I know I’ve been complaining about warmer weather and summer running since about April and I’m sure it gets old after awhile, but I’m probably not going to stop anytime soon.

Running in the heat never goes well for me. Today I ran/walked 6 very slow, very sticky, slightly miserable miles today. But instead of focusing on all the bad (and I’m not going to lie, there was a lot), I’m going to focus on the good.

  • I got to run on the trail today. It’s pretty, shaded, and flat for the most part. Plus it’s a really great change from running in my neighborhood all the time.

  • I pet a dog!!! Petting dogs is always fun! He was an Old English Sheepdog and he was very happy to see me.
  • I saw all sorts of baby bunnies and a fox!! I’ve never seen a wild fox so close before, so that was really cool.

  • I set out to do 6 miles and that’s exactly what I did. It took me forever and I thought about quitting, like, 8 million times, but I finished.

I hope you’re having a great Saturday!

Just be glad you weren’t out running the Madison to Chicago Ragnar Relay this past weekend! I had the 12th and final leg for my team. I ran a total of more than 22 miles, including the final 9.7 of the race in 90-degree heat Saturday afternoon. Fortunately our van was stocked with a cooler and plenty of drinks.
