Hi, my name is Ashley and my husband wont let me get on the roof to take down the Christmas lights that are still up, and today I just solidified his reasoning behind that.
I am a klutz. A huge klutz as a matter of fact, and I’m really good at accidentally hurting myself. I do a lot of weird things like twisting my ankle because I stepped off of a sidewalk weird, or being covered in scrapes and bruises because I’m really good at tripping over absolutely nothing. Honestly the fact that I’ve managed to complete 3 half marathons unscathed is pretty impressive!! But today my klutzy, injury prone fate caught up with me once again.
So here’s what happened…
This morning I tripped, fell, and stubbed my toe on the edge of our couch. That’s a pretty typical occurrence in my life, actually haha. So I checked my toe and it wasn’t red or bruised or anything. It kinda hurt, but I could move it just fine, so I figured it wouldn’t be a problem, so I went out and ran 4 miles. But as it turns out, that ended up being a bad idea.

This is probably the most instagram-y, instagramable, instagram post about winter running ever. π
My toe kinda hurt for the first mile-ish, but after that it stopped so I figured it was fine and kinda forgot about it. After I finished my 4 miles I took a super instagram-y photo, ate some super yummy chili that I had made last night, and then jumped into the shower. That’s when I noticed that my toe was very purple and kinda swollen. So yeah, I guess running n it really was a bad idea.
In all fairness, how the heck was I supposed to know it wasn’t a good idea?!?! My toe didn’t look like that when I put on my running socks/shoes, and really didn’t hurt that bad, so I didn’t think I had any reason not to run haha. So first I texted my sister who is a nurse and an absolute saint for putting up with me when I ask her about things like this. And obviously I’m asking her for medical advise a lot because I hurt myself a lot haha. She told me that it’ll probably fine if I just RICE it and tape it to the toe next to it, and as long as I can still move it I probably don’t need to see a doctor. They wouldn’t really be able to do much for me anyway unless it was badly broken, and I feel like it can’t be that bad if I was able to run on it.
After getting medical advise from my sister, I texted Luke and told him what happened. He was not amused…

Told you I’m always getting hurt hahaha.Β
So yeah, I guess I’m going to spend the rest of my day icing my toe, elevating it, and staying off of it. And I guess I probably won’t be running for a few days, so that really sucks…Ah the joys of being a klutz.

Oh man, I hope it gets better soon. I’m also off my feet (well, not running) for a couple days due to a weird soreness in the ball of my foot. I’m seeing a podiatrist tomorrow though. Good to have a nurse in the family!

Hahaha itβs a rough life to lead! Sometimes Iβm not entirely sure how a person can be so ridiculously uncoordinated, but I prove to myself over and over again just how possible it is. πππ

I do weird things to my toes all the time. Surfing, yoga and working out I guess I get bruised toenails. In November I ran a 10K with painted toenails. When I took off the polish two weeks later, I noticed identical bruised under my big toes. I guess my shoes didn’t fit πππ…let it rest . I also stepped wrong in December and snapped my ankle ligament…It’s all better now π€

Haha thatβs happened to me a few times too! One of my black toenails even fell off once. That was pretty gross. π oh man, that sounds awful! Glad itβs better now!! π
