, etc…Although I’m not entirely sure how we’d make the chicken thing work unless we build them a super sturdy and covered enclosure. Otherwise I feel like they’d just end up running around the neighborhood. That would be kinda funny though, just to see some chickens walking down the street haha.

I really wish we could get a goat! Then we would hardly ever have to mow our lawn and goats are just fun in general! Unfortunately, the city specifically sates that you cannot own a goat. Boo. That’s no fun. Maybe one day we’ll finally move out of city limits and onto a little bit of land. That would be nice. ๐Ÿ™‚

I realize now that I’ve just gone on a bit of a tangent, and for that I apologize. I just get super excited about those kinds of things!

Anyway, It’s looking like I’m going to be quite busy this summer! Hopefully that means it’ll go by super fast and I wont be so super miserable about being hot (I am seriously the worlds biggest baby when it comes to hot weather). The whole garden thing is going to take up a whole lot of my time, obviously I’m going to continue running and hopefully start training for my 3rd half marathon! Not gonna lie, I kinda want to run Longview for the 3rd year in a row. Since that particular race is so brand new, at this point I’ve only missed the very first year it’s been held! Since it’s only been going on for 3 years that’s not all that impressive, but if I can keep doing this race, it’ll be super impressive when I can say I’ve been running it basically since it started for like 20 years or something. Hey! A girl can dream.

We’ve also got the Florida trip happening with Luke’s mom in July. At this point it’s sounding like we’re going to be in Florida for two weeks. That should be interesting considering my deep hatred of the summer heat, which is only a lot worse in Florida. At the very least, living in the Midwest my whole life has prepared me to deal with humidity. But It’ll probably end up being a really fun trip though. Luke’s mom and two younger siblings moved to Minnesota a few years ago, so we don’t exactly get to see them very often, and now we have a chance to spend two whole weeks with them! I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to keep up with my running scheduled in Florida, but I guess I’ll find a way.

In August my parents will be coming here from Colorado to see Green Day with me! I am so ridiculously stoked for that! It’s going to be soooo much fun!! And I suppose since they’re coming to see me in Kansas, I’m going to have to go visit them in Colorado at some point. And my sister too! She lives on an army base about an hour south of my parents, so at least I’d probably get to see everyone no matter how much time I actually end up spending there. Plus, her husband was just recently deployed to Poland and he’s going to be there for a while, so I’m sure she’s going to end up being kinda lonely…What I reallyย reallyย want to do is some trail running in Colorado! But since I’m not even sure that I’ll be making my way there (even though I really want to this summer) I’m not making any plans or getting too excited about it.

I think that’s all we’ve got planned so far, and honestly I’m hoping we don’t end up doing much else, that’s quite a bit going on already! Plus we’re going to have to figure out what to do with all the critters while we’re in Florida, and what to do about the garden. Especially if I’m going to be gone more than once. I’m sure we’ll figure it out though. We usually do. ๐Ÿ™‚

As for more current things well, we don’t really have much going on right now. Aside from the plans I’ve basically just made about the garden that is. I’d really love to run some 5k’s and 10k’s this spring, but I don’t think we’ll be able to make that happen because money. Darn races just have to be so expensive…Ah well. I’m pretty much content to continue running around my neighborhood. I’m kind of a loner by nature anyway so I don’t really mind missing out on the social aspect of racing, and I’ve got a whole new road that I need to explore! That’ll add some excitement into my usual routine.

So, I didn’t exactly intend on this post being a “this is what I’ve got coming up on my scheduled” kind of deal, but it just sorta happened. I’ve notice that at the beginning of each new month I like to look ahead at what I’ve got planned in the future, just to make sure everything is going to be able to flow together without any big events overlapping and I guess that’s kinda what happened today! Plus I just like to ramble on and on sometimes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So what about you? Got any exciting plans coming up? Spring races? Summer road trips? Concerts of any kind? I want to hear all about it!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you’ve had a wonderful Wednesday!

31 Day Blog Challenge: Favorite Childhood Book

I’ve actually still got my favorite childhood books! And I’ve also considered re-reading them for the billionth time. It’s been a few years (more like 14-15 years haha). I don’t know, I just think it would be fun to dive back into the Little House world!

Anyway, I’ve always been a series girl, even when I was a kid. I just like sticking with characters and story lines for the long haul. So the Little House series was perfect for my little 3rd grade self! I did countless book reports and reading projects on these books. In 5th grade we even did a project where we had to make a doll of our favorite book project, so of course I chose Laura Ingalls. ๐Ÿ™‚

So there you have it, my favorite childhood books. I really wish I had a more exciting story for them, but whatevs.

What’s your favorite childhood book?

