Happy Monday everyone!
I guess I’ve got quite a bit to talk about today and I’m not entirely sure where I want to start or where I want to go with this little update, since I was kinda absent for most of last week. Haha that’s usually not the best way to go into writing a blog post, that’s typically when I ramble on and on and I worry that I’m not making any sense, but hey, I’m just gonna roll with it today. 😉
Sooooo I guess we’ll start off with the race that I missed on Saturday. I had signed up for the Louisburg Cider 10k way back in May and I was pretty freaking stoked about it! But as you probably know, I got injured in August and haven’t been doing much running since then and was a little bit nervous about trying to do a 6.2 mile race. By the beginning of last week I had a feeling that I was going to be able to cover the distance, the only question was would I be able to do it without re-aggravating my injury.
I never got to figure that out though. Last Monday a friend who I was very close to back in high school died. After I found out about that I didn’t think I was going to want to do it. I’m the kind of person who likes to be alone to process things like this and I didn’t exactly feel like being surrounded by a bunch of happy people that weekend. Especially after I found out his funeral was on Saturday, the same day as the race. Unfortunately Luke and I weren’t able to go, it’s kinda hard for us to drop everything and drive 5 hours to Illinois (where he lived, where the funeral was, and where we’re originally from, if you didn’t know), at such short of a notice.
So instead I did the only thing that made sense and went for a run that morning. 😉 I’m not exactly one to dedicate miles, races, or runs in general to people. That’s just not my thing. But I did do this run sans music, and spend most of it thinking about my friend and all the growing up, fun times and crazy, “bad kid” stuff him, his girlfriend at the time, me, and Luke did together in high school, and prayed for his family. I was really nice. Sad, but exactly what I needed, I think. I’m actually really glad I ran by myself instead of going to that race on Saturday.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a little disappointed that I missed out on my first “official” 10k, that sounded like it was going to be a lot of fun, on what I’ve heard is a beautiful course, but there’s always next year and there’s always other races. 🙂
Alrighty I guess that’s kinda a nice segue into the topic of the Longview half marathon, which is on November 11th, which I have signed up for, which is suppose to be my 3rd half marathon, and I am absolutely scared shitless about it. I mean I basically missed out of two months of training. I did very little running in August and almost no running in September and I’m just starting to really get back into “training” for it right now. Like right now I am just terribly overwhelmed by the fact that I only have one month to attempt to get into some kind of shape to run this thing. I’m not gonna try for any kind of PR, or time goal or whatever (although I would like to finish before the cut off time, which is 3 hours), but at this point I have no idea if I’m going to be able to do that. The last long run I did was a 9 miler back in the beginning of August and if I’m able to stick with the pace I did during that run I’ll be ok, but like I said, that was back in August and it was only 9 miles. So yeah, I’m hardcore freaking out about this thing now.
Yesterday I sat down and wrote out a plan for what I’m hoping to accomplish this month. It involves absolutely no speed work, just getting in some miles, and mostly focusing on getting in an 8 mile long run, 10 mile long run, then a 12 mile long run, and then basically “tapering” the week before the race to hopefully let my legs get a chance to rest and be fresh on race day. If I can’t get those miles in, if they don’t go well, or if my knee starts acting up again I think I might email the race director and see if they can’t just bump me down to the 5k. I mean, I don’t see why they couldn’t. Especially since I’m not looking for any kind of refund or anything. Haha I’m actually not sure how the protocol for all of that goes, but I assume it wouldn’t be a good idea to not ask the race director and then try to do the 5k with a half bib. But anyway, that’s just plan “B” for now. I’m still aiming for that half marathon at this point though.
Anyway, I started very slowly easy back into running last week. Managed to get a whole 11.7 miles done. 😉 My goal for this week it to continue easing back into things and doing an 8 mile long run, so I guess we shall see how that goes. Kicked off the week with an easy 3 mile run, followed by a few strides just for fun. It was a beautiful morning and I felt pretty darn good, so hopefully that’s a good sign!

So lets talk about our new little girl ferret! She finally has a name!!! Haha like, 2 weeks ago I had been asking pretty much everyone for name suggestions because both of us were pretty much drawing blanks. Someone on my Vidme channel suggested Harley Quinn, sticking with our Batman theme since our other ferret’s name is Bruce Wayne. Haha that seems soooo freaking obvious! We’re not sure why we didn’t think of that right away! So yeah, she has a name now. 🙂
As far as her adjusting to life here, she’s doing very well! She and Bruce became very fast friends and they’re pretty much inseparable at this point (which is funny, because Bruce has been alone for 3 years). They’re pretty much always cuddling when they sleep, they eat together, drink together, and get into lots of trouble together. 🙂 Haha but they both seem very happy with each other and I’m very glad about that.
I suppose that pretty much covers everything I wanted to talk about today and I don’t think I ended up being to ramble-y. 🙂 I hope everyone has a good Monday and a great week!
