We’ve had some crazy weather this week! On Wednesday it got up to almost 80 degrees and was relatively nice out for most of the day. Up until around 7 pm when we had a thunderstorm pop up out of nowhere, that is. On Thursday we woke up to a mix of snow and rain and temperatures in the 30’s. On Friday it was back in the 50’s and sunny. Saturday was raining, and we got snow on Sunday. But that’s the Midwest for ya! 😉
Unfortunately my workouts haven’t been all that crazy. They were kinda lack luster actually. But hey, it happens.
- Jillian Michaels Kettlebell workout
- 15 minutes (3.8 miles) on the stationary bike
- 2 mile run (30 minute run/walk intervals with the husband)
- 10 minutes of stretching
It was crazy windy on Monday! Plus I think we were both really tired, so our run didn’t exactly go well. But hey, we did it!
- Rest Day
I was SUPER tired on Tuesday. So instead of doing the stationary bike like I had planned, I walked the dogs, then proceeded to get nothing done for the rest of the day. Haha doing nothing was totally necessary.
- Windy/hilly 5k
- 5 minutes of stretching
Haha I say hilly like all of the runs I do in my neighborhood isn’t full of hills (it is). It was crazy windy though. Add that to running up hills and you’ve got yourself a pretty shitty situation. I ended up suprising myself with a shiny new PR though! (Well, it’s a PR on this watch, but I’ll take it!)
Also, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Whoever said Kansas is flat was a liar!! I’ve yet to find a flat place to run! I mean, the trail I run on isn’t so bad. There are some pretty big hills, but for the most part they’re pretty short and relatively spread out.
Then again, we do live pretty close to Missouri and Missouri is really hilly. That’s why there are so many cows in there. True story. We drove through the western part of Kansas a couple of times and that was super flat, so I guess that’s what they were talking about.
- Yoga for runners
Man did I need this! I was super tight in my hips so spending some time just breathing in each pose was much needed.
- About 40 minutes of tilling grass clipping/mulch into the dirt in our garden…by hand.
No fancy tiller for this girl! All I need is a hoe (last year I dug it all up with a spade haha). Well, we do have a tiller. I just didn’t want to get it out and use it. Besides, we weren’t planting anything on Friday so I didn’t have to actually till anything. I just had to start working the dirt.
But yeah, this was a lot of hard work! And I’m not gonna lie, it’s probably my favorite kind of hard work. I actually kinda love manual labor. Tilling a garden, shoveling out a chicken coop, loading cows onto a trailer, cleaning dog kennels, mowing the lawn (at my mom and dads we had to use a tractor and it was kinda awesome), pretty much anything like that is definitely preferable to doing any kind of work inside, in my opinion. And I guess kinda took it for granted when I still lived with my parents (haha who would have though that I would miss cleaning dog poo). Farmer Ashley needs a farm…But anyway, I’m getting way off topic here.
- 5 mile run
- 10 minutes stretching/foam rolling
Long run day! Yay! Why is it that running long is so much more appealing than speed work? I guess because there’s a lot less thinking involved in long runs and you can just let your mind wander? I really need to start doing speed work again…
- Rest day
Ah, sitting around and doing nothing productive is always fun. 😉
I feel like I rambled a lot in this post and for that I’m sorry. I was just kinda typing what I felt without a filter. Now I’m going to ramble on a bit more, but I’m almost done, I promise!
Didn’t get as much running done as I would have liked this week. My hip and shin are feeling a lot better so you’d think I’d be more enthusiastic about running, but I wasn’t really this week. Ah well. That’ll happen sometimes. Besides I can’t be all that upset. I mean, I got a new PR and my long run went really well! What more could a runner ask for?! 😉
Until next time!
