Thursday Things

Happy blogging birthday to me!!

As of Tuesday I’ve been blogging here for 3 years! I thought that was pretty neat! I’ve met some really cool people and have felt like I was a part of an awesome community thanks to this blog. It’s been a fun 3 years! πŸ™‚

Coincidentally, 3 years ago was when I started to get into races. I did my first half marathon in November of 2015 and then I did my very first organized “5k” in December of that year. My first 5k-ing experience was definitely an interesting one! The race I did was a super small, Christmas themed one, put on by one of the churches in my town. Unfortunately they don’t put it on anymore or else I totally would have done it again! I think it was one of the most unique races I’ve done as of yet!

  • It was held at night. As far as I know most races are held in the morning, so that was pretty cool! Especially because of all of the Christmas lights!! Which was the whole point of running at night, I suppose.
  • No race bibs. We were given Santa hats that had tiny Santa’s on them that light up instead.
  • Santa drove the course in a lime green VW beetle with the top pulled down and all decked out with Christmas lights. That was a lot of fun!
  • There were maybe 30 people who ran it? That took β€œsmall, local race” to a whole new level!
  • The finish line was one of those little yard tent things you use to shade patios in the summer. Covered in Christmas lights of course! 😊 No fancy time display, timing mats, or time chips.
  • Soooo many people from my town were out cheering on the runners! Honestly this race probably had the best crowd support I’ve ever experienced! And why not?!? It was our friends, neighbors, and police force cheering us on!
  • Remember how I said there was no fancy timing equipment? Apparently there was no measuring of the course either. This run was advertised as a 5k, but it actually came out to be around 3.03 miles. Not a big deal though. At the end of the day it was all just got fun. 😊
  • And last but not least, there was hot chocolate and cookies for all and the end! What’s not to love about that?! πŸͺ

Seriously, it was one of the most interesting and probably most fun runs I’ve ever done! πŸŽ…πŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ And can we just take a second to appreciate how long my hair was?!? Jeez that was kind of excessive and I kinda miss it. πŸ˜‚

Also, fun little fact; that’s the only race I’ve ever done that I didn’t write a race recap for haha. But I mean, I pretty much summed it all up now. So that’ count’s for something, right? πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I just want to take a second to acknowledge how big Whiskey is getting!!

Processed with Rookie Cam

She was such a tiny little thing when we got her, but she is growing into a beautiful dog! Haha you can see one of her ears has gone up. I thought she was going to end up with floppy ears, but it’s looking like I was wrong!! That one just kinda shot up over night! Every once in a while the other one will go up too, but it usually doesn’t stay that way long. But I’m thinking eventually it will end up being pricked too. Hahaha honestly I’m pretty excited about that! Obviously it really doesn’t matter much, but I do like dogs with pricked ears. πŸ™‚

She is a very well built little puppy. She’s been going through a growth spurt and gained 6 pounds in a month hahaha. The vet is thinking she’ll get up to be around 30-35 pounds and I was thinking the same thing. Our vet is also pretty supportive of us breeding Finn to her as long as she doesn’t have any kind of health issues pop up, which is unlikely but it’s always a possibility.

Whiskey and Lily

Hahaha my house is super duper Christmas-y right now and it makes me super happy! πŸ™‚ And now I’ve finally got a gift under my tree!! I’m literally the worst gift wrapper in the world, but Luke’s been threatening to go snooping for what I got him for Christmas so I had to wrap that today. But other than that, that’s the only gift we have under the tree. We’ve mailed some off so we aren’t like behind on Christmas shopping or anything, so that’s good. I temporarily had two under my tree! The little neighbor girl I babysit turned 5 yesterday so I had her gift under the tree for a whole hour haha. She came over today so obviously I gave it to her. Getting gifts is great, but honestly I think I like giving people something I know they’ll really like more! That’s always a great feeling. πŸ™‚ And my neighbor seemed really happy with what I got her. It was just a stuffed Stitch (from Lilo and Stitch πŸ˜‰ ). She told me she was definitely going to sleep with him tonight, so I figured that meant she liked him haha.

Anyway, last night Green Day put out a new music video as kind of a Christmas gift for their fans. Obviously I was pretty excited about that because they are my favorite haha. But I thought it was especially cool because it’s made up of a bunch of different clips from their Revolution Radio tour and they included a bunch of different clips of fans. I just think its really awesome that Green Day seems to love their fans just as much as their fans love them and when they do things like this it just makes you feel like you’re a part of something, ya know?

Hahaha I haven’t fangirl-ed in a while, so I’m not gonna apologize for doing it this time. πŸ˜‰

Okey Dokey, that’s all for today!

