Weekly Recap: October 16th-22nd, 2017

Monday:

  • 5 miles

I wasn’t exactly planning on going for 5 on Monday, but the weather was nice and I felt good, so it just kinda happened. πŸ™‚ Honestly this run made me a little bit more confident about the half marathon next month. If we get lucky and get nice weather and if I’m feeling good, things should go pretty decently! At least I sure hope so haha.

Tuesday:Β 

  • 5k

This technically wasn’t my fastest 5k (new watch syndrome πŸ˜‰ ), but hey, I’ll take it!! Hahaha honestly this was supposed to be an easy run, but it was another really nice day and was having fun pushing a little bit on the uphills so it just kinda happened. πŸ™‚

Wednesday:

  • Rest day

I was going to do some yoga or something, but I guess I kinda forgot to after my little incident with yet another loose dog while walking Lily that morning. My brand new hoodie got ruined during that little adventure. Sad face…

Thursday:

  • Rest day

Whoa, two rest days in a row? That hardly ever happens because holyshiti’mgonnaloseallmyfitness! πŸ˜‰ Hahah ok not really, but I think you might know what I mean. Anyways, my fancy Garmin Feix 5 said I needed to spend about 50 more hours recovering (or doing an easy effort) on Thursday morning, so I figured I’d better not run. Especially since I slept pretty well but still woke up tired. Haha oh man, that’s never a good thing. But I’m trying to be super conscious and careful about this stuff because I really want to make that half marathon in November happen and it’s coming up so fast and I’m very under trained and feel super unprepared, but I’m gonna go for it anyway! Whew, that felt kinda long winded.

I’m also thinking about signing up for a spring half that I could actually potentially be ready for, but we shall see. I’m also tentatively planning on doing a full marathon in 2019. But just thinking about it scares the shit out of me so we’re not gonna talk about that right now. πŸ˜‰

Friday:

  • 3 miles

Ah this was a really good run. πŸ™‚ My legs felt a little bit heavy, but other than that I felt pretty darn amazing! I actually probably had a few more mile left in me, but since I was planning to do 10 miles on Saturday I figured it was best to stop at 3. πŸ™‚

Saturday:

  • 10 miles
  • ice bath
  • 10 minutes of foam rolling
  • 30 minutes on the stationary bike

Oh man, this run was one of the hardest that I’ve ever done! Like, just from start to finish it was awful. But I did it and I know I’m better for it. πŸ™‚ So I did my ice bath, which was pretty miserable, but totally worth it. Then later that evening I put on my compression sleeves, did some foam rolling, and was about to get some stretching done, but my little next door neighbor came over so that didn’t end up getting done. Haha you can probably see, aside from running, I’ve been doing a whole lot of nothing…No stretching, strength training, I only foam rolled once. Oops.

 

 

Sunday:Β 

  • Rest day

I woke up stiff everywhere. Not sore, just stiff. My legs, abs, arms, and upper back were just super uncomfortable. I probably should have seen that coming though. Yesterday’s 10 miler was the longest run I’ve done since August and this is the highest mileage week I’ve done in a very long time (and considering I’ve only run 21.22 miles this week that’s really not impressive haha). It’s all good though, I’m just glad to be running again. πŸ™‚

Total Weekly Mileage: 21.22Β 

So obviously I’m a very low mileage runner, but I’m planning on working on that over the winter and then over the course of next year. And then I think if I can get up to running around 35-40 is miles a week that I need to start training for a full marathon. So, I’m tentatively planning on that for 2019. Oh man, the thought of that is absolutely terrifying, but it’s also pretty exciting, so obviously I’m gonna have to do it. πŸ˜‰

But I’m also a very injury prone person, so I’m going to need to work on that as well. I mean, part of it is probably from running so I’m going to need to focus more on recovery and strength work if I want to accomplish my goals. But at the same time, most of the injuries that have sidelined me have been because I’m a fucking klutz. Like, this whole knee thing that I’ve been dealing with over last few months happened because I somehow hurt in at the Green Day concert in August. Last year my brother in law dropped a piece of plywood on my toe and that messed it up bad enough to keep me from running for a few weeks. Once like a year or two ago I stepped off of the paved trail I was running on really weird and twisted my ankle. Another time I was doing cartwheels in the apartment that Luke and I used to live in (hahaha yeah, I don’t remember why…) and smacked my foot off of a low part in the ceiling and couldn’t walk for a few days after that. I could go on and on and on. So I guess I just need to be more careful? Haha I’m not sure how else to keep me from hurting myself in the most ridiculous ways possible…
