Highlights Of The Year: General Life Stuff

Holy cow guys! There are only two days left in 2016. How crazy is that?! Is it just me or did this year fly by?

As the year is coming to a close, I thought it would be fun to look back at some of the highlights from the year. This is just going to be general life stuff that has nothing to do with running. I’ll be posting my running highlights tomorrow. πŸ˜‰

Puppy Party!

Dean turned a one in January and Lily turned 6 in February, so of course we through them a birthday party. There was cake and everything!

Bunnies

We got bunnies this year!! We spent 8 hours building a rabbit hutch that Luke designed himself. That was a fun day (and I only mean that a little bit sarcastically). Then we got Daisy in March and Rey in April. The original plan was only one, but Luke found Rey on craigslist and she was so floofy and adorable so he picked her up that very day. I’m glad we ended up with two though, they took to each other right away and now they are pretty much inseparable.

They’ve been a lot of fun to take care of and play with. Plus they are just too cute!

Garden

Our garden did super well this year! We got soooo many tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers that we literally didn’t know what to do with them all! But that’s usually a good problem to have!

We’ve been a able to feed the bunnies pretty much for free from stuff from the garden. They really enjoyed the broccoli plan leafs and tomatoes. They also really like bananas, but we have to buy those obviously haha.

We also have a shit ton of stuff that we’ve canned. I’m pretty sure at one point we had 12 jars of pickles? Even if it wasn’t 12, it was a lot. We also have a bunch of tomatoes, pickled tomatoes, and tomato sauce.

Oh and I grew a watermelon!! Only one and it was kinda small, but last year I tried so so so hard and I just couldn’t get one to get big enough to eat. But this one did and it was really yummy! Maybe next year I’ll be able to get two watermelons. πŸ˜‰

My dad turned 50 this year

I’m super glad Luke and I were able to go to Illinois and celebrate with him and the rest of my family. We always have a good time when we’re all together, especially my dad and I. Haha I’ve kinda always been a daddy’s girl. πŸ™‚

Colorado road trip

This was another good time with my dad! One day he just randomly showed up at my house because he was driving from Illinois to Colorado for his work, and Kansas is quite conveniently right in the middle. So he hung out with us for a while, ate dinner, and napped on our couch. At some point he asked me to go with him, so around 5AM the next morning we were on our way to Colorado!

I spend most of our time in Colorado in a motel room. We didn’t exactly get to do much the week we were there because my dad was there for work, but the things we did do totally made up for it! We walked on a really nice nature trail, hiked at Lory State Park, and then the day we went home we drove up Pike’s Peak.

Pike’s Peak was amazing! The day we went there was a half marathon so I got to see the finish line, and a whole mess of runners, some of whom I talked to. Good times. πŸ™‚

While we were at pikes peak we hiked to the top of this really neat rock formation. Oh man, trying to hike upward at 14,110′ of elevation is freaking hard! It was a lot of fun though! πŸ™‚

I know that was a lot of pictures, but Colorado is a beautiful place! You can read more about our Colorado adventures here (Colorado Bound), here (The Sunflower State and Colorful Colorado), here (Colorado Adventures Part 1), and here (Colorado Adventures Part 2).

Revolution Radio

I, along with every other Green Day fan out there, have been waiting a little bit impatiently for 4 years for new Green Day. I’ve talked so much about this album on here that it’s not even funny, so I’m just going to say that it was totally worth the wait and is officially one of my favorite albums ever.

I think that pretty much covers everything from this year!

What are some of your highlights of 2016?

Did you go on any fun adventures?

Do you have any adventures planned for 2017?

Funny that you mentioned Green Day today. Earlier this week, Green Day came on while I was on the treadmill and my first thought was about you and your love for Green Day. This will probably happen for years now whenever Green Day gets played while I am running.

My unquestioned personal highlight of 2016 would have to be running the Boston Marathon. I will be running a few more races in 2017, including the Chicago Marathon in October and the Cape Cod Ragnar Relay in May. Non-running related, the big thing I am looking forward to is a family trip to Florida to coincide with my birthday the third week of January. Maybe I will even blog about it! I have not been blogging enough lately.

    Happy New Year!

Haha Haha that’s great! That tends to happen to people who know me. πŸ˜‰ And what a freaking highlight that is! From what I remember about your post about it (I’m going to have to go back and read it again) it sounded like you had an awesome time in Boston! I think you mentioned your daughter enjoying hearing Sweet Caroline at Fenway Park? That had to be so neat! Ooh sounds awesome! From what I’ve heard, Chicago is one of the best Marathons to run! Wishing you a very happy training cycle for your races!! Sound like fun! Family trips anywhere usually are though (at least in my experience). Haha funny enough, my mother in law is planning a trip for a bunch of us to go to Florida too! We won’t be there until July though. You totally should! I miss reading your blogs! Same to you, friend!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Yes, good memory about Sweet Caroline at Fenway!

The Chicago Marathon is indeed a great one. The course is very flat and the weather is often cool-ish, so people tend to post good times there. It’s also popular enough so that they have a lottery system now, but if you run it 5 times in a 10-year span you become a Legacy Finisher and get a guaranteed entry in future years. I got picked in the lottery for 2017, which will be by 5th, so I will be a legacy finisher.

Any idea where in Florida you’ll be going this summer?

That’s awesome!! Oh man, the way my mother in law tells it, we’re going everywhere in Florida lol. So far all I know for sure is that we’ll be staying in a villa and going to a beach. But no matter what we do, it should be fun!

I totally feel ya! Luke and I want to make our way out to Colorado to visit my sister and parents, but life man lol. Thanks! I’m glad they turned out well for just being taken from an IPhone. I really need to get a new DSLR, mine broke a while back lol. But I believe all of my Colorado photos can be found in these posts. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