Happy Friday eve, I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season!

The Last 10 Photos On My Phone And The Story Behind Them

I saw this idea on one of those “blog post ideas” blog posts, on a blog about blogging that I found on Pintrest hahaha. Does anyone else find blogs about blogging super duper annoying? Like, “here’s a list of 100 of the most generic blog post ideas ever”. Or “here’s how I went from no readers to 304957498679387520984 readers in only 3 months!”.Β  Riiiight I’m sure me paying a bazillion dollars for you’re online guide is really gonna teach me how to accomplish anything. Especially since it’s probably the most generic, vague thing ever. Haha I don’t even know why I bother reading those blogs every once in a while. I always end up super annoyed with how fake the people are and how hard they try to push their guides, tutorials, and “classes” onto people. Whatever. πŸ˜‰

But I did see this idea for a blog post and I did think it would be pretty fun! Especially considering I take photos of just about everything, and have an interesting collection of memes and other photos from the internet, so I definitely have some fun ones on my phone! Not gonna lie though, I cheated a little bit and didn’t use any of the photos that I’ve posted here or on instagram. I figured seeing them for the 8 billionth time would be boring, so I skipped those. But other than that, these really are the last 10 photos on my phone. πŸ™‚

10. Super Spiffy New Socks!

I love socks! Especially thick, warm socks, because unless it’s super hot outside, my feet are always freezing cold. The problem is that I’m also really super good at wearing holes into my socks (and even shoes!) at the very ball of my feet. I’m not sure how I do it, but that means I’m often obtaining new socks. Haha and the more exciting the better! I saw these at Hot Topic and I had to get them because the are adorable!

9. The Continuing Meme War.Β

So my husband and I are at all times in the middle of a meme war. We both spend an absurd amount of time scouring facebook, ifunny, Instagram, Pintrest, and a plethora of other pages looking for the best memes/internet posts, constantly trying to one up each other. Anything involving dogs is usually a very big win, but border collies are even better! πŸ˜‰ Also, this is the best news headline I’ve ever seen.

8. Does This Even SurpriseΒ Anyone Anymore?

Of course I have a bunch of Green Day photos on my phone that I didn’t even take…Haha I want to say I got this photo from greendayauthority.com, but I couldn’t tell you with any certainty. Which really sucks because it’s a great photo from the Uno, Dos, Tre tour and I would love to give the photographer credit for their work (I always try to do that anyway). But anyway, this is one of my all time favorite photos from a Green Day show, and it’s currently the lock screen on my phone haha.

7. Partially Purple Hair, Don’t care.Β

Unfortunatly it’s not this purple anymore. It’s faded out super fast and that really sucks. But it was fun while it lasted (and I might end up doing it again). And in case anyone was wondering, I am the queen of bad selfies.

6. My AppendixΒ Tried To Kill Me Once. Now I’m Short One Appendix.Β

Another meme from the meme wars. My husband actually sent this one to me, because I had an appendectomy when I was 13. Haha I swear I know more about appendixes now that I don’t have one, than I did back when I actually still had mine!

5. Winchester Knows How To Get Comfy.Β

Earlier this week Luke and I started cleaning out my brother-in-law’s old room since he doesn’t live here anymore, but left a piss ton of his stuff behind. So we packed up most of it and have it all in a pile for him to come take. Winchester found said pile and the dog bed on the very top of it all. He is currently very happy about this situation.

Haha alright, that was actually the most recent photo that I’ve taken that I haven’t shared anywhere yet. I underestimated how many photo’s I’ve actually posted here and on my other social media accounts, so I had to back track a litter further into my camera roll for the next 5 photos hahahaha.

4. I Am One Of Those Melodramatic Fools

My Basket Case eyeliner!! I’ve yet to figure out how to make it work on the tops of my eyes, but I’ve definitely got the messy look down on the bottom and I absolutely love it! πŸ™‚

3. It’s Not Uncommon to Find Rabbits On My Furniture.Β

Daisy isn’t a fan of being picked up, or pet. But she does like the chill on the couch next to people and rub her face all over them.

2. My First Tattoo, Featuring My Appendectomy Scar.Β

It is incredibly hard for me to get a decent photo of this thing, which is exactly what I was trying to accomplish haha. It always ends up looking weird and distorted because of the weird angle. Haha oh well. It’s not like it’s a great tattoo anyway, but it’s mine and I love it. It’s also surprisingly holding up pretty well after 6 years of me having it. I was a little worried about all of the super light colors the artist used because those tend to fade faster on some people, but really the only color that actually faded out was some bright orange he put in between the petals. But the yellow, green, and bright pink has held up pretty well!

