5 AM Wake up Call, Morning Run, Spick and Span, On the Road Again, and More Family Time

To say that today has been a long day, would be a but of an understatement.

It started at 5 am when the alarm on my phone went off. Is it just me, or are the iPhone alarms all just the worst sounds ever? Well, maybe not ever, but that early in the morning they sure aren’t fun…

That’s just another joy of summer running I suppose. Having to wake up super early to get out before the sun is full in the sky and the before the humidity gets too bad. Have I mentioned that I can’t wait for this season to get over? Because I can’t. I want it to be fall again. ☹️

Anyway, today’s run didn’t exactly go well. I had planned on doing 6 miles but that just wasn’t happening today. The second I stepped outside I knew today was going to be rough. The humidity was TERRIBLE! Plus there was a heat advisory today, so I should have just assumed I wasn’t going to make all 6.

You know it’s bad when it starts that early in the morning…

I decided I was going to play it safe and run/walk so that’s probably the only reason I even made it 4 miles. I was beat 2 miles in, so I thought about stopping at 5, but around 3.5 miles I started getting a bit dizzy. So I stopped at 4 (I was half a mile away from home and I wanted to get back as quickly as I could, or else I probably would have quit right then and there).

My average pace was actually a little faster than it has been for my 4 mile runs. Not gonna lie, I’m not sure how I accomplished that, but I’ll take it!

I know that’s still patheticly slow, but I’m really really really hoping all these tough summer miles will toughen me up for the fall/winter, and that I’ll be able to manage some faster average paces. I keep telling myself that summer miles bring fall smiles, and I hope like hell THATS true.

After I had showered and eaten a bunch of cookies (don’t judge, cookies are 100% necessary after a hard/disappointing run πŸ˜‰), I went back to bed and kind of dozed for a bit.

Around 9 I finally got my ass in gear and got the house “spick and span” in my husband’s words (or at least as close to as possible). We’re going to Illinois for the weekend to visit family. The 14th was my sisters’ birthday (they’re twins!), Father’s Day is Sunday, and my dad’s birthday is the 21st, so we’re basically celebrating all of that at once! Haha God thing those alway fall so close together.

But anyway, my husband wanted the house to be spotless because my brother-in-law is staying here by himself for the first time ever and I guess we’re both a but nervous about that (he can’t get off work so he can’t come with us). We’re hoping that it f the house is clean he won’t want to do anything shady because he’s going to have to pick up after himself all weekend. And if he were to do anything (not saying that he will though) hopefully we’d be able to tell. But it’s whatever, the house needed cleaned anyway, and I pretty much got everything done!

So since it’s a 5 hour drive to Illinois, my husband took part of the day off so we could leave earlier and have a little more time to spend with people.

We got the car packed up, stopped at a gas station for snacks and were on the highway but 1:30. We got caught in traffic in St. Louis, but we finally made it to my parents house at 6:30.

So yeah we’re all just hanging out and enjoy each other’s company!

My siblings and I.

My dad is awesome!!

Have fun in my current home state of Illinois! I know you don’t like the heat, but better to visit here now than in the winter.

This is a cluttered time of celebration in my family as well. Today is my brother’s birthday, Sunday is Father’s Day of course, and then Tuesday will be the 8th wedding annniversary for my wife and me!

Thanks! I actually spent the first 20 years of my life in Illinois, so the heat isn’t new to me. I still prefer the winters here in Illinois, but I’m from the St. Louis area, so it’s not as bad here as it is in northern Illinois. Oh wow, sounds like your going to be busy too! Happy early anniversary to you!! πŸ™‚

Haha it’s actually hotter in Kansas than it is here, so it’s a nice change! πŸ˜‰ I actually grew up here in the St. Louis area, so the Illinois heat isn’t exactly new to me. Thank you!!

Oh yeah! Lily has actually done some herding back when we lived there, so she always gets super excited when she sees the cows. Haha and they don’t particularly like her. πŸ˜‰
