*Throws hydration pack onto a table* It’s officially that time of year again! It’s getting to the point where I can’t go very far without water, and my handheld water bottle just isn’t cutting it anymore.
Thank goodness for this guy!! It holds 2 liters of water and has two pockets so I can bring pretty much anything I could concivably need with me. Haha you can see my little tub of vasaline in the front pocket. Hey, you never know when you might need some extra lube on those hot summer runs!!
So, I absolute love this thing! My sister gave it to me a few years ago and ever since I’ve worn it on pretty much every single one of my super hot summer runs. It especially came in handy during half marathon training! I can’t imagine carrying a handheld bottle for that long, but more power to the people who can!
Anyway, this thing fits me perfectly. It doesn’t bounce or chafe and once you get used to it, carrying water on your back during runs really isn’t that bad. The only down side is that it makes by back sweat. A lot. But that’s a price I’m willing to pay for having 2 liters of water readily available on my runs.
I’m super glad I brought it with me today, I’m pretty sure I would have died without it.
Now I’m going to back track a bit and talk about a few things that went down yesterday.
So a few days ago my phone charger broke, and my husband was tired of sharing his with me, so we set of to Nebraska Furniture Mart (it’s a wholesale store. Along with furniture the sell appliances, electronics, video games, etc.) to replace it. Which we did. But some how I ended up with a fancy shmancy new GPS watch, because my husband is just awesome like that, I guess. 😉
I’m not gonna lie, I’ve kinda wanted a forerunner 235 since they came out. But I had my 225 and I’ve been quite happy with it. I mean, it’s pretty similar to the 235, it just doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles that come with the 235. Like the ability to customize the watch face, or constantly being able to see your heart rate, or the ability to get notifications from your phone. Haha I could go on, but anyway, I’m really enjoying it already. Plus it’s a much more exciting color than the 225, and obviously that’s super important. 😉
After our shopping adventures yesterday we were all STARVING but we didn’t want to cook, so we ordered a shit ton of pizza instead. Oh man that was a good decision. Haha it was probably also a bad decision, as I ate almost all of a medium sized pizza by my self. (I mentioned I was STARVING, right? Hahaha I really need to start eating better…)
It’s all good though, usually after a night of pizza for dinner my long runs the next day go well! And today was alright. It probably would have been better if it wasn’t getting hot/humid, but there’s not much I can do about that, unfortunately.
I thought about doing 6 miles today, and while that extra mile would have been hell, I would probably have been able to do it. But since I haven’t done a long run in two weeks I decided it was probably better to stick with 5.
I’ve mentioned that my husband is amazing, right? Good. Because today he dropped me off at the trail so I wouldn’t have to deal with traffic, and so most of my route would be shaded. Plus the nature trail is much more interesting than my neighborhood.
For the most part it was an uneventful 5 miles as far as running goes. Since it’s getting hot I’ve give up on PR’s and what not, at this point I’m just focusing on not dying. That’s pretty much my game plan during the summer. Not dying haha. And unfortunately it’s only going to get worse. I’m dreading July and August…
After my run I re-fuled with more pizza. Totally worth it. (Seriously though, I need to start eating better). After that we took the dogs to the dog park, then played softball for an hour and a half. So at this point I’m pretty worn out. We’re going to spend the rest of our evening relaxing and I could definitely use that at this point!
