Holy Hell Hamstrings!!

Hahaha not gonna lie, I only went with that title because alliteration. I believe today is day 12 of half marathon training.

Seriously though, my hamstrings are just totally fucked today. They are tight, sore, and it’s hard to walk. Which is super weird because usually it’s my quads that put me into this situation. They are chronically tight which has caused me hip and shin issues in the past. But that’s a whole other thing, and they’re aren’t giving me any issues at the moment. Well, fingers crossed, but I’ve been making a point to make sure that my quads don’t give me anymore issues haha. But anyway, I feel like my hamstring tightness was caused by my pushing on the uphills yesterday. The half marathon I’m training for is crazy hilly, so I’m trying to focus more on hill work this time around. And at the price of my hamstrings apparently!

So today I was supposed to do an easy 3 miler and I seriously considered just toughing it out and going for it, but eventually I decided that would have just done more harm than good. So I’m switching today and a rest day around. Problem solved! Well hopefully haha.

Now I didn’t just sit around and hope my hamstrings would feel better. πŸ˜‰ This morning I did a few stretches and foam rolled them, my calves, and quads while drinking my coffee and watching Netflix. Not gonna lie, I’ve been on a Netflix bender lately. I’m currently watching Women Behind Bars. Interesting and kinda sad stuff.

Anyway, after I did some stretching and foam rolling my hamstrings felt a bit better so I decided to dye my hair. Haha since it’s such a long process it’s a lot easier to do on a day when I don’t do any kind of workout. Or anything really. It takes a little over 3 hours for the whole process to finish ( an hour and a half for the dye it sit in my roots, an hour and a half for the dye to sit in the rest of my hair, and not to mention the time it takes to apply the dye and then shower). And I don’t exactly like to do much but sit when I have the dye in my hair because I don’t want to get it all over the place. That would really suck.

So while I was sitting with the dye in my hair, my mom called and told me that she and my brother are on their way to Illinois from Colorado and they want to stop at my house on there way there. So obviously I told them that was fine, I just needed to know when they were going to be here because my dad’s dog is with them and Lily and Dean don’t get along with him. Finn’s never met him before and I plan to keep it that way because my dad’s dog is a 120 pound Caucasian Shepard and my dogs are 35-45 pound border collies and any altercations that they might get into wouldn’t end well for them.

But anyway, after the dye was done sitting in my hair I took a nice hot shower to rinse it all out and whatnot. That had definitely helped my hamstring situation. They felt much more relaxed after that. πŸ™‚ Then I just kinda picked up the house and waited for my mom and brother to get here.

They showed up around 3 pm with monster dog Niko and Ace (who is a very good boy) in tow. My poor dogs had to be put up, but it was for there own good. My brother napped for a while and my mom and I just hung out. 

Once Lukr got home from work he grilled some hamburgers and we all hung out for a while. I guess my moms decided they’re staying the night so I guess well see how that goes.

    Hamstrings are tricky. Mine seem crazy tight a lot. I’ve done stretching with a rope, downward dogs and all kinds of stuff that has never really gotten them to feel completely stretched out. When I incorporated foam rolling this past week, I was like “ouch”! And I guess that means it works. Either that or it’s the full weight of my 165 pound body smooshing them. But hey, if it improves the running you just go with it.

      Usually it’s not my hamstrings that give me trouble, typically it’s my quads. But I totally feel ya! I do all sorts of stuff to get those suckers to loosen up lol. Sometimes it’s no fun, but it’s totally necessary.
