I slept right through my 6:45 alarm this morning. Oops. I guess I needed a little extra sleep though, because I woke up at 8 feeling pretty great (look at me, rhyming and stuff 😉 )! So I ate a little breakfast, drank a little coffee, and did my run a little later than I had planned, but it ended up working out ok.
I had to modify my workout a bit. I guess I was feeling a bit overambitious, as my original plan was to run up the entirety of the “big hill” in my neighborhood and then jog back down. Something I could do a few months ago during half marathon training, but something that definitely wasn’t about to happen today. During my 1 mile warm up my legs were already feeling like lead and jello all at the same time, so I decided that today I wasn’t going to tackle the whole hill. I ended up running about 1/4 of it 3 times and then walking down to recover. Wasn’t the most fun experience ever. Actually, that part was kinda miserable if I’m being honest, but I’m glad I got it done.
After I finished my repeats I ran super easy for another 1.2 ish miles, mostly so I would hit 3 miles, but also because I needed to cool down. During my cool down I saw some construction workers out on the street I was planning on turning on to. A couple of them were already watching me, so I decided I wasn’t about to deal with that today, and turned around. That meant I had to run back up another hill, which was what I was trying to avoid by turning onto the other street, but I’m glad I ended up doing it because I met my kitty friend at the top of the hill!
You may remember me talking about him before, I met him at the park in the summer and now I see him there all the time, so I suppose he must live somewhere nearby. He’s one of the most friendly cats I’ve ever met. The second he saw me he came running and was basically begging to be pet. So I stopped for a few minutes and did just that. He does the same thing to pretty much any other person he sees, I see him getting love from all sorts of people, especially little kids, at the park all the time. He’s got a very busy social life. 🙂
Anyways, that brings me to day 13 of my running streak. I’ve officially past the point where I had to quite last year, and aside from my legs feeling a bit jello-y, I’m feeling alright. I am, however, thinking that this whole streaking thing may not be for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely finishing this one, hell I’ll probably even do it again next year, but I don’t think I’m ever going to be one of those people who streaks for a year or 100 days, or anything like that. I definitely enjoy taking total rest days. Like I said though, I’m seeing this thing to the end!
It’s looking like there may be some snow running in my future! This Wednesday to be exact. At this point it’s only a 50% chance, but hey, that’s better than a 0% chance! Unfortunately it’s looking like we’re going to have another mild winter here in Kansas. Boo. All over Instagram I’m seeing people posting about blizzards, winter wonder lands, and 12 inches of snow. I’m super duper jealous, but I’m just going to have to enjoy whatever snow we get, I guess.
Anyway, after running and obsessing over the weather, I did a bunch of cleaning, then got my strength training on! I’ve definitely jumped back on to the blogilates bandwagon. For quite a while I’ve been nothing but bored when it comes to strength work, but I’ve been doing her videos a little more consistently and I’m starting to have fun with them again! Today I did 30 minutes of abs and arms. Holy cow are my arms weak! Haha I definitely need to keep up with this strength stuff.
So yet again, my dad has invited me to do a step challenge with him on Garmin Connect. So far he’s won for 3 weeks in a row. I’m not gonna let that happen this week! Unfortunately he has an advantage over me, since I do all of my walking during the day, so he can see that and then walk more than me, since he does most of his moving at night/early in the morning. You’d think a truck driver wouldn’t be able to get 16,000 steps in a night, but somehow he does! He’s totally going down this week though. Every day I’m going to make a point to go over my 10,000 step goal. I didn’t get as many steps in today as I would have liked, but it’s a good start!
I’ll just have to wait and see how far ahead of me he gets tonight. Jeez these step challenges make me more competitive than I’ve ever been in my entire life!
