Tomorrow’s the big day; I’ll be taking on the Longview Half Marathon for the second time!
Oh man, nothing gets you into the mood for a half marathon like a gynecological exam. Probably should have gone about scheduling these things a little better, but oh well. The nurse at the doctors office was a runner, so we talked about that a little bit. She asked me why I’d want to do Longview two years in a row because she’s heard the course is brutal. Haha I mean, it kinda is, but it’s a lot of fun.
Anyway, after that we went grocery shopping, ate lunch at Panera (I needed their mac and cheese because carb loading 😉), then we made our way home and Winchester and I kinda dozed on the couch for a little bit.
A little later in the afternoon, I double checked my gear, made sure I have everything I need, and made sure that my bib and timing chip were properly secured. Everything seems to be in order!
As you can see, I’ve opted to wear a long sleeved t-shirt instead of my tank top. This is kinda going against what I think is my better judgment, but it’s supposed to be pretty chilly in the morning. No cloud cover though, so at this point I’m just hoping I don’t end up having a heat stroke…Alright, I’ll admit that’s a bit dramatic, but I tend to heat up fast and I’m a big baby when it comes to being hot. But I don’t know man, something’s telling me that the long sleeved t-shirt is the way to go, so I’m just gonna roll with it. 👍🏻😬
The more I look at the weather, the better I feel about my outfit choices. In all honesty the weather does look pretty nice. I’d be a little big happier with some clouds, but I can live with these temperatures. If all goes according to plan, I should be finishing a little before 11 am, so I’ll probably start getting a little uncomfortable in my long sleeve shirt near the end, but it shouldn’t be too bad.
I’m kinda glad this is almost over with just so I can stop obsessing over the weather! It’s getting kind of exhausting.
I’m also kind of sad this training cycle is coming to an end. I’ve had a few bad weeks, and I know I tend to whine a lot, but I’ve really had a lot of fun. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super excited about this race right now, but once it’s over I won’t have a big goal to work towards for a while. But I do have a few things to look forward to, like the Runner’sWorld winter streak, and maybe a Christmas themed 5K, so at least there’s that!
I also really need to work on eating better and I probably need to get back on the weight loss bandwagon, but I’m not even going to begin to worry about that until probably after Thanksgiving haha! I suppose I could make something along those lines a big goal, but like I said, I’m not going to worry about that right now. 😉
I’m starting to get a little off track here, so bringing it back to half marathon stuff; right now I’m still super excited and I feel really good! I’m not nervous at all, but last year that didn’t really kick in until the morning of, so I guess I’ll have to wait and see if the nerves are going to kick in. I’m sure they will, though. I’ll just have to keep reminding myself that I’ve done this before, and I did a 12 mile training run that went really well, so I’m totally ready for this!! 😄
Alrighty then, I guess that pretty much covers everything! I probably won’t be posting here for a few days. This is my big race of the year, so I want to take time to enjoy every moment and then collect all of my thoughts before I post about it here. I’ll be regularly updating my Instagram though, so you can follow me there if you want to know what I’ve got going on tomorrow and over the next few days!!
Wishing everyone a happy weekend, and good luck and have fun to anyone else who’s racing this weekend!