1. Go Figure The Last One Is Another Green Day Thing…

I had to go all the way back to December 28th for this one! Haha I share a lot of my photos on social media…Anyway, obviously I stole this from Billie Joe Armstrong’s Instagram account. But I liked the message to the “young rock n rollers”, so I screen shot it so I can have it forever hahaha. I’m such a total fan girl….

Alrighy then! Those were the last 10 photos on my phone (that weren’t plastered all over social media) and the stories behind them! I really hope you enjoyed this post because I thought it was a lot of fun and I just might end up doing this again! πŸ™‚

Have a great Saturday everyone!!

Baby Pictures

Yesterday my mom was looking through some of her old photo albums, and she sent me a bunch of my baby pictures. Since I didn’t really have anything else to talk about today, I thought I might as well share them with you guys. πŸ˜‰

Me at 8 weeks, in the womb.

My dad and I.

Me and my Nanny (which is what I call my grandma) in 1992.

Me and my first dog, Brandy. She was part beagle, part dachshund, and lived until we were both 14 years old.

Brandy and I when we were both a little bit older.

My Grandpa and I. Funny story, so I got that stuffed mouse for Christmas, but one of my sisters ended up with it and it became one of her favorite stuffed animals.

Me, my dad, and my mom, petting a tiger at a fair. Note the Simba shirt. The Lion King was my absolute favorite movie as a small child, so even though I don’t look it, I’m sure I was super excited to be petting an animal that was somewhat similar to Simba.

I know some people find old photos to be kind of boring, but I love looking at old pictures. Even if I’m not in them or they aren’t my family’s. That was actually one of my favorite parts of working in a Walgreen’s photo lab. I got to look at pictures almost all day! Haha that’s right, the people who develop your photos definitely end up see some of them. So maybe some people might want to think before they get certain photos printed. I’ve seen some really interesting/weird/gross photos while I worked there.

How My Blog Started:

I just wanted a place where I could talk about running, fitness, food, and other various and random aspects of my life, and a blog seemed like a good place to do it! I did a bit of research and decided that WordPress would be a good place for me to start. And now here I am a little more than a year later, with my own domain name which I think is just so super duper neat, and still sharing all of my fun stories and random ramblings.

One thing I didn’t expect when I started this blog but am so super grateful for, is all of the connections and great conversations I’ve had with some really awesome people. To be honest, I thought most of my blogging adventures would just be me talking to myself, and while that does happen sometimes, it’s definitely not always the case. All of the wonderful people I’ve met and befriended through this blog, WordPress, and even Instagram has definitely made this whole blogging totally worthwhile. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

My Advice For New Blogger

1). Don’t only share the “good stuff”

In my experience, a lot of bloggers, Instagramers, Twitterers, etc, only share the “good stuff”. Good workouts, great races, fun adventures, perfect food, stuff like that. Honestly I think that’s kinda boring and it feels sorta fake to me. No one has amazing workouts all of the time, or has time everyday to make their breakfast perfectly presentable for an Instagram photo or a pintrest post, or can go on amazing adventures everyday, ya know? Life happens and it’s messy. Sometimes I have terrible running days, weeks, even months. Sometimes I want to quite this sport for good and never lace up another pair of running shoes again. 90% of the time my food isn’t “Instagram worthy” and most of my blog posts are about my sometimes boring everyday life. Does that make me any less of of running/fitness blogger? No! If anything I think it makes me more relatable! And personally, I’m much more likely to read/comment/follow a blog that shares everyday life stuff and talks about when things get tough, versus a blog who pretends that everything is sunshine and rainbows all of the time.

2). Write like you’re having a conversation with the person reading your post

Because when you get right down to it, that’s exactly what you’re doing! If you’ve been following me for a while, you many have notice that I tend to say that I’m “talking” about stuff instead if “writing”. That’s because I honestly feel like I’m talking to people on here and not writing an essay or book report or something like that. That’s just boring. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather read a post with real human emotion than a post that sounds almost like it was written by a robot.

So I guess summed up my advice is be real and talk to people. πŸ™‚

I just thought this was a fun little thing to do, no pressure to do it if you don’t want to participate! πŸ™‚

Happy New Year!!Β

Wishing everyone a happy 2017!

Hopefully this year will have better things in store for us all. I feel like 2016 kinda sucked in general for everyone. But even if it didn’t, I hope this year treats you well!

I spent a little bit of time last night looking at my “stats” from 2015 and 2016, and even though 2016 may not have been all that great, I made some pretty impressive improvements running wise, compared to 2015!

