The Adventures Of Half Marathon Training: Day 62

Ah, the 6:45 alarm came way to early this morning. But in the end I’m glad I got up and out of the house by 8 am (with a little help from caffeine, I don’t think I would have done it otherwise. 😉) It’s supposed to thunderstorm tonight so it’s crazy humid out. Ew. But luckily I wasn’t too miserable because the pavement didn’t have a chance to heat up too badly.

Anyway, I finally got a long run done!! Haha it was super crazy slow and I pretty much felt like I was dying during the last two miles, but since this is the first long run I’ve done in 3 weeks I kinda anticipated that happening. But now that I did it every long run should feel a little easier. Haha well, I should be a little more comfortable with covering longer distances at the very least. 😉

So to tackle today’s run, I broke it up into 2 miles segments. That’s really easy to do since each street in my neighborhood is almost a mile long. They’re actually closer to .90 of a mile, but that’s close enough for me. So I’d run up one street and then run back down it the opposite direction to get to almost 2 miles. Then I’d stop at my house get a quick drink of gatorade and water, then repeat the process 3 more times. Boom. Piece of cake. 😉

Took me a little over two hours, which put me at a 15:37 minute per mile pace. Ridiculously slow, but I anticipated that. 

Doing this workout in my neighborhood instead of the trail where I like to do my long runs means I encounter more hills, which is exactly what I wanted. The half marathon I’m doing in November is full of fun hills and even some awesome cross winds coming off of the lake the course goes around, so I want to be more prepared for that this year. Even if that means boring myself running around my neighborhood 8 million times.

So today was a bit boring and pretty tough, but I’m glad I did it and hopefully my long runs will feel better and I won’t have to skip anymore of them.

    Nice job breaking your run into segments! I also see that you’re eating Honey Stingers for fuel. Aren’t those the best? I eat the organic honey ones before my long runs.
