Well shit.

Today was a not so fun combination of warmer weather, asthma, and injured ribs that did not go well at all.

It’s been pretty warm here lately, and that tends to make my asthma act up. Normal that’s not a big deal, as running actuall helps that whole situation a lot. But since my ribs are hurt I can’t take deep enough breaths to work through my asthma issues or to run efficiently, which is kind of a problem.

On Thursday I was able to run 20 minutes and very easily kept a 13 minute per mile pace. My ribs were also feeling pretty darn good. That wasn’t the case today, though.

I was planning on doing an easy 5k. Just to get a feel for how things are going to go next Saturday. But for some reason my ribs seem to be in worse shape today. I ended up only going a mile and it took me almost 15 minutes to do so. Then I had to walk a mile home feeling pretty defeated. ā˜¹ļø

Hopefully I just need some more rest. I still have a whole week until my race and I feel like a lot of healing can happen in that time. Obviously no PRs are going to be happening, but I really want to be able to finish the whole thing without having to walk. That’s pretty much my only goal at this point. The course is supposedly flat and that should help a lot, but I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

Today has been a rough day for running. Hopefully, the week will see you fully healed with asthma under control. After feeling a bit discouraged myself today, someone pointed out to me that finishing last is better than not finishing and not finishing is better than not starting. Sometimes it’s important to remember that we’re always moving faster than the people sitting on their couch (or sleeping in their bed).

That’s so so so true! And I probably need to remind myself of that more often. I mean, just being able to run is a pretty impressive thing when you think about it. I really needed this today, so thank you so much!! šŸ™‚

Maybe. They actually have been feeling better after I move around a bit. I mean, actual running is kinda painful, but I always feel a lot better afterwards. šŸ™‚