Seriously though! I’m pretty impressed with myself right now, there are some crazy differences between the miles and paces I ran those 2 years. Eventually I need to get back onto Nike+ so I can look at my stats from 2013 and 2014. Haha 2013’s stats probably aren’t all that impressive, as I started running in October (I think?) of that year.

While I have made some crazy improvements, I kinda want to up the ante a little bit and aim to run 1,000 miles this year. I know that’s kind of a big jump, but I think it’s totally doable! If my math is correct (and it’s probably not, I’m seriously terrible at math) I’d have to average close to 21 miles per week through the year. That may take a little work, but I definitely think I can make it happen!

As far as times go, I don’t think I’m going to aim for anything too crazy like I did in 2016. My goal for the 10k distance was to cut 5:33 minutes off of my PR from 2015. I got that goal right on the mark, but aiming to shave that much time off of a distance is pretty crazy. I’m thinking for 2017 I’m just going to try to do each distance a little bit faster, so I’d be happy if I just shave a second off of each of my PR’s. πŸ˜„

So I guess that pretty much covers the goals I have for running this year.

Do you have any New Years resolutions? Or are you not into that kinda thing? I don’t typically do the whole resolution thing, I just like to come up with a few goals that I want to work toward throughout the year.

At this point I only have one non-running related goal for the year, and it’s relatively simple; I want to make at least one blog post every day in 2017. Sounds simple enough, right? Haha it’s not like coming up with something new and interesting for 365 days is going to be hard or anything. πŸ˜‰ I’m going to give it my best shot though!

I found a nifty little 31 day blog challenge a while ago, and I though that would be a good way to kick start this 365 day journey. I guess technically this counts as an introduction, so I’m just gonna roll with that and call this day 1!

I suppose if you wanted an actual introduction about who I am and whatnot you could check out my “about” page. All that good stuff can be found there. πŸ˜„

Anyway, I’m super excited to see what this year has in store and I’m very excited to make things happen in my running and life in general!

Happy 2017! πŸŽ†πŸŽ‰πŸΎ

One Year AnniversaryΒ

To be quite honest, I wasn’t sure I’d make it very far with this whole blogging thing. I’m not a particularly good writer, and sometimes I feel like my life isn’t interesting enough or I’m not a good enough runner to be sharing things about either subject on the internet. But now here I am a year later with a pretty solid hobby, some new blogger friends, a little over 200 followers, and an ambassadorship for Honey Stinger. So I’d say that’s pretty awesome! πŸ™‚ Thank you to everyone who follows and talks to me on here, you guys make this blog worth keeping up on.

Processed with Rookie Cam

Just in case you’re new here and want to put a face to a name/blog URL, here’s a lovely photo of me scarfing down a Honey Stinger waffle before my run this morning. πŸ˜‰

Alrighty then! I feel like today is a good day to do a “10 random facts about me” post. I’m almost 100% positive that I’ve done one of these before, I can’t find it anywhere though (I didn’t look very hard, not gonna lie), so forgive me if this post is a bit repetitive, but here we go!

  1. My husband and I got married when I was 20 and he was 21 (so 4 and 1/2 years ago) in my parents’ back yard.
  2. We currently have 2 border collies, 2 cats, 1 ferret, 1 leopard gecko, and 2 rabbits. Oh and my brother in law and his dog live here too, so basically a zoo.
  3. I have 10 piercings and 2 tattoos. One of those tattoos is definitely Green Day related.
  4. I am a huge Green Day fan girl. No shame.
  5. I collect teapots. I currently have 6 “normal” ones, and 2 Christmas themed ones.
  6. I started running late in 2013. I’m still super duper slow, but I’m having way to much fun to care.
  7. I never thought I’d be able to run farther than 5 miles, but now I’ve got 2 half marathon’s under my belt. πŸ™‚
  8. I am currently missing a toe nail, but I didn’t lose it by running, it was a drunken shenanigans indecent.
  9. I have a weird accent! It’s almost like a southern/country accent, but not quite. Apparently it’s a Southern Illinois thing, which is where Luke and I are originally from. Luke makes fun of me all the time because mine is A LOT more pronounced than his, because I grew up in a rural area and he didn’t. He denies having it, but he definitely does!
  10. My biggest dream in life is to be a farmer. Seriously. I want to raise goats, cows, chickens, and border collies, and grow most of our own food. Oh man, that would be soooo awesome! I miss living on a farm…

I feel like that’s a pretty good mix of things. I did my best to make them super random. πŸ™‚

Anyways, my bunnies are fighting and I know who’s being the instigator, so I need to go put her in time out. And Lily is just sitting here staring at me, basically begging me to take her for a walk, so I guess I’ve got some things to do!

Happy Tuesday!
