Guys!! There is only a week and a half left in August!!!! Summer is almost over! It’s going to start cooling down soon! Just thinking about cooler weather makes me ridiculously happy!!!
Now that I got that little outburst out of the way, I suppose it’s time to get down to buisness. I’ve been in Colorado all week with my dad, so I’ve been running at almost 5000′ above sea level! That’s quit a bit, considering the part of Kansas I live in is just a tiny bit over 1,000′ above sea level. Unfortunately I’ve been running on a shitty motel treadmill, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. 😁
- 30 easy minutes on the treadmill
Most of Monday was spent driving around and my dad doing adult stuff (I’m still in denial about being an adult. Yay for being a perpetual teenager! 😉). When we finally got back to the motel my dad went to sleep, so I went to run.
My schedule called for 40 easy minutes, but I have trouble staying on the treadmill that long…plus I really started to feel the elevation change, so I cut it 10 minutes short. I also ran in my socks! Because, I don’t know, it just felt better and I wear out my shoes super fast on treadmills, so yeah.
- 3 ish mile walk with my dad
- 25 minutes of sorta speed work on the treadmill
We found a nice paved trail on Monday, so Tuesday we went walking on it. That was nice, and the views were pretty.
When we got back from doing that I took to the treadmill and attempted to do some speed work. I set the treadmill to a pace that felt slightly difficulty (not sure how fast that actually was, since this treadmill sucks ass) and ran that way for the duration on 1 song (so 2-4 minutes), stopped the treadmill, caught my breath and drank some water, and continued that for the next 25 minutes. The elevation didn’t bother me as much on Tuesday, but it still made things feel more difficult.
- A 1 ish mile hike in Lory Sate Park
- 30 easy minutes on the treadmill
- Travel Yoga followed by a few headstands
On Wednesday my dad and I ventured out to Lory State Park. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay very long because my dad had to get some sleep before heading to work again. But we got a little bit of hiking done and every minute we we’re there was worth it.
Once we got back from that we made streak in our motel room haha. I had to wait 2 hours to run after that, but I still got my 30 minutes in. 😄
- Rest Day
Working a night then adventuring with me finally caught up with my dad. He got back from work at 6 am went to bed and slept until pm. I guess that worked out for me, as Thursday is usually a rest day for me anyway. I spent my day laying on the motel room floor and looking at memes on my phone. Kinda boring, but oh well.
- Rest day
I was supposed to do a fartlek today, but I ate too much for breakfast, I didn’t want to run on the treadmill, I wasn’t feeling that great (Luke and my brother-in-law we’re both sick earlier this week. I hope I’m not getting it too), blah blah blah excuses.
Actually, after walking around a little bit through town with my dad, I relized just how tired I was. I guess being away from home and at a high elevation is affecting me more than I though. So maybe an extra rest day wasn’t a bad thing.
- Travel day
I would say rest day, but spending 18 hours in a car and hiking up a hill at 14,000′ above sea level isn’t very restful haha. Before driving home my dad and I drove to the top of Pikes Peak and that’s when we did our hike. It was short, but at that elevation we weren’t about to go far!
Ahhh home sweet home!! I didn’t get much of a break today either. Luke and I planted more broccoli. That required some tilling and hoeing. Then I did a lot of cleaning. Haha the house was kind of a mess after me being gone for a week, but I guess that’ll happen. Now we’re getting pizza for dinner! Yay!!
Anyway, this weekly recap was a little long winded, so thanks for hanging in there with me!