Friday Fives: Books

Today’s Friday Fives is a bit different. Instead of five of my favorite books, these are the five books I’ve read most recently and my thoughts on them. I guess there may end up being some spoilers in this post, so reader beware!ย

1. Wizard And Glass

By now you probably know that I’m a huge fan of Stephen King (and you may also recal me mentioning that I’m re-reading the Dark Tower series). I think the Dark Tower series is my favorite works by him. It’s a little bit of horror, a little ย bit of si-fi, and a little bit of a fantasy, all mixed with a western. I suppose that’s a bit of a strange combination, but I think that’s why I like it so much.

Wizard And Glass is the 4th book of the series and it’s also my favorite. This book starts off where The Wastelands left off, but eventually turns into Roland, the book’s mainย character, telling the tale of the very first “mission” he and his first set of ย friends went on. It also tells the tale of his first and only love and the tragic loss of said love. It’s actually quite morbid and totally heartbreaking, but what more do you expect from the King of Horror? ๐Ÿ˜‰

After telling his tale, Roland and his new set of friends continue on their quest to find and save the Dark Tower, perfectly sandwiching a completely different and somewhat unrelated story into the main story line. I think the way Stephen Kind accomplished that was brilliant and I absolutely loved it!

2. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

I was really disappointed with this book.

I’m not going to lie, going into it, all I knew was that it was a “new Harry Potter book”. I didn’t know it was just a script to a play, but I was willing to give it a chance. I also didn’t know it wasn’t JK Rowling who wrote it. I’m not sure what all she contributed, but it doesn’t seem like much (but again, I haven’t done any research on it.)

The whole Albus andย Scorpius friendship seemed super forced and actually, none of the characters seemed very authentic.ย Harry, Ron, and Hermione didn’t feel like themselves, ย which made me super sad. Plus it didn’t even feel like being back at Hogwarts, you know?

I also feel like everything moved to fast. Don’t get me wrong, I get that this is a single book (or play I guess) and not a series of 7 books, but still, I feel like I missed out on a lot of details. Which kinda goes back to the whole not feeling like being back at Hogwarts thing…Honestly the whole thing read like a bad fan fic (which I’ve seen is a pretty common opinion).

I don’t know, I really wanted to like this book and maybe it works better on stage, but man was it a huge let down…

3. Of Mice and Men

S0, I haven’t read this book since I was in like, 6th grade. I totally forgot just how depressing it is. I mean, I knew the ending was super sad, but the whole goddamn book is just full of death and failed dreams. But if I recall correctly, this is a depression ere book, so that makes sense. It’s sill a good read though!

4. The Wind Through The Keyholeย

Another Stephen King book made the list! Yay! ๐Ÿ˜‰

This book is also part of the Dark Tower series, although it was written 8 years (I think) after the very last book in the series was written. So, it doesn’t really have any bearing on the actual story line, but it’s still super interesting!

It gets kinda inception-y though. Basically, It’s Roland telling his friends a story of himself telling a story to a kid who he and one of his old friends was helping. That sounds a lot more confusing than it actually is. Stephen King is really good at writing stories into other stories.

The first time I read this book I hadn’t read anything else from the Dark Tower series, so there were a few things I didn’t quite understand, but I was still able to follow along and enjoy the story. So maybe if you don’t want to fully commit yourself to a relatively long 7 book series (8 if you count this one) until you know what you’re getting into, I’d suggest you start with this book to get a feel for the whole thing.

5. The Little Red Book of Running

This is probably one of my favorite running books, just because it’s so freaking handy! It’s not super detailed about anything but it’s full of helpful little nuggets of information and is a super easy read, which is nice. ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday Fives: 5 Things I’m Currently Super Into

1. Pokemon Go

I’m super obsessed with this app. I mean, it’s basically made all of my childhood dreams come true. I get to venture out into the world on my very own Pokemon adventure. Collecting them and battling gyms as I go. It’s pretty awesome!

2. Coffee

Once upon a time, I was addicted to caffeine (that was waaay back when I was in high school). I got my caffeine fix from sodas and energy drinks and gross stuff like that. But I broke that habit in 2012.

I think I’m hooked on it again though. With all this waking up early that running requires I’ve been heavily relying on coffee to get me going. Add some soy milk and honey. Perfect! ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha at least coffee is better than soda.

3. Death of a Bachelorย

I am absolutely in love with every song on this album! I’ve always liked Panic! At the Disco, but I’ve never been this super into them until now.

5. Avatar: The Legened of Korraย

I’m just now getting around to watching this. I LOVED the first Avatar series so I figured I needed to watch this one too. So far, this one is a lot more heart wrenching than the first one, and I love it!
