What in the world is this shit?!? Why was it 55 degrees at 7:30 in the morning, in January? Ugh, seriously I’m not a fan…What’s really weird is later this week we’re supposed to have some big winter storm. Welcome to the Midwest, I guess. I just hope it gets cold again like it’s supposed to.
Anyway, I woke up super sore this morning because yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to do an hour long Jillian Michaels video that I haven’t done in forever. Yeah, I only made it through the first half of the video and got reminded of how out of shape strength wise I really am. So I suppose it was actually a good idea to do the workout video, and then continue doing strength stuff like that.
Back in 2014 I was really into Jillian Michaels and all her workouts. Back then I was stronger, 20 ish pounds lighter, and a better runner. Well, maybe “better” isn’t the right word. Back then I wasn’t running anywhere near the mileage I am nowadays, but I was a lot faster.
I’m trying not to look back at where I was though, I’m trying to focus on moving forward and improving from where I am, right now. But knowing that I do seem to be more fit when I actually work on strength training is a pretty good incentive to start doing it more regularly again. 😄
So like I said, woke up super sore this morning. Mostly in my glutes, inner thighs, and triceps. I’m actually super stoked that my core isn’t sore! The video I was doing has some crazy core work but I managed it just fine and my core feels great today! So at least I know I’ve been working my core adequately. But since other parts of me were sore, I was kinda dreading the 10k I had scheduled for today, and the warm weather definitely didn’t help that situation. So I made a little compromise with myself, and instead of doing 10k I did 4 easy miles instead, and to keep on track with my goal of running 1,000 miles this year, I’m going to add those two extra miles to my long run this week. No big deal. 😉
Anyway, those 4 miles sure didn’t feel easy! Between me feeling sore and wind gusts at 23 mph, this run was kinda tough! But I did it and I’m probably better for it. At the very least I’m just getting more and more accustomed to running on tired legs, which is a good skill for someone who wants to run long distances to have.
After my run the temperature started dropping and by 2:30 it was 41 degrees and the wind had died down a bit (and by that I mean the gusts were 19 mph instead of 23). So yeah, I kinda wish I would have waited to run until this afternoon but can’t do anything about that now. It’s looking like the high for tomorrow is going to be close to 60, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if we actually get this winter storm they’re calling for or just a bunch of rain.
Either way, that means there is going to be a lot of mud, which means the dogs won’t get to spend much time outside and we probably won’t take them to the dog park for like the 3rd week in a row. It’s not like we never let them get dirty or anything, it’s just that it’s super hard getting mud out from their feet because they have a lot of hair in between their toes and the mud clumps on it and gets really nasty. And the both like to roll. Grass, mud, snow, it doesn’t matter, the first thing they do every morning when I let them out is roll around on the ground. So when it’s muddy they bring all that nastiness in with them, and I don’t know about you, but having mud all over the floor/walls/furniture drives me absolutely crazy. So when it’s super muddy out the dogs just have to stay inside or on the street when I walk them.
I guess that means I’m going to do be doing a lot of dog walking later this week, or else I’m going to have two bored border collies. Trust me when I say that having two high energy dogs full of pent up energy is absolutely no fun. If they were younger or not properly trained that would also mean things would get destroyed. Luckily they are neither of those things so I don’t have to worry about that, but they will follow me around all day everyday trying to convince me to let them out. And God forbid someone accidentally says the word “park” or “leash” or “outside” I swear these dogs are too smart for their own good…
I suppose I could use the upcoming bad weather as a chance to teach them new tricks. That would keep up all pretty busy for a little bit. To be honest though, I’m not big on dog tricks. I mean, tricks are neat and Lily and Dean know a few, but to me dog training involves teaching them manners and how to live in a house with humans and other pets, and whatever commands their “jobs” require. Anyway I’m going to shut up about dogs now, because I could literally ramble on and on and on about this kind of stuff. 😉
Instead of rambling on about dogs, I’m going to ramble on about Green Day for a little bit. So they’ve actually decided that they are going to come to the Midwest during the Revolution Radio tour this year, and they will be in KC on August 11th! Yay! Unfortunately I get the feeling I won’t get to see them though. Not so yay…
Luke and I got to see them back in 2009 in STL during the 21 Century Breakdown tour. Oh man, that was so much fun! We had pretty awesome seats (I don’t do pits) and the tickets were only $36 before taxes and fees and all that bullshit (I think all together for 2 tickets it ended up being close to $130). But now 8 years later and in a different city, I feel like ticket prices are going to be crazy. Plus the pre sale for idiot nation members (it’s basically a paid fan club thing that I am no longer part of) is today, then tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, but even if we were to buy tickets it would have to wait until next week and there may not be any more left by then.
I know this is a first would problem at it’s finest, but it still makes me sad and I’m going to be throwing myself one hell of a pity party until well after this concert happens. Unless I somehow get to go. Either way I’m never going to shut up about it. 😉
So yeah, running, my dogs/other pets, and Green Day. That pretty much sums up a good majority of my life at the moment hahaha. There are other things in the works though; Luke’s mom is planning a big trip to Florida in July, I’m sure I’ll end up visiting my sister and parents in Colorado this year, and hopefully at some point this year I’ll run another race or two (or three or four 😉 ). But at the moment nothing too crazy exciting is going on so I feel like all of my posts about my day to day life are kinda boring. Oh well, that’s just life I suppose. 🙂
I hope you’ve had a great Tuesday!
